How did you come up with the new Steven powers?

Unless they aren’t new, but I thought WD’s power set was just “mind control pew pew” and “reverse mind control pew pew”.

Well, that would be one way to do it. But given that Pink, who we are more familiar with, ended up having a whole SLEW of powers, it makes more sense to me that the powers we see the Diamonds using aren't the only ones they have (the potential for).

And honestly - I just extrapolated.

White's power ("mind control pew pew") is literally pushing herself into the consciousness of other gems and pushing them down. That's technically two things. She can suppress others' will (the current Geas that Steven uses on Jasper, but snipped down to its basic form) and also see through their eyes (Steven did this with Earl in season 2).

The glowing was just... glowing.

The power to poof gems was simply another extrapolation of White's ability to control others. She's big, yes, but SOMETHING must be making her scary.

Anyway, I suppose the simple answer is that yes, I am just making it all up. That's the nature of fanfiction! :)

How is the Diamond's relationship in this? Are they sisters or more like the typical family structure?

You know, Pink is the daughter, Blue and Yellow the moms and White the grandma

Because if it's the latter then we can say that White Diamond stole her granddaughter's boyfriend and that would be goddamn hilarious

It's funny that this topic keeps coming up. I think back about... 4 years ago? We had a HUGE discussion about this, and now it's back again.

Here's the thing about me, personally:

I dislike trying to put gem-relationships into human-shaped dynamics.

I understand it might be useful for analysis! I understand it might be fun. I understand it's just a way to interpret the text.

But to me, the bottom line is that gems, including diamonds, AREN'T human. That's the fun of it. That's the frosting on top of the worldbuilding cake.

They don't HAVE mother-daughter relationships. Nor sister-relationships. They don't really even have the same romantic relationships as humans do, although I understand that Garnet steers very close. But it's still inherently different because their culture, their history, their very physiology and psychology-are all inhuman!

The Diamonds' family structure is just... that they're all Diamonds. That is their relationship to one another! And yes, that can be compared to either sisters OR mother-daughter-granddaughter, etc. But none of those are really 'truly' the one.

Anyway, sorry. I think that might be overthinking it. But I like to overthink. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, I had finaly read the WD au after like, an year procrastinating, and it is amazing, but, there is something I keep wondering, keep in mind that I had read it all on Tapas, so I might not know if it is the case, but why dont you try working with the au? I mean, I dont know if you gaing enought from donations to sustaing yourself just with that, but it whould surprise me if you didn't, because your art is amazing and the story is even better, so, there is a reason you still work? That is, if you do, as I said, I only read the au trought Tapas, so I whould'nt know if you said thatbon Tumblr. The reality is, even with the very generous support of those people who subscribe to my Patreon, I simply Do Not earn enough money to live off of my art.

Most of my fans are kids, which means they don't have means to pay, or have to save their money for better things - and even those who DO read my comic and are adults are rarely able to/inclined to donate money. The comic is available for free on Tapas, after all. I don't want to paywall it - Patreon is entirely for perks.

Of my total followers on tumblr (not counting instagram and twitter follower count because there's probably a lot of overlap)...

...only 1.25% subscribe to my Patreon.

And I'm LUCKY for that number. That number is enough to allow me to work part time at my IRL job and devote a couple of days a week entirely to art. Which is great!

But WDAU is not MY comic. It's a fancomic based off of original material. I cannot/do not want to put it behind a paywall and sell it as a product. I can monetize some sketches and give people benefits through Patreon, but that's not the same thing.

Idk if you've done this before but could you show people's predictions that already happened?

Unfortunately, that folder is a relatively recent thing so there are no predictions in there from before mid season 4.

As in, I think I made it a couple years ago, but most of the predictions people make are end-game stuff details. So I don't have anything in there that is old enough to be a prediction AND have come true at this point.

You should know I'm so insane about this comic that I'm going through the comic again to collect evidence for a theory so I can present my theory. I have no idea if it will be true but I am afraid it might be and if it ends up happening I'm going to spin around in pure delight at having noticed The Clues

I absolutely love it when people do that - give me theories and etc. Please, do it! I always have fun reading. Even if they're totally off base, or very close to correct, or 100% spot on - I won't react, but the knowledge that someone is thinking about the story as deeply as I am tickles me. :)

Alright I know the gag of people asking for spoilers has been run into the ground by this point but I think it’s still funny so here goes:

Hey can you describe the upcoming plot in very specific detail? Actually maybe you could draw it so it’s easier to follow the action. Although drawing and writing all of that at once might be a lot to handle, so you could release it in batches every once in a while instead of all at once. It would be like some sort of webcomic! Then we could read the updates and learn the plot as we get new pages! What a neat concept, am I right?

idk man, that seems like a great concept, but I'm afraid it's a bit far-fetched.

Do you really think anyone would read that? Like, pay attention to the dialogue and understand what the characters are saying? Figure out small bits of foreshadowing in order to theorize effectively about what could happen next? Consider larger themes and put them together with how the characters act to understand the author's intended meaning beyond just the surface-level, at-face-value reading and shallow interpretation of only what is immediately apparent on the page?

It feels like it could be something... but I just don't know.

Given that Yellow Diamond was putting shattered cluster experiments back together during Future, it's always possible that Boomy and C43 could get put back together, right?

It might seem like it, but no. Those two specific gems were not visible anywhere in that page. :)

It feels like something with Amethyst was supposed to happen in the cannon show, since she was overcooked and when she fused, most of the time it seemed like she gave a huge boost in power. The Garnet fusion made them huge and strong and her fusion with Steven seemed to tap into power his body hadn't developed enough for. It's like there was supposed to be some buried power reveal from her. There's also the thing with how she can shape shift all the time with no issue even though it's supposed to be draining and have negative effects. Was that ever addressed?

Hmm. While the idea is fascinating, and I understand how it might be tempting (weak(er*) character has been SECRETLY SUPER POWERFUL ALL ALONG woo, underdog!) I don't necessarily think there's much to back up such a theory.

First of all, Amethyst IS a bit weaker than Jasper, and this was proven multiple times. She's not necessarily weaker than the average quartz, though. She just uses her power differently.

And her shapeshifting absolutely does have a normal limit! We see this proven when she shapeshifts into Jasper to fool the Rubies, and ends up struggling to hold it for longer than an hour.

Shapeshifting doesn't have tons of negative side effects. It's just tiring to hold the shape for too long. It's also considered 'inefficient' but as far as the show tells us, there's nothing strange, physically, about how Amethyst does it.

When Sea Glass said that about Jasper hating everything from where she is... I never thought about it that way. That's a really smart way of writing.

Also, I love how your work talks about tackling evil with greater evil is not a good option. The original show felt sweet and child-like when covering the subject of forgiving, and though some people thought it was sugar-coated and childish, it's the better way to give hope to the younger audience the show aimed to, but the way you get deep into it for an older audience feels so on-point and important in today's world, with extremism coming from every sides. Your work kinda helps me have hope in humanity.

Honestly, most of my depiction of grey morality comes directly from the show itself. I don't even think it was that childish - it was just a kid's show, but the way the show presented good people making mistakes and hurting others was and still is really important to me in my own storywriting!

I honestly can't take credit for the whole 'Jasper hates herself' theory. It's been around for a while. She's very much a mirror image of Rose, who hates herself more openly, but expresses it in a different way to Jasper, who externalizes the hatred and discontent she feels. It's part of the reason she's so much fun to write. :)

If Steven goes to Empire City, which is supposed to be New York, would he see their world's version of the Statue of Liberty, which turns out to be one of the Gems' fusions?

That would be hilarious. I can see it being either Opal or Alexandrite

That would be pretty funny, not gonna lie. I'm not sure if I'd have a chance to use that gag, but it's a good one!

Hello Chekhov, I have a question or rather a theory, it's probably obvious, but I'll ask you anyway, on your art for 2024, I held a Earl as a gift, and it reminded me of a Bismuth gem, is this a hint that Earls may find Bismuth in the lion's rot? (Sorry if there are mistakes, I use a translator)

Would you ever consider publishing physical comics of the series? I'm not sure about the intricacies of how that's done but I would absolutely love having it as a book, it would be so cool

Also, do you think Steven would have any interest in yarn/crafting hobbies? I think it could fit well with his interest in fashion and would help a bit with all his stress

Unfortunately, since this is technically copywrited content, I have no plans to publish anything and would not be able to if I could.

Even if I did make physical copies, due to the fact that I live in Japan, shopping costs would be through the roof. Y'all would hate me.

As for yarn/crafting... 😂 I suppose I can see WD!Steven getting into it! Maybe he would, in the future. Especially if he could make clothes.

I don't know how much I would be able to write it, though, because the only time I've tried knitting (I think it was technically crocheting?) I became stressed to the point of angry yelling within 5 minutes and vowed to never touch another needle again. Something about the physical texture of doing those yarn crafts sends me spiraling into a mild overstimulation rage immediately. I don't know how people find them relaxing.
