Speak | Chapter 11
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.6K Warnings: emotional abuse, foul language, bodily harm
Summary: Bella Swan was a disaster when Edward had left. Deciding she needed a little help, Charlie Swan receives with open arms his younger daughter (Y/N) Swan. She helps Bella during her depression and becomes inseparable from her long-lost friend Jacob. What she didn’t expect was falling for a hotheaded short-tempered silver wolf.
A/N: wanted to make this chapter longer, but I'm leaving the comfort/fluff for the next chapter. Now, onto the only story y'all care about 😉😉(jk jk)

It had been a whole week of romantic bliss. At least in (Y/N)’s opinion. Something had finally clicked inside Jacob. Somehow, he’d finally understood what it meant to be a boyfriend. A surprising turn of events in his behavior from the past two weeks.
Jake had been the kind and caring boy she had fallen for many years before. He’d taken her out on a couple of spontaneous dates, he’d filled her with loving words, and not once did he make her question if they were meant to be together.
One. Whole. Week.
And she hoped it would last. (Y/N) hoped it would remain that way for as long as it could. Even with all the secrets between them. Sure, she had to wait until the late hours of the day to talk to Paul. Spending hours on the phone as she had done with Jake in the beginning, learning the smallest intricacies of his personality. Everything that made him him.
(Y/N) couldn’t stop the giddiness that filled her veins every time the phone rang. There was a pull to the boy that she did not understand. Something mystical that tugged at her heartstrings and sang the song of Paul Lahote. But she was too scared to answer that call, to listen to the chords that made up his name. How could her heart call to someone she hardly knew? How could she want someone else when she had spent so many years beating for another?
There was a complexity to her feelings that she could not decipher. Her head told her it was delusion. That she had only begun to gravitate toward Paul when Jake and she had hit their first obstacle. And although that obstacle had yet to be removed –Bella was always a lingering presence in everyone’s life—(Y/N) was seeing a way through it. Paul had been kind and comforting in a time when –even if she could not admit it—she was scared of Jake, petrified by his anger. The girl simply couldn’t bring herself to believe it could be anything more than that. She simply wouldn’t.
Jacob Black was it for her, she could almost bet her life on it.
Well, only for the time things were good. ‘
But (Y/N) seemed to forget from her time in Forks that things never remained the same for too long. Laughter died, the sun stopped shining, and Jacob’s painted-on mask could shatter in a split second.
School had started in the rez as well as in Forks. Teenagers spilled into the halls of the high school, mutterings about their winter vacations muddling into each other. It made (Y/N)’s heart beat faster to be around other students once more. Two years had passed since she had been inside a physical school and she had grown accustomed to her mother and a slow computer to be her teachers. She felt odd and out of place and wondered how Bella had felt walking through these very walls only a year prior to her. And she could have asked her. Her older sister was walking right beside her and she could have asked her if the staring ever died down, or if feeling nervous was normal.
Alas, Bella would not have answered, and (Y/N) was resigned to keeping those questions buried deep within her. Her sister was out of her room and in the school, and that was all she could ask for. The zombie-like girl guided her to the office, where she was met with a red-haired woman with a bright smile.
“Well, it seems the Swan duo is finally complete,” she said. Her glasses slid off her nose slightly as she looked at (Y/N) through the top of the spectacles. “I’ve got your schedule right here. And though I’m sure Bella will show you around, I’ve added a map of the school as well with the best routes to get to your classes.”
“Uh, thanks,” (Y/N) forced a smile as she felt her cheeks warm in embarrassment. She expected to be known in the school, but she never thought that it would feel so invasive. “This is very helpful.”
“Of course, (Y/N),” she smiled. “Can’t believe just last year I was giving your sister a similar folder.”
“Yeah, time sure does fly.”
During the whole encounter, Bella remained stoic and quiet. Her ever-present sorrow hung over both of them like the darkest clouds that frequently adorned the Washington sky. The older Swan was there, but it would have been the same as though she was not there. The plant in the corner of the office held more life than her sister currently did.
And that was how the rest of the day went. (Y/N)’s hours passed and it felt like she was the only Swan in that school. Long gone was the novelty of Isabella, instead replaced by the freshness of her little sister. Everywhere she walked, eyes followed her. There was nowhere she could go that others wouldn’t question her regarding her life in Arizona and Florida before transitioning the conversation into Bella’s heartbreak condition. Even during lunchtime, when her older sister was sitting right next to her, her friends asked (Y/N) how she was doing.
(Y/N) wasn’t sure what she should have expected when she had gotten to school. But she definitely did not enjoy having to be her sister’s spokesperson. A small part of her wanted her to be the real center of attention, not just the vessel of information regarding Bella. If someone had asked her she would have said that the only reason she had been accepted at the high school was to make sure her sister didn’t fall apart during one of her classes.
Though she did meet new people as the week went by, it felt just like it had when they had been growing up. (Y/N) was not her separate entity; she was just Bella’s little sister. And she feared that’s all she would ever be. It made her feel shallow and a bit vain to want everyone’s attention, to hope that others gravitated toward her because of who she was rather than who she was related to.
Back home, it was no different. As the Swan sisters walked into the house, Charlie was quick to ask how the day went. But his eyes were trained on his oldest daughter. Especially as the girl disappeared into her room, closing her door behind her.
“Did anything happen at school, (Y/N)?” Charlie worried. “How did she do today?”
“Well, nothing’s really different,” she sighed. “I only saw her during lunch and she was just quiet. She picked around her food, only eating a couple of bites before the bell rang. Other than that, I don’t know much.”
“I shouldn’t be surprised,” her father responded as he slumped on the armchair. “She’s been that way since September. I’m just glad you’re there now to look out for her. I don’t know what we’re gonna do, (Y/N).”
“I don’t know, dad. Whatever Bella is going through is bigger than just heartbreak. And I think only she can dig herself out of this hole. We just gotta be here whenever she decides to,” (Y/N) shrugged before she followed the same path Bella had taken only a minute before. “Oh, and school was great for me. Thanks for asking. Again”
The door slammed lower than she intended behind her, but she didn’t care. Her entire day had already revolved around Bella. Like she was the gravitational pull in Forks. Forget the sun. No, this small town revolved around the one and only Isabella Swan. There was nowhere she could go where the shadow of her sister didn’t tower over her.
She changed clothes before burying herself under her covers, searching her phone for the only person that did not seem to care who her sister was. The only person that had not made her think that they were using her to get to Bella. She knew his voice would be able to calm her anger and assuage her disappointment.
But before her finger could hit the call button a knock resounded through her room, followed by her father’s figure entering her room. “Hey, kiddo,” he said. “I just wanted to apologize for that. I know it may seem like I’m only focused on Bells, but I know I don’t have to worry about you. Your sister on the other hand…”
“I know, dad. She’s been chosen by the gods of sorrows and they don’t want to let her go.”
“Don’t be melodramatic, (Y/N),” he chuckled. “But I wanna make sure you know that I care about you just as much as I care about your sister, and I’m here for whatever you need, whenever you need.”
“I know,” she smiled, swallowing down the tears that were threatening to spill. Her father may not have noticed, but he did not pay them the same attention. Not even their mother had. And it pained (Y/N) to admit that she had grown too used to it. “It’s okay, dad. I know you’re worried about her and so am I.”
“I’m sure, kiddo,” he smiled, sighing in relief. “Well, I wanted to let you know that I’m off tonight on shift.”
“Okay. See you in the morning then.”
“Yeah, and Jake’s downstairs waiting for you.” (Y/N) perked up at his name. It didn’t surprise her anymore when he dropped by unannounced. He had been doing it the remnant of his winter break and he had promised it wouldn’t change after school started. “Now, I trust you guys, but no boys in the room, (Y/N). Keep it to the living room and the kitchen, alright?”
“Of course, dad,” she chuckled, following him out of her room and down the stairs. “Stay safe out there.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he scoffed jokingly. “I take you’ll behave yourself, Jacob. That’s my daughter we’re talking about here.”
“I will, Charlie,” Jake smiled. “I promise there won’t be any funny business going on.”
“You better,” Charlie scowled. “See you in the morning, (Y/N). Bye, Jacob.”
“Bye, Charlie,” he chuckled.
She leaned into the side hug her father gave her, smiling as he kissed the top of her head. “Bye, dad.”
The front door closed behind him and (Y/N) remained by the front window until the cruiser disappeared from the driveway and down the road. Once the car was nowhere in sight, she turned to her boyfriend, a mischievous grin tugging at her lips. She closed the distance between her and Jake, looking to wrap him in a hug.
But Jacob stopped her, pushing her arms back onto her sides, his warm smile replaced with a stoic scowl. “I’m not staying long, (Y/N),” he muttered. “There’s just something we need to talk about.”
“What’s wrong, Jake?” she worried. “Did I do something wrong?”
“I know you haven’t been honest with me, (Y/N).”
“W-what? What are you talking about?”
“I know that you’re still talking to Paul,” he answered. His face was unreadable but his words were seeped in disappointment. “And don’t deny it. Embry let it slip out accidentally. It seems your best friend decided to recruit mine into whatever gang he’s in with Sam Uley.”
“Come on, Jake. How would Jared know any of that?” (Y/N) stammered, an awkward smile playing on her face. “There’s nothing there to let slip.”
“Right, so, Embry just so happened to start avoiding me and Quil in school. He cut his hair, he got that dumb tattoo they all have, and he’s always with them when he’s not in school. And, it’s funny, today when we confronted him about it, he simply said that they were helping him with something he couldn’t talk about,” Jake seethed. “But the cherry on top was when, for some reason, he told me that it would be best if I just let you and Paul be friends. Which came as a surprise to me since there isn’t supposed to be a friendship there. Not for the past two weeks, (Y/N).”
Her heart beat loudly in her chest, her breath hitching in her throat as Jake revealed that he was sure that she had broken her promise to him. She had never planned to keep that promise, but at that moment she was regretting it. “Tell me what to do to fix this, Jake,” she pleaded. “I’ll do anything. I’ll even delete his contact from my phone right now.”
“No,” he stated simply. “If you want to help, tell your buddy Paul to let whatever he and his little group have on Embry go. Maybe then I’ll consider forgiving you for lying to me for two weeks. For now, I think it’d be best if we took a little break.”
He turned her back to her, making his way to the door. He made it to the driver’s side of his car before (Y/N) caught up to him, trying her best to not slip on the ice-covered pavement.
“Jake, please,” she cried, holding onto his forearm, trying her best to turn him to face her. “I promise there is nothing going on between us. All we did was talk. I’ll never call him again, Jake. Just please, don’t leave like this.”
“I don’t care anymore if you talk to him, (Y/N). You can talk with all of Forks for all I care,” he spat. “I just want my best friend back and safe from those assholes. Get Embry back and then we can talk. It’s as simple as that.”
“I have no control over that, Jake. You know that,” she sobbed. Her hands kept tugging at his arm, trying with all of her might to turn him around. To be able to look into the brown of his eyes and show him that she was telling the truth. But he would not budge. His body remained frozen in place. His gaze fixed on the car door. “Please. I’ll do anything else. Anything you want!”
At that last tug, Jacob finally moved, pulling his arm toward his body. The bruteness and the swiftness of his motion made (Y/N) slip and fall back, her hands flying behind her to catch her fall. Her palms burned as they made contact with the rough cement and her backside ached in searing pain.
Tears pooled at the corners of her eyes, falling down her cheeks and making her skin freeze in the weather. She knew it had been an accident –it had to be. But instead of running to her aid, Jake got into his car with a scoff. “Ask Paul to let Embry go,” he said as he backed out of the driveway. “If not, don’t even bother calling me your boyfriend anymore.”
And then he left. He simply left. She looked down at her hands, covered in scuff marks and trails of blood. Her body was shaking from the cold but her shock petrified her more. Jake had –unintentionally—hurt her and he had left.
(Y/N) didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t call her sister. Bella would probably just stare at her as she took care of herself. She couldn’t call her dad and let him know what Jake had done. Maybe he wouldn’t have even thought that it was such a bad thing. There was only one person that she knew she could call. The only person that despite everything that had happened could bring her comfort.
Her hands screamed at her as they dug into the pocket of her pants to dig out her phone. She stared as the grey sweats she wore darkened with drops of blood. Her wrists ached and her palms stung, and all she wanted was someone to hold her.
“Paul,” her voice croaked through her phone as soon as the ringing stopped. “Can you come over, please?”
“I’ll be there soon,” was all he said.

Wildest Dreams Masterlist
————————————
Tucking her legs under her, Y/N stares out the window. It’s been unusually cold lately, the skies turning darker with each passing day. The clouds are getting lower, spreading among the trees surrounding her home. Whenever autumn comes knocking, Y/N welcomes the rainy days and moody weather with both arms. She didn’t detest the cold as she once did, because Paul would always hold her a little bit closer. He’d often kiss her until they both struggled to keep their hands to each other and she had to beg for mercy before they were both late for work. It’s not like he’d kiss her any less in the summer, it’s just that he’s aware his warmth in already warm days is harder for Y/N’s body to handle. It’s why he’d give her space from time to time. Y/N hated that. That’s why she’d turn down the AC to freezing cold temperatures all the time just so she could enjoy Paul’s cuddles more.
She misses his cuddles now.
It’s been five days since Paul went out of the Cullen’s house and shifted into a wolf. When he’d lose his temper, Paul would be back by nightfall and Y/N never needed to worry. This felt different. Jacob didn’t tell her much at first, trying to sugarcoat what they’d discovered, but she wasn’t letting up. She could never let up when Paul was involved.
“You need to hear it from him, not me,” Jacob sighs.
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Y/N frowns deeply. “I don’t know what’s happening, but I know I feel that his heart is shattered and I -”, she pauses as a sob threatens to escape her. “I never feel his emotions unless they’re at an extreme and his pain is suffocating me right now.”
“It’s a deeply personal thing I can’t imagine Paul would want you to talk to us about.”
Chuckling dryly, she points a finger at Jacob’s chest. “You have no idea what he or I would want. You weren’t here when we were building this relationship from the ground up! You weren’t here as we grew up and you sure as hell weren’t here when we learned each other’s hearts by heart! So don’t tell me what he would or wouldn’t want, because I know what he wants, and that is me! And if he is in this state because he believes he’s done something that will take me away from him, I need to know what the fuck it is so I can convince him it isn’t his fault and that–,“ belting over she lets a shuddered breath pass her lips. Clutching her chest, Y/N’s knees hit the ground with a loud sob echoing throughout the room. Jacob’s quick to wrap his arms around her, looking at Edward in distress.
“She’s overwhelmed”, Edward explains before glancing at Jasper, who seems devastated by the constant waves of pure anguish coming off of Y/N.
In the blink of an eye, Jasper is beside Y/N, his hand running up and down her back as she gasps for breath. All the pain and confusion coursing through her blood is nearly enough to make anyone insane. Even Jasper is barely holding it together as he takes some of her pain, replacing the tsunami of negative emotions with a sense of tranquility.
It doesn’t take long for Y/N’s breathing to return to normal, but her tears don’t dry. Jasper can manipulate her emotions, but he can’t trick her body into forgetting everything.
“Just tell me,” she pleads. “I need to know how to bring him back home.”
“He’s found out you’d possess a rare ability if you were to join our family,” Carlisle answers, and her eyes find him immediately. “One that the Volturi would never allow to exist. That means they’d kill you if you were to change.”
Wiping her tears with the back of her hand, she furrows her eyebrows. “Then I won’t shift and it won’t be a problem.”
“Aro will know,” Alice chimes in. “He can read every thought anyone’s ever had just by touch. He’d find out about you. Even as a human, you’d be a threat. The potential you carry is enough for him to act.”
Letting out a heavy breath, Y/N shakes her head. “How do you even know I might have this power?”
“We asked a member of our extended family to visit,” Alice replies. “We didn’t want to take risks when it came to you. A Quileute imprint.”
“And if you didn’t? If he never told you what potential I carry? If we never even mentioned the possibility of me being part of your family?”
“You’d have never gone through what Paul saw the day he imprinted on you.”
“A self-actualizing prophesy,” Y/N nods. “Is it really as bad as it seems?” Y/N asks Alice. “Paul has always seemed traumatized by it, but he’s my imprint. Is it really a horrid way to die?”
For the first time, Y/N noticed emotions in the Cullens. The Cullens' stony faces are difficult to read by humans, but Y/N can no longer ignore the emotions she notices in them. It’s on all their faces–compassion and pity most of all.
“Okay then”, Y/N forces a small smile as she uses Jacob’s shoulders to help herself stand. Jasper doesn’t hesitate, holding her up as she stumbles during her attempt.
“We need to find my fiancé,” Y/N purses her lips. “Jacob,” she sighs. “Please find him and bring him back to me.”
“I will do my best,” he promises. “But it’s not easy when we get into this headspace. It once took me an entire summer to return to my human form.”
Nodding, she swallows thickly. “Tell him I need him. Tell him I love him and I don’t care about anything other than spending the rest of my life with him. I want to get married and I want us to live every single day to the fullest.”
“I’ll gather the rest of the pack still willing to shift,” Jacob pecks her forehead. “We can cover more ground and drag him back if necessary.”
As Jacob walks toward the door, he’s stopped as her fingers coil around his pinky finger–the only part of him she could reach as he all but ran to fulfill his promise.
“Don’t let him see me breaking down. He can’t ever know.”
Ever since, Y/N waited for her soulmate to return to her. Embry, Quill, and Seth joined Jacob in their search the very first night. Sam and his eldest son waited for Leah and her husband, Owen, to come from Port Angeles before joining the very next day.
Emily would visit with her youngest every morning. Y/N’d have her dad over for lunch, but it didn’t help distract her as much. The greatest thing Sam has ever done for her was give her and Paul his blessing to clue her father in. She didn’t tell him she was marked for certain death. It would kill him to know, but he knows enough to be aware her life is in danger. She told him Paul’s off with the pack trying to hunt down a rogue cold one, protecting the tribe. Kim and Jared would come over every other night for dinner. Y/N imagines it’s because they feel guilty about Jared’s lack of involvement in the search for Paul. He’s not shifted in so long, the human part of him is much stronger than the wolf. Y/N supposes they didn’t want to halt his aging now when they finally seem to look the same age. She can’t take it to heart. Perhaps she’d hate if Paul shifted after a decade too.
Claire and her wife visited on the second day. She’s never been too close to Claire as she and Andrea live far, about a five-hour drive in one direction. They mostly see each other for holidays, but Y/N appreciated her visiting very much. Catching up with them put her mind at ease for a few hours, long enough to maintain some semblance of sanity.
Renesmee showed up with Bella for a few hours on the third day, bringing loads of chocolates Edward knew Y/N liked. Apparently, he’s joined the search earlier that day with Emmett and Rosalie.
The only ones who never left her home were Daisy and Jasper. It would likely drive Embry crazy if he knew his imprint had been sitting beside a vampire this entire time, especially when that vampire was Jasper. He’s apparently less stable with his diet compared to others in his family, but Y/N likes it when he’s close by. If it weren’t for him micromanaging her emotions whenever they threatened to kill her, Y/N would have lost herself. Alice came and went, unable to handle the smell of wolves for too long. The smell of several wolves mixed together is much worse than Jacob's scent, she said.
“He’s going to come back”, Daisy hands her a cup of warm tea. It’s nothing compared to holding Paul’s hand, but if she closes her eyes for a few minutes, she can pretend he’s there, safe with her.
Daisy sits with her, feeling her loss. Embry’s never been away this long before. She can’t imagine how hard it must be for Y/N when she can’t even be sure Paul is alright when she can feel he’s in pain. At least Embry isn’t in danger and he isn’t heartbroken to the point of being stuck in his wolf form. He’ll definitely come back home. Paul might not. She doesn’t say that openly, but she carries that worry. Meeting Y/N was scary as hell, especially with how highly Embry used to talk about her. She knows they had a mutual crush on each other when they were younger, but it never seemed to work for them. Embry told her he didn’t want to mess up his friendship with Jacob, who was evidently in love with Y/N, but he also didn’t want to risk losing Y/N as a friend. It was easier to admire her from a distance.
It’s not like Daisy is insecure about her relationship with Embry now, but before she knew what imprinting was, it did cross her mind that Y/N might be competition. She only found out about imprints when Embry spilled the beans about Paul imprinting on Y/N when she first came back to town. He wasn’t aware she was close enough to hear him and the way he mocked Paul for it, but she heard it. It wasn’t hard making the connection about their own situation. Smiling, she remembers how stupid his face looked when she called him her imprint in bed that night. He nearly choked on his own saliva before she kissed him harder than ever before. She wishes he was with her to kiss him harder than that. Jared didn’t shift and leave Kim, so why did Embry? Shaking her head, she puts those thoughts away. Y/N is a close friend, possibly her closest friend, and she’s definitely Embry’s favorite person aside from herself. This is a small sacrifice for someone they both care about.
Jasper watches the two girls from the couch. He can sense the quickly shifting emotions in Daisy every day, but none of them are malicious. It’s evident she simply misses her husband. Y/N is a hurricane compared to Daisy. She’s impossible to predict and the devastation her emotions can cause is incredibly difficult to contain. He’s never truly delved much into imprint connections, perhaps because Jacob and Renesmee had a simple relationship. Renesmee didn’t pay him much attention until she ended things with her high school boyfriend. After graduation, that’s when she decided she wanted him…selfishly so. She never quite unlatched from him. Renesmee was more or less obsessed with him, jealous of Y/N’s friendship with him, but she was never in any pain regarding Jacob. As for the wolf side of the relationship, Jacob just wanted to protect her and make her happy. He didn’t necessarily love her the way Renesmee loved him, but he wouldn’t ever break her heart, even though his own wasn’t whole. Jasper always knew Jacob loved someone else and despite the imprinting tying him to his niece, Jacob never forgot the one he wanted truly. Seeing Jacob and Y/N in the same room revealed everything to him — he wanted what he could never have. And now he’s off, making sure Y/N can have some form of a happy ending as if she won’t die soon.
Never before did Jasper care much about humans, knowing they’re around only for a brief part of his immortal life. Very few did he care to befriend and, for some reason, Y/N felt like a person he wanted to be around. She didn’t make him thirsty, it’s her heart that speaks to him. So many people walk around hiding their true feelings, but she feels everything so clearly and she refuses to pretend otherwise. It’s rare to find someone like that. He has observed her mainly depressed in the time he's known her, but he wonders about the potential of being around her when she's truly happy.? He could get drunk on candid joyfulness Y/N is capable of feeling. Perhaps he’s going to be invited to the wedding when Paul returns. She’ll certainly be cheerful on that day and he has to know the other side of this despair. He can't believe that he cannot replace this pit of aching with ecstasy and serenity.
Alice finds him unreasonable for staying with Y/N inside the house she shares with Paul, but he can’t bring himself to leave yet. Not before she’s reunited with her fiancé. Leaving now is like playing with destiny. She deserves the relief he’s cautiously giving her, making sure she can feel her emotions without allowing them to cross the borders of what she can safely handle. Y/N needs him, even if others do not agree. Until Paul walks over the threshold of this house, Jasper will not leave. Y/N doesn’t demand it either. He can feel she’s grateful for his presence, for taking the edge off the very sharp knife her emotions tend to become.
So he stays, watching over the girls as the lighting tears apart the sky.
“What would happen if I were to join your family and Aro was,” Y/N pauses as she turns to look at Jasper, who seemed rather surprised she was talking about it. “Well, if he was eliminated, would it really be such a problem for me? For your family?”
Staring at Jasper, Y/N watches as his lips spread in a thin line and then into a genuine smile. She’s definitely gone mad. “You’d want to take on the Volturi?”
“I want to take on Aro,” she corrects. “If he was alone, he’d be easier to eliminate.”
“To kill, you mean,” Jasper states.
Shaking her head, she places the empty teacup down. “I understand the chances of it are minimal, but say I accept to be one of you and I get this magical power of making vampires human… Can’t I make him human?”
“Would he, like, just become a vampire again?” Daisy asks.
Jasper rubs his chin. The more time he spends around her, Y/N swears he does these little gestures for her benefit, something to take away from the ungodly beauty he possesses, to make him seem more human.
It's impossible to turn them into vampires after they have been cured. However, the rest of them would know. The entire army would be ready to dismember us to get to you.”
“Not if he disappears,” Y/N tries. “We could hold him hostage until he dies a human death.”
“That’s dark”, Daisy notes.
“It’s nothing compared to what he’s been doing for much longer than you’ve been alive,” Jasper argues. “He deserves far worse.”
“Could it work?” Y/N asks as Jasper’s phone lights up. “Alice?” The hope in her voice is so easily detectable that it makes Jasper almost frown when he sees it’s a message from Edward.
We found Paul.
“No. Edward says they found Paul.”
“Are they coming home?” Y/N jumps, running toward Jasper. “Call him, call him!”
Smiling as her hope brings alive the butterflies in his stomach, Jasper dials his brother immediately.
“Kind of hard to talk now”, Edward grunts as a loud growl sounds.
“I’m with Y/N. You’re on speaker.”
“Where is he”, Y/N grabs Jasper’s wrist, bringing her lips closer to the phone. “Is he okay?”
“Canada”, Edward sighs as the growling grows louder.
“Is that him?!” she exclaims. “Paul Lahote, you stop that right now!”
On command, the growls turn into whimpers and she can’t help the way her chin trembles with the pained sound leaving her fiancé.
“Come home,” she says softly. “I know you believe you put me in this situation, but that’s not true.” Sniffling, she pauses as if to wonder if saying it in front of everyone is unwise. It doesn’t take long for her to decide, choosing to prioritize Paul over her vulnerability. “If you and I never fell in love, I’d have been dead a long time ago. Paul, I came back home for a few months to tie up loose ends.”
Glancing at Daisy who stood by her, Y/N swallows thickly. “I was struggling with anxiety and depression. And I didn’t feel like I had anyone in this world other than my dad. I just…I was in therapy, but it didn’t really feel like it was working. The meds never really helped either. I was just so…so lonely.”
“Y/N”, Daisy rests a hand on her shoulder as a show of support.
“I was planning on taking my life and then you showed up in that forest with your stupid smile and gorgeous eyes and suddenly I had one more mystery to solve.” Smiling meekly, Y/N sighs. “Before long, I was falling in love with you and my friends returned to me and in that time, I started falling in love with life again. You saved my life, Paul Lahote, and I hate how cheesy that sounds, but you did. And whatever time I got now is still a lot longer than it would have been if we never met.”
Biting her lower lip, she closes her eyes. “You made me happier than I believed was possible. I love you and I want to marry you. I want to marry you and become your wife as we planned. Come back to me so we can enjoy this time we have left.”
“I will.”
She recognizes Paul’s voice immediately.
“I’ll be home soon. We’ll do whatever you want.” His voice is shaky, imbued with heavy emotions he’s attempting to keep under control.
Smiling, she nods. “A beach wedding would have been great, but the weather might not agree.”
“I’ll make sure it agrees,” Paul sniffles.
“Where we had our first date?”
“Sounds perfect!”
Neither spoke for a few moments. Each breath seems to hang in the air, heavy with unspoken thoughts. It’s the kind of silence that carries weight, a palpable tension that both parties are acutely aware of but hesitate to break. Y/N inhales sharply as Paul breaks the silence.
“I love you too.”
“I know”, she replies quietly.
“With all my heart.”
“I believe you.”
“I’ll see you soon,” Paul promises.
Nodding, she holds her breath as tears rush to her eyes. She can’t let Paul hear her crying. He’s carrying far too much guilt already and her tears shouldn’t be part of the load. Swallowing the growing lump at the back of her throat, she replies sweetly, her tone laced with all the love she wants to give him.
“I’ll hold you to that.”

A/N: No clue why Tumblr is being a bitch today, I don't even know if the tags are working because it doesn't let me do my usual thing, so if you're on the tag list, please let me know if you got a notification or not. On a side note, I've had the worst stomach bug since Friday, so forgive me for the grammar, I beg for leniency. As usual, anyone wanting to be tagged can comment on the post, just make sure your blog visibility settings are on and that your blog hasn’t been flagged (blurry pfp is usually your clue that you have been flagged) as those are most common reasons why tumblr won’t let you be tagged. Also keep in mind changing your @ might mean you lose your tag since Tumblr acts like your blog no longer exists due to the change.

POV: Twilight character answers your Y/N question while you're bleeding out on the cold floor (PAC)
you're bleeding out onto a cold, granite surface in an unidentified ballet studio, you were attacked by a group of wild boars. in your precious last moments, you have a question that you just need a simple yes or no answer to, and thankfully, the cast of twilight is there to answer them. Close your eyes and use the fear pumping through your veins to select your oracle, you have Alice, Bella and Carlisle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alice's Answer
cards: ten of swords reversed and the two of cups
considering i'm the psychic of the family, I feel as though I am the most qualified to answer your question. My visions show a recent struggle or challenge fading away. There's a sense of relief and a turning point in the relationship. While there might be some bumps in the road, especially in understanding each other, the overall energy is moving towards reconciliation and healing. It's a reminder that relationships take effort and understanding, and with patience, the connection or bond can be restored and even strengthened. My answer to question is YES.
Bella's Answer
cards: 8 of wands reversed, queen of cups
erm, ok.
It feels like the cards are advising caution. The reversed 8 of Wands suggests a delay or a need to slow down, and the Queen of Cups upright emphasizes the importance of balancing emotions.
In terms of a yes or no, I would say no. erm, no but there is possibility for this situation to change. I mean, alice's visions change all the time. so it's possible. the cards indicate that while the situation might be moving slower than desired, the key lies in maintaining emotional balance and patience. So, it's a no for now, but it's more about navigating through the complexities of your situation with a careful and emotionally attuned approach. be patient, and trust your intuition, get in touch with what your emotions are trying to communicate to you
Carlisle's answer
cards: the world, 7 of pentacles
I may be a doctor, an immortal, supernatural one to be exact- however I am not hear to cure you of your ailments. I'm here to otherwise help you figure out the answer to your questions.
the cards I pulled for you was the the world and the 7 of pentacles. to get specific, the World card signifies completion, achievement, and a sense of fulfillment. It often suggests that a cycle has reached its conclusion, and there's a sense of accomplishment. Now, the 7 of Pentacles indicates a period of assessment and patience. It's about looking at the results of your efforts and deciding the next steps based on that evaluation. perhaps based on the results of a recent cycle you have completed, a recent achievement.
The answer is yes, but there needs to be careful patience and consideration involved.

Paul didn’t know what his plan was. Storming into the Black house and wolfing out would not have been the most ideal situation, but he needed to do something. Jacob had done an unforgivable thing, and Paul would make sure he knew he had.
But anger was running through him too fast to be contained. As much control as he had mustered with (Y/N), Paul could feel it running out. And he knew the worse thing he could do was reveal the long-kept secret of the reservation to Jacob before his time. As much as he wanted the wolf inside him to rip the other boy to shreds, he knew better now than to let that kind of anger control him.
Still, he found himself putting his car in park on the long dirt road that led to the red cabin, his body shaking as he tried to keep the wolf at bay. He knocked on the front door harder than he had anticipated. The sound reverberated deep inside his ears, echoing the quick beat of his heart. If Jacob was the one to open the door, it was more than likely that his fist would collide with the boy’s jaw.
“Mr. Lahote,” Billy smiled, opening the door wide. “What a surprise to see you here. To what do I owe this pleasure?”
“Is Jacob around?”
“He is not,” the man responded. “He is most likely with his friend Quil still. But if there is anything I could help you with, please let me know.”
“I don’t think this is something you should know,” Paul struggled. “It’s… I don’t know. I don’t think you want to hear this.”
“Try me, Paul.”
The boy kept quiet for a second, mulling over whether telling Billy was the right thing to do. It was stupid and juvenile to speak of the problems between two people that –technically—had no business with him. It was not his place to air their quarrels out. “I think you need to talk to your son, Billy,” he sighed. “I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but he can’t keep doing what he’s doing.”
“What has he done, Paul?” Billy asked sternly, his fist gripping at the sides of his chair. “Something tells me this has to do with (Y/N) Swan. And I know my boy has not been the kind of person I raised him to be. So, please, do not sugarcoat things for my sake.”
“I really wish I could say that it is not my place to speak about this, but I can’t just stand by and let him hurt her.” Paul took a steadying breath, the coldness in the air stinging his lungs as it filled them. “Jacob went by to see her today, to get her to find a way to get Embry back into his group. But we both know why he has felt the need to take a break when it comes to their friendship. Now, I don’t know how he came to the conclusion that (Y/N) would be able to do anything, but he basically told her that if Embry didn’t come back, that he would break up with her. For good. And maybe it was an accident like she says, or maybe he knew exactly what he was doing. But he either pushed her, or he let her go, and she got hurt, Billy. The skin on the palms of her hands is completely broken, and she has a massive bruise that covers her entire hip. So, I am hoping that it was an accident and he didn’t see her. Because if I find out that he drove away after she got hurt and left her there, I might just take matters into my own hands.”
Something like a mix of anger and disappointment flashed across Billy’s face. A gaze that chilled even Paul. “I can’t believe this,” Billy scoffed. “That boy has truly lost his mind. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Paul. Believe me when I tell you that the wrath of the gods will rain down on him. But I do want to ask you one thing, and I hope you answer truthfully.”
“Uh, sure. Anything.”
“Did you imprint on the girl?”
Paul felt his throat tighten at the mention of the bond. He had managed to get the pack to stop pestering him over telling her, and in two weeks, they had yet to mention the supernatural link that tied him to (Y/N). But, for some reason, he didn’t think that he was that easy to read.
He could have lied to the man. Tell him that (Y/N) was nothing more than a friend. That he didn’t want anything more than to make sure she was safe.  “I did,” he confessed. “But I haven’t told her about it.”
“I gathered as much,” he chuckled. “Would you care to indulge this old man for a quick chat?”
“I should be heading back,” Paul said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Patrol and everything.”
“Sam will excuse you for being late just this once,” the man smiled. “Please?”
“Uh, sure. I guess I can spare a few minutes. I'm already late as it is.”
He followed Billy inside, his steps tentative behind him. The elder pointed at his couch, inviting the boy to sit and listen. Something he was not good at. Listening to things he didn’t want to hear.
“First thing’s first, why haven’t you told (Y/N) about the bond? I figure it would make it a lot easier on everyone if she did.”
“I just…” Paul stammered, running his hands up and down his thighs to calm himself down. I don’t want her to be in the middle of this screwed-up world. I couldn’t live with myself if she ever got hurt because of our secrets. Much less because of me.”
“Doesn’t it hurt her more to keep her shielded from things that involve her?” Billy retorted. “(Y/N) is a special girl, and she has been stuck in the shadow of her sister for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately an afterthought to the Swans. I thought that my son would be the one to help her see her worth. That he would care for her in a way I don’t think she believes she deserves.” He took a second to sigh deeply, calming the anger that was bubbling inside him. “I will admit that I had hope that those two would work out because –between you and me—I’ve always had a soft spot for the girl. Having her be a part of my family in a more permanent way would have been great. But I can see that I was wrong about that. Now I understand that the affinity I thought she held for this land was because of you.”
“Getting closer to her will only hurt her in the end,” Paul said, his gaze dropping to the hands on his lap. “She needs someone that can be good for her. Good to her. I don’t think I am that person.”
“And yet the universe believes you are,” he offered. “I can’t say I felt the effects of the imprint bond. I didn’t even shift. But I’ve known love. And when things are meant to be, the universe finds a way to make it rightfully so. (Y/N) deserves to know there is someone out there that is on her side. Someone that will care for her unconditionally. Someone that only wants the best for her, even if it hurts them. She has a right to know about the things happening around her. Because at the end of the day, she is already in this world. Her sister ran with the Cullens and is friends with my son, who –given his behavior—might be getting closer to his shift; she is your imprint; she is still my Jacob’s girlfriend. This world is already happening to her. She just doesn’t know it yet.”
“What if that just pushes her away?” Paul worried. “It has been hard enough to build a friendship with her. I can’t lose that. I won’t lose her.”
“And what if it doesn’t? What if it brings her closer? She deserves the truth, Paul. And you know it can only come from you. I wouldn’t like to see what would happen if she was made aware by anyone else.”
“I… I’ll think about it,” he said, trying to convince himself that he would. Because everything Billy had said was true. She deserved everything and more, and maybe he could be the one to give it to her. At least a fraction. “But I do have to go now. Sam will probably have my head if I am another minute late.”
“I’ll give that boy a call,” Billy chuckled. “But I do hope you decide to tell (Y/N) the truth. It might open roads neither of you thought to walk down.”
Paul felt his head buzz with the words Billy spoke. As they joined the endless talks given to him by Jared and Sam, he knew avoiding the topic could only hurt them both in the long run. But the demons that breathed down his neck were too close for his liking. They held him in their grasp, their claws sinking into his skin every day that passed. He wasn’t sure if he could keep them at bay or even fight them out before they could make their way to (Y/N).
When he got to the Young cabin, he felt exhausted. Definitely not in the best shape to run around the woods in search of nothing. All he wanted to do was lay down and be done for the day. Or better yet, to run back to Forks and hold (Y/N) once again. For the first time since he had shifted, he wanted to avoid his responsibilities and put someone else first.
“Paul,” Sam’s voice broke through the silence of the night, surprisingly startling him. “I just received a call from Billy Black. Seems like you two had a talk.”
The alpha joined Paul on the bench he sat on, not a single drop of anger in his demeanor. “I’m sorry for being so late tonight,” he sighed. “I’ll go on watch now.”
“No need for that. Embry took your shift,” he said. “You should thank him for his beginner’s can-do attitude.”
“I will,” he sighed. “Thanks.”
“So, what happened?”
“(Y/N) got hurt, and she called me,” he shrugged. “We actually… well, we were together when you called. And then my anger took me to the Black residence.”
“I already knew all of that, Paul,” Sam reminded him. “I’m asking about all the things that happened that I don’t know about.”
“I don’t…”
“So, you’re all talked out for tonight? Or do you think you’ve heard enough?”
Paul’s gaze fell onto the night sky, staring at the twinkling stars above. “I don’t think there is anything else to say about the matter,” he sighed. “It’s just me and my messed-up head to work through.”
“Well, I know a thing or two about messed-up heads,” Sam chuckled softly. “And there’s always something more to talk about, Pauly-boy. But only if you’re ready to confront those things that you fear so much.”
“I… I don’t think I am, Sam. Not right now.”
“Well then, can I ask the same question I have been for almost two months?”
“I haven’t decided yet on telling (Y/N) the truth. I just need a bit more time to think. To make the best decision for her. At the end of the day, all I want is the best for her. Even if it doesn't include me, Sam.”
Jacob walked into the house late that night, as carefree and nonchalant as ever. He was ready to shower off the day and lay down to rest, hoping that when he woke up the next morning, everything that had gone wrong would resolve itself. But he wasn’t expecting to find his enraged father waiting for him in the living room.
“Dad?”
“Sit down, Jacob,” he said sternly, his tone sharp and pointed. “Now.”
“What’s going on, dad? Why are you so mad?”
“I think you can guess, son. But I won’t make it too hard on you. This is in regard to (Y/N). The girl you claim is your girlfriend.”
“What about her, dad?”
“Acting dumb is not a good look on you, Jacob,” Billy said through gritted teeth, his cheeks growing red in anger. “But since that is how you want to play this. I’ll let you know that it had come to my attention that you have physically hurt her.”
“Look, I don't know what you think you know, but I didn’t do anything to her, dad. All I did was talk.”
“Let’s say it was an accident, then. That she did slip on the ice, and you didn’t notice that she was hurt –which is a very unlikely scenario, boy. But you dangled your relationship in front of her like it meant nothing. You wavered it like a bargaining chip over something she had no control over. I don’t know who this is sat before me, but I can say this is not the son I raised.”
“And you’re gonna believe her over me, dad? I didn’t do anything like that,” Jacob whined. “All I did was go over to my girlfriend’s house to rant about my best friend avoiding me. Anything else is a complete fabrication. I…”
“Enough!” Billy exclaimed. The man rubbed at his temples, his anger settling into his head, creating a pounding headache. “(Y/N) didn’t tell me anything. But I know a lie when I hear it, son. And I know that you have been dragging that poor girl along in hopes that something might happen with Bella. I turned a blind eye because I hoped you would fall for her in the same way she had fallen for you. But you have done nothing but break her down. That girl loves you, boy. And you don’t deserve that.”
“How can you say that? I’m your son.”
“My son would have never treated her that way. My son would have stayed to make sure she was okay when she fell. My son would not have used that poor girl’s feelings against her,” he reprimanded. “I told you to let her go if this was what you were planning. You have hurt (Y/N) enough, and I will need you to man up and tell the truth.”
Jake was at a loss for words. He was sure he had never seen his father with so much anger running through his eyes. But he couldn’t admit the mess he had made of everything. How things had gotten out of hand and had blown up in a way that he never expected them to. He couldn’t admit that everything he had done was wrong.
“I didn’t hurt anyone, dad,” he said instead of the truth. “Why don’t you believe me?”
“I think it’s best if you head to bed now, son. I’ve heard all that I needed to hear.”
“Dad?”
“I need some time to cool down, Jacob. So, whenever you feel the urge, to tell the truth, you know where to find me,” his father said. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
Back in the Swan residence, (Y/N) was finding it hard to fall asleep. Her hip felt like it was on fire, and her hands pulsed in pain. But it was the warmth that had been rushing inside her since Paul had been there that kept her up. She decided to tire herself with the TV, but it was the images in her head that she had been paying attention to. Her fingers were on her lips, trying to imagine just what would have happened if that call hadn’t come in.
She was back in the bathroom. Paul’s hands were still warm on her skin, her heart hammering on her chest. He’s right there. Only centimeters away from her. She can almost feel his lips on hers. She could already feel the warmness of his breath. Only this time, she does kiss him, and it makes sense. Kissing him feels right.
“(Y/N)?” Her father’s voice startles her out of her dreaming. A live representation of how much time had already passed. “What’re you doing still up?”
“I couldn’t seem to find sleep,” she shrugged. “Figured the TV would fry my eyes into slumber as it seems to do for you but no such luck.”
“Very funny, kid,” he chuckled. Until his laughter died when he saw his daughter’s bandaged hands. “(Y/N), what happened?”
“I lost my balance on the driveway after Jake left and crashed onto the pavement,” she said. “I tried to catch myself with my hands, but I forgot I have Swan blood running through my veins, and clumsiness is in our genes. I scratched them up good, so I covered them up.”
“Why didn’t you call me, kid? Are you hurt anywhere else? Do we need to go to the hospital?”
“God, dad, no,” she chuckled awkwardly. “I’m okay now. It’s all taken care of.”
“Are you sure? You know the hospital is open twenty-four hours.”
“I am sure, dad. I’m okay. Just a little banged up.”
Charlie slumped onto the armchair in defeat, exhaustion taking over his body. “Sometimes I feel like I am failing you girls,” he sighed. “I’m so over my head with this whole parenting thing, and you two are the ones paying the price.”
“No, dad…”
“You don’t have to guard my feelings, (Y/N). I know I’m not father of the year. I’m sure there are so many things I’ve missed since the time you’ve been here, just like there were so many things that I missed with Bella. And I can’t help but wonder if it would have been better if you had gone back home with your mom like it was originally planned.”
“As much as I love and miss mom, I don’t regret for a second coming here, dad. In the short time I’ve been here, Forks became home. It’s not perfect, much like no place could ever be, but it is home. And I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
(Y/N) didn’t understand her feelings. She didn’t understand wanting Paul to kiss her. The complexity of liking to people at once hadn’t even crossed her mind because she didn’t think it was possible. Not in its entirety. And for the first time, she felt an ounce of relief at the prospect of Jacob leaving her. Maybe then she wouldn’t have to confront these confusing feelings and she could follow what felt right.
But it was only an ounce.

Celine was invited to the Cullen’s house one afternoon by Bella, eager to catch up and discuss the existence of vampires and other supernatural beings that Celine might now encounter, given her newfound knowledge about vampires.
“Celine, hi!” Esme greeted, being the one to open the house before she even got to knock
“Hi Esme.” Celine greeted back, smiling at her.
Celine noticed the subtle darkening of her eyes when she opened the door for her but didn’t say anything about it otherwise, only thinking that it was a vampire thing. Unbeknownst to her, Esme's keen gaze followed her every move as she entered the house and made her way to the living room where Bella awaited.
“Esme, let’s go feed first.” Edward offered, getting Esme’s trance to stop and redirect to Edward. She only nodded in reply, following Edward out the house without a word
“How are you?” Bella asked, a warm smile on her unnaturally pale face
“I’m good, glad to be off today.” Celine replied resting on the couch
“There’s another non-bloodsucker.” Jacob said, walking in and pointing finger guns at her “Hey Celine.”
“Oh my god.” Celine said with a grin, playfully rolling her eyes at him
“You were moments away from being a meal, if you didn’t notice.” Jacob said, pointing to the open door where Esme and Edward went out
“You didn’t need to tell her that, I hope you know that.” Bella scolded, shaking her head no at him
“How does your diet even work?” Celine asked curiously
“Well, no need to worry about us making you our meal since firstly, we’re vegetarian vampires, meaning that we only feed on animals instead of the typical human that the other vampires do. Secondly, we’re in control with our thirst for actual human blood now, Carlisle having the most control over it.” Bella explained thoroughly
“You’re in safe hands with him.” She added, giving Celine some sort of comfort
“Oh, come on.” Jacob told her, rolling his eyes at Bella “Let’s be real, Esme almost slipped up earlier. If it weren’t for Edward pulling her out.”
“She’s been the most away from humans, preferring to stay at home and do her architectural and art works here instead of outside with humans.” Bella explained to Celine
“How tough was it anyways? Being a human with them?” Celine asked Bella.
Bella contemplated her response carefully, determined to portray that being human around the Cullens was completely safe. If there was anyone that was gonna fuck up Carlisle’s chance of an eternity with his mate, it was definitely not gonna be Bella.
Somehow, Bella couldn't bring herself to lie to her. She felt a moral obligation to answer Celine's question truthfully, providing her with both the advantages and disadvantages of being human around the Cullens. She wanted Celine to still decide for herself, even though her fate of being a vampire is sealed.
“Being with them as a human was an…odd experience.” Bella started softly, remembering how it was when she was in Celine’s situation
“There have been moments where Edward needed to be very careful with his thirst around me, there have been slip-ups from Jasper as well. Being with us, despite us being vegetarian vampires, doesn’t ensure you complete safety.” She continued, watching Celine’s reaction carefully
“Just like how Esme was earlier?” Celine asked lowly, figuring two and two together. Bella only nodded in reply, getting Celine to push her lips, forming a thin line
“But when they protect, they protect hard.” Bella continued, sharing multiple stories on how the Cullens have protected her and Chief Swan during her time as human
If Celine was frankly speaking, she found herself conflicted after hearing Bella's stories. While she appreciated Bella's honesty, the tales of gore and life-or-death situations only served to deepen her reservations about becoming a vampire. Each anecdote seemed too coincidental, as if fate itself were guiding Bella toward the path of vampirism.
And she wasn’t having any of those, so what makes it sure that she has the same fate as Bella did?
“Bella, I think it’ll be best if I talk to her.” Rosalie called from the doorway, a soft smile on her face “Your stories are obviously scaring her.”
“She has good control, no need to worry about her.” Bella comforted before standing up “She’s killed people though so I’ll look out for that.”
“Oh please.” Rosalie said, playfully rolling her eyes at Bella before sitting next to Celine “I do not intend on killing Celine.”
“Thanks for the assurance.” Celine said awkwardly, biting her lip in an attempt to hide the laughter
“So, not a fan of Bella’s very gruesome stories?” Rosalie asked her
“Kind of. It was just too much for her to happen in like a year or so.” Celine answered honestly
“Fair enough. I guess time just becomes kind of invisible to us when you’ve been alive for so long.” Rosalie shrugged
“Kind of scary, don’t you think?” Celine asked her “Time has become so invisible to you that something you share could already be years, or in some cases, decades ago.”
“I understand if you don’t want to join us, there’s no pressure in your decision of becoming one.” Rosalie said softly, a smile on her face
“Did you not want to be one?” Celine asked her in a gentle tone
“I used to.” She replied lowly, her eyes admiring Celine’s humanity
“I opened this to Carlisle one time, told him that sometimes I wished that he didn’t change me that night. That he should have left me dead.” She continued, averting her eyes into the nothingness of the doorway, possibly remembering the discussion they had
“He knew the weight of his decision, and he knew that his choice placed him in the same spot as my ex-fiancé and his friends. Carlisle used to be wary around me, and that was the same with me. I had so much rage at him that I couldn’t even look at him in the eye.”
“The first time I ever did look at him was when I begged him to change Emmett. Carlisle kindly accompanied me after while Edward and Esme were helping Emmett with his thirst, asked me how I was feeling, asked me if I needed anything.”
“I remember staying silent the whole time, even though I desperately needed someone to hold me then. I was scared, scared that Emmett won’t welcome the life that I had introduced him into. That he would become another…me. I was scared that I had just caused Carlisle to carry the weight of two people not welcoming that change that he did.”
“What did he do?” Celine asked softly, allowing Rosalie to open up more as she listens to her story
“He held me.” Rosalie only answered “He wrapped his arm around me, in a way that no man has ever done to me when I was still human. He brushed my hair with his hands with the same gentleness as how he is when he’s on the operating room. It was protective, it was caring. It was my first time feeling a paternal love through touch.”
“Because, undeniably, underneath the narcissistic behavior that I have, I had yearned someone to see past through my beauty. I wanted someone to know me beyond being the most beautiful woman that they’ve seen. I needed someone to know that I’m more than just my beauty.”
“Carlisle became the first man to actually show care for me beyond being a display; I wasn’t a prized possession to brag about to him. I was Rosalie Hale, his eldest daughter.” She ended, a soft smile on her face
“I thought I was just imagining your presence.” Carlisle’s voice said softly from the doorway, a smile on his face at the sight of Celine
“Bella invited her, though she was creeping her out with what had happened to her when she was still human with us.” Rosalie answered, chuckling at Bella’s stories “Edward is in the forest with Esme, if I were to guess, they’ll be home soon. Emmett, Jasper, and Alice are in town right now, said that they’ll be home before night hits.”
“Thanks a lot, Rosie.” Carlisle said, walking closer to the two of them. Rosalie took it as a sign and stood up from her spot, letting Carlisle have her moment with Celine
“Hello handsome.” Celine greeted once Rosalie has left them in the living room all by themselves.
Seeing him warmed Celine’s heart, a soft, giddy smile forming on her face. The same way that their quiet moments in the hospital, the subtle showing of affection underneath the tables, and Carlisle being more vocal in respectfully declining any moves that the other nurses and patients are showing to him did to her.
She knew that she was falling for him, in ways that she didn’t think one could do so.
“How was spending time with Rosie and Bella?” He asked her, sitting down on the space where Rosalie and Bella were once sitting
“Both were just sharing bits of their past.” She replied, scooting closer to him
“Then, you must know?” Carlisle asked, a hint of shame in his tone “You know what I have damned Rosalie with?”
“Is that why you were easy to accept my hesitancy in becoming one of you?” Celine asked lowly, intertwining her hands with his
“All I wish is that you get to decide for yourself, my love.” He replied, leaving a peck of assurance on her temples
Bella and Rosalie’s stories didn’t really help Celine on answering the question whether she’ll become a vampire with them or not. Bella's journey involved considerable risk before her transformation, while Rosalie's transformation was marked by a lack of choice, both something that Celine wasn’t facing right now.
In the midst of her uncertainty about becoming a vampire, one thing remained clear to Celine: her heart belonged to Carlisle, the discussions of her being a vampire can be dealt with once it comes.

“Are you re— my love, what are you doing?” Carlisle asked, walking in Celine’s house and seeing her try to push her couch to the opposite side of the room
“Did you not receive my message that I won’t be available today?” Celine asked, a small frown on her face as she faces him
“Do you need some physical help?” He just asked curiously, looking at her with nothing but concern on her face
“I’ll be fine, just need to get this couch to the opposite side.” She answered kindly, smiling at him before going back and trying to push back the couch that she was pushing earlier
Carlisle decided to pull Celine away from the couch that she was pushing before carrying the couch to the empty spot where she actually planned to place it. With a cheeky grin, he faced her annoyed but amazed expression before going to her and pecking her cheeks.
“That was annoyingly cool.” Celine spoke up after a bit of staring at the couch and the now empty spot
“Comes with being 300 years old, I guess.” He playfully replied, pulling her hand and twirling her around
“You’re very pretty.” Carlisle whispered, resting his hand on Celine’s waist and pulling her closer to him with such gentleness that she felt like a porcelain doll
“Not Rosalie or Esme pretty though. Or Bella and Alice in some sense.” Celine answered offhandedly, catching the two of them off guard. She looked at him with wide eyes, scared of what his reaction will be
“Your beauty is one that reminds me of my humanity. Even if there isn’t much to remind me of it.” He only said, his hands tracing her cheeks with the same gentleness as earlier
“You are the radiant flowers that adorn the sacred corridors of cathedrals, my love; each petal is a representation of purity and elegance. You possess a purity that demands safeguarding, for there are those who would covet you not for your inherent worth, but merely to adorn themselves with a fragment of your radiance, like a prized possession to be displayed but never truly cherished.”
Carlisle went and pulled her for a deep kiss, his hands resting on her back for support. He wanted that kiss to radiate all the love that he has for Celine.
He may not have all of eternity to show her how much he loves her, but he has all of Celine’s life to prove to her that it’s her and that it will always be her that his undead heart beats for.
~~
After a few weeks, Celine was invited by Rosalie again, telling her that they haven’t seen each other in forever even though it only has been a few weeks. Having no choice but to give what she wanted, Celine prepared some overnight stuff, knowing that their house wasn’t human enough to have what she would need to actually stay over.
Walking in the house, she only saw Edward, who was reading, in the living room. She didn’t know where the others were, only knowing that Carlisle was with Renesmee, accompanying his granddaughter for the day.
“Rosalie and Emmett went out on a date, while Alice and Jasper are on Port Angeles right now, Jasper’s buying some new shoes. Esme and Bella are over at the cottage that they plan to gift to Alice and Jasper’s for their wedding anniversary.” Edward answered, not looking up from his book but having read the questions forming in her mind
Celine couldn't help but feel a bit unsettled by the unusual situation of being alone with Edward. Typically, he found reasons to excuse himself when she was around.  Though, it kind of helped with her anxiety, being with someone that could hear her every thought icked her.
“I really am trying to not read your mind right now.” Edward announced, finally looking at her, a guilty look on his face “I just hear yours much clearer since you’re the only one nearby.”
“Sorry, didn’t want you to feel guilty of your gift.” Celine said quietly, sitting on the opposite end of the couch that he was in, patiently waiting for someone to come. Someone that she could actually talk to
It was quiet for a moment, Celine was thinking of anything that Carlisle has told her about Edward to use as conversation starter, not wanting Edward to think about her otherwise. She was determined to connect with him on a deeper level, wanting to know him beyond just being the first person that Carlisle had been with.
“I was genuinely…terrified when Carlisle told us about you.” Edward started, getting Celine to look at him with furrowed eyebrows “We’ve seen with me how a blood singer can destabilize anyone in this diet, even having practiced this lifestyle for so long. We were scared that Carlisle, of all the vampires practicing this diet, might lose his control on you.”
“Blood singer?” Celine asked curiously
“A blood singer is a person whose blood sings for one specific vampire. It’s like their own personal brand of heroine.” He explained to her, reading her thoughts briefly before continuing “Bella was my blood singer when she was still human.”
“What does it mean to be a vampire’s blood singer then?” She asked again
Edward felt the need to gently redirect the discussion, knowing Carlisle would be better equipped to handle it. He recognized that Carlisle could provide a more reassuring explanation about their unique circumstances, assuring Celine of his continued composure and control around her.
But somehow, the way that Celine was looking at him with such curiosity made him want to answer her question. She was intrigued and Edward had the knowledge that was more than enough to give answers to her questions.
“It basically means that your blood will be addictive to Carlisle if he ever got a whiff or taste of it.” Edward bluntly replied before realizing what he had just said. He quickly focused his telepathy on Celine, seeing any reaction that he probably would need to raise to Carlisle because of his actions
“But Carlisle has seen me bleeding before, I get papercuts all the time.” Celine told him, her eyebrows furrowed “Maybe I’m not his blood singer or something.”
“Trust me, you are.” He only told her, an assuring smile on his face “I hear his thoughts about you all the time, especially when you two have first just met.”
“What does he think of me then?” She asked him
“It is not my position to tell you what goes in his mind.” Edward disagreed, shaking his head at her question “All I could say is that his heart is with you.”
“Why didn’t Carlisle and Esme just get paired to each other?” Celine asked him quietly
Edward looked at her, reading into Celine’s mind to see what had caused her to ask such a question, especially when Carlisle has shown nothing but love and compassion to her. But he was blasted with various doubting, showing that underneath her confident aura was a woman riddled with insecurities.
“They tried…at first.” Edward started slowly, keenly watching Celine just in case his stories just adds on her doubting
“Carlisle felt the need to take responsibility of Esme, and she agreed. She thought that the old crush that she had on him when she was younger would blossom into something more, which was why she agreed. Overtime, they realized that they weren’t fit for each other.”
“He was willing to keep the relationship going, out of responsibility. But Esme stopped him, told him that they should go as brothers and sisters instead, knowing that it would fit them more. She told him that the crush she had on him was merely attraction, and that she could not see him as a partner.”
“Esme isn’t who Carlisle needs as a partner, but she’s who the coven needs as a matriarch.” Edward ended, satisfied with how he’s worded their story
“Did Carlisle like her that way?” Celine asked him curiously
“He says he did, but frankly speaking, he was just convincing himself that he liked her that way.” He answered earnestly
“I wish I could say more, to get you to change your mind about if you’re worthy of Carlisle or not. But all I can tell you is that the entirety of him is in your palm.”
