christmas alphabet - spencer reid

a/n: request: this is just fluff, no warnings in place. enjoy!!

A = After Dark (a date after dark? late night cuddles? surprise mistletoe?)

On cold winter evenings, when Spencer is not travelling for work, the two of you like to cuddle up on the coach under a fluffy blanket. A cup of hot chocolate in hand; with an even number of marshmallows each. The night is either spent discussing both of your days in detail or watching old Christmas classics, like Miracle on 34th Street for example.

B = Baking (how does baking sweets go? for or with someone?)

The brunette doctor is skilled at literally anything he sets his mind to, but baking is not his forte. The kitchen always ends up a huge mess, and whatever concoction he was attempting is dangerous to eat. However, Spencer enjoys baking with you. Together you make a quite the team and the gingerbread cookies are a big hit with the rest of his team.

C = Cold (it’s cold out! how do they react to the freezing winter air? does someone else help with fighting the cold?)

Spencer enjoys the lower temperatures, they’re a nice contrast to sunny stuffy Las Vegas where he grew up. You on the other hand struggle with the crispy icy air and often find yourself stealing his scarf for extra warmth when you’re out and about.

D = Date (christmas date! how is it asked? where do they go?)

You ask the brunette agent to go ice-skating with you. Spencer is reluctant at first but you hold onto him tight and any fears wash away. You whirl together around the rink in slow circles, simply enjoying the moment.

E = Evening Dance (a night at a ball? or maybe just silly dancing in the kitchen?)

Spencer catches you one wintery morning humming along to Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley. He gently takes your hand in his and the two of you slowly sway around the living room.

F = Fireplace (how do they spend their time by the fire? hang stockings? fall asleep on each other?)

The two of you bought stockings with your initials, a lovely red pair with a fuzzy top. Since there is no fireplace at your place Spencer hung them underneath your mounted television. And whenever you feel like cozying up on the coach together you simply turn on a ten-hour fireplace video on YouTube.

G = Grateful (how grateful are they to spend time with others? enjoy being alone or with others?)

The hazel-eyed doctor is extremely grateful to spend time with you, not only over the holidays. While he likes the occasional meet-up with his team for after work drinks at their favourite bar, Spencer definitely prefers spending time with you alone. He's loves comfortable company more than anything.

H = Hosting Family (how does family work? are they invited to others, or stay with their s/o?)

While Spencer would love to spend Christmas with his mom, his unpredictable hours don’t usually allow him to make set plans. Therefore instead you decide that you will spend the holidays with your family, and if by chance he is free to join he will.

I = Invitation (a sudden invitation comes up! what’s it for? how do they react?)

An invitation arrives for dinner with his team and their loved ones on a faithful Saturday in December. Of course Spencer asks you to accompany him; he wouldn't have it any other way. You’ve met his friends before so you shouldn't be nervous, but yet for some reason you were. This occasion felt different somehow. More intimate.

J = Just In Time (the present arrives just barely in time! how do they rush up to hand it to them? do they wait for the perfect time?)

Spencer spent weeks trying to decide what to get you for Christmas. Nothing he thought of seemed right. You weren’t a material person, which is one of your many qualities he adored. He wanted your present to be thoughtful, he wanted something meaningful. About a week before the holidays, he came across a website that sold customisable star maps. He ordered one then and there - a map that showcased the stars the night you first met.

K = Kiss (how do they react to a kiss? flustered? happy? surprised?)

When Spencer first kissed you it was gentle, almost timid. As if he was afraid to fully let himself go. Now when he kisses you he does so with all his might and immense passion. He cups your face with his hands and pulls you in as close as humanly possible.

L = Lights (christmas lights are important! how do they hang them? around the house? on the tree? outside? what kind of shenanigans go on?)

The brunette agent had given you a key to his apartment. One night in late November he comes home after working a case to find you already there, tangled in a rope of lights. You tried to surprise him by slightly decorating his place for the holidays, but instead found yourself entwined. Spencer can’t help but chuckle at the sight. He sets off to help you; after taking a picture to commemorate this precious moment.

M = Mistletoe (how do they react to suddenly being placed under a mistletoe with their crush/lover?)

He gets flustered at first, mainly because you’re in public and everyone is watching. But the second your lips brush against his the whole world dissolves and he gets completely lost in you.

N = Naughty or Nice? (how has your character been this past year? are they a trickster or a good of heart?)

Definitely good of heart. Spencer is one of the kindest people you have ever met. He’s caring, he always puts you first and stops at nothing to make you happy. The only time you could describe him as naughty would be in bed.

O = Opening Presents (how do they react to opening presents?)

Eagerly, although very neatly. Even though he is extremely excited to see what you got him, the hazel-eyed doctor rips off the wrapping paper so precisely that it is actually good to reuse.

P = Packaging (wrapping presents is never easy. how do they fair?)

Packing presents with Spencer is just as organised. All the pieces of the festive wrapping paper are a perfect size for each gif and the ribbon is measured before cut to the correct length; so that there is no waste.

Q = Question (how do they confess? is it the big question, or something smaller but just as intimate?)

“Y/N?” Spencer catches your attention. You look up from the book in your lap and meet his honey gaze. “Yes?” “How would you feel about spending next years holiday in a cabin somewhere? Just the two of us?” A smile spread across your facial features. “I thought you didn't like to plan that far ahead, especially around Christmas time.” You teased. He smiled back at you. “I don’t, but with you I can break a few of my rules.”

R = Relaxing (how do they relax with their s/o? the best ways? the cutest?)

Watching Christmas movies, cooking, discussing various topics, or sitting in comfortable silence and reading. Simply enjoying each others company.

S = Snow (how do they like the snow?)

Spencer likes to share uncommon facts about the snow; more than the weather phenomenon itself. “Snow is actually translucent, not white.” The brunette doctor chimed as the two of you looked out the window admiring the first snowfall of the season. “It’s the light reflected off a snowflake’s faceted surface that creates its white appearance.”

T = Tree (how do they decorate their tree?)

Gold fairy lights intertwined with a simple white wreathe hung loosely around the Christmas tree at your apartment. Mixed between the more traditional-looking gold bobbles were various fancier ornaments that reminded both of you of your relationship, such as: a stack of books, R2-D2, fast food items, gin bottle, a coffee cup.

U = Undying Love (how did they fall in love? what was the real moment they found out?)

Your constant smile and positive outlook on life, not to mention your delicate beauty, lured Spencer in right from the start. He fell for you hard and pretty early into your relationship. And now not a day goes by where he doesn't tell you just how much he loves you.

V = Villa (how is it in their house? festive? normal? candles?)

Apart from the decorations you had plopped around, the doctors apartment remains normal. The two of you have focused more of your time and energy decorating your place - from the living room to the kitchen and bedroom, there is even a miniature Santa in the bathroom.

W = Wish (what is their biggest wish for the coming year? or in general?)

Spencers biggest wish for the coming year would be to keep evolving in this relationship with you. He hopes to grow even closer with you, learn more about you and explore the world with you (if he ever gets the time off work).

X = eXcitement (general excitement about christmas? love it? hate it?)

He’s excited because you’re excited. Seeing you so happy around the holiday season warms his heart and he hopes he’ll get to cherish these moments with you for years to come.

Y = You (how does their s/o react to them being beautiful? handsome? to them in general in the christmas season? how in love are they?)

The brunette doctor constantly reminds you how perfect you are. Whether you’re dressed up for an evening at the bar with friends or simply sitting on the sofa in a matching wintery pyjama set, Spencer will be sure to point out just how beautiful you look. You of course do the same. There is something about hearing you say how handsome he looks that makes his heart skip a beat.

Z = Zzzz… (how do they sleep? lots of blankets? none? cuddled closely to their loved one?)

Wrapped up in a large duvet and blankets mainly because you get cold during the night. Spencer’s arm is placed gently yet firmly around you. He holds you close, quietly snoring into the crook of your neck.

A Achievements: None in recent years... the last I’d say was getting my BA back in 2015, but that’s just been collecting dust on a shelf and I have no plans to pursue anything in psychology anymore, so it feels more like a waste. :/ I have no idea what I want to do.

Arizona or Alaska: Arizona is even worse than where I live in terms of heat, it’s straight up desert. And ya’ll know how I hate the summer and don’t well at all with the heat. I’ve been a couple times cause that’s my grandparents live and yeah, no thanks. I haven’t been to Alaska, but I’d like to visit.

Build: Thin and underweight. I used to have great upper body strength and my arms were kinda toned, but I lost that. I’m weak.

a ficlet i’ll probably never finish under the cut

it was a thing i wrote for Santa Clause 3

content warning for blood hate crimes and general gore

When Lucy finally lets go, everyone sets eyes on Jack. Brown hair, white suit, already Jack Frost looks much friendlier and warmer. The Legendary Figures stand behind, encircling, celebrating this new victory.

Calvin is the only one that sets eyes on the split running down Jack’s lip, watches as it starts to bleed, takes a step forward when Jack’s left eyelid starts to swell unnaturally.

Something is wrong. Something is horribly wrong. Lucy speaks.

“…Where’d you get that? What’s happening?”

Calvin turns his head to the others, wondering why the other Figures are pleased. They’re all murmuring to each other in hushed tones, wandering off, and Sandman is the only one that avoids Calvin’s gaze. He must know something is wrong, right? He hears Frost mumbling apologies and laughing, and Calvin turns back around to look back in panic.

“No, no it’s fine! This is just- what happens when I lose my p- powers… I’m gonna be fi- i. I.”

Calvin can’t let Lucy watch this. He presses hands over her eyes and pulls her away as he watches, trembling as Frost crumples to the floor like a dead weight. Rumpled hair, torn suit, broken nose, cracked bleeding ribs. He presses at Lucy’s face almost enough to hurt as he watches bloodstains leak into the suit, old words he didn’t want to subject Lucy to.

This is no longer Jack Frost, force of nature breathing snow and ice into existence with no effort. This is the image of a man bleeding to death in the early 1920s, hijacked outside of a prohibition speakeasy because he dared to ask another man to dance. This was the result of a hate crime.

This wasn’t right.

Calvin stiffens when he begins to notice how cold Lucy’s skin feels under his hands. The red of her hair is fading. Her lips have gone blue. Calvin stops breathing.

“She…She’s Frost now? Do they have that power?”

Lucy flexes her fingers, backing away from Calvin’s grasp, wheezing. The cold feels wrong in her lungs, in her skin, in her heart. It’s heavy and sharp like a knife, like being plunged in cold water and never feeling the warmth again. She sobs, running off, and Calvin goes to chase after her, but a soft hand clasps his shoulder.

“They’ve done this before. I was U’akimu. They did not give me the chance to turn this down- My duties to every dream precluded me from escaping my fate. You, Calvin, you have time. Winter only lasts so long.” Sandman murmurs, hushed and panicked, before slipping away to Duty, to Sleep, fading back into unconsciousness and sleepwalking like a shrouded dragur roaming the halls of the dead.

Calvin panics.

He’s only been Santa for three or four years. This was still all so new. He had nothing for guidance- The snowglobes. The snowglobes of previous Santas. Maybe there was something there. Maybe he could still do something.

Calvin only has enough time to check for a pulse. It’s faint. Hopefully the time to run to the hall of snowglobes isnt that long.

He runs faster than he ever has before in this new form, pressing his full weight through the doors after entering the code.

The snowglobes are gone.

Without snow, there were no snowglobes. Calvin knew that. But this was something entirely different. The room was filling with water fast, the door was closing behind him, and he had no way out otherwise. Something curls around his leg, some sort of root, and he feels the water surging over his head.

When he’s finally realized he can still breathe, he finally opens his eyes. There are millions of eyes, all strange sizes, no two the same, all circling him, watching him.

“Frost is dying. They gave his powers to Lucy. Please, I don’t know whats happening. Whatever this is, please. Please do something.”

The root pulls him down, only for him to realize it’s hair as he looks into the dead eyes of a severed head. Its cold, dead lips part, bubbles rising from them, blood dribbling upwards from its blackened teeth and gums.

“T H E E Y E. G I V E ME B A C K T H E E Y E.”

“I don’t have-“

“T H E G I R L. THEYVE G I VE N HER THEN.”

“I dont know! I dont understand! Do you mean- to take her eyes? Who’s eyes?”

“Y O U. Y O U ARE OF W II S D O M. Y E T YOU HAVE NOT PA I D.”

Calvin falls silent, trying madly to make sense of this. He’s underwater, surrounded by eyes. There’s a severed head talking about wisdom and eyes.

Suddenly, Calvin recalls his college course on vikings all at once, and everything horrifyingly clicks.

The current Santa concept stemmed directly from Odin. So did the Jack Frost myth, drawn straight from Old Man Winter, all manner of pagan beliefs extrapolated from a singular source. This was all by design, a rift of power, a division between two different individuals that once belonged to one being that was once respected as a deity.

He was taking Jack’s rightful territory. And now, he was in Mimir’s Well.

“I owe you my eye.”

“C O RR E CT.”

“If I give you my eye, will you save Frost? Can you do that?”

“I C AN GRANT WI S D O M. O D IN. AL L F A THER. P R OT E C TOR. SE R VE YO U R PURPOSE.”

Calvin feels the cold knife of pain, of tearing retina. He sees light, flickering and blinding, and then nothing. He opens his eyes, only to have the right return any sort of meaningful information.

The room is snowglobes again. His own snowglobe floats ominously in front of him, the metal of the bottom now carved with intricate patterns like all the others.

He has to find Frost’s snowglobe. It’s the only way.

Because I’m a sap for Christmas and the idea of a Varia Christmas definitely amuses me, I indulged in this meme for Belphegor! I hope you all have as much fun reading it as I had writing it!

A(ngel): The Varia are definitely unique and it’s no surprise that they top their tree with something rather unique too - a skull wearing a Santa’s hat. It is a real human skull, they’re just not sure who it actually used to be.

B(ook): While Belphegor doesn’t like to read, he’ll occasionally enjoy being read to during the holidays, but not from any of the traditional holiday novels. He prefers something with a bit of an edge, while still being festive, like NOS4A2 by Joe Hill.

C(arols): Bel really likes singing Jingle Bells, though not the usual version. He prefers the version that goes ‘the snow is turning red, I think you’re almost dead...’, while throwing knives at people with each new line.

D(inner): That’s easy - Bel enjoys fighting with his fellow Varia members over who gets the last roll or the best cut of meat. It’s the battle that makes the food taste so good, after all.

E(ve): Bel spends Christmas Eve being as lazy as possible. He’d already gotten his gifts professionally wrapped and has thrown them under the tree the night before, so he just kind of goofs off, sleeping in late, watching horrible Christmas movies, bothering the other Varia members, drinking lots of hot chocolate and eating cookies by the handful.

F(amily): Though he sometimes gets tempted to spend the holiday alone, Bel would be lonely without the rest of the Varia around on Christmas.

G(rinch): Christmas is Bel’s second-favourite holiday. Why wouldn’t it be? There’s a crap-ton of food, lots of tacky and cheesy decorations for him to ridicule, and people buy him things. He loves it.

H(oliday): Bel’s favourite holiday isn’t Christmas though; his favourite holiday is Black Friday. He loves shopping and the sales on Black Friday are enjoyable but honestly, he enjoys people watching that day the best. People get so pathetically worked up and he feasts on every argument, screaming match, and fistfight that he can watch, sometimes even encouraging people to start them.

I(ce): Bel’s too naturally lazy to really go ice-skating often. It’s too physical for him. However, he’s got enough natural grace and athleticism to be a really good skater and when he does go ice-skating, he’ll actually sort of enjoy doing so, though the enjoyment wears off quickly after the first hour or so.

J(oy): Bel, volunteer? The only thing he volunteers for is to be the taste tester for the cookies or to help decorate the tree - and by help, he means supervise and boss the people doing the actual decorating around.

K(rampus): If there was a naughty list, Bel would be one of the first names. He deserves nothing but coal for years and years and years to come since he’ll never once make it to the nice list.

L(ocation): If he isn’t able to spend Christmas at the Varia mansion, where the staff and underlings can coddle and serve him, then he wants to spend it at a luxury hotel, where he can be pampered and spoiled by that staff.

M(istletoe): Mistletoe and kissing under it is the stupidest thing Bel has ever heard. He wouldn’t do it and he’d mock anyone who did. He cuts down every branch he sees hanging in doorways, stomping it underfoot.

N(ew Year’s): Bel doesn’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. They only get broken after the first week anyway. He likes celebrating New Year’s though and will check out a party or go out hunting for something fun to occupy himself that night.

O(rnament): Bel doesn’t have a special Christmas ornament but he’s very picky about how the main tree in the mansion is decorated and will have his own personal, smaller tree that is always lavishly decorated, often in golden or silver tones, with personalized knife ornaments.

P(resent): Is it expensive? Potentially deadly? Perfect for lazy people to continue being lazy? Delicious? If it hits any of the former statements, then it’s a good gift. And you want to give him a good gift - he tends to kill or maim those who don’t.

Q(uick!): - Write a short holiday ficlet for the character!

R(eindeer): If the evening wasn’t horribly cold and he was alone on the sleigh, with luxurious fur blankets, warm hot chocolate, and fresh cookies, he would love a sleigh ride and would demand a second turn around.

S(tocking): Aside from various Christmas candy, Bel demands a Christmas orange and apple. It’s the only time he’ll actually eat fruit. He really enjoys getting gift cards in his stocking, new socks, new mittens and scarves, DVD movies or CD’s, and playing cards (he loses cards from his already existing decks too often). He collects jackknives too and likes getting a new one in his stocking every year.

T(ree): Bel enjoys having a tree that screams Christmas. It has to be bright and festive, with lots of twinkling lights, candy canes, ornaments hung perfectly symmetrically, and absolutely no goddamn tinsel. Tinsel is the devil.

U(nwrap): Bel’s too lazy to wrap the gifts he’s giving people. He figures that gift-wrapping services exist for a reason and that he’s being charitable, creating a job for someone. When he unwraps gifts, he tends to tear into it, not even bothering to read the tag to see who it’s from ,eager to see what’s inside before quickly throwing it into the ‘good’ or ‘bad’ pile.

V(ideo): Christmas movies of a more unique bend are right up Bel’s alley. While National Lampoon is definitely a Christmas staple, he also enjoys Gremlins, Die Hard, Jack Frost - the horror movie, not the kid friendly Christmas movie, and Santa Slays prime Christmas entertainment.

W(hite): Bel does prefer a white Christmas. Snow is a part of Christmas, though he doesn’t want sub-zero temperatures. If it isn’t snowy that year, he’ll really seriously suggest that they vacation somewhere with snow simply so their Christmas can be white.

X(-mas): Bel couldn’t be bothered to send Christmas cards and unless a Christmas card sent to him had money or a gift card in it, he really wouldn’t be bothered with it, chucking it right into the garbage without bothering to see who sent it.

Y(ule log): It’s definitely not only a Christmas necessity but a winter necessity! Nothing is better, in Bel’s mind, than taking a nice long nap in front of a warm fire. He tends to hog the best spot to get warm in front of the fire as well but he’ll never tend to the fire or start one, demanding others do that for him.

Z(zzz): Bel loves sleeping in and that isn’t going to change just because it’s Christmas. He’ll want to sleep as late as he can and will be lazy about heading downstairs. Once he opens presents and has dinner and lots of junk food into him, he’ll be relaxed and bored and will often nap late in the day while staying up late that night enjoying his new things.
