what people think alice oseman books are like: blushing awkward first meetings, little chaste first kisses, giggling teenage boys holding hands
what alice oseman books are actually like: hey what if your entire personality is actually a carefully constructed facade to make other people like you and to disguise the fact that you don't actually know who you are. if you stripped away all the walls, all the artificial things that you think make you up, what would be left? what would happen if you stopped living for other people and started living for yourself? is there even a person in there or just a gaping void with nothing left in it? wouldn't that be fucked up? do you even know yourself? do you even have a real personality anymore?

“Heartstopper is too puritanical, real teens don’t act like that, they party, drink, have sex and are wild”
Proceeds to ignore introverted teens.
Proceeds to ignore asexual teens.
Proceeds to ignore alosexual teens who aren’t that interested on sex.
Proceeds to ignore teens who have trauma involving intimacy or substance abuse.
Proceeds to ignore the neurodivergent teens that aren’t comfortable at parties.
Proceeds to ignore the neurotypical teens who also aren’t comfortable at parties.
Proceeds to ignore teens who don’t engage in these activities due to religious reasons.
Proceeds to ignore teens who don’t engage in these activities simply because they don’t want to.
Proceeds to ignore every experience that isn’t yours.

Cheers to Heartstopper for being one of the very few teen romance shows that doesn't make a big deal out of prom. Like yes, the characters are excited about making a grand entrance with cute outfits..... But that's literally all there is to it. Prom isn't life-changing, it's quite frankly boring, as Charlie mentioned. I loved how the group ditched prom and went to Nick's place to have fun.

tori and nick’s friendship is seriously so underrated
like actually. cmon. when charlie was in the hospital, they would spend four hours in the car together multiple times a week, and nick even said that they got to know each other pretty well. and i’m assuming that they talk a bit when nick comes over to charlie’s house too. plus they’re the same age and like they would just be great friends istg

the scene where nick and charlie try and stay up all night is so so 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴. we can see how carefree and happy they truly are. no one is watching or judging them, they have no curfew, no homophobes or bullies to sort out. its purely them in their own bubble, and i think its so lovely to have a connection with someone where you can be yourself and not be scared because you know they will be there no matter what. in that moment they are 𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘦
