i loved that charlie 's scars were on display in this moment, they don't magically appear or disappear, they are always present, they are normalised, they are loved, he doesn't have to feel embarrassed or scared of nick's reaction to them anymore and nick loves the scars as much as any other part of charlie and i think its such a tiny, significant and precious moment.
there isn't enough positive sh representation. characters are almost always loved despite the scars, not with the scars. so thank you alice, heartstopper for that.

In his apology, Ben tells Charlie “I just wanted something good. You were something good.” Their relationship was all about what Ben wanted and needed, so for Ben it was something good. He could have this relationship entirely on his terms, and Charlie was treating him very kindly and respecting Ben’s needs while they were together. But Ben didn’t do the same for Charlie. He only cared about having something good - not about being something good for Charlie.
I think there’s an important lesson here, beyond Ben. Since Heartstopper was released, there’s been a really large contingent of fans talking about Nick as the perfect fantasy boyfriend. Wondering where their Nick is, or even complaining that people like Nick don’t exist in real life. And I think that’s missing the point. The Nick and Charlie relationship is not about Charlie lucking out and magically finding the perfect boyfriend. It’s about the mutual kindness, communication, and respect between them. It’s about them being good to each other.
Maybe the takeaway shouldn’t be “when will someone treat me that way?” Maybe it should be “I want to treat someone that way.”

Me when I remember that, I'll never have a relationship like Nick and Charlie's and that I don't live in the heartstopper world.

this moment seems so insignificant but it is actually SO powerful. you can see charlie expressing his actual feelings instead of blaming himself and apologizing for something that isn't even his fault, and nick makes him feel safe and appreciated enough to do that. charlie's confidence has been buried inside of him after everything, but we can see him coming out of his shell when he's with nick. i love them so so much.

heartstopper is so fairytale coded, a little queer fairytale that we never got to read, a fairytale which depicts healthy relationships and friendships between queer people who get a happy ending. a bedtime story that you read, that you dream of and hope of getting one day. heartstopper is really the safe haven for so many people.
SO SO grateful for this webcomic, for this book, for alice and the amazing team.
