this narlie hug is the Bane of my existence i am crumbling to the floor as i type this Let me tell u why . it’s bc in this scene, for the whole week nick had to endure being forced to sit next to b*n in his revision period; endured his taunts and shitty attitude and the doubt he was trying to plant into nick’s mind, listening to him only think of nick’s boyfriend as an object and bully charlie behind his back. and what’s even better? his homophobic brother is home from uni, so nick practically gets the same treatment he does at school at home but instead of ben, it’s his own brother. on top of that, he’s stressed about his exams, trying to navigate coming out, and of course, charlie was grounded. but charlie snuck out for nick anyway to see him, and i just. you can FEEL how much that meant to nick; that charlie was there for him and willing to break the rules if it meant he could see nick even if he’d get in trouble. and then when they meet up, they hug and it’s the way you can see Nick hold Charlie so tight despite only having one arm to, burying his face into charlie’s shoulder and scrunching his eyes up tight— you just know nick needed that hug SO bad. he’s been having to put up with so much shit from other people, he’s been so stressed out, but none of that really matters when he has charlie there to hold and to talk to and to cheer him up.
tldr ; THAT BOY IS NICK’S HOME AS LONG AS CHARLIE IS THERE WITH HIM EVERYTHING IS OKAY OIUUUGGHH HE IS SO IN LOVE 🙁🙁🙁🙁
I liked Heartstopper from the start, but where it really became THE comfort show for me was the bowling party in S01E05. At that point, I didn't know so much about the show yet and how wholesome it was overall. Plus it was half of the season so I expected something to go really downhill.
But like...
The scene where Tao tells Nick that Charlie really likes him, and he better stop messing with him or else? And Nick is just like "Okay, fair enough" ?
Like, no arguing. No back talk. Nothing. Nick just acknowledges this is how Charlie feels about him and how it looks like to other people, especially to his friends. Obviously we know he's not really messing with Charlie, but that doesn't matter. For others, it looks like that. And Nick knows, that's not right. There's no ego involved.
And the scene where Nick overhears Charlie and Tao in the bathroom??
Holy moly. So many things could go wrong here. I was really worried.
I was expecting Nick to either stay there and confront Charlie about it somehow, or leave and stay radio silent.... anything but hugging Charlie and nearly crying in his arms. Then afterwards, Nick immediately sets the record straight on everything - explains to Charlie the thing with the date, expresses his feelings for him... admits he's made a mistake that is worth saying the banned "S" word. Just wow.
(The way it feels so unrealistic tho, when it's literally just good communication. The bar irl is in hell, huh?)
Of course Nick isn't the perfect human and he messes up sometimes, but he always owns up to it. Like the next day, when he explains everything to Imogen as well. He doesn't sugarcoat stuff, just tells her that's how he feels. And she listens. She is obviously hurt, but doesn't put him down for it, not even the next day in front of the rugby lads.
Incredible.
The way this show handles communication is so great.
I hope Netflix includes the scene where Sarah and Nick have "the talk" in the car! After the spectacularly epic emotional scene essayed by Kit Connor and Olivia Colman in S1E8 Boyfriend, it will be fun to see them portray "awkward" 😂🤣🫶
i loved that charlie 's scars were on display in this moment, they don't magically appear or disappear, they are always present, they are normalised, they are loved, he doesn't have to feel embarrassed or scared of nick's reaction to them anymore and nick loves the scars as much as any other part of charlie and i think its such a tiny, significant and precious moment.
there isn't enough positive sh representation. characters are almost always loved despite the scars, not with the scars. so thank you alice, heartstopper for that.
Does anyone else feel like watching heartstopper is like someone making you a hot chocolate and hugging you and promising you that you're worthy of love or do I need more therapy?
Tbh i think a Lot about how every time Nick is with Charlie and in a situation/place where he clearly expresses feeling unsure/nervous/uncomfortable about something he almost immediately goes to look for/look at Charlie (see: when Nick wanted to tell the group at Tara’s party that he gave Charlie his hicky, when he went to leave the room at Charlie’s sleepover before he came out to Imogen, when Nick’s dad asked if him or Charlie had found girlfriends yet at the Nelson+Spring dinner get together, when Nick got overwhelmed and started to panic at the bonfire party, etc etc) because THAT IS HIS COMFORT PERSON!! THAT’S NICK’S ROCK!! Charlie makes Nick feel safe and comfortable and grounded in situations where he struggles to feel those ways on his own!! All he has to do in a stressful situation is turn his head and see that Charlie is right beside him, and he isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and just his mere presence is enough to sooth Nick’s worries and/or give him the confidence he needs to deal with whatever it is that’s bothering him. Charlie is the eye of Nick’s storms. He takes one look at his boyfriend, Charlie will give him that small, reassuring smile/look, and everything starts to feel, at the very least, just that much easier and more bearable for Nick to handle because at the end of the day he knows that if everything goes to shit he’ll still have Charlie by his side, and what could matter more than that? Nick Nelson loves Charlie Spring, when he said Charlie was his favorite person in s1, HE MEANT IT!! Charlie encourages Nick in such subtle and seemingly minuscule ways that are always extremely effective in giving Nick those little nudges he sometimes needs (to be reminded that !! hey everything’s alright I’m here for u !!) because of how much they love eachother and i just think that is such a sweet, sweet thing :(
Tldr ; Sometimes I remember how Kit Connor once said Charlie is like home to Nick and therefor i am once again Narlie brainrotting
So, I’ve been rewatching Heartstopper for a 10th time or something and in ep. 5. Girls, there’s this scene (one of my faves) when Charlie and Nick sit next to the drums and Charlie starts talking that he’s happy that Nick’s there, but also that he’s afraid, that people will find out about them, because they spend so much time together. He didn’t wanted for Nick to go through the same things he has and it was something that Ben was afraid of. He was scared to be seen with a boy
Nick as a reply says, that he started to search bisexuality and that he think it’s him, and that made me realize that Nick wanting to keep their relationship a secret, was never about him being with Charlie or a boy for that matter, it was about him not knowing who he is anymore. You know how it it’s when you came out that you’re in relationship with the same sex, people start asking you question about your sexuality, and Nick was struggling with figuring that out. As soon as he realized and accepted that he’s bi, he told Charlie that he don’t want to hide their relationship anymore.
He was never ashamed to be seen with Charlie and that’s why he will always bee different that Ben.
season 1 ep6 Charlie has chocolate milkshake and Nick has bubblegum which according to Charlie is "a crime."
as we know Nick and Charlie's 'colours' are Blue and Yellow. if Charlie had a Banana milkshake and Nick has his original Bubblegum milkshake the colours would resemble Blue and Yellow 💙💛
And possible it would show their journey in showing each others interests and caring for each others opinions. I know this is soo random but it just popped in my head lmao
We start with what we in the states call ‘Open House’ or ‘Parent-Teacher Conference.’ Naturally, the golden retriever is the golden boy – as is this smug dildo whose dad looks just as smug. 👇
Things do not go well for Charlie whose clearly been wilding for rugby tits so much that his grades have nosedived.
More thoughts under the cut:
STANDARD DISCLAIMER: PLEASE keep in mind that my worldview may not be the same as yours - nor are we the same age (I guarantee it!) The way I enjoy Heartstopper may not be the way you do--but neither of us is wrong, and if you take issue with how I interact with the show as a fan, it's YOUR ISSUE and I don't care.
Getting this out of the way – I know she’s old enough to be my grandkid, but she hot as hell, do not judge me.
Okay, that bit of thirsty aside, let’s move on…
Hopechest isn’t dealing with the fact that Charlie truly has moved on to bigger and better things.
No honey, Charlie never liked you. He was vulnerable and isolated, and you swooped in like the emotional predator you are.
Here we have Nick serving up some Barry’s loose leaf.
Damn, Hopechest cooking with the brightest gas.
I’m catching hell for this, but I think Hopechest is right to a degree—more so in season one. And deep down, Nick knows it.
Nick’s day just keeps laying it on thick.
The day is saved!
This scene had me tearing up a bit because I didn’t find my social fam until I hit college either—other people like me, that understood the bullshit I was going through because they were also dealing with the same scent of crap.
A sweet moment gets ruined...
I thought this scene played better in the comic…
This was painful – Charlie wanted to protect Nick and he really thinks he dropped the ball.
Hot dad being the ‘good parent, in the mom-smackdown scenario.
Nick/Kit titty stans got plenty of fanservice in this episode. Plenty.
True to form, Tao needs help.
Lastly, I want to give a moment of silence to real victim in this episode:
