ough!! i'm gonna kinda copy & paste a lot bc i was infodumping to @artinandwritin last night & didn't realize how much i'd talked abt!!! but!!! this is more the plot that parallels the first movie!!! bc if i kept talking abt it beyond that it'd get super long 😭 (longer than it already is)
for my au, the dragons are obv a thing & are more large dog sized than giagantic beasts but i think there'd be more of a conservationist push to it. the sanctuary already exists & valka is more like hiccup's mom in the books where she's absent for long periods due to traveling for work (dragon conservation) & hiccup is indoctrinated to it at a young age
so when he's 15 & meets toothless he already knows dragons are good & cool. it's the establishment of trust between him & toothless that stays the same as toothless is harmed by hiccup still, on accident but also not(?), in that they have traps set up for dragons for tracking purposes but hiccup sets his up wrong
so toothless loses his tail & while it leans more into hiccup making the automatically working tail like in gift of the night fury & httyd 3, he's still very present & active in toothless' learning of how to use it & their bond is SUPER strong (bestieeees)
obv with valka being so absent, stoick struggles with maintaining a relationship with her & bc hiccup looks up to her so much, they also have communication issues bc while stoick in my au doesn't see dragons as evil that *need* to be killed since they're relatively common animals, but he sees a danger in caring for them as well as seeing valka's more extreme version of conservation to be detrimental to having human connection
he also is just very Dad™️ in not having the same interests & struggles to connect, so he's harsher than he should be sometimes when it comes to hiccup & toothless
hiccup losing his leg is still caused by the red death, as it's a gigantic dragon thought to have long since gone extinct
hiccup lowkey has been keeping toothless a secret to this point bc if it got out he might have the potential last night fury, he'd get a lot of media coverage & he's afraid he'd be forced to give toothless up :(
but at the core of it all it's abt spreading education abt dragons as they are endangered & hiccup makes that his mission & takes over the conservatory (with stoick paying the bills until hiccup can do it on his own lmao)!! they go around locally & do "shows" to help spread the word & get younger kids into conservation work!!!!
the poacher & hunter issues come later but this is the basic gist that sets up the entire au & is the big initial plot!! all while hiccup is dealing with being a loner & missing his mom & wishing he could connect with his dad (two out of three of these are generally resolved/being worked on to success :))

This is a dilemma for me. I have loved doing this blog and going out to look for pictures and interesting things to bring here has given me motivation and meaning through years of struggle with depression and several kinds of grief. Going out to look for pictures has put me in situations where I have seen incredible beauty, much of which I never really managed to capture.
Also, the many warm and kind messages I've received from people all over the world have given me heart and made me feel less meaningless as a person and more connected. Sometimes I've been criticized for buying the checkmarks and giving money to Tumblr but I wanted to do what I could because Tumblr has been my one happy and safe place online.
But now this. To me AI in relation to creativity is just a way for well-to-do but untalented people, the proverbial tech bros, to profit from other people's hard work and creativity. It has no redeeming value in relation to creativity and is actively harmful to artists of all kinds.

I don't even count myself among the real creatives, artists and writers and others who have worked hard and put years into honing their crafts, into learning to translate their hearts and unique spirits into their creative expression. I just see beautiful things and take pictures of them. But it would still make me sick to see AI works based on my pictures, on these times and places that have meant so much to me.
Recently I saw a set of cat 'photos' on here that everyone was reblogging and exclaiming over but that to me seemed to just be AI art that was more convincing than most. As time goes on more and more output of AI is going to be almost indistinguishable from real works and unscrupulous people will pass them off as real, getting credit for what was actually created by others.
Whether they profit from them becomes almost irrelevant at that point because what's worse is that we will have less and less sense of what is real. And as some have pointed out AI will now also be scraping from AI, muddying the waters further from here on in. This is an apocalypse of sorts, an apocalypse of creativity, ultimately likely to kill the joy of artistic endeavor for many who would otherwise produced brilliant, beautiful, funny, and/or shockingly original things.
I'm still parsing and dissecting my thoughts and feelings about what Tumblr has done and how to react. Staying and leaving my blog up feels like consent. I am not confident in the integrity of anyone connected with scraping sites for AI. I'm not convinced that a little toggle in settings is going to make much of a difference in the long run.
On the other hand I like posting here and I have received enough messages over the years to know that my blog is a positive influence on some lives. I was looking forward to May and June and posting pictures of the incredible beauty of eastern Pennsylvania in those months. And I was planning on making a side blog for posting some poetry I've been working on. It will break my heart to leave.
I haven't decided yet. Believe it or not this whole thing has given me awful physical symptoms. I'll let you know when I decide. Thank you again for your kind and lovely note!

How to survive your first year in uni
(from a 3rd year student that only learned all this this past semester)
(applicable to other stages of your academic life, ofc, i was needing this advice rn in the end of my bachelor's)
1. Find ways to be interested in all classes.
Being it by watching documentaries/movies, wanting to be the smartass that knows quantum physics in family reunions, or wanting to tutor your crush on maths (not me doing that to learn integrals lol). You have to at least find a short term motivation to study for that class. That's the most important bit to be able to study it. But of course you also have to be interested in your classes, so try to watch tv shows about it to make it look cooler. (me watching big bang theory and realizing I understand some physics equations)
2. Find other people who are also interested in your classes
For example, this year in radiations class, i would have given up on being on track with the classes if my friend wasn't a master in radiations. They always answer my curiosity questions, and give me fun facts, so it helps me be interested in it. Also, other people's enthusiasm about a course is going to make you so much more excited about it.
3. Ask questions to your teachers.
I promise it won't be dumb. And even if it is, i promise it won't be in the top 10 dumbest questions they ever had to answer in their career.
My rad prof said in our first class that a master's degree student had once asked her what is a photon, and she answered bc there is no shame. (he was a comp sci undergrad, so he genuinely didn't know) That helped me feel more at ease asking her questions tbh, bc now i feel like every question is valid.
4. Don't worry if you are unsure about your future.
Everyone is. The only ppl that aren't unsure are the Rory Gilmore's of this world that had the same dream for so long that they don't even know if it's still their dream or not.
You're still changing, literally during my first year i had two different mental breakdowns thinking I chose the wrong degree. Which was just the stress and uncertainty speaking, bc im still very much enjoying my degree lol. (and the funniest bit, one of those mental breakdowns was me thinking i wanted to switch for computer science, but now i think that wouldn't do it for me. I changed my interests so much since then)
5. Make time for friends.
Both your "old" friends and trying to meet new ones. It will help you not to go insane during exams period lol. Also, try to talk to students from the years above you, they'll have so much advice to give you (you just have to say you're a newbie in uni, and they'll literally start rambling about their 1st year mistakes, at least that's what me and my friends do with the new kids lol)

I am tipsy rn, but I am just hooked on the clone wings au I've seen <3
Jango himself didn't have wings, maybe it skipped a generation
So when he sees the clones are born with them, he totally doesn't cry in his quarters in joy. Boba has wings, and Jango teaches what he can about wing care to the clones as much as he can
No matter what they try, the Kaminoans can't get rid of whatever is causing the wings to be formed, only managing to net a few clones over the years to be born without them
- said wingless clones are snapped up by Alpha-17, who makes sure they don't end up as test subjects or worse. He's missing a wing himself due to a longneck, so they don't bother fighting against the admittedly terrifying clone. Most of them become aquatic soldiers or various troops where wings would be a detriment
-- a lot of the wingless feel left out, but whenever they're around other clones for missions/downtime, they're usually given the honor to help care for the wings, and it's always a battle to see who can get one of them before their other brothers (bc no clone would ever hate another, I don't care what BB says >:(
The armor for the wings was not factored in, so the first Gen cobble together a prototype that is soon refined once it's proven they need the extra protection
the Jedi don't really know what to make of it at first, but the wings don't seem to impede their fighting abilities, so it's just brushed off
in fact, the wings help save more lives (bc a lot of clones die by falling like wtf)
it's considered a right of passage to be invited to help tend to each other's wings in their downtime
Those that are split from their batchmates/lose their squads have their feathers usually matted and tangled until they integrate and find someone they trust, and if they haven't, a medic will step in and force them to be tended to
Kix personally has the highest number of troopers he's had to sedate for wing care, and is quite pleased with himself
When Marshal Commander Cody haphazardly curls a wing around Obi-Wan during a briefing one day, the news spreads within the GAR by the end of the rotation (said commander is embarrassed, and Obi-Wan has to fight to urge to ask him to do it again)
It becomes a game to see who can do the same with their Jetti without their noticing, but the Jedi already know about this "game" and place their own bets on which of their troopers manage

but in terms of canon characters i don't have any really big ships that are canon , i have preferred ships that i have for them even though i don't write them necessarily , but the others would be ( sage/yoru w/galaxythixf , sage/reyna , sage/viper , neon/fade , soraka/voli w/valhiir , soraka/therapy , soraka/sett , soraka/pantheon , lux/jinx , lux/caitlyn w/ferinehuntress , soraka/vayne , uhh ... i just be rattling this shit off give me a moment ... viktor/jayce , mc/eiji w/solivcgant , mc/seven , ethan/therapy , chara/therapy ... sage/jett ) although the list isn't extensive , and doesn't cover everything : i think chemistry is the most important in a ship and if two characters have it then i'm always gonna consider them an otp LMAO !
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
it very much depends on where those muses are in life ; generally for younger muses i don't really believe or like age gaps more than 2 - 3 years , esp with muses that are ... at the very least below the age of 20 , but i base it very much off what i think and find comfortable in relationships in my life . like , katarina is around 28? 29 and one of her main ships is around 39 , but i find that more appropriate since they're both well and full adults .

i think a lot of it borders on suggestive when you're mentioning arousal , but any touching of things that necessarily would be covered by underwear is enough to call it nsfw in my book .

music: music has been a pretty integral part of my life for the longest time, starting with "musical early childhood education" ("musikalische Früherziehung") at around maybe 2-3 yo or so, then Glockenspiel lessons (moreso just learning the very basic fundamentals of music), then keyboard lessons from like 4-7 yo, piano lessons since then (10 years now, and I'm really happy with my progress, essentially being at the highest skill level non-professionals can normally achieve), organ lessons since maybe 2018/2019 and I even played my first full church service last sunday (ignore the fact that I'm pretty much a satanist, the music sounds nice if you don't read the text and no one sees you anyway, so might as well be on your phone during the sermon parts plus I'm getting paid. also a several meters tall instrument made of metal/wood pipes with at the very least 3 sets of keys that towers over an already spacious building is metal af), also I've been singing in my schools choir for the past ~7 years, picked up guitar by myself in nov 2022 and since a Kanonenfieber show last nov my growls finally work properly.
Apart from that I love listening to music, mainly Black Metal, but I've also come to enjoy stuff like OSDM, Dungeon Synth, Doom and Noise. I haven't been able to go to many concerts (essentially only one festival, one Kanonenfieber show and one Bell Witch show), but I loved those I could go to. Also I'm currently planning to start a (rn only cover) band with a few friends/friends of friends to start playing some metal and that seems to be going somewhere for once
LotR: I read the trilogy in like 6th grade and even tho I haven't read that much else Tolkien (only The Children of Huin and The Fall of Gondolin I believe, plus I've been on-and-off with a copy of The Hobbit for like half a year) it has become somewhat of a comfort series, which also probably explains how much I adore all the high fantasy Dungeon Synth
my mum being supportive: I came out to her last june and since then she stopped saying "my [son/daughter]" instead just referring to me as her 'child' and it just feels really good that she's making an active effort to support me, no doubts or stupid questions. Additionally she's been semi-jokingly using 'es' (i.e. the German it/its, since there really is no equivalent of they/them) when referring to me while talking to me or my sister, which still kinda fits, considering it may make me sound like a goblin or sth, but I spend most of my freetime in my basement room with the posture of a shrimp anyway
havin a queer friend irl: technically I have several queer friends, but they align with my own identity a lot (nb/pan/possibly ace), plus that in general we're really close means that I can talk to them about most stuff, be it dysphoria, mental health or just venting
animanga: I have no clue why specifically these forms of media, but eh. my first anime was Noragami in early 2021, my first manga Jujutsu Kaisen in summer the same year, currently I tend to read more manga than I watch anime and my physical collection of manga stands at a good 214 volumes right now (counting omnibuses as one volume). bl also kinda helped me realise that I'm not straight, so that's a win in my book. currently infatuated with the Dungeon Meshi anime.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff?
Oof. Um? Idk that I care so much about the source material as I do about the characters. I can make any source material work if I’m obsessed enough.
That being said, I like the vaguer boundaries (for lack of a better word) around movies and comics. There’s a lot more room to play with a characters internal life and thoughts bc those things aren’t as clear in a more visual medium like a movie or comic. Shaping that for an existing character is probably the closest I’ll ever get to writing an OC.
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
You know I’m going to say Loki bc you got me hooked in the show. And Mobius, too. I think they’re sort of inverse arcs. Loki finds his purpose and Mobius loses his, and it’s so well-done and tragic and fascinating.
Also, I read a veritable fuckton of books and I know I’ve read some amazing character arcs in those but they tend to blur together. The one that sticks out to me rn is Evemer in A Touch of Gold and Iron bc it’s a FANTASTIC representation of “enemies” to “I worship you, I would die for you, use me like an attack dog” and I know you know how much I love that.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of your choice).
(1) More deeply considered kink scenes. This applies to most fandoms I’m a part of, I think. You and I have talked about this a lot. I just… I get tired of reading kink relationships that are just some iteration of a submissive wet hole versus dominant fuck machine. Like yeah, okay, I read smut for the smut but also the relationship. Call me a romantic or whatever, I guess.
(2) Eddie grappling with the symbiote’s need to eat brains. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I feel like it gets left out of fic a lot. For obvious reasons, probably. If you’re writing about a guy getting dicked down by his alien goo parasite maybe you don’t want to deal with the in-world consequences of all that entails. But I think it’s really rich soil to dig through and I wish more fics did it.
(3) Smut scenes that aren’t just penetrative sex. Not every likes or wants penetrative sex. Or has penetrative sex every time they fuck. What can I say? I like a variety.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
That I would die for? Yeesh. I think Peter is a lot angrier than people let him be or give him credit for. Wade enjoys his job and would be sad (not to mention a massive fucking nuisance) if he gave it up. The body horror of both Venom and Deadpool are an integral part of their characters. (Damn. I should have put that in my above answer.)
But would I die for those? Maybe the body horror one. You know how much I love body horror.
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

🔥 + those new star wars shows
i feel like it's not an unpopular opinion that disney star wars is like, bad, and we're very over saturated with sw content rn. but let's go one by one for disney era sw shows, yeah?
rebels (2014-2018): okay i love rebels. nuthin to say here. it's not perfect but overall, a good fun time. good fun characters. love it.
forces of destiny (2017-2018): meh. the animation is meh, but i liked most of the padme ones, and i liked the ones where the girls from different franchises interact, like leia and sabine and jyn. i like the concept, but overall was underwhelmed. but for what it was it's fine.
resistance (2018-2020): i don't really have an opinion on resistance. i watched a few episodes when it first came out but it didn't really pull me in. so i'm neutral on it, but it's sequel era so auto hate i guess. but not really. it's fine.
galaxy of adventures (2018-2020): best animation in star wars. oh and it's narrated by dante basco? incredible. love it.
the mandalorian (2019-present): hate. i liked the first season cuz i liked baby yoda (he's cute!), and i liked pedro pascal becoming daddy™, but then season 2 was just bad. the best part was them getting temuera morrison back as boba fett, but we all know how that turned out. and season 3 was simply intolerable. even characters i used to sort of like i now hate with a firey passion. like bo katan?? hate her. why is she so young?? and here's the real unpopular opinion, i HATE baby yoda. like he's not even cute to me anymore i literally just hate him with the passion of a thousand firey suns. i think it's the combo of over saturation plus the absolute STUPIDNESS that was his "arc" in the book of boba fett, but kill that little green old man with fiiiiiire 🔥🔥🔥. i didn't even care about the order 66 stuff with him, it was just so stupid. the best part was my boy kelleran beq. but i do respect the hell out of pedro pascal for being like, the highest paid voice actor in hollywood. like he's barely in the suit anymore but literally get that bread 🤑🤑🤑
jedi temple challenge (2020): i cannot belieeeeeeeeeve that when i look up "star wars shows" wikipedia has every fucking show listed EXCEPT jedi temple challenge. THE AUDACITY. THE DISRESPECT. jedi temple challenge is a star wars game show based on game shows like "legends of the hidden temple" from back in the day, and it's an absolute delight. AND it brought ahmed best (jar jar binks) back into star wars. and he did such a good job and you can tell he had such a fun time doing it. kelleran beq my absolute BELOVED. y'all think you love him but none of you love him like i do. also SAM WITWER??! frank oz?? zakai "the dark side is a little bitch" you absolute fucking legend? incredible, no notes. i wish there were a thousand seasons.
the bad batch (2021-present): hate. #unwhitewashthebadbatch. also, it's boring. i just don't care.

the book of boba fett (2021-2022): HATE. IT'S JUST SOOOOOOOO BAD. HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO MY BOY????? temuera morrison deserved sooooooooooo much better. and don't even TALK to me about what they've done to my son, luke jskywalker. fake luke skywalker. jake skywalker. terrible. hate hate hate.
obi wan kenobi (2022): my beloved. has done nothing wrong in their life, i know this and i love them. (except for what they've done to my boy the grand inquisitor. and fifth brother. but we don't talk about that.) genuinely so surprised that it was as good as it was, seeing the state of star wars live action before it. but i've never been so grateful that dave felony does not care about obi wan as a character, and therefore does not feel the need to rub his greedy little hands all over him. deborah chow did such a good job protecting the integrity of the characters imo. i would have been happier if it was just sad man alone in the desert, hallucinating anakin and house hunting with force ghost qui gon, but i've since gotten over that. i loved baby leia and the organas. also i don't think this is an unpopular opinion but KATHLEEN KENNEDY IS A LITTLE BITCH FOR CANCELLING S2 BUT GREENLIGHTING A REY MOVIE THAT NO ONE WANTS. ESPECIALLY when ewan/hayden/jimmy were all on board. she's number one on my hit list tbh. but if that was all we had it was enough. better to die a hero than live long enough to see yourself become a villain, and all that.
andor (2022-present): rogue one is the best thing that star wars has ever done imo, and andor is andor: a rogue one story, so it's great. but i fucking hate polldark cereal man. he's so fucking annoying. every time he is on screen i am throwing things at my tv. i don't even know his name, sibil, maybe? anyway, he's fucking stupid. taking away valuable screen time from my beloveds and for what? and he's just so boring. he's not even an interesting fascist like dedra (who i really only like because of the actress's incredible performance in "under the banner of heaven"). but anyway he's the worst. unpopular opinion is that mon mothma is sooo valid for selling her daughter to satan for one corn chip. go off queen.
tales of the jedi (2022-present): stupid. you can't even have continuity in your own canon? get it together dave, christ alive. i wanted to like it but, meh. i did like the rex, ahsoka, anakin one, because it's peak anakinnuttery and he's literally so insane i love it.
young jedi adventures (2023-present): adorable. you're killing it babies. high republic is fun. all the gold drip is fun. and the little riyo chuchi pantoran with the purple lightsaber is adorable. the eps are whatever, but it's literally made for 3 year olds, so it's great.
ahsoka (2023): it's so terrible i can't even speak. my expectations were low but man they wow'd me with how bad it was. first bitchy thing: ewan's new wife as hera was even more terrible than i was expecting. i can't think of a single thing i liked, except sabine a little, but that is for lesbian reasons and i cannot be held accountable for that. the rampant love for shin is soooooooo transparent. like i don't even dislike her, i like her just fine, but come on. and cgi hayden?? are you kidding me?? he looked SOOOOOOOO terrible are y'all for real?? i knew it was gonna be bad but damn. biggest takeaway was that whoever was in charge of the sound editing should be SHOT. it was so bad and sooooooo distracting. it took me right out.
huh. i guess overall i don't hate as many as i thought. but still, the ones i hate i really hate, and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many. i'd sell them all to satan (except kenobi) for one corn chip.

1. the lymond chronicles by dorothy dunnett. let’s get the enfant terrible out of the way. i love historical adventure stories and have a fictional crush on the mc of proportions embarrassing at my respectable old age. a gallant renaissance courtier, a cunning swashbuckler, a brilliant schemer, a queer icon, a tortured soul, a secret agent extraordinaire “whose tongue is as sharp as his rapier”, the Man, the Myth, the Legend - lymond has it all. if only i could condone the narrative tomfoolery of the last two installments, the lemon saga would’ve become my favorite series of all time. still gotta put it in the first spot bc rn i’m biased - i’m re-reading it with my bestie and hell’s own apollo is very much there, inside my mind💖
2. the secret history by donna tartt is the book that established dark academia - a lucrative subgenre of mediocre campus novels trying to imitate tsh written by authors who unfortunately don’t understand what makes it iconic. the secret special ingredient being some substance under the aesthetics and - how do i put it without sounding like a snob - literary value. this is not the main reason why i love it though, not the thing that made me binge it overnight several years ago which was how i found my way back into reading after uni drained me of any desire to do it - those were the characters. i think they’re fun and relatable in terms of qualities which i’m not necessarily proud of but which are nevertheless an integral part of my personality - such as, for example, being a snob.
3. all for the game by nora sakavic is probably the most unique book i have ever read - and that’s saying something bc i read over one hundred per year. do i dare to attempt to explain what it is about in a concise manner? no, i don’t think so. i’ll just say i love it bc it showed me what can be achieved if the author isn’t constrained by arbitrary rules of storytelling or social conventions or judgements of “good taste”, bc it inspired me to actively participate in an online fandom for the first time and to build a community of tumblr mutuals (which tbh was probably the only thing that helped me stay sane throughout 2020), bc it made so many memories and experiences click into place and made me realize i’m aroace and queer. i’m glad i discovered it at the right time in my life and i genuinely believe it’s in its rightful place next to the more “highbrow” books on this list.
4. harry potter. unlike many fans i read hp relatively late in my teens and so i don’t think i could say i’d grown up with it or that it had been an important part of my childhood. nevertheless when i read this series it captured my heart and soul and it never lost its charm on each subsequent re-read. now jkr is being rightfully condemned and the story itself viewed with increasing criticism, but still i can’t agree with people who claim it was never good in the first place. something is very special about hp, something contemporary authors apparently can’t recreate or another middle grade or ya fantasy would’ve overshadowed it by now. i used to think this special thing can’t be tainted by the discourse but to tell the truth now i’m not so certain anymore. maybe i’m just becoming more and more disillusioned with the idea of escaping from real life problems into magical fictional worlds... watch starkid’s a very potter musical on youtube if you haven’t already btw.
5. confusion by stefan zweig is a novella written in the 1920s and it follows a relationship between a young university student and his mysterious english professor who has a dark secret. this is probably (and unfortunately) the least famous book on this list and so i have made it my mission to recommend it to people as often as possible. zweig is a wonderful writer who focuses on deep dives into the characters’ psyche and interpersonal relationships that can’t be easily defined or put into boxes. i can’t really explain why this obscure short story is in my top 5 favorite books of all time without going into spoilers but i will say that i myself fully understood why it’s so important to me only after i realized i’m aroace. it doesn’t have any aroace characters - that would’ve been too galaxybrain for the time period - but the questions the protag grapples with in the story are in my opinion some quintessential aspec questions which i sadly haven’t seen explored in any aspec rep book i’ve read so far.
6. eugene onegin by alexander pushkin. despite its immense fame and popularity in russia and all the lands it colonized, some western readers might not be familiar with this classic - i assume because it’s written in verse and so even the best translator wouldn’t be able to render this text in all its glory. i have re-read onegin countless times, far more often than any other book on this list, and each time it presented itself from a new angle: as a 12yo i thought it was a failed love story, as a 20yo i thought it was a failed friendship story and now, that i’m the same age as onegin at the end of the book, my conclusion is it’s about how some people just can’t be happy. how very byronic lol
7. a song of ice and fire by george rr martin. i used to believe this is the superior adult fantasy series bc of its complex and compelling characters - but that doesn’t seem right bc many authors offer good character work. what actually sets asoiaf apart imo is what i call “complex morality” - this is basically grey morality except as applied to the world instead of, as it commonly is, to the characters. a “morally grey character” is, especially today, a pretty uninspired narrative tool if they exist in a world where good and evil are real and absolute categories. despite the fact that many readers (but mostly, i think, the show viewers) have divided the asoiaf cast into the “good” ones, the “bad” ones and the “redeemable” ones (ugh), i believe martin succeeded in creating a world where each character will inevitably end up on the crossroads between a bad action and a worse one and their choice will be a juicy insight into the conditio humana. for some reason i like when the fiction i read for escapism reflects my cynical pessimist outlook🤷♂️
8. the three musketeers by alexandre dumas. the og historical swashbuckling adventure story, the first book (series) i was ever obsessed with. can’t say much about this one bc i read it when i was 12 and haven’t re-read it since, my love for it being kept alive throughout the years by the soviet tv adaptation. i really want to re-read it soon but also i’m nervous that it won’t live up to my childhood memories. still had to put it on the list bc in many aspects it was foundational to my tastes in media and fiction.
9. the talented mr ripley by patricia highsmith. before the secret history dethroned it by offering similar themes in a more attractive package, this used to be my favorite book. no one can write a queercoded sociopath like highsmith. i remember finishing the book, then starting it again immediately bc i was just fascinated by ripley’s mind, by how subtle the writing was and how it managed to convey a sense of constant anxiety and tension. i think tom ripley is an important figure in the fictional serial killer canon and deserves more attention from fans of guys like hannibal lecter and joe goldberg. hopefully the upcoming mini-series will do him justice - as in “faithfully depict and popularize his story”. real justice being done to him is the last thing ripley wants lol
10. a little life by hanya yanagihara. a very important novel whose broad thematic range is overshadowed by the notoriety it gets in the online book community bc of its heavy subject matter. this book wants you to witness the darkest moments of one man’s life, follow him on this tragic journey and see how the society that means to help often ends up harming further bc it fails to acknowledge many uncomfortable truths about individual mental health. honestly i could spend hours talking about all the subversive and taboo topics this book explores and why it’s important and why it’s bad that we don’t engage with them more often, but if i had to pick one it would be the idea that some of us will only get a little life to enjoy and that is okay and our experience is still worth recounting and witnessing, it’s still valuable and liberating even if it doesn’t fit into the common understanding of “happiness” which anyway is nothing but a construct that can seem misleading and oppressive depending on one’s experiences. ngl i couldn’t in good conscience “recommend” this book to anyone, as in “suggest they read it”, but i think i personally will revisit it at different stages in my life bc i’m sure it will reveal new depths. and also bc, as you should’ve gathered from this list, i like pain😅😬
other books i consider my all time favorites that didn’t make the list: the hunchback of notre dame, wuthering heights, phantom by susan kay, perfume: the story of a murderer, gentlemen and players by joanne harris, howl’s moving castle, captive prince, the grandmaster of demonic cultivation (mo dao zu shi), the history boys, crime and punishment

So, I have a question re: "if one alter believes it you all do." We have an alter who fully believes we're an endogenic system. He's the only one of us who does and everybody else fully realizes we're traumagenic and that he's absolutely wrong. This seems to directly contradict the post - and we're not trying to say you're wrong, we're just confused.
For a little context, he was a host at a time when we joined an endo-friendly server and were convinced we were endo before realizing we were traumagenic. Again though, even including now-dormant alters, he's the only one with this belief. -Sega
I’m going to use an example from our own system to help describe this:
Rice, back when we were in college, believed she was the “core” and that we were “fully integrated” and that she was a singlet. All of us disagreed with her, but she was the host and had high dissociative barriers. And, for a long while, she considered herself a singlet.
We knew we weren’t a singlet! But she believed it. And what the post was getting at was “if one alter believes it, then there is a part of YOU who believes it, and you should work that out, rather than just locking it away forever.”
So, when we heard Rice saying we were a singlet, deep down, it was because we (as a collective individual) were in denial about being a system. Back then, we didn’t consciously know that was the reason - tbh we kinda just rolled our eyes at Rice and moved on - but in the end, there were only two options for us.
Option one (which is what we see a LOT in the system community rn) is “lock the alter away from the public.” In my example, that would be like “we’re going to stop our host from fronting because she believes something that’s harmful for our system.” Yeah. That sounds… smart. /s
Option two, and what we went with, was working through the issue. We talked with Rice, our friends, and online spaces. We worked through it! Because it’s OUR problem - not just her issue.
In your case, it seems you’ve already identified where their individual belief came from. But now, it’s time to work out why YOU (as a collective) hold that belief: what about the belief of being Endogenic is something you’d want/have? (Not dinging that alter in the slightest with that comment; many traumagenic systems and many alters have this belief, and I struggled with it some in our system too.) Most systems I’ve who struggled with this who worked through it realized that that alter usually believed it because they couldn’t face the trauma they had experienced. Which… understandable.
My suggestion is to slowly work on the understanding that you are all parts of one identity, and that one individual (at least to a small degree) wishes you were endogenic (aka, wishes you weren’t traumatized). Then, slowly, work through the trauma you did experience, and help that alter come to terms with it. Mind you, it took us about… 3 years, I think, with Rice? And definitely a lot of bumps in the road. It won’t be easy - but it’s the next step in healing.
(Side note: please, I always suggest working through those traumas with a therapist or when you are in a stable position, mentally. Do not do trauma work when struggling!)

jessica lea mayfield - make my head sing : my random country/grunge sneak, she's been a super obscure fave of mine for many years and this album just kinda hit recently with the whole resurgent trauma energy
lucy dacus - home video : to be honest i haven't been STREAMING this that much, but instead i've literally been singing the songs in my day-to-day life. partner in crime, brando, christine, please stay... literally integral to my functioning
ethel cain - preacher's daughter : i took this off rotation for a few months to avoid getting sick of it bc truthfully i could just stream it on loop forever. been really obsessed with thoroughfare and strangers as of late

alvvays - blue rev : god the sleeper classic of all time for me. the way i didn't care about it for like several months after hearing it and now it's basically a mainstay. such is the power of putting bored in bristol on your album

taylor swift - midnights : ok so i know this is gonna be the like "why is this on here" one but like hear me out. see above that i was revisiting stuff a year after it came out, and also this was like The First Thing Announced When I Got Home. tbh my horrible hot take is that this is kind of a comfort album for me now?? it reminds me of oct '22 when i felt like for once in my fucking life things were gonna be ok. it's not her best but what can you do
olivia rodrigo - guts : this is like a single hair away from fully confirmed as my aoty this year and i hate it bc i look so basic but also consider: it is just that good to me
kero kero bonito - time n place : dear future self and swimming were big moments for me during this time in 2018, and my life is kinda eerily lining up with 2018 again so hearing a song called "dear future self" that reminds me of that time is a lot to process
ariana grande - thank u, next : random ass pick i know, but idk! it's her best, it's very subtly a concept album and it's unironically thematically coherent if you're terminally online enough to read into it thoroughly. also fake smile, bad idea, bloodline, in my head, etc. just slap sorry
pearly drops - a little disaster : thank you kabob for giving me the push to give this a shot. after grimes went full unsupportable, i kinda have been itching to fill the niche she used to fill vocally, and honestly this fits? it's weirdly glacial and funny and deadpan kinda it's fun i like this album a lot
lamp - at komoyo street : i'm sorry but one of the best album covers of all time and the music lives up to the hype

Yup! You got it! Wendy has a more standard kpop voice, and like Taeyeon she has the range that sm likes (*though the caveat I think is that Taeyeon has a really strong middle range that the Korean gp loves) so just on top of being a technically proficient singer, she gets more lines. The big tell is that Seulgi is a stronger TECHNICAL singer than Irene-but Seulgi gets very specific parts in red velvet songs similar to Jessica-but Irene in general gets more lines/or full versus versus the "umph" parts. And a good example of technical skill not really mattering all that much after having one or two proficient singers is that Joy and Irene are evenly matched, just that Irene simultaneously has the Kpop visual thing/A brighter tone-so who gets more lines?
It's why kpop fans, but people in general look very silly doing those vocal rankings to anyone that has ACTUAL history doing music, or using their vocal/musical training to essentially shit on people lol. It absolutely doesn't matter that so and so is breathey as long as they get the note out-its about if the SOUND is nice to you. And even then that's so subjective. It's like when people get at Rose damaging her voice. She's just using more air-and she sings, like in a group of FOUR ppl, seconds to maybe 1 minute of a 3/4 minute song. That's a perfectly fine way for her to sing lol and that "nasally" sound is most likely on PURPOSE. Yg isnt making her damage her voice lol. (A big way to tell if someone knows what they're talking about is vocal nodules-Mariah Carey/Whiteny Houstan/Adele ect have all had them-its not a sign of poor singing-most people have them lol. It's a sign if vocal fold use-and singers just use them more- Mariah Carey kept hers for years because she thought it made her sing better). It's all about vocal tone/affect-and in pop music especially it seems like such a silly thing to fight Abt when people are trained/guided/vocal souped to sound as similarly to each other as possible.
omg yes i agree, some popular singers dont sound like that plain wendy/etc sound but theyre not worse than her/those plain types just bc they sound unique. do you think there is still a place for the vocal rankings that go really into the study of vocals as an instrument, e.g. finding ppls breaks and whether they can support different registers? i dont know enough about that theory but i think that is still interesting on the technical side, altho maybe that style of ranking is biased towards like "classically" singing in a specific way.
im watching the universe behind rn (fortuitous bc that song has been in my head for days haha), and i can definitely see that even more than usual theyre cutting and jumping around the recording sessions with different people - seems they had trouble getting the right vocal parts with this song. and also the part where doyoung flubs the high note and he says smth like "did you guys do this to everyone else too" and the pd says "yeah its been like this all day." its so fascinating, the voices of other people are basically another instrument that is co-played by the vocalist (if their musicality is appreciated by the pd) and the pd. again... im still high lol... but i feel like u can see with dy/hc they have ideas in terms of musicality/interpreting a phrase but ultimately are mostly accepting and quickly integrating pd feedback for the final tracks. and then theres ppl like yangyang jaemin shotaro who shouldnt even bother bringing in a pencil to take personal notes bc the pd is completely controlling their vocals (unless theyre like me and forget feedback lol but that would be an especially sorry commentary on their vocal skills). im gonna appreciate more those soloists who try their hands at writing/composing etc and are on smaller labels, yes the production cant always be so slick and doesnt go thru as many ppl before it goes out but i kind of like that.
do you have any commentary on how seventeen and stray kidz "self produce" songs? how much of that is actually self-production? and it has obviously been a unique niche and successful choice for sm to be the least authentic of its peers in terms of letting idols have basically any input in recording, but why do you think they went in that direction/have been strict about it with some (girl) groups and more lenient about letting other (boy) groups write their own stuff?
edit it seems like mark has the most ideas out of all of them but in this instance it doesnt seem like pd kept most of em! jeno has a few ideas too and seems to be good at implementing feedback but then he says "idk how the mix will sound but i wish i could have done something more" ... plus dy saying "thank god i get to do something this time" what do they MEAN???!!! also why is favorite playing in the bg at some point
edit 2 there are points at the end of that vid where doyoung straight up misses 2 of the chorus melodies like it looks like its his first or second time hearing the song ever and its while hes already in the production booth. he is super facile with the song all the other moments in that video except for that moment and thats so curious to me. i guess i assume ppl walk around listening to their song before they record it like in drag race LOLLL

Various default and custom stuff
I’ve tweaked some things, mostly for personal use, lately and in the end decided to post them in case someone else might be interested.
Defaults:
BV Hotel Chair - replaced with Mutske’s mesh that actually matches with loveseat, it’s not the same in shape but i like matchiness way more than it’s original shape, there’s also a sofa in that link that you might want to have as addon, you can have a chair too but if you want this as default it doesn’t make sense. SFS/MF
FT Nectar Bar - simple mesh edit to remove those posts, based on a centered drawer mesh by Amaryll. SFS/MF
FT The Stacks - made mesh smaller so it might actually fit on some surfaces instead of being too big all the time. SFS/MF
FT Sewing Machne - i’ve had this idea for a while, like to have machine as a separate thing not stuck with the same table, if it was more modern it probably would’ve been easier to separate it, but here in order to have those bits that make it operate i had to leave more stuff than i would’ve liked, couldn’t really figure out a way to remove more metal but keep integrity of the structure (if anyone has any ideas i’m more than willing to improve this one) so as a result i think they look good enough when used with two tile tables, but there’s an issue with this stripe going trough the table if you place it like i did, and if you would keep it at the corner of the table then those metal parts will most likely clip into table legs. Anyway as of rn i think of those metal legs as some special support so the table won’t break and ignoring the clipping of the stripe :D SFS/MF

Mutske’s Studious Cabinet - originally from here, made to match this repositoried Studious Bookcase, as i personally removed defaults for it in my game and only later noticed this cabinet not matching. SFS/MF
Mutske’s Plant Addons - i’ve notcied there were a couple of weird shiny plants in set 1 and set 2 so i’ve fixed them, here’s a pic of the problem (palm only had a minor shine on the edge of the pot not really visible on screenshot, but it still bugged me) You still need to have those sets first and then override with fixed meshes. I can also recommend to get set 3, nothing’s wrong with it, it’s just very nice! SFS/MF
Simaddict99′s Changetables - originally they were repositoried to changetable, now they’re repositoried to a crib. I’ve removed the shelf from the GL one cos i didn’t liked it and i wasn’t planning on posting this originally so there’s only one version. Links to original Atomic and Luxury Nursery sets.

59 but not all of them are written works, a handful are simple manips or aesthetics posted individually

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Four technically. There’s The 100, Agent Carter, Captain America the First Avenger, and Marvel’s Avengers.

Yes! I try to respond to each and every comment asap. but on certain stories I try to respond when I plan on updating the next chapter either soon or the following day, just to give the readers and commenters a head’s up. Other times I have no idea what to say in response to not sound like a robot so it takes a while to think of something lol
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Ooohh That would definitely be Project New Generation. I am suppose to make a series to rectify the angst and horror and heartbreak of this story but I don’t know if I will anytime soon😭 If any of my followers have not read this it is not for the faint of heart and there are many TW’s in this.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I have written a few crossovers but in moderately similar fandoms. The its between either Agent Carter/SHIELD Crossover or Agent Carter/ Avengers crossover.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yes, and it hurts every time. But lately I have been standing up for myself and being politely rude and telling the haters off. There’s no reason for the BS
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Sometimes, but most often only if requested or challenged to do so. Its just basic smut, nothing too kinky (I think I wrote breeding kink once? But it was mild and requested). I honestly hate writing explicit smut, it makes me uncomfortable. As someone who (TMI btw) Has no sexual feelings for people in general and has no experience whatsoever in the department, I don’t like writing smut. I can gloss over the topic but getting into details is not something I like to do at all.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
There was a app that copped fics and mimicked everything on the website and took many writers stores for profit. A mutual had informed me several of my stories were on that app. I have no idea if it is still happening or not
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don’t believe so
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes and it was rather fun actually!
13. What is your all time favourite ship?
Tough question since I’m in between fandoms. But rn I have to say bellarke, but peggysous is a very close second!!
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Ouch. I am doing all that I can to finish all POSTED WIP’s, however those in drafts? That is another story...😐 I’ll do one for each fandom. so for Agent Carter I don’t think I will ever finish a story of Daniel's past before the show with him meeting Peggy during the war and having a romance being torn by war. like they meet and fall in love and she gets selected for the Super Soldier program and is pulled away. Not canon related at all I know, but it was a idea in the back of my head I started and now has been in drafts for a year🤷♀️
As for The 100 I started a fic of Spacekru being able to listen to Clarke’s radio calls each and every day but never being able to talk to her. Each chapter switches POV from space and Earth and I haven’t touched it in months🤦♀️
15. What are your writing strengths?
I have no idea... does having a million ideas count? If so than that lol But in all seriousness I have no clue. If I had to guess I would say character portrayal and maybe descriptions?
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Same as strength... too many ideas. Once I start a story I get supper excited and then have another idea and abandon the last one for a while. Its even worse if Its published bc then I absolutely have to finish that story😬 Also I am horrible at tenses. I mix them up a lot and its a horrible habit!!
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I love the idea and when I see another language being used in stories. My only concern as for reading and/or writing this is accuracy. I am fluent in one language and know very little of two others I’m studying(Well trying to study) So When writers do use other languages and integrate them into their works, I think it is best to be as accurate as possible and ask for help form a native speaker if possible.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
House of Anubis! Though I will never be able to publish them (And I honestly never would if I could) They’re all written in a notebook back when I was 11 and I let my friend have it to read and I have never seen her since I transferred schools, so.... yeah.
19. What’s your favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Uh.... That’s tough one. I would have to say for Agent Carter my favorite would be Agent Carter an AU Series. This story is on Hiatus for now until I can find time to write it again but its just a soft story and a slow burn Peggysous with baby Stephanie. Its heart melting and I love it. Granted it need to do a lot of revision and editing but it is my favorite for this fandom. For The 100 I’d have to say The Head and the Heart!
