It’s always fascinated her just how much a shovel sounds like a knife, the head of it cutting through the earth in thick slices. Peeling back layers of grass and roots and soil, like shaving off the skin and sinew of the planet. Waiting to see if it bleeds. Hell, the flattened edge is literally called a blade. Phaedra loves blades in all their forms, but right now she particularly loves the shovel. “Are you sure?” A deep voice pants from nearby. “I said I’d double the fee if you didn’t speak while we did this,” a second voice answers in a smoky alto. “You really want to talk yourself out of an extra five grand?” “It’s just—” “Keep. Digging.” The graveyard isn’t consecrated; it’s barely a graveyard at all, just a bare patch of freshly turned earth that avoids being labeled a mass grave by the thinnest of dirt walls left between the bodies. Dirt walls that immediately collapsed under the weight of the earth dumped on top, churning together flesh and bone and the bugs that feast on both. Most of the bodies aren’t even in coffins. But the body they’re digging for is.

He pulls his dagger out of the inside pocket of his jacket, not magic, but close enough to have Brad’s eyes widening in alarm. “Who the fuck gave you that?” “This old thing?” Loki starts to spin it gracefully around his fingers, enjoying the way Brad’s face pales as the blade flashes in the light. “It’s amazing what you can get away with when you convince someone to trust you.” “Mobius,” Brad whispers as he glances pleadingly toward the door. There’s no one there, no one to rescue him, and the empty window makes Loki’s heart race. Brad starts wiggling more earnestly against his restraints. “He’ll take it back. He’ll never trust you again. You’ll be right back where you started. In one of these cells with a collar on just like me.” “Perhaps.” Loki stops spinning the dagger and aims the point directly at Brad’s chest. “But it’s only you and me in here and what Mobius doesn’t know, won’t hurt him.” Loki sidles closer until he can set the edge of the blade along Brad’s movie star cheekbone. “It might hurt you, though.”

“It’s a cat.” “I can see that,” Ravonna says, somehow managing to look down at him despite the fact that she’s sitting at her desk and Mobius is standing in front of it. With a cat. “It’s cute, don’t you think?” he leans over the file box, tilting up one corner of the cardboard lid to peer inside at the bugger, and nearly ends up taking a fully clawed swipe to the face. “Missed, you bloodthirsty little beast,” Mobius chuckles. “I think the question is: Why do you have a cat?” “I found it.” OR Mobius adopts a cat that's been hanging around the bowels of the TVA. It just so happens to be Loki who is stuck in this form since none of his magic works there. Hijinks ensue.

One of my FAVOURITE ship dynamics to write or read in fics is when two characters are basically already a couple but they just haven’t realised it yet. They call each other up at like 3am, they cuddle, they sleep in the same bed, they fall asleep in each other’s arms, they hold hands, they practically live together, they talk about having a ~ special connection ~, they just haven’t actually kissed or done the do or talked about their feelings yet so they’re still both like “but I just don’t know if they like me in that way!!”

Thinking about demiromantic Loki.

The reason why he (presumably) never had anything "real" or serious with someone is because he needs that deep emotional connection before things get romantic, and he's... not great with emotions.
