Mat would be lying if he said he didn’t sneak glances at the announcers box after meeting you. You had been carrying a plate of food and two margaritas to your booth where your friends sat. Tito had made a joke about you seeming familiar then the pair heard your voice and knew, “Alright now, eat up because y’all are bumming me out.” Mat’s jaw slacked, “He’d known that the Islanders had gotten a new game announcer who was a girl but he wouldn’t have known it was you. You were effortlessly stunning, you had captivated the attention of every straight man in the bar. Mat had approached you as you sat at the bar, “I’m Mat, can I buy you a drink?”

You grinned and spoke, southern accent slipping out, “I’m Y/N, I mean Barzy after the way you played last game? You better buy me a drink. ‘Yknow how many hate comments my broadcast got?” Mat grinned as the bartender approached you, “Another Corona Light and whatever she’s having on me.” You grinned sheepishly, “I’m fucking with you. Where are you from?” You grinned, “I grew up in Toronto with my 3 younger brothers and moved to Alabama for college and been in New York for a few months now.” Mat grinned, “Well welcome to New York beautiful.” That was a year and a half ago. But like. Let's not forget about how many other possibilities there are. FRAGILE READER TEASER. It is mostly scenes of them and Zandik during the Akademiya. Except, current fragile reader is there in the background, forlornly watching their former self and Zandik's memories. With every new scene, fragile reader walks behind them, their gaze growing sadder and sadder the whole time, but they do not say a word. Until, it gets to a point where their former self starts to fade away, and in a panic they run after themselves, only to be met with nothingness. They have to accept that they'll no longer ever go back to their old self. (Kind of like Raiden's teaser)

DEMO. I imagine it's kind of like Furina's in a way. Because fragile reader's demo is all in their head/a dream. It begins deceptively happy at first, bright sunlight, joyful music, and smiles. They are finally doing the things they wanted, traveling to other nations, doing things that any normal person would do. Showing Foxttore the world too. The segments are there as well, bickering as usual while fragile reader looks on happily, interrupting them and pulling them to see all the sights the world has to offer. There are no worries, nothing bad happening at all... which makes it all the more unsettling. And at the end- fragile reader wakes up with a start, in complete and utter darkness. For it was all a dream.

COLLECTED MISCELLANY. Dainsleif introducing you, but surprise surprise! Dottore takes over instead to describe his beloved!! EBWDIEWB him explaining all of the silly moves you do with Foxttore and Puffttores... 😭 all with a straight tone. You guys are so married couple 😭

AND YESSSS BRO IM LOVING THEM BEING A 2 IN 1.... do NOT separate them!! In reality... Dottore doesn't really need your support skills (he's incredibly strong after all) but!! He doesn't have the heart when you're so excited to finally be near him... :( AND OH MY GOSH A SHARED IDLE WITH BOTH OF THEM... also consider: Dottore playfully ignoring reader by looking at his notes and clipboard... and you get all pouty until you snatch it out of his hands and he chuckles... ugh so many possibilities...

Immediately getting swapped out when you get too hurt 🥺 i was thinking that happens when you're about to take a killing hit but!! That's more accurate because he'd never let it reach that point! OKAY BUT ALSO REAL. I always thought it'd be cool if certain characters got special buffs based on their in-game relationship with others (like members of the Qixing, or the Knights, Lyney and Lynette etc) We love fragile reader doting on their fellow Fatuis and shitting on the Archons!! They can stay on life support for all you care!!

AND THE BATTLE INTERACTIONS- okay hear me out. For the 2 in 1 character, you get two different ultimates depending on who your active character is. If it's fragile reader, it starts with Dottore ready to do the job for you, but you valiantly put your arm out in front of him, because you wanna protect him!! He watches on with amusement as you assault the screen with tons of Puffttores :3 (they're unlimited) If Dottore is the one on the field, before he brutally annihilates the enemies, you give him a little kiss for good luck and jump around in the background cheering him on totally ignoring how those guys are completely dead!! :3

Okay and your death voice line too - "Zandik... save me..." <3

Hi 👋🏼 (writing prompts incoming I'll never use since well. I'm not a writer yet I have too much imagination for my own good)

Thanks a lot for this ask! A while ago, I got a similar one which got lost on the way into my drafts, so I'm glad I get a second chance to delve into my made up lore for my beloved elderly vampire lord 🦇 So very subjective and personal imaginary facts about vampire!Richard incoming:

Vampire!Richard is an everlasting part of my obsession over him, and 'I'm still alive' really changed my brain chemistry further more in that regard - before it was mostly Völkerball!vampire!Richard, who ruled over my darkest fantasies, drawing me ever deeper into his spell:

In this version, he is in my mind a slightly arrogant but so charming, self-assured young vampire, recklessly spirited and hardly containable, propelled by success, hungry for more - and he fundamentally sees mostly the positive aspects in his immortal existence, which he savors to the fullest extent.

However, at times he falls into melancholic phases, reminiscing about his mortal life and pondering what might have become of him had he not fallen into the clutches of eternal existence.

And yet, I have to admit, with the release of “I'm still alive”, my attention was definitely turned to the senior vampire lord, who immediately captivated me.

Here, Richard strikes me as an educated and worldly gentleman who has a sense of restlessness about him. He appears to have a great demeanor, is confident in himself and knows how charmingly he has to approach people to get what he wants, and yet he carries a certain melancholy with him, some thoughts and memories never seem to quite leave him and which hint at a troubled past. Although he is no longer subconsciously searching for the ultimate sense of immortal life like the young vampire!Richard, he still doesn't seem to be entirely at peace with his past and himself.

Since my brain won't shut up and I had wonderful support by @dandysnob in the quest of working out some thoughts on a background story for elderly vampire lord!Richard a possible origin story for him - of course based entirely subjective on our fantasies around the topic of vampires in general and Richard in this role speficically:

He was born in the late Middle Ages/early Renaissance (around the late fifteenth century) into a fairly well-off, but not overly wealthy family in the northern region of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation - so he had a good start in life, but had to make something of himself to succeed in life.

His ambitious and inquisitive character enabled him to make a name for himself as an intelligent and knowledgable scholar, particularly in the field of art, rare artifacts and, to a certain extent, music research (music was part of the 'septen artes liberales', a canon of seven subjects of study which was very important during which were very important in antiquity and the Middle Ages).

On one of his travels, which led him to the region of Transylvania in Romania due to research on architecture and paintings, something happened that would change Richard's life forever - something he wouldn't have expected at the age of about 50. On the way back from a day trip to the Prejmer fortified church (Church Fortified by Tartlau), his carriage was ambushed on the road through the forest - Richard himself doesn't know exactly what happened, but he woke up after what seemed like a long period of unconsciousness and hasn't been the same since. The changes were gradual - daylight began to blind him unbearably, he became more irritable, had an unbearable hunger, suddenly much sharper senses, and an inexplicable desire to go for the jugular of his fellow human beings.

The following years and decades were difficult for Richard. He distanced himself more and more from his fellow beings and began, through research, to slowly but surely discover what had happened to him. Humanity had less and less space in his life; the vampiric nature gave him a feeling of omnipotence and a hunger that made him completely ruthless towards human life. He deliberately embarked on many journeys to conceal the fact that he no longer aged and to disguise his consumption of humans as a source of sustenance. Changing names became commonplace, and at every university where he began as a scholar, he provided a new name. Thus, he traveled extensively throughout the world, learning more and more about the dark hidden world. Despite the immortality and invulnerability he now enjoyed, Richard was internally torn - on one hand, he managed to keep his private escapades under covers and presented himself outwardly as a distinguished scholar; on the other hand, he missed human life with its true emotions and loved ones deeply.

In the 19th century, he arrived in Victorian London and found his way into high society, moving in similar circles to Lord Byron and his companions. He had always sworn two things to himself: firstly, never to let serious feelings for anyone else arise, as it simply did not fit his lifestyle, and secondly, never to seek victims whose deaths would arouse suspicion - so no woman from the nobility or a similar standing. Until one day, he fell in love with a young woman who was just as enamored with ancient objects, art, and music as he was. Even though he knew this could have no future, he could not resist and courted her, with great success - until one night (she knew of his dark secret and yet loved him deeply) he lost control and accidentally weakened his beloved so much with his thirst for blood that she died in his arms. In her final breaths, she appealed to his humanity, urging him to see that life offers so much if only he allows it.

This experience tore him apart internally, yet it also gave him back the willpower he had lacked for over 300 years. Once again, he swore to leave behind the matter of feelings and emotional relationships, and to exercise more caution, moderation, and compassion - as much as possible as a vampire. After the experience in London with his beloved, he naturally had to leave that place and became restless once again. After further travels, he eventually landed in 21st century New York, where the cultural sector thrived with museums, theaters, film, and music, alongside a flourishing supernatural underworld. Outwardly, he was a successful art dealer, a generous patron of musicians and opera houses, and an expert for museums; secretly, he quickly became known as the most influential and powerful vampire in the city, one best not crossed - a rise akin to Scarface, yet far more sophisticated.

Here we are now - an accomplished man with a successful career, centuries of experience behind him, yet he's filled with melancholy, partial bitterness, constantly struggling with his fate. Whether he will ever find complete fulfillment and happiness again...

a possible continuation can be found in the second part.

arlecchino's constellation, "ignis purgatorius"

it means "cleansing" or "purifying fire", and this is interesting bc signora (then rosalyne) "sacrificed her [physical, mortal] body to become the embodiment of liquid fire herself." i'm not sure what being the "embodiment of liquid fire" really entails for signora but the crimson witch of flames and the pale flame (specifically the flower, "stainless bloom") artifact sets tell us that rosalyne was a living being who still looked human, but whose essence is made up of "liquid fire." that, and her newfound purpose is to aid the tsaritsa in "cleansing" the world of its darkness and corruption. (the shivada jade gemstone description is my tsarlyne roman empire but that's a ship for another day <3) idk why arlecchino's constellation is so conceptually similar to signora's whole "liquid fire," "cleanse the world in silent ice" schtick, but it is giving me brain rot, so, yes.

her splash art complements signora's so much it's driving us all insane!!!!! i saw a video leak of her boss gameplay and it seems her 'wings' (?) resemble spider legs more actually! she uses them to walk, among other things. i wonder where this is going! but ok, sure! bug yuri <3 spider x moth yuri <3

arlecchino's boss battle phase 1 ost

of all the leaked content it's her ost that did it for me. towards the end of the track (2:19-2:30) WE HEAR SIGNORA'S THEME. I KNOW HER THEME BY HEART CHRYSALIS SUSPIRII AND SALTATIO FAVILLAE ARE FOREVER IMPRINTED IN MY BRAIN. I KNOW HER THEME WHEN I HEAR IT. so why!?!? what is her theme doing in arlecchino's phase 1 ost, and what does this mean! T_T what was the reason!!!! why would they do this to me!!!!! i'm not ok!!! if there's one thing i know about genshin's music team and lore team it's that the smallest details are not put there without intention, so i'm curious about the inspiration for arlecchino's ost and why it includes elements of signora's theme. the boss battle ost's of childe and scaramouche don't have signora's theme at all, so what makes arlecchino's different?

for those less familiar with signora's theme (there is a fatui theme, which is recurrent throughout all their ost's, and then you have each harbinger's individual themes unique to them only.), you can hear it in chrysalis suspirii between 2:08-2:32 (imo the saddest, most beautifully haunting, most romantic version of it) and in saltatio favillae between 1:16-2:24 (imo the most dramatic, phantom-of-the-opera-esque version of it). there's just... so much grief and tragedy in her theme that i've never heard in the other harbingers'. elogia cinerosa also shares this leitmotif between 2:11-2:43, and it's this version of signora's theme that's heard in arlecchino's phase 1 ost.

someone on twitter made a very cool music analysis of this if anyone's interested!

anyway arlenora isn't beating the moth to flame allegations, they're not beating the secret affair allegations, nor the doomed lovers allegations.

now how do we feel about the fact that arlecchino has an agreement with the tsaritsa that lets her use the hydro gnosis for her own interests before surrendering it to the tsaritsa, and how do we feel about arlecchino possibly using the hydro gnosis to resurrect signora :D

1. Escanor ( I can't even put into words how much I loved his introduction. First showing us à tiny timid man then showing said tiny timid man turn into a huge buff monster that just casually beats up Melascula and Galand, the same two beasts that gave both Ban ad Meliodas a hard time. " I stand at the pinnacle of all races-" I MISS HIM SO MUCH HE WAS SUCH A BADASS )

2. King ( his entrance was so sudden and so dramatic, randomly spawning behind ban and stabbing him with chastiefol, grinning maliciously at his supposed companion, we were all shook as fuck lets be fr . Chefs kiss you will always be iconic

3. Ban ( the guards whispering about how they tried to execute him like 30 times, showing Ban pierced by metal rods and bound and chained up . The ominous music being harmonised with Ban's morbid humming showing us how much he doesn't give a fuck...perfect intro )

I'm tying Meli and Ban cause I loved their intros the same amount but for different reasons . Van for the more ominous and daunting reveal and Meliodas for the more wholesome and exciting one .

Meliodas ( I absolutely loved his reveal, him effortlessly beating up Twigo, Elisabeth staring in shock, him telling her he's not a member of the sds but their " CAPTAIN " go off my short king then him telling her to join him on his adventure, with the uplifting music and her smiling widely and nodding and following him on mama hawk.... oh fuck I am getting so nostalgic rn, back when it was hawk meli and eli, my roman empire frr .

5. Merlin ( incredibleeeee, I love it when she taught that rat vivian a lesson and when she pulled of her cloak it was giving " its britany bitch" sorry sorry sorrry . Plus with the hand I the waist, the flowy hair, the smug smile, she knew she was serving .

6. Gowther ( goes from random green haired background character to pink haired hottie, like no wonder hes the sin of lust-

But fr we all thought he was the armored giant so most of us were hella confused when he actually turned out to be the guy we saw in the beginning of the arc it was one hell of a twist and Nakaba is actually really good at doing this sort of thing with character reveals . )

Now I'm thinking about Pop Trolls and what happened with them... I love making it clear in my fic that what happened with the Bergens affected them, to various degrees.

Small ramble? I guess? It's not completely cohesive

In Hanahaki, they make peace with the Bergens, but most older Trolls are still anxious around them, and only Bridget and Gristle actually know where the village is and they never go in.

In Different Beat I'm at a bit of limbo, I can see them helping Bridget which would help King Gristle and it dominos into the Bergens being happy, but there won't be a positive relationship between the two species.

In Experiment Pop... well, Bergens are genuinely huge bad guys there, and there's no way the Pop Trolls would ever willingly interact with a Bergen. There's more trauma than just Trollstice, and it affects the newer generations too meaning they can't fully get away from what happened.

I have more aus that I haven't posted but Bergen relations are spotty or bad there too, so... I guess I just think they should have been affected more

So it's all different, which is the joy of aus, but something I don't like is how glossed over the trauma of Trollstice is in the movies and the series. How long were the Pop Trolls captured and eaten? The franchise doesn't give us a definitive answer, but from context clues I would say a decade or two at the bare minimum. The first movie starts with the story where it's shown the city is built around the Troll Tree. They wouldn't get such an established city in so little time, I refuse to believe that. Trollstice was so integral to them, that the adult Bergens in the beginning of the first movie seemed like they had had a Troll their entire lives. I refuse to believe the Bergens showed up between BroZone breaking up and Rosiepuff being eaten

I want to say that realistically, the Pop Trolls were captured for 80-130 years. It may seem like a lot, but it is what makes most sense to me (feel free to debate me on that and provide your own speculated timeline). The timeline just... doesn't work properly? We don't have any set points to look at, except that in the first movie the escape was 20 years ago, and between World Tour and Band Together a month has passed. This makes it so I can fuck around with the timeline as needed, but they could have given me more to work with. So the only timeline I am working with is that at the escape, the Pop Trolls had been stuck with the Bergens for nearly 130 years, the whole Music schism happened almost 200 years ago (and while they were with the Bergens there was a generation or two who didn't even know other Trolls existed), and the Strings were made around 250 years ago? But that also doesn't fully fit with how a society evolves, so might have been even longer between all of this?

Anyway... Back to the Pop Trolls and how the Bergens and Trollstice affected them

I love making jokes in my stories about how desensitized the Pop Trolls are to death and destruction of their home. I love writing other Trolls' reactions to that. It's fun and morbid at the same time. Like the other genres can be as pissy as they want about Pop's attempted takeover so many years ago, but in a cynical way, they got their karma... Other genres had places to be safe, evolve in their own time, no huge threats, but the Pop Trolls lost that, and you can't tell me that wasn't lost for a long time

I firmly believe the Pop Trolls don't have an actual cemetery, but rather a field of flowers planted in remembrance, a Memorial. Flowers planted for the ones lost, but no bodies buried with them. Just a flower representing who they were and what they meant to their loved ones (which brings in my headcanon that flowers and flower language is a big part of Pop Troll culture). It's just in the past 20 years they actually have had bodies to bury, and those are few and far between

...I had a point to this ramble, I think. I think Trollstice and Pop Troll history is my fictional roman empire, it has genuinely gone in and out of my head since the first movie. It just hits hard

Sonic Underground 10: Who do you think you are?

AKA: The required amnesia episode

I’m watching Sonic Underground in search of inspiration to finish a fic I’ve been writing forever. It’s a sad state of affairs. See the recap of the first three episodes here, if you're interested!

The plot (for want of a better word): While exploring an unfamiliar city, Sonia knocks her head and loses her memory! Can her brothers find her and remind her of her true self, or will she make a life with her new friend, the street urchin Raphie?

Raphie’s episode! I like Raphie, he’s very sweet.

Okay, so Aleena opens this episode implying that the triplets are going to realise they need to learn from each other. This is not going to happen. Sonia is going to learn about life on the streets from a bit character and make absolutely no connection between his life and Manic’s.

In today’s episode, Sonic is the responsible one. Sonia is flighty and more concerned with clothes and fashion.

This episode also mentions a palace. This is not Robotnik’s palace, nor is it in M/Robotropolis: it’s in Tashistahn, further confusing the question of whether Mobius (which Aleena rules) is a country, an empire, a – STOP ASKING QUESTIONS.

Tashistahn is definitely not Agrabah, by the way. Or the real world Constantinople. By the way.

Mobius is definitely not the Roman Empire, by the way.

Aleena IS DEFINITELY NOT JUSTINIA—

So furthering Sonia’s being the irresponsible one in this episode, she refuses to discuss plans with her brothers and just decides she’s going to sneak in with a disguise despite the other two being firmly against taking the risk. Because she doesn’t want to get dirty. This is funny, and because the boys don’t understand her, not poor teamwork. Have I mentioned how much I dislike Sonia’s character type?

Okay, so this was a common theme in the 90s, and for all I know it’s still a common theme and I just don’t know because I don’t watch kids shows that much anymore. But the amnesia thing had this trope where the amnesiac becomes really credulous and innocent. It kind of frustrates me, because it implies that they are only cautious because they’ve been hurt before, but they usually remember things they only learned in battle. It’s like… pick a lane, writers!

(Also, off topic, I watched the Fallout show the other week and can I just say Maximus acting like a credulous child in the vault—particularly when the subject of sex came up—legitimately pissed me off?) (Basically I get annoyed about infantilisation) (There is a long rant about the difference between lack of knowledge and childishness in here somewhere)

Manic is being so ridiculously competent this episode. As he often is when he gets sidelined. Yes I make too much of this.

Sonia is a snob even without her memory.

Sonia is such a snob without her memory that she trades her necklace for bread and ten gold pieces. Because it’s odd looking. I just… this… ugh.

Manic comes up with the idea to play music to summon their sister. You know, like Sonic did in the first episode. Sonic does not make this connection until Manic reminds him that’s how it works. -facepalm-

The Song: We need to be Free. It’s good, but slightly distracting is that Sonia specifically notes that she thinks she’s what’s missing and does NOTHING ABOUT THAT but dance for the crowd, also there’s very definitely a… ney, google tells me it’s called, playing and no way for Sonic’s guitar to be making that sound. I am making faces at my screen.

And of course knocking her head restores her memory while removing everything since she got amnesia. There are tropes that must occur.

…Sonic says Sonia was right about using disguises over the sewers… because of the smell. This never usually bothers him. He then comments on hating water though, so maybe it’s just a bit too close to the Moby Deep episode and he’s bitter. It better not be because we need Sonia to look good this episode.

But Dingo’s in there so yes, they use disguises.

Sonic implying less than 100% American heterosexuality +1 (this time in drag!)(You cannot deny even in contemporary media that he prefers skirts over pants)

Manic, however, does not seem nearly as comfortable and is way more patronising. He does not have good fem!vibes.

Aleena distracts Sonia from her friend, getting him caught…

…Sleet is 100% loving Sonic as a courtesan. “Wow, what a woman” indeed.

And Sonia is way more surprised to see Manic in a dress. Yes I make too much of this.

And Raphie gets partially robotocised! Nooo! But he’s mostly okay. Unlike with Cyrus, there is no angst to be had here. Only good vibes.

Sonia says Manic makes a much prettier girl than Sonic. I disagree. But luckily, Sonic is too cool to actually care. Slay.

Overall, a decent start to the week, with multiple OCs that I love dearly. We’ll never see Raphie again, sadly, which is probably just as well because Tashistahn leans into some slightly skeevy tropes, but the ANGST THAT COULD HAVE BEEN GUYS YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. He lost his entire lower half! Bunnie Rabbot without the arm! There are REASONS she was subtextually horrifying!

ugh nat i need help. i totally cant get over swiftwyn, like ever since they broke up I’ve been more heartbroken ab it than I think they themselves are lol. Okay SO I think you've analysed it very correctly - you're mourning something that existed in your head and it's difficult to get closure on something that's not yk real. For Taylor and Joe, breaking up was the result of falling out of love (which is normal but sad). For you, you're having to break up with Swiftwyn without ever falling out of love with them because, as you rightfully point out, you don't know them and weren't involved. You loved the concept (that's all other people's relationships can ever be if we're not somehow caught up in the middle of it). You don't have to stop loving the concept. It's not that different from idk The Doctor and Rose together or Meredith and McDreamy or idk that gay Supernatural ship.

So my advice is take a deep breath and allow yourself to still like them as a ship from when they're together. Them being broken up in 2023 doesn't mean you can't imagine 2016 them when Delicate comes on (if that's what pops into your head), same as you can picture Jake and Taylor when ATW plays and same as you can rewatch episodes of your favourite ships even when the couple later breaks up or idk the show ends.

Because we're operating with the concept, not with real life.

Now here's where it gets tricky though. We are liking concepts but dealing with real people - that's where liking celeb couples gets weird. So while it's perfectly okay to listen to Delicate and imagine the dive bar or look at the potato quality pap shots of them or whatever, what's not okay is harassing them or the recurrent "DAD COME BACK" jokes (which mostly stopped now that TK is around, which goes back to how this is concept not real life). Because like... they're real people who just got over each other and that's sad and I can't imagine dealing with my own issues and having strangers "mourning" it for me or telling me who I should date next. People are mad weird.

As for "love isn't real" - well, Hollywood love isn't really. The Notebook doesn't happen irl. I mean read this interview from Goldie about Kurt. Kurt and Goldie broke up/took separations in both 2000 and 2004. Then they realised that even though they pissed each other the fuck off, they're better off staying together, and here they still are now. One day, maybe they'll take another separation and stay apart after that. Who knows!?!?! NOT THEM. So certainly not us. Love is incredible and magical but it's also going to have ups and downs and require work and compromise and if the bad starts outweighing the good then it's time to find something else.

my roman empire

as a 14 year old kid learning about indie rock music and the exploration of ballet flats in preparation for college (I've advanced), I've become fond - to use the term fond is such an understatement - of Arctic Monkeys and ofcourse, Alex Turner and Alexa Chung. They came at a time where Tumblr had nothing but a distinguishable niche of black and white, flash photography and red lipstick. I was immediately consumed. As an child without siblings, constantly on Pinterest, Tumblr and Lookbook; and scowering the internet for illegal copies of my favorite albums before the dawn of Spotify, I made their existence a part of my psyche. And even now as a 25 year old, grown and have continuously ventured into other interests, others that more suit my preferences - I always gravitate back to this, a part of my adolescent existence, and once a year or even more so on occasions I can't recall, I deep dive into their relationship. A four year partnership solidified by images on Google and countless articles praising their bond and I can't help but feel a pang of pain each passing year I return to my Google searches and find lesser and lesser articles of them - well not really lesser, but just pushed back by the number of things that the media would likely offer, the new things, the present things they're actually on to. And in my parasocial relationship, a trio that never existed outside of my mind, I dread the day I won't be able to re read old articles of their love. Totally acknowledging the absurdity of this blog entry alone, I think it's mainly because its one of the few things I've actually been a fan of, and I rarely become a fan of anything really. Or maybe the amount of fandoms I enter is a fair amount, but just not shared by the general public which is hard when you want someone to converse about it with. In some wicked part of me, I want to combine all Tiktok videos of manifesting all to get them back together - surely there's a way. But of course, they're both happy where they are now, and people like me are the only one's clinging on to this forgotten piece in pop culture history. I saw an article that discussed this, I believe it was from InStyle, titled 'I'll Never Forget When Alexa Chung's Love Letter from Alex Turner Was Found in a Bar' to be more specific, it was under the website's category 'Breakups That Broke Us' (a weekly column about the failed celebrity relationships that convinced us love is dead). I suggest you read it, because she perfectly encapsulates some of the feelings I have for writing this entry.

I think its also because I'm just generally terrified of love, albeit my relationships and ventures, it's always been something so delicate I normally wouldn't dabble in it. I think too much, worry and dream on what can be a little over normal that sometimes it may be better to just stick to being alone. But maybe it has also been an effect of the latter, by being alone too much I've become ingulfed in media and literature that I can only tolerate men's behavior when they're fictional or not in the presence of my own life. But maybe not just that as well, as a gender fluid person, I often think of taking the men out the equation and just dating women. But I think sometimes consuming too much media makes me aloof about the world and often just want to crawl into a hole and not have to think or decide anything.

I originally planned on writing this entry with Arctic Monkey's in the background, but the 14 year old inside me is heaving from chest pains of the unknown and its laughable. Almost want to write "haha" into it, and I may have just cleverly made a way to do that ;)

Tips for "family-centered" churches, from someone who fell through the cracks.

I attended megachurches for most of my life, and I went to one for a few years as a single adult. As soon as people there figured out I didn’t want to assimilate into their family-first culture, they let me disappear.

Even before I figured out I was queer, I knew I didn’t fit the mold.

I didn’t want to get married, or have kids. The singles ministry was little more than a setup for Christian men and women* to meet, and eventually pair up.

I stopped going after a while, choosing to attend the just worship service and, on certain Sundays, play in the orchestra. Being among adults of all ages in the music ministry, where there was no expectation to marry one of the members, was more comfortable than being with my peers in the singles ministry.

(*This church was also implicitly non-affirming; male and female were the only recognized genders, and same-sex marriage was never mentioned, indicating that it was a taboo topic.)

It’s been years since I’ve attended a megachurch. I’ve since deconstructed my faith and rebuilt it, embraced my queerness, and discovered my call to ministry.

Now that I’m in a place where I can safely reexamine my old beliefs, I realize that the church at large idolizes the nuclear family.

I’m not the only one who’s made this realization. Many Christian leaders are talking about it, and even Focus on the Family—notorious for its emphasis on fostering healthy, godly families—even stated that family has become an idol.

Bringing idolatry to light is a good thing. But I don’t think it’s enough.

If we want to eradicate this form of idolatry, we need to change our hearts, minds, and church programs.

I have a few suggestions.

Emphasize and foster spiritual families, not just the nuclear family.

In Matthew 12:50, Jesus says, “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother" (NIV 2011). As Christians, we share an identity in Christ. As a result, we should be thinking of the entire church as our family, not just those who are related to us by blood or marriage.

Create programs that promote integration, not segregation.

Age and marital status aren’t the only ways to sort people into Sunday school classes. What about faith level? Bible study topic? Theological interests? Young adults, elders and those in between should be given ample opportunity to interact so they can benefit from each other’s perspectives.

The churches I attended don’t recognize the diversity of their members, and instead force them to assimilate to prescribed gender roles. For example, not all women want to get married and have kids. Having women’s Bible studies focus exclusively on biblical marriage and household management excludes them. Where can they go to learn about God or grow in their faith? There’s not a place for them in these churches!

Encourage members to create support systems in their community, not just within their families.

Although the church does its best to promote healthy, godly families, the sad reality is that not all families are tightly knit and self-reliant. Divorcees and widows cannot rely on spouses for support; orphans, foster children, and queer folks who’ve been disowned by their families cannot rely on biological parents for support; and anyone who has strained relationships with their relatives cannot rely on family for support.

In the early days of Christianity, the church was the primary support system for those living in the Roman Empire:

“They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

Acts 2:45-47 (NIV 2011)

The church exists, in part, to be a community for those who otherwise wouldn’t have one. But unfortunately, many churches today exclude those who need the most support. I wonder what Jesus would have to say about that.

Final thoughts

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul compared the church to the human body. Although he was speaking primarily about the purpose of spiritual gifts, we could apply his analogy to the insight that each member of a church brings to the whole congregation. Churches that have placed the family on a pedestal might not realize that they’ve fallen into idolatry unless single adults, widows, orphans, and others without strong family ties call it out.

We need everyone to contribute to this spiritual community. To call out idolatry. To carry each other's burdens in difficult times and rejoice with them in the good times. To support each other when our families cannot.

We need each other, period.

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 2

Whew, took me awhile to get to this episode because life got really busy. Excited to have time for anime again. This episode was fun. We’re still in the “introducing stuff” phase and I almost feel like they’re moving too quickly. We got so many new digivolution reveals this episode and I feel like that’s takes the fun out of things. On the other hand, maybe that’s a good thing because it means they won’t be relying on digivolution reveals to make each episode interesting? I guess we’ll have to see...

Digimon introduced: Poromon, Hawkmon, Holsmon, Upamon, Armadillomon, Digmon, DemiVeemon

Notes:

-This seems like a common thing in older shows (the original Tokyo Mew Mew comes to mind) but the narrator dude in the beginning sounds SO bored! Why did they hire some monotone middle aged guy to read the script? I think the dub idea of having one of the kid’s narrate not only makes way more sense but gives more personality to the episode intros.

-"Kaiser” was a weird choice for the name of this season’s villain. I had to Google where it came from and apparently it’s from the time of the Holy Roman Empire. It just makes me think of sandwiches tho lol

-I get the vibe from the OP that the Digimon Kaiser will have a redemption arc, but rn he just seems like a cringey chuunibyou kid

-I got culture-shocked (time-shocked?) when the teacher was like “of course I can’t use a computer!” How far we’ve come...(I was 8 when this episode came out btw).

-The transition to the new “chosen children” seems so weird to me. They’re singled out with their new digivices and only their outfits change when they come to the digital world. It’s like the digital world was like “meh, we don’t need you older kids anymore.” I do like how they’re setting up the OGs as mentors though, that’s cute.

-The fashion sense and hairstyles are baaaaad. What the heck did they do to Mimi!? They massacred my gurl

-Why couldn’t the new kids have gotten unique crests instead of the same ones as the previous chosen kids? I don’t like how they’re setting them up as archetypes already instead of letting them be their own thing for a bit.

-Miyako saying “we’re prepared for danger!” and then flailing and screaming 2 seconds later was kind of annoying, but also she’s like 12 so that’s pretty par for the course.

-Sora reassuring Miyako by saying “I know you’re scared now, but you’ll cherish these memories someday” kinda felt like Miyako was being suckered into a cult lol. Being “chosen” sure is a lot of pressure for an elementary schooler.

-I noted that Iori, AKA Koushiro 2.0, got the digimon with the funny accent, just like Tentomon. Interesting...

-I like the cheesy early 2000s sequence that plays where the kids get sucked into the digital world. Kinda dated, but in a good way.

-The designs of the new digimon are okay in baby and rookie forms, but I think the armor digivolutions are butt ugly. Unsurprisingly, I don’t see a lot of fanart or nostalgia out there for them.

-I wonder why some characters have completely black eyes and others have more traditionally “anime” eyes. It gets a little distracting at points when you see both side-by-side.

-The new battle music is wimpy as heck. I never really loved the season 1 battle music either, but this music is weirdly quiet and not intense enough. I felt like the sound effects were really drowning it out.
