The Tower isn’t a route I personally like all that much (the dommy attitude is so overblown it wraps back around into being kinda boring to me, I’m sorry; Nightmare’s more my kinda dom) but it’s got such fascinating bits and pieces of lore and characterization in it.
The Narrator straight-up saying something along the lines of “you’ll always be able to slay her as long as you believe in yourself”, and the Tower complimenting it by saying you can break her chains as long as you believe it can be done
The Tower being able to directly interact with the Narrator and take over the narration (Spectre and Wraith also can interact with him when possessing us, but they don’t take over him like Tower does), and accurately reading his nature as an Echo
I also find it incredibly fascinating that the one route with explicit Church symbolism is about power imbalance and believing in the ultimate power of a god you can never hope to reach (and as someone who was raised Christian, I just look at that and go– ‘hmmmmm’); and yet, despite that, and despite going through her own apotheosis, she’s not the one described as closest to the Shifting Mound; Wild is. The Shifting Mound may have her own divine arrogance, and will undermine your attempts at another option, but she never denies you the ability to debate her on level ground. Tower may be her divine arrogance, but it’s Wild—the one that, through a conflict that tangled you both so tightly, became one with you—that got closest to her real form.
And also– this moment right here:
Tumblr media
Not only is it hilarious but it also emphasizes Hero’s role: Agency.
Since the start, he’s offering us new options to explore, opening up the ability to question our situation. When we try to resist Tower’s influence, Hero is the one that help us through it. And when in the final battle with the Shifting Mound, it seems like we’re stuck between two choices, Hero’s the one that appears to offer a third option.
And when we give up our agency, he’s the one we’re giving up and putting in a corner.

For The Forgotten Ones is completed, I haven’t read the final chapter yet because I wanted to finish this first
Buddy thank you so much for this wonderful story, I know I keep saying it but it genuinely changed my life. I hadn’t been in the Undertale fandom since about 2017, it was my first fandom experience so it was very special to me, but I left it far behind. at the start of this year I stumbled upon Calcium-cat’s comic based on the first chapter, and I found my way to this fic and read I think seven chapters in one night LOL. I had to stop because it was so late, but afterwards I sat in the dark of my room and just, felt. this fic felt like the peak of the old Undertale fandom, it was almost overwhelming (in the best way). all these emotions and this energy that I hadn’t felt in years all came rushing back it was like magic. like rediscovering the meaning of life. I know that sounds ridiculous and cheesy but Undertale genuinely made me who I am, it was my first fandom, drew my first fanart and wrote my first fan fiction and went to my first con and made friends and discovered this whole community that made me feel like me. and this story is interwoven with all of that. it feels like Home.
because of this fic I gained the motivation to create SO MUCH art, my skills have developed so much and I genuinely love my art now when I didn’t really before. I’ve found my style bc of you :) I’ve also gained an actual following now that continues to grow which is a dream come true since I first joined the internet. and I’ve made so many wonderful friends, I’ve got a group that came together bc of this fic and they’re all such wonderful people that I may never have met otherwise.
I’ve still got so many screenshots and ideas to draw for this fic so I’ll be appreciating it for a long time still, but this is a thank you, a gift and an appreciation for all that you’ve done. you consistently uploaded a sizeable chapter EVERY WEEK which is INSANE, your dedication is so inspiring. you created a beautiful world and characterized all these popular characters so well, especially when mischaracterizations have become the fandom canon atp (looks at Swap Sans,,,) you did so much. you created a family we all adored, we laughed and cried and prayed and joked and created this wonderful community within a wonderful community just to appreciate your words. truly effing masterful. I love For The Forgotten Ones, I will print it out into a book someday soon, to put it on my shelf where I can see it always. Thank you thank you thank you I’ve said so many words and still I feel I have not expressed the depths of my feelings
oh well
I gotta post this sometime lol
ok bye :) 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
(and to anyone else who reads this, this art is also going to be my dtiys event but I’ll make a separate post for that !!!! it’ll be going on until the end of November)

-This guy has major mommy trust and commitment issues. Which may explain why he is a single deadbeat dad and was barely aware he has a whole kid (I swear I'm just joking about him, we'll get more in depth right neow~), but that was all in your head to be false. He didn't think he would make it as a father, hell to even take care of himself due to the obsession of needing to be powerful than his father. All because he wanted to protect his mother, his little brother-the whole family he felt like a failure...not anymore though
-It seems like when you interact with the squad you were...calming. Even if you claim yourself to be chaotic and loud there is something unique about you he just can't put it. It just leads him being cold and distant away from you, because he is confused and irritated the fact he didn't understand why, but that's only the reason he is afraid to be vulnerable. He already has, the outcome turned into a repeated nightmare with Nero being put into an orphanage cause of the demons always on his tail and to end the Sparda bloodline. That's when he realizes it was love...that's what he thinks it would be. He is infatuated
-Sure, his father wasn't around so much fighting off demons when he was young, but hearing his mother telling stories and experience of her and his fathers romance made his inner child be in awe. Despite Dante's disgusted reactions as he claims that they are 'cooties'-Vergil would ask his mother now and then what his father, Sparda, done for his mother, Eva. Vergil then follows what his father would do for you instead, it was awkward at first since you felt like he didn't like you at all until he starts complimenting your handy work fighting off demons, next was saving you when you were so close to dying before Nero has the chance to pull you aside for aid, and to be around you for company as he reads being at peace with you next to him doing your hobbies
-Everyone was shocked, yet proud he is starting to open up to more people instead of them and lowkey shipping ya'll, so they would give you guys some alone time. However, it was strange that whenever you leave the couch to get something and come back that one of your sketches was gone and the pencil wasn't placed at the same spot-no way it could've rolled off, or even that dress/suit you wore only once you remember you put it all the way to the back of your closet only for it to be gone. You assume it was Nico or maybe Dante pulling something funny, but they told you they have no idea. Surely, Vergil wouldn't do that, you knew it yourself...right?
-Things were missing-small things that you own, but were important to you. Eventually, you confronted Vergil, finally and he said,"Why on earth would I even bother to touch a humans belongings? Let alone a full blooded human. I have other important things to do." Yikes, that was harsh. This lead you to be more frustrated and gave up if things disappear...when you do though everything starts to come back. You're starting to get paranoid. Even your dress/suit is back in the closet, but there was a strange strand of hair on it. It was white-the twins!? No, it couldn't be. Dante is a flirt sure, but not a creep. Nero is a good boy, and he knew better since Kyrie would end him. But, Vergil??? Oh god no...
WARNING!!! Spicy after this thread [MDNI🔞]
-This dude has a shrine okay?? Somewhere out there we don't know, not even the squad knows, the demons-nobody, okay?? He does this as a way to cope with being touch-starved, fear of committing due to being a half-demon that you may end up getting killed cause of him, he doesn't want you to see him all disgusted by how much of a filthy man he is smelling the perfume and just your addicting scent on that dress/suit he can not help to purr and let out raspy moans, rubbing the boner that's tenting his pants smelling you
-Whenever you save him from a surprise attack or training together that you always manage to win and pin him, he would compliment. It's like more of a 'oh that's nice...still you could've just done this-' kind of manner if that makes sense. You usually roll your eyes or tell him "I don't care and I never asked, son of Sparda." Honestly, you assume he is going to be triggered by the mockery, but nope! It seems like your sarcasm and attitude of not giving a fuck about his egotistical and obnoxious critiques awaken something in him that you got him readjusting his collar. Like why am I losing oxygen? I swore I didn't put this shirt on too tight. Sure, Vergil, sure~
-Now the times Vergil wouldn't be around you and the squad is, because he is at your place smelling the air as every single just in the room itself is reeking of your lovely scent. He has been to hell, but if this were heaven he never wants to leave. Vergil wants to know where you sleep, what you eat, what cup you drank to see the prints of your lips were formed, the dirty clothes that's been used, because that one is stronger than the rest-he is like a kid in a candy shop
-Eventually, when you find out on what he is truly doing you were in shock. The Vergil having an obsession over you? You predicted he hated you, didn't want to be around you, etc. He claims to be feral around you that's why he has a certain look on his face when you stand or sit too close to him he has to scoot or walk away, before it got worse. Like a hungry dog he wants to feast, but he is scared. He doesn't want you to leave him or possibly die from a demon interfering...if that's the case he will have you when you're unconscious
-He wants to taste you all over. He has licked your neck, back, waist, legs, and...oh is that an opening? Just a little tug on your shirt up and dammit there it is. Your chest bare and he ends up licking around, sucking and nibbling your nipples gently as he doesn't want to wake you up. There were times he got carried away when you let out a loud moan from sucking them a little to hard he hid and you woke up confused. You go back to sleep again, knocked out peacefully, and when you woke up again the sun was out. That's weird. It feels weirdly...good. You couldn't move your legs as it made you wake up for real looking down to see Vergil giving you head. The way he shot his eyes up though, glowed of hunger. There is no way you can fight him off cause he is going to finish this until you cum

Destiny is a story about shapes and grief.
I think I may have figured out Destiny. I don't think the primary conflict between the Light and the Darkness is the philosophical issue we thought it was.
I got thinking about it after all this talking, with many others but especially @jazzhandsmcleg, about the way all of The Witch Queen DLC and its 4 seasons have had overarching narratives surrounding trauma and cycles of violence and grief, and the way the Darkness and the Light are characterized by their different approaches to it.
In TWQ, Savathûn is given a true second chance for her species in the Light. But as Ikora points out, she struggles to break free of the learned patterns of the Darkness, continuing the pattern of deception and violence.
Same with Season of the Risen - it’s the Warlords and Dark Ages all over again, but this time it’s the Hive. It forces once again to ask: what does it mean to be given a second chance if this is what you do with it? Temper this with Saladin’s story about the girl from the Dark Ages who he protected, but who became a cruel mortal Warlord in her own right. Crow objects to the mental torture of the Hive Lightbearers and he tries to break from the cycle of interspecies violence, but unintentionally ends up continuing it by killing the Psion and heightening tensions between humans and the Uluran.
Season of the Haunted!!! Literally, the entire thing is about confronting your traumas and greatest fears and the worst parts about yourself and beginning to heal them, making something better from them. Completely changing the game by turning Nightmares that torment into Memories that guide you. Crow with the memory of Uldren, Zavala with that of Safiyah, Caiatl that of Ghaul - and most importantly, resolution focuses on how they, specifically have been held back from healing by their self-incriminating Nightmares. It challenges the cycle of continuing violence on a very personal level. Eris even has patrol dialogue describing the a Nightmare as a thing of pain craving only more pain: "Such is the cycle."
Season of Plunder brings up the very same questions on a much higher organizational level. It gives us Eido and Eramis taking very different jaded vs. new-hope approaches to the legacy of the Whirlwind, asking: can we change? Are we defined by generational trauma forever? Can we continue to grow and change for the better even though it can never be undone? Though Eido is clearly young and naïve, we're clearly given the opportunity and narrative nudge to sympathize with her desire and hope for growth and redemption, both for the Eliksni overall, and for Eramis in particular.
And we're not even done with Season of the Seraph, but it already goes incredibly hard asking the same questions, again from a more personal angle. How far, and through how many generations is trauma transmitted? From the Bray family to Rasputin, to Felwinter to Osiris to Ikora – how do we fix this? How do we fix this? How do you defeat an enemy who IS war itself? What can you do to end an endless cosmic cycle of violence?
Go back and back and back in Destiny's lore even back to D1, and the majority of conflicts seem driven by this cycle of grief and revenge and violence. The entire line of humanity's war with the Hive goes back through Oryx's grief for Crota and the First Crota Fireteam and Eriana-3's grief for her wife Wei Ning. Even the Hive siblings' pact with the Worm Gods, though manipulated by Rhulk, was driven by the pain and grief they endured for themselves and their people, and wanting to escape that cruel pattern. The entire predicament of the Eliksni and their conflict with humans is driven by the trauma and grief and loss of the Whirlwind. Even Caiatl's empire, a conquering force that would be highly regarded by the sword logic, now must reckon with the same kind of loss in the Fall of Torobatl.
How do you escape this cycle and stay free of it?
I think, this year, we are finally seeing the beginnings of an answer.
I can't highly enough recommend the TWQ Collector's Edition lorebook (page scans & transcript) and The Hidden Dossier (page scans & transcript) that immediately follows it. What I've been calling Ikora's theory of "memory and grace" that she develops through the course of these two lore books is a balanced philosophy of memory/Darkness and grace/Light (which honestly deserves an entire post of its own). I think it clearly points toward the final resolution the story of the conflict between the Darkness and the Light.
In light of this, something in the Calus part of the new Lightfall CE lorebook (images, transcript) really jumped out at me.
Tumblr media
“The doomed and the damned left the record of their downfall in the OXA. Your star got its name from the oldest myths in that archive. And when your mother told your father that story…the star became your name. A prayer that all will go as it must…and the way it must go is struggle.” “Aiat.” Not a word in Ulurant or any other Cabal tongue. “But Caiatl means something else..” “Yes. ‘It may not always go as it needs to go.’ A good name for a soldier." "A strange name for a daughter," I say. "Your father chose it for your mother's sake. Out of love."
And because the parallel is so overwhelmingly striking, I am once again going to reference philosophy/worldbuilding from the Young Wizards universe, which has great resonance with Destiny lore and which Bungie has been long aware of and has even been referenced in Forsaken-era canon lore.
“all the fair things skewed, all the beauty twisted by the dark Lone Power watching on his steed. If only there were some way he could be otherwise if he wanted to! For here was his name, a long splendid flow of syllables in the Speech, wild and courageous in its own way—and it said that he had not always been so hostile; that he got tired sometimes of being wicked, but his pride and his fear of being ridiculed would never let him stop. Never, forever, said the symbol at the very end of his name, the closed circle that binds spells into an unbreakable cycle and indicates lives bound the same way.” [...] “Nita bent quickly over the Book and, with the pen, in lines of light, drew from that final circle an arrow pointing upward, the way out, the symbol that said change could happen—if, only if—and together they finished the Starsnuffer’s name in the Speech, said the new last syllable, made it real.” Excerpt From: Diane Duane. “So You Want to Be a Wizard, New Millennium Edition.”
CAIATL’S NAME IS LITERALLY THE UP-AND-OUT SYMBOL.
I know I'm probably only talking to the handful of Destiny players from the (very small) Young Wizards fandom, but what you need to know is that this moment is pivotal and sets up the series-long theme of hope for an eventual exit from the cycle. It's the incredibly small, overwhelmingly improbable possibility of a second chance, a new start for the Lone Power, the source of all strife and suffering, who itself is driven by loss and pain. A concept of extended grace that is inherently tied to the philosophy of the Light.
“Billions of years, it took. All the redemptions there have ever been went toward this; from the greatest to the least. And finally in the fullness of time you came along, and took my role, of your own will, and woke up a race powerful enough to change the whole Universe, and gave them the fire.” She glanced up at the mobiles and smiled. “How could he resist such a bait? He took the gamble: he always does. And losing, he won.” [...] “The Defender reached down and put a hand into the shadow. “And we are going where such matters are transcended… where all his old pains will shift. Not forgotten, but transformed. Life in this universe will never have such a friend. And as for His inventions… look closely at Death, and see what it can become.” The long, prone darkness began to burn, from inside, the way a mountain seems to do with sunset. “Brother,” the Defender said. “Come on. They’re waiting.” Excerpt From: Diane Duane. “High Wizardry New Millennium Edition.”
This is the devil’s second chance, its homecoming. Grace among the memory. How do we heal this? By fixing it. By making and TAKING that opportunity of grace.
Likewise, Destiny is shaping up into its own universe’s story of this Reconfiguration, the remaking of everything that exists through the act of a second chance, both offered and taken, with full awareness of the irreversibility of harm already caused.
Destiny isn’t the story of the light and the darkness fighting each other. That happens, but that’s not what it’s ABOUT.
It’s “And I know exactly what we are. We’re best frenemies with a history of intense mutual hurt and messy reconciliation, leaving a deep tenderness as well as an almost impenetrable knot of scars. What could be simpler?” (Chalco)
It's “For so long, I believed peace was beyond my reach. No more. I have found it in guiding others down the same path that saved me. But… I might allow myself to want more than peace. What, I am not certain. Is joy the word? Might I find that again?” (Eris)
It's “Second chances… hm. Turns out I've been using mine wrong. I thought being a Guardian was my destiny. That wielding the Light for good was the most I had to offer. But it's clear now. This is what the Traveler chose me for. I was reforged in the Light for a purpose. To remake something dead and gone… into something beautiful. To learn how to forge something new from what we were. Everything Uldren did to the Reef, the Scorn… Fikrul. I have a responsibility — no — a calling to make them whole. And… I can't replace Cayde. But I can cover his old patrols — maybe organize the Hunters a bit, if they'll let me. Clean up some of my mess. I don't know if I can fix everything Uldren left broken… but I can try.” (Crow)
We aren’t defeating the Darkness. That’s never what it’s been about. It’s about breaking the cycle of trauma and grief with memory and grace. We're transcending the Final Shape, but we're not here to destroy it or become it. We’re harmonizing the Darkness and the Light into a sustainable balance to create something new from the wounded remains.
We're here to heal the broken relationship between the Winnower and the Gardener.
That's all that it is, in the end. They had a falling out, and now they hurt, and they hurt each other, and everything else, forever. Breaking free from that cycle begins and ends with them.
Is that fair? No, it's not.
But Destiny is – unhingedly, brilliantly, paradoxically – a FPS game about how to stop killing each other, growing ever more into a framework of restorative and reparative justice.
The story says, we are all culpable, we have all done awful shit and have endless potential to do more awful shit – AND, most critically, we all have the potential to do better (grace). AND, the act of making the conscious choice to do so and letting that happen is the only way for things to get better (memory).
The Collapse happened and it was horrible, the Red War happened and it was horrible, the Great Disaster happened and it was horrible, Twilight Gap happened and it was horrible...AND?? HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RESPOND? The Whirlwind happened and it was horrible! The Fall of Torobatl happened and it was horrible! Your species' Choice was stolen and you became the most prolifically violent killers in the universe and it was and is horrible! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
Are you going to make it more horrible? Or are you going to make it BETTER????
Are you going to fight for the Final Shape, or for the gentle kingdom ringed in spears?

First Glance (Part Two)
Tumblr media
It had been a ridiculously long time since you have last seen Anakin. All due to the sudden wave of Jedi trainings, sparring, missions and improving yourself that washed over you like a bucket of ice cold water. Nevertheless, you had to prepare yourself to take the trials. During sessions with the Council, missions with your master and sparring with other Padawan's, you found your mind focused more than ever.
Naturally, with your strict schedule of seemingly endless work, you found no time to think of wandering the Jedi Temple halls. Tempting as they may be, you did commit to undergo Jedi training, and as a Padawan, you had to stay focused. You were determined to not let anything stand in your way, even if it did cost you the possibility of seeing Anakin again. Currently, your mind was busy with turning into bed with a heavy head and full stomach.
Changing gracefully into your nightgown, you couldn't stop your eyes from wandering to the door to your quarters. Just beyond those doors was the chance to clear your head, to get Anakin out of your head. Even then, your feet stayed planted firmly onto the smooth carpet, once done with your nightgown, you walked to your bed, slipping under the covers with a relieved sigh.
As you closed your eyes, you felt your entire body relax and your mind start to rest. No doubt the best part of your day, you let yourself go completely, surrendering to the mansions of rest. A few hours into your peaceful slumber, Anakin slipped into your room. Why? Because he longed to see you. Over the time you two had been away, his mind was restless with thoughts of speaking to you again, and once he haunted the halls of the Temple, while others were completely unaware, he was waiting for you. When you never once showed, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
And that is what led him to you now, his eyes went to your sleeping figure, taking in your amicable figure, how your chest heaved in a serene rhythm, it made him feel a need to protect you. He sat in a chair a few feet from your bed, studying how your sleeping figure was lightened by the beams of twilight that sneaked in through your window.
"I've missed you, Y\N." He breathed, as quiet as the wind. Anakin leaned forward, close to your face as he caressed your cheeks. A touch characterized by the amount of affection he felt for you now, which he did not completely understand at this moment. Touching you felt like a dream, even if it was just your cheeks, it made him feel whole. You stirred, turning ever so slightly, and Anakin retracted back into his chair. Had he awoken you? "Anakin?" You asked softly, and he could feel his heartbeat speed up a great deal.
"Yes?" He answered, his shining blue eyes quickly darting to your eyes. "What are you doing in here?" Your eyes flutter open slightly, feeling your sleepiness wear off ever so slightly at the sound of his voice. "I missed you, of course." Anakin grinned at you. Propping yourself on your elbows, you gazed at him. "Well, I missed you as well." His grin widened at your words. "So, how've you been?" He inquires, leaning back in his chair. "Stressed. How about you? How's your Jedi training going?" Anakin shrugs at you, his grin disappearing, replaced by a more annoyed expression. "Fine, I suppose. I've been having these... nightmares."
You tilt your head at him, curiosity piqued. "Try me." He sighs, standing up from his chair, his hands rubbing his face. "It's about my mom. Remember when I told you we were sold to a slave owner on Tatooine?" You nod. "Well, Qui-Gon rescued only me, so I had to leave her." The feeling in his words was real, as his fist clenched tightly. "What are your dreams of your mother about, specifically?"
Anakin glares at you, instantly you can see the fire in them; reckless, determined but also wounded and flightless. "She's dying, over and over and everytime I get there, it's too late." Tears begin to slowly, painfully prick at his eyes. "She's being hurt and I can't get there. I promised her I would come back.." Anakin's voice raises slightly. "What is the point of this? Torturing her? What has it all come to?" He scowls, his gaze focused intently on the floor. "Anakin, go see your mother." His head snaps toward you, his radiant blue eyes darkened by a uncertainty. "What?" You nod reassuringly, slipping out of your bed and placing a reassuring hand to his shoulder. "Yes, you should."
It takes him a few moments to respond before his eyes trail down to yours, and he slowly wraps his arms around you. "Will you.... will you come with me, Y\N?" He asks, no- pleads, into your ear, his voice soft but shaky and urgent. "Yes." You answer simply, returning his hug with your own, embracing him as you both held onto his each other for what felt like seconds, but was actually minutes. Once Anakin pulled away, he gazed intently into your eyes, trying to scope out any sense of a lie, an empty promise. The moment he could properly reassure himself you were being truthful, he pulled you into another hug.

do you have any recs for good cody characterization?
So, I should preface this by saying I kind of... avoid Cody's fandom, primarily because I'd like to not soil my enjoyment of his character, and as such don't really seek out much fics that do have him.
I can elaborate on this later in a reblog but as of now this post has already gotten ways away from me so I'll be sticking to main discussion of what Cody characterization I enjoy and find to be good.
Additionally, I don't read as much fic as I did a few years ago, mainly because I've gotten pickier in general, but also because real life as of late hasn't allowed much time for seeking out new fics and reading them through.
With that said, much of my change in attitude towards Cody is entirely down to @battlekilt, and much of what I will be discussing with regards to Cody's character is lifting from their conceptions of him (which are strongly based in canon).
Which, with regards to fic recs, I'll put those out here now, these first two will be Kilt's:
Nightmare for Others, Dream for the Self by Aiwha/@battlekilt
note: this fic is Anakin/Rex and while they are the central focus, Cody has some incredible moments, especially with the interplay between himself and Anakin and Rex.
Aay'han—Mournful Celebration: How ARC Troopers Saved The Galaxy by Aiwha/@battlekilt
note: this fic is Obi-wan/Rex but Cody is an incredibly strong character in the main cast, I should also say this can be a heavy read (there is MCD and the grief over that character is a major theme of the story), so, be prepared. But, There is a lot of fluff, especially shared among the Clones.
Also while it's not... out yet, I have been given a lot of previews of their current project and what I've read of Cody in that fic has done a lot of the heavy lifting to change my opinion on his character. So... keep a look out for that one. xD
And, I do have one other Cody fic that's stuck with me:
sun-stunned by ctdogma
note: this fic is gen, it's Cody & Anakin, but it's stuck with me for the way Cody and Anakin relate to each other, and the characterization of them both is also quite enjoyable. It's short, but I quite enjoyed it when I first read it. Also, it is archive-locked, so you will need an ao3 account to read it.
There is also this Cody meta from Kilt that's a good elaboration on the discussion I intend to have on what I do like about his character.
I would also encourage revisiting canon and the moments Cody does have, because there's a lot of character to be garnered from him by observing him. There's this video that compiles his screen time (little over an hour.) The only downside is that certain clips have a giant t.c.w/t.b.b logo thrown over them for, obvious, copyright reasons, but aside from that (which may be a little annoying for certain scenes,) it's a pretty good compilation of Cody.
And, speaking of that discussion, shall we?
The thing that I really enjoy about Cody's character is the internal tension he carries to the dichotomy of his "two halves,” so to speak. He's a character that manages to feel both young and old at the same time. He's young in the sense that, well, that is what he is, chronologically, at the beginning of the war, he's only 20. He comes with a lot of the anxieties and uncertainties expected of him, and those anxieties and uncertainties clash spectacularly with the fact that Cody is expected to be older and more mature. He is the Marshal Commander of the 3rd Systems Army, and the sheer amount of weight and responsibility placed upon his shoulders is massive. It forces him into a position where he has to be older than he is and has to be more assured in himself. He's only at his most comfortable with Rex.
Which, Rex, to me, is a key aspect of understanding Cody's character, because much of Cody's character is fixated to Rex, Cody & Rex are in a same vein as Obi-Wan & Anakin. Which is why Cody's most important moments are tied around Rex. Rex is Cody's most important person, no doubt about it. The sheer amount of respect and adulation Cody holds for Rex is quite telling, he frequently speaks incredibly highly of Rex.
Cody, to me, is quintessentially a character who is both young and old; he's a young man with all the anxieties and uncertainties that come with that pushed into a position afforded to seasoned Generals, men much older than he is, a position that affords him with immense responsibility and authority. Cody is wound tight in his code of honor; he's dutiful and professional, and he's strong in his convictions. But at the same time, all of that soldierliness, all of that which Cody is fundamentally a damn good soldier, in every respect of the word, is conflicted against the "youth" in him. It’s conflicted with his anxieties about himself and his performance. And I think the internal conflict between these aspects of Cody is what makes him so juicy; he will act out of duty, out of professionalism, he will do as a soldier needs to do, as a Marshal Commander needs to do, but at the same time, he's got those anxieties, about himself, how he conducts himself, the decisions he makes, the choices he makes. It makes for a very crunchy internal conflict between his conscious and his code.
I won't play by play analyze every one of Cody's moments, he's got a lot of them, but here's a list of things I noticed about Cody when rewatching much of his canonical appearances.
Also, a note on these, some of these will have additional commentary from Kilt because I was rewatching these scenes and discussing my observations with them. They had some useful additional commentary.
He stands in parade rest a lot, and he loosens up his stance by the time season 7 rolls around, but in the earlier seasons, and thus, the bulk of his appearances, Cody walks and stands in parade rest a lot, especially in comparison to Rex whose already much looser during that time. To me, this is indicative of his stiffness, of that need to pull himself together into an air of professionalism and orderliness. (Kilt Comment: Multiple character sources cite that Rex was a rather stickler for the Rules(TM), even going so far as being compared to Dogma at the start of the Umbara arc. This tells us that Rex had been actively encouraged and given space to become more comfortable and relaxed than Cody did, whereas the Commander took longer to stretch that.)
The only time he really engages in banter or otherwise engages in comfortable conversation, it's with Rex. This is contrasted with his interactions with Jedi, where he's much more professional, on the job, and orderly.
He conducts himself with some more "elderly" mannerisms, calling Rex "ol' boy" or referring to a clone lower in rank than him as "son." (Kilt Comment: Sir, you’re ten. Also, this tells us that Cody believes that by playing up a wider age difference with his subordinates than he would realistically have, he feels he might be given more weight to himself, the respect he is martially owed.)
Yes, he does fling himself at droids a lot, like half the time a droid gets close enough, he just resorts to kicking or flinging himself full body, very hilarious. (or, otherwise Marshal "IDK what it means to chill" Cody.)
He repeatedly salutes Obi-Wan whenever he's given an order in the earlier seasons (most notably the Ryloth episodes), and it's kind of hilarious, but it also reads as Cody kind of... overcompensating for his respect and orderliness.
Cody has a moment (at the Citadel) where he loses one of his men but has to quickly pull himself together in order to keep moving. I think it's also interesting to take this as a way to highlight when Cody cautions Rex against getting too fixated on the idea that Echo may be alive. (Cody has lost men, and Rex has lost men too; they both know the weight of their grief, and Cody knows how fixation upon the impossible could potentially hurt Rex, and that's the last thing Cody wants. It's a concern for Rex that he shares with Anakin, as Anakin expresses the same concerns.)
Cody also having multiple occasions of giving Rex praise is absolutely indicative of how highly Cody holds Rex; how important Rex is to Cody, but it is also kind of funny how Cody will just... repeatedly laden praise at Rex's feet, a persistent reminder of how great he thinks Rex is. (He totally 100% does not have favorites.) (He most definitely has his favorites, his favorite is Rex.)
I really love how much you can see how Cody's a lot looser in later seasons. His demeanor with Clone Force 99 is a good example. As well as his with Obi-Wan, especially compared to earlier seasons (the majority of Cody's interactions with Obi-Wan in earlier seasons is very much colored with professional distance; they don't really banter or have ease of conversation, it's only in later seasons and ROTS you'll get some more comfortable interactions.)
Cody's harshness towards Slick and traitors in general during those episodes is incredibly fascinating in light of his actions in T.B.B, where Cody himself ends up the traitor when he previously denounced them so strongly. It shows a great level of character growth for him. (And it's one of the things I love about his internal tension, is getting him to a point where he questions whether or not his strong sense of duty and the lines he draws in the sand are correct. The idea that Cody was much more dutiful, less forgiving of those who betrayed that duty, fundamentally a military man in every respect with a strong code of honor he'd never break, makes him come to the point of "this isn't right, the decisions I'm making aren't right," so much weightier. He chooses to become the thing he's previously hated, and that's incredible.)
(All of these little traits and moments from Cody can be categorized into either the "younger" or "older" half of the dichotomy he carries within.)
You really can construe a great character arc for Cody, you can pick up a lot of the little minute details of him by watching him. Going from the Cody of earlier seasons, who conducts himself with the utmost professionalism and duty, whose more youthful underside is only shown when he's around Rex. Where he only allows himself to loosen and open up towards the war’s end. Towards that conclusion, he has allowed himself a chance to unravel from his own rigidness (especially in his worldview,) to the point he deserts despite it being in every sense of the word a betrayal of what he's defined as the duty of a soldier, a definition he's so strongly held to, is incredible. He is such a fascinating character for all this juicy internal tension in him that keeps on pushing and pulling until he finally breaks and listens to his conscious in T.B.B.
That is why I've come to love his character. A lot of these are things I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't have someone who hadn't pointed them out to me and hadn't allowed for conversations about Cody's character that were not defined by a narrow viewing of his character I'd come to dislike. He is such a fascinating character, and the contrasts between his strict code and his conscious is one I really love to apply pressure on, the tension that results from putting Cody in situations where he needs to favor his persona of the 3rd System's Marshal Commander over who he is, just Cody, is quite fun. It's just fun applying pressure to his code, making him question himself and his convictions, and getting him to reevaluate his strict worldview.
Cody is simply a lot of fun to pull apart and play with; and I really adore his character for that.

More IDOL AU thoughts.
Oops :) I just um, ok.
I’m a spitballer, analyst, conceptualizer, visionary 😞✨whatever the heck. i get so many ideas and have to entertain SOME of those ideas. Legitimate ones and illegitimate ones… this is just for fun don’t take me to seriously.🫠
⬇️ CHAOS BELOW ⬇️
Uh oh. You looked. What have you done.
Anyways.
There’s a level of intrigue when it comes to the twins (ik, Ik, again.)
BUT THINK about it. If we are assuming that this au tones down some of the more, erm. Mystical elements of these characters. (Like, being basically gods and such) (also it can’t be said yet how far this goes! Does error still have glitches? Is nightmare corrupted? Does ink have a soul? Do the twins sustain some sort of empathetic abilities? Is killers soul thing normal? Who knows!!!) they would have different origins!! The twins are probably the most in depth of a switch, considering their origins are the MOST bizarre💀
assuming they aren’t buddy buddy (which they could be, we won’t know till zuchiyeni spreads forth their hand into the abyss and reveals to us the flames of canon ✨) they may have had some sort of falling out…
so ahem
THOUGHTS!!
Is Nim their mother.
if an alternate version of Nim(their mother/creator in dreamtale) is, in fact, their mother, it can be assumed they have been adopted in some way :) maybe not depending on how you would view uh, monster coupling💀 but they aren’t visibly of split heritage, and she isn’t a skeleton. In Dreamtale, Nim never put the effort into KNOWING the twins. If that carried over, it could cause some really interesting dynamics. Is NIM associated with the music or entertainment industry? 👀 imagine a cold, uppity Nim. Maybe she isn’t horrible, maybe she is, but She’s got expectations, and is distant.
in this hypothetical, we could question what path the twins really wanted to live. Did they ORIGINALLY want fame? Or did they feel trapped. Did they have to learn to navigate their own way? Do both of them leave her? One? Neither? Does she die? (within this concept , again.)
if she isn’t at all associated, did the twins have dreams and aspirations of fame? Did they….at some point…have a career together??? How sad would that be.
(maybe she isn’t their mother, maybe she’s someone they contracted under. Also YES she easily might not exist in this world I’m just having fun with potential parallels 🫠👏)
NOW. MY BRAIN DEMANDS TO CONSIDER THE OTHER DREAMTALE DEITIES. I could see Quetzalcoatl and Lanny being big in the music industry, which would be INTERESTING if those two and Nim were all affiliated with that life. It would make sense for them to still have the affiliation and possibly competition?
IT ALSO OPENS AGNST OPPORTUNITY. (And you know we love angst in this fandom.)
again, in dreamtale, let’s mention Lanny. Dreamtale is unfinished so keep in mind we don’t have 100% solid characterization, but the creator HAS discussed character personality and bias, and has carried the information to the making of the story so far.
Lanny …is implied to have…had a thing for her fellow guardian, Nim. Lanny hated Nightmare for what he did, for how he ruined everything with the corruption and destroying what’s left of Nim.
but she…also resented and despised Dream. Blaming them both for what happened, and with nightmare having gone rouge, all of that pressure then falls on dream. Dream, who had lived 6 years of life out of the hundreds he was trapped in stone.
She is, not sure how yet, the reason Dream was able to break free of stone, and she went on to mentor him. Train him. But she’s portrayed as being unnecessarily harsh and disdainful towards Dream. (IF WE INCLUDE Neil, yk the cat/ father figure/friend of dream, that would be interesting cause he really cares about dream and seemingly didn’t appreciate lanny’s treatment.)
(also I realize how deranged this sounds without context, there’s WAY to much of dreamtale lore to actually explain here so if you need more context go check out dreamtale lore💀I promise I’m not bs’ing, just criminally simplifying.)
ANYWAYS this is so unorganized. Adhd brain uh—
LANNY. Imagine Dream and Nightmare split ways for whatever reason. Dream signs a contract with this Lanny person. Lanny already knows who he is ofc, and he probably is familiar with her, as she knows their mother and probably has been keeping an eye on them. It would be interesting for Lanny to be a past ( or even current idk) contractor or something to Dream. I don’t imagine he’d have a lot of freedom in that space. She would have a lot of expectation too, and is rather unsympathetic and overworking. Maybe he pulls a t-swift and manages to escape that with the stars 😌 maybe not. Probably manipulative. Gaslighting even.
She could give “caring“ aunt energy.
“wouldn’t want to disappoint them, do you? Disappoint me? LOVELY! I knew you’d understand!”
IF DREAM GOES TO LANNY. What If Nightmare goes to Quetzalcoatl?
this seems odd. But hear me out. Quetzalcoatl is implied to be the one who ends up getting Nim killed in dreamtale. It’s complicated. Anyways, if he has it out for her, and Nightmare grows to resent his mother and/ or her way of doing things, a young nightmare going to the guy who “understands him” is interesting. It would give creepy uncle energy💀 but like. It also makes sense on some level because, again, in dreamtale, the person who attacks Nim and gets her killed is a human. The human is implied to have been a creation OF Quetzalcoatl. (Guardian of the life tree) said person gets killed and perished on the roots of the feelings tree. His um….consciousness is like. Absorbed into the negative side of the tree. (I am SO sorry if you haven’t read about this.) anyways. That GUYYYYYY. Yk nightmares corruption??? YEAH, THAT’S HIM!!! The voice that manipulates nightmare isn’t ‘just negativity’, dreamtale often highlights that negativity also has positive outcomes, just as positivity has negative outcomes, and that balance is important.. it was the GUY being involved that changed things :,) . I don’t think nightmare knows this actually? ANYWAYS NOT THE POINTTTTT. what I mean is. Quetzalcoatl manipulating nightmare makes sense, as he indirectly did so in dreamtale.
he could give vibes of the “cool” creepy uncle.
“They just don’t understand people like us, do they? They never will.”
I can imagine nightmare getting older and more self sufficient and being like F that. Especially as he makes his own friend (mtt trio? 🌸) and realizes he isn’t codependent. But maybe it changed him in a lot of ways.
maybe the twins were in a normal sort of family, and dreamt of life in the spotlight. Maybe one did and one didn’t. Maybe their entire family has more drama than “just them” does, and that complicated things for them. Maybe they’ve been trapped and manipulated and naive in this world too. And they had to grow up and find their way. Maybe those situations have affected them and their worldview. And…their relationship. maybe they weren’t little kids when they fell out, but young, unknowing adults who don’t know who they are and made messy mistakes that affected more then just themselves.
maybe Nightmare can’t stand being misunderstood, and seeing people taken advantage of. Maybe Nightmare needs to be heard, and he’s learned to translate this to music and such. Maybe Nightmare has an easier time being aloof and angry towards his family because it means his own feelings are valid. He enjoys the ability to connect with a lot of people, an audience, while being distanced. He can’t be hurt. He can flip off the people who have hurt him and make his OWN way. The ability to overcome people opinions of him, to prove his own worth to himself. His voice will be heard.
Maybe he want’s to be seen.
maybe Dream desperately needs to have a mask on, he’s not allowed to express himself openly. Maybe he’s confused and can only take on blame for things that have gone wrong. Maybe he feels indebted to this industry , or people around him. Maybe he enjoys the audience as individuals but feels isolated among them, undeserving. Maybe he’s guilty of the fame. Maybe he wants close connection. But people can only see him for the perfect image he puts foreword. Get too real, and people leave.
Maybe he fears being seen.
….ANYWAYS THATS ENOUGH FOR NOW. *snips off the list of concepts here*
Idol! Au belongs to @zucchiyeni
*runs away*

ID: abstract digital art of a thin anthro belgian tervuren child with a droopy face and glasses, wearing a collared shirt tucked into a waist length skirt. she is spiral eyed, her hands are stained with blood, and she is crying blood and drooling. there are many eyes above her eye, erosion around her lazy eye, and blood stains representing her organs. she is partially obscured by a snarling adult feral version of her, whose front leg is in front of her, as if protective. her face and their cheek fur blend together. their fur is alight. a speech bubble from them has a key with their eye as the keyhole. in the background is confused thinking and hallucinations, the words "i don't understand what happened", and random nonsense. someone off screen is saying "glad you're feeling better", and "you're just not trying hard enough". the piece is done in red, orange, and yellow. end ID
hello, i'm the lie living for you so you can hide, don't cry
Neurogenic bladder is the name given to a number of urinary conditions in people who lack bladder control due to a brain, spinal cord or nerve problem. A disorder characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states. Declining renal function is associated with neurological disorders. This refers to problems connected with remembering, paying attention, solving problems, and organizing and working on complex tasks. "I had always just remembered it in the form of a nightmare." Bladder stones can develop when your bladder doesn't empty completely. In people with neurogenic bladder, the nerves and muscles do not work together well. The bladder may not fill or empty in the right way. Pathogens gain a foothold. When the kidneys don't work well, more stress is put on the heart. Thanatophobia is an intense fear of death.

MAG 138 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: putting up a new fence.
MARTIN: "You know I don’t care if Jon hears this." ELIAS: "Come on, Martin. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you. Let’s not start with lies." [MARTIN TAKES A STEADYING BREATH.] MARTIN: (sigh) "Fine." Martin doesn't deny it?
ELIAS: "For all his… many faults, Peter is legitimately trying to stop the end of the world as we know it." MARTIN: "So why haven’t you helped him?" ELIAS: "My relationship to the apocalypse is more… complicated." Okay, Elias saying this?! In the episode of Smirke's statement, where the sky blinks at him? I just realized how many of those conversations fit the tone of the respective episode (without the obvious, like MAG 125, 128, 131, 133, 134 etc). Of course MAG 122, Jon waking up from the dead with the Zombie statement. MAG 124 Left hanging and Martin left Jon hanging. MAG 127 A letter to Jonah with Jon's door motif talk and Basira visiting Elias. MAG 129 opening with Jon and Martin before THE anchor statement. I don't know, MAG 130 maybe? It was about a ritual and the Web suggested this tape to Jon for further preparation of the Eye's mass ritual. MAG 135 talking Basira into a potential Dark ritual after the statement about the creation of that ritual. And then that mean red herring in MAG 136, Web statement with Melanie's therapy (Jon later worries, that Melanie's therapist could be Web). Also like the way Elias talks about Peter, they really sound like a divorced couple xD
MARTIN: "Yeah, well. I’m still not sure I really believe it. (long exhale) A,And I don’t… I – I’m –" ELIAS: "Worried he might charge off into another coffin." [HE MAKES A SMUG LITTLE SOUND.] ELIAS: "Quite." I love how Elias ships Jon and Martin.
ELIAS: "As for why I’ve done so little about such a looming existential threat, (sigh) to be blunt, I have been rather busy." Martin laughs at him, but it's true. He's still pulling strings from the inside of his prison cell and he's going to be very successful with it.
MARTIN: "What? (small dry laugh) That’s it? No, no monologue, no mind games? You love manipulating people!" ELIAS: "That makes two of us." Iconic lines. Web!Martin! Btw no wonder the Web supports Jonah in his scheme, he's quite talented at manipulation himself.
ELIAS: "I simply have to trust that when the time comes, you’ll – (rattle) – make the right choice." Like not to kill him.
"My dear Jonah," Pffft...
"What we built at Millbank should be left well enough alone, resigned to the nightmares of the reprobates and brigands contained within its walls." This statement is such a tease about what's going to come!
"It is telling, that of those I have brought into my confidence, it is only you and I who have continued this far without falling to one power or another, despite all my instruction and work. This is, of course, assuming you have not taken the path of the Eye that I know has called you, called us both for so long." Was this after the Watcher's Crown? -> “ What we built at Millbank should be left well enough alone, resigned to the nightmares of the reprobates and brigands contained within its walls.” That sentence sounds like it. So that ship has sailed? This probably why they didn't stay in contact? -> “ but I feel I must break the silence that has characterized our acquaintance for these past few decades.”
"I’m sure you recall what happened with the Reform Club" MAG 35!
"but you may be unaware of some of my other experiments below the very streets of London." The tunnels for example?
"Places I have tried to cover with churches, of all things" Was there a church built by Smirke in a statement? I immediately thought about the Oratory from MAG 20, but it's in Oxford, Smirke speaks of London here. Thought about Hither Green (MAG 25) or St Paul’s Church (MAG 63), but nope. He wasn't involved in any of the buildings I just listed. Am I missing something or do we actually never hear about anything connected to a church of his?
"perhaps the site of our Saviour will be enough to contain them." Funny how some people still won't lose their faith even in full knowledge of the Dread Powers. Smirke here. I thiiink, Dekker was also religious, was he?
"I stop, and look up at the sky, that empty black nothing, and I see the edges of the horizon becoming a dull white. I cannot understand what I am looking at. And then the sky blinks." Love that foreshadowing!
"I am not a fool. I know well enough what this dream is likely to mean, and I warn you again, that if you have any remaining ambitions to use our work, to try and wear the Watcher’s Crown, you must abandon them!" I know there's this discussion about what the Watcher's Crown actually was, Jonah's prison soap opera or using the Archivist. And, I think, there was something about Jonny saying the Watcher's Crown was Jonah's prison thing and what we see in MAG 160 could be called, like, the Magnus Archives, ha! But the title "Watcher's Crown" does fit the Eyepocalypse pretty well. Jonah calls himself "king of a ruined world" - king and crown and such. And the Eye ruling over all the other Fears like a... United Kingdom (badum tss!). (Also, Gerry says in MAG 111 "Uh, the Rite of the Watcher’s Crown. It’s what she called the ritual for the Eye. She didn’t tell me much about that one, just that she knew how to take care of it." This sounds like Gertrude called the ritual to come the Watcher's Crown. And she knows how to take care of it, sounds a bit like she already knew that the Archivist is the linchpin to the Eye's ritual. I say "a bit" because in the end there is no confirmation that this was exactly what she knew at this point. Gertrude still believed single Fear rituals could work, or she was at least still trying to stop them just for good measure according to MAG 137, which was in October 2014. And I think we don't know an actual death date of Gerry? Just late 2014...)
"But what is not to be dismissed is when your driver, on the long road from London, takes his eyes from the horses and begins to turn his head, slowly at first, but with a clear determination, inch by inch without ceasing, neck cracking and skin stretching, until his whole head seems as though it were placed atop his shoulders in reverse by some careless sculptor. The others in my carriage seemed not to mark this awful sight, but I could scarce look away" This describes the dream logic the Fears bring with them. How they can bend reality just a bit to their needs. Like Martin being trapped by Prentiss, who spent two weeks in front of his flat knocking at the door without any of his neighbors noticing anything!
MARTIN: "Good luck, Jon; I –" love you. (There, finished it for you, you're welcome <3)

my feelings on mdzs cross-medium pollination are so context-specific and driven by what I am trying to achieve in a given moment, but terms like 'frankencanon' and 'medium-bleed' really do help
medium-bleed: a scourge, the stuff of nightmares, a wily bitch to deal with when arguing with anyone who drops their hot take in the tags only to add, either in reblogs or the notes, "admittedly I may be misremembering whether this happened in the novel or in the drama or in the animation" like!!! please god just double-check your work before you submit it to fandom turnitin.com okay. also if I'm reading a fic tagged mdzs rather than cql or the untamed on ao3 and the author starts referencing jgy's time in the cloud recesses babysitting nhs or minshan's demonic flute solos, I'm immediately annoyed no matter how good the rest of the fic is. because that doesn't happen in the novel! and I'm looking for novel fic! (in this example anyway.)
however!!
frankencanon: my beloved!! my self-indulgent brainchild made tenderly from the imperfect component parts of its disparate source media to create, exclusively for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of my good pals, a version of the mdzs jianghu where the vibes are just right for whatever specific feeling we're seeking to achieve (e.g., the novel canon beats of jgy's characterization paired with the on-screen emotional intensity and intimacy that zzj and lhk bring to the xiyao dynamic).
frankencanon is that joyous feeling you get when you and your besties all have a grand time at the renaissance festival, because even if some of you are dressed up as elves and your roommate's corset is anachronistic, you all know what you're there for, and besides there's funnel cake.
medium bleed is when you go to your city's new living history museum expecting to see exhibits and buildings that accurately (or as accurately as the profession allows for) recreate the period in time from the past that they are meant to be educating the public about, but the curator didn't do their due diligence with fact checking the exhibit placards, and the actor-educators can't remember whether they're supposed to be talking about the irish catholics or the pennsylvania germans today. in other words you walk away really confused and knowing less than you did before you showed up (and also you're probably chaperoning a bunch of grade school kids so, you know, my sympathies).
I forgot where I was going with this so I guess I'm done writing now!

Theory: There’s Something Wrong With Chamber
No, he’s not a 34-year-old posing as a 10-year-old (hello Orphan fans).
WARNING: Marathon post with some mention of death and terminal illness.
Thesis statement: Chamber's got some...big health problems (idk how to put it nicely).
L’Art De Vivre
There's a frame showing a newspaper headlined: “Kingdom wishes to reassure the population that radianite has no adverse health effects”. Which def sounds like (1) Kingdom uttering BS (2) foreshadowing that maybe Chamber has an issue with this statement which leads to the next point
“I’ve spent a lifetime preparing. Analyzing every detail with great care in order to surpass my condition.”
Calling French speakers: did he simply mean being better than his old self, or could he have a literal condition? What if his goal has something to do with setting Kingdom straight for their wrongdoings involving radianite which possibly dealt damage to his health?
His Character Design
For someone who is as agile as he is in animations + military background, no offense but he is kinda lanky. (I’M SORRY I LOVE HIM OK? HAHAHA) Like I was expecting some leg muscle or whatnot. Is that intentional or not?
A marksman with glasses? I know some regiments allow marksmen to not have perfect vision, or require surgical correction, but from what I know, 20/20 is preferred. Maybe he had good vision before. Just seemed odd idk I’m not a soldier or something.
And ok he has his “bigger picture.” A plan that goes beyond him, something he wants to be realized even when he isn’t in that picture anymore. Huge bet, this is radianite-related. And something radical. A world without radianite? A more charitable/sustainable use of it? IDK yet.
In the Fracture map trailer, he calls the efforts of Everett-Linde’s scientists “noble, but sacrifices must be made”. Pretty radical what he did here tbh.
And if he’s radical with his approach, he likely doesn’t give a shit if he dies. This is not just about him.
So ok. Terminally ill. Has big plan before he goes. Doesn’t care if he dies because he knows he will and it’s just a matter of when.
I can’t believe I went full nerd on behaviors with terminal illness and hopped onto ScienceDirect: “Ganzini et al. reported the perceptions of 35 Oregonian physicians who had received a patient request for a lethal prescription under the Death with Dignity Act. These physicians described patient personalities as strong and vivid, characterized by determination, inflexibility, and a wish to control the timing and manner of their death and to avoid dependence on others.”
More on the behavior of the terminally ill. I saw this: “Within the setting of end-stage disease, Cohen et al. suggest that patients contemplating death-hastening measures have personalities marked by independence, perfectionism, and narcissistic traits.” (Death-hastening: “A reaction to suffering, in the context of a life-threatening condition, from which the patient can see no way out other than to accelerate his or her death.” So basically making it happen to end suffering and ensuring its done at their discretion.)
Sounds like him? In this case, his plan, his determination to achieve it, and his tendency to work on it alone (or with only his other self) makes sense.
Also supporting with this huge insightful Twitter thread; he doesn’t seem to be after world domination per se, but may want to overthrow Kingdom: (https://twitter.com/crowfootinmouth/status/1518674905772048384)
Makes total sense for him to work with the VP in this case since it’s full of people who are against Kingdom.
His Fears, According to Fade
His dossier says whatever he’s doing is not aimless ambition.
However, he may be afraid of being called a villain, possibly referring to the Fracture incident and whatever he plans to do next.
The nightmare shows he has a fear of being looked down upon, either afraid of being called a villain…before his death? Or maybe afraid of dying with his plan unfulfilled? Or…afraid of being belittled due to his condition? All of it combined?
So yeah lil logic jumps here and there, terminally ill, radianite -> radiation -> cancer. Another harvest from a Sagepub journal: “Personality traits [in end-of-life cancer patients] seem to be actively involved into the loss of dignity.” — Afraid of being looked down upon huh? Do what you will with the info.
His Spotify Playlist
The Twitter thread above on overthrowing Kingdom expounded on the topics of the songs involving overthrowing authority and the struggles of choosing between evils, but one song, Caprice by Odezenne seems a little off-theme
The song is dedicated to the sister of one of the band members who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and her “heroic journey” to get out of it.
This seems like a crazy idea but I really don’t think Riot just randomly dropped it there
Not Really Conclusions, but Guesses For Now:
Kingdom may be covering up some adverse health effects that radianite has on people
Chamber knows this, is affected by it too, and wants to right things.
He worked with his double on the Fracture incident to stop some endeavor of Kingdom (that is maybe exploitative in nature, or just wrong for some other reason?)
The man isn’t afraid of death as long as he achieves “his bigger picture”, but he wants to make sure it’s clear that he doesn’t die as a bad guy for this.
So tell us, Rito, is our homicidal meow meow okay, or is he going to turn into Berlin from Money Heist?
Seems so far off which made me scared to post this but I know there’s people out there who’ve thought the same for lil Chambee. Wrote this HC/mini research after a lil convo about Chamber with @acekagari46 who gave really cool insights, so this is a hodgepodge of so many sources. I would joke that I need a life because of the length of this thing, but I guess we all have lives and this is just sorta like us hanging out in an underground society living double lives lmao.

Okay I just wanna pop by and say how much I loved your Cats video essay. I've never really delved far into the Cats fandom myself, but I do really like the stage show, and I generally just have a strong love for musical theatre and an equally strong hate for the trend of shitty live action remakes. I'll never turn down a good 2 hour video tearing apart a bad remake, but there's only so many times you can watch some guy with a review channel dispassionately go "lol, look at this nightmare fuel CGI. Isn't it weird that they're cats??? And they're singing??? Worst movie of 2019" before it just gets annoying.
Within 5 minutes of starting your video I was like. Oh okay. You're fandom trash. You are absolute fandom trash. This is going to be so good. You are going to tear this movie to fucking shreds. Because I know, from firsthand experience, that hell hath no fury like a fan scorned.
The moment you first made a hint towards Tuggofelees, I was like "yeah, okay, this person is the right person to be reviewing this movie." It really made me realize not just how much Cats 2019 failed as a movie, but also how deeply it failed its core demographic. Like... Idk, people like you should have been the target audience for this movie, but instead Tomothy basically entirely disregarded everything that the fandom likes about the show (the subtle bits of characterization, the relationships between the cats, the feeling of love and community that the jellicles share, even the unique and striking character designs). It really makes you wonder what the hell he thought the outcome here was gonna be.
While I loved Sideways' analysis, and Lindsey Ellis's too, because they both have a lot to say about Cats as an actual show, they're both lacking a certain... Je-ne-sais-quoi. And that je-ne-sais-quoi is the fervent passion of someone who knows this media I side and out and cares about these characters like family.
Anyways I've watched your video like 4 times and I'm gonna continue to do so.
Thank you so much! I literally have watched so few reviews of the movie because after a couple you get the basic gist of "yup movie bad" without explaining any actual reason besides the CGI. And the fact that I didn't see anyone ever talk about the characters made me want to talk about it when I finally watched it.
I never talk about anything on my channel unless I'm fandom trash about it. Otherwise I would get nothing done. I was going to make a different video about cats, and decided to watch the 2019 film for it, and literally got so mad I made the video about how bad the 2019 film was. Especially because nobody talked about the reasons it was actually bad.
I actually watched the DVD commentary for the movie recently and the basic thought process I think Tom had was a mix of "I remember this when I saw the show when I was 8" and "I want to work with this celebrity". Watching that made me hate the movie even more.
Personally I think Lindsey's video is good for the basic history of Cats and the overall problem of Hollywood adapting musicals badly. I think Sideways is good for understanding why they fucked up the basic story and the music, but I think Maggie Mae Fish may have the best video because she gets into the nitty gritty of the original TS Elliot Poems and why TS Elliot sucks...because he does.
Thank you for the views! I have plans for one more Cats video, but things happened in another fandom I'm in and I gotta make a video for that first

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting anything for the fandoms I'm part of as I get really insecure about what I post in the internet.... But this has been in my head for a long time already, especially since I have been shipping Rosegarden since the two cinnamon rolls met in Volume 5 and is my top ship besides Arkos (RIP Pyrrha, you will be missed). So here are my Headcannons for the two adorable beans, enjoy; ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
Ozpin is Ruby's Godfather by the insistence of Summer Rose (because in my head I believe they are close friends and is inspired by a fanfic in Ao3 by UndeadWitch) and secretly approves of Rosegarden after seeing how they support and is equally important to each other
Ruby loves poetry and secretly writes short love poems about her growing feelings for Oscar... While I adore the two beans being awkward around each other as they dance around their feelings leading to a cute and adorable confession, what if, Ruby confessed in a vague cryptic message that Oscar either did not notice the confession or is confused and asked the Wizard in his head for help only for said Wizard to chuckle amusedly and say that Oscar is on his own, knowing full well what Ruby has done.
If Oscar can cook, then Ruby can bake... Idk, I just have that belief that for Ruby, baking is easier than cooking.
Ruby can sing secretly, only Weiss knows... Sometimes, when Oscar gets nightmares, Ruby sings lullabies to him that she learned from her mom... Idk, it felt cute in my head
P. S. I may feel like some of these are like ooc but the show gave us little characterization of the characters, especially in terms of personal hobbies, likes and dislikes, etc.... Or maybe I just missed them while watching the series???

You're the fnaf mutual so I'm going to overthink in your inbox for two seconds. The company in game and books is aware of the terrible past, and is using old code to speed up programming things (the mimic joke here) but what if they are using more of the old technology from the old fnaf pizza places? Wouldn't giving their main attractions actual souls make them more life like and relatable to the public? You can literally talk with Freddy Fazbear, he has a personality and everything, isn't that amazing kids give us your parents money. They certainly used certain parts of the funtime designs for the glamrocks, that ice-cream cake and pinata chest cavity wasn't originally designed for that purpose. The scooper apparently still exists, if it's the original one how much soul juice does it still have/had in it?
I like the idea of greedy corrupt company going into an area and not realizing the consequences because they are too busy looking at the money. Not knowing all of the fine details about everything, not realizing how dire the consequences could get, with money-making in the way to blind them further. I don't know if they're getting this detailed with the story though, I'm just throwing stuff at a wall
I'm very tired so if possible I'll try to add on in the morning but this is pretty tricky to answer bc we got a lot from HW2 but not the main answers we were looking for.
I'm pretty confident rn that none of the animatronics are haunted, just super advanced AI (as was suppose to be the case in Sl before Pizzeria Sim happened(?)) otherwise the mimic virus wouldn't have corrupted them, Freddy not being affected may just have been bad writing or safe mode just wiped it out of him somehow idk. Also they make it quite clear almost all the souls have moved on besides a few.
The only thing we don't know about is all the Nightmarionne imagery, possibly/most likely a ghost that just refused to move on bc they knew what the company was doing and wants them to suffer. Dying on your birthday at Freddy's is one thing, but fianlly killing your murderer only for the company to profit off your death is another. And than to top it off a random endoskeleton LEARNS about William and decided to become him? What a fucking nightma(ionne)!
"Listen guys you all rest I'll go take care of the shit fest that's happening over there, alright? I'll call you if we need to trap someone in the nightmare dimension again"
From how I look at it SL was the branching off point for the advanced AI. Baby was a very advanced AI and the literal ringleader of the operation, she would use Ballora and FT Foxy as lures/distractions while she killed the kids and got FT Freddy to help hide the mess. She was also keen on manipulation "faking" being Elizabeth to earn the nightguard's trust and sympathy so she can scoop out his insides and live inside of him till the body rotten so much they had to stop their collaborative roleplay server for being outdated and jump ship. With this ultimately leading to Baby being kicked out for abusing admin.
Also about the Glamrocks using the Funtime's design, I think this was done so the company could cover the fact their animatroncis were literally designed to kill kids. Like oh no no the Freddy hatch was just for cake! See??? Just a simple reuse of the design to deflect instead of actually being the same design itself. Baby's was easier to defend bc she also literally did use it to produce ice cream, I'm guessing the claw was turned into a hand in HW2 because Scott looked at that and went "okay thats a bit too obvious lemme tweak it a bit" or someone at SW suggested the changed and Scott said yes bc it makes more sense. Chica's voicebox may have also been a reuse of FT Foxy's and Ballora's lures but thats more of a stretch.
Pizzeria Sim is,,,something. Baby's characterization basically goes out the window and she fully claims to be Elizabeth. Now a lot of people just accepted Baby really is Elizbaeth (which is the canon answer but idc). While in SL that was ambiguous (bc she was a manipulative genius!) All that gets pushed aside in Pizzeria Sim. What I like to think is that after being kicked out of Ennard and being apart of it for so long she just kinda lost herself, who was she? She wasn't Baby anymore she lost herself, her look, the hold she had on those around, she was like a lost child in that moment...maybe she was a lost child? Maybe she really was Elizabeth this whole time? And in that moment of weakness she fully convinced herself that she WAS Elizabeth, she was William's daughter, his creation.
An AI that convinces itself they are someone they aren't (sound familiar?)
In HW2 I just want to note, as other have, how Baby feels different. Shes her old self back from good old SL. Now you might say well yes of course she is, she doesnt get like that till Pizzeria Sim. But it should also be noted on how emphasize was placed on her and her alone, not the other Funtimes, and not certainly not Scrapbaby. They wanted to emphasize SL's Baby, the "advanced AI". What I'm hoping this is that its a roll back on the character, not necessarily a retcon but trying to fix her character a bit with how it was fucked in Pizzeria Sim.
Now a lot of people just accepted Baby really is Elizbaeth. While in SL that was ambiguous (bc she was a manipulative genius!) All that gets pushed aside in Pizzeria Sim. What I like to think is that after being kicked out of Ennard and being apart of it for so long she just kinda lost herself, who was she? She wans't Baby anymore she lost herself, her look, the hold she had on those around, she was like a lost child in that moment...maybe she was a lost child? Maybe she really was Elizabeth this whole time? And in that moment of weakness she fully convinced herself that she WAS Elizabeth, she was William's daughter, his creation.
An AI that convinces itself they are someone they aren't (sound familiar?)
So basically SL was the introduction of the advanced AI era, Pizzeria Sim got rid of most of the spirits (and helped trapped William in hell in UCN) and made the companies ads literally help fuck you over on nights which is pretty on the nose looking back, and SB was our formal introduction to the new era of Fazbear Ent and its consequences with HW2 tying them all into one game/one era (HW going up to SL and HW2 having SL and after in it)
Or maybe I just pulled most of that out of my ass bc when it boils down Baby ACTUALLY being Elizabeth and being such a "daddy's girl" instead of the manipulative genius she was in SL literally ruined her character in general idk (like yeah shes a traumatized child but the way it just happens still kinda sucks) . And also again I'm tired as hell!
I need to stop going on tangents lol
Edit: I was thinking of mentioning the fact that the megaplex is built over the pizzeria sim than I remembered Gregory just made that shit up lol (In RUIN I honestly can't tell what that area is under the megaplex, I think it's mentioned in the books?) Also sorry if this is kinda jumbled I just wanted to quickly fix a few things before posting bc I keep forgetting about this post and making it sit in my drafts sorrryyyy

Film Friday: The Cabin In The Woods
This is one of those movies that are so dangerously peebscore that I'm a little shocked I haven't written about it on here yet. As you may very well know, I love myself a horror movie and I love myself some metafiction. Then what could be more peebs than a meta horror movie? Well, perhaps if everyone was like 20% gayer it'd be perfect but as it stands, it's still pretty damn good. I would also like to say that if you haven't seen this movie, go and see it. Track it down on whatever streaming service it's hiding on now (or use other methods) and see it. If you have any love for horror movies in you, you should see this movie and you should see it without reading a word I have written about it. Trust me, it's for the best, the movie rocks. If you have seen it or won't under any circumstances, feel free to proceed, as here be spoilers.
Tumblr media
The setup for Cabin In The Woods is as classic horror as it gets. Dana and her four friends on various points of the nerd-jock spectrum go to a cabin in the woods to party. In fairness they do get to party, but that is not all; they awaken something old and evil that longs for murder. EXCEPT, that's only layer one, told parallel to yet another story altogether.
Layer two follows the two world-weary architects of said teens' suffering. Hadley and Sitterson work at the massive underground complex under the cabin from whence a world of nightmares may be unleashed on their unsuspecting victims. The Old Ones must be sated with a sacrifice of innocents straying from the path, and although it's messy work, it's nothing that can't be made sufficiently tedious with the application of bureaucracy. And so the tedium of office work gnaws at the edges. There's a betting pool for which horror will be unleashed this time, Hadley still holds out hope for a merman after all these years, and once the kills start rolling in, tension starts to be replaced with celebration. However, there are bigger forces at play than even this nameless organization, and once the layers start melding together, who's to say where it all ends up.
Tumblr media
In short, the central joke of Cabin In The Woods is that your cookie cutter-standard slasher plays out as our characters, decently characterized for a genre film start acting more and more according to stereotype all due to the manipulations of Hadley and Sitterson and their organization. Hadley and Sitterson needs the girl who dies first to act promiscuous and airheaded, and so they've added behavior-modifying chemicals to her (blond) hair dye. The protagonist's stoner friend Marty finds his mind dulled as the night progresses, although not quite as much as expected for some reason.
Tumblr media
The point where the movie turns from a clever bit of fun to a truly memorable experience though, is when it all goes off the rails. Hadley discovers that the sequence of murders is all wrong as Marty the Stoner did not die when he was supposed to, and in fact, starts helping Dana to navigate into the complex below the cabin. It is here where the stakes only alluded to so far become clear. If Marty doesn't die before sunrise, the ritual will fail, and the sacrifice will be unable to lull The Ancient Ones back to their slumber. This would mean nothing short of the end of the world.
Tumblr media
The movie quite elegantly switches gears. After playing the two stories with conflicting goals against each other for tension and/or black humor, like Kuleshov effect-cutting between a sex scene turned into a bloody murder and Hadley's unconcerned face, the thing now fuses its two plots into one with elegance. Hadley and Sitterson need to make sure Marty dies, and Dana is very done with losing friends, but who will come out on top when the continued existence of humanity is on the line.
It makes for a spectacular third act, in part because of the tension inherent in the conflicting goals above, and in part because it turns into an absolute bloody mess of horror movie references. To cover their escape, Dana unleashes every terror and murderer the complex has on tap, and they go about their merry murdering way on just about everyone they can get their appendages and/or tentacles on.
Tumblr media
It is very fun to see copyright-proof references to various horror icons, like the pinhead-like Lord Of Pain, generic zombies, Shining-style creepy twins, and the somehow more disturbing The Strangers-alike The Family, as well as the monster clowns, ghosts, werewolves, and other creatures of the night we've come to expect. Part of what makes the monster onslaught scenes so cool is the restraint with which they are used, which sounds like I'm talking out of my ass, but hear me out here.
The movie teases that there's a plethora of monsters that COULD be deployed on our poor college students, from the various objects meant to "summon" them, to the betting pool board in the complex, but we don't see them until Dana and Marty discover them. It's a powerful tool for showing the scale of this new struggle, as well as just being a feast for the horror nerd's eye. What I love most about it though? It was in none of the promotional material, not even alluded to beyond the fact that Something Else Is Going On. In a less confident movie, there'd be a year-long cross-promotion running in Fangoria featuring high-rez all-angles specials on all of these guys. Not Cabin In The Woods though, it knows what it has, and it knows that the sheer ludicrous scale of what it has is half of the trick.
Tumblr media
This isn't to say horror reference is all Cabin has, far from it. The meta angle remains strong, with the implied theme that we, the viewers, are The Old Ones. When a new hire asks the architect gang why it's important that the first victim is promiscuous and gets her tits out, they merely respond "We're not the only ones watching." In-universe, this of course refers to The Old Ones, but it's no accident that the various requirements of the ritual to contain them also are things that are known to put butts in horror-watching seats. A bit of nudity sells, but not so much that it becomes conspicuous, and people who have sex are frequently dispatched shortly thereafter, puritan thoughts about sex and Hays-era moralism still haunt many a producer's office after all.
It's not only for the fun of creating a dietetic explanation for horror tropes, it does add a pretty clever touch to the third act. We want our protagonists Dana and Marty to succeed, as they have shown themselves to be more than the 2D stereotypes we assumed they were, but on the other, we can't escape the recognition that all this suffering is heaped on them for our benefit, to get us watching and keep us watching because if we cease watching, the sequels stop, the money stops, this world, in particular, ends.
Tumblr media
It all leads up to an ending that I find both perfect and deeply frustrating. Frankly, this is not a jab at the movie, it is, I would argue, the perfect ending for the story it has told. The slight frustration is a feature, even if you're on team "Sacrificing a handful of people at a time in perpetuity isn't more moral than letting the whole flawed system collapse under its own weight" like I am. It's honestly really cool because while I think the ending supports my reading, I also do think it supports a different one, especially if the movie is read as a metaphor for horror franchise filmmaking.
Tumblr media
So in short, Cabin in the Woods is a really clever movie, and it kind of feels like the progenitor of the current wave of "elevated horror" or "art horror" or whatever you call the genre of horror where the monster is a metaphor for patriarchy or post-natal depression or sexual anxiety, but also is a physical monster that will eat your whole. As a fan of both those kinds of horror movies and the considerably more lighthearted fare where the question is "how many semi-humorous ways can you murder college kids with garden implements," I can hardly recommend it enough.

🌠 Does your muse find meaning in their dreams? Do they try to interpret them?
While Hanzo realizes trying to interpret dreams and finding meaning in them may be a fascinating endeavor, he knows his dreams are highly personal and subjective and they are almost always originating from his past trauma. He can categorize the kinds he frequently has into a few kinds.
Re-experiencing traumatic events: Hanzo often has nightmares or intrusive dreams related to Shirai Ryu massacre and his family being killed. Whether it is from Bi-Han (Lin Kuei) himself or Quan Chi in disguise of the cryomancer, whenever Hanzo has these dreams, they are always extremely vivid, gruesome and intense, causing him distress and disrupting sleep. And as Hanzo is characterized by a person equipped with heightened emotional intensity, emotions such as sadness, anger, or feelings of helplessness may become prominent in his dreams, reflecting the emotional impact of the trauma.
Symbolic representation: His trauma can manifest symbolically in dreams rather than being directly represented. Symbols, themes, or emotions related to his traumatic experience may appear in dreams, offering a way for the subconscious mind to process and cope with the trauma. In Hanzo's case, such dreams exhibit death and rebirth - and through the image of Phoenix (through his literal death and becoming Netherrealm specter, entirely identifying himself not as Hanzo Hasashi, but as Scorpion), ouroboros (similar idea of an eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth), kintsugi ('golden joinery,' in a literal sense, but mostly in a metaphorical sense that Hanzo has deeper sense of resilience and strength. Kintsugi also reminds him of the impermanence of all things – nothing stays forever. Like a piece of pottery, his life is infused with fragility, setbacks and unpredictability), and so on.
Fragmentation and disorganization: Hanzo's trauma can disrupt his normal sleep cycle and lead to fragmented or disorganized dreaming. It also causes him to be extremely vigilant as he is a very light sleeper. Dreams may feel chaotic or disjointed, mirroring the fragmented nature of his traumatic memories. Most of his fragmented and disjointed dreams are either flashbacks or intrusive memories of the traumatic event.
The only conclusion Hanzo can arrive at with these dreams is to simply gain insight into his subconscious (if he hasn't done that already with countless, recurrent dreams and nightmares), and better understand himself.
