hi I love your writing so much
can u write a blurb of max and Julia and fin where they got in trouble at school and reader and max got called called for a parent’s meeting
Cw: kid being bullied
Note: thank you ✨️
"Did you notice anything weird lately?", you asked Max as he parked the car, "nope, they have been fine, they don't complain about anything, I'm not sure why they did this", he said, holding your hand once you were out of the car and walking into the school. After a quick chat with the secretary at the front to let the principal know you were there, you were welcomed to the office, Julia and Finn sitting in the chairs, feet swinging since they couldn't reach the floor.
"Thank you for coming", the principal said, shaking your and Max's hand, "I think it's best if they explains why I called you here", he said, sitting down as you did the same, facing your kids.
"We were in the playground, and we noticed there was a group of boys being mean to Lyla - she's the new girl I told you about, mama -, and they were calling her those words you told us were mean and bad", Julia said, "so I went up to Finn and his friends because I thought they could help since the boys calling her names were from the year behind them", your daughter reasoned.
"I went there with my friends to talk and then they took our football", Finn continued, "because of that, I tried to go get the ball back and when the other boy wad dribbling away from me, I ran and I nudged the ball as he was kicking it so the ball went on the window and it shattered", Finn said.
By the way your husband was closing his fists, you figured he was thinking about the same things and worried about the same issue as you, a different worry from the principal it seemed.
"I know I shouldn't have done that, and I'm sorry that I broke the window", Finn turned to the principal, "and I'm sorry if we disappointed you, but we wasn't going to let them carry on!", Julia reasoned as you and Max looked at both of them.
"We have also spoken to the other kids' parents, you were the last ones. Fortunately, it was the cleaning supplies' closet and no ine was there, so no one got hurt", the principal attempted to gain your attention as you both kept looking at your kids.
"Both me and my wife appreciate you telling us, but the only issue here is that you're allowing this in your school. We can pay for the window if that is your problem, but I'd like you to reflect on the whole situation", Max stated calmly.
"As you can imagine, we don't always have control of everything", the principal excused himself.
"Me or my husband won't apologise for what happened. Like you said, no one was harmed, but you should look into paying more attention to Lyla, it's not the first time it was brought to my attention that the little girl is being bullied and no adult seems to be worried about it, when that is in fact where your worry should be", you followed, tone stern and convict.
Leaving the money they asked for the repair, you and Max split up to go with each kid to their classrooms and get their backpacks, "I'm sorry they were mean Lyla, my love, but you did well in defending hour friend, it's a shame they didn't listen to you", you said as you looked at Finn towards the end of the sentence.
"It's not fair", Finn complained, "this principal isn't nice, I don't like him", he pouted.
"Finn, sometimes things don't go our way, and we shouldn't say that about people, okay?", Max lectured as he drove home, squeezing your thigh ans whispering, "as much as I believe what I just said, I have to agree. Since they changed principal, the priorities have been a bit all over tha place", he commented, "might be a good time to reconsider schools", you noted.
(Thank you for submitting an ask ✨️)

Blood and Roses Part 3
Chapter Summary: Everyone is still struggling with the aftermath of Eddie's return. Eddie gets a chance to prove he can be trusted.
Series Summary and Characters posted in Part One.
Warnings: Angst, reader is assaulted, Eddie is violent with reader's attacker, blood. reader and Steve argue again. Also no one hate me for this, but it's revealed that Max died.
Part 1 2
You make it to the butcher shop and back without any trouble. Since the earthquake and fire, the whole town has gone to hell. More than half of its citizens had fled, and a lot of those that stayed behind considered the city their own personal playground. They would loot, vandalize, and even attack people for sport.
It's dark out. An almost permanent black cloud had settled over the town. Occasionally the sun would peek through, but it was a rare occasion. You missed it.
You’re getting out of the car when a random man approaches you.
“Hey, miss, you got the time?”
You’re instantly on guard. “No, sorry. I don’t wear a watch.”
He frowns. “Damn. Do you maybe got anything to eat? I’m starving.”
“Again, sorry. I’m not carrying anything with me.” No way were you inviting him in the house.
He eyes your bag. “Looks like you got plenty.”
“It’s not food.”
He snorts and grabs your arm. “We’ll see.”
You kick at him. “Let go of me!”
He backhands you into the car. You cry out and drop the bag, blood splattering everywhere.
“What the fuck? What is this? You sick bitch, look at my clothes!” He lifts his hand to strike you again. You brace yourself for the blow, but it never comes.
You realized your eyes are screwed shut. You open them to see Eddie standing in front of you, holding the guy up in the air by his throat.
“Eddie, stop. Let him go, please!"
He squeezes his throat tighter.
"Eddie, don't!"
He looks at you. "Are you hurt? Is this your blood?"
"No, no, it's animal blood! I'm fine! Put him down."
Eddie glares at the man. "I see you around here again and you're fucking dead, do you hear me?"
He struggles to nod, slapping at Eddie’s arm and panicking. Eddie drops him on the ground and kicks him.
“Get the fuck out of here, you piece of shit."
You watch as the man runs off, looking horrified. He trips and falls, glancing back over his shoulder as he sprints away.
Eddie turns to you, cupping your face in his hands. "Are you okay? Are you sure you aren't hurt?"
"How are you out here? Did they untie you?"
He looks down guiltily. "Not exactly."
"Eddie?"
"I have, like, supernatural hearing now. I could hear what he was saying, heard him slap you."
"But you were tied in chains, how did you-"
He still won't meet your eyes. "I, uh…"
Steve and Dustin come sprinting outside. Steve takes one look at you drenched in blood and slams Eddie into your car.
"Dustin get her inside, get help!"
"Steve, Jesus, this isn't my blood! I dropped the bag from the butcher. Can everyone please calm the FUCK down?"
Eddie shoves Steve. "Get off me, man, I was helping her."
Steve slams him into the car again.
"Steve, stop! It's true! Some random guy attacked me. Eddie ran him off."
Dustin grips your arm, looking terrified. "We left him alone for a few minutes. I heard a bang, the chains were in pieces on the floor, we didn't-"
"Shh, shh, I'm fine. I promise I'm okay. He didn't hurt me." You reassure him.
"Tell us the truth. Did you know you could break those chains the whole time?" Steve demands.
Eddie hesitates, then nods. "I mean, yeah, I figured I could. They weren't heavy or anything."
"They're like an inch thick!"
"Wait, so you were just pretending to be restrained? You could have gotten out any time?" Dustin asks.
Eddie nods slowly.
Steve huffs. "So you lied to us. We weren't safe at all."
You shake your head. "Steve, no. Don't you see? He could have attacked us at any time but he didn't! I'm standing here covered in blood and he hasn't touched me."
"He still lied!"
"What choice did he have!? You've been treating him like an animal!"
"I've been trying to keep us all alive!"
"Who died and made you boss!?"
"Who else has to die, Y/N?"
You step back, recoiling as if he'd slapped you.
Eddie glances back and forth between the two of you. "Who…who died?"
Dustin clears his throat. "Um, Max. She…she didn't make it."
Eddie slumps. "Red? What happened?"
"Vecna got her. She lived a little while afterwards, but the doctors couldn't, they couldn't-"
You squeeze Dustin's shoulder.
Eddie sighs, rubbing his face.
"I'm just trying to keep the rest of us alive." Steve repeats softly.
"I shouldn't have come back. I don't know why I thought- I'm gonna go." Eddie says.
You grab his arm. "Eddie, no, please. Don't leave."
"Steve's right. You guys can't trust me. I get it."
"No, Steve can't trust you, but I do. I do!"
"Y/N." Steve protests.
You turn and jab a finger at his chest. "If I have to lose him again, because of you, I will never forgive you. I swear to God, Steve, I will hate you."
Eddie looks stunned. You siding with him over Steve was the last thing he expected. You and Steve had always been close, two peas in a pod. He figured that had only intensified after everything had gone to hell.
"Fine. He stays. But he's still under watch and if he takes one step out of line-"
"I won't." Eddie interrupts. "I swear."
Steve doesn't look convinced, but drops it.
You sigh. "Now can I please go shower? This blood is starting to dry and it's so sticky."
__________
You stay in the shower as long as you can, scrubbing until your skin is red. You figure your clothes are pretty much ruined, so you throw them into the wastebasket before toweling off. Robin knocks on the door and opens it a few inches, sticking clean clothes through the crack.
"Thank you."
"Are you okay?"
"I haven't been okay in weeks." You admit.
"Get dressed. I'll make you some tea."
You get dressed and run a brush through your hair, scowling at your reflection in the mirror. In the past few weeks, you'd lost weight, gained undereye circles, and had various scrapes and bruises that were slow to heal. You barely recognized yourself.
You head into the kitchen.
Eddie is sitting at the table, sipping blood from a coffee mug. He looks embarrassed, but you squeeze his shoulder reassuringly.
"Feeling better?" He asks, reaching up to lay his hand on yours.
You nod. "I'm fine. Thank you, for everything."
"Don't mention it."
Robin sets a cup of tea in front of you. "Drink. You look pale."
You sit down and sip it slowly. "Someone's gotta go back to the butcher, replace what I-"
"Nancy and Mike are on it."
"Good deal."
"I'm sorry for being so much trouble." Eddie mumbles. "I'm sorry for all of it."
"Hey, none of this is your fault. You didn't ask for this, Eddie. None of us did."
"I should have stayed away. I didn't think-"
"Enough." You say firmly, taking his hand in yours. "We're glad you're back. We missed you."
"Maybe you and Dustin did, but-"
"Hey now, I missed you!" Robin protests. "Maybe not as much as Y/N and Dustin, but we weren't besties and I wasn't in love with you, still I really did…oh…shit."
You clench your mug so tightly your knuckles turn white. You refuse to look up, refuse to see the expression on Eddie's face.
"Y/N, I…" Robin stutters.
You stand up, pouring your tea into the sink and rinsing out your cup.
Neither Robin or Eddie say anything as you walk out of the room.
Robin turns to Eddie. "I didn't mean that like it sounded. I didn't mean Y/N was in love with you, I was just saying that you and I weren't really friends or romantically involved, well obviously not romantically involved because you're not the type I like, but I'm just-"
"Robin. It's fine. Steven basically told me already. I just haven't said anything to Y/N because I don't know what to say."
"Oh. Okay, well, can you please tell her you already knew? I wouldn't say you heard it from Steve, it might be the final nail in their coffin, but if you could shift the blame off me a little-"
"I'm not talking about it. It doesn't matter now."
"Wait, why not?"
"Because I'm a fucking vampire and we're basically in the middle of the apocalypse. How would we ever make it work?"
"I gotta ask, and feel free to tell me to mind my own business, but before all this happened, did you-"
"Yeah. I loved her. I just didn't know how to tell her. I always thought she and Steve were gonna wind up together. They were so close. I didn't think she would want someone like me."
"I really think you should talk to her."
"I can't. I can see it on her face, I've already broken her heart more than once. I won't hurt her again."
"Maybe there's a way."
"People like me don't get happy endings with people like her. My story isn't gonna be filled with romance and roses. It's blood and war now."
"Why can't it be both?"
"You really think that's what she deserves? A life of going to the butcher shop for me, hiding me out from the town, hiding from the sun? She deserves more. I won't do that to her. I wasn't good enough for her before this happened, I'm damn sure not good enough for her now."
"I don't think that's true, Eddie. You're still you. And she's still her."
"Robin, drop it." He warns. "My mind is made up."
She sighs. "I get it. I do. But Y/N won't."
"She will eventually."
"I think you're underestimating her. She could handle this. She's stronger than you think."
"I know she is. But I'm not. And I won't do this to her."
Robin nods. "Just be careful. You have no idea the hell she's been through without you."

"Down the block there's an antique shop" "something in my head said stop, so I walked in" "On the counter was a cardboard box" "And the sign said, 'Photos twenty five cents each" "Black and white, saw a thirties bride and school lovers laughing on the porch of their first house" "The kinda love that you can only find once in a lifetime" "The kind you don't put down" "And that's when I called you and it's so hard to explain, but in those photos I saw us instead" "somehow I know that you and I would've found each other" "In another life, you still would've turned my head" "On a crowded street in 1944" "you werе headed off to fight in the war" "You still would've been mine" "We would have been timeless" "I would've read your love letter every single night" "prayed to God you'd be coming home all right" "you would've been fine" "We would have been timeless" "'Cause I believe that we were supposed to find this" "So even in a different life, you still would've still been mine" "I had to smile when it caught my eye" "There was one of a teenage couple on the driveway" "Holding hands on the way to a dance and the date on the back said 1958" "Which brought me back to the first day I saw you" "Time stood still like something in this old shop" "I thought about it as I started looking 'round at these precious things that time forgot" "That's when I came upon a book covered in cobwebs" "Story of a romance tore apart by fate" "Hundreds of years ago they fell in love like we did" "And I'd die for you in the same way" "In the fifteen hundreds off in a foreign land" "And I was forced to marry another man" "Time breaks down your mind and body" "Don't you let it touch your soul" "It was like an age old classic" "The story started when you said "hello"" "In a crowded room a few short years ago" "And sometimes there's no proof, you just know" "I'm gonna love you when our hair is turning grey" "We'll have a cardboard box of photos of the life we made" "And you'll say, "Oh my, we really were timeless""

Note
this one has succession potential :) “Tomorrow is Take Your Kid to Work Day.”
Shiv is more than happy to let Tom tuck the girls into bed tonight-- their third daughter, just a few weeks from making her entrance into the world, is taking up all her energy these days, and she feels like she herself could use a seven-thirty bedtime as well.
Walking past the nursery, though, she overhears a conversation that makes her pause outside the door.
"Lainey, Genevieve," Tom says, "are you excited to come see where Mommy and Daddy work tomorrow?"
There are sleepy, high-octave noises of excitement, but Shiv sticks her head in the doorway to make eye contact with her husband. "Tom," she hisses, "what?"
He blinks up at her, his work shirt rumpled, his eyes deep and calm. "Tomorrow is take your kid to work day."
"Okay, well, we're not doing that," Shiv says, grimacing and avoiding the curious gazes of her daughters, who are already enticed by the offer. "That-- that doesn't apply to the CEO-- right?"
"Why shouldn't it?" Tom cocks his head, his lips pressed together, the expression somewhere between confused and guilt-tripping. Shiv glares.
"Because you're going to parade them around for ten minutes and then feed them ice cream for lunch and then use them to push me out of anything you can get away with calling 'important' as if this one isn't already doing that," she snaps, gesturing to her belly under her dressing gown. "I had to suffer through the same bullshit when I was their age--" she doesn't want to get into that. Six years out and she can't talk about her father without crying or yelling, neither of which she wants to do in her daughters' room. "--besides, Gen has school."
"Do I have to?" Genevieve interjects.
"Yes," Shiv says shortly.
"I thought it was scheduled for before schools went back from Winter Break," Tom tries.
Shiv rolls her eyes. "Did you forget the part where we're paying the GDP of a small country to have her in private school? The schedule's different, Tom."
"Mommyyyyyy, why not?" Lainey pleads, the last word turning into a whine.
Shiv sighs, resists the urge to roll her eyes, and sits down on her youngest daughter's bed instead. "Because, honey," she says, as patient as she can, "Mommy and Daddy are both very busy. It's not fun for you guys while you're so small. We have to do important work, and if we're worried about you two wandering off or getting into trouble, we won't be able to work well. You would just be watching shows or coloring like you do with Chloe, but it wouldn't even be that fun because we won't be able to do it with you."
Genevieve's brow furrows first. "That's boring."
Shiv nods in agreement, matching the ridiculously serious expression on her daughter's face. "It is."
"Don't wanna go work," Lainey declares, her voice full of the whining vowels and blurry consonants of toddlerhood. "Wanna go playground."
"It might be too cold for that, sweetheart," Tom interjects.
Shiv glares at him, wishing he would get her pretty fucking clear message to shut his mouth. "We'll see, honey. You can ask Chloe in the morning."
Lainey nods, seeming satisfied. "Tired now."
Genevieve pouts. "Noooo, I don't wanna go to bed. One more book?"
"We've already read three, honey," Tom says, but Shiv reaches around her belly and her daughter curled into her side and pulls Goodnight Moon from the nightstand.
"I've got them," she tells her husband. "You can get ready for bed."
Tom stands but hovers, looking uncertain.
Shiv adjusts Lainey where she's pillowed against her sensitive breasts and wraps her other arm around Gen. "Go," she insists. "I'll stay here for a while."
Tom finally leaves, and the tension in the room disappears. Relieved, Shiv reads until she's hoarse and her girls are both asleep, and then, in the middle of the large but not-big-enough nursery bed, she falls asleep herself.

Jin Guangyao isn't cruel because he is nice sometimes! No... no... just no. He pretends to be a nice, sweet person to get what he wants, it is exactly why he got away with the killings and plannings for the Yin Hu Fu, YEARS AFTER JIN GUANGSHAN IS OUT OF THE PICTURE. He's the only legitimate Jin left old enough to take over the Sect, who the hell was gonna argue that when all relevant Jins were dead and Nie Mingjue was killed by the happy smiling pretty boy?
First example, he was actively friends with Xue Yang, there is no saying he was coerced into that one since he recommended him as a guest disciple and made creepy little jokes with him.
Jin GuangYao sighed, “I only turned around for a second and you stirred up so much trouble for me. I only had to pay for a bowl of dumplings in the beginning, and now I have to pay for his table, chairs, pots and pans, and even bowls.”
Xue Yang, “You’ll miss the couple of coins?”
Jin GuangYao, “No.”
Xue Yang, “Then why are you sighing?”
Jin GuangYao, “I don’t think you’ll miss the couple of coins either. Why can’t you try being a normal customer once in a while?”
Xue Yang, “Back in Kuizhou I never paid for anything I wanted. Just like this.” As he spoke, he casually plucked off a stick of sugared haws off a vendor’s pole. It might be the first time the vendor saw such a shameless person. As he stared open-mouthed, Xue Yang took a bite, “Besides, you can deal with the trouble of me wrecking a tiny stall, can’t you?”
Jin GuangYao smiled, “You little delinquent. Wreck stalls however you want. I wouldn’t even care if you burned down the entire street. Just one thing—don’t wear the Stars Amidst Snow robes and cover up your face. Don’t let anyone know who did it, or it’d be trouble for me.”
He tossed the money to the vendor
A.K.A: haha you're funny and I don't care who you fuck over but be sly and
Tumblr media
Next example:
And so, Jin GuangShan sought after all those who imitated Wei WuXian in cultivating the ghostly path and gathered them under his rule. He spent a great amount of money and resources on these people, ordering them to study and analyze the structure of the Tiger Seal in secrecy so that they could replicate and restore it. Among them, not many achieved anything, while the one who walked the furthest was the youngest Xue Yang, recommended by Jin GuangYao alone.
Jin GuangYao was overjoyed. He accepted him as a guest cultivator and gave him high rights and freedom. The corpse training ground was an area of land Jin GuangYao specially requested for Xue Yang for him to research in secrecy, which meant for him to fool around however he wanted to.
He gave a whole torture playground for Xue Yang to use, he specifically asked for this from his own mouth, for Xue Yang to use and he would check in on progress. As for his morals:
Jin GuangYao’s tone was somewhat reproachful, “He Su gongzi is a respected cultivator, after all. How could you refer to him in such a disrespectful way?”
The cultivator laughed coldly, “I’ve already fallen in your hands. What are you keeping up the pretense for?”
Jin GuangYao responded with a kind expression, “You don’t have to look at me like that. I also had no choice. To elect a chief cultivator is an irresistible trend. What was the use of stirring up trouble and seeking arguments everywhere? I’ve already warned you again and again, yet you were determined not to listen to me. Under these circumstances, things are already beyond redemption. From the bottom of my heart, I, too, feel utmost pain and regret.”
He Su, “What was the irresistible trend? What was stirring up trouble? Jin GuangShan wanted to establish the position of chief cultivator only to imitate the QishanWen Sect in being the only one at the top. Do you think all the world is ignorant? You frame me like this only because I spoke the truth!”
Jin GuangYao smiled, saying nothing. He Su continued, “When you really succeed, all of the world of cultivation would see the true face of the LanlingJin Sect. Do you think killing me alone would put you eternally at ease? How wrong you are! We, the TingshanHe Sect, teem with talent. From now on, we’ll unite and never surrender to you Wen-dogs of another skin!”
Hearing this, Jin GuangYao squinted slightly, the corners of his lips curving up. It was the usual kind, gentle expression. Seeing this, He Su felt his heart skip a beat. At the same time, commotion sounded outside the corpse training ground, among it the cries of women and children.
He Su spun around, only to see a group of LanlingJin Sect cultivators drag inside sixty or seventy people all wearing the same uniform. There were men and women, old and young. Every one of them was a cross between shock and fear, while some were already crying. Both tied up, a girl and a boy kneeled on the ground as they wailed at He Su, “Ge!”
He Su was shocked speechless, his face instantly as white as paper, “Jin GuangYao! What are you doing?! It’s enough if you kill me—why drag my entire sect along?!”
Jin GuangYao looked down and fixed his sleeves, still grinning, “Weren’t you yourself the one who reminded me just now? Even if I killed you, I wouldn’t be put eternally at ease. The TingshanHe Sect teems with talent, and from now on, you’d unite and never surrender—I was quite frightened. After much thought, this was the only thing I could come up with.”
Among the group are children. That he did see and stare at gleefully as he lets Xue Yang decide to use all of them for corpse experiments. What does that mean??? Maybe that Jin Guangyao is also not in fact best uncle as he similarly was willing to kill Jin Ling who he "loved" as bait to try running away and is more than willing to use his "friends" for his own rise to power or to run away.
Examples of him enjoying emotionally torturing others as much as Xue Yang as a tactic:
Example 1:
“That’s not the way to go about things, is it? The TingshanHe Sect rebelled and schemed to assassinate Sect Leader Jin with all its forces before it was caught red-handed. How could that be called without a reason?”
The ones overhead cried, “Ge! He’s lying! We didn’t, we didn’t!”
He Su, “Utter nonsense! Open your eyes and fucking look! There are nine-year-old children here! Old men who can’t even walk! How could they rebel against anything?! Why would they assassinate your dad out of nowhere?!”
Jin GuangYao, “Because you made a mistake and committed murder, Young Master He Su, while they refused to accept Koi Tower’s conviction of you, of course.”
He Su finally remembered the accusation for which he was transferred to such a creepy place, “It’s all made up! I never killed a cultivator of the LanlingJin Sect! I’ve never even seen the person who died! I don’t even know if he was really a cultivator from your sect! I… I…”
He stammered for a while before eventually caving in, “I… I don’t even know what happened, I don’t even know!”
Yet, at such a place, nobody would listen to his protests.
Example 2:
Just as he was about to move, Jin GuangYao smiled, “HanGuang-Jun, it’s best if you take five steps back.”
Wei WuXian suddenly felt a small, sharp sting come from his neck. Lan XiChen lowered his voice, “Be careful. Do not move!”
Lan WangJi’s gaze landed on Wei WuXian’s neck. His face paled slightly.
An almost invisible guqin string, light and golden, was tied around Wei WuXian’s neck.
The guqin string was extremely thin. It was covered in special paint as well, making it almost invisible to the eye. Along with how disoriented Wei WuXian was, unable to pay attention to anything else, he didn’t notice it when it wrapped around his throat.
“Lan Zhan, don’t! Don’t back away!”
But Lan WangJi immediately walked five steps back without any hesitation.
Jin GuangYao, “Wonderful. Now, please sheathe Bichen.”
With a clank, Lan WangJi obeyed again. Wei WuXian raged, “Don’t ask for too much!”
Jin GuangYao quipped, “This is already asking for too much? Next, I’m even going to ask HanGuang-Jun to seal away his spiritual powers. What would that be called?”
Wei WuXian seethed, “You…”
Before he could finish, the sharp pain of flesh being lacerated came from his throat. Something dripped down his neck. Lan WangJi’s face was pale. Jin GuangYao said, “How could he not listen to me? Just think about it, Wei gongzi, his life is in my hands.”
Lan WangJi spoke one word at a time, “Do. Not. Touch. Him.”
“Then you know what to do, HanGuang-Jun.”
A moment later, Lan WangJi responded, “Yes.”
Lan XiChen sighed. Lan WangJi raised his hands. With two strong taps, he locked his own spiritual powers.
Jin GuangYao smiled, his voice soft, “This really is…”
Lan WangJi’s eyes were locked on them, “Let him go.”
Example 3:
Wei WuXian wouldn’t have had to be responsible for a life as heavy as Jin ZiXuan’s, and the things that happened later wouldn’t have had to happen.
Yet now, he finally realized even the reason behind culprit’s curse wasn’t to frame him. Even the cause didn’t have anything to do with him!
Such a fact was truly difficult to accept.
As he laughed, Wei WuXian’s eyes reddened. He mocked, whether at himself or otherwise, “I can’t believe it’s because of someone like you… because of such a ridiculous reason!”
But Jin GuangYao seemed like he knew what he thought, “Wei gongzi, you really shouldn’t think like this.”
Wei WuXian, “Oh? You know what I think?”
Jin GuangYao, “Of course. It’s quite easy. You’re definitely thinking about how unfortunate you are. In reality, you’re not. Even if Su She didn’t curse Jin ZiXun, Mr. Wei, you’d receive a siege sooner or later, because of some other reason.” He smiled, “Because that’s what kind of a person you are. At best, you’re the untamed hero; at worst, you offend people wherever you go. Unless all those whom you’ve offended lived their lives safely, as soon as something happened to them or someone did something to them, the first person they suspect would be you and the first person they seek revenge on would also you. And this is something you have no control over.”
Somehow, Wei WuXian smiled, “What should I do? For some reason, I think you make a lot of sense.”
Jin GuangYao, “And even if you didn’t lose control at the Qiongqi Path, could you guarantee you didn’t lose control sometime in the rest of your life? Thus, someone like you is destined to have a short life. You see? Doesn’t it feel a lot better if you think about it this way?”
He takes little time in using others hurt or their protective instincts against them, and is just as gleeful to see others in powerless situations in comparison to him as it still gives him a form of control to worm his way out of everything that has caught up to him.
Jin GuangYao, “Ge, every word of what I say is true.”
His tone was more than earnest. Ever since he captured Lan XiChen, he’d indeed been treating him with respect. At this point, Lan XiChen wasn’t able to turn against him yet. He could only sigh, “Sect Leader Jin, I have already said, when you went your own way to scheme such havoc at Burial Mound, that there was no longer any need to call me ‘Brother.’”
Jin GuangYao, “What happened at Burial Mound was an accident, a mistake. But, I can’t go back anymore.”
Lan XiChen, “What do you mean you cannot go back?”
Lan WangJi frowned slightly, his voice cold, “Xiongzhang, do not engage in excessive conversation with him.”
Wei WuXian reminded him as well, “Sect Leader Lan, do you remember what you said to Sect Leader Jiang? Don’t spend too long talking to him.”
Jin GuangYao, “Ge, listen to me. I don’t deny that I did those things…”
Lan XiChen, “How could you deny them? There are both witnesses and proof!”
Jin GuangYao, “And so I said I don’t deny them! But to have killed my father, my wife, my son, ge—if not because I had no other choice, why would I have done those things? Could it be that I’m really so out of my mind in your eyes?!”
"Your… wife…” As though he couldn’t say it, he immediately changed his phrasing, "Your sister, Qin Su, did you really marry her while knowing what blood relationship you had with her?”
Jin GuangYao stared blankly at him. Suddenly, tears rolled down his eyes. He answered with pain, “… Yes.” Lan XiChen took in a deep breath. His face was almost ashen. Jin GuangYao whispered, "But I really had no choice.”
With a sigh, Lan XiChen continued, “Third, do not try to avoid it and answer me—did you plan the death of Jin ZiXuan on purpose?!”
Hearing his father’s name, Jin Ling, who’d been holding Jiang Cheng, widened his eyes.
Lan WangJi raised his voice somewhat, “Xiongzhang, you believe him?”
Lan XiChen’s expression was complicated, “Of course I do not believe that Jin ZiXuan ran into the attack at Qiongqi Path by accident, but… let him speak first.”
Jin GuangYao knew he wouldn’t be believed if he denied it no matter what. He clenched his teeth, “… I indeed didn’t run into Jin ZiXuan by accident.”
Jin Ling immediately clenched his fists.
Jin GuangYao continued, “But I’ve never thought of planning everything that happened afterward either. You don’t have to think of me as so clever and faultless. Many things can’t be controlled at all. How could I have known that he’d definitely die by Wei WuXian’s hands together with Jin ZiXun? How could I have predicted that Wei WuXian would definitely lose control and the Ghost General would definitely run a riot?”
Wei WuXian’s voice was harsh, “And you said you didn’t run into him by accident? Isn’t that self-contradiction?!”
Jin GuangYao, “I don’t deny that I told him about the attack at Qiongqi Path on purpose, but I only thought that he’d encounter some difficulties if he ran into you when you were being troubled by his cousin since he’d never been on good terms with you. How could I have known that you would simply kill everyone present, Wei gongzi?”
“Why was a sect leader who spent money like water unwilling to do the smallest favor and buy my mother’s freedom? Simple—it was too much trouble. My mother waited for so many years, weaving together so many difficult circumstances when she talked to me, imagining for his sake so many hardships. And the real reason was only a single word: trouble.
“This is what he said, ‘It’s especially women who’ve read some books who think they’re a level higher than other women. They’re the most troublesome, with so many demands and unrealistic thoughts. If I bought her freedom and took her back to Lanling, who knows how much fuss she’d make. It was best that I let her stay where she was just like that. With her conditions, she’d probably be popular for a few more years. She wouldn’t have to worry about her spendings for the rest of her life.’
“‘Son? Oh, forget it.’”
Jin GuangYao’s memory was extraordinary. With such a word-by-word repetition, one could even imagine that drunk expression of Jin GuangShan’s when he said these words, “Ge, look, those three words were all that I was worth to my father, ‘Oh, forget it.’ Hahahaha…”
Pain flashed before Lan XiChen’s face, “Even if your father… you…” He still couldn’t find an appropriate comment and gave up, sighing instead, “What is the use of saying all this now?”
Jin GuangYao shrugged as he smiled, “I can’t help it. To seek pity even after doing all these terrible things—that’s the kind of person I am.”
At the word ‘pity’, he suddenly flipped his wrist. A red guqin string wrapped around Jin Ling’s neck.
Tears still hung at the corners of Jin GuangYao’s eyes as he spoke, voice low, “Don’t move!”
"I had no choice", "I couldn't predict anyone would be killed" "He mocked and forgot my mother and I". He uses all of this as a try to convince a kind Lan Xichen to let him go. However,he contradicts his own defenses as he had said Wei Wuxian was always fated to die for his actions and lack of being to keep things under control. This empathy is faked on his end while he makes excuses all while he never extended the same courtesy to those he killed, innocent or not, and underhandedly still tries to get those sympathetic under his manipulations. When they are not working he resorts again to threatening lives. He uses his mother also as a reason for revenge, however his grab for power alone after Jin Guangshan and Nie Mingjue are killed was solely based on his own obsession of status at that point. His mother was no longer a goal to accomplish anything and his continued lies dragged in more than one innocent party to get what he wanted.
He never saw Jin Ling, Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji, or Wei Wuxian as anything but pawns despite his soft words to them that are really just a mockery within Guanyin Temple at that point. He has placed none of them before himself in terms of what he cares for and never had.
TL:DR: Jin Guangyao's "kindness" was always a mask and Nie Mingjue was right that he was irredeemable, genuinely unkind and cruel as a person.
(Edit: Jin Guangyao stans don't even try, I will block you if you dare to reply to this)

Better Than Revenge
I’ve been seeing a few posts on this lately, so I wanted to do some analysis. The mainstream narrative of this song is that Taylor and Joe Jonas broke up (in the infamous 27 second phone call) and Joe then immediately dated Camilla Belle.
It does seem that this song is about that triangle, but rather than it being real relationships, a closer look shows that it was about Taylor’s beard being used by Camilla Belle.
Additionally, this song serves the purpose of getting more publicity for all involved in the triangle, although it definitely seems like Camilla Belle got the short stick. Joe Jonas & Taylor both got a lot of press from their break up and wrote multiple songs hinting at the details. Taylor’s first song that was alleged to be about Joe was Forever & Always.
The Jonas Brothers (except Kevin)) have always used their public relationships to bolster their careers - Miley, Selena, Taylor, and Demi. Now they incorporate their wives (”wives”) into their songs, music videos, merch, and overall marketing. Note that both Nick and Joe just happened to get married just as they were releasing their new album and staging their comeback. The use of contractual relationships has been a constant in their strategy to stay relevant. (Not dragging - I love the Jo Bros - just being honest)
Tumblr media
"Now go stand in the corner and think about what you did."
Throughout the song Taylor infantilizes Camilla and compares the situation to a playground fight. Also Taylor loves to talk in her songs!!!
Time for a little revenge The story starts when it was hot and it was summer and... I had it all, I had him right there where I wanted him
Taylor and Joe started bearding in Summer 2008 and bearded for 3 months, July 2008- Oct 2008, a fiscal quarter. It seems like this was the first of many 3 month long contracts for Taylor (Jake, John, Connor, etc). In general this was the first highly publicized “relationship” that Tay was in, seemingly her first beard. Note that is started just after Camp Rock came out, which starred Joe and featured him and the Jo Bros on the soundtrack, and it was just before Taylor released Fearless in Nov 2008, so both were trying to maximize their press coverage and promote their respective projects.
My complete and total guess (plz feel free to correct me if I’m missing something or just totally wrong) is that Taylor wanted to extend the contract since she was releasing Fearless in Nov 2008 and was doing a ton of promo for that, and potentially thought that bearding would help? But that Joe already had the Camilla narrative lined up. Seems like it would be very beneficial for her, given how famous Joe was at the time. Idk just a thought!!
She came along, got him alone and let's hear the applause She took him faster than you could say "sabotage" The line “let’s hear the applause” indicates that that it’s all for show and a PR relationship. It sets the stage for the song as being a literal stage, a performance for an audience (the public).
I never saw it coming, wouldn't have suspected it I underestimated just who I was dealing with She had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum She underestimated just who she was stealing from My best guess on this is that it’s referring to Camilla Belle being significantly less famous that Tay, and Tay being angry that her business plan didn’t go as she anticipated.
ALSO - Camilla Belle seemed to be a beard as well. It was rumored that Camille was with Maria Sharapova at this time and then the relationship with Joe popped up (”Waiting outside the room was a Hollywood actress, Camilla Belle. Seated inside was the world's highest-earning female athlete, a woman who has become synonymous with racket-swinging glamour, and a close friend of Belle's - Maria Sharapova”). Interestingly, this post talks about Maria specifically and her bearding.
She's not a saint And she's not what you think She's an actress She's better known For the things that she does on the mattress
Okay - this is a super cruel line. The being an actress line refers to Camilla bearding and acting straight. The mattress line is a play on words, saying - sure, she’s an actress, but she’s only known for, and famous because of, the people who she dates, i.e. “dating” Joe. Tay is saying without the contractual bearding relationship Camilla would not be known. Soon she's gonna find Stealing other people's toys On the playground won't make you many friends
“Stealing other people’s toys”?? This is one of the first times that Tay clearly objectifies the men she is supposedly in love with and talks about them as an thing that is hers to use as she likes. Other examples include “Cruel Summer” (Bad, bad boy, shiny toy with a price/You know that I bought it) and “Don’t Blame Me” (Toyin' with them older guys/Just to play things for me to use). Also this brings the child imagery back.
She should keep in mind She should keep in mind There is nothing I do better than revenge She looks at life like it's a party and she's on the list She looks at me like I'm a trend and she's so over it
This alludes to the cyclical nature of stardom and how people have a ton of press and a huge following, but are then quickly “over”. Taylor is saying that, by dating Joe, Camilla is able to get into parties and thinks Taylor is “over”.
I think her ever-present frown is a little troubling She thinks I'm psycho 'cause I like to rhyme her name with things
This line keeps me up at night. All I can come up with for this rhyme is “What the hell, Camilla Belle?” If you have something better please message me. But sophistication isn't what you wear or who you know Or pushing people down to get you where you wanna go They wouldn't teach you that in prep school so it's up to me But no amount of vintage dresses gives you dignity
This line, honestly as well as the ones before it, clearly refers to dating someone for social status and celebrity standing. It’s about looking a specific way to social climb and gain more clout - aka bearding in order to get more famous.
Camilla went to the elite all-girls Marlborough School, speaks multiple languages, and trained in classical music - hence the “prep school” line.
Chorus I'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at, honey You might have him but haven't you heard I'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at, honey You might have him but I always get the last word
Even just a couple albums in, Taylor already had a name for being honest and confrontational in her writing. Here Taylor is saying that without Joe she still is relevant, and they should know that she will address the situation head on. She gets the last word in the “relationship” with this song, but she also gets the last word with the general public by building a longer lasting career, and growing her career even though she is no longer in her contract with Joe.
Chorus Do you still feel like you know what you're doing? 'Cause I don't think you do. Do you still feel like you know what you're doing? I don't think you do I don't think you do Let's hear the applause Come on show me how much better you are (so much better, yeah?) So you deserve some applause 'cause you're so much better
This directly references the Jonas Brother song Much Better, that says “I get a rep for breakin' hearts/Now I'm done with superstars/And all the teardrops on her guitar/I'm not bitter“. There are a few other JB songs that are supposedly about Tay (Paranoid for one, which has a video that randomly has some similar imagery to the Lover music video?? I don’t have time to unpack if that’s a coincidence or not.)
She took him faster than you could say "sabotage"
*****worth noting that Tay has said she regrets some things she said in this song. Slut shaming and bashing other women isn’t cool and is just doing the patriarchy’s dirty work for them!!!! Don’t do it!!!!*****

@thegirlwithnonickname asked me if I could share my (unfinished) story "Always by your side" (I talked about in an ask yesterday). So here are the prologue and the first chapter of it! (Chapter two to five will follow eventually)
Note: I wrote and translated this story in 2017 so you have to forgive me if it isn't that good. Both my writing style and my English weren't as good as they are now, but I hope you'll like it still!
Here's the prologue and chapter one
...
Prologue
Tyler has always thought his best friend Lucas was immortal. He was like the sun. Shining bright and keeping everything around him alive and happy.
But what Tyler forgot was that sometimes, even stars died. And when they're gone, they leave you in darkness.
He can't remember much of what happened on the day Lucas died. All he can remember was that he was waiting for him at their usual spot but Lucas didn't come.
That was unusual, in all the years that they've been friends he has never been too late. Not without calling to say that he'll come later. And then, instead of Lucas, his mother called. That was also unusual. Lucas' mother never called Tyler.
And he never heard her cry either. Not until that moment. When she was telling him something he just couldn't believe. Didn't want to believe.
There was an accident. A car crash. And Lucas was involved.
That wasn't possible. Lucas was a good driver. A careful driver. And he of all people had a car accident?
"There was nothing they could do to save him," it was said later.
Tyler would never forget these words. They left their mark in his mind. Just like the pain he's feeling ever since the day his best friend died. The only person who was always there for him since they were kids. The person that he'd lost forever.
.
Chapter 1
As Tyler and Lucas met, they were both eight years old. Back then Tyler was playing at the playground near his house like he always did as he suddenly noticed a boy.
He'd never seen him before. He had light brown hair, freckles and a bright smile on his face. And he was walking directly towards Tyler.
'Are you playing here all alone?'
Tyler, who always played alone, nodded.
'No one should play alone', the boy said. 'Do you wanna play with me?'
The other kids never asked him if he wanted to play with them. So as this boy asked him he was so surprised that he forgot to answer at first. But then he nodded again. The other boy smiled.
'Sweet! I'm Lucas, by the way. What's your name?'
He offered Tyler a hand. Tyler took it and let Lucas help him stand up.
'Tyler!', he said.
Lucas smirked. 'Okay! Nice to meet you Tyler. Let's go!'
They spend the whole day at the playground together. They had so much fun that they completely forgot the time.
Lucas talked about his move to the city, his new school and his nice new house and he asked Tyler about his family and his house and if he ever moved from one city to another.
They played hide and seek and many other games. The last time Tyler felt as happy as he did that day was a long time ago.
As they had to go home Lucas asked him if they should play together the next day too. Tyler, who was happy he found a playmate, said yes.
And that was the beginning of a very special friendship.
~~~
Tyler ignored the knocking on his bedroom door.
'Tyler you can't stay in your room forever. School will start soon.'
He ignored his mother's words.
'Darling, I know that it's hard for you. I know you're mourning. But to hide in your room is not a solution. Lucas wouldn't have wanted that.'
It's been days since Lucas death. And Tyler had only left his room to pay his last respect to his best friend.
Lucas wouldn't have liked his funeral. Too much crying. Not enough laughing. Once he said to Tyler that he thinks that the people should celebrate a persons life, not cry because that life is over. But that's exactly what Tyler did. And his mother was right, Lucas would have hated it.
"I always tried to make sure you have a reason to laugh and now you're sitting here and cry because of me?"
Tyler wasn't sure if he could ever laugh again like he used to. He never lost someone before. Especially no one so close to him.
Of course he and Lucas weren't related but they were best friends for nine years. All this time they were never more than one week separated. They were like brothers.
Lucas was always there when he needed him. And that he was gone now, that he was dead... Tyler didn't know how to deal with that.
'Does he still doesn't want to open the damn door?', a second voice, his father, asked.
'No', said his mother.
There was another knock at his door. Louder than before.
'Come on boy! What's all this good for? It won't bring him back. Open the door!'
But Tyler didn't want to open the door. And he didn't want to go to school either. That would make Lucas death more real. More painful. It would be final. And he didn't wanted that. He wasn't ready for it yet.
As he woke up the morning after the accident he had hoped that it was all just a nightmare. That Lucas would wait downstairs to pick him up.
The day after that he had the same hope. And the day after that too. He didn't lose hope completely yet. But it faded every day and if he opened the door to leave his room and go to school, that hope would be gone.
Just thinking about continuing his normal life without Lucas seemed wrong to him. For the last nine years Lucas was such an important part of his daily life that Tyler didn't knew what living without him was like. He always wished that he'd never have to find out.
'Tyler, open the bloody door, damn it!', his father shouted.
He always loses his temper quickly. He hated to be ignored. That was typical for his father and one reason there was always trouble and a lot of fights at their home.
'Jim!' His mother tried to calm her husband down. 'Lucas was so important to him. Be more indulgent.'
His mom always tried to calm his father down. That was also a reason there was always trouble and a lot of fights at home. His father hated it when someone tried to calm him down.
'Still that's not a reason to ignore me. And he has to leave his damn room too! You hear me Tyler? Move your ass out of that room.'
Being indulgent wasn't really his thing. Not that Tyler would've been surprised. Since Lucas once defended him during a fight between father and son his dad was at odds with him.
"This boy barges in things that are none of his business."
And Lucas couldn't stand him either. A "quarrelsome egoist", that's what he had called him. And even though his father might had his good sides, Lucas wasn't wrong with that term.
That's why Tyler gave in. He didn't meant to start a fight, that's nothing he could handle right now. He got up and went to the door. Before he opened it he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Let's go.
For a moment all he could see when he opened the door was a bright light. Then his vision cleared and he saw his parents standing before him. His mom looked worried. His father just seemed annoyed.
'Finally. Now get ready and come downstairs. Dinner's ready.' He turned around and left. Tyler's mom shook her head. Then she looked at her son.
'Sorry Tyler. You know your father.' She hugged him. 'How do you feel darling?'
Tyler didn't knew how to answer. How could he describe it? It was just too much. He felt angry. Sad. Helpless. He missed Lucas.
'It's... not easy.' That's all he said.
His mom smiled. It was a sad smile. 'I know darling. If you need to talk about it, I'm here.'
Tyler nodded. 'Okay. Thanks mom.'
'You can come downstairs for dinner if you want. If not, that's fine too. Don't worry about your father, I'll deal with him', his mom said. Then she left.
But she stopped midways. 'By the way, I made my famous pasta.'
Tyler smiled. Her famous pasta. Lucas and his favourite food. Surely she made it to cheer him up.
So Tyler wouldn't say no either.
"I could never say no to your mom's pasta." That's what Lucas always said.
🖤 I See My Future Before Me 🖤
At first, he thought this was some kind of a practical joke but, when Morrison saw you there, sitting alone on one of the swings of that playground that one particular night, he knew that there was, indeed, trouble.
"At this time of the evening?" The Broker asked, his voice laced with concern. "Tell me what happened, my Lady."
You looked up and smiled weakly, trying your very best to look normal when you could barely subdue your own tears. "Dante has forgotten that I'm coming home."
Morrison took a seat on one of the swings, joining you. "Why would he forget about a lady such as yourself?"
You shrugged your shoulders helplessly, showing the man just how much this kind of situation drained you emotionally. "I told you about his girlfriend, right?"
"The one who always visits him and - "
"... takes over the place and his entire schedule, yes." You finished for him, then sighed. "I intend on using the back door, like I always do. It's,... locked. I tried the front, no luck. Then, I heard them. They were talking about me."
The man's eyebrows furrowed, his sweat trickling down his forehead due to the very tense, yet sad, situation. "What did they say about you?"
"Dante wants me out of his life. He hates me and doesn't want to see me anymore."
"He didn't!"
"Unfortunately, yes." You sadly confirmed. "I don't want to quit Devil Hunting. But, it seems that I just got fired."
"No! Until I say so, you're not quitting Devil Hunting."
"What will I do?"
And so, a month later, Dante found himself knocking on the door of your very own unit in one of the most posh apartments in the city.
"Come on, (Y/N). Answer." The man nervously said as he waited for you to open the door.
"I'm coming!" He heard you say from the other side, and when you finally came to answer, you were startled to find yourself face to face with him.
"Hey, (Y/N)! I - " Dante began when you tried to close the door on his face. He held it just in time and pleaded. "Wait! Let me explain."
"You've made yourself clear, Sir." You answered sarcastically, not wanting to let him in at all. "Now, if you would kindly,... "
"(Y/N), listen to me very, very carefully." The man pleaded once more, managing to get past the barrier separating you two. "I can explain everything."
You just rolled your eyes in defeat and allowed Dante to enter your unit.
As you sat back down on your sofa, the man's jaw dropped in awe of your place.
"You got this place fully furnished already, huh?" The man uttered as he positioned himself on another sofa opposite you.
"Unlike you, I work my ass off really hard." You answered nonchalantly as you picked up a leather - bound edition of Lovecraft from the glass - top table.
"How did you get this place?"
"Morrison's recommendation. Personally knew the owner."
The man flinched at the hardness and coldness of your voice. At first, he didn't believe that you would get so upset for what happened.
He didn't expect it to be this bad.
"Whatever you heard from us that day, none of it was real. I don't want you out of my life. I don't hate you, and I definitely want so much to see you back home."
"This is my home."
"Look at me!" Dante snatched Lovecraft away, making you look at him involuntarily with much anger in your eyes. "You have no idea just how much you affect me!"
"Isn't it the right decision for you to let me go, then?!"
"You're wrong! Everywhere you go, you leave traces of you behind! Everything you've touched, every piece of furniture you've laid your hands on, even those sad movies you've left behind! Everything reminds me of you! I was so confused. I thought that if I let you go, I won't be burdened by thoughts of you anymore but, I was wrong! (Y/N)," the man said, leaving his chair, coming closer to you, and taking your hands in his. "... go back home, please. I beg you!"
You raised an eyebrow at Dante's pitiable state. You tried to take your hands off his tight grip and failed.
"Your girlfriend will kill me."
"I broke up with her."
This surprised you a lot, knowing how much the man doted on that woman. "Since when?"
"Doesn't matter. She's gone."
Eyeing the man suspiciously, you leaned your face closer to his, trying to see if he was telling the truth or not.
"You do know what our deal is, right?"
To this, Dante's sweat quite literally ran cold. "Y - yes."
"No one would belong to anyone. Right?"
"Yes, yes. I know."
You nodded in agreement, then succesfully took your hands off him while he was confused and flustered. You stood up, went to the windows, and parted the heavy curtains, letting the sunlight in and letting the man see how you looked clearly.
Oversized shirt, ponytail, shorts, wool socks, fluffy slippers,...
... that intoxicating vintage wine scent that gave him sleepless nights,...
To Dante, you were the most beautiful thing in the world.
"As a matter of fact, I, too, have a proposal. Accept it and I will return to Devil May Cry."
Dante stood up and faced you. "Tell me."
You stepped forward, your gaze not straying from Dante's eyes.
"I've been searching for someone." You began as you crossed your arms. "I can feel that I'm going to meet him soon. So, when that time comes, you will let me go."
"Who is he? Why would I let you go if you meet him?"
"You will find that out for yourself. Just, please. Agree to this and I will return, I swear."
During that time, he had no idea who this man was, or how important it was for you to meet him. And, who could blame him? All he wanted by then was to be with you,...
"Agreed." Dante finally relented.
"Good. Now, I have to - " But, you were distracted as the man suddenly took you in his arms and wrapped you in a really tight hug. "Ew! Dante, you stink!" You shrieked, trying to free yourself from his grasp. "When was the last time you took a bath?!"
"A while,... " the man unapologetically answered, happily sniffing your fragrant hair. "I can't live without my lovely assistant."
"Oh, my God! You're hopeless without me, aren't you?! Please, take a bath first! I'm dying here!"
"Would you like to join?"
"NO!"
And so, without having to join the man in the shower, you were able to return as his assistant. Days passed, weeks, months, everything was going really well for the both of you,...
... until,...
May 17, 07:45 PM
The room was dark. As expected, the building was deserted. You've already heard from the local news that the Demon King that threatened Red Grave with the Underworld Tree was already defeated.
So, as instructed by your boss Dante, you went back a day later to finally meet the others, including the supposed client who offered the job. Yes, particularly him. He said that you two might get along.
You placed your pale pink fur coat on the sofa, seeing a familiar silhouette sitting behind the desk.
"Dante, I thought you're already paid in advance by your client?" You said, walking towards your boss, unaware of everything that took place during the fight. "Where are the others?"
"What are you doing here?" He said to you in a raspy voice. "You're not supposed to be here,..."
"Imbecile!"
"Useless!"
"That's what friends are for, right?"
"NO!"
"Why, V?!"
"What evil lurks, I must destroy!"
"The other night dear when I lay sleeping,
I dreamt I held you in my arms.
But when I woke dear,
I was mistaken and I hung my head and I cried.
You are my sunshine.
My only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.
I'll always love you and make you happy.
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away."
Ugh, that radio again,...
You woke up to that song on the radio and to Nico practically shaking you and slightly yelling at you, worried of your state.
"Hey, honey! You look like you're having a nightmare."
"Huh? Oh,..." You grumbled as you finally woke up, opening your eyes and letting your sight adjust to the light. "I hope it stays like that - a nightmare."
"Why? What happened?" Your friend asked, positioning herself beside you on the sofa.
"It felt,... so real." You answered, your voice hoarse due to dry throat. "It's like someone stabbed me in the chest over and over and over,..."
"You're still here. Don't worry."
You suddenly felt all the blood drain from your face as realization harshly hit in. "That's the problem. I can see the future,..."
To this, Nico only boisterously laughed. You sneered at her as you kicked her out of the sofa. She fell from it, still laughing like crazy.
"That's never a big deal for ya, hon!" The freckled woman informed you through fits of laughter. "You can heal! Anyone can stab through your chest and you'll still live!"
"Ugh, are you really my friend?" You shook your head as you sat up straight and rubbed your temples. "Stabbed, burned, skewered. You name it, I went through it. If it weren't for this entity inside me, I wouldn't even be talking to you right now. But, nowadays,..." you sighed, still feeling a bit worn out from the events that took place the last time you were awake. "... I feel,... completely drained. Like, I'm running out of lives to spare."
"Is that even possible?" Nico asked as she stood and made her way to the back of the trailer to make you a decent meal. "I mean, you've been with that entity for ten years, and you never complained about getting tired."
"Yes but, lately, I've been feeling, I don't know, worn out? Like I've been running an endless marathon with hardly any breaks."
"I can tell." Your friend answered with a knowing smile.
"What time is it?"
"Eight fifteen."
"What? I couldn't be sleeping for only fifteen minutes." You questioned, feeling confused.
Nico laughed as she put a mug of hot coffee down on the table. "Hon, you've been asleep for twenty - four hours straight!"
"Excuse me?!" You shrieked in disbelief as you hastily made your way towards the dashboard to look at the clock. Yes, it was nearly sixteen minutes past eight in the morning, and you also found out, in horror, that a full day has already passed. "No. Way!"
"V was lonesome, ya know? Wanted to spend the rest of the evening with ya." The freckled woman declared as she put a plate of scrambled eggs on the table for you to eat. "But, ya had to be sleepin' freakin' beauty all day. I knew he should have kissed you awake. Ya know what I'm sayin'?"
"Where is he?" You asked, ignoring her jokes and settling back down on the sofa.
"Patrollin' the streets with Nero. They should be back any moment now." Nico answered as she sat on the sofa opposite you. "They took out Eleison."
"Eleison?" You uttered as you took the mug. "Who's that? Another Devil Hunter?"
"Oh, that's Nero's motorcycle. He named it Eleison for some reason. I don't know but, everytime Nero mentions it to Kyrie, the girl would not stop giggling. Maybe some lovers' inside joke or somethin'."
"Yeah."
You were about to enjoy your breakfast when you heard someone knocking on the door.
"Since when did I start locking this car, psycho?!" Nico wildly screamed as she stood up and went towards the door to open it,...
"That Fleminger guy better pay me double for this!" Nero raged as he and V made their way back to the mansion after a hard night's work.
V only chuckled. "As silly as a man's folly can get,... you should not blame anyone for your own mistake." He simply said. After two nights straight of Devil Hunting, he felt really worn out to the bone. He longed so much to take a rest, maybe sleep for five hours or so.
But, most especially, he wanted to see you again,...
Nero looked at the thing in his hand and grumbled. "I'm sorry, Eleison."
When the trailer finally came into view, the two men noticed that not two but, three people were waiting for them.
"Is that,... ?" Nero quietly asked as he pointed at their surprise visitor.
"It is." V confirmed as memories of that last night went back to him.
As soon as Nico saw the two men approaching, she started waving her arms excitedly, wanting them to meet them faster. And when they finally did, she noticed the suspiciously familiar handlebar on Nero's hand. Except that it was burnt and slightly bent.
"Yo, dude!" Nico exclaimed breathlessly as she took the thing from the man's hand. "Is this what I think this is?"
Nero sighed. "Yes."
"Poor Eleison! What happened to her?!"
"This Demon we fought, a huge thing with tummy teeth, sucked it like a damn vacuum and spew it out at us with fire! That's what's left of,... her."
"I knew she'll break one day!" Nico said, unintentionally blissful of her accurate conjecture. "I just didn't know it would happen this way."
"And we found this." V added as he threw a horn - like thing at her. It was dark - colored and still smoking slightly. She caught it excitedly and sniffed it like it's the most fragrant thing in the world.
"Hooee! I'm gonna make something AMAZING out of this!"
"Did you just sniff that?" Nero questioned, utterly revolted. "Do you have any idea where that's been?"
"Up your butt?"
Nero helplessly shook his head. "Focus on the mission!"
"The boy is right." A fourth, unknown voice informed them.
All three of them looked behind them to finally notice the Fleminger Head, himself, who was sitting on one of the abandoned chairs of his once pristine ballroom. Next to him, they noticed you, waving at them with a nervous smile.
Fleminger stood up and made his way towards Nero. "I believe you are the hero who defeated the Demon King of Red Grave."
"I'm hardly a hero." Nero, not being used to open recognition despite the way he looked, only muttered. "And you must be the man behind all of this."
The man chuckled. "You have no idea what your words just now meant. I' am Lord Fleminger, your humble servant."
"He gave us a week worth supply of food, for your information!" Nico declared proudly as she pointed at the trailer behind her.
"That is,... unusually kind,... of someone like you."
All four of you, including Fleminger, himself, looked at V as he said those threatening words. He has never forgotten his strange and suspicious encounter with the man, and after that, he became even more cautious of him.
Not to mention it irked him that he was sitting close to you.
"My Lord, it is a pleasure to see you once more." Fleminger calmly answered V.
"You've met?!" Both Nero and Nico said, startled at what they just found out.
"Pleasure." The poet monotonously replied.
"A word or two. In private. If I may?"
You watched worriedly as Fleminger drew V away from Nero and Nico, excusing themselves. You noticed as V glanced your way, his facial expression telling you not to worry, when you honestly felt the opposite.
You smiled at him, reassuring him that everything would be fine.
V allowed himself to be led by the man, and as he cautiously followed him all the way to the other side of the mansion, he began to suspect something more dreadful, like he was willingly walking into a trap laid by the enigmatic man.
However, despite his gut feelings telling him of impending trouble, V remained silent, his metal cane and their footsteps the only things making noise against the cold, marble floor.
Fleminger, who was talkative, as always, opened his mouth and spoke.
"You have not forgotten about my advice, haven't you, my Lord?"
"How could I forget such a thing?"
Fleminger chuckled, his voice low and seemed to vibrate.
"Fetching little thing, actually. Came to see her for myself."
For some reason, V felt the hairs on his nape stand on end at those words. Vague, they may be but, it surely caught his attention in a very bad way.
"Pardon?"
Fleminger did not elaborate. Instead, he turned to the right and faced an ornate wooden door that must have led to an office of some sort. He simply opened it, letting V enter first.
Albeit hesitant, the poet obeyed.
What greeted him inside really didn't look dangerous, at all. The room was vast, with several portraits of what must've been Fleminger's ancestors hanging on the wall. The heavy oriental maroon curtain was not drawn, and the mahogany floors looked like they have just been polished to a certain degree of perfection. There was a sofa facing a warm hearth, and in the middle of the room was Fleminger's desk.
"Ah, the errors of humanity, I have forgotten to let the sunshine in!" Fleminger exclaimed theatrically as he made his way towards the curtains to part them, splashing light all over the gorgeous, yet dreary room.
"Why did you choose to stay here?" V inquired, his suspicions of the man getting the better of him.
"My Lord, this is my home." His companion answered as he leaned on his desk, his gestures similar to when V first met him. "I' am old, and have nowhere else to go. But, with Devil Hunters such as yourself, I feel secure."
"Tell me what this Demon is." V demanded. "You know things that we don't. You said so, yourself."
"Getting straight to the point, aren't we, my Lord?"
"Tell. Me."
Fleminger smiled at him, his facial expression very much unreadable. "Do you know why the Dreadnought have an army of Demons at its beck and call?"
V didn't answer and instead allowed the man to continue speaking.
"It is said that the Dreadnought have this,... unusual characteristic. A unique trait, if you will. It draws both higher and lesser Demons to it, enabling it to manipulate them in unspeakable ways."
"And what is this characteristic?"
"My Lord, what did I tell you the last time we met? About blocking your own sensations?"
V ransacked his convoluted mind for that one encounter, and what came up utterly shocked him to his very core.
"You know how some pleasant things send so many different kinds of sensations all throughout the body. I suggest blocking all of them all the same." V clearly remembered the man speaking. "It's best to know what is truth, and what is not."
But, then, if the Dreadnought could manipulate Demons, both higher and lesser, then he knew - !
In an instinct, V called upon Shadow, who instantly materialized and bared her fangs at Fleminger.
"How did you know who I was?!" V hissed, pointing his cane at the man and threatening him.
Fleminger only laughed. "There is no need to threaten me, my Lord, for I' am not your enemy. I' am here to serve you."
"For what?" V said at the same time that Shadow growled.
"For a greater purpose." Fleminger left the table and pointed at the portraits of his ancestors. "This Demon has been an archenemy of my family for a hundred years. I'm sure I have already told you that. Putting an end to it means giving those poor souls an eternal rest in Heaven. Ending it means putting an end to my grandmother's life - long sorrow."
"And why do I have to be involved with your ancestor's problems?"
"Oh, because you are the only one who could deal the finishing blow to this unstoppable enemy. Having experienced firsthand this,... Demonic characteristic,... our Dreadnought has, I' am confident that you would overcome it, seeing through the lies and uncovering the truth."
"I demand you cease this nonsense! I have not experienced this Demonic trait, nor,... "
Something made V stop mid - sentence.
Manipulation of the Demons through a particularly unique characteristic?
Manipulation?
Demonic trait?
Fleminger's smile widened as he noticed V unwillingly drop his defenses at the sudden realization. His suspicious smile even widened as the poet called Shadow back.
"It seems, my Lord, that you have finally understood something."
"Tell me,..." V quietly said, unable to believe everything he just found out. And still refused to do so. "This trait - what is it, exactly?"
"Scent, my Lord." Fleminger answered in a whisper, leaning his face closer to V's direction, casting an uncanny shadow. "Demons are drawn to a particular scent this Dreadnought releases. This scent depends on the personality of its target. It hypnotizes them, and when it finally has them on its grasp, it manipulates them to do its bidding."
"This,... is impossible."
Metal cane dropping to the floor with a loud clang, sweaty hands trembling in both fear and nervousness, V's eyes widened, shock and pain tearing at his own heart and soul.
"I'm afraid it isn't, my Lord."
Hands going up on creased forehead and eyebrows furrowed with conflicting emotions, V spoke. "How do I know you are not spouting lies?!"
***
You patiently waited for V to return, and when you finally saw him walking towards you, your face lit up in delight. You excitedly ran and met him halfway.
"V!" You cheerfully said, looking up at the man. "Welcome home."
"Not now, (Y/N)." The man answered in an uncharacteriscally cold tone. "I'm tired."
"... what?" You managed to speak, easily hurt by his sudden distant attitude towards you.
"Give me a moment. A minute, an hour, I do not care. Please, I beg you,..."
And with those words that cut through your chest like an ice - cold knife, he left you and isolated himself from the rest of your group.
Chapter Five- Part Two
   Once the Wheeler's got home, Nancy and Phina went to change into more conventional clothing. Phina put on some warm maroon leggings and a long sleeve black shirt, then threw on a grey zip up hoodie with her leather jacket over it. The weather had been getting colder and colder, if they were going to be out in the forest, at night, she wanted to be prepared.
   Phina looked around her room, looked for anything that could be used as a weapon. She thought of an obvious weapon that she possessed, but she couldn't let Nancy, or even Jonathan, see it. So she settled for a nice wooden baseball bat. She'd been in softball during her freshman and sophomore years, one of the best players on the team, but she had quit, because no one really cared for her to be there, mostly, they were afraid of her, due to her reputation.
   Phina had always been called the weirdo of Hawkins, and it was due to what happened when she was five. Hikers had found Phina, almost frozen to death in the middle of the forest. When they had gotten her to the hospital, and warmed up, they tried to figure out where she came from, where her family was, but she couldn't remember. The only thing she could was waking up to the sound of the hikers shouting.
   The Wheeler's had adopted Phina into there family, and they all loved her so much, that they sometimes forget she isn't actually related to them.
   The rumors about her started almost as soon as she began school, everyone either hated her or feared her, and no one hated her more then Carol. Phina never let it get to her, because she knew that she was loved, by her family and the Byers. Even though she had a wonderful family, and the Byers', the bullies still got to her, and one day, she snapped.
   Phina had always been a hothead, but she had always let people push her around, but when Carol pushed to far once in sixth grade, she stopped letting it happen. Carol had smacked Phina on the playground, the first time anyone had actually laid a hand on her, and Phina saw red. When Carol brought her hand down for a second hit, Phina's own hand had shot up and grabbed Carol's wrist, twisting it back so hard and fast that the bone in her arm snapped clean in two.
   Everyone that had witnessed it was to scared to say anything, so everyone had agreed that Carol fell, and Phina had done nothing. This event hadn't stopped Carol's bullying, but it had built Phina a reputation, and no one laid a hand on her, not unless they had a death wish.
   Phina shook her head, leaving her own thoughts and went downstairs to meet Nancy. Her sister was in the garage, taking practice swings with one of Mike's old baseball bats. To say she wasn't good at it was an understatement.
   "How's it goin' there sis," Phina asked her mockingly.
   "Fine," Nancy grunted as she swung again.
   "Don't let your body move so much, you'll fall forward," Phina told her, "get a good strong stance with your legs, only move your upper body enough to get your swing going."
   Nancy continues to practice her swing, improving a little bit from Phina's help. Phina hops onto the hood of her fathers car, and lays back.
   Phina listened to her sister swing, the whistle it made as it cut through the air. She also listened to the noise of nature, the last few birds singing in the trees, the winds accompaniment. Nature was soothing, if you truly took the time to enjoy it, you'd find yourself at home. Phina felt at home when she was surrounded by nature, more than anywhere else, even with the Byers.
   Phina hears Nancy swing again, and then Steve Harrington's voice shout, "woah woah woah, hey!"
   Phina jumps up, her head snapping towards Steve. He has his arms up and was looking at Nancy, but when he heard movement, looked over at her. Her steely glare was set on him, and, he wasn't going to lie, it burned. She was still unbelievably livid about what he did to Jonathan, he knew that she would be, but being under her harsh glare made him squirm.
   "What are you doing here," Nancy askes.
   Steve lookes back at her, "What are you doing?"
   "Nothing," Nancy lies, badly.
   "I hope that's not for me," Steve points at the bat.
   "Her's isn't, mine just might be," Phina grumbled, swing her bat up to her shoulder and hopping of the cars hood.
   Nancy glared at her sister, "no no. I was just thinking about joining softball. Phina was giving me pointers."
   "Oh. Well uh, listen, I'm very sorry. I mean, even before you threatened me with a baseball bat," Steve jokes, walking past Nancy to lean against the car.
   "Ok?"
   "I mean, I panicked. I was a total dick," Steve explains.
   Phina's glare deepens and she pushes away from the car to lean against the wall, "no shit?"
   Nancy ignores her and snorts, "yeah. You were."
   They look at each other for a moment, an awkward silence between them, that had Phina cringing.
   "Did you get in trouble with your parents," Nancy asks.
   "Totally but, you know, who cares. Screw  'em," he says, "any news about Barbra?"
   Nancy shakes her head, Steve continues, "parents heard from her, or?"
Like you care Harrington. Phina thinks to herself, her eyes still burning with fire. Her anger at him was still stoked high and she knew it would not go down for a long time.
   Nancy shakes her head again, Barb was still gone, but she was going to save her best friend.
   "Hey listen, why don't we, uh, why don't we catch a movie tonight, you know?" Steve pushes off the car and walks closer to Nancy. "Just kinda pretend that everything's normal for a few hours. All The Right Moves is still playing!"
   Phina rolls her eyes and Steve catches it. He realizes that he should probably apologize to her too, but he just knows she won't listen to a word that comes out of his mouth.
   "You know, the lover boy from risky business," Steve says to Nancy, pushing Phina away from his thoughts.
   Nancy laughs awkwardly, "yeah."
   Phina can't help it anymore, she can't listen to this. She pushes away from the wall harshly and exits the garage. Phina swings her bat around and takes a few swings, the movement swift and smooth. She faintly hears Steve start singing but she tunes him out. Did he have to be so outrageously annoying all the damn time?
   After being rejected, Steve leaves the garage, singing again. Phina heard him and grits her teeth, swinging ever so slightly harder. Steve looks at the girl and sighs.
   "I know you don't really care, but I am sorry for what I did to Jonathan and his camera. It was stupid," he apologizes weakly.
   Phina swings again and grunts, "yeah? Why don't you apologize to Jonathan, he'd probably actually forgive you."
   Steve's face falls even more, both the Wheeler girl's rejections hitting home, "I'm sorry."
   "Yeah! You said that already Harrington!" She turns to him furiously. "And you know what! I don't really care. You're right, you fucked up bad, really bad. Did you know I bought that camera for Jon on our ten year friendship anniversary? No, you didn't, because you have no care in the world for the people you hurt."
   She hadn't realized that she had stepped closer to him, she didn't care, she leaned in even closer to his face, "now why don't you just leave before I make do on that threat."
   She lifts her bat for emphasis, meaning it completely. He looks at the bat and pales, rasing his hands in surrender.
   "Ok," he nods, "I'll leave."
   Phina spins on her heal and storms back towards her sister. Steve watches as she goes, giving Nancy a little wave before leaving like promised. Nancy opens her mouth to say something, to reprimand her, but Phina gives her a look.
   "Don't start with me right now," she growls, and then sighs, "just don't."
