Feeling conflicted about the cyberpunk thingy impulse is going for because like yeah it’s a great theme and I like the aesthetics a lot but what I really like most about cyberpunk is the themes of corporate alienation and/or transhumanism etc etc which I know will not be addressed at all and in fact it’s kind of stupid of me to expect that at all from a minecraft series. Does anyone else get that or just me
#this is an issue I’ve been having with mcyt content in general you know. not ragging on impulse specifically#it’s just… I find it difficult to reconcile the quality of narrative focused mcyt content with its complete lack of commentary#should it have commentary? I believe it could if it wanted to. I don’t think it has to#but then you see these genres being… skinned and worn as cloaks#taking the aesthetics and story without any of the meaning behind it#and when it was just Minecraft builds that was expected. I guess it is still expected and I’m being a huge snob#but like. mcyt narrative is so fucked from a quality standpoint. you can’t even have villains who are other mcyters because people#will get mad at them#is that an unrelated issue? maybe. but I don’t think so#idk. mcyters aren’t expected to be storytellers and they don’t need to be#but I see these things happen over and over again and it’s just uncanny to see something that walks like a story talks like a story#but at the same time has absolutely nothing of value to say#it’s very early on so maybe there will be something done with this concept but I doubbbt it. I would be very pleasantly surprised#astro speaks#hermitcraft#not putting this in the impulse tag cause he would be more likely to see it#and I don’t want him to feel like he has to address this at all#it’s more just me noticing a trend

the new video was greatly needed if watcher had any hopes of staying afloat. unfortunately, this backpedaling does not change the fact that
1) high production "television quality" content is what they want to make
2) this content is evidently not what people want to watch (even post-apology i'm seeing a lot of people saying they liked bfu better than anything watcher has produced)
again, if they have a clear vision of what they want to make, that's great. but unless there's a market for that content, then it's not going to turn a profit, or break even for that matter. yes, artists deserve to be paid for their work, but art is always bought by people who want and have an interest in said art.
im an artist pursuing my dreams too, but i don't expect people to buy my niche paintings just on the principle that i am an artist creating what i want. if i wanted to make money from this and turn it into a business, i would take commissions and specifically create what other people want. that is what having any kind of artistic job is about, unfortunately.
it's great if what you want to create and what people want to see overlap, but that's not always the case. and i really fear this is the case with watcher and they won't pivot enough to fix any of their problems
#here's an example#i know gmm is a way bigger company but#rhett and link do gmm stuff#but occasionally produce something a lot more involved and creative that is inspired solely by their wants#those videos dont do nearly as good as gmm does#but its an outlet for them to still have some creative control#and the people who like those videos love them (im one of them!)#so it is possible to both produce content that is profitable and to make content that pleases you as an artist#you just have to find a balance with it and unfortunately watcher has no balance at all#like even watcher's 'lower quality' work uses so many resources like. guys theres a reason youre bleeding money#and people giving you $6 isnt going to fix it#they need an overhaul#cut back to basics to find their footing before trying these super ambitious projects that they're not sure will pay off#watcher#im talking again

#really it’s more of a need at this point#i think i need my own space again#like living at home is fine#but im essentially living out of two rooms#i sleep in my teenage bedroom on a twin bed#and all of my clothes and stuff are in a bedroom upstairs that is basically a storage room#we were gonna move me up there but there’s no way to get everything out of it#and it has furniture that im not allowed to get rid of or paint or anything#and i just lived in such shit places before this and couldn’t afford to decorate the way i wanted to#plus my ex wouldn’t let me decorate it the way i wanted either bc she is much more minimalist that i am#i just want my own space#i want to be able to smoke in my apartment in peace#i want to be able to decorate and just create a cozy space#i want to be able to take content whenever i want and walk around in my underwear again#i really think it’s something i really need to happen in order for my quality of life to be better#bottom.spm

ryan deadass saying smth like "nobody else on youtube has made tv quality content"
like... i really feel like it's important to highlight that bc not only do they obviously have no respect for their audience, but that statement shows they have no respect for their peers in the industry, either.
not to mention it is a shining example of bleeding arrogance to such a high degree, you will straight up fucking lie bc you're truly convinced you're that special when you're anything but.
there's been NUMEROUS online creators who were recognized by entertainment industry workers BECAUSE they made tv quality content & even full stop blockbuster quality content.
bo burnham started on youtube & is now one of the most wellknown & loved standup comedians of our generation, with numerous netflix specials & even a movie he wrote & directed under his belt.
the try guys, fellow ex-buzzfeed employees, had their own tv specials on food network (based off their youtube shows, btw) & a documentary made about them as well
rosanna pansino has also been on numerous food network shows both as a host & a judge
quinta brunsun, another fellow ex-buzzfeed employee, went on to create her own whole ass sitcom that has been highly praised
matpat cameo'd in the fnaf movie because of his theories & multiple other fnaf creators had small cameos through the employee of the month board easter egg
markiplier made multiple high-quality shows on youtube & is now working on a highly anticipated movie (he was also planned to cameo in the fnaf movie but couldn't due to conflicting schedules with his own movie)
hot ones got their own tv gameshow due to their popularity & they are still one of the most wellknown, beloved & respected internet shows
many short films made on youtube went on to premiere at film festivals & even in theaters
the hit horror film "talk to me" was created by youtubers rackaracka
webseries of actual fucking tv shows have also existed for literal decades
the list goes on.
to seriously think that overproduced bullshit is all you need to make "tv quality content" is not only tone-deaf, but shows they do not even know what they're talking about. many tv shows & huge blockbuster movies are made with absolutely microscopic budgets & small teams, & they still get praised & awarded for the passion, dedication, & creativity that shined brightly under those restrictions.
the blair witch project is probably the most wellknown & highly praised example of this, but it is far from the Only example
it is a whole other slap in the face, again ESPECIALLY when puppet history is one of their most popular shows, to spit in the face of internet history. to see the success of their predecessors, even ppl they fucking worked with at buzzfeed, & deny them of all their success & efforts to get where they ended up.
no, y'all are not the first people to make "tv quality content" on the internet. FAR from it. because your crap isn't even genuine "tv quality".
but you are the first ones to ever disrespect not only your audience, but your own fucking industry & your peers on this level.

Alright... so for whatever ungodly reason I’ve been putting off finally watching RWBY volume 9 (despite waiting with anticipation for SO long), and... dang. Like DANG. I’m gonna need to stare at a wall for a while.
#it was SO good but SO intense#those content warnings were NOT kidding around#i always said i'd love to see new mods of the old vol 1-3 characters (like roman ozpin pyrrha etc)#BUT NOT LIKE THAT#and literally got to see my boy (oscar) ONCE AND IT WAS AWFUL DEAR GOD#(i mean good story/quality just awful bc OUCH that was painful to watch)#i'm okay i'll be fine just need to sit... for a few days#BUT ALSO WHY DID JAUNE HAVE TO TURN YOUNGER AGAIN#it always messes with my mind when characters go through entire lives and then become children again#cause like... the memories are still there!! he's still old!! but now he just looks young which could lead to some problems#like... everyone's going to see him as kid again (or y'know a young adult) and maybe not take him as seriously as they should??#but like... dude's been through an entire Time and he is Not Okay#sorry i have a lot of feelings and now that i'm typing it's all just coming out#more to say but i guess i'll stop here lmao#ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST#i've been listening to it for a while but hearing it in actual scenes is an Experience#rwby#rwby9#sam says
