One of my story ideas that'll get around to working on One Day is a western that is not a western - a historical adventure that's set in the time and location of the "wild west", but instead of western tropes, it's chock full of historical stuff that was actually very much a thing back then, but is generally left out of the generic classic spaghetti westerns. All sorts of odd random things that make history nerds poke their friends like "that's actually real btw. That was a real thing back then." Naturally this would take a shit ton of research and that's one of the reasons why this is on the backburner.

One of the characters is Annikki Härmänranta, the protagonists' finnish laundress and housekeeper, who is altogether pretty much only respectfully addressed as "ma'am". Her name is unpronounceable to practically everyone and she adamantly refuses to tolerate any kind of nicknames because they are against her religion. As a devout protestant, she was given her first name when she was christened and got her last name when she married, and as far as she is concerned, christian people don't change names or aquire new ones unless a priest is involved.

The other characters receive this explanation through an equally confused translator, as Annikki herself mainly communicates her disapproval of things by either a whack of her broom, or threatening to whack people with it. She speaks fluent german and while she understands english perfectly fine, she refuses to speak it.

She came to the US along with her husband, who came there to work and died in a mining accident. Though she has no family or other ties to keep her from it, Annikki refuses to return to Europe, having concluded that living in this land is her personal punishment from God. As she is in no way a person who would meekly submit to tolerateing anything that she does not want, the other characters do pierce together that she does genuinely prefer her life here. She is nowhere near as bitter or genuinely resentful as she lets out, but by some finnish logic that makes sense to no-one else, she would find it embarrassing to admit that she is actually genuinely happy, or God forbit admit that she'd do anything purely because she likes it.

The rest of the gang, being a motley crew, are no strangers to otherwise sensible people living by strange codes of honour, so they accept her strange convictions with a shrug. She is loyal to a fault, has no respect whatsoever to the local law and government, and genuinely loves and cares for the gang of outlaws she cooks and cleans for - even if she exclusively expresses her love by aggressively making sure that they are as clean and healthy as she can keep them.

While she mainly communicates with tapping, pointing and occasionally whacking with a broom, ladle or whatever is at hand, she's not exactly silent, and can and will burst into finnish. She talks to herself mainly by talking to the animals - the gang jokes that their goat probably understands finnish by now - and can and will curse out people when they frustrate her. When someone's brought in limping and wounded, the others don't need to understand a word to pierce together that she's scolding them for getting hurt in some stupid-ass way when she just got done nursing the last patient back to passable health.

When a character who's unfamiliar with her tries to meekly explain her that he doesn't understand her, she answers - in finnish - that she knows and doesn't care. It's not like any of them would listen to her any more than the goat does. While none of her rants are translated into english, the readers who do understand finnish get to enjoy the bonus comedy of her laments, which are peppered with remarkably creative cursing and all delivered in a strong and very distinct ostrobothnian dialect.

At the end side of the story she ends up marrying another side character - a chinese man. This comes as a surprise to most of the crew and those of the readers who didn't pick up on the background foreshadowing, and everyone considers them somewhat of an odd couple. He is a more reserved, poetic soul and a sensitive man, and though the other men are baffled as to why he would choose her out of all the women in the world, he's more amused than insulted by their confusion. Things like having rather little in the means of a mutual language, or the fact that she's almost 15 years older than him, are irrelevant to him - a woman who can keep her household in check without needing to say a word is worth far more than one who can't do it with all the talking in the world.

She might look like a mule, but she's as strong as one, too, and a woman who can face down a bear, wrangle drunk men to behave, suture a wound or butcher a chicken without flinching, and somehow out-stubborn a goat, and still be gentle to newborn kittens is exactly the kind of a woman his father told him to marry.

They find a priest who speaks german to marry them, and the priest asks her whether she's not bothered or concerned by the fact that he is not a christian. He did, in fact, offer to convert to christianity, but she tells him that if he would only be doing it for her sake, and not because he genuinely believed in the same God in the same way she does, he should not, because she would rather marry a man who is not christian at all than a false christian. He respected this, and decided not to convert.

Irate at the question, she replies to the priest that there are plenty of perfectly good reasons why she's probably going to Hell, and if the one damn thing would bar her from there is this man, then she's not fucking going. Her first husband was a good man, but not a godly one, and a man not worth going to Hell for is not a man worth marrying. Besides, he is the only one in this cursed land (the german conversations do get translated to english, and while she does not curse as fluently in german, she refers to the US as "this cursed land" in both languages she speaks) who ever made the effort to learn how to pronounce her name.

While the officiating of their relationship is very close to the end of the story, and most of their happily ever after is left to carry on after the story itself has ended, it's still shown that she takes up the task of learning chinese - and despite of her atrociously bad grammar and pronunciation, is willing to actually also speak it. It's also shown that besides her name, he has learned two words in finnish: "Vaimo. Rauhoitu." While this, too, is never translated, the words seem to have the almost supernatural power to stop Annikki from needlessly tearing into whoever she was ripping into, and getting her to calm down - something that no force on earth could do otherwise.

Though he's willing to explain that those are words that she taught her, and something her first husband also used to say to, he refuses to tell anyone what they mean, and not only because knowing secrets amuses him - something that everyone knows about him. She does not wish to be known or understood, and he respects her privacy.

Some blurbs about Silm headcanon and interpretations that I DON'T enjoy.

I mean, why bother talking about stuff I don't like? But here's some random hump day chit chat. These are just my preferences so I hope people can just fun-read this.

Feanorians forcefully taking the twins: Technically, they end up taking Elrond&Elros away from their people, but I personally don't enjoy the interpretation/characterization of murder bros cruelly/violently taking the kids. My personal interpretation is that Maedhros and Maglor didn't mean to take the kids, but by the time they were done in Sirion, everyone--including their remaining brothers--was dead and Elwing was gone with the Silmaril. So the brothers took the twins as a sort of selfish/twisted repentance. They remember what happened to Elured and Elurin back in Doriath, so maybe that played into their decision. Though their act in the end is as noble as someone running a mother cat over and adopting the kittens, I don't think the two brothers stooped so low as to actually rip away the children from their mother or use them as bargaining chips.

Elwing vs. Feanorians/good vs. evil trope: I don't really find pure, innocent Elwing against evil Feanorians trope that interesting personally. I also don't enjoy Elwing the tragic holy mother characterization. While I don't think she's "bad" for "choosing Silmaril over her kids," I don't think she's a kind of loving, tragic mother either. I always enjoyed portrayals of "less than perfect" moms Tolkien's texts. Elwing loved her kids, but her husband likely mattered to her more. She likes having a family with him, but if she had to choose between being with her husband or her kids, she would probably choose the former. She chooses to stay with her husband after Ulmo turns her into a bird, and Earendil basically chooses Elven fate over Men's fate for her sake. I think for Elwing, who had a pretty depressing life, Earendil was her hope and light, and nobody could take his role, even her own sons. Anyway, I really enjoy seeing women who are not "my kids are my everything" once in a while. As an extension of this, I don't enjoy Elwing bickering with Feanorians and all that drama either.

Maglor being an innocent victim in the final act: I don't think Maglor was an unwilling victim/participant when he and Maedhros went to steal the Silmarils nor was he ever a victim in any of the kinslayings. He probably didn't enjoy any of it, but he knew he couldn't escape the Oath alone so he decided to just face it. He knew what was coming, but he didn't want to leave his brother alone or betray him. So he joins in knowing this would only end badly. Btw I think Maedhros is the type to unalive himself when he's faced with overwhelming tragedy/guilt, but Maglor is the type to live forever in misery because he thinks he deserves an eternity of punishment.

oh boy this is a loaded question 😂 i am purely a watcher of the show, i have not read the books — and honestly, jenny han has literally said that the show is how she would write the story today vs over ten years ago when the books came out, so take with that what you will (also here's jelly vs bonrad)

i want to start this off by just saying i don't HATE jeremiah (i know i say that i do a lot but that's mostly just me being funny and i won't apologize for that 💅🏼) and while i honestly don't like him right now, i don't think he's a bad person and lbr all of these characters could benefit from some self-improvement via therapy. i'm also going to refrain from labeling any characters/relationships as "toxic" or "abusive" because frankly i think people (usually tiktok girlies that are clearly chronically online) overuse and misuse the term so that it's lost all meaning, and i'm not a psychiatrist 🤷🏻‍♀️ this is simply my interpretation and analysis of a tv show that i enjoy watching

if you love jeremiah, all power to ya!! i'm not going to tell you that you need "professional help" or to "reevaluate yourself" (like some people love to tell random strangers on the internet). these are fictional characters — they are quite literally not real and if you like some, cool. if you don't like some, cool. if you disagree with my interpretations, cool!! i genuinely do not care as long as you mind your business and stay in your lane

i'm going to say right off the bat that the biggest reason i prefer conrad is simply that i gravitate towards that kind of character, i don't know why but it's just a common theme among my faves

going into season two, i was/am team conrad but i honestly loved jeremiah!! that quickly changed and honestly when i rewatched season one, i saw the same behaviors and didn't like him as much. also, none of my criticism of jeremiah is meant to say that conrad is perfect and has never done anything wrong (even though he IS perfect and has NEVER done anything wrong 😜)

most of the issues i have with jeremiah all come back to one thing: his feelings of inadequacy and jealousy when it comes to conrad

manipulative: when he sees belly and conrad about to kiss, he sabotages it with the fireworks, then tries to play it off as an accident and like he didn't see them when conrad mentions it. at this point, he knows that belly has always had a crush on conrad but now he knows to a degree that it's reciprocated. he then proceeds to go out of his way to sabotage them, like when he goes to nicole and gets her to invite conrad to that music festival (which, also not cool to play nicole like that), though i will admit that conrad self-sabotaging ruining things with belly had nothing to do with jeremiah

guilt-tripping: this sort of goes hand-in-hand with being manipulative. on MULTIPLE occasions, he purposefully makes belly feel uncomfortable and guilty for simply being happy with conrad. some examples:

thanksgiving — she drops conrad's hand after jere stares at them from across the table, they separate and she intentionally steps away from conrad when jere walks into the room, he tells conrad to "warn him" when belly is literally just going to be there

road trip to brown — he is passive aggressive in the car ("we don't talk about you"), he gives her the biggest eye roll/side-eye when trusky mentions conrad being depressed over the break up, he makes her feel terrible about "not being there for him" even though he was literally the one ignoring her when she said she had been reaching out multiple times. i understand that they are best friends and he was also struggling, there's no doubt about that, but she is ONE PERSON (who is also struggling, mind you) and OF COURSE she is going to be there for her BOYFRIEND

everything since then — multiple times throughout the rest of the season, he gives belly dirty looks any time she merely breathes in the direction of conrad, he interrupts them anytime they're talking (like in the party store) with a nasty look/tone, he goes to belly after her fight with laurel to be "supportive" and then shuts her down when she tries to talk about her feelings simply because she brings up conrad (which was very relevant to the conversation so like??), he gives belly a dirty look when conrad GIVES HER A SWEATSHIRT BECAUSE SHE WAS CHILLY. she is immediately uncomfortable and self-conscious of her actions every single time, even when SHE'S NOT EVEN DATING CONRAD ANYMORE and none of the interactions were explicitly "romantic"

playing the victim: again, goes hand-in-hand with my previous points. not only did he know that belly has always had a crush on conrad, but he literally watched them almost kiss. then the next night, he tells belly he likes her and they kiss. then when she later tells him that she kissed conrad, he acts like he had no idea that she liked conrad and was completely deceived (this is not me saying that belly didn't do him dirty — she did!! and i DO truly feel bad for him, but they weren't dating and he knew full well that she was rejected by conrad immediately before they proceeded to get together) and throws the fact that his "mom has cancer" in her face to make her feel like a bad person. i get that he was upset, rightfully so, but that was still messed up. conrad also did NOTHING WRONG here!! he had no idea that jeremiah liked belly or that they kissed when he kissed her, was not angry when belly told him about kissing jere, asked her who she wanted to be with, and then respected her decision to not date in order to spare jere's feelings. jeremiah acting all pissy towards conrad was not deserved. i understand him being annoyed when conrad asked him for his blessing, but if he truly cared about them, he would want them to be happy together instead of spending the next few months pouting and ignoring them

jealousy: all of this comes back to the fact that he is extremely jealous of conrad. having an older sister, i get it — i sympathize with always being compared, feeling like they're better at everything, and trying to live up to that. he feels like conrad is better at everything and is everyone's first choice (which... he is 😬) but like... that's a YOU problem. conrad didn't do anything to him!!

the conrad of it all: he constantly talks shit about conrad and doesn't even try to understand where he's coming from, which i understand to an extent because he is justifiably hurt, but calling conrad the selfish one is literally LAUGHABLE. even though he may have been misguided, everything conrad did was to try to protect jeremiah from pain. he has had an immense amount of pressure put on him by his father (and others) to be the perfect one that is always looking out for and protecting the younger ones. he suffered in silence for months after finding out about susannah's cancer/adam cheating, both to give susannah the last perfect summer she wanted and to protect jere from everything. same thing with the house — he thought that he could handle it by himself and that it would be protecting the rest of them to do it by himself. he had to deal with all of the guilt of not being able to be there for susannah as much as he wanted because of college, and he literally had a panic attack at the thought of leaving jeremiah to go to stanford. jeremiah constantly bringing up that belly and conrad broke up (when it's none of his damn business and he even admitted he didn't know what happened between them) ESPECIALLY in regard to conrad not being around when susannah was sick because HE WAS AT SCHOOL and "always with belly" is so fucked up. everyone was struggling and doing their best, including jeremiah, and that was just not cool. belly's actions ("not being there for jeremiah") are not conrad's fault.

because of his jealousy towards literally every single thing conrad says or does, he doesn't care that belly makes conrad happy (and vice versa), he gives absolutely zero consideration to conrad's feelings when deciding to go after belly (also neither does belly but that's a whole other post). conrad has now apologized to both belly and jeremiah on multiple occasions and started doing some serious self-reflection. jeremiah has not apologized ONCE for the shit he’s said and done.

i have said it before and i stand by it: conrad wants belly to be happy while jeremiah only wants belly to be happy if it's with him

(and no, his conversation with conrad in the finale doesn't change my mind because i simply didn't believe him)

IN CONCLUSION, people are entitled to their wrong opinions but conrad fisher remains superior now and forever and he deserves so much better and no i don't take questions or criticism because i'm right

I’m looking to either write a crime filled story set in a regular every day world — or something set in a dystopian world where things are much more cruel and harsh with crime so out of control it’s basically legal, if you don’t kill then you’ll be killed, all the morals are spun around. Just a wicked world where you have to bury all weaknesses and vulnerability and be willing to kill to survive.

I’m looking for all sorts of plots and dynamics! We can come up with whatever best fits with our two characters, otherwise here’s a few ideas I like:

- Rival gang members

- Always love a classic kidnapping/non con based plot

- Vampires! Werewolves! Monsters!

- I always love post apocalyptic world plots too

- I live for toxic and abusive relationships!

Those are just some I can think of!

My character’s story/life will slightly vary depending on which way we go. And I also use an rl faceclaim, though you don’t need to. But a little about him: He is ftm and gay. He stands around 4’10” - 5 ft. He’s untrusting, stubborn, introverted, pessimistic, cold, paranoid, and violent. Can be insolent but he just doesn’t know when to shut his mouth. He definitely doesn’t know when to back down either. He loves to play with fire so to speak. He works in an underground and very much illegal fight club. Very much unstable, both mind and home life. He’s got a rough background; his family was poor white trash. ( Plays into why he’s so short & near petite, lack of nutrition amongst other factors like an ed. ) His mother wasn’t very present; his dad is a bum, an addict, and generally a pos; and his older sister was cruel to him growing up. He works at the club to pay for his testosterone, help his mom out, & for spare stuff for himself of course. He’s a popular fighter because it’s unexpected he’ll win if he does — but he also doesn’t back down, so it’s good entertainment. And in an alternate dystopian world, he still works for the fight club but it’s a ruse, he actually works for a promising and powerful gang and is at the very top next to the leader — his loyal mutt if you will. And he is a bottom and sub, but by no means will he submit easily or will be a soft boy.

hiii!! i love your fics for both fandoms, especially love the way you write relationships!!; don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, but do you have any tips for writing cedjeschris? i’m… trying something out…

As for tips for writing cedjesschris, I guess I can try typing out the general things I myself keep in mind while writing! 👀

For one, Cédric is very much a "actions speak louder than words" type of person! He's the guy who rented out an entite shopping district because Eva and Christelle wanted to take Jesse out shopping but couldn't due to the complicated nature as a foreign prince and diplomatic hostage! He's also the type of person that logically knows that, as a hostage, Jesse technically isn't supposed to be keeping gifts but because Jesse is his friend, Ced lies and tells him "your assigned imperial vaults are too full" just so he can keep the girls' presents :') Cédric is a stoic and socially inept guy but he is an INCREDIBLY good guy deep down,not to mention a man of duty, filial to his parents+godmother, and considerate of his friends. He's also childish, so not making him an emotionless robot is good to keep in mind because that guy is actually the most emotional out of the trio when you think about it xDD

For Christelle, she might be the easiest to write 🤔 She's a very positive and energetic person, and is the type of gal that you'd easily get along with, with her emotional intelligence being one of her strongest fortes that makes up in her high EQ for where Ced is lacking :') <3 Being able to seamlessly incorporate pop culture references to fit her sense of humour and her context as a modern day Korean woman of the 21st century is also p important to keep in mind (which is hilarious, because no one else but her (and Jesse but she doesnt know he knows—particularly at the start of the novel) understands, so in-universe people just sort accept that she says all these wild nonsensical modern things and goes along with her 😂) She cares a lot for Jesse and sees him as a precious friend that she needs to grow stronger to protect (such is her instincts as a Holy Knight) and while she does fight a lot with Cédric, they both have a relationship of mutual respect and acknowledgment, no matter how much they bite or grab at each other's hair while sparring. ((One other key aspect about her character tho is Ham Ga-in's underlying worry that the original Christelle might one day come back to claim her rightful place, so Ga-in is actually very cautious and careful about her life sometimes, because she can never be too sure whether or not "the original Christelle will like [so and so decision that Ga-in makes]". For example, Chris keeps her hair long despite preferring short hair/easy to maintain hair, because it's not Ham Ga-in's hair, but og!Christelle's. She feels like she is "borrowing"/"has stolen" someone's body, so Christelle does her best to give her body a good life and make good decisions, so that if og!Christelle comes back, she will be happy since Ga-in took care of her life well. Ham Ga-in is actually a very complicated and complex character underneath her happy, simple, and cheerful exterior 😭)))

And finally Jesse!!! Surprisingly, he might be the hardest to write, because I feel that it's very easy for people (myself included haha!!) to fall into the trap of portraying him as a completely pure, good, and innocent person (i lose several years off my life whenever I see someone describe him as a Gary Sue too btw). Jung Yeseo is just as much of a modern-day man as Christelle, and while he's definitely way softer in temperament and can be dense, he also doesn't hesitate to privately insult and drag people through the mud in his head 😂 He's surprisingly very snarky (especially towards Cédric)! He just holds himself back because of his position as "Prince Jesse" so he can't act as casual and childish as he typically would xDD And he is definitely not a doormat—I think it's important to mention that Jung Yeseo was a law student, so that sort of gives context as to what kind of person he is. He is righteous in his own sense and can be hard-headed, and rather than being all-forgiving, he is capable of punishing and being stern when called for—a good balance on the scale of justice, shall we say (think of his reaction to Synkie and Peter! They tried to assassinate him so he acknowledges they should be justly punished, but he is also aware of the fact that they are children, and well, we all know that Jesse has a soft spot for children and animals due to his nature as a kind and caring older brother.) Jung Yeseo is a very good person and his kindness and gentle nature plays a big part in his personality, but he's so much more nuanced than his saintly image. Empress Fred even once said his stubbornness to win arguments reminded her of her husband! xD Yeseo is very smart, and while he has a better grip on his emotions than Cédric, he is dense in a comedic way (especially towards sexual advances + in terms of self-awareness) and can be awkward, but it's always enjoyable when people portray him with his snarkiness and subtle sharpness!

As for their dynamic as a whole, it's nice to remember that, while all three of them are adults above their mid-20s (Christelle is physically 19 but mentally in her 30s) they are also pretty childish for their age. It helps that the genre is lighthearted than other webnovels where each chara seems to be riddled with angst. CedJessChris' dynamic feels like three friends who have finally be set loose upon meeting each other, after a long life of hardships and shackles! They cause chaos and trouble, and feel very realistic in their friendship with the way they bond and have heart to hearts. Jesse is usually the mediator for CedChris' frenemies rivalry, but Cédric can also play the role of the only sane person when ChrisJess are up to their plotting shenanigans. And when CedJess fight, we can always count on Chris to be the one to set them straight, as well. They have a very balanced relationship!

I feel like I'm starting to go off way too long now LMFAOOJFJDKLD but yeah!!!!! A lot of what I've said are some of things that I try to keep in mind while writing, so I hope you might find them useful in any way, as well!! 😭👌 I'm curious about that something you say you're trying out 👀👀

Do you think that most D**ir shippers are Dan fans rather than Blair l fans?

I am going forward with the rewatch and I have been reading stuff here andvon other platforms and I have noticed that most D**ir focus on what Dan feels or what Dan does for Blair, ignoring Blair's emotional and mental state at the time

Furthermore they seem to want to rid Blair from all the things that make her Blair (like her ruthlessness and scheming)

Idk... For me Blair wouldn't be Blair without the good and the bad. So it makes me wonder if these people just.... Don't like Blair very much.....

hi!! this is such a good question tysm and this is gonna be long so I hope u don't mind 🫶🏻 I think generally yes d*ir fans do seem to be more fans of dan than they are of blair, and I think there are a few reasons (that I've seen) for this. some of it comes from penn badgley fans as a lot of ppl who discovered him from you on netflix have then watched gg and like dan purely bc it's him. some of it also comes from this rehash of the idea that chuck's "bad" bc of the pilot and ignoring his development, and dan's "good" bc... he's not chuck lol.

ur right in that a lot of them don't want blair to be, well, herself. as I said in my other meta post there's a lot of focus on how blair's "better" when she's with dan. she doesn't scheme, she doesn't do anything, really, except from talk about movies and artists. they think that this watered down version of blair is her true self, even though if u watch the previous 4 and a half seasons it's obvious that's just not true. they want blair to be this girl who's content to spend her days visiting museums and waiting around for dan who she's clearly not. there's nothing wrong with her that dan needs to fix, and chuck didn't corrupt her. she can be interested in art and movies and still scheme and be mean. there's no mutual exclusivity to any of her personality traits, they can all co-exist and are what make her blair. like chuck said in s2 it's stupid to want her to be anything other than what she is.

also, ur so right again in that they ignore blair's mental state. she's obviously not in a good place in s5 and probably shouldn't jump into any relationship after her divorce. but dan pushes her into it. throughout the show she belittles him, insults him, makes fun of serena dating him, and generally just doesn't like him. while they're dating she still doesn't seem that keen on him. there's talk of how she's happier and smiling all the time with dan, but she's not. she effectively throws a tantrum being seen out with him and she can't celebrate his career, she instead undermines and upstages him. her behaviour doesn't seem like someone who's found her perfect match. it seems like someone who's in a confusing transitional period of her life and clings to the nearest man, like she did with carter in s2. if dan was this great perfect man he'd say he couldn't date her right away, let her sort herself out. but no, he forces her to be more than just friends bc, where she's so isolated from everyone else, if she loses him then she loses her only support system (the fact that she becomes so reliant on dan humphrey in the wake of her miscarriage is something for another post) so she kind of has to get into a relationship with him, even though she's not ready mentally.

in terms of liking blair, I think that most d*ir fans like their own version of blair, instead of the canon version. this might be connected to them often preferring dan, and then they just project traits onto blair that aren't hers. I don't know why they don't do this to serena btw, bc her relationship with dan is significantly more important, and she was far more willing to do "ordinary" things with him than blair. ultimately I think they want d*ir, and blair individually, to be something they're not and were never going to be. d*ir isn't sethmer or paceyjoey or whoever else they compare them to. blair isn't someone they can shape into fitting their ideas like dan does, she's her own distinct character and if they don't like her then they should admit it instead of mischaracterising her

purposefully dumb ooc ow hcs my friends and i discussed:

🦊‼️ shimada brothers + kiriko edition

hanzo & genji do like bbq actually. genji prefers honey bbq the most though; contrary to hanzo's favored type. it's not like they constantly argue or anything but it's up to you if they reach an agreement. kiriko's a ranch type of girl fr. for chips? kiriko's sour cream n onion (not self projection).

"oh hey guys so uh haha i got some chips for us!" kiriko pipes up, accidentally walking into a provoking conversation the shimada brothers were discussing (honey bbq vs standard??). they both turn around and look at her; the girl holding an ever-so familiar green bag—sour cream and onion flavoured chips.

hanzo drinks coke and genji has sam's cola as his fave (they're literally like the same i think). kiriko prefers pepsico products because they're sweeter to her (pepsi, dr. pepper, mtn dew). also genji would like lemon lime stuff maybe possibly indefinitely.

also hc that he probably was a soda junkie or something in his youth. over time though he kinda savors it like a "fine wine"; where he'd prefer to not have it by himself. rather, he'd drink it to complement a certain food he's having. this one actually makes sense somehow.

hanzo's a playstation person, genji's xbox, and kiriko's nintendo. basically colour coded fr. apparently also: hanzo's pc, genji's console, and kiriko's mobile. though, my friend INSISTS that genji's a mobile player (he plays mobile fortnite and probs got that samsung galaxy skin).

hanzo plays fortnite also to "practice his aim". genji (un)ironically gets all of the anime collab skins and somehow is goated with pickaxing the poor players early on. kiriko is their supplies manager and carries all of their meds and shields because the brothers are busy collecting all of the cool broken guns.

i'm unsure who'd be super good at building. i feel like they'd purposefully play on no build because "only the most talented players don't rely on building" or something dumb as kiriko instinctively pressed the buttons to build stairs as they get third-partied.

btw kiriko loves driving cars esp the fast sports ones and makes one of them sit on top of oit (since only two players max can get on it). she interrupts battles that other plays are in and has genji and hanzo pick off the surviving ones like little scavengers.

they're so good and can actually get into comp stuff, but they'd rather not since they're "lighthearted" (hanzo's upset he's getting bot lobbies and genji's getting reported for "hacking" whilst kiriko's the string holding the whole team together).

if they played splatoon obvs you can tell hanzo's stringer, genji's splatana and maybe kiriko's something supportive like n-zap whilst still having great frontline potential.

i know a lottt more about 2 than 3 actually. i'd say maybe genji would like things with echolocator even if that's more of a widow thing. i thought of reg. squiffer first but that's my main but i think mainly it's how genji can rush in and w aggressive front/mid-line squiffers you just see them go in and out of the ink, trying to kill you w either trickshots or something dumb (it's ok ily guys). also genji's ranged too as well.

maybe also he might play roller because 1: technically melee (his sword) + in reference to his shurikens, the vertical and horizontal spray of the roller can be in reference to his. or maybe he's ANNOYING and plays carbon roller (deco) with ninja squid. ninja squid.

hanzo plays pure mpu bamboozler and then shits on other players for having pure gear because "it's way more affective to have a mixed, sorted array subs instead of trying to make it all the same"/j

tbh the whole "genji, hanzo and kiriko" stuff is just literally splatoon 3 splatfests honestly. hanzo's vanilla ice cream, genji's chocolate, and kiriko's strawberry. i don't know how to explain it.

The academies are purely fanon, here's the info we get:

The exceptions are the kids from the wealthier districts, the volunteers, the ones who have been fed and trained throughout their lives for this moment. The tributes from 1, 2, and 4 traditionally have this look about them. It’s technically against the rules to train tributes before they reach the Capitol but it happens every year.

I understand how people read this and picture academies for the career districts, but the given text does not necessarily imply that to be the case, rather instead opening up room for interpretation that can range from "this might just be a casual thing you can do with a trainer" to "kids who pass some school exam are removed to an academy boarding school".

I'm not that much into the career fandom scene, so I do not have a preference one way or another, but I'm insanely attached to clarifying what is and is not canon, because throughout the years I've seen this fandom at times falsely assume some fanon to be truthful when it's not, and not at all times is it made clear.

Same goes for the volunteering process. People have, sort of, decided that it is somewhat accepted fanon that people are pre-selected, i.e. that only one person at a time volunteers in those career districts. I disagree with them, because:

In some districts, in which winning the reaping is such a great honor, people are eager to risk their lives, the volunteering is complicated.

The volunteering is complicated.

If the volunteering were pre-selected, then all Katniss would see on screen is that one singular person volunteers. That's it. How exactly is that complicated again?

And if we were to assume Katniss would have knowledge of those (fanon) career academies--instead of what she is actually saying btw, which just means seeing very well prepared tributes every year and can easily allude to them having trained prior!--, then she somehow also would have insight on how their volunteering process works by having the tributes be pre-selected. But... how? She's an isolated girl from District 12, the few people from 12 who have been outside of its boundaries (not accounting the woods here), are a handful of people. The mayor. Haymitch. Why would either of them be interested in gaining insight on this and then, on top, be interested in sharing it with others so much so that it reaches Katniss? And If Katniss somehow knows, then the rest of Panem does absolutely know as well, but that seems a knowledge the Capitol wouldn't want the other Districts to have (see next paragraph as to why).

There's of course the option that Katniss heard of it on the television, i.e. careers in the Games talking about it. But why would they if it is illegal? And if they did, wouldn't the Capitol pull some consequences out of it, considering that the Games are supposed to be a punishment and people on screen literally just heard on how they, too!!, can trick the oppressive system?

I appreciate the idea and it would make sense for them to pre-select, but then you'd only need a few people who trained THEIR WHOLE LIFE for those Games be upset that they weren't chosen and volunteer anyway. No one can really punish them for it, because they are--technically--already being punished and possibly sent to their death.

A lot of accepted fanon in this fandom, not to be a hater, comes from when the majority of the fandom was 13 years old and did perhaps not have the insight to critically contemplate on totalitarian regimes and their structures, and a lot of the Career District fanon really... feels like that (my fanon from back then, too, btw! like Caesar used to be a chain smoker who got three lungs replaced already because he kept getting cancer. I wanted to be edgy).

From what I'm reading in the text, I'd just think that a name gets drawn and several people immediately scream that they would volunteer. And that the Capitol has had to do live recordings with analysis on who exactly screamed those words out first, meaning that this is exactly why it's complicated: To figure out who said something first. This sort of reminds me of football analysis, where cameras and professionals at times analyse if a ball was really inside the goal and it can take a couple of minutes to determine it. That's exactly what I picture in the career districts to happen.

& everything in this book is a parallel to real life, but of course this time around I'd definitely say that it's no surprise that the military is recruiting at video game events nor investing in shooters c;

HERES SOME SPOOKYMONTH CHARACTERS AND POKEMON I THINK THEY’D LIKE/HAVE ON THEIR TEAM AND OTHER GOOFY POKEMON STUFFS

(doesn’t include any pokemon from s/v since i havent played it yet)

Lila- Wouldn’t really have a specific preference in pokemon type, but she would have a preference in quadpedal pokemon or medium to small size pokemon. SHE WOULD DEFINETLY HAVE A SMERGLE FUCK YOU! SHE WOULD!!! DONT ASK WHY IM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS!!!! Other pokemon she may have include duskull, eevee (maybe), lillipup, murkrow, and spritzi (idfk know how you spell it, but the tiny birb thing!). She prefers to do rotation battles and mainly uses stat changing attacks and sp defense boosters.

Skid- Dark/Ghost type pokemon and maybe some fairy/rock/ground types. No big preference in the pokemons’ physical traits, but likes to be able to ride them around for fun. Main pokepartner would be a Drifloon/Drifblin or Gengar. Other pokemon he may have would be bannette, litwick/lampent, phantump, mawhile, whimsicott, and morelull/shiinotic. Has a preference for double battles, but also likes to do it with multiple trainers (so like him and pump vs two other ppl, pretty sure its called a multibattle but i dont wanna check). Mostly uses offensive moves that deal some sort of personal stat change, but also favors status effect moves.

Dad guy (i dont think he haves a name… dad guy? Dad guy!)- Dark type pokemon, maybe some psychic and ghost types thrown in there. All of them are pure type btw. Main pokemon are Banette and Corsola (galarian form to be specific). He has only those two pokemon. Like they’re the only two that stay on his team, if he has other pokemon, he’s just borrowing them from his followers or some other means. Legally he only owns those two. He has a preference for status effect moves and gives his pokemon many herbs and powders rather than potions and sprays. Loves single battles, but he also enjoys the idea of cornering trainers and beating their pokemon to the ground in double battles too. Banned from the GTS.

Mr. Wonder/Gramps- He doesn’t have a type or appearance preference, but normal types seem to really like him for whatever reason. For his main pokepartner has a furfrou with no special haircut, but it’s definitely in need of a trim bc that bitch is LOOOONG!!!!! He personally doesn’t like to battle his pokemon, he just likes to relax and cuddle with ‘em. Other pokemon he has are pidov, dunsparce, komala, and minccino.

Pump- He likes ghost and psychic (and maybe some dark types) pokemon!! His main partner is a surprisingly a miltank. Like imagine fighting a trainer with some neat ghost pokemon then BOOM miltank (i have personal beef against miltank which we will NOT get into). Anyway- Some pokemon on his team are Murkrow, espeon, abra, and dusclops! Has no preference for pokemon battles or move types. He does give his pokemon items to hold that look nice (which sometimes affects their stats).

Susie- No type preference, she likes unevolved pokemon (like still base form). She main pokepartner is a skitty she’s had for- i dunno but it’s really long time. She also has an eevee. She doesn’t really battle (she thinks they’re boring), but she does enjoy signing her pokemon up for contests bc she likes to dress em up and make them look pretty :•]

I’ve been sitting on this for a few days now, unsure if I should even bother saying anything, since my opinion tends to be overlooked by the masses. But I’ve decided to respond to a post of yours I saw a few days ago, one you had re-blogged regarding ”blushing” in Reader fics. This is my personal take on the matter.

The last thing I—someone who is of Hispanic descent—pay attention to, is this sort of thing. I still blush. A blush, is still a blush. My cheeks still get red. It’s just less noticeable because of the color of my skin. Honestly, the last thing I’m paying attention to is whether or not a writer says “blush” in a reader fic. I’m more interested in the actual plot, not details such as this. The same thing with hair. I’m not paying attention to that. I care about the story, not simple details like this. I want to see the world the writer has created, to see what their imagination came up with.

Please know that I say all of this with the utmost respect. I’m not trying to tell you or anyone else what to think or how to write. I want people to write the story they want to write, and if this is what they want to do, that’s fine. But don’t do it in an attempt to placate people like me. Not everyone thinks like this, not everyone pays attention to this, and that’s all this ask is meant to show. A different perspective.

Hello anon, sorry for the delay - I simply had to sit on this for a while and think about just how to answer this without possibly causing any upset or offence.

This is not to criticize you at all anon, btw, and I really appreciate your time to send this to me!! I think it's a discussion that should be opened to all reader-insert writers.

(long-ish answer incoming.)

I appreciate (?) that you are caring more for the plot - I suppose - in people's fics, or in reader-inserts as I think plot (regardless of whether it's a ship or a self-insert) is what is taking up the majority of the oneshot, headcanon, series, etc. Plot carries more, uh, importance, per se.

Some people, however, do feel (and are entitled to) invalidated, excluded - or even in extreme cases - discriminated in this situation.

There is a reason why people read self-inserts and it's so they feel more connected to the canon in plot (be it through the canon or a Modern AU.) And writing certain hairstyles and limiting certain bodily functions by capping the descriptions of - like your example: blushing - these things to just colour rather than let's say the feeling (e.g. "heat rose to your cheeks" > "your face flushed beet red" ; the first description is far more inclusive because some people's faces will simply not change colour.)

Again, with the hair. Especially in AoT canonverse which I typically write in, I tend to write the (AFAB) reader's hair with the ability to be tied up. I don't mean to, I just simply imagine people's hair, if long, should be tied up because there's no way in hell I'd want that tangled up in my ODM gear, haha! But some AFAB readers have short hair. What about the trans women whom I may write for who might have short(er) hair? I have no idea how to check the demographics to see if there are any trans women reading my works, but to cater to people of all races and genders, I must assume and therefore, make my works as inclusive as possible. (NB: This isn't to say all trans women I have met have short(er) hair than their cis counterparts; I have a few friends who are trans men with long hair and short hair, similarly I have a few friends who are trans women with long hair and short hair too - purely generalising, nothing to do with the gender of hair. Gosh okay, this conversation is heading into dangerous territory) What about people who even have no hair? Or who simply prefer short hair? I don't want anyone feeling a disconnect whilst reading my content.

I don't want to sound like a typical "alpha-male podcast" when I say this, but this is a highly nuanced take. Not nuanced in the sense that I shouldn't be inclusive, but not everyone's definition of writing in an inclusive way matches up. I'm not sure/how we can get to that stage. That's what I mean by nuance.

I am not trying to make an example out of you, anon. You just brought up a great point! I, a cis, white female - I know it says she/they in my profile; gender is a spectrum and I am ever exploring it - cannot possibly understand what it is to be a POC or someone who struggles a lot with their gender identity.

It is really hard to come up with a way to be inclusive for every single person. I will still make mistakes, even if I try my damnest not to. If you guys spot a mistake or a passage of writing that is not so inclusive/could be more inclusive, please just shoot me an ask/DM!

...and about the party drugs then im done i swear: it's weird. i don't have a hypersensitivity to stimulants in the same way that you describe but i do get what you mean. especially mdma im careful about. it's so potent i think of it quite similarly as acid, with certain reverence. i have never done straight up mdma crystals but have taken ecstasy tablets a couple times. i think it was always a half pill tho and still somewhat intense/scary(?). i would probably do it again in limited company rather than at a party with strangers. but coke! my god. coke is my special friend, so misunderstood by everyone </3 personally, i think coke (and i mean nice & pure, preferably cakey but like at least beyond 70% pure) is actually much more like opiates than ppl realize. in my mind they are like siblings, coke being the more high-strung one ofc. but what they have in common is the shedding of doubt & negativity & other irrelevant distractions; an enhanced version of reality (without introducing novel or false elements as such, apart from the emphasis on the nice things) ppl use coke as a party drug but imo it's kinda wasteful. it's such a verbal drug. i think it's ideal for stimulating conversation or even writing

ye see i believe/would agree w u on the coke issue (x not so much, i bet that shit would stimulate my ass directly into a seizure.. still worth to try but def not now). except ime stimulants that dont seriously fuck me up, which i imagine coke wouldnt (like adhd scripts, yes ive tried abusing them, no it doesnt do anything except make me sick to the stomach and vibrate uncomfortably. i dont feel high or energetic in fact sorta lethargic however stimulants will not let u sleep). oh yea btw acid is a stimulant, never ever take it past afternoon unless you want to be horrifically exhausted after ur trip lets off the next morning. trips last up to 12 hrs, do NOT dose late. sincerely, me who dosed at like 8 in the evening and felt like death the next morning without a wink of sleep. but yea anyway. i believe what u say ab coke but i feel like it just wouldnt do it for me and i wouldnt feel those prosocial sort of invulnerable feeling effects. still again worth at least 1 try but unfortunately my body simply does not fw stimulants

Girlies names and how they're related to The Fisherman

There's his older sister (who I'm still deciding if she's his twin or not) Maris Anstice, with Anstice being her married surname, who is forced to live in a different state because of marriage but also because of her medical condition, so she has easier access to medical assistance if needed She still tries to support her little brother by occasionally calling him or sending him money, cause her husband is oblivious to the whole thing she and her bro are up to but at least he's rich, but she can't send it like every month because it would look sussy, so she usually sends it along with a postal card as a sort of disguise

Other than that, the real big thing she has done for "the cause" is how she secretly raised her daughter

The Fisherman's niece, named Lavender Marina Anstice, who has only ever had contact with her uncle whenever her mom would pass her the phone, but she's going to visit him very soon after she finally reaches 16, because her dad is very protective of his only child so insisted that it be that way

Still figuring out the bigger aspects of her character, but the ones that I have already is that she's somewhat technophobic when it comes to stuff that came after 1995, her "cultist personality" is either the cause or was exacerbated by her hatred of American society, which btw she prefers Germany, and she prefers spicy food over candy, like pumpkin pie over any type of chocolate She's fluent in German because her grandpa is from Germany, though she has the typical struggle of sometimes getting both languages a bit messed up, and she has a personal mixtape that, excluding Pink Floyd's "Another Brick on the Wall", is purely German rock and metal (I'm making it on my Spotify actually!)

Also she was born in 1987. It wasn't the bite, it was the birth!

made a joke about being trans to my younger step sister who kept referring to me solely as her sister. the joke was an attempt to remind her that i'm pangender, being told i was her sister or "the closest thing" she had to one, it was pretty uncomfortable. it makes me antsy to be seen as so feminine without anything else mixed in. i just don't like it.

course she already has a complex relationship with having a sister as one of her brothers is trans, and it came up in conversation that she didn't really have any, idk, feminine peers in her household before? and she listed her older brother, and the youngest and made no mention of her previously mentioned trans middle brother, so i tried to remind her "hey i'm trans too, i'm 99% sure i actually won't be able to relate to you as fellow females or whatever the fuck your trying to imply here" without, yknow, saying that since she is quite a bit younger than me, but old enough (12) that she should have gotten my incredibly heavy handed hint about how she didn't mention middle brother in her list

i know she's just wee but she frustrates me so much, she desperately wants me to fill this mythical role of older sister that i am just not capable of for a variety of reasons nor would i feel comfortable doing so for a whole host of other ones both of which meet in the middle saying in big bold text "i'm fucking trans"

one of the reasons this makes me so uncomfortable is that she is clearly trying to fill the 'gap' her middle brother left when he transitioned and her 'fix' for this is boxing me into feminine ideals and using me to feel like a big mature girl who talks to her 'older sister' to solve problems, and she heavily implied she lacked the ability to relate to her brothers due to differences in puberty which is just. no. i would not feel comfortable discussing my experiences actually, and i don't like how she feels this kinship with me and entitlement to my experiences purely because of my biological sex

i feel way more comfortable in the middle ground as sibling rather than sister, or even brother, both gendered terms feel too far if i'm honest, which is peculiar for the masculine one, i can be iffy about feminine terms but pretty comfortable using most masculine ones

she treats me like i'm the key to some sort of milestone, i try to talk to her about things other than the fact that we happen to share a biological sex but she generally manages to bring it back to "were both girls" and, i mean, she barely even tries to get to know me. i think she prefers to version of me in her head since the real me snaps at her in the kitchen when she keeps looking at me, the real me doesn't have time to talk to any of them since i'm busy with other things and she seems to take it personally, the real me sometimes doesn't really want to be their older step sibling. the one question she has asked me, twice btw, unrelated to my "being a girl" is "what's your favourite colour" which is not a crap question because it can lead to an interesting talk. except. well, except for it can't lead to anything of substance when she gets insulted when i say "i don't have one, i like seeing how beautiful any colour can look when they are treated right and put in the right hands" it doesn't lead anywhere when i get steam rolled over and ignored only for her to jubilantly claim "pink is my favourite colour" and then stop talking and look at me as if i fucked this conversation

and i know, i fucking know she's 12 i'm the one who should be making sure our interactions run smoothly but i can barely carry a conversation with anyone never mind a 12 year old who is only interested in one aspect of myself which makes me really uncomfortable sometimes, especially when it's highlighted in such a way and constantly referenced

like fucking hell i'm fine looking as femme as i do, i know my body will always tip people off and i am completely fine with that! i like my body! no dysphoria there! (unless in some clothes) but interacting with her makes me wish i didn't look like this cause maybe if i was less like this and more obviously some flavour of trans she would be less hooked on 'getting to know me' without prompting a single worthwhile conversation about either of us

and i know, its a complicated situation, its fucking difficult to get to know people in a new family unit like this but i fucking try, i try and socialise with the kids when i'm able to using card games since i don't have to talk about anything serious then, its not the best but i am fucking trying to bond with them but the age gap is too fucking difficult at times, i mean for christs sake i'm friends with my step mum! i can bloody do it just not with them its too much

especially when one of them is incredibly desperate to bond but so incredibly shit at showing it

i'm going to have to have a conversation with my dad about how she treats my gender, which might be difficult since he and my step mum are weak for me bonding with the kids as they know how difficult i find it, specially how overwhelming it is to have your opinion valued far far too much (only thing its good for is being strict in card games, if they get too loud (ow) then i just raise my voice a bit and they settle pretty quick), so telling him might be a bit upsetting for both of us cause i hate to disappoint him...

Unusual Muse Associations (Tag Game)

Thank you so much for tagging me, @rumor-imbris! (Also, check out her dazzling version with her OC Mary Jennings)

Btw, don't have muse for now and while I have a bunch of OCs, I never posted or created anything about them. So... this might be a good start to introduce a couple of them, I guess? ^^"

Lucía Vélez d'Avilés

SEASONING: Aniseed and cinnamon.

WEATHER: Constant light drizzle of rains.

COLOR: Blue, silver, and occasional green--although she tries not to wear anything blue in public to avoid suspicion.

SKY: Summer sky with thin silky clouds or clear new moon night full of stars.

MAGICAL POWER: Freezing moving objects (including people) in starry mist.

HOUSE PLANT: Fern.

WEAPON: Halberd, rapier, and any farming tool at hand (or mere wooden stick can be of good use for her).

SUBJECT: Arts and crafts.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Probably Pinterest.

MAKE-UP PRODUCT: Probably eyeliner--although she prefers to go natural.

CANDY: She is an extreme sweet tooth that she would even eat pure sugar to satisfy it, so it's hard to find one that can be associated with her.

FEAR: She fears rats and mice, but mainly due to her mamá's being bitten once by them. She also developed anxiety around and at full moon night because that is when the monsters in her village are at the peak of their powers.

ICE CUBE SHAPE: Cracked ice.

METHOD OF LONG-DISTANCE TRAVEL: Horseback riding or horse-drawn cart.

ART STYLE: Surrealism and abstract expressionism.

MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURE: Xana.

PIECE OF STATIONERY: Chalks, brushes, and whatever she finds outside and inside the house for painting.

CELESTIAL BODY: All the stars (including the Sun).

Kazuki Ōkami (大上神月)

SEASONING: Bird's eye chili (or any chili, in general).

WEATHER: Warm, sunny, and with clear air.

COLOR: Black and blood red.

SKY: Burning orange-grey starless sky with dusty full moon.

MAGICAL POWER: Turning into and controlling giant creature.

HOUSE PLANT: Red or yellow hibiscus.

WEAPON: His fists and wheelchair.

SUBJECT: Mainly PE and some Foreign Language.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram.

MAKE-UP PRODUCT: Concealer.

CANDY: Spicy candy.

FEAR: He has sort of love-hate relationship with extreme heights--he likes the thrill of achievement when reaching the top of something, but bad things often befell him when he did (one of them cost his legs). Also, he always at least shivered when being inside a new building or tunnel, afraid that it would suddenly fall apart on him.

ICE CUBE SHAPE: He's very sensitive to cold and would rather avoid cold drinks.

METHOD OF LONG-DISTANCE TRAVEL: Train--or any land transportation if train is not available.

ART STYLE: More often western comic art style than typical shounen manga.

MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURE: Rakshasa.

PIECE OF STATIONERY: Markers and highlighter pens.
