What parts of canon do you find the most frustrating/that you are dissatisfied with/wished that was handled better/explored more? Mine is the inconsistency of Voldemort as a character. How he is described as being perhaps the most talented student that Hogwarts has ever seen and so powerful and intelligent but regularly made such dumb decisions e.g. in the final battle where he still uses Avada Kedavra despite seeing it not work before. I like the explanation that Horcruxes rotted his brain

the parts of canon which i find the least satisfying all have the same thing in common: their morality is individualist.
the harry potter series has - at its core - a really profound and very black-and-white belief that good and evil not only exist but are rooted in the individual. and while i understand why this is the case - the later books in the series are governed by the genre conventions of folkloric epic and, especially, of christian folkloric epic, which means that the whole seven-book narrative arc ending in a battle between christ and satan after which all is well is only to be expected - i don't like it.
so here we are... ten things i hate about canon, for fanfic writers to win my heart by interrogating in their work...
i hate the series' insistence that everything is fine once voldemort is dead
the middle books in the series - especially goblet of fire - do a really interesting job at hinting at the endemic rot in the ministry of magic, and the ways that the state and its enforcers perpetuated harm during the first war that was indistinct from that perpetuated by the death eaters - above all the use of internment without trial for suspected death eaters [which is a reference to something the british state actually did in the 1970s!].
they show how widespread blood-supremacy and magic-supremacy is, even among people who don't openly support voldemort; how the wizarding population is kept deliberately ignorant by what appears to be state-controlled media; and how no serious efforts have been made to eradicate the conditions which enabled voldemort to attain such power.
this is then forgotten completely in deathly hallows, where the fact that almost the entire civil service keeps working for a government which is committing genocide is hand-waved away with "oh, people are scared", and both the epilogue and jkr's post-series writing take the view that kingsley manages, as minister, to preside over a government which easily sheds all its old prejudices and starts working properly.
i don't like this! i think it's just much more interesting for corruption to be impossible to fully eradicate from the government, for blood-supremacy to have long-standing causes which actually take a lot of very hard work to untangled [especially the fact that the wizarding world not appearing to have a welfare state means that those whose lives are poor or unstable are prime targets for radicalisation], and for kingsley to have the same capacity for leaning on the prophet and worrying about his polling numbers as any other politician...
i hate that the series changes how the death eaters are written between half-blood prince and deathly hallows
connected to this shift from the series hinting at the broader issues in the wizarding world to a flat battle between good and evil is that the death eaters, their aims, and their modus operandi are written very different between half-blood prince and deathly hallows. in the former, the death eaters can be situated very easily as anti-state sectarian terrorists who have all sorts of complex analogies within british history and politics. in the latter, they're just caricatures of pure evil - which is why the death eaters introduced from the latter stages of half-blood prince onwards, especially the carrows, are considerably less interesting as characters than those, such as lucius malfoy, barty crouch jr. and bellatrix lestrange, who are introduced earlier.
it's also why the voldemort of deathly hallows feels so uninteresting. i don't like the fanon that the horcruxes render him insane at all - when he's shown outside of the epic battle between good and evil in that book, he's shown to be as lucid and cunning as always - but he ends up having to flop because his only purpose in the overarching narrative is to be killed. in the earlier books, in which he's a paramilitary kingpin poisoning and corrupting a society which was designed to exclude him because of the fact of his birth in revenge for its treatment of him, rather than satan and hitler's lovechild, he is so much more interesting.
i hate the series' belief that slavery is fine
obviously, one of the biggest examples of state malevolence in the series is that wizards own slaves. like many readers, i loathe that the house elf plotline ends up being reduced from its potential for radicalism in chamber of secrets - in which dobby mentions whisper-networks of elves who decry their treatment at wizards' hands - to what we see from goblet of fire onwards - in which elves love being enslaved and think that any attempts to free them from their subjugation is cruel.
i also hate that elves' freedom is then hand-waved away as part of the general race towards "all was well" with the implication that hermione found it easy to undo what appears to be centuries of state-sanctioned oppression without any pushback at all.
the house elf plotline is one of the clearest distillations of the series' individualistic morality. harry abhors the treatment of dobby at the malfoys' hands entirely and only because he doesn't like the malfoys. he abhors voldemort's treatment of kreacher, but sees absolutely no issue with sirius' because he likes sirius - and he clearly sees no issue at all with his own legal mastery of kreacher, seeing as, literally minutes after the end of a war in which the good guys fought for the rights of muggles and muggleborns to be seen as fully human... he is considering ordering his slave to make him a sandwich.
i hate that the series doesn't show the realities of resistance
the reason i think the whole "why does voldemort keep using avada kedavra, isn't he supposed to be clever?" question arises is because the series is incredibly resistant to the idea that the good guys must have to kill as well, which makes it look like it's only the death eaters using it while the order use lots of clever magic that the stupid terrorists are too thick to think of.
this is idiotic - not only because the killing curse is canonically flawless unless the thing you're blasting is your own horcrux and so the order would use it for efficiency's sake alone, but because the reality of being a resistance fighter is that, even if you're on the "right" side, you are going to have kill people or they will kill you.
lupin is completely right in deathly hallows that harry is breathtakingly naive to avoid shooting to kill and that - without the protection of genre conventions allowing him to be preternaturally merciful - his resistance to killing is going to result in him being destroyed by the enemy. it is inconceivable that the rest of the order don't using the killing curse - and the question of what this does to their souls [is it murder if you believe yourself to be justified in your actions?] and their senses of self post-war is so interesting to think about - and i wish we were shown this in the text.
especially because molly absolutely blasted bellatrix with it.
but i also hate that the series thinks that violence is fine when the good guys do it
this is primarily another example of the black-and-white "this is fine because harry's good" theme which runs through the series, which we see in things like harry using sectumsempra on draco malfoy in half-blood prince or the cruciatus curse on amycus carrow in deathly hallows. harry's overarching response to committing attempted murder is to sulk that the incredibly minor punishment he receives is reducing the time he could spend hitting on ginny, and his response to torturing amycus is "lol. lmao."
the series thinks - again and again - that cruelty and violence are completely fine when the person they are perpetuated against "deserves" it, and it does not bang.
and that the series allows the good guys more complexity in characterisation
the role played by the house system in the story - and, above all, the fact that our heroes are all connected to one particular house with straightforwardly admirable associated characteristics - means that the villains receive less opportunity to also have positive traits intermingled with their negative ones - and, therefore, complex and interesting personalities.
i also dislike that when non-gryffindor characters - especially slytherins - do reveal themselves to be brave and loyal etc., instead of recognising that this is because bravery can be multi-faceted the series suggests that they should be recategorised as "belonging" to a "good" house.
or, in other words, me and dumbledore's "i think we sort too soon" line in deathly hallows are enemies for life.
i hate that the series blames merope gaunt for dying
and - of course - the main way a villain isn't allowed as much complexity as a hero is that the series never examines the impact of voldemort's childhood on his adult self. while we see hints throughout canon of just how profoundly affected he is by his institutionalised childhood and the weight of his grief over his parents [his mother especially] - such as him learning as a baby never to cry for attention because it's futile - this is hand-waved away throughout the series by dumbledore-as-the-voice-of-god as irrelevant. the eleven-year-old tom riddle is straightforwardly evil, that he grows up in an orphanage is used as nothing more than narrative colour to underline how creepy he is, and dumbledore's spectacular mishandling of their relationship is viewed by the series as undeniably correct right up to the very last moment [when harry imitates dumbledore by - and we should call it what it is - deadnaming voldemort in their final confrontation].
but the most egregious thing that dumbledore does when discussing the course voldemort's life takes is blame merope gaunt for her own death in childbirth, by implying that witches are immune to one of the most common causes of death throughout human history if they just try hard enough and then saying that a nineteen-year-old girl whose life appears to have been nothing more than unrelenting abuse and misery [perpetuated both against her and by her] lacked the moral fibre to try hard enough.
and this infuriates me.
i hate how the series treats female characters who don't fit its narrow spectrum of "correct" womanhood
merope is but one victim of the series' general issues with treating women who aren't its heroes - all of whom are exactly feminine and beautiful and clever and talented enough that we know they're good people, but not any of these things in an extreme which could make them vapid or arrogant or defiant of social norms or so on.
the series takes a very low view of women who exist outside of narrow boxes - whether they are interested in a hyper-feminine aesthetic [lavender brown, rita skeeter] or a more masculine one [marge dursley]; conform to stereotypes about being bitchy, flighty, or vapid [pansy parkinson, romilda vane] or refuse to adhere to social expectations to be polite, meek, and demure [fleur delacour]; are unmarried, are not inherently maternal, and/or are cruel to children [bellatrix lestrange; petunia dursley; dolores umbridge]; are unrestrained emotionally [cho chang; moaning myrtle] and so on. and i don't like it.
and i also hate that - connected to this - the series uses physical appearance - especially weight - as a shorthand for [female] characters we're supposed to dislike.
what it says on the tin, really - if the series doesn't like a character, especially if the character is a woman, you can almost guarantee that they will either be fat or be unusually thin.
and finally...
i hate that the series prioritises one form of love - love as suffering and as sacrifice - over all others
part of the series' march towards the epic two-person showdown between good and evil is that harry is made to endure trial after trial - including his death for the salvation of mankind - in the name of love. obviously this is because he becomes, by the end of deathly hallows an allegory for christ, but it also fits into the series' view - articulated most frequently by dumbledore - that love, suffering, and sacrifice are all synonyms.
the acts of love the series foregrounds - snape's willingness to endure anything because of his love for lily; sirius' willingness to rot in azkaban and caves and grimmauld place because of his love for james and harry; harry giving up a love that's like "someone else's life" with ginny so he can go die - are all sacrificial, and the series generally takes a dull view of love that is fluffy, silly, carnal, selfish, soothing, transformational and so on. lavender and bellatrix's open adoration of their lovers is mocked; dumbledore's sexual desire for grindelwald is punished by his sister's death; tonks and lupin's uncomplicated happiness in the birth of their son is not to last.
but happy endings and silly jokes and forehead kisses are love too. and the hill i will die on is that they have even more potential to bring about the salvation of the world than constant suffering and abiding.

She's got some of the FUNNIEST writing in this fandom, and it's very snappy too like. She's an editing demon for sure, she can take a concept that I'd think would take paragraphs to explain and find the right words to make it hit just as hard with like, two sentences. I also really really love how descriptive her metaphors are, really visceral sometimes, and she's really good at writing realistic life events but still making them fun to read about even when it's about like, devastating shit. The sex she writes is also intense as hell! -- @griefabyss69

Why do you write Steddie?
I am but a humble bisexual — I see two beautiful brown-eyed men makin’ beautiful brown eyes at each other, I go a little insane for two years. It is what it is.
What’s your favorite trope to READ?
late-night moments of quiet hopeful hesitant intimacy over a shared joint or cigarette. Thin wisp of smoke between them, stars dancing in their eyes. Yeah. YEAHHHHHHH 
What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?
This isn’t really a trope so much as a dynamic, but I love a good dipshit 4 dingus dialogue-heavy scene. Don’t get me wrong, I think Eddie and Steve can both be very smart and knowledgeable in their areas of interest/expertise, but these are two young dudes with no access to the internet. I love letting them be confidently incorrect dumbasses. Just ‘yes and’-ing each other’s stupidity while an exasperated third character begs for mercy.
What’s your favorite Steddie fic?
Well, this question is impossible and furthermore rude. This question came into my home and didn’t take its muddy boots off. This question never mailed me a thank you letter for my lovely wedding gift. That blender was expensive; the absolute nerve. No but seriously, I think The Lathe by palmviolet is going to stay with me forever.
Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?
I’m a big fan of doing canon divergence from different jumping off points — the beauty of having characters live in the same small town their whole lives is that you get so many great opportunities for these “what if our paths crossed sooner” moments.  I have some very loose notes for a S3 fic where Eddie is the movie theater employee who finds Steve and Robin in the bathroom after they escape the Russians, and I also have an old WIP set between S1 and S2 where lifeguard Steve rescues Eddie and then spends the summer teaching him how to swim. Would love to revisit those after I finish the trailer park AU (which I will be referring to as TPAU because my fingers are tired and because ‘toilet paper au’ makes me laugh.)
What is your writing process like?
Uhhhhh. 😂 I mean, for TPAU, basically just insert the scene from Dune 2 of Paul’s first sandworm ride: I’m shaking I’m sweating there is sand in my nostrils and I am surely about to die— oh wait, maybe I’ve actually got this? Am I actually doing it? Oh shit, look at me go!   For one-shots I like to use a more structured outline and bracket method. I start by dividing my doc into numbered scenes, with each scene getting a notes section and a prose section, like this:

This format gives me a lot of freedom to switch up the order of scenes and to move between scenes so I avoid writer’s block. I can also jump ahead to scenes I really want to write without making a mess of my outline. Once I have something written in the prose section of each scene, I go back and work on replacing each bracket with prose until there are no brackets left. Lastly, I create a new blank doc and copy the prose over in order so I can read the full fic and work on edits from there.  
Do you have any writing quirks?
I have been known to abuse a semicolon. And an em dash. And a conjunction at the start of a sentence. Yes, I do have ADHD.   I’m also a lyricist, so I feel like my prose tends to stray into poetry territory pretty often.
Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?
When I’m finished! Which is probably why I tend to stick to one-shots; I get impatient and want to post stuff the second it’s ready.
Which fic are you most proud of?
‘i don’t know, you figure it out’ for SURE. I’ve never written a fic this long or stuck to a writing project this consistently in my life. Like ever. The last time I even came close was my first NaNoWriMo when I was 16, which was, uh… years ago, plural, and I’ll leave it at that. 😂
How did you get the idea for i don’t know, you figure it out?
“There’s a dead rat on his doorstep.” That’s it. That first sentence/scene popped into my head while I was bored at work, and then I started thinking, “hey, you know what? I don’t know that anyone’s ever done a fic where Max and Steve trade places for S4; that might be fun.”  And then NaNoWriMo was coming up, so I thought it would be cool to try live posting a fully improvised fic every day for a month to see how many words I could write. And then this tragic wet cat version of Steve Harrington grabbed me by the throat and took over my whole life.
When writing Satanic Ritual: DO NOT WATCH!!, what was something you didn’t expect?
How SAPPY these two got!! My god, boys, I’m trying to write smut over here, stop having a beautiful existential crisis! (I blame Briston Maroney for that though lol, I think I listened to ‘Body’ like 1400 times that month.)
What inspired Satanic Ritual: DO NOT WATCH!!?
@inklessletter posted this totally gorgeous art of Steve and Eddie recording themselves kissing, and I promptly lost my mind.  
What was your favorite part to write from biting you biting you biting you- oh! kissing you!?
This exchange: Steve: “What? I’m just asking!” Robin: “You’re being embarrassing!” Steve: “No, you’re just embarrassed. There’s a difference.” Like it’s just so them lmao
How do/did you feel writing i don’t know, you figure it out?
You know when you set out on a long hike in the summer and three hours later your calves are screaming and you’re covered in sweat and your sunburn’s starting to itch and this one horse fly won’t fuck off and your cell phone doesn’t even get service out here so literally WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF, and then you climb that last hill and look out on the most beautiful landscape you’ve ever seen in your silly little life? Basically that.
What was the most difficult part of writing Plot Holes?
Ooh, that one was fun! The only real difficulty was trying to keep it to a microfic because the concept could definitely be fleshed out to a full story — @griefabyss69 and I were joking around about “what if someone did ‘plot hole’ for the @steddiemicrofic prompt fill?” and then that fic just fell out of my head in about 15 minutes. 
Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?
For sure! I’m currently super proud of the graveyard scene in the most recent update of TPAU — I don’t write true horror often, but I love horror so it was really fun to give it a try! Favorite line from any fic is probably this reference to ‘You’re Divine’ in my fic Monsoon Season because I love uncomfortably-aroused prude Eddie, and his internal monologue cracks me up every time I think about it: Freddie Monsoon’s debut novel is called The Fourth Chime, and it is, as far as Eddie can tell, the first installment in a series of unapologetically filthy fuck fests about a man whose lover gets flung into an alternate dimension during an apocalyptic event and miraculously returns as some sort of… sexy bat-boy with a fucking horse dong and a bite kink. Critics are calling it “the most romantic novel of the last decade.” It’s me; I’m Critics.
Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?
My main project right now is finishing TPAU if it kills me, but beyond that, I have a few one-shots for @subeddieweek in the works, including a collab with @griefabyss69 that I’m so so SO excited to share. It’s hot, it’s funny, I can’t wait for y’all to read it.

First of all, as @wormdebut would say: I think you’re pretty. Thank you so much for all your hard work! I love this blog, and I love answering questions <3 Secondly: - Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. - Toss cubed sweet potatoes and parsnips, sliced sweet onion, and fresh garlic in a mix of olive oil, salt, pepper, and rosemary, and then spread in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.  - Bake for ~40-45 minutes. (Potatoes and parsnips should be soft without being mushy when you poke them with a fork.) - Prep your sauce: I made a dijon drizzle situation by mixing olive oil mayo, a dash of dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a splash of water, but you could also add a little dab of hot sauce, bbq sauce, or different mustards. Basically just grab like four condiments out of your fridge and play around with the flavors you like until you make a mix that’s thin enough to pour. - Drizzle roasted veggies with sauce. - Enjoy a very tasty side dish (or do what I did and eat the whole sheet as a meal like some sort of parsnip goblin because you were too lazy to make the main dish after chopping all those veggies) okay thank you love you byeeeee

So I was thinking about Hell's understaffing problem today while rewatching S2 for the nth time...
I remember wondering "Why the hell is Hell so understaffed?" during my first few watches. I think I even made a post about it somewhere, and I think someone had suggested it was because they were all on Earth tempting humans. That didn't sit right with me, because demons view Crowley's position with envy--posts on Earth are clearly extremely limited--if not completely exclusive.
And then I remembered seeing a post about how empty Heaven is, especially when compared to Hell. Hell is FULL. There's no shortage of people/demons milling about in those awful conditions, while Heaven is clean and crisp and white and sterile and EMPTY. Muriel even remarks on how rarely they see another person.
And then it hit me--as I'm sure it has hit several others by now--of course Hell is understaffed. And it's not because the demons are on Earth. It's because all (or very nearly all) of the human souls are in Hell being tormented.
Furfur tells Shax that they could "have an order from Satan himself" but that he doesn't have the demons they're asking for. It's not because the demons are gone or don't exist, it's because they're all assigned to tormentor duties.
And it reminded me of that scene in S1 where Crowley asks Aziraphale how many first class composers are in Heaven and then lists off some that are in Hell. Aziraphale doesn't give any names--he only remarks that the ones in Hell have already written their music.
Maybe he doesn't list any because there aren't any there. They're all in Hell.
With all that said, there's still 2 things that make me curious about the whole setup. At the end of S1, when our poor International Delivery Guy comes to pick up the artifacts he asks if they believe in life after death. Aziraphale remarks--in a somewhat reluctant tone--"I suppose I must do." That's always struck me as strange when he's a literal angel and is very much aware of the whole Heaven/Hell and how they relate to the human soul thing. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it feels off.
And then there's the fact that human souls, canonically, go "somewhere very cold" when they die. And Death's appearance/wings give off a vibe that suggests there may be a void-like place that souls go to. God says something about Death's wings looking like a rip in space and filled with glimmers of something that could be stars or "something else entirely" (like souls, perhaps?).
Perhaps Aziraphale's noncommittal answer is because he knows how empty Heaven is, or because he knows souls go somewhere and exist in a way that doesn't, in his mind, constitute "life." Or maybe Aziraphale knows that humans experience some form of an afterlife, but that there's no such thing for celestials/infernals, and perhaps he's a little bitter about it. Or maybe he DOESN'T know whether an afterlife exists for celestials/infernals, because God does enjoy playing ineffable games of Her own devising, and clearly has no issue leaving Her own creations "in the dark" so to speak. And I'm not talking about discorporation here--I'm talking proper angelic/demonic destruction a la hellfire/holy water.
And as for the cold... Well... Perhaps it's a void. Perhaps it's space. Or, perhaps... Hell has frozen over.

a/n: thanatos is literally the personification of death i'm so hyped for this! also these headcanons are a little bit short because for some reason i was totally blanking on thanatos kids, but i think that i got some pretty good headcanons in there (:
thanatos kids are the definition of badass
they're naturally very intimidating
i mean, their father is literally the personification of death, so there's like... something unsettling about them
spirits kinda follow them around
it's very common for thanatos kids to have been bullied when they were younger, but also the bullying doesn't last long, because they can get a spirit to knock something over near them or something
thanatos kids are very untrusting, because the world has been pretty cruel to them
on the wikipedia page, it says that thanatos is the personification of peaceful death, but i'm not sure how true that is since it's wikipedia, but basically what i was thinking is that like thanatos kids can always tell when someone is going to die of natural causes, just like in their mind, if that makes sense
like a canon event for a thanatos kid is having a grandparent or older family member start acting differently, and the kid immediately knowing that they're gonna die
their mortal parent definitely could never look at them the same after the sick individual died
i kind of headcanon that there are lots of thanatos kids that have weird relationships with their mortal parent because of this reason
like there's lots of trouble with people seeing thanatos kids as "spawns of satan" if that makes sense, and so they're kinda shunned
and yes, thanatos kids are definitely badass, but they also have a sort of general unsettling sort of vibe
exactly like how hades kids can be kind of unsettling at times
same thing with thanatos kids, although it's a lot more subtle because thanatos is a minor god
but there's just something about thanatos kids that put mortals on edge
(it's the gentle reminder that death is always possible at any given moment, and being near a thanatos child, the child of literally the personification of death, makes this reminder a lot more fresh in people's minds whenever they're around)
other demigods generally aren't as affected by this, because just existing as a demigod means you can die anywhere and anyway, so being around that reminder is just sort of more of a friendly reminder like, "hey! i'm a child of thanatos, remember to look out for monsters! (:"
for some reason i feel like thanatos kids would get along really well with hecate kids
they both give off kind of spooky vibes, i feel like they would totally be friends
they would go allllllll out during spooky season, i guarantee it
like halfway through september they start announcing to camp that it's officially spooky season
thanatos kids are very intense
but a quiet kind of intense, where they have like unintentionally intense stares
thanatos kids also have very big feelings
when they get sad, they get sad
when they get happy, they get so elated it looks almost as if they're about to take flight
that's just kind of the pattern with thanatos kids
they definitely had explosive tantrums as a kid
thanatos kids also tend to be sort of closed off, and kinda hangout with each other more than anything
also for some reason i kinda headcanon thanatos as a bit of a slut so i feel like there are a lot of thanatos kids for like no reason
okay honestly that's all i have for thanatos kids
i'm so sorry this was so short, but i for some reason had no ideas for thanatos kids (althought in my defense the only thing about thanatos is that he's the personification of death so yknow) but i also have a bunch of requests to write! thank you so much for reading, and have an amazing day!

If Steve had nearly lost his voice from that nervewrecking day when Eddie had floated in the trailer park, then Steve was shredding the column of his throat into nonexistence as the exact thing was happening in the Creel House attic.
Eddie’s right arm was broken thrice. His left leg followed soon after. Then his left eye burst with a horrid pop, splurts of blood already staining the side of his face.
All Steve had to do was keep watch of Eddie while the others went to the Upside Down to distract the bats and kill Vecna. All he had to do was to wait for the right moment to return the headphones over Eddie’s ears.
But then the Cunninghams had come over with Jason Carver and a few of their friends.
It wasn’t easy to fight them off, especially when Carver held him at gunpoint while the adults instantly believed Eddie was currently listening to Satan’s messages to destroy their perfect town. But Max had come in swinging. Literally. She had held onto Steve’s trusty nailbat and showed them another reason why she liked the moniker Mad Max.
Steve had his back turned on Eddie for too long.
After the last adult finally scuttled and Carver went unconscious on the ground, Steve couldn’t use the music in time.
Eddie suddenly dropped. Steve just barely caught him in time before his body hit the ground.
“I got you, Eds. I got you right here. You’re gonna be okay. We’re taking you to the hospital-” Steve was rambling, trying to keep his composure as he held onto Eddie. Because he can’t take Eddie to the hospital without making his boyfriend cry out in pain whenever he moved an inch.
“I wa- I want-” Eddie was gasping for air, choking on nothing and everything. His chest was frantically raising up and down, each round making his breath more winded. Steve swore he had heard a few of his ribs breaking right before Eddie had fallen.
“What is it?” Steve asked as calmly as he could despite the wet tremor in his voice. He wanted to look away from Eddie’s face, half of it streaming out thick blood and viscera from the socket. His surviving eye was still glazed over with a few specks of brown with a red tear stain dropping down his cheek.
“W-Wayne,” Eddie gasped out painfully, “I want Wayne!”
“He’s on his way right now.” Steve lied. He had no idea if Wayne and Nancy and Robin were okay and actually coming back. He twisted his head over to Max, whose terrified gaze hadn’t left Eddie since he started floating. “Max! Call an ambulance!” He couldn’t believe how much of his voice still held.
Then Max was staring at Steve, her blue eyes welling up as she started shaking. Steve looked back to see Eddie had gone limp. His heartbeat, frantic and jackhammering against Steve’s palm just seconds ago, was no longer there.
“No. No, no, no-” Steve’s voice stopped working then, even when a sob worked its way out of his ruined throat. He pulled Eddie closer, his hand cupping the back of his head when glowing red cracks started splintering the wood right underneath them.
There was still blood under his fingernails.
Steve stared at them dully. It was a better distraction than the mechanical beeping and the faint throbbing on his sides. The demobat bites were long stitched-up during those early chaotic hours of waiting. His throat had already been looked at, but nothing but a pack of ice, water, and an easy rest was prescribed.
Steve had almost laughed. He hadn’t gotten an easy rest since he saw a monster burst out of Jonathan Byers’ ceiling.
He couldn’t lift his eyes up. Not because he was tired, no matter how his brain felt it had turned into jelly and dripping out of his ears, but if he brought his gaze up, then he would still see Eddie.
Eddie, who laid in bed with half of his body in thick casts and bandages around the left side of his face and an oxygen tube down his throat, comatose even after two and half days. Eddie, whom Steve had promised over and over to protect him even before Vecna laid his nasty claws on him.
But Steve failed to do exactly that and had let Eddie die.
Because of him, Vecna’s plan succeeded and tore Hawkins in half.
Even though it was a fucking miracle that Eddie’s heart started pulsing again, Steve couldn’t forget it. He could scrub the blood and grime off himself and the high-pressure of his shower wouldn’t do shit to erase the sudden lightweightness of Eddie’s body in his arms. Steve’s stomach swooped with nausea at the recollection. He had always complained of Eddie being so heavy despite his flat ass whenever Eddie had taken the opportunities to randomly launch himself at Steve, who had always caught him even if he was already holding something.
He never wanted to know how light Eddie had felt after dying, but now he does and it was going to forever haunt him.
The doors opened. Without looking, Steve greeted tiredly, “Hey, Wayne.”
Big mistake. He heard the man pause before his boots strode over to him. Neither of them hadn’t talked in between the chaos of the ‘earthquake’, the brief volunteering at the high school, and Robin’s attempts to distract him out of the hospital. Now, they were in the same room and Steve braced himself for a punch. Actually, Wayne wasn’t that physical. So Steve braced himself for a cold warning to leave and never show his face again.
Instead, Wayne gently clamps a hand on Steve’s shoulder.
It makes him look up then. Wayne’s wrinkles had deepened and his eyes were slightly red. He looked more exhausted than Steve had ever seen.
“You need to rest up,” Wayne said gently. Why was he still nice? He shouldn’t be. Not after Eddie-
Before Steve could protest, Wayne led him to a small couch at the corner. It was horribly uncomfortable and itchy but once he laid down, Steve immediately fell asleep.
Steve hated dreams.
Most times, he lost the fight. He was manhandled, forced to watch as Carver shot a bullet into Eddie, splattering brains across the ground and walls. Sometimes it was Max who was shot. Whenever the floor broke apart, Steve let himself fall and burn in the gate instead of dragging Eddie away. Eddie’s bones broke, all four limbs like the others. Sometimes his eyes melted first. Sometimes his ribs burst out of his chest. Sometimes his neck snapped as well. Sometimes his skin peeled itself from his hands and turned into claws. Sometimes he came back fine and unharmed but then he dropped with wide unmoving eyes. Sometimes it was one of their dates that never went that way it had actually happened because Eddie would float up and then they were in the attic again.
Every time, Eddie’s mouth twisted into a snarl, “You’re a shitty liar, Steve Harrington.”
Steve started to lose count how many times he’d woken up with a scream caught in his throat.
Three weeks later after Vecna shattered half of his body, Eddie woke up.
Steve wasn’t there when it happened. Robin and Dustin had pushed him to shower and change so he went to his house, sat under the shower as it turned cold for probably an hour, and came back to the hospital just in time for Dustin to suddenly shove his face against Steve’s chest and blubbered out-
“He’s awake.”
In another universe, Steve would have sprinted immediately towards Eddie’s room with nothing but immense joy.
Instead, he felt utter cold numbness as Dustin took his hand and dragged him there.
There were doctors fretting around Eddie. Wayne was holding Eddie’s uninjured hand like a lifeline with teary eyes. The other kids were clamoring at the foot of the bed.
During the commotion, Eddie’s eye had flickered over and met Steve’s. There was a crinkle of hope and relief behind them.
Steve was back in the attic, split between the before and after of Eddie’s eye losing life behind them, mere seconds before the ground split.
For the first time, Steve ran away.
To his credit, it had taken a week before anyone found him. And by anyone, it was Robin of course.
“What are you doing here?” Robin wrinkled her nose as she looked down at him, hands in overall pockets. She was upside down from where Steve was laying down.
“Enjoying the view.” Steve gestured up with the can he was drinking from.
Robin looked at the sky and glared back down at him, “It’s cloudy and about to rain, smartass.”
Steve giggled, chasing the tipsiness while it lasted. He never stayed high or drunk long enough after the Russians injected their truth serum in his veins. “You called me a smartass.”
“Jesus, Steve,” Robin groaned as she squatted down and pulled him up to a sitting position. Steve tried to swat her away but she refused to let go.
“Where the hell are you?” Robin asked. Steve raised an eyebrow at her and gestured to the wide wheat field they were in. Couldn’t be Indiana without them.
“No, where-” Robin snatched the beer can out of his hand despite Steve’s protests, “-the hell are you?”
Steve glared back at her. “Don’t speak riddles- ow!”
Robin hit him square on the cheek with the can, which was better than another hit on the head. Then her fists curled into the stained collar of his shirt and Steve was treated to the up-close view of her snarling teeth.
“Why the fuck aren’t you at Eddie’s side? Why aren’t you with everyone else giving him support to start physical therapy? Where were you?”
Steve swallowed. The tippiness was already gone. He had been holding it for about.. two hours? That had to be a new record.
Robin shook him violently, “Where-?”
“Nowhere!” Steve yelled. His voice carried across the fields for a few seconds before the echo died. He continued before Robin opened her mouth again, “I just want to be nowhere in Hawkins because I let that town fall apart! So what if El is fixing the fissures, none of it changes that everyone knows it’s my fault they were even there!”
Robin had loosened her grip but Steve kept going, the pieces of himself that died with Eddie he had tried to bury under the broken floorboards at that attic resurfacing. It all came out watery and salty in his mouth.
“I told everyone - you, Wayne, Dustin, Nancy - that Eddie will be fine! Nothing would happen because I would stay with him. But something happened and he died! He died in my arms, Robs, and now he’s awake and I can’t just let myself pretend that I looked away for one second and let Vecna kill him while I could have done something.” Steve sucked in a shaky breath. He looked into Robin’s eyes and tried to smile like used to.
“Steve…” Robin was no longer angry. She looked like she was about to cry.
“His heart stopped.” Steve whispered. It was a well-known fact among the party. Dumb Steve was distracted and Eddie got his bones broken and was medically dead for a minute. “I felt his heart… it just stopped.”
He had spent the rest of that week listening and feeling Eddie’s heartbeat. It had become his own song, the lifeline between them. It had both assured Steve and nearly drove him mad. It was a sacred prayer made between their devoted lips on that blissful night when Eddie had survived.
“You will live. You will live.”
Steve should have known better than to pray. No one listened to his prayers since he was seventeen.
His teeth started chattering, a habit from clenching his jaw so hard whenever he was about to cry.
“His heart stopped and I had to hold him while the gates opened.” The tears finally slipped. “Now ask me again where I was.”
Robin doesn’t. She hugged him tight, making no comment even as the rain broke out or when Steve wiped his snot over the shoulder of her shirt.
Steve lingered at the door for another minute before he took in a deep breath and finally stepped inside.
To his surprise, Eddie was alone. Steve briefly wondered if this was Robin’s work but he shook that away. He approached the bed quietly, not willing to announce himself yet.
“I know it’s you.”
Steve froze. Eddie made a quiet chuckling sound before he turned his head towards Steve’s direction. His sole eye had cleared slightly, more brown than white. Most of the thick bandages were removed in lieu of a simple eyepatch. There was a thin tube running out under it.
“Like my new look?” Eddie tilted his head up slowly, probably not to jostle the tube. “It’s modeled after my ancestor Edward Blackbeard. Can’t grow the beard though, something about hygiene.”
It was almost a shock how Eddie retained his humor despite the worst week of their lives. Yet it was so Eddie that Steve couldn’t help but laugh.
“If you can’t grow a beard, then your hair genetics are terrible.” Steve joked back, letting himself sit on one of the chairs.
Eddie opened his mouth to mock-retort back, but winced soon after. He was quiet for a few moments before he spoke again, slowly this time, “Apparently I have so much leftover brain juice that the docs need to drain it out before I get approved for physical.”
“Ah,” was all Steve said.
“Yeah.”
They fell into silence again, less comfortable than Steve was used to. He glanced at the casts around Eddie’s arm and leg, all covered with doodles from the kids. It clenched at his heart.
“You know what was one of the things he showed me?”
Steve snapped his gaze back up. Eddie wasn’t looking at him.
It was the first time that either of them dared to breach the topic of Vecna’s visions.
“W-What?”
“He showed how you were an asshole at school, but mega-worse. Made you into someone who was with me just for the sex and weed.” Eddie shrugged like it was no big deal. “Then you ran away even when I called for you to come back.”
Nausea hit Steve like a freight train. He just stared at Eddie because that was what Steve had done.
He had run away because when he saw Eddie looking at him after being comatose, Steve had seen the exact opposite of that moment’s future. Steve had been convinced that Eddie would never forgive him for not saving him and Steve would rather flee like the goddamn Cowardly Lion than face another spit of anger.
“Eds-” Steve started but Eddie was looking back at him and he wasn’t done.
“You know I never believed that last part? Because I knew what kind of person you were and you would never leave.” Eddie’s eye flashed with anger. “So why, on the day I finally woke up, you looked at me in the eye and ran?”
Steve came apart. There had to be something wrong with him, that maybe Vecna secretly targeted him before his ass got fried up, because he was good at shoving the worst of his emotions down. But he had been making more waterworks in the past month than the Niagara Falls.
Steve clenched his nails into his thighs as he blubbered out, “I’m sorry, Eds, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
Eddie made some kind of dying animal noise at the back of his throat. Steve felt sick again. He was back at the stupid attic, Eddie on his lap as he breathed too fast and Steve wanted him to slow down before he choked on his own blood-
“-eve, Steve, come here, c’mon.”
He felt his upper body moving. Then he was pressed against another below him. A hand on the side of his head.
“Listen, listen, Stevie.”
Steve bit his lip and stayed quiet, waiting for what Eddie to say next.
But he only heard an ongoing rhythm of babump-babump-babump-babump against his ear.
“You hear that, sweetheart?”
Steve shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut to stop the tears racing down his face.
“Remember what you said that night? That no matter how we defeat Vecna, that I will live.”
“You died.” Steve blurted, “You died and I got Hawkins destroyed.”
Eddie was silent for an awfully long time. Steve felt him swallow a few times before he replied firmly, “Don’t say it like that.”
“Huh?” Steve finally lifted his head up. Eddie still looked angry but it seemed directed elsewhere entirely.
“I took that risk to be the bait. I knew that there was a fifty-fifty chance I would make it out unscathed. I knew what I had to do, but no matter what-” Eddie paused for a moment, clear drops of tears falling from his eye. “I will live.”
With a shaky breath, he smiled wearily at Steve, “And look at me, sweetheart. I kept that promise.”
Steve cried again. He desperately wanted to kiss Eddie but his boyfriend was clearly still in pain, so he carefully cupped his hands under Eddie’s jaw, mindful of the bandages and tube. “I’m so sorry I ran away. I was scared you would hate me, well you kinda did now-”
Eddie shushed him, “Please stop doing that. I never hated you, I was just mad and now I’m not anymore.”
“Still-” Steve was cut off by Eddie leaning forward, bopping his nose against Steve’s. Eddie made another wince and the two of them waited for whatever pain to subside before Eddie spoke again.
“If you promise to be there every day of my physical therapy and don’t be a dick about my missing eye and whatever of me needs extra care, then your sins will be forgiven.”
Steve gave out a watery laugh, “Easy promise.”

Sorry for the number of asks/questions. I am curious on what you like about Tomarry and Grindledore. Also what are your honest thoughts on Dumbledore/Tom Riddle, Drarry, Tomione and Wolfstar. What other HP ships appeal to you?
So, first of all, I'm very sorry for taking so long to answer! And second, never apologize for sending me questions, I love getting them even if I take a while to answer. If you'll forgive me, I will only talk about one of those ships in this ask, but you can ask me about the other ones in other asks, it's just that talking about all of them in just one ask would turn my answer into a (even more) giant rambling I fear. Also because I only have true strong opinions about some of these ships, so I chose a single one, the one I have most opinions about, the one I have loved for the longest time.
That ship is, naturally, Voldemort (Tom Riddle)/Harry Potter.
I want to preface this by saying that I see them and ship them in a sort of unusual way, or at least it seems so, because I haven't found my particular interpretation of them in the fandom so far (though I've read fanfics that shook some of its branches) in more than a decade of shipping this ship. But I guess all authors are like that -- we're all trying to fill a void shaped as our own want.
It's true, too, that there's many ways of interpreting canon and molding its clay. I'm not constant in my characterization of Voldemort (though some things repeat themselves) for example: in some fics I make him an experienced philanderer, in others he's as virginal as Harry, or even more so. He's angrier at times, but softer, milder in some others. More or less irrational depending on the context. More or less bloodthirsty. Harry's well of patience dries with diverging speeds. So does his sanity.
With that said, what do I like about them, the basis?
I like a combination of two main rivers of characterization regarding them. Those are: 1) Voldemort as the Monster Groom, the Fairy Tale Villain, the Nightmare, The embodiment of fear and Harry as his favorite Victim, his killing, his bride. 2) Voldemort as a Father, Harry as his child. Voldemort as a son, Harry as his Mother. Voldemort as God (or Satan), Harry as his creation. It's important to note that these are fluid and fund with each other -- God is also a Groom, God is also a Father. A bride is a victim, is a deer, is a son, is a killing, is a meal.
Alright, so on with it.
Trigger warnings: discussion of CSA, incest So, Voldemort as the Monster, Harry as his Victim:
I think it’s very interesting how for four books Voldemort haunted Harry from beyond the grave, so to speak. Until his resurgence in the graveyard Voldemort was, in his own words, “less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost . . . but still (…) alive.”
That, along with his self-appointed title, the awe and terror he inspires, his seemly unlimited power, gives him the aura of being more monster than human.
It’s also telling that their first meeting — when Harry was a baby — happened in Harry’s nursery, in the bedroom. It’s been written before by scholars who write about the slasher genre that the violation of the bedroom can be read as a violation of the victim’s own body. Even after coming back as flesh Voldemort keeps on haunting Harry in his dreams — again, violating him in his bed. Throughout the fifth book he entices Harry to leave the safety of Hogwarts to meet him again.

A nightmare on elm street — the dream master (1988)
There’s an element of fairy-tale thrill to Voldemort and his relationship with Harry; his self-given title and his true name are both keys to understand him, even to defeat him. It’s only by discovering the truth about “Tom Riddle” that Harry acquires the weapons needed to defeat “Lord Voldemort”. By turning him from monster to human — uncovering his past, something the protagonists of horror movies usually have to do to defeat the monsters trying to kill them.
Candyman, for example, is called forth by having his name said aloud three times in front of a mirror. A similar taboo is put upon Voldemort’s name in the seventh book.

In more romantic terms, Voldemort seems to me like Mr. Rochester when he calls Jane Eyre — his strange, almost unearthly thing — and she hears his call all the way across the moors. Voldemort and Harry’s connection is an supernatural one and thus surpasses the physical obstacles in their way.
Then there’s Harry, Harry as a bride, Harry as a victim, Harry as The Final Girl — the one who got away. The Boy Who Lived.

Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street
Harry’s existence and his title — The Boy Who Lived — are defined by Voldemort. He was a survivor before he could speak, he was marked. Like many Final Girls he’s a teenager, virginal, brave. He’s also not taken as seriously as he should be. He survives but there’s always a cost. In the fifth book (imo the best in the series) he’s explicitly traumatised. A final girl wanders into the Death Realm. She comes back but brings something with her. She’s changed. Voldemort changed Harry, Voldemort touched Harry, Voldemort violated Harry. He comes back from the graveyard (the Death Realm) but he’s not the same.
In the fifth book Harry displays a lot of signs of trauma and, many times, the trauma of someone who was raped. After Nagini’s attack he feels deeply unclean:

There’s a deep sense of inevitability when it comes to Harry and Voldemort. He’s transformed, marked, from an ordinary baby to a Christ figure, The Chosen One. He’s made. Voldemort’s touch transforms him.
He lives between two deaths, like Hannibal’s Abigail:

Twice-killed, Abigail lived a borrowed amount between one father and the next. Her scar was a sign that she was marked for death, like a bride wearing an engagement ring. Harry was the same — his time was borrowed, between one Avada Kedavra and the next.
Harry’s becoming from ordinary child to redeemer of Wizarding Kind was done through Voldemort’s tempering. It’s as if Voldemort is God to Lily’s Mary and James’ Joseph. It took Voldemort’s decision to make him into The Chosen One. Harry as we know him is Voldemort’s creation.

That makes Voldemort, in a way, Harry’s third parent. Harry collects father figures throughout the books, he finds them in Sirius, Lupin, Dumbledore (Snape too arguably). They all abandon him by dying. The one who endures, the one who’s always there, is Voldemort. Voldemort never disappoints. His parenting of course it’s a painful one but we can’t forget that pain is what Harry knows given what he faced with the Dursleys. A child weaned on poison considers harm a comfort.
Voldemort is obsessed with him and hurts him. But he’s there, always there. Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike, Dumbledore says. Voldemort is many thing but not indifferent to Harry.
And that’s the thing. That’s the pain of it, the way I like them — fiction is not reality after all — as a unhealthy, tragic pairing. Harry can’t live without Voldemort because he’s too deeply his. Alice Notley says it best:

Harry belongs to Voldemort. I ship Voldemort with other characters, like Dumbledore and Bellatrix, but they all have extensive pasts and lives (even Bellatrix, who's so devoted to Voldemort) beyond Voldemort. Harry was created for Voldemort, scarred by him, mauled by him. For part one, click here. I went on another audio drama binge and I found some that were pretty fun to listen to. I usually tend to go after the ones that are completed because the longer the wait, the more likely I will forget the details, but this time I just went for anything that caught my attention. This also isn’t in any particular order.
The Magnus Archives – is a horror fiction anthology podcast written by Jonathan Sims, directed by Alexander J. Newall, and distributed by Rusty Quill.
The new Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, Jonathan Sims, attempts to bring a seemingly neglected collection of people’s testimonials of their encounters with the supernatural up to date, converting them to audio and supplementing them with follow-up work from his small but dedicated team. [COMPLETED]
It has five seasons, each 40 episodes long, as well as additional content such as Q&As, non-canon fan-submitted statements and one-off episodes that tie in with Rusty Quill's other podcasts.
It does start out slow and maybe at some point you’ll be wondering where is this going and what does some of these episodes have to do with the overall story, but it does all eventually connect. Your patience will pay off because once the build-up is done it picks up and things get really interesting!
Unwell – is a horror podcast starring Clarisa Cherie Rios and produced by Hartlife NFP.
The story follows Lillian Harper who has returned home to Mt. Absalom, Ohio to care for her estranged mother Dorothy after an injury. Living in the town's boarding house which has been run by her family for generations, she discovers conspiracies, ghosts, and a new family in the house's strange assortment of residents. [ONGOING]
This audio drama has five seasons which runs for 12 episodes. It currently has 54 episodes in total and each one is about 20-30 minutes long. New episodes are released fortnightly (biweekly) on Wednesdays. They take a mid-season break between episodes 6 and 7.
Bridgewater – is a supernatural thriller audio drama produced by Grim & Mild and by iHeartRadio, created by Aaron Mahnke and written/directed by Lauren Shippen.
Folklore professor Jeremy Bradshaw is pulled into the mysterious 1980 disappearance of his police officer father, Thomas, by new evidence that threatens to upend decades of certainty. The Lovecraft Investigations -- is a mystery thriller/horror fiction podcast written and directed by Julian Simpson, based on several works of H.P. Lovecraft. It’s produced by Sweet Talk Productions for BBC Radio 4. It concluded with three seasons and each episode is about 25-30 minutes long. There might be a fourth season in the works, but even if there isn’t the series is considered to be finished.
The first season starts off with an investigation into the disappearance of a young man, Charles Dexter Ward from a locked room in an asylum. [COMPLETED]

It is set on board the U.S.S. Hephaestus space station orbiting the star Wolf 359 on a deep space survey mission. The dysfunctional crew deals with daily life-or-death emergencies, while searching for signs of alien life and discovering there might be more to their mission than they thought. [COMPLETED]

Having read your analysis on Bee, I found myself thinking up a scenerio wherein Mammon chews out the other Sins. Like, the others air out their grievances with Mam and how him personifying Greed rather than encouraging it is giving them a bad public image, what with them being what is basically celebrities in the context of the show. Mammon would sat through it, silently glaring at the others, and when they’re done, he just tears into them. Mammon then proceeds to pick apart the other Sins’ actions and behaviors, noting how they used to personify their respective vices before eventually becoming the watered down versions of themselves they are in the present, probably even questioning why they’d even bother doing so in the first place. The others would probably try to “high road” him, but Mam isn’t having any of it and admits that, yes he is an unapologetically shitty person, but at the very least he’s honest about it, unlike them and the countless skeletons they undoubtedly keep in their closets. (I always interpreted Mammon’s only reason for trying to (poorly) hide his greedy nature is so he doesn’t alienate his potential consumers) Eventually, Mammon decides he’s tired of the conversation, notes he’s got a hot date with a recent divorcee later, and teleports away, leaving the others to stand in awkward silence, none of them willing to admit that Mammon’s verbal eviseration was right on the mark.
Sorry for the wall of text, just sort of had a flash of inspiration from your analysis.
Mam chewing them out would be extremely cathartic to see. After giving it some thought, I think Ozzie and Bee might be the only Sins that go out of their way to "mitigate" their public images. It would work especially well if Mammon reminds them of how well they used to get along and how, unlike Ozzie, he hasn't gone out of his way to antagonize them despite their "growth".
To elaborate on the Bee and Ozzie thing, Lucifer is canonically a pretentious ass to everyone but his family, Bel is highly implied to be so apathetic and lazy that she uses Sloth's general population as her test subjects and is likely too apathetic to care about appearances. What we've seen of Wrath doesn't paint the best picture of Satan, and it's too early to say anything about Levi, or Envy in general.
Nice to see the Golden Goose agenda spreading. And don't sweat it, text walls written in streams of consciousness are always more than welcome here!

I'm not normally a victim of FOMO tactics, nor do I usually let being late to the party stop me from chatting about a piece of media but I'm genuinely sad I didn't get into Obey Me/Nightbringer earlier. It makes me want to write a million essays but the disposable and decentralized nature of gacha kind of makes it feel like you missed your chance to talk about it. I keep coming across years old, unrepliable comments that I want to jump on sooo bad but I can't because the moment is gone and most of these people have likely moved on to less overtly money-hungry games.
Which sucks! because one essay I want to write in particular is how this game is extremely skilled in arousing your desire to create, to actively engage with the characters and worldbuilding, to do fandom shit, and I find this enormously fascinating in itself. The story isn't good but to a certain extent, it's not supposed to be; it functions as an elaborate set of writing/art/rp prompts for its audience to expand on and tailor to their needs.
And I think Obey Me does this well! Amazingly well. I find discussion of narrative structure fascinating, the study of how we define writing as effective, good, or as failures, so I'm drawn to this story full of contradicting lore, one-note characters, and half-finished plots. The story isn't good but that hardly matters because it's not here to be a good story; it's here to throw you into imagination boot camp. It compels you to speculate what it could be, what this character could be, what a slightly different tone would look like, what other people think about it. It feels distinct from the average popular show fandoms where, to an extent, creators congregate simply because that's where the people are. Creating for your own sake is nice and all but validation is usually a stronger force. Usually.
I keep coming across old high effort researched posts about abrahamic religions and occultism from fans setting themselves up for inevitable disappointment. I keep coming across creators leaving notes on their work like "I haven't written a thing in ten years, but,". I keep losing it over heartfelt posts defending x and y canon story decisions with their whole chest, oblivious to the fact that they're misremembering their personal tweaks/headcanons as what happened in the game, like it's seriously so cute when they're so passionate and completely wrong.
I have no idea if fandom actually plays a role in the lucrativeness of a franchise (though as a personal anecdote, I 100% started Obey Me after a single piece of horny Mammon fanart crossed my dash), but it makes more sense to me now, less a projection of wishful/haterful thinking from those with strong opinions about Fandom. Maybe it really does matter.

well, Anon, I think so due to the fact in Violence Jack Ryo fell in love with Miki and he is always in love with Akira in the manga, manga spin offs and every anime adaption.

But its not outright stated at times, and Go Nagai never has him say he is bisexual or gay, just that he is in love with Akira. And some writers do have Ryo be gay or at least only romantically interested in Akira, for example in Shin Devilman written by Hiroshi Nagai who is Go Nagai's older brother and Go Nagai ofc Illustrated it

and in Devilman Saga Ryo seems to state that him being intersex informs his bisexuality? I'm not sure but this is what his speak sounds like to me, even if its really messy af

So yeah, unless Go Nagai says one way or the other I would say that all we we know for sure is that Ryo/Satan is Queer af and I don't think its wrong to headcanon him as gay, bisexual, pansexual or demisexual since Akira is the only one he loves and he was friends with him first. The point of him possibly being demisexual could explain why Ryo falls in love with Miki in Violence Jack since he actually got to know her this time round.
But again I don't know how Go Nagai envisioned Ryo's sexuality and he isn't really talking about it either so all we can do is decide for ourselves what to headcanon.

I wanna ask what are ur headcanons abt what languages you think all the characters speak? hehe thank u if u do it 💗
Hmm well I personally don't have a lot of headcanons about specific languages per character.
But generally, I like to think there's some kind of ancient Demonic language, that's kinda like Latin in the human world. It's a dead language, but they still use it for stuff like spell incantations and what have you.
I suspect there's also a Celestial Realm language (Angelic? Celestial?) that all the bros speak. I like the idea that they used to speak it fluently, but after falling they don't use it anymore because ~memories~ so most of them have forgotten a lot of it.
However, there's also the question of what language are they truly speaking in the Devildom? If we assume that it's English for the sake of simplicity, why would the Devildom all speak a human world language like that? I don't think they adopted it just for MC because it's pretty obvious that it's the official language of the whole place. (And this isn't even getting into the concept of whether or not the language is actually Japanese and how that could change the reasoning behind it.)
But without getting into all that, here are my general thoughts.
Lucifer strikes me as the kind of guy who might take the time to learn some human languages, but he's also pretty busy so I don't think he's super fluent in any of them. I think he might be conversational in most.
Mammon is fluent in Latin because witches are always summoning him to the human world by chanting in it. I just really like the idea that he was like what are they even saying and accidentally studying it to the point where he ended up learning it all.
Levi would have to be fluent in Japanese. There's no way someone so anime obsessed wouldn't have taken the time to learn the language. He's been into it long enough and had enough time that I think he's fluent. (Assuming they aren't all speaking Japanese already anyway.)
I've always headcanoned that Satan took the time to learn all the languages from all the worlds. He just strikes me as the kinda guy who would do this and I believe it's canon that Solomon also taught him some ancient languages. I just think Satan would prefer to read books in their original languages. So this man at the very least can read every language (or most of them). I suspect his speaking skills might be lacking in some of them, though. (This is like me and French. I can read it, but ask me to say something and I'm over here talking about a big cat eating cheese in the sky.)
I think Asmo probably learned all the Romance languages because they're called the Romance languages. Like that is the only reason. But I also like the idea that Asmo learned languages of various human lovers he's had over his lifetime. Like I'm imagining him just falling head over heels for someone who only speaks their native tongue, so he learns it just so he can communicate with them. (I really like the idea that he learned ASL this way.)
Beel knows enough of every language to order food in it.
Belphie knows enough of every language to ask for a bed.
Diavolo has a whole company in the human world, so he had to have at least learned whatever language the employees of his company speak. I definitely see him kinda like Lucifer in that he's conversational in most languages.
Barbatos, due to being a being beyond the constraints of space and time, can speak all languages fluently. He taught Diavolo everything he needed to know language-wise.
Simeon has to be fluent in one human world language at the very least because TSL was published in the human world and Levi tells us it was translated into a bunch of languages. So it had to have been written in a human world language in order to be translated into other human world languages. Oh but I like the idea that Simeon wrote TSL in Celestial/Angelic originally and then translated it into a human language himself.
Solomon obviously speaks many human languages. I suspect that due to his age, he speaks most languages pretty fluently. I like to think he traveled around the human world for most of his long life, which means he likely learned most of the languages from immersion. If he was just stopping in various places and living there for several years before moving on, I think he'd pick up the languages pretty quickly.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for or if you meant like actual specific languages, but I've only really thought about it in a more general sense. I don't think I could list specific languages because it really just depends on the circumstances in which they learned those languages. For instance, I think all the characters could learn specific languages from an MC who has a native language different from their own. It just depends!

Fuck you Jaysteph haters on tiktok and why
So, I was peacefully scrolling tiktok a while ago and my page and I saw a video about ships etc, you know, normal stuff. I check the comments and people are going on how shipping Jason and Stephanie is bad? Weird? Considered batcest of all things?
And I was fucking baffled. Taken to ancestral tree, slapped by my great-great-great-great-grandmother and came back.
Because what the fuck?
I don't ship them per say, because #Jayroy is one of my favourite ships of this fandom, but you know, different tastes and all. If I see a good Jaysteph fic I'll read it, because it's fun and interesting and usually well written. And that's fine.
But when I saw some of those takes - mind you a couple of weeks ago - they just forced itself into my memory. So I'm gonna go one by one and tell you why the fuck this is wrong. I wish I could find the original tiktok, because god I wanna say this to the face of those people.
I saw a comment that Jason is way too old for Steph. And ym, no?
There is 3/4 years difference, depending when and which canon you're going for. It doesn't help that Jason was dead for more than 6 months, but hey, lets settle on 4. I know we don't like to talk about ages in Batfam and how nobody is really ever questioned here, but if Jason is 26ish that would put Steph at 22ish. In the worst case scenario.
Really they're more of a 2 year age gap , since most people put Tim at Jason at 3 years and Steph is 1 year older than Tim.
Another thing - one of the most popular ships for Steph is her and Cassandra Cain, who is THE SAME FUCKING AGE as Jason. Or even older in some runs. If you don't have problem with StephCass , but do have one with JaySteph and say it's because of age difference I would check if you're not infantalizing WlW relationship or Cass, for whatever reason.
The other one said "but they're like siblings"
Fuck you too, random internet commenter on tiktok.
You have 2 options here.
Either 1. Treat StephCass also as Batcest, move on with your life and shut up.
OR
You acknowledge that Steph was never adopted by Bruce, she is not his daugther and other people seeing her more like a big sister is not an indicator that she is their sister. Tim sees Barbara as his older sister, but does that mean that Dickbabs is inherently incestual? No.
They are not siblings, therefore it is not incest.
I get that you can just don't like the ship. That's okay. Go see the content for the ship you like.
But going on and on how a ship is bad for moral reasons and being wrong at that?
I'll buy you a one way ticket to hell and personally call Satan to tell him that you're being a little bitch on the internet.
That's actually my main two points. Anyway, I need to go to work and be a productive human being who doesn't hate on totally normal ships on tiktok.

aaaaaah, this is so late but! wowza, your latest rollo fic. i was perplexed, like, how could your brain came with such banger ideas and symbolisms?? (not restricted only for your rollo fic but for all of your fics, that rook one also tho.. chefs kiss)
:O thank you so much!!!!!!!! Rollo activates the part of my brain that works in overdrive when I need to get something done. I wrote the fic and its symbolisms so quickly after looking through Bible verses on obsession/lust. There is just so much inspiration and opportunity for religious symbolism with Rollo!!!
✧ the bible verse about lust and temptation being evil and thus giving birth to death - it's a juxtaposition to what Rollo's doing in the fic: knocking you up when you're most fertile. So then if (by the bible's standards) lust gives birth to death, it will seem so when Reader inevitably falls pregnant (as she didn't want to get pregnant in the first place), but for Rollo this is the beginning of life and all great things. So from his perspective, his lust is giving birth to happiness and fulfillment, but for Reader it causes her immense grief.
✧ the number three (i.e. Rollo doing things in threes like answering on the third ring or knocking thrice) - symbolic of divine harmony and wholeness.
✧ the crow - a representation of death, destruction, and grief in the bible.
✧ the goat - often a symbol to represent satan/the devil. However, goats (and lambs) are often used in animal sacrifices, whether to appease the divine or darker forces.
✧ the winter weather - oftentimes, we associate death and gloom with winter because plant life shrivels, animals hibernate, and it becomes deathly cold and quiet. Yet the friendship Rollo and Reader have is so very warm and wonderful. It's also a fitting backdrop to mirror/contrast their dispositions: Reader is a warmer, happier force that balances Rollo's colder, darker force.
✧ Reader wearing all black (lipstick, dress) vs. Rollo's white (hair, pale skin) - the classic contrast of black (darkness) with white (purity), only the roles are swapped. Rollo thinks you're filthy because you drink and party and allow yourself to be led by your own temptations, while you think he's "pure" because he's been nothing but sweet and friendly to you. This reverses by the end of the story.
✧ wolf in sheep's clothing reference - this is just canon Rollo. He acts kind and cordial, but there's always more hiding beneath the veneer he curates.
✧ cat and mouse in partnership reference - the moral of this fairy tale is that cats and mice are natural enemies who will not change even if put in a dire situation. Though he will forever and always be sweet to you, it won't change the fact that he does (and will continue to do) terrible things.
✧ the orange that's part of Reader's breakfast at the end - sometimes a symbol of fertility and prosperity.
Aaaaaa forgive me for rambling about symbolism!!! orz I'm very happy you can enjoy the symbolism in my Rollo story and other stories as well!!!!! ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡) the Rook story is one of my favorites I've ever written because it's just so dark and Rook is so horrifying in that kind of plot. I'd like to write darker stories with Rollo as well!! There are plenty of ideas and concepts stored within my drafts..... >:)

They're claiming that the Illuminati creates alters with Illuminati sensibilities in Good Christian Citizens, so that said alters can effectively serve as "super spies" to spy on the Christians and tell the Illuminati what the Christians are up to:
The proper training of a person for this role would be long and tedious, but once he was trained, you would have a super spy compared to which any creation in a mystery story is just plain weak. This is what the Illuminati have done. They create good Christian fronts, with Illuminati dark alters who can see what the Christians are doing.
Hmmm... a long and tedious process, you say? Hmm, imagine if there were easier ways to get this information... like reading Christian publications, listening to Christian radio, watching Christian television, visiting Christian websites, or just attending church services... it's not like these people just blast their agendas to anyone who'll listen 24/7 or anything...
The fact that there are people vain enough to think that there are secret conspiratorial cults going to all this work to do all of this unnecessary spying is kinda funny, IMO. Christofascists are some of the most self-absorbed fuckers on the planet.
Later, Cisco Wheeler cites the lyrics from "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera as an example of a "hypnotic script." Yeah, it wasn't like, a song written for a character who was canonically supposed to be creepy or weird or anything.
Seriously though, this is a great example of how conspiracy theorists ruin art. Anything that's a little weird or uncomfortable to them must be some sort of evil programming. God forbid they have to understand things like context and artistic intent and shit like that.
Next is a list of things that supposedly keep a child's mind dissociative. One item on the list is spending fifteen minutes a day writing backwards, an obvious mutation of the old "witches recite the Lord's Prayer" canard. Because writing backwards doesn't cause dissociation. You just learn to write backwards.
And the rest is pretty typical torture stuff; many of which genuinely happen in actual child abuse cases, but in the context of the conspiracy theory are given special significance, because... shitty parents don't just abuse their kids for no reason, I guess.
And the book claims that Billy Graham was a Monarch handler. I really have no idea why conspiracists have singled him out among all the other celebrity preachers of the time, lemme go look at his Wikipedia page...

By the way, pinning the conspiratorial blame on Kabbalistic Jews specifically is how a lot of the conspiracy theories Nazi Germany believed in were made palatable for American gentiles post-WWII. Most Christians would agree that full-out mass slaughter was a little unfair. Many Christians could agree, though, that everyday Jews were perfectly fine people; they just needed to accept Jesus. And believing that it's just those Kabbalistic Jews who are the problem doesn't feel as hateful as all that Nazi shit. Must be totally different, right?
