Why is Akutagawa literally like the best Bungo Stray Dogs character ever?

this is half satire by the way, but I mayyy go into depth for SOME things if I feel like it. (big fat silly kinnie rant with spoilers)

hes a cutie patootie. yeah he's brow-less but like, its 2024, who isn't? seriously. show me an alt person on tiktok with eyebrows /hj

hes silly. Yeah he may be extremely violent especially twoards Atsushi (the foot in the face was definitely personal) and anyone else he is made to defeat, but that's quite literally how he was raised. Don't forget we're talking about PM Dazai here. He was raised by Mori, what can we say? (#justice4dazai2024) We can assume (using the BEAST manga) that up until the point where Dazai turned him down, the things that occurred were relatively close to canon.

(or not idk I didn't finish the mangas. why read some rando's essay that can't even spell's abt some sassy victorian man child on the internet, infact, why are you even reading this in the first place?)

So we can assume he's been through a hell-of-alot of trauma with everyone close to him. His siblings and friends dying, and even himself tasting death and Dazai was practically his savior-- his controversial, abusive, strict, hot, gay, problematic, silly, teenage savior. Even if that's not what went down in the main series, what he went through was enough for Akutagawa to idolize Dazai, the same man that has hurt him oh so much.

(hey its the cycle of abuse, and guess who was next in line?) that's right, Kyouka. (even if Kyouka was more impacted by Kouyou) But no, this won't be a rant about Akutagawa and Kyouka's relationship, it's simply "Why you should love Aku" and totally nothing else. wait, what was I saying??

the fit is fire. I mean like, bring back ruffles frl. he ate down. he's even so silly he doesn't even know the name of the ruffle thing he's wearing (the collar ruffle thing is called a cravat.)

hes a Picies. They do no wrong. Trust me, I know. (totally not biased or anything)

His relationship with Atsushi. Their so cute like every scene together even when their fighting its just like 'make out alr'. He seems heartless and cruel and its like he hates Atsushi, but really as you can see when "Where's Your Head At?" by Basement Jaxx started playing, he cares for Atsushi deep down inside. Deep, deep, deep down. Must be really deep if it took literally dying to be nice. Seriously, even if he called him a 'damn fool' he's smiling, it's so sweet it makes me cry. As the blood traversing in his neck goes on its repetitive journey for its sole purpose of bringing oxygen to the rest of his body, it suddenly changes direction, hurriedly spraying out of the newfound opening made by a time traveling sword, and finally escaping through his pale, soon to be lifeless, dark red soaked neck. Yet, he is smiling through it all, telling his furry boyfriend "rival" to run. he cares. Just look at this beautifully colored pannel by Akutagoth on reddit:

hes an introvert, fight me on this real.

hes fruity. you don't even have to ship sskk to agree, just listen to how he talks. either this or he's a time traveler from the 19th century.

the hair solos, like seriously, his hair is so cool I want it. bring back dark to light fade. /srs

Also, speaking of hair, anyone else ever notice how yin-yang Akutagawa and Atsushi are? Yeah they are both orphans that were taken in by Dazai and "abused by their handler" ('handler' is wild ngl) but in the main series Atsushi is more Yang and Akutagwa is more Yin, character wise, and even design wise. Yet, in Beast (a spin-off where Akutagawa ends up in the ADA and Atsushi ends up in the PM) the roles are reversed and Aku is more Yang and Atsu is more Yi, further emphasizing that this difference between the two isn't accidental (not claiming simply speculating).

Akutagawa is relatively bad but he has shown how he could be good, in the main series, Wan, and beast. he's undeniably a good brother (just look at how much he cares for his sister in beast, he even joined the ADA and made it his purpose to find her after he learned that she was in the mafia.) He keeps promises, hates meaningless torture-- which believe it or not shows a bit about his character-- (haha he does have emotions even if it may be stemmed from a deep psychological trauma). He also has a mainly dark but light accent wardrobe, from the ends of his hair to the very same accessory that he can't even name. help I ran out of good character traits I think I'm failing

Atsushi is relatively good, and even seems to be blind to it at times, but he has shown his not the best traits. He's kinda like Gon, but less merciless, even when it comes to fights with Akutagawa (sometimes). His good:bad ratio is pretty skewed though, no matter how much he may envy or hate his kindness kinda just... drowns it out. Evil headmaster dies? cry. Evil goth boyfriend partner dies? scream. Evil American enemy still lives? team up with him. Evil 14 year old serial assassin in the port mafia exist? save her.

Although, he's pretty rash/blunt (that Dazai diss was wild aku didn't do anything to deserve that) and its also shown in wan and other scenes in the main series that he would probably participate in a 2017-19 roast battle(hj) and holds some strong grudges. (help I ran out of bad character traits he's too good, its like he's so good and he doesn't even try.) Butttt apperence wise, his singular black hair streak in a head of light whatever-colored-hair (in contrast to Akutagawa's) and accents of black (suspenders, tail-belt-thing that moves as if he was Cat Noir, tie, gloves, pants, shoes) do what Akutagwa's 19th century ruffles do best. Be utterly useless and ugly and feed into the theory that he is a time traveler Contrast.

Basically, Shin Soukoku canon because opposites attract.

coquette fashion faves 🐇🎀⛸️💒🎧

the other day my mom inadvertently called me a bimbo for liking high fashion. to be fair, she did catch me watching rick owens fw22/23 when i should have been writing my lit essay, but who's she to judge? anyways, here's a quick list of fashion brands whose work i adore as of late. i'll try to include links to some of my fav shows from them too xx #girlssupportgirls

++necessary disclaimer: this is all just for fun!!!! obviously, these are all just my personal opinions. i'm in no way a fashion expert, nor am i claiming to be. live laugh love, gaslight gatekeep girlboss :3

LUXICIDES' DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO FASHION BRANDS IN THE MODERN AGE ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆

1. MIU MIU

at this point, eeeeeeveryone has heard of miu miu. how could you not?

founded in 1992 by none other than mrs prada, miu miu has been having a (imo) well-deserved revival in the past few years. as the sister label of prada, miu miu serves as a more "youthful, playful and affordable alternative".

though i personally prefer last year's fall/winter rtw show to be more visually interesting than this year's spring/summer show, AND found their campaign with kendall jenner to be... a little lacklustre, i still love what the brand has been doing.

i just love the way miu miu's runway styling is done - going back to fw22, the incorporation of more preppy influences in their cable-knit sweaters along with the very obvious y2k references (mini skirts, lace and mesh, and those cropped tops girl!) is just... to DIE FOR.

and i'm not going to wrongfully malign the ss23 show! i thought the varying textures and how everything was just so flowy and loose. the set for this show was also incredible.

FAVOURITE: pre-fall 2020 (especially this look!)

2. BLUMARINE

ngl, when i first researched into blumarine, i was CONFUSED. just because i had always seen blugirl (their brand for teenagers) being labelled as blumarine (the core brand).... thanks pinterest.

but regardless, i think blumarine is FASCINATING. to me, they've always had elements of frivolity and femininity, with their intricate embellishments, and delicate lace detailings that are just to die for - every coquette girlie's dream.

lately, though, they've been moving towards more y2k influence: i mean, the ss23 rtw show is 99% denim. look at that and tell me that doesn't remind you of britney justin circa 2001 amas !!!

in all seriousness, i love the direction they're going in. i love that they're still maintaining some of the very ethereal, dainty energy that has been at the core of the brand for so long.

blumarine almost never misses with their styling. it's like their textures always go crazy - in the best way.

though it definitely doesn't get as much attention as its sister brand, blugirl is absolutely worth checking out too. i'm personally biased towards their older collections, think 2004-2005 era. they're literally all over pinterest, so it shouldn't be hard to find either.

3. OZLANA

to me, ozlana is like the perfect combination of every trend i love. their pieces are so delicate and so dainty, and i literally can't get enough of their styling... like the fur coats? the pastels??? the DREAMINES???? oh my god don't do this to me rn.

literally every look from their 2022 shfw runway is basically perfect. to me, at least.

like - the colours. the bows. the denim looks in particular..... and the set!!!! don't even get me started on the set design.

ozlana is another brand i see on pinterest all the freaking time. honestly, they're kind of reminiscent to fw04 blugirl in the sense that they both have such dreamlike qualities to them...

unfortunately, ozlana does use real fur :( so that does dock them down a point. but i still do love their styling, and their pieces without the fur embellishments still are quite cute!

4. CUCCULELLI SHAHEEN

pinterest also brought me to this one!

think glamour. think sparkles. think euphoria but aged up and set kind of in a vaguely old hollywood-esque era. that's Cucculelli Shaheen to me.

Cucculelli Shaheen is NYC-based, and was founded in 2016. which is insane to me, because the level of craftsmanship in their work is breathtaking. their tailoring and the patterns of their pieces are literally... chef's kiss. i'd give up my first born for a dress from them.

listen, the embellishments? the intricacy? the detail??? their pieces are astoundingly lavish and astoundingly beautiful. not to mention, their shoots are basically works of art themselves.

i'm not a bride-to-be, nor am i going to be in the near future, but their bridal collections make me..... goddamn. someone wife me up.

5. SCHIAPARELLI

yeah. you don't even need an intro to this one.

if you've been anywhere on the internet in the past month or so, and i mean ANYWHERE, you've probably seen the recent schiaparelli show. and the reactions that go along with it range anywhere from sane, logical, to absolutely batshit crazy takes.

me, personally, in my oh so humble opinion - i loved the recent show. the phrase "a feast for the eyes" was basically made for this show. i mean, the uproar (get it) over the fake taxidermy heads alone was entertaining, but the show itself was a freaking stunner.

i've always loved daniel roseberry's work. i think he does a great job of sticking to the house's codes, whilst also creating a new, exciting vision for the brand. it's what elsa would have wanted!

daniel roseberry has brought so much drama to schiaparelli in his time there - both in terms of public intrigue, but also in the actual pieces. the garments are so bombastic and literally are each works of art in their own right.

i love their use of shapes and i love the over-the-top-ness of it all. i can't wait to see what they do next.

Eris has offered a combat lesson to each of your OCs - any weapon or fighting technique from throughout history. What fighting styles or weapons do your OCs choose to learn? Are there any who decline the lesson?

Siv: While she's already a fairly experienced fighter, they'd love to refresh on Muay Thai, since Eobard had them take classes in it as a teenager but haven't actually sparred with anyone in years without the intent to kill and/or maim, and they'd like to face off with a potential equal (Siv will probably get her ass kicked).

Hailey: Would love to learn how to fight with a spear or staff, since with her ghostly abilities + a little bit of additional technology to target her powers, she can use some minor cryokinesis and it would be convenient to know how to use that ability to fight with a giant-ass icicle

Jay: Would probably turn down the lesson, since he's not sure if it's accessible for a disabled person like himself. However, if he was absolutely sure, he'd love to learn how to do some kind of martial arts while in a wheelchair.

Cassandra: Would love to brush up on kickboxing (and she'd probably try to figure out how to adapt her fighting style to be able to fight in midair).

Esme: Mostly just wants to learn how to use self-defense in heels, since she's had a couple close calls walking home from clubs and she's tired of having to expose her powers every time someone tries to stalk her.

Gina: Would like to learn Tai Chi, mostly for health reasons but also so she can smack a bitch if they decide to mess with her

Arya: Mostly just looking for an excuse to spar with someone as ancient and experienced as themself, decides to take a lesson in knife fighting for the hell of it

Ember: Also wants to learn how to fight in heels, since most of the time they're dressed in drag anyway.

Cat: Prefers to use her wits and a gun, since she's physically rather small and weak, so she might turn down the lesson.

Kyle: Would love to do some wrestling! He's done it before, for a couple years in high school before he switched to football, and he'd love to pick it up again, since it was a lot of fun for him.

Max: Might turn it down, since he can summon his mech suits with just a press of his earrings and take care of any situation like that.

Eric: Prefers to use magic to fight rather than physical force, but he might take a Taekwondo class just for the fitness benefits.

Jacob: Acompanies Eric to his class, because he knows his husband is going to end up spraining SOMETHING because he has no idea what he's doing. This has happened many times before.

Khalil: Would love to learn boxing! He's always wanted to pick it up, but has always felt unwelcome in most classes because he's a rather feminine man and tends to get treated poorly by his classmates.

Antonio: Because he's literally twelve, he wants to learn Ninjitsu, and fight with a katana. His parents immediately object, but ngl I get the feeling that Eris is going to teach him anyway.

Reggie: Would love to learn how to use a shuriken, just for bragging rights with xer friends.

Ameerah: Immediately declines, she prefers her wits and her powers in order to take care of situations.

Rania: Would probably just want to learn some basic self-defense moves in case some idiot decided to try something on her walk home from work.

Director Hawke: Eris doesn't even get halfway through their offer before Hawke recognizes Eris as a metahuman, and a huge fight breaks out (never mind that metas and witches are almost genetically indistinguishable, she has to have her little group to hate)

Meredith: Would want to learn Kalaripayattu, since it's a lesser known martial art and it focuses both in armed and unarmed combat, both of which it would find useful.

Cory: Since Cory's pretty small, Mok Gar might be right up his alley, since it was designed to help a smaller, weaker person to overpower someone who is bigger and stronger.

Kelsie: Prefers not to get into violent altercations, and only uses her plant-based abilities to get out of situations. However, just for the knowledge, she'd want to learn how to use a trident.

Torryn: Is already highly trained in Jiu-Jitsu, but he'd love to take a class in order to refresh his skills and potentially learn any new moves that he didn't know about before.

Onnie: Is already a pretty skilled martial artist, but at Eobard's urging, she'd ask Eris to teach them Lethwei, since it's one of the most brutal, bloody martial arts in the world.

Pippa: Probably just wants to learn fencing, because she's always wanted to try it but never had the money. Also swords are cool.

Jessi: "Ew, no. This is genuine Balenciaga. Do I look like I want to get all sweaty in this?"

Hyun-Ki: Would probably be interested in learning Kendo, since while he doesn't really have a need to learn martial arts, given that he has bodyguards, swords are cool.

Marie: Would love to learn Okinawan Kobudo, since she's trying to get closer to her heritage after losing part of herself (memories, personality, etc) after her assimilation.

Liah: As a pacifist, she'd probably say 'no' right off the bat, though she might be convinced to learn how to use a shield in a purely defensive manner, in case someone tries to attack her.

Qiara: Is quite literally an all-powerful space god, and does not need to defend herself.

Soraya: Would love to learn Capoeira. While it's not the most useful martial art, Soraya is a former gymnast, and the complicated flips and moves would be right up her alley.

Thalia: Thalia would probably be interested in Hapkido, with its focus on both unarmed and armed combat.

Reyna: Would want to learn how to use nunchucks, purely for the bragging rights. Eris, please don't trust Reyna with any potentially lethal weapons. It's already bad enough with her having a lightsaber.

Laila: Probably turns down the offer, since she prefers to learn on her feet, and challenges Eris to a sparring match.

Athena: Athena would probably go for learning Junshi Sanda, so she can turn her already brutally competent fighting skills into a full-on weapon.

Pyrrha: Would love to learn Aikido, since she's already an extremely competent fighter, but she would love to learn some less violent methods of taking down an opponent that don't involve gruesome death.

Samira: Probably would turn down the offer, given that she considers herself far more of the brains than the brawns, and prefers not to get into physical altercations.

Aldrich: Would turn down the offer, since he does NOT want to be in the same room as someone else's blood if there was an injury.

Matt: Probably would say 'no' to Eris's offer, since he's pretty sure he'll fuck up his joints if he tries any crazy new moves.

Sohelia: Would be very interested in learning Eskrima, given its focus on handheld weapons. Even a couple inches more of distance between her and someone else's blood in a fight could mean life or death.

Vanessa: Would love to learn how to use a crossbow, since she's only seen them in movies and it looks like a really cool weapon to use.

Dolores: Since there's very low risk of her losing control and hurting someone, she'd love to learn archery.

Victorie: Would turn down the offer, since she does NOT want to be in the same room as someone else's blood if there was an injury.

Kayla: Took judo when she was younger, would like to take a refresher course so she can remember everything she learned back then.

Dori: Because they are a huge nerd, Dori would love to learn how to use the chakram, given that it's Xena the Warrior Princess's weapon of choice.

Ellis: Given that angels have no need for human martial arts, Ellis would graciously turn down Eris's offer, since they can just go all "Be not afraid" and scare any potential threats shitless.

Gabi: Isn't much of a martial arts kind of gal, but she would love to learn how to use a medieval broadsword, just so she can use one at the Ren Faire.

More Fragment Fox thoughts because he's vibing in my head and my heart right now.

The Fox Mask he wears changes in tune with his emotions just his physical state. His child form has a simple mask with a mischievous grin-it's the cutest design by far. His teenage form's mask is the closest to the actual Foxy mask Michael loved. Finally, his adult self bears a mask that resembles an animatronic head more than actual mask, with a jointed mouth and ears. When things get tense, when Michael's anger gets the better of him, or when he is overcome with the instinct to protect, the mask morphs into a scary face. Ashen fur and glowing eyes and sharp teeth like Grimm Foxy.

The tail stays with every form, longer and fluffier with the older he gets. It poofs out whenever he gets mad or surprised. This happens often.

Still grumpily denies Evan/Goldie and Gregory from touching his tail, but Foxybro likes to use his own hands to pet his tail. It's a nice texture stim, twisting his fingers into the shadowy fur, and then combing out the knots.

Hisses and growls at things he doesn't like, but that has less to do with his new foxy traits and more to do with him being Michael. (Ngl I can see Gregory picking up this habit.)

Vehemently denies it as an adult and teenager, but when in his child form, Foxybro hums all of the Freddy songs. He gets super excited when Goldie sings along to the Freddy and Friends cartoon theme.

Finally . . . Let him bite Glitchtrap.

Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa Bo-Katan. This isn't because she ignores the signs or anything; Ventress just subconsciously gets it right for Force Reasons.

Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them NGL I feel like this is a Ventress move. She is very embarrassed about it and will probably fight you if you notice. Also it might not be 'doodles' so much as 'carvings,' but that is neither here nor there.

Who starts the tickle fights I'm torn but I think this would be Ventress. It starts as Force Pokes to the ribs and then Bo escalates.

Who starts the pillow fights Bo-Katan has siblings. She is well-acquainted with the art of pillow warfare. She swings and lands the first hit.

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile I want to say Bo-Katan. They're both early-to-bed early-to-rise, but Ventress gets up even earlier than Bo, for meditation, so Bo's sleep cycle is shifted a little later than Ventress's.

Who mistakes salt for sugar I don't think Bo-Katan pays much attention while cooking tbh. She pays enough to not cut off a finger while chopping veggies (barely), but that's the most I can say.

Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning Ventress. She does not strike me as someone to consider this might be a problem.

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines I think they both struggle with this, in that they think this is something they should try to do, but they need to source pick-up lines from other people. Bo-Katan fumbles the lines, and all of Ventress's honestly sound like threats. Flirty threats, but threats.| TBH a lot of how I'm imagining this is two women who want romance, and found someone to want it with, but have spent their teenage and early adult years in such weird and culty settings that they aren't entirely clear on how to go about a relationship.

Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order Bo-Katan, full stop.

Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies I know I said that Bo doesn't pay much attention while cooking, but I do think she's the only one of the two that would bother with baking at all. Baking sweets is not a skill I see Ventress picking up in the version of this I have in my head, but I can imagine Bo trying just because it's a sweet rebellion against what she was indoctrinated with, and a show of affection that, again, she feels she should be doing.

Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion Ventress. Bo is suspicious that they are for Magic Things every time.

Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen Bo-Katan. Ventress already has real tattoos, so she finds it funny, and Bo likes sketching out armor designs, so they both have fun.

Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation Ventress has a game where she tries to stick souvenir magnets on Bo's armor while her back is turned. She digs out the whole collection every time and as the collection grows, the challenge does.

Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines I think they both do this, for the aforementioned 'want a romance but are unsure how, and so follow dubious social construct guidelines."

I've finally figured out how to fit Shiny in the Tiny Tots AU if you'd like XD (of course you don't have to answer if you don't want to ^^)

- Originally I was gonna have Shiny the same age as Jessica (not just in this AU, but in general). However now that I'm developing her more, I think I'm gonna make her 14 rather than 10. So she's closer to Smartass' and Greasy's age group. She is also no longer in her magician phase because of this (though I'm thinking maybe this would be when she starts getting into dancing. Not club dancing! But like maybe she finds a way to sneak into a regular dance studio, sees all the people practicing, and decides that this is what she wants to do).

- Shiny is just starting out on her menace-to-society life XD she's just starting to shoplift, pick pocket people using her slight of hand skills, and she's getting better at lying. So she will not be an easy child like Stu or Roger.

- Since she's one of the older kids, Shiny would probably hang around Greasy, Smartass, and Wheezy more often than the little ones. I've already got ideas for how their relationships would be (though as I develop Shiny and the AU more, this may change).

With Wheezy, well he's the designated dad so we know where this is going XD Shiny tries to hide and deny it, but she does genuinely like him and trust him. She's just scared he's going to go away or something (still haven't figured out a blood family situation for her. But it definitely wouldn't be a happy one). So she tries to keep a safe emotional distance in case it does. As such, she's like Greasy in a sense that she's one of the more distant children of the group; wandering off on her own, not completely sharing what's going on with herself, etc. That and, she's a teenage girl. She does throw a bit of attitude his way every now and then (ngl I can see them having that same argument Lilo and Nani did at some point. Wheezy is stressed but worried for this kid, and Shiny is getting defensive because or hormones and she doesn't want to be emotionally vulnerable, "If I'm so much trouble, why don't you just drop me and go live your own life!?"). But she does still listen to him; if he asks her to watch over one of the kids, she'll stay. If he offers some advice, she'll keep it in mind, etc.

With Greasy, they actually get along pretty well, and can work together to be menaces XD They have similar backgrounds and wanderlust. Though Shiny, even at 14, has more control than him. She likes Wheezy, so if Greasy has gone off on his own even though Wheezy asked him to stay, Shiny will volunteer to go find him and bring him back. Or if he's being a jerk to anybody in the group, she'll lightly smack his arm or something and tell him to cut it out, etc (she wouldn't care if it was a stranger though). I can see Greasy offering her tips he picked up off the street, and even looking out for her if they're out together. Maybe she winds up opening up to him first because they're so close even.

These two aren't related, but I like the idea of Smartass and Shiny developing a sibling relationship XD Shiny goes off to bug him when Greasy isn't around, she calls him Shrimp because he's small and pink, and Smartass is just so damn tired of this crazy kid when he already has to deal with everybody else XD but I can also see them having an emotional moment too. Like Shiny finds Smarty on his own, she can sense there's something wrong with him and for once she's calm. She sits with him, maybe they don't talk because she knows he's not like that and she understands not wanting to share your trauma. But she just sits with him, not pestering him or anything. Just letting him know he isn't alone.

- Even though she hangs around the big kids more, Shiny does love the little ones too ^^ Stupid- she adores the baby boy. Who doesn't? She will attempt to steal him from one of the others if she wants to hold him XD Psycho, she feels like he should be her missing cousin with how energetic they both are. And Poppy honestly gravitated towards her; Poppy, like Roger with Jessica, thinks Shiny is so cool. And she reminds her of her best friend Psycho, so that's even better in her head ^^ Shiny absolutely does not mind and bonds with her.

- If Shiny ever found out about any of their home situations, she'd be furious and sad on their behalf, and she'd want to confront the adults herself. Even the ones who might not even be in the picture anymore. And she totally asks Wheezy why he hasn't adopted everyone already XD "You're already their dad! Why not make it legal???"

- Shiny also joins in with Wheezy about teaching Jessica and Poppy how to deal with creeps.

This is all I got for now. And again, this may change in the future. But here you go anyway XD I hope you like reading these ^^

These were SO fun to read yesterday!! ^^ I love them! Especially Shiny trynna get Wheezy to just ADOPT them XDDD I can imagine this scene going, like- she tries to storm off and find Poppy's parents or something, and Wheezy catches up with her (Doesn't grab her. Very important. Maybe he can grab up the little ones and just sorta carry them off when they misbehave but not past Smartass- and not Smartass!! 😅😅) like uh uh nope you get back here feisty pants and she whirls on HIM.

He's just like... damnit. But takes it cuz this is one of his kids.

Jjba Stardust Crusaders Ep. 30-33 Thoughts

Iggy goes to do fuck all while the rest of the crew splits in two.

Before I actually talk about the episodes, I wanna briefly give my opinion on the OVA. I haven't watched past part 10 obviously but I think it's important I'll mention it in a later post.

I vastly prefer 2010 anime over the OVA. The production value of the anime is just way higher. The dark tone of the OVA doesn't fit JJBA tbh.

BUT. I actually kinda love them? They have their charm. The darker alternative take is fun, if it was the only animated JJBA option I wouldn't be satisfied with it but as an alternative it's nice. Polnareff and Kakyoin's expressions in the N'Doul episodes are just so funny.

There is a thing or two it does better than the current anime and the manga I think. I really like Kakyoin's portrayal in some of the episodes. There is awkwardness to his mannerisms that you would expect from a teenager, that is not present in the anime OR the manga. His build is also a lot more closer to your average teenager too. That being said, OVA Jotaro runs in the opposite direction by looking 40 in some of the episodes. I don't wanna talk about that tho since everyone has talked about it death.

Also the long haired Star Platinum is pretty sick ngl. Looks even more like Bruford.

Ep. 30-31 (Mariah)

Oohh boy. I don't do well with second hand embarrasment. There are a lot of embarrasing moments in part 2 and 3 but these two episodes are filled to the brim with them. From the walking stairs to entering ladies restrooms to the y'know what. Managed to push thru tho!!

I've noticed a trend with the second half of SC of putting more attention the the stand users. With more iconic designs an all. I wouldn't call Mariah's design original, it just gets the job done (The job being looking conventionally hot).

Advol being really proud about digging a hole to avoid the train is kind of endearing :)

I thought the back and forth between Mariah and Joseph at the end was nice. Joseph's va was especially good in it (R.I.P. Unshō Ishizuka). Mariah saying she'd be down to be with him despite their ages being far apart is really funny considering Dio is tecnically 130+ years old.

Mariah's motivation is a bit of a downgrade compared to N'Doul before her. I mean, being down bad was only part of the reason why he was following Dio, c'mon.

Yeah I don't wanna talk more about this episode. Sorry to all (both) people reading this for reminding you about Ep 31.

Ep. 32-33 (Alessi)

Look at baby Chariot. No don't look away,, you will look at him and you will appreciate him.

Let's also take a moment to appreciate Set not being given to any other person, because the only thing keeping Pol and Jotaro from dying is Alessi being one of the stupidest mfers in the show.

I bet everyone has mentioned this before but I don't care, this was such a good opportunity to bring back part 2 Joseph that it hurts. If you are can do all that fanservice the episode before you can certainly do a part 2 Joseph cameo. I can't complain too much, I do love these episodes as is.

I would say Jotaro not recognizing the earings and the clothes of kid Polnareff is stupid but he thought Joseph's story was bs while having an evil spirit following him, like, in the first episode. So. Not out of character really.

I like the detail of Kid Chariot being more like a sentient companion since kid Polnareff is not fully attuned to his stand yet. It even reaches for Pol when he is drowning :(

If I had a nickel every time Jotaro casually walked into Polnareff dealing with one of Dio's goons without fully knowing what's going on, then beating the shit out of the goon; I'd have two nickels. It isn't a lot but it's pretty funny that it happened twice.

Kid Jotaro kicking ass and then rolling up his sleeve just so he can point and say a cool one liner is killing me. Jotaro is secretly the funniest character in the show.

You can tell Chariot's sadistically smiling under that mask. Amazing.

I love that story goes out of it's way to tell us Alessi is 38 and single.

And the episode ends basically the same way as ep 1.

Overall, I do like these episodes a lot. It's silly and fanservicey in a completely different way from the last episodes. The "your favourite glup shitto has a cameo in the new movie" kind. Seeing baby versions of our favourite characters is something most of us would like. I'm over here not shutting up about baby Chariot. It's like baby yoda. Clearly it worked on me.

Jotaro and Polnareff's interactions this episode really helped to show their friendship. It's hard to remember that fact sometimes with how Jotaro especially is but they really do care about eachother.

I wanna do 34-39 next, then 40-44, lastly 45-48. Seems like the most logical way of going about it.

I know in my heart that the confrontation with Dio is NOT gonna go well. No one has died yet and considering JJBA's track record, yeah, I don't think they'll all make it alive. I did say Kakyoin was my favourite early on but I do love all of them, it's gonna hurt real bad no matter what.

And shfkdjf I will happily talk about him! His name's Caleb, and he's Impulse and Skizz's kid (to no one's surprise with our obsession), I'm thinking our Imp and Skizz from one specific AU. So like, an AU of an AU if that's the case, I'm not sure, BUT ajekfjrj- They're trans (so is Impulse) and use he/they. He's teenage years, we're not exactly sure how old but probably 15-16?

Both his parents play a decent part in raising them, but since Impulse also has Hermitcraft, they end up spending a lot of time with Skizz (but he has visited Impulse a couple times). He's picked up a lot from Skizz like certain phrases, sounds, his energy and optimism, etc. They can be a bit wild and love to mess around, but they're sweet and caring like Impulse. They enjoy meeting new people, but he can actually be a bit shy at first and not really sure how to interact (since they don't get a lot of opportunity). They probably have ADHD because a) we're thinking at least Skizz does in this AU if not Impulse as well and b) I cannot have a character without projecting a bit come on now /hj

We've drawn them a couple times, though like everything else our design changes slightly every time we do- but he's got Impulse's ears and horns (though one horn is broken), Skizz's wings, and a kind of fluffy tail that doesn't really come from either but we thought it was cute- and yeah! we love him sjdkkfkd

(I feel like this is long even trying to limit it I'm sorry skdskfk, I have too much to say- but thank u for asking, we've never really gotten to ramble to anyone about himb)

I love them, they sound so funky and neat and I am staring. AUs of AUs are always fun ngl

Okay so I finished Maya and the Three and heres like what I thought of it (this is all just opinion based fyi . I am not a professional show review person. This is just what I thought abt it. Thx ✌🏽):

IT WAS AMAZING!!!!

There were some many similarities to this show and The Book of Life!!!! Well, more like how they’re in the same universe canonically. Also!!!! There are some lines that I remember being in both Book of Life and this show, like “son of a leopard!“ and when Zatz died when he was holding up the snakes head, he looked at Maya and “I love you Maya”, like in the exact same was Manolo “died” when he saved Maria and his friends/family. Like 👏👏👏👏 sooooo many parallels i could list lol.

Also!!!! The character designs!!!!! Personally my fav design was Chimis:

Mayas design was a little weird to me since her head was like GIANT (or maybe she has a regular head and i have a smol head idk):

Also, this show is like for 10 y/o kids and im like. A teenager. So if ur gonna watch it there’s obviously going to be cringey moments since this show is like for kids.

Also!!!!!!!!!!! The ending lowkey made me cry a bit. So now im headcanning that when the Tecca start celebrating Mayas birthday as a holiday, and every year she and Zatz come down from the sky to like. Catch up on things and yknow. Hang out and stuff.

Also Maya and the Three au where the exact same thing happens in the show but all the characters that i like get revived and everyone is happy ;-; and like get to b kids cause technically

Like i thought the director was gonna pull a “ha ha! You thought they died, but they didn’t! They live!” whenever a character like Acat died. But. Not until the ending when everyone like visited again. Canonically, Maya and the Three were mostly in their mid-to late teens, so in my au, they all just do teenager stuff. Like, since Zatz can fly around and stuff, Maya and the gang go on a high pillar so Maya can jump off it to see if she can float. She doesn’t but Zatz flies her around for a bit. Also!!!! Zatz could’ve been good friends with Rico, like Rico giving good and/or badish relationship advice to him. Or Zatz being besties w/ Chimi and doing each others hair, like Zatz having Chimis hairstyle and Chimi having Zatz hairstyle. Or like Maya and the Three shorts where they go on quests and have quirky shenanigans!!! I want that!!!

Needless to say, this was an amazing show and I recommend watching it!!!!

watch this! – the bad kids

I am in full rambling mode, so today I’ll have my shot at brainwashing you into watching The Bad Kids (隐秘的角落), with no spoilers past what any online summary would tell you. Clear your mind and prepare for my nonsensical advocacy of this baby:

What is it?

12-episode Chinese web series that’s been all the rage in China for the past couple of weeks, and for good reason

As of this post, the show has an 8.9/10 score on rating site Douban, which is shockingly high for a domestic drama (most Chinese dramas are heavily scrutinized on that website due to a user base that tends to be very critical). I typically ignore hype trains, but this is one that I’m truly on board with and I’m waiting for this to gain more overseas recognition

Discreet psychological/suspense madness that doesn’t scare you while you’re in front of your screen, but will creep up on you once the sun sets (unless that’s just for me; I’m unreasonably scared of a lot of things)

Summary: three children go out to play, accidentally record a guy committing murder, and then—like all normal children would—decide that they can use the incident to blackmail him for money

What could possibly go wrong in that situation

Why watch?

Plot – in terms of execution, this gives off a similar energy to Japanese anime of the mystery genre (if you’re familiar with it, Erased was what came to mind) in that it frequently favors usage of dialogue, cinematography, and mood-setting over action: hence, the “psychological” aspect. There’s so much more dimension to the plot than solely the murder, which merely serves as a jumping-off point. Figuring out how every individual piece of the plot is going to come together is exhilarating and insanity-inducing. This is me at any given moment while watching (and ngl, this is my current state as I write this, shortly after having finished the series):

Thick® acting chops – when the summary says “three children,” it means children. This isn’t like one of those high school dramas where a buff 25-year-old actor with clear skin is trying and failing to pass as a teenager; the three kids are played by child actors who are legitimately around the age of their characters (the youngest is ten years old in real life. That’s so young that my “old” self can barely comprehend why she exists). Their roles are crazily demanding, yet you don’t ever catch them faltering.

The guy that has the role of the murderer is so good. This character was designed to have you second-guess every positive and negative judgment that you make about him; and this man holds that precarious balance between unassuming and psychopathic. If he weren’t a murderer, I might even venture to say that he’s attractive. I said “if,” okay? Don’t give me that look.

This is an out-of-drama-context photo, but LOOK HOW CUTE THIS MURDERER AND HIS THREE BLACKMAILERS ARE:

Dark elements – not accurate to call it “horror,” seeing as the primary goal of the drama is not to have you cowering behind your blanket. It also doesn’t aim to be overtly creepy. Rather, it’s capable of making you feel unsettled in your subconscious. It’s the general feeling of uncertainty that gnaws away at you: there are a crapload of implied truths whose lack of 100% confirmation leaves you in mental limbo.

This may not be traditional horror, but the opening animation gives me the heebie-jeebies and I want it to be buried twenty feet underground in a lead casket that’s been sealed with Gorilla Glue. I would include a screenshot of it, but that would mean that I’d have to watch/hear it again, and I absolutely refuse to do that. From an artistic perspective, this is definitely the most creative and deliberate opening for a drama I’ve ever watched.

The “soundtrack” that plays during episodes is freaking terrifying. I’m referring not to the actual songs (which are great, too), but to the interjecting tracks that are made out of...unusual noises? One that is stuck to the forefront of my mind is this thing where they use a heartbeat as the beat (ahaha) for other sounds and it’s absolutely unnerving because the bass of it is so boosted that it feels like your own pulse is being magnified. BIG NOPE.

The relationships – key moments are built around human interactions. Most of the relationships often feel as if the parties involved are estranged from one another, especially when it comes to those who should be closest – the children with one another, one of the boys and his parents, etc.

The title is “The Bad Kids,” but the show tackles it almost as a social commentary. The children are infuriatingly innocent in how they choose to go about blackmailing the murderer: they still act like children, even when making the conscious decision to do a sketchy thing. Yet as each episode passes and they confront more and more of their personal issues, you as the viewer are also forced to confront the fact that kids are shaped by the people around them – should the adults around them be inept or irresponsible, then the ones who learn that twisted behavior are the kids. So, do with that what you will. (Noteworthy is how the translated title is a direct translation of the novel that this show is adapted from, 坏孩子 by Zi Jinchen. The Chinese name of the show, 隐秘的角落, translates to “Hidden Corner.” This makes sense in context, but I wouldn’t conclude that one title is totally better at encompassing the show than the other.)

Front and center is the relationship between the kids and the murderer. I really, really liked how this was executed. There’s a peculiar amount of entertainment value in watching these scrawny children and a grown adult play an extended game of chicken – it’s in both sides’ interests to keep the other side’s secrets, but they also have to simultaneously outplay one another at every moment. Honestly, sometimes it’s a nice source of hilarity. What I liked most is that each individual child’s dynamic with the murderer is unique from those of the other children.

It’s short, in exactly the way that this post is not – 12 episodes leave no room for nonsense. If you despise plot filler or side plots, there’s no need to worry because there’s none of that here. I feel like there could have been a couple more episodes to break down each character more, but chances are that that’s just my unreasonable obsession with character development talking. I’m glad that there’s a drama director/crew out there that recognizes the value in making the show exactly as long as it needs to be (ahem...I’m looking at those dramas that shamelessly have over 50 episodes with 30 of those episodes being garbage).

Into the deep – I’ll probably tackle watching this a second time and maybe a third to scrutinize every scene. This show is short, but that ensures that every episode is packed with hints, symbols, and questions which are impossible to understand in a single moment. Sigh. I’m scared.

TL;DR – The Bad Kids is thoughtful, atmospheric, and keeps you on your toes until the very end. Here’s to hoping that this becomes the standard for future dramas. Aaaand I’ll see you later. Gonna go rewatch. And get scared again.

Hi! I think yr totally right about Felix's teeth probably not being great and how he and the rest of the crew should have more scars! Do u have any other lil appearance HCs for him/the whole gang? (:

OK! SO! I have a Lot of HCs about the crew, appearance-wise, anyway. Don't get me wrong, I love their canon designs, but I feel like they didn't utilize "Halcyon is fucked" enough with your companions? If that makes sense. I'm going to break this up character by character, so it'll be an easier read!

Also, I'm gonna put a TW on this for slight self harm on this?? It's not emotionally motivated at all, it's like when you'd compete to see who can get the gnarliest eraser burn in middle school, but nevertheless, I want to warn y'all ahead of time, it's on Ellie's part.

Parvati:

-Honestly, her eyes are gorgeous. They're brown, but an amber kind of brown, and very bright.

-I personally HC that Parvati chews her nails when she's nervous, so they're always nubs and usually pretty dirty, bc Mechanic and all.

-Her hands have faint scars from nicks and burns from working on machinery. The skin on her hands doesn't scar easily, but she still has a few gnarly scars from particularly bad burns or cuts that she wasn't able to take proper care of.

-Constantly has bruises of unknown origin on her arms and legs. She bruises very easy, and always has, which is kind of precarious when you're a mechanic.

-This might already be canon and I just haven't noticed bc I'm using the Switch version, but I HC Parv has some freckles sprinkled around her face. Not a lot by any means, but I HC she gets frequent sun when she's working on certain parts of the town, and freckles are a bi-product of that.

-She has a couple small scars on her face; one just below her eye on her cheek, and another on her chin. I like to think she fell on her chin, and the other was from her first project that blew up in her face, literally.

-Her skin is just a bit ashy because she hasn't had access to a lot of good lotions over the years.

-Despite taking a shower every morning, she accumulates grease smudges and dirt from her plants on herself very easily. She cleans up for her and Junlei's dates, but for casual visits both don't really bother. Sometimes they make a game of smudging each other with grease while they work and by the time they're finished their faces look like they were going for war paint.

-I like to think Parvati and Junlei eventually wear rings with each other (like, years down the line) and when Parvati gets deep in thought, she rests it against her lips. Junlei does something similar by turning her ring on her finger.

-Parv has ok teeth, not like great, but she takes pretty good care of them, even if sometimes she has to forgo it for a day or few while out with the Captain.

-When she's in Edgewater, she's always skinny, and if you squinted you probably could pick out a rib or so. But after she moves in with The Captain, she gains weight, and finally has the little pooch of fat that you're supposed to have around the middle. Ellie helps her keep up with nutritional needs (what you can get in Halcyon, anyway) and gets very proud when she makes her goals.

Felix:

-This boy has horrible teeth. His sweet tooth + being an orphan in the Back Bays didn't leave much time for proper teeth cleaning. He probably never really had enough bits to get toothpaste with, either.

-Oh, boy. He has scars galore. Some are from scuffles (he has some on his back from when he was a kid and used to get in trouble for stealing) but a lot are also from getting burned by pipes, or jagged metal. A fair few are from him doing dumbass things in his teenage years ("I wonder what would happen if I heat up these rounds of light ammo with a flamethrower??") because you can't tell me this boy didn't do dumb things like every teenage boy did but with more disasterous results bc SciFi.

-His nose has been broken quite a few times, so it's crooked in a couple spots.

-Can frequently be found with bloody knuckles just because he forgets that punching someone with a mask over their face really isn't the best idea. This eventually culminates into him making the "Millstone Drop-Kick!" his go-to move.

-This isn't exactly appearance related, but I HC Felix has a fucked back from his life of hauling heavy boxes. It doesn't help that he drop kicks literally everything that moves tho.

-Probably has chronic pain in his hands from his hands getting crushed by boxes at some point or another. Several of his fingers are crooked from being broken and improperly set. His bones probably aren't the best bc of poor nutrition growing up, either, so they're a little easier to break.

-Just. Me thinking about Felix in his 40s, or even early 30s: Honey, you have a big storm coming.

-This is also a little random, but I like to think that it takes a long time for Felix to grow any kind of facial hair (he has chronic babyface) so he's super proud of his scruff.

-Max: That's peach fuzz. If that.

-Felix: Leave me alone you big hairy bastard, just bc you have to shave like every other day to keep a clean face doesn't mean all men do!!

-(He's just a bit sensitive about his facial hair)

-(He one day dreams of growing a glorious beard like Sanjar's, but it would take him like 50 years)

-(Shut up Max one day he'll have an amazing handlebar mustache and you won't be laughing then)

-I have no idea if piercings or tattoos are a Thing in Halcyon (probs not, honestly, but I can dream) but if they are, he tried to pierce his ears by himself once, they got infected, and he got really sad when he had to let them close. The marks are still there but the holes have closed by now.

-ELLIE PIERCES HIS EAR AND HELPS HIM KEEP IT CLEAN

-Felix is strong, but he's skinny and gangly as all hell and it's hard as fuck to get him to gain any weight, mostly because he still has his habit of eating only what he needs and stashing the rest. It takes him a while with the crew to get over that, and when he does, he gains a healthy amount of weight around his middle. Ellie teases him a bit, but is 1,000x happier that he's no longer damn near a walking skeleton.

-Listen. Ellie and Felix are bros I don't make the rules. She denies it but she would kill for Felix.

-Usually has slight dark circles under his eyes, because he has nightmares sometimes and can't sleep.

-His eyes are really, really pretty. Like. Super fucking pretty. He has long lashes and they sparkle when he smiles. His eyes are hazel like Max's, but more on the brown side, with streaks of green radiating out from the pupil.

-Speaking of smiles. He has the goofiest and sweetest grins around. A little self-conscious about his teeth, but honestly that doesn't stop him from laughing and smiling with everyone. He has a couple broken teeth, but honestly it just makes his grin a lil lopsided and cute.

-He gets the Worst bed-head. It stands almost straight up in every direction, but it's really easy to tame. Mostly because he just runs his hands through it and calls it a day.

-He found Max's hair gel once and went Ham. He used the whole can sticking his hair up into a mohawk, and proceeded to parade around for Ellie and Parvati. Then bolt to his room and lock the door when Max shouted his name from the bathroom. Max's hair was out of whack for like. A week. He kept blowing it out of his face and Felix and Ellie would giggle like madmen when he did.

-*BANGS FISTS ON TABLE* FELIX IS BABY! FELIX IS BABY!!

Max:

-My MANS

-Listen, I am extremely gay for Max. This needs to be known before I continue, because I have a metric fuckton of Max HCs.

-So, first off, Max takes VERY good care of his appearance. Like. Insanely good. His hair is always perfectly held back by a moderate amount of gel, his nails perfectly trimmed and cleaned. He keeps a clean-shaven face.

-But don't let that fool you, Max can and will get down and dirty when need be, he just doesn't care to stay like that.

-Quite a few scars from his prison and Tossball years. But because of the clothes he wears you wouldn't be able to see them easily. Mostly on his back/sides, though he has a couple on his torso and legs.

-The Captain calls him Bigfoot because his grows hair really fast and his arms and chest have some pretty thick hair. Max is very confused, because he personally doesn't think his feet are that big.

-Not an appearance HC per se, but he smells like soap, aftershave, and books.

-When he doesn't gel his hair, it falls in his face constantly, and it annoys the fuck out of him.

-Fuckin ripped bro. Just. What the fuck. Why is a priest this fuckin shredded. Why make my gay little heart ache more than it already does, Obsidian??

-Despite his arm muscles being like. Huge, he still has a healthy layer of fat over his middle, mostly because being an OSI Priest, he got a little bit better nutrition VS. literally all of Halcyon.

-When his knee gets Bad (like hiking through Monarch with the Captain) he has a slight limp? Barely noticeable, but you can tell he's not putting weight on it. I HC its an old Tossball injury (that might be canon, I haven't played in forever).

-Its hard to tell in the different lights of the game whether his hair is Black or Silver, and I like to think he's greying, but not fully grey yet. He can have a little hair color, still. As a treat.

-Fuckin no lashes to speak of. None at all. Baldy eyes. Its the only part of him that doesn't have really thick hair and ngl he is very salty about it. Tho his actual eyes are very pretty; they're hazel with a lot of green. He has a darker ring on the outside and flecks of brown in them.

-Has very good teeth, whiter than most of Halcyon's because of the OSI providing for him.

-Broke his nose once during Tossball, though he was able to get it set alright. Slight crook in the bridge of his nose.

-He has a lot of those moles from his face scattered around. Particularly his shoulders and back.

-Also have you seen his fuckin canon thighs??? Bro. They could crush a watermelon. Once again, I must say, what the fuck, why is this priest so fuckin shredded.

-Actually takes his physical health very seriously, so I like to think he's in great shape for his age. Seeing him in some of the canon outfits though makes me more inclined to think that's canon.

-Sorry, I have thought about this A Lot, and the gay jumps out of me sometimes.

-A fair amount of scars on his arms. Not as many as Nyoka, but a little bit more than Parvati.

-Has calloused hands, but they've softened over his years as a priest.

Ellie:

-Now I feel like Ellie wouldn't have many scars that she didn't let scar up on purpose to give her an edge. They're essentially superficial; they look cool but didn't do any real damage.

-Also, her skin is very pale, so she doesn't scar easily anyway.

-Though she does have some, and they're more recent. A couple of gashes on her arms, and a bullet wound in her side. She's proud of them.

-The dark circles under her eyes are because she likes to stay up late at night. Sometimes she contemplates her life, but she doesn't like it, and usually doesn't bother too much.

-Her lashes are very thick and full, and they compliment her eyes very well. Her eyes aren't exactly ice blue, they're a bit darker, and have real pretty lighter streaks in them.

-Yes, her lips are naturally that color. Good for picking up women, bad for looking intimidating to marauders.

-Really soft skin, she's always had access to good lotion. After she leaves Byzantium, she purposely looks a bit more grimy than she did then, which is easy to do because of her skin tone.

-Has a few moles and freckles, but not many, mostly on her shoulders and back. She was inside a lot prior to her leaving Byzantium.

-Her hair doesn't really sit down when she sleeps, but it does lose some poofiness, so she has to meticulously push it up in the mornings.

-Not quite an appearance HC, but I feel like when she gets comfortable with ADA, she gives her compliments. Stuff like "Your screen is very bright today, ADA!" ADA does the same thing. "And your hair is looking very bright as always, Dr. Fenhill."

-Muscular, but lean, and puts on weight a little easier than others, so she wouldn't look like she could kick your ass without her pirate get-up, but she could 100%, no holds barred kick your ass.

-Very good teeth. Despite wanting to look like a gnarly pirate she takes dental care very seriously. Tho she thinks about getting punched in the mouth occasionally so she could like break off a piece of her tooth. Not the whole thing, just enough to make her look tough.

-Idc if piercings and tattoos aren't a Thing in Halcyon, Ellie has pierced ears. Three in each ear, and I like to think an eyebrow and maybe nose ring. She doesn't wear them when she's in Dangerous Situations because she firsthand had to fix ears that had their earrings ripped out during rich catfights that she does NOT want that to happen to her.

-She also has tattoos covering most of her back, and some of her upper arms. She got them "illegally" (meaning it's illegal to The Board, but the Groundbreaker doesn't really give a shit) on The Groundbreaker and she's proud as fuck of them.

-I have Feelings about the missed opportunities for illegal tattoo/piercing parlors. Like I know there's not a lot of self-expression to be had and no Art aside from fonts, but c'mon. Humans have drawn on their skin since the beginning all around the world and we WOULD find ways to do it again, even if it's needle-poke tattoos.

-Anyway, back to Ellie.

-You ever hear of a "lighter tattoo"? Basically, you heat up a lighter and then stamp the hot metal into your skin and it makes a mark in the shape of the lighter head. If you get it hot enough and hold it long enough it can scar. They have a similar thing in Halcyon with Plasma Cutters. Instead of Stab, you heat it up, turn it off, and press the blade to your skin and it pretty much scars within a couple seconds.

-Ellie 100% did a few of those when she was in Byzantium as like the "hahaha edgy" thing that teenagers do.

-Like I know technically kids aren't around but... bruh... you can't tell me that teenagers in a SciFi setting wouldn't do dumb ass shit like that.

-Ellie is honestly the baddest bitch and I love her, ok, she just reminds me so much of of those high school delinquent tropes in 90s movies

Nyoka:

-SO I HAVE SOME FEELINGS ABOUT NYOKA'S CANON DESIGN... IN THAT SHE'S ESSENTIALLY A MONSTER HUNTER BUT SHE HAS NO SCARS!

-Listen, ok, she would 100% have a lot of scars from her life on Monarch. I share some HCs with @nyokaacore in that she has three scars over one of her eyes, and a few others around her face, like on her lips.

-The bulk of her scars are on her arms and body, though, as she usually is able to get the Canid or Rapt off before they get to her face.

-I like to think the scars on her eye are from Freida, the first Rapt she ever killed that's taxidermied on her wall.

-But she has a lot of scars from Raptidon claws and Canid mouthplates, sprinkled with some Manti burns and burns from Rapt spit.

-She also has her fair share of bullet scars on her, and definitely has some patches of skin discoloration from incidents regarding the sulphur pools. Chemical burns are a bitch.

-She's tall, and not exactly curvy? But broad. Big shoulders, wide hips, sturdy legs. Looks like she could kill you, could actually kill you alignment.

-The sand and sulphur in the air plays Hell on her skin, so she's got some old acne scars and places that scarred up into moles on her face. Has an issue with dry skin.

-Her skin is also pretty oily, and she washes it when she can, but water is usually better spent being drunk than washed with. However, she does carry a spare bottle of non-drinkable water to wash Rapt acid off in emergencies, so sometimes she'll pull from that to wash her face with.

-Big hands, calloused, pretty scarred up from her time on Monarch.

-I also like to think that she can tell you stories about most of the scars she has, lmao.

-Her nose, like Felix's, has been broken quite a few times and is pretty crooked.

-Most often, you see Nyoka with a slight sunburn on her face. It's hard to see, but her cheeks are usually warm to the touch.

-Her teeth aren't the best, but she does take as much care of them as she can out on Monarch. Still pretty yellow with some cavities, but not as bad at Felix's.

-Honestly the dark circles around her eyes are usually because she doesn't sleep a lot. She has dreams about CHARON, and that's not her favorite thing to do.

-At a pretty healthy weight for Halcyon, and ofc, has muscles as big as your head.

-Surprisingly soft hands, though.

Ok first things first: "only kills when he feels like he has to" ?? I feel like I have to kill about 10 times a day lmaoo, doesnt mean its ok to do it. Five murders intentionally, Vanya kills when she loses control. I think this is a significant difference to make, if entirely irrelevant to the issue of white favoritism.

The way I understand the term white favoritism here (correct me if I’m wrong English is my second language) is the writers/producers or fans treating a white character better than they would a character of colour. We see it in white characters receiving more screentime, more complex and thought out storylines as well as better development both in canon and in fan works. We also see it, as others have pointed out, fan reactions such as Lila getting dragged for being a brown girl version of Five.

However, where fans are concerned, I think it gets a little more complex than “Person A doesnt like this poc character, but likes that white character, this is racism”. See, fandom likes to think they are gods that take canon and play with it as if it’s a piece of clay, but tua is an extremely well-crafted visual media, these characters have a lot to them, their presentation, the way they are written, and their development dictate the audience’s response. Most of the responsibility with avoiding something as subtle as white favoritism, imo, falls on the show’s creators; you cannot expect/rely on people having good enough analytical skills to recognise both the creators bias and /possibly/ their own.

Do you think that Robert Sheehan’s wardrobe choices are accidental? Or the fact that teenagers are in love with Aidan Gallagher? Both characters are designed to be attractive to certain demographics (LGBTQ+ community/ horny kids that dont have a one direction(those two do overlap)). The issue here isnt so much about which character does the worse thing and is forgiven by fandom. The issue comes down to the fact that fans are more willing to empathize with characters that are better written (to be likable) and better presented. Not nicer or more moral.

The whole Point of the show is that there aren’t objectively good or bad people, but if there were, all of the sibling would fall into the bad category. That’s why it’s a good show, it makes you empathize with people who do awful things. That being said, Vanya is a well-written character, but she’s literally the Big Bad of season 1 and a red herring big bad in s2. Shes way too central to the plot to not be given the required attention. But in terms of fan-reception ( and this is a very difficult to say for certain, as it’s impossible to measure) I have noticed that people tend to not care for her as much? When i say she’s a “smoll bean”, ya gotta notice the irony, I am fully aware she murdered people (although how much of that was her fault is up for a Very Long Discussion), she was by no means a likable character until s2 where she got to date Sissy (and i think this was also very intentional of the writers).

So, to get back to the point of your ask: Although there is always some racial bias behind every creative decision, I don't think shes that big of an example of favoritism on the side of the creators here, she needs to be a compelling character to perform her function, but at no point do i think, “man, Vanya is just so perfect, what a wonderful person, truly a model human being i want more of her and only her.” And this might just be my experience, but i haven't noticed her being much of a fan-favourite. In fact, I think she’s the second least liked character after Luther. People argue a lot about if she shoud be forgiven, she’s definitely not viewed in entirely positive light. The people who love her, mostly find the positives in her relationship with Sissy and the wlw representation. Which is a neat trick that Steve pulled, ngl, he got us there, he really knows his demographic(oh boy but thats another long topic right there). I don’t see much fan content about her on her own? Idk I could be wrong or too desensitized.

≫❥ hi, hope everyone's doing good. so um i've been inactive on tumblr for a long time for many reasons; whether it was 'cause of losing interests, life getting in the way, etc. i neglected this blog and kept leaving and coming back. i've been on this platform for years now and kept switching between other platforms for the times i've been mia on here. i've tried out instagram, then came back to tumblr, but switched again. i changed between interests—from photo editing to gif making to graphic design to video editing and now back to using photoshop again for making gifs, hopefully. for topics from kdramas to kpop to western back to kdramas, etc.

≫❥ however, i feel like tumblr still holds a space in my heart closer to home unlike instagram. perhaps because it's where i initially started out that i grew more attached to this platform. also maybe i'm getting older and most people on here are the og ones, they're more at the same age range as me, unlike instagram. age has never been an issue to me, i have friends who are much younger than me and those who are older (but mostly young ones) and they all are very dear to me. but i guess i just needed some friends with a closer age range too.

≫❥ i have made some lovely friends on here and i'm forever grateful for those sweet times. however, over the years when i abruptly left tumblr, i had also lost touch with them. so, i might have no friends left on here which saddens me a little but that's all on me and it's okay, i can always try getting in touch with them again, right ? but i'd love to make new friends and reunite with my old ones, so please feel free to message me anytime you wanna be friends, my dms and askbox are always open <3 (doubt anyone's reading this at all lol but it's worth the try i guess heh).

≫❥ anyways, what i'm saying is, i'm coming back this time for real, or at least try making a better effort into taking good care of this blog. i used to be a content maker (mostly creating gifs) but stopped at some point and only rb posts now. frankly, over the time dramas would have a less impact on me, i wouldn't be as much interested in them as before and switched interests but then again came back to them, just now i'm not up-to-date with the on-air ones, i would watch a drama that i find being interested in, so it's random and inconsistent, i don't watch a lot of dramas like i used to (surely my list of watched dramas became quite poor too oof). but i do watch some every once in a while when i find the time and am in the mood for it. my personal favorite genres nowadays are thriller/action/fantasy/comedy dramas with slight romance (teenage romance makes me cringe now when watching those, idk maybe i'm just getting old lol).

≫❥ but another reason to why i stopped creating content was also because i was too focused on whether my post reaches a wider range of audience ? i would get scared it wouldn't get much attention compared to the time and effort i would give into working on my original content. surely, this would bring the content creator down but at the end of the day i chose to be here because i find joy in making the content i wish the world to see and it's still okay if the whole world wouldn't see it as long as i shared it on my blog and me myself am satisfied with what i'm posting. this applied to all the platforms i would use as a content creator. so, one day i just stopped looking at the numbers. and my mind was much more at ease. now every time a post of mine blows up or it would get more recognition than usual, it would make me happy inside and i would be grateful but on the other hand if it would flop, i wouldn't care anyway and still be okay. and why is that ? well, that's because life comes in the way. other things happening irl outside of social media would keep my mind busier than having myself wasting my time by sulking over some digital numbers online. and i guess that's when one's perspective on wanting to gain more recognition on social media changes.

≫❥ anyways, i went a little off topic there heh. so, my blog would mostly consist of the dramas i've already watched or the ones on my watch list or if i find a pretty gifset, i'd rb it too :) i'm rambling on for too long now, oh god, my apologies (i mean i doubt anyone's reading this but that's fine, it's like more for me to get this off my chest).

≫❥ i guess with this post i'm trying to announce that i'll be back to this blog being more active with rb posts and i will also start making content again, but this time it'll be mostly different from the content i've been making so far. my usual content would be creating simple gifsets of scenes/dialogues but i've come across so many artistic and beautiful gifsets that i'd like to give it a try. also since i'm not up-to-date with on-air dramas, making gifsets of the dialogues and scenes from those dramas wouldn't happen—by the time i'd start those dramas people would have made gifsets of the scenes already anyway. this would mean for that kind of content i would give in a much greater effort into making the gifs looking more artistic/aesthetic and that's why i'd post less of my original work. but i'll still try to keep the blog active by rb other people's posts in q of course. however, right now my life is a little bit of a mess, i'm standing on a thin line between education and career, so i'd need some more time to sort this mess out first and then i'll change things up with my blog. i'm excited to come back though; this blog is still getting love from people even at times when it was completely dead and it's still growing which surprises me a lot and i am truly thankful for each of your support. i feel like i don't deserve this, i've been a terrible owner. but i'm willing to change that once i get my life atm together hahah.

≫❥ though i'm not sure how tumblr works now with the changes over the years, i'll just do me and somehow try and revive this blog again. i come back on here because i feel content browsing my dashboard seeing all these beautiful posts on here and i truly wish to come back to being a content maker like these wonderful artists too.

≫❥ ngl, i miss getting on/off anon asks in my askbox (although i wouldn't get that many but it still made me smile every time i received one no matter what it was about as long as it wasn't offensive <3). i missed talking to my friends and people on here. i missed rb ask game posts and get excited whenever someone reacted to it. i miss posting original content and reading other users' tags and them fangirling about a certain topic. i missed the times when i was interactive with my followers/mutuals. i miss the old times on tumblr. when i would have friends on here and a community that was warm and supportive. i wish to experience all of that again.
