like this is just my late-night read but- it feels like guilt qbad is trying to twist into pride. he keeps needling away at it. “i killed them all, over and over and over again.” “they were hunted by a monster.”
it’s like- reassurance. like a nail he’s trying o beat into his head. he’s had SO much trouble with legitimately hurting his friends, despite making that vow all the way back when the eggs first went missing, despite all the tree talk and the promises to save the kids no matter what. He never faltered with elq, and that protected them. He keeps faltering now. Sometimes he doesnt remember the code, or cucurucho, or skeppy. But that doesnt matter, right? Because he’ll protect the eggs. He’ll be the monster. he is the monster. he can and he will protect them even as his seams start ripping and he keeps breaking further and further apart. even at his worst, he’ll do whatever he needs to protect the eggs.

But now theyre out of purgatory. And he refuses to regret what he did because he *had* to do what he could to save dapper#and the other eggs#because he has a huge complex about being the ‘only one who can protect the eggs’ because of a thousand little cuts and his mental health#issues. Like he’s Wrong bur its such a fascinating little direction for his character. Yes king burn thyself on the pure of protection#and then burn in a nuclear blast too because your self sufficiency left you to care for your egg alone#you can take care of the eggs. you can hurt your friends. look at how much you hurt your friends#look st the monster you are . your teeth are sharp and your claws are large#never mind that time you sent tina into a panic attack because you tried to recreate safety#never mind that your friends and family are worried about you#you are falling apart. but so many monsters survive the killing blow

HA uh it's not a real cult! it's more like a cult following if anything, the Guys™️ are just dramatic / passive-aggressive about it
a 'cult following of what' you may ask! well! it's a cult following of Wally! or more specifically, Wally's art. it isn't like, Famous or anything, but there's a niche group of art enthusiasts/snobs/etc that are borderline Obsessed with it (in my mind his art Is pretty funky! i like to think that he has mild associative synesthesia, which bleeds into his work along with his disregard for art 'rules' and the like)
it's not a huge problem? just a minor nuisance. and as a plus, it means that those people will pay absurd amounts for Wally's pieces when he sells them (or is doing commission work)!
Wally has mixed feelings about it. on one hand, he does Not mind attention & loves to talk about his art and meet new people. on the other hand, a lot of his "fans" are overbearing / over-familiar and blatantly misinterpret him and his art. so while Wally loves attending art shows etc, whenever he recognizes one of his "fans" walking over he'll often make an excuse to leave for a minute (or one of his friends will act as sort of a bodyguard lol)
#but yeah the context for the tidbit eddie heard#was that a 'fan' happened across one of wally's pieces hanging in poppy's tearoom#(bc he gifts his friends art yk! they all have ~Darling Originals~)#and the person started being a snob about it and tried to be like 'how much will you pay for this'#despite poppy saying that its not for sale and will Never be for sale#her friend made that for her :(#thankfully it doesnt happen often#since wally is a very private person and does not let Anyone know the area he lives in#to the corner of the art community he's in he just kinda Shows Up and then vanishes#which adds to his 'mysterious' reputation lmfao#rambles from the bog#wh modern human au#i have this funny scene in my mind of that one 'fan' bring one or two friends to see the artwork in poppy's tearoom#but wally's already there#and poppy notices before he does so she literally hauls him over the checkout counter and hides him behind it#but yeah Those People will wax poetic about wallys art right in front of him#theyre all 'ah yes... an apple representing blahblahblah shaded with cool colors to symbolize blahblahblah and a worm to signify blahblah'#while wally is internally like 'i just like apples and wanted it to have a friend <3'#he doesn't say anything but hes Tired lol

been doing some no pronoun doctor writing and it's fun to realise which expressions dont automatically have personal pronouns attached and which do
like, you can hug someone impersonally but taking them in your arms is harder. you cant shake your head impersonally, though you can turn that verb into a noun and then it works. you cant open your eyes or talk with your mouth full impersonally. you cant hide something behind your back or surprise yourself. you cant bite your tongue. and 'the doctor blames the doctor' means something slightly different than 'the doctor blames []self'
