a/n: this is my longest fic ever omg 😭 teehee i love adding him with cold hands🙏 this fic is inspired by falling behind by laufey, the lyrics r in between paragraphs or they’re in italic and bold !! i don’t know how to feel ab this one 😭

you felt like cupid was against you. “he called me pretty y/n. he called me pretty.” enid says, clutching your hand in excitement. you notice how the sunlight hits her face perfectly, no wonder she’s got ron all over her.

and my best friend’s found a new guy

you tried hard. really hard. it was practically impossible for you to get a boyfriend. sure, you had better things to worry about, but it was hard to stop thinking about it when you saw couples everywhere you went.

you were honestly desperate at this point. it was pathetic, really pathetic. but you just couldn’t manage anymore. you wanted to have someone who would let you cry into their chest when you were low, someone who would bend down to tie your shoelaces when they were undone, someone who would love you.

like a normal teenage girl, it was no surprise that you had a crush. of course, to your luck, you didn’t have even a slim chance with him. you were naive, wanting a boyfriend but crushing on the boy who hated your guts. you had fallen in love with carl grimes.

you and the boy weren’t exactly best buddies. when you were younger, he would tease you every chance he got. it’s not so different now. carl had made it his number one priority to make your life a living hell, and oh boy, was he successful.

he was tormenting you, but not in the way he’s trying to. he was all you could think about, and it was irritating. he could be making fun of you, and all you would focus on was his pretty face.

god, his eyes were like the midwinter sky, you could stare at them all day without getting bored. you often found yourself also gazing at his lips. they would be moving but you wouldn’t hear anything. it was hard to focus on things when you were around him.

“y/n? hello.. did you not hear what i just said?” enid says, eyebrows furrowing into confusion. “no, i did- sorry. go on.” you felt bad, you knew she was happy about this. so why couldn’t you just listen and be happy for her?

“whats distracting you so much? you’re really out of it today.” she says. “nothing, it’s not important.” “you sure? seemed pre-“ you watch as she glances behind you, talking instantly coming to a stop. you notice how her face flushes before she grins. you turn around to see ron, mr. prince charming, smiling at her.

“go, we can talk tomorrow.” you say, nodding your head in ron’s direction, a slight smile appearing on your face. “thank you, thank you, thank you! i promise we’ll talk later. you can tell me all about what you were daydreaming about.” enid exclaims, quickly rising to her feet, finishing her sentence as she walks over to the lanky boy.

you were making your way back to your house, looking down at the ground beneath you. it’s not that you were completely devastated you didn’t have a lover of your own, but you were upset. “wait up loser!” you hear a voice call out from behind you.

your footsteps come to a halt and almost instantly, carl grimes is standing next to you. you felt your heart stop. play it cool y/n. “hi..?” you wanted to smack yourself right there and then. hi?? hi?!! you were so basic. “what’s got you all quiet? you’re usually so loud, you’re kinda scaring me.” he jokes, noticing how your usual smile was turned into a slight frown.

you found it kinda weird how he noticed the little things about you. you’d known each other for years now, and if you were being honest, he probably knew you better than enid did. boy, did it give you butterflies. if only he liked you back. “m’ okay. jus thinking about something. it’s really dumb though.” “everything you say is dumb. what’s up?” there it is. the daily insult.

“like i said, it’s nothing. don’t you have something better to do?” you say, looking him in the eye. “yeah, but i think this is pretty entertaining. now, can you please tell me what’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?”

ooh, this can’t be right

you knew he was probably being sarcastic, but his words still made your heart beat faster. anything carl said made your heart beat faster.

“you really wanna know?” “have i not made it obvious enough?” he says, rolling his eyes playfully. you sigh. “don’t laugh, but it’s like- everybody’s falling in love and i’m falling behind.” “what do you mean?” he was.. interested in what you had to say?

“everyone is getting their perfect fairytale and i’m just there. enid keeps talking about ron, how he calls her pretty and everything. they’re perfect. meanwhile, no one has even had a crush on me. it’s hopeless. i’m only getting older, i’ve never had a shoulder to cry on.”

carl looked at you with sympathy. “you’re really clueless aren’t you?” he asks, chuckling. “huh?” “y/n, who do you think left the comic you really wanted on your doorstep? who do you think got you the heart locket necklace thingy for your birthday? you’ve never thought about why they were just laying there?”

“i dont- i thought it was just enid surprising me or something.” “i dont think enid sneaked out the week before your birthday to make sure you got a good gift.” he said, looking straight into your eyes. “are you saying- that’s impossible.”

“i am in love with you. that’s what i’m saying.” your eyes widened, mouth parting slightly. “but- how? you’ve hated me since we were like- i don’t even know.” “who said i hated you?” okay. what was going on? carl grimes, the boy who’s been tormenting you since you could walk is confessing his feelings to you?

he sighs. “i-i know i’ve been an asshole. and i’m sorry. i’ve just been scared.” “scared..?” you ask, a puzzled look on your face. “terrified. y/n, you’re the most beautiful girl i’ve ever laid eyes on. i don’t- i didn’t know how to express my feelings. so i’ve just been being a pain in the ass. i know you don’t like me, and tha-“

you closed the space between you two, instantly laying your lips onto his. you didn’t know what was happening, but you knew you weren’t going to waste this opportunity.

one of his hands found its way to your back, pulling you closer. you felt the other one rest upon your cheek. the only thing that was surfacing in your mind was how good the sensation of his lips on yours felt. it was purely euphoric.

as soon as you both parted lips, you already missed it. “what does this mean? w-what are we?” you ask, voice quieter than usual. his cold hands reached for yours, a nervous expression on his face.

“i really wanna be yours. only if you’ll let me.” his words rang throughout your head, the words not processing.

“i really want you to be mine, carl grimes.”

I was actually considering making a sequel before this ask came in though, so good timing! Also, don't worry, I too am a huge simp for domesticity. 2/2 Keegan requests finished after my veterans day hold-up AHHH (note to self: write domestic fics while listening to laufey)

The light, refreshing breeze of warm spring air comes through your kitchen windows, followed by the chirping of finches at your bird feeder. The sweet smell of wild poppies and daisies fills your nostrils while you make a pitcher full of pink lemonade, slowly stirring in sugar and honey. The small, quaint town you relocated to is everything you could've wished for; the happy little monthly farmers market that's held once a month, the grey cobblestone roads, the old-fashioned lamp posts lining the sidewalks in the square– it was perfect. You thought this life could only exist in your dreams during... that period of your life. The memories of war will never fully dissolve and leave you at peace– but you have a loving family now, something to keep going for.

You dropped a few ice cubes in and placed the finished pitcher on the dining room table on top of the delicate, square flower print cloth. They were white roses, your favorite for a variety of reasons. They’re the flowers that grow in your town's planters and the same flowers your husband bought to propose to you. Ironically enough, they're your daughter's second favorite flower. The drawings of fairies in rose-inspired dresses and leafy hats are hard to fully keep up with, but you try your very best to hang as many as possible on the fridge. The flower was symbolic in more ways than your own sentimental value– It meant new beginnings and eternal loyalty, two things you were grateful to have. One of the roses from your ceremony was pressed and framed next to your wedding photo, hanging in your foyer gallery with the other happiest moments of your life. The day the family home was completed, your proposal, your daughter's first day of pre-school– they’re the quiet moments you smile about when they pop up in your head.

You returned to the sink to wash the kitchenware you used and looked out the window to see Keegan opening the gates, petting the brown border collie, Goose (lovingly named by your daughter) on the way in. You smiled at the sight of your husband. He's finally happy– you're both happy. You snap out of your staring and rush to open the front door, your sundress flowing behind you. Keegan must've heard the opening of the door and the light jog on the dirt path, getting up from the ground, leaving Goose to his shenanigans. He put his arms around your lower back and you threw your arms around his shoulders, giving each other a quick kiss on the cheeks before a sweet kiss on the lips. You softly laughed noticing the transfer of your lipgloss, quickly wiping it off his face.

"Work ended early?"

"No, I just figured I'd come home for lunch today," Keegan said offering his arm to you as you walk back to the front door. Keegan got a job as a mechanic after a bit of consideration. He’s always been handy with things, so the job was practically calling his name.

"You decided to close up shop for today?"

He was referring to your second-best achievement, (first comes your daughter) your boutique. Your mother taught you how to do needlepoint embroidery as a child once she caught you watching her work from the living room doorway. It was one of the more traditional things you learned, despite living in the city. Your love for the hobby evolved into sewing. You haven't picked up sewing since the war besides mending the fabric of your uniform whenever it tore or if a patch was falling off. Besides that, it was a joy to open a small boutique for the residents in the town, often taking special requests for their children.

"It's the first day of spring break for the little one. We were going to have a girly chit-chat over lemonade until you came in, dearie." He opened the front door and let you in before following behind you to lock it.

"Really now? I wouldn't want to interrupt anything." You joked with each other.

"But no, we were actually going to the lake for a picnic with a chance of some girly talk. If you have enough time, do you want to tag along?" You offered.

"Yeah of course. Do you need help making anything–? I can always help you with that sort of stuff–" you laughed and cut him off with a kiss. You both embraced each other and swayed in the comfort of each other's presence.

"I'm aware, but don't worry, I've already got the food prepared. There's enough extra for you too, Keegan."

"Thank you kindly, angel." He never let go of that nickname after all these years. Somehow you look even more perfect in his eyes with every passing day. You've gone through so much together yet your smile, your tears, your laugh... everything about you kept him going. His eyes aren’t as cold anymore because of you. You’re his angel sent from heaven itself. Now he's a husband, a father…a family member to the two people he loves most. Although Keegan never voiced it out loud, he's always thought motherhood looked beautiful on you. Seeing your skin glow while playing with your daughter or seeing your proud face after finishing sewing a pair of overalls for her with a flower embroidered on the front pocket, a purple lilac.

You find it fun to embroider lilacs instead of an 'L.R' monogram on her clothing as a nod to her name. Lilac, Lilac Russ. Keegan was the one to suggest the name, inspired by the bush in front of your fence. He placed lilacs at your hospital bed-side before you brought your little Lilac into the world.

You enjoyed the comfortable silence in each other's arms until you both heard the door to your daughter’s room opening, then seeing her tiredly walk into the kitchen clad in her button-up PJs filling up with joy after seeing her father back early.

"Papa you're back! Me n mama are gonna go on a picnic today! She said she was gonna make lemonade and sandwiches and cake!" She beamed. Keegan smiled at his daughter's excitement. He loves his cute little family so much.

"Your dad is gonna come with us, Lilac."

“That’s right.” He confirmed, ruffling her hair. She let out a squeal before grabbing one of each of her parent's hands and jumping out of pure bliss.

"Yayyy! If I change can we leave, like— right after I'm done?" You nodded and she happily stomped in place, hugging your and Keegan's legs before running into her room to get dressed.

"I'll never understand how that girl has so much energy after just waking up..." You sighed. "You better change out of your work clothes too. Hopefully, we can finish before her." You pulled your husband into your shared bedroom, closing the door behind you. You sat at the vanity fixing your hair, spritzing some perfume, and putting on your jewelry as Keegan picked up different clothes to wear for your family outing. He finished before you, looking over to see the love of his life.  You looked so peaceful. not caring about the problems for the future, but living in the present. He walked over to you and bent over your shoulder to sweetly kiss up the side of your neck, leading up to your cheek, wrapping his arms around your chest.

"You look so beautiful like this– you’re so naturally beautiful. I love you, I love our family."

"I love you too. Thank you for our family, thank you... for everything." The memory of his promise came back to you:

"After this is all over, I'll make sure that quiet countryside life you dream of comes true– I promise."

You take a second look at your lives– it's perfect. A lovely little house painted white in a field, a dog, and the most lovable child as a product of your burning love for one another.

"I'm ready!" Your daughter called. You can hear the tip tap of her running on the wood floors, the kitchen tiles, and finally the wood of the foyer. You get up from your chair and lean into Keegan's warmth as he grabs your hands, placing a kiss on your knuckles.

"You ready?" He asks you. You hum a response and he kisses the top of your head, walking you out of the bedroom. You see your daughter in her frilly dress and purple raincoat with her matching rain boots. Keegan goes out to get your dog indoors after seeing him getting sleepy while you put the food, plates, glasses, and silverware in two baskets. The lacey picnic blanket was already placed in a bag near the front door. Keegan came back in after two minutes, Goose trotting in, heading to his bed to take an afternoon nap. You looked at the various amount of items trying to figure out how to carry all of your things. You look over to see your husband fixing your daughters' ribbon and feel a type of fuzzy motherly feeling, then it hit you—

"Lilac, do you think you can hold the pitcher without spilling it?"

"I can!" You smiled and pat her head in praise, picking up one picnic basket and the tote with the blanket, and handing the other basket to your husband. You put the basket down to hand the pitcher to your daughter. She has one hand on the handle and the other at the bottom of the pitcher, trying to support its weight.

"You got it, kid?" Keegan asks your child while opening the door.

"I'm fine, I got it"  She responds waddling out with the pink lemonade. You slip your shoes on and Keegan locks the door behind you, kissing you before you walk passed him. You and your family walked out of the fence gates but your daughter makes an abrupt stop in front of the flowers.

"Mama, mama! My flowers are blooming! So are yours!" You look over your shoulder and smile at your daughters' reaction to the plants. The white rose bush is planted right next to the lilac bush, finally blooming after a long winter.

"They are, aren't they?” Droplets were still present from the time you watered them in the morning.

“Come on now, I don't want the ice to melt too much, m'kay?" You, your husband, and your daughter walk to the lake in one group. Your cozy little home was only a ten-minute walk from the lake– it's like the Russ Residences' hidden gem. One day in winter, you'll check if it's able to freeze over. Maybe you’ll teach Lilac how to skate for the first time. You acknowledge that thought, and let it pass, saving it for the future. You're here to enjoy your family outing, not to create plans. As you walk the desire path where grass refuses to grow made after many family walks to the lake, you did make one plan for when you three return:

As soon as you come back, you'll look at the lilacs and white roses to thank them, for everything.

Non-Controversial Loki Headcanons for These Trying Times

1.) Loki has had dozens of Midgard-based aliases over the years, for no other reason than the fact that he was bored and it was funny. DB Cooper was one of them. Hank Williams was another. He may or may not have even pretended to be a vampire at some point.

2.) Loki can definitely sing. Not just in a funny ironic way, but like.. he actually enjoys singing. It shouldn’t even come as a surprise considering he’s such a fine arts nerd, but yeah. He plays the guitar too. Surprisingly folksy.

3.) Loki’s rooms in Asgard literally look like a witch’s lair. I mean straight up spooky. All dark earth tones, spellbooks strewn everywhere, runes drawn on the walls to keep certain big brothers from messing with things they have no business messing with, vials of poisonous stuff sitting on every available surface, shelves full of strange little trinkets and talismans, a dramatic ass medieval-looking bed, a whole ass cauldron… and then in the corner on a stand there’s his Hank Williams Guitar aasdfghhjkl-

4.) When people call Loki a witch, they’re not joking. He’s. Like. An actual stereotypical, like.. witch. He doesn’t just do finger wavy magic- he mixes potions, he does rune work, he recites spells, he has a cauldron.

5.) He also used to dress super witchy. Used to. Past tense. I’m talking black nail polish, lots of necklaces, rings, eyes makeup (ok maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but Loki in eyeliner would be pretty hot, right?), clothes that were like.. 15% scarier yet more fashionable than the ones he wears in canon. The only reason he toned it down was because someone whose opinion he cared about (it was Thor) made a joking comment about his appearance looking “wicked” or “evil” and it made him feel self conscious, so he changed how he dressed. :(

6.) He was rocking the whole short hair look years before Thor in Ragnarok. In fact, by pre-canon Loki’s standards, his hair in Thor 1 was even a bit too long. He did this because a.) he hates how his natural curls soften him and will do anything to get rid of them and b.) in Asgard short hair wasn’t really worn by noblemen because it symbolised servitude, so this was Loki’s subtle way of being defiant and deviating from the norm.

7.) As Frigga said in Endgame, Loki is very good at sneaking. Even when he’s not trying to. There have been many-an-accident in the Palace of Asgard because he unintentionally almost gave Thor a heart attack.

8.) Loki and Thor weren’t always at each other’s throats. They actually got along pretty well up until Odin started planning for the coronation. Loki was still jealous of the way Thor was treated compared to the way he was treated, but he knew that wasn’t Thor’s fault- not really. And Thor was still arrogant and entitled, but that was mostly directed at other people and not his own family, so while Loki knew about Thor’s character flaws, it didn’t really effect him personally. When the planning started, though, Thor gradually became even more superior and insufferable than normal, and Loki became even more bitter and unsettled, and their relationship just kind of went downhill from there.

9.) Loki absolutely joined the Mile High Club with that flight attendant from the first episode of the show. Her name was Florence and she was adorable, Loki thought so too.

10.) Loki’s the only person on Asgard who can beat Volstagg at an eating competition. He has a giant’s metabolism, after all. And, contrary to his elegant and refined tastes in most other areas, he’s actually a straight-up carnivore. I mean he eats other foods too, obviously, but meats are by far his favourites. Boar, fish, poultry, steak. Just meats. He doesn’t know it, but this is because frost giants are mostly carnivorous.

11.) His relationship with the Warriors 4 was always split down the middle. He and Sif always hated each other. Hogun never trusted him and Loki never had any interest in spending time with Hogun. Fandral and Volstagg, on the other hand, were always much nicer and Loki always sort of considered them his friends as well as Thor’s. This is why they were more reluctant to believe that he’d let the frost giants in in Thor 1.

12.) I refuse to believe Loki doesn’t have at least one tattoo somewhere. Probably more. Probably of a snake. The only parts of his body we didn’t see naked in Episode 1 were his thighs, lower back, knee area, pelvic region, and the back of his neck. So it’s gotta be in one of those places. (Might I suggest: snake thigh tattoo, tiny nape tat, goth tramp stamp lol, rune tat behind his ear, Norse mythos leg tat, badass above-dick tattoo).

13.) Loki’s prickly and insecure and has layers like an onion, but once you get to the point of actually being friends with him, he’s a total sweetheart. I mean a literal smol dork. A bit hyperactive and excitable, but still very very soft. It’s because he’s had so few actual friends in his life.

14.) Sometimes Loki only goes a few days before his gender changes, sometimes he stays one gender for years at a time. And he tends to shapeshift his body to match. That being said, one of his biggest pet peeves is how his other-gendered clothes get all dusty and musty when they have to stay in the closet for long stretches of time. So he’s taken to wearing luxurious gowns around the house when he’s in his male form. You know, just to air them out.

15.) Loki hates sleeping with people. Sex is fine, but he’s just so solitary and paranoid that he’s never been comfortable sleeping in a bed with another person. This may or may not have gotten him in trouble a few times when his partners woke up and found him gone lol.

16.) Laufey is actually incredibly similar to Loki, the way Odin is very similar to Thor. He prefers smaller blades (ice daggers), he’s very analytical and calculating, he’s very calm and non-confrontational even when he’s in a stressful situation, and tbh he seems like a better king than Odin- much like Loki probably would’ve been a better kind than Thor. (Whoopsie this one’s a bit controversial)

17.) Loki adores animals! …But he’s also a bit obsessive about keeping his environment clean. Not organised, per se, just clean. And animals tend to be hairy and slobbery and feathery and slimy and poopy and dirty, so he’s never been able to have a pet. He just takes a lot of nature walks to compensate :)

18.) All jotuns are naturally intersex, including Loki. This is a bit unusual for Asgardians, but because Loki is genderfluid and a natural-born shapeshifter- and has always had a tendency to change his body parts around as his gender changes (male, female, both, neither)- he’s never had a reason to find it very odd. In hindsight, that was one of the many eccentricities that should have made him realise something was a little fishy with his “asgardian” genetics.

19.) The snake + stabbing story from Ragnarok was nowhere near as nefarious as Thor made it seem. What actually happened was: Someone accidentally mixed a real knife in with the blunted practice knives. Thor and Loki didn’t know this, of course, and when they were playing a battle game, Loki ended up with the real knife. When Loki “won” and went to “vanquish his enemy” he ended up actually stabbing Thor for real. They were both hysterical and it took longer to calm Loki down than his brother. It ended up just being a flesh wound, though, so everything turned out fine.

20.) A lot of people think Loki discovered his “secret passageways between worlds” from TDW through some sort of inter-realm questing or magical study or something, but in reality, he discovered them when he was like 16 and desperately trying to find a way to sneak out of Asgard without Heimdall telling his parents.

Reinvent Thor as being a more relatable and fun character

Relatable to who? At some point I might make a post asking people why they found Ragnarok Thor more or less relatable than pre-Ragnarok Thor. I’m curious as to what the response would be.

Personally I found Ragnarok Thor to be insincere, arrogant, and manipulative, though his “save Asgard” thing was obviously good. I agree with the goal, but his means...not so much.

ALSO. “Reinventing” a character is the exact opposite of what should be done at the end of a trilogy. At that point, you wrap up the plot threads and character arcs. You do NOT throw them all out and start with something that’s regressed even beyond where the character was at the beginning. It’s just not how trilogies work.

If you want to reinvent the character for LOLs, call it what it is—a parody. Parody is a perfectly legit genre. It just makes it clear that it’s not to be taken as part of the original canon.

With a far more extensive power set

Thor was already really powerful. Yeah, the Thor-nado is pretty cool, but he was doing fine without it...?

As well as making him the star of his own GD movie for once without worrying about some other character overshadowing him

You know how you make a character more interesting? It’s not by just flattening all the competition. It’s by giving them more internal conflict. That’s one of the reasons Loki’s so popular. He’d had internal conflict to deal with from the get-go.

They could’ve had Thor finally realize that Odin did screw up, and it wasn’t just a one-time thing, and he wasn’t actually a great parent (or person in general). Through that, he could realize that maybe the things Odin always told him were wrong. Maybe, for instance, Loki wasn’t 100% evil and Thor’s inferior. Maybe that Thor had himself made some mistakes at least as bad, and come to terms with that. He could’ve broken out of his toxic family dynamic.

That would’ve been a lot more compelling than erasing everything that made Thor, Thor.

And established that his arcs from the first two movies were realized on the level of him assuming control of his powers on Odin’s level—assuming ultimate worthiness

....

Why is aspiring to be like Odin in any way a good conclusion to Thor’s character arcs? And “worthiness” is entirely based on Odin’s professed values.

What would’ve been better is if Thor had finally broken free of Odin’s arbitrary worthiness paradigm. He’d been letting Odin define his worth for the previous movies. He realized that Odin was flawed for a bit in TDW but was back to submitting himself to Odin’s judgement at the end of the movie. It’s time for him to finish that journey. Yet in this movie it’s Odin (or rather Odin’s memory) that Thor turns to for strength.

And Thor honestly does not seem to change at all throughout the movie, character-wise. He starts off snarky and arrogant. He finishes snarky and arrogant with a throne and a missing eye (and no planet).

Introduce Valkyrie

Love the character, don’t love how they used her. Seriously, “and suddenly you’re overcome by the urge to do the right thing?” Five minutes after she did just that? Please.

Give Heimdall more than two minutes of screen time

Admittedly I like Heimdall better in this movie, so I’ll leave this alone.

Destroy Asgard

Why is this a good thing?

No, really, why is destroying Asgard better than, say, exploring its culture and history—and the people the movie repeatedly refers to—in a more nuanced light?

Reintroduce Hulk with the ability to speak and show emotion beyond smashing things

If I remember correctly, Hulk is a manifestation of Bruce’s anger and fear from his abusive childhood. (I don’t know if I’m phrasing this correctly at all. Someone who’s more into Bruce and Hulk could probably help. :/)

Ragnarok did not exactly explore that in any way.

And Hulk HAD emotions besides “smash”. Look at his reaction when Tony was falling out of the portal in Avengers. Hulk has real intelligence to him.

F colonialist lives!

This really isn’t my area of expertise at all...but I’m pretty sure the thing they were saying was bad was the imperialism, not colonialism. They’re not the same thing. And even that was confused by the whole venerating-Odin thing. I believe others have gone into this in more detail.

Korg is skinny!

I don’t even know what this is supposed to mean...?!

Contain good and funny jokes

This is entirely subjective. For instance, several people I know find butt jokes funny. I find them kind of immature and prefer dry humor. Neither of us is wrong in our preferences. It’s just not something you can argue.

Conversely, this movie also has Loki joke about his own suicide attempt. So.

Was directed by the MCU’s first director of color

I didn’t even know Waititi was a man of color when I first started disliking Ragnarok.

Controversial opinion here, but a movie that contradicts previous canon and has a plot as airtight as a colander is still a crappy franchise movie no matter who wrote it.

Fix Loki’s sad broody boy problem

Loki does not have a “sad broody boy” problem. He’s genuinely mentally ill, in no small part due to spending over a thousand years as the scapegoat in a narcissistic family. It’s also due to spending who-knows-how-long falling in space (see how that affected Tony) then another who-knows-how-long getting tortured by a purple space grape. That’s a lot more than going through an emo phase or something.

And this movie does not “fix” Loki’s mental illness. It waves it away like something that was never that bad to begin with, which is very much not the case.

It also erased Loki’s fierce intelligence from the previous movies, and his anger, and his strategy. It turned Loki from courageous to cowardly (except when the plot said so). It ignored Loki’s old reserve and trust issues.

Examples: You can’t tell me he couldn’t have thought up a better plan than “get help”. He could’ve disguised both him and Thor as more Sakaarian guards with his illusions. I just came up with that in five seconds. No way would that not occur to him at least as quickly.

Loki had the nerve to sass Laufey and the Other and Odin even when any one of them could’ve hurt him in previous movies. In Ragnarok he’s terrified of the Hulk to the point of trying to run.

In previous movies, Loki didn’t trust anyone enough to talk about any of the things that’d happened (aggravated since no one had even asked). In Ragnarok, as mentioned above, he joked about his own suicide—to a bunch of strangers.

Make fun of Thor: The Dark World

Again, why is this a good thing?

Ragnarok is one of the best Marvel movies for the “prisoners with jobs” joke alone

How Marvel Fucked Up Norse Mythology!

iI am no Norse Mythology expert. I’ve only read a handful of myths, so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. For all I know, I have it all wrong.

Pre-watching mess ups:

LOKI IS NOT ODIN’S SON - in the myths Loki is a sworn blood brother to Odin, so obviously seen as more of a brother than a son to the Allfather. Blood wise it’s more of a cousin or uncle connection. Like Greek mythology, this family tree is just as fucked up.

THOR IS NOT FRIGGA’S SON - He is the son of Odin and Jord. Odin doesn't even have a wife in mythology.

Thor (Movie #1) :

Mess ups:

4:30 - Odin is shown to have both of his eyes, and later it is show he lost it in the battle with the Frost Giants. Odin gave up his eye for wisdom to the Giant Mimir(?). This was very early on, that is why Odin is always shown with one eye.Technically (at least where I read it) Odin losing his eye is included in the myth of creation.

Frost Giants- Um... I may have this wrong, but there are no such things mentioned in the myths. There are giants, like just giants.

Triquetra-

(pic for reference) this symbol is used everywhere. It isn’t even part of the Norse religion, but the Celtic. While practiced in the same general area of northern Europe, they are not one and the same. This is the symbol of the triple goddess of Celtic religion.

War in relation to Thor- In the movie the war with the giants are over, but in the myths Thor is known as the Giant slayer. Like that don’t add up.

-Thor is a ginger in the myths... not important, but thought I’d add it.

7:00 - “A wise king never seeks out war.” Bullshit Odin. You are an Aesir, the god that thrive on war, and seek out battle for entertainment. 

7:20 - We get a lovely shot of Mjolnir as the two young princes run past. Loki is the one who sorta caused the creation of the hammer. It should not exist yet, as Loki isn’t old enough to have scalped Sif because he was drunk and bored. (Trust me, it’s a slipper slope.)

- Sif is meant to be blond, in the myth i mentioned about Mjolnir, it was a big deal she lost her hair, because it was the most beautiful, and as blond as sun light. She’s also not a warrior, much more a pretty face. Also Sif is Thor’s wife in the myths.

-WHERE ARE ODIN’S OTHER KIDS? There’s Baldur, Hodr, Bragi, and Ullr. None of them are there!

Warrior’s three, who are thee? - Like these character straight up don’t exist in mythology. I get why the exist for story stand point, but there were so many different options they could be. Like full on just change their names to be one of the many other gods that don’t exist in the movies, and it be better. MAKE THEM ODIN’S OTHER SONS. (I could go on a tangent about this...)

10:00 - The bifrost could only be used by the Aesir. Loki is incapable of using these bridges. Also in myths, walking to he other realms were an option.

Heimdall - In mythology he is just a watcher, not a gatekeeper. He barely gets involved with anything, and just observes. Like serious, he dose nothing to stop Ragnarok despite the fact he can see it coming.

Where are Thor’s Goats? Like serious, they’re famous. NAME ONE OF THE WARRIORS THREE AFTER THEM!

Sleipnir - This is Odin’s eight legged horse. Having it exist is very concerning. After all, it is Loki’s kid, which he gave birth to.

Odin’s Sickness: WHAT THE FUCK? These guys don;t get sick. They get the sniffles and the eat a golden apple of youth. HE NEED SOME MAGIC APPLE! WTF even is Odin sleep?

Laufey - Umm... Laufey is a female. Like she’s Loki’s mom, not dad. idk how this bothers me, like it dose on one hand, but on the other I get it...

Frost Giant Casket - to my knowledge, this dose not exist in mythology. While at the same time, neither do frost giants...

Mjolnir - I know they cover this in Ragnarok, but mjolnir is not the source of Thor’s powers. He dose have belts of strength, so some dose come from items. But he has the natural ability to control thunder, not the hammer. Also Thor can’t fly, thus the goats...

Things they got alright:

- personally I love this interpretation of the Worlds Tree.

-Thor’s personality is on point at the begging of the movie. Stupid and arrogant.

- Jottunheim  is pronounced correctly, with the J  being pronounced like a Y.

- Thor’s drinking ability. Full on cannon in the myth’s Thor is the biggest drinker in existent (Drank so much ocean the sea level lowered permanently.)

Thor the Dark World:

to be completely honest I have a love hate relationship with this one {stopped watching half way through because i knew the rest had nothing to do with Norse Mythology} I could go off, but I won’t

Mess ups:

THE PLOT!!!!!!

- 00:50 Dark Elves are just the term they use to refer to dwarfs. They aren’t something special.

- 01:00 THE ETHER DOSE NOT EXIST IN MYTHS! 

- 01:59 The realms are in locked places on the world tree, there would be no way for them to overlap. (not to mention they completely ignore the explanation they gave in the first movie)

- 02:15 The bifrost can’t appear anywhere, they are in a set location. (And wasn’t this so in the first movie....?)

- 3:35 Bor has Odin’s spear, which shouldn’t exist. It was made in the same event as mjolnir, which was caused by Loki(as I previously mentioned)

- Asgard was not a thing before Odin, as Odin sorta founded it.

- 34:58 The Aesir were not ones to take prisoners. If they won a war, they one by everyone being killed. There were no prisoners.(If you're wondering what they did with Loki in myth, look it up, it’s an interesting story.)

-51:20 Not everyone who died would become stars. They get this from a myth were Odin made a giant;s eyes stars to appease his daughter, but that was a one time instance.

Mess Ups:

-Loki leads Ragnarok, not many of the other people they imply do.

- No one knows when Ragnarok happens, so they can’t prepare for it, or stop it either.

- Odin  is killed by Fenrir, not just turning to dust]

- It is Hel and Hela

- Hel is Loki’s daughter, not Odin’s

- Hel is the goddess of the dead, not death ( think Hades in Greek Mythology)

- Hel’s face is half that of a corpse.

- Hel is a follower, not a leader. Loki is the one who leads the army of the dead during Ragnarok.

-Fenrir is also one of Loki’s kids. Hel’s brother to add on top (full brother, not half)

- Valkyries were those who gathered souls on the battle field. While they gave those souls to the gods (Freyja and Odin) they did not directly serve them in a  force of combat.

- I mentioned before, but they could walk to other realms, they didn’t need to use the bifrost to leave Asgard.

- Fenrir was killed by one of Odin’s other son (Vidar) to avenge his father.

- Hel and Surtur were on the same side in Ragnarok, so pitting them against each other, isn’t a thing that would happen.

Things they got Alright:

- Surtur is a large force included in Ragnorok. He is the one to burn everything once all the Gods have killed each other.

- The Agardians (Aesir) are indeed the gods of war, with a war torn past.

- Loki dose bring Surtur to the fight, before he just stays in his own Realm.

Finally going through my subscriptions on AO3 and clearing out the fics that haven’t gotten an update in too many years or have been orphaned since the last time I looked at them but what chapters were posted are worth reading as long as you don’t mind being left frustrated. Personal Notes: At 16 chapters it gives you enough progress to kinda feel satisfied. It dropped off at a kind of lull before ramping up into the next crisis action which also helps I think. Only mildly unsatisfying for not getting to the true “happy ending” but I’m not mad about it.

Summary: au: Derek and Stiles meet at a German camp.

Personal Notes: I have spent I don’t KNOW how many months on and off trying to find this fic again, only to discover I’ve had it the whole fucking time! Specifically, the way trufflemores describes how they interact - giving words to all of the silent conversations they have, how they translated Barry and Oliver’s body language to so perfectly into writing. Like, even after I stopped watching The Flash (and had long since stopped watching Green Arrow), I still watched the crossover episodes because watching Barry and Oliver (and later Kara) interact was always my favorite thing. Honestly, watching both teams together was always so much fun - the episodes were just fun, but I digress. I don’t honestly remember where this fic leaves off but it was fairly episodic so I don’t really know that it needs an end per say, reading it shouldn’t leave you too dissatisfied. 

The Propinquity Effect by SwiftEmera

Summary: Oliver Queen pretty much ignored his bisexuality, until he clapped eyes on Barry Allen.Unfortunately, Barry is a social pariah, and Oliver's mother is currently running for governor, so Oliver is pretty much trapped in the bisexual closet, unable to come out and associate himself with Barry for the fear of tarnishing his mother's campaign. However, when their teacher pairs the boys up to work on a Psychology project based around the subject of sexual attraction, Oliver's willpower to keep his distance is strongly tested.

Personal Notes: I’ve been re-reading most of these as a final send off but this one I’m just not in the mood for unresolved angst. It’s really well written, the characters are really well adapted for the AU, but just knowing it isn’t finished and probably wont ever be I don’t want to invest my energy into something that doesn’t have a conclusion - for better or worse and this is the kind of fic I *need* to have an end. 

What are some of your hc for Loki with kids? Like, is he comfortable around them? Do they gravitate towards him? How would he be if he had his own kids?

I feel like I’ve talked about this before but...going looking for that sounds like a lot of work, so. 

I think Loki has a weird relationship with kids. On some level he likes them, at least in limited amounts and when they’re older (I think he gets bored pretty quickly of young children - pre-verbal, babies, etc.). I feel like he gets along best with maybe 8-12 year olds, ish? Again, for limited periods of time - Loki’s not the most patience, so he can pretty easily get frustrated or annoyed or just like “that’s enough, leave me alone now please.” 

But he’s decent with them, and I think certain kids gravitate in his direction. Not all of them, maybe not even most - he’s a little standoffish, and a little awkward, and not exactly the most open or friendly person around - but I feel like...hmm. Especially precocious children, the kind who tend to get along better with adults than people their own age...I think Loki would get along with them.

He kind of refuses to tone down, which means he very much does not condescend, and expects kids to more or less keep up. I think that can be very enjoyable for a certain kind of kid, and Loki has a soft spot for smart children that means he’s a little warmer towards them.

He does also have magic, which is deeply appealing to a lot of children, probably, but Loki does not necessarily appreciate that. Sometimes, yes, but not always. Loki vacillates between wanting people to notice and appreciate his magic and “I’m not a performing bear.”

As for children of his own...I think that would be a very complicated animal from the get-go. I don’t think Loki’s inclined to have children at all, for a variety of reasons from his own family issues and not wanting to become either Odin or Laufey for someone else, to his self-loathing meaning not wanting to perpetuate his bloodline, to the fact that he’s not really mentally prepared to take responsibility for another human being’s entire life...I don’t think Loki feels like he can, or should, have children. Or wants to have them, really.

I do think that if Thor had children, Loki would be pretty great with them. Or, well - initially he’d be very skittish and hesitant to interact with them at all, and barely want to touch them, but if he settled down on that I think he’d have a lot of fun being the terrible influence uncle. 

Also the slightly overprotective murder uncle.

So something that always annoyed me about Ant-Man was that the movie’s really inconsistent about Scott’s criminal past. Like, on the one hand, everyone acts like he’s a career criminal who stole instead of getting an honest job because it was easy. But the only details we’re explicitly given about his past is that he had an honest job, discovered his bosses were stealing from clients, tried to blow the whistle and got fired, then stole from them to give back to the people they were overcharging like Robin Hood. Not even a hint of a suggestion he ever committed any crimes aside from this act of vigilante justice.

Going back to the first Thor movie though, it seems we have the same problem regarding Thor and Loki. Like, I’ve already talked about how it makes no sense to simultaneously write a redemption arc for Thor which relies on him doing something wrong and getting punished for it so he can learn a lesson but then have everyone act like he doesn’t deserve punishment and to have Thor be popular and loved by all pre-character development. Also, to give Loki a totally valid reason for wanting to keep Thor from the throne that Thor himself proves right, but then act like Thor, the arrogant meathead jerk who started a war because someone called him “Princess” is the good guy we should aspire to be like rather than festering in resentment like Loki. Like Loki’s problem is that he’s the kind of person who’d rather cut Thor down or try to obtain what he has through underhanded tactics than try to be as “good” as him so he can enjoy the same respect and popularity. Like, these are two mutually contradictory things. Either Thor’s a good guy who earned what he has by being likable and noble and Loki needs to look inward to see all the reasons people don’t like him and aspire to be more like Thor. Or Thor’s a shithead no one should aspire to be like and Loki has every right to call him out as such. It’s certainly never played like Loki could be right, but for the wrong reasons, like his criticisms of Thor are valid but still just an excuse to justify Loki’s own self-serving decisions, like Killmonger or Thanos. Anything bad he says about Thor or the rational he uses to justify continuing his banishment is brushed off like it’s complete bullshit, rather than self-serving bullshit by everyone else.

But like, the other big problem with Loki is that they simultaneously want everyone to be surprised by what Loki does in the movie while still being suspicious to motivate taking action against him, despite a lack of proof of any wrongdoing since they don’t want Loki’s schemes to be revealed until later in the movie. Like, they say “Loki’s always been one for mischief, but this?” to indicate that Loki’s only ever done harmless pranks before to make it seem like this a shocking betrayal. But then they use “Loki’s always been jealous of Thor” to completely dismiss his reasons for maintaining Thor’s banishment and Heimdall applauds their decision to go behind his back when as far as he knows, Loki is, in fact, honoring the wishes of the king he actually respects. Odin was even adamant to Frigga that Thor remain in exile as long as he couldn’t lift Mjolnir in a deleted scene. And as I’ve pointed out before, IT’S BEEN LESS THAN A DAY. Like, look me dead in the eye and tell me Odin wouldn’t be pissed if he woke up and found out the first thing Loki did after taking control of Asgard was rescind his last order and bring Thor home without learning his lesson and put him in charge like Heimdall and the warriors apparently think he should’ve. Like, even if he learned Loki set Thor up, that should just mean he’d want to punish Loki as well as Thor, not that he would find Thor any less culpable for his own actions. Loki may have provided the bait, but Thor didn’t have to take it.

They also say “Loki on the throne” as if anything we saw Loki do that they were witness to would make it evident to us that he’d be a bad king. Like, at that point in the story we did get confirmation he let the Frost Giants into Asgard and was plotting to help Laufey assassinate Odin and said a bunch of shitty things to Thor to demoralize him, I guess to keep him from earning Mjolnir back. But the warriors themselves said Loki had never done anything like that before and didn’t know about any of it at that point. Literally the only thing in the movie that suggests Loki had a reputation for being a shady bitch prior to the Jotenheim incident is the passage from the book Selvig shows Jane, which you clearly weren’t supposed to take into account since you have to freeze-frame to read it and when you do, you’ll see its the same paragraph repeated three times.

The entire story would’ve made so much more sense with just a few simple tweaks. Like, have Thor’s banishment go on for a while to justify everyone whining about wanting him back. Better yet, have everyone not want him back because they’re pissed at him and have them only go to Earth after Loki’s been in charge for a while and demonstrably been a poor leader who they need Thor to stop once they discover his evil scheme.

luka is the only child of a single mother, nadia oakes.  his parents weren’t married, and his father left them shortly after luka was born.  nadia came from a well-off family, and the two weren’t left wanting for anything.  however, when luka was nine, nadia was killed in a car accident, and, after luka’s father was unable to be found and none of the other relatives were willing to take luka in, he was placed in the foster system.  luka got bounced from house to house, family to family, until, at the age of fifteen, he wound up with a family in port vista.  he stayed with the family until he turned eighteen, at which point he’d already gotten attached to the town and decided to stay.  using the money he’d inherited from nadia, he bought a vacant building and turned it into the bookstore he now runs.

@writegowrite mentioned that she would be interested in reading Avengers fic and I pretty much shot my hand up and went, “Ooh!  Pick me!  Pick me!” at the barest reference to maybe wanting some recs of the Gen or Stucky or Thorki variety.  I am here for that, okay, this is my time! I chose the fics I thought would work best as a starter pack, for those who weren’t deep into the fandom, who were mostly familiar with canon only (rather than a lot of fandom trends), and who leaned towards more serious fics.  I think Thor/Loki especially will hit some of the same Obi-Wan/Anakin buttons, if you’re potentially into that pairing (if not, you’re going to want to pass this post by!) and I’m putting here, rather than my MCU blog because this is all stuff they’ll have seen before.  This is aimed at “So you want to get into this fandom but don’t know where to start, huh?  Let me try to help with that!” I will also include some fanart illustrations because a) I fuckin’ love fanart and b) there’s some gorgeous stuff and c) I think it helps to understand the appeal of “wait wtf where did Jotunn!Loki come from all of a sudden??” UNDER THE CUT:  Gen, Thor/Loki, Steve/Bucky - fic + art recs Mostly serious fic, a mix of serious/humor art, a good amount of NSFW fic/art I’ll write brief teaser recs but links will be provided for more full recs, when I can.

There will be a lot of recs here (and even more on this recs pages! but if you scroll through those pages (you’ll need to use Ctrl+F to find these specific ones if you want the full recs), keep in mind that they were a work in progress over a span of years, as well as aimed at people who regularly read in the fandom, and that I think these fics are best suited for drawing new readers in), but I chose ones that I felt could all be one of the first you pick up!  Still, I have a suggested starting place with three fics: START HERE: Bargaining by proantagonist, thor & loki + odin & loki + frigga & loki + other marvel characters, background refereneces to canon pairings, time travel, post-the dark world, some jotunn!loki, 110.4k      A genfic and it's really more about Loki and his issues with all his family but THIS FIC HOLY HELL, it made me cry at least three times and it's gorgeously written.  Post-TDW, Thor is dead and Loki absolutely loses his shit and all his issues with his family come tumbling out to slowly get fixed through time travel and worldbuilding and dealing with Jotunheim issues and magical deals with witches.  Novel-length and one of the best in the fandom. Bedding the Wolf by leonidaslion, thor/loki + implied background thor/sif, NSFW, dub-con edging on non-con, 13.4k      This is one of the earliest fics I read in the fandom and I've reread it a couple of times and it still hits me dead on EVERY TIME.  Post-first movie, this is ALL ABOUT Thor being smarter than Loki realizes and coming down on a vicious, bratty sub!Loki with a strong, iron hard dom hand.  It's fairly strongly dub-con and it's basically pwp, but it's one of my all time favorites. No Such Liberty by Xparrot, thor & loki + other asgardians + avengers + thanos, action fic, redemption fic, 147k     This one is primarily a Thor fic and was written pre-The Dark World and so takes a different path, but it's my favorite fic in that fandom.  It's got gorgeous worldbuilding, made me cry like three times over the Loki redemption stuff, and was just an incredible plot/action story when the Avengers all teamed up to fight Thanos. *After this point, you can pretty much throw a rock and whatever fic you hit, you can pick it up! SERIOUS FIC - GEN VERSION: God in the Machine: The Marachek Protocol by Mythtaken Identity (VR2LBast), natasha + avengers + loki, mild background pairings, egyptian mythology, action scenes, 99.6k      This fic is SO GOOD, it's primarily Natasha-centric, but it's got all the Avengers going up against Egyptian gods in an incredible plot fic.  It's novel length and it's just one of those that's incredibly SOLID. Ask Me No Questions by Alex51324, thor & loki + bruce & loki + tony + other avengers, depression, 55k      Loki is stripped of his magic and hit with a truth spell so he can't lie and has to stay with the Avengers and I remember it being a really satisfying Loki redemption fic.  He primarily interacts with Thor, Tony, and Bruce, all of which are really well done. Freefall + Landing by galaxysoup, thor & loki & avengers, 28k      It's been a long time since I read these, so I don't know how well they hold up, but they're more Loki + Avengers fic and I remember crying over them, because I had such strong feelings about the long, slow crawl towards redemption.  They're fairly famous in the fandom for good reason, imo! Rise From Ash by Mikkeneko, avengers + loki + other asgardians + thanos, some tony/loki, mildly nsfw for violence, some pyshical + psychological torture, angst, avengers!loki, 98k      An epic Loki + Avengers fic that's got a lot of horror elements and descent into madness that the fic does justice to.  It's a lot of plot and worldbuilding, a bit physical torture, a bit psychological torture, and very angsty.  it's an emotional wringer of a fic but so worth it. Road to Nowhere by Lise, thor & loki + frigga + other thor characters, thor 2 spoilers, action fic, quest fic, 27.2k      Genfic, but Thor and Loki on a roadtrip to save Frigga after TDW and it's lots of mythological worldbuilding and two brothers forced to rely on each other through magical trials, and maybe deal with their issues in an incredibly grudgingly way.  I'm biased because I beta'd for it, but it really is super good! SERIOUS FIC - THOR/LOKI VERSION: I actually have a “starter pack” recs list, but it’s like 30-40 fics long and that’s way too much to dump at once! dream state by bomb, thor/loki + thor/jane breakup + other marvel characters, NSFW, post-thor 2, prostitution, amnesia, 25.3k      The premise of this fic is kind of off the wall for something I take so seriously--a year after Loki's death, Thor sees someone who looks just like him on Earth and starts a relationship with him, but it is EXQUISITELY characterized, it's an incredible gem for being one of the best Thor characterizations in the fandom (IT SPOILED ME), for the weight of his character against the sharpness of Loki's, and it is beautifully written.  One of my all time faves. Make Me by Arkada, thor/loki, NSFW, dub-con, rough sex, bondage, bdsm, loki in chains, 4k      This is a darker fic, it's really rough sex with BDSM and consent issues.  Basically, Loki won't accept anything nice from Thor, so it has to be hard and rough and hurt before he'll take it.  So Thor gives him what he needs. Shorter but scorchingly hot. Postbellum by Shiny_n_new, thor/loki (pre-slash?) + odin & frigga + other thor characters, 22k      Written pre-TDW and is probably more gen than pairing, but the author ships it and so you can read undercurrents there.  Loki sits in his prison cell and seethes while Thor tries to make repairs--to Loki, to Jotunheim, to everyone.  It's really good Thor characterization in the background, but it's a fic that centers on Loki's fury and jealousy and trying to unknot it as best the author can. Wild Ambition Fortune's Ice Prefers by amberfox17, thor/loki & asgardians & frost giants, NSFW, jotunn!loki, arranged marriage, 199.7k      EVERYTHING by Amber is super worth reading, she writes amazing porn, but this is also her epic fic, where Loki was never taken to Asgard as a baby (this is a common theme in Thorki fandom, to get Jotunn!Loki, I'll dig up some fanart links to show you later) and when Thor has to make amends for starting trouble in Jotunheim, it kicks off a long, plotful, epic worldbuilding fic about the icy planet and these two learning to get along with each other and fall in love. Had we but world enough, and time by amberfox17, thor/loki, 14.6k      Hate and love are two sides of the same coin, and only require time for one to turn to the other. And what do gods have, if not time?Or, a story in three parts, of the past, present and future: how Lævatein was forged, taken and returned, how a relationship can be cracked, shattered and remade, and how Thor lost and found Loki time and time again. My Love Is Like To Ice, And I To Fire by amberfox17, thor/loki, NSFW, jotunn!loki, intersex!loki, 9k       Where Loki is stripped of his magic and forced into Jotunn form and it brings a lot of issues to a head.  It's only about 9k, but there's porn! Covenant by RobotSquid, thor/loki + odin + frigga + laufey, NSFW, divergent timeline, jotunn!loki (sort of), intersex!loki, secret relationship, 72.9k      I'm biased because this fic was written for me, but it's also gorgeous gorgeous worldbuilding and characterization.  When they're a little bit younger, they have to deal with the reveal of Loki's origins, which leads to them having to spend time there and it's primarily a fic dealing with Loki's issues of feeling unloved and hated, but has stellar Thor characterization in the background, as he's learning to be a future king, and so much incredible worldbuilding.  SO GOOD, I devoured it like you wouldn't believe. Shadow Plays by dreamlittleyo, thor/loki, NSFW, time loop, dub con, 24.4k      Another of the earliest fics I read in this fandom, so I'm not sure how well it'll hold up, because it might have been one that SET the mold rather than expanded it, but I remember really, really enjoying it.  Time loop fic where Thor's stuck and trying to figure his way out, trying to figure out how to save them all and deal with his anger towards Loki, and it's a really good use of the concept and satisfying porny resolution! Shatter by Aria, thor/loki + other thor characters, NSFW, 32k      Instead of Thor being banished to Earth, it's Loki... and then Thor comes along anyway and suddenly they have the breathing room and lack of tragedy to figure their shit out and eventually finally bang, it's a delight. Let slip the dogs of war by amberfox17, thor/loki, NSFW, dub con, rough sex, loki in chains, 5.3k      "In a world where mages must be kept chained and their magic bound: Loki is Thor’s dog of war, unleashed only in the most terrible of battles, and now Thor must deal with the aftermath of setting Loki’s seidr loose" -- aka, Thor's going to fuck the magical noise right out of feral!Loki's head and it's scorchingly hot. Caged by rainfall, thor/loki & asgard, NSFW, rough sex, pregnant!loki, 40k wip     This is one of those fics that may seem strange at the outset, but is fairly common in Thorki fandom--because Loki's a Frost Giant and we don't really know what that means, because comics!Loki is canon genderfluid (we have a lot of Lady Loki panels), because fandom Likes It, he's often written as intersex or just straight up able to get pregnant because Frost Giants Are Like That In Fandom.So, Loki's brought back post-first movie and he's furious and kept in a locked ivory tower and Thor goes to visit him and it's vicious but also they love each other and so eventually there's sex and it's a WIP that hasn't been updated in a long time but what's there is SO GOOD. Spoils of War by Fickle_Obsessions, thor/loki, NSFW, jotunn!loki, war prize!loki, dub con, rough sex, 9.8k      Fandom loves War Prize Jotunn!Loki with rough sex and, look, we all have our needs and this is one I really, really love a lot. Good Inside by glayish, thor/loki + thor/loki/mjolnir, NSFW, object insertion, mild bondage, dub-con, 7.4k      More rough sex that's kinda dub-con but in the way that it would be with them, also Mjolnir as a sex toy.  Scorchingly hot, too. feel my bones ignite by Lise, thor/loki, NSFW, rough sex, mild bdsm elements, 6.6k      More angry prison sex with some dom/sub elements and ridiculously hot sex. Covenant by Xero_Sky, thor/loki + other asgardians, NSFW, arranged marriage, post-avengers, 32.7k wip      "After Loki is brought back to Asgard for justice, he's somewhat appalled to find that his family still cares for him and worries about his well-being. Even worse, they have a cunning plan to keep him safe from Thanos and sort out the havoc he's been wreaking everywhere.  It works. And for one brief shining moment, Loki Is Happy. Naturally, it all goes downhill from there."  Arranged marriage fic that isn't at all fluffy or easy, it's difficult and unhappy and this is a WIP, but there's some good stuff already here that's worth reading for it, imo. Absolution by ladylapislazuli, thor/loki, arranged marriage, post-avengers, 54.2k      Another "Loki is forced to marry Thor to try to keep him contained and in Asgard" that should be silly and ridiculous but instead is heartwrenching and so, so good about digging into their issues and all the anger and hurt there.  It's a middle of the road kind of piece, not fluffy, but not tragic, and I respect it all the more for that.         STEVE/BUCKY: Out of the Dead Land by emilyenrose, steve/bucky, 62.7k      Oh, if you only read one Steve/Bucky fic, MAKE IT THIS ONE.  Post-TWS fic (not CW-compliant), Bucky tries to be Bucky again and it's a very difficult road and it was angsty and hard and so worth it and SO GOOD. The man on the bridge by boopboop, steve/bucky + tony + background pairings + avengers + other marvel characters, the winter soldier spoilers, 107.5k      This can be pretty controversial and I admit that I faded from Stucky fandom before it was finished, but I liked what was there.  Written in the aftermath of The Winter Soldier (so not CW-compliant) it's very angsty and a novel-length look at Steve/Bucky trying to come back to each other. This You Protect by Owlet, steve/bucky & avegers & ocs, 64.3k      While I wandered off for the follow-ups, they didn't feel the same as the first fic, this one is perfect exactly as it is--Bucky doesn't fully remember who he is, but his instincts to protect Steve cannot be overriden.  It's half parody, half serious, where Bucky Makes Friends With His Old People Neighbors and despairs every time Steve does something stupid and avoids him like the plague because he can't deal with his feelings, but still watches from afar.  It's GREAT. there's trees in the desert since you moved out by irnan, steve/bucky/natasha, 37k      I haven't read this one myself, but I've always liked irnan's fics and this one looks fantastic, a road trip where Steve/Bucky/Natasha work out their feelings.  (Bucky/Natasha is canon in the comics at many points, so a lot of people wanted it in the MCU, to go along with Steve/Bucky and Steve/Natasha.) sam deserves better than these assholes by lazulisong, steve/bucky + sam + natasha + other marvel characters, 10.7k      A series of fics where Sam Wilson really does deserve better than these two assholes.  I love lazulisong's writing, she really has a gift for comedic timing! Memory by emilyenrose, steve/bucky, 25.2k      Bucky working to try to remember who he is, it doesn't really go so well. your favorite ghost by augustbird, steve/bucky, 21k      I LOVE augustbird's writing, so another angsty post-TWS fic that's about the entire scope of Steve and Bucky's lives, the hard journey to bring Bucky home, is A+ for me. All The Leaves Are Brown (And the sky is gray) by AvocadoLove, bucky & tony + background steve/bucky, 17.4k      I don't remember there being much actual Stucky in this fic (though, the feelings are there) but Bucky's mission to kill Howard and Maria goes a little differently and instead he winds up with kidlet Tony on the run and it's SO GOOD.  Angsty plus cute kidlets, I DEVOURED IT.  (Everything I've ever read by AvocadoLove has been amazing, though.) HUMOR FIC: Majority Rule by Xparrot, thor & loki & avengers, humor, 2.4k     Also by Xparrot (I love everything by her!) it's short and hilarious and a great bit of funny cultural difference stuff with Thor and Loki and the Avengers. One of the things I frequently talked about on Tumblr is how Asgard had the greatest decorative taste ever–everything is incredibly gold and tacky and they have water features everywhere. I LOVE IT. Also, Thor is 100% a troll that people never realize he’s doing it. These things combine into one of the most perfect fics I have ever read. FANART: While the fandom is quieter today, the Thor fandom has a tremendous back archive of art, so much of it absolutely stunning and creative and wonderful!
