Rewatching the credits to ‘Romancing The Star’ and seeing these two goof around brings me immense joy. 😁
I have no idea the context for these scenes, but I love them regardless. :)

The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star
Hello, hello! It is time to talk about the final The Princess Switch movie and then we can leave behind this cinematic universe filled with fake monarchies and Christmas cheer. So, let’s get talking! The Plot (according to Rotten Tomatoes): When a priceless Christmas relic is stolen, royal look-alikes Margaret and Stacy turn to audacious doppelgänger Fiona — and her dashing ex — for help. The…

'Production spend in the Scottish high-end TV (HETV) and film industries hit £617.4 million in 2021, an increase of 55% compared to 2019’s £398.6 million, according to statistics released today by Screen Scotland...
Screen Scotland said over 80% of the net increase in production spending between 2019 and 2021 (£218.8m) was due to “the tremendous growth” in inward film and HETV production. Overall, inward film investment and HETV production spend increased by 110%, from £165.3 million in 2019 to £347.4 million in 2021...
...productions that were shot in studios and on location in Scotland in 2021 included Disney+ Star Wars series Andor, DC’s The Flash, Netflix’s Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star, The Lost King starring Sally Hawkins and Steve Coogan, and Peaky Blinders, which shot on location in Aberdeenshire...'

Tumblr media
I have a theory that this movie only exists so that Vanessa Hudgens could make out with 4 different guys in one movie. Because the first one in the series was actually one of the first movies I reviewed and I really like it, but the sequel was bad and I don't think anyone was asking for a third in the trilogy, but here we are.
Stacy (Vanessa Hudgens) and her best friend Queen Margaret (Vanessa Hudgens) are putting together a charity concert for Christmas. The Vatican has lent them the Star of Peace for the top of the Christmas tree, but oh no! Someone has stolen the star! The police have no leads, so Margaret decides to pull her cousin Fiona Pembroke (Vanessa Hudgens) out of community service to help them. Which Fiona on her own is annoying enough, but her squad takes it too far for me. We've gone passed stupid funny and landed on stupid annoying. Anyway, Fiona calls up her old friend Peter Maxwell (Remy Hii) to help them find a lead. Peter is successful; unfortunately, the man who had it stolen is hotel tycoon Hunter Cunard (Will Kemp) who likes to acquire things that are not for sale. The team comes up with a plan that goes from bad to worse as it progresses. At one point in the movie, both Stacy and Margaret are dressed as Fiona with Fiona, which confuses Prince Edward (Sam Palladio) and Prince Kevin (Nick Sagar).
As far as redemption arcs go, Fiona's isn't terrible. But her whole character in the second movie was so over the top and ridiculous that it didn't feel necessary until we got the tragic backstory in this movie. It's also unclear if Margaret knows the tragic backstory or if she's just overly forgiving. Anyway, this movie was okay at best but still felt unnecessary. Why are so many men in love with Fiona? She's not likable. I guess the only thing this movie might accomplish is making Fiona a more forgivable character in the second movie if one were to rewatch it. But I'm still not in a hurry to do that either. Peter is the only interesting character we get in this movie, but he's Fiona's manic pixie dream girl. Also the subtitle is weird to me. Like, I don't understand it so I don't like it.
Overall, I give it 1.5 stars. Feels harsh, but I'm mad this movie exists at all.

Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 3
Vidumavi vs A fox passing through the woods on business of his own
Vidumavi:
A princess of Rhovanion who married Valacar of Gondor. The ascension to the throne of her son Eldacar, who was hence not fully Númenorean, led to the civil war known as the Kin-strife.
married the (future) king of gondor in her own hometown. one of the most interesting romances in the wider legendarium imo
A fox passing through the woods on business of his own:
A fox who found Frodo, Sam and Pippin asleep under a tree and was puzzled by this.
Yeah sure why NOT switch PoV to a (arguably) non-sentient creature for like a paragraph with no bearing on the actual plot besides the comment that it never realized that the plot was happening??
It shows up for one page for no reason.  It's great.
Listen, that fox is absolutely a borbo. Confused? Funny? Has enough to be memorable but little enough to write a shitload of fanfiction about? Someone I have actually written about? Twice? (they aren't on ao3 though) clear boorbo
Look, people have observed before, correctly, that one of the things that sets The Lord of the Rings apart is that Tolkien will tell us things about the well-being of minor characters, like that the hobbits’ ponies that they lost in Bree were okay and went to live with Tom Bombadil. Tolkien is the kind of writer who will switch the POV to a fox who happens to pass by the hobbits on the first night of their journey to Rivendell, because the story isn’t just about the main characters, nor is it just about the endurance of realms like Rohan and Gondor. It’s about every living thing in Middle-earth, and for Frodo it’s especially about the Shire, the home of simplicity and good food and community and gardens and foxes. That’s what he takes up the Ring to save, and the fact that he takes it up with that motivation, not personal greatness or heroism, is what enables him to get as far as Mount Doom. Gandalf lays this idea out to Denethor when Denethor claims the fate of Gondor as a goal above all else: “For my part, I shall not wholly fail of my task, though Gondor should perish, if anything passes through this night that can still grow fair or bear fruit and flower again in days to come.” The Quest of the Ring is not simply about Men and Elves and Hobbits; it is about ponies, and the trees of Fangorn, and tiny sun-star flowers in the grass, and yes, a fox on business of his own who never finds out anything more about the three hobbits he once saw sleeping under a tree, but lives and thrives because of what they did.

Even though Christmas is over, I’d still like to try and post stuff on here, just to keep the fandom alive.
Even if it’s only me, it’ll be nice getting all my thoughts out of the way, as well as head-cannons/theories. Maybe even a few fan-fics as well.
I just hope there are people out there who love these movies as much as I do, because let’s be honest, they deserve more love. 😊

Book Review - Thorn (Dauntless Path #1) (🇲🇦 Morocco)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(image source: Piotr Arnoldes @ pexels)
YA World Challenge Review for: 🇲🇦 Morocco (*inspired)
Thorn
Author: Intisar Khanani
This is mainly a fantasy world, so I am stretching a bit by categorizing this book into a real-world country. According to the author, the prince’s land is “lightly based on North African (and specifically Moroccan) culture”, if you “squint enough”. So let’s squint a little.
There are 3 books and a few short stories in this world - Thorn is the first and stars Alyrra (a European-ish girl betrothed to a foreign prince), and after that is a duology told from the point of view of a Middle Eastern-ish girl.
Review
This review is for Thorn. The story is meant to be based on the fairy tale of the Goose Girl, which I actually know nothing about (and I didn’t read it first, in case of spoilers). We start with Alyrra, a princess of a small backwoods European-ish country who is despised and abused by her mother and brother for being “stupid” and “honest”. (We learn her infamous “honesty” came from a specific incident of snitching on a court lady to save a servant from being blamed.)
At first the storyline seemed pretty standard - kind, misunderstood princess is betrothed and sent to unknown, scary land with undercurrents of intrigue and magic. And then we get....
BODY SWITCHING.
And Alyrra goes “Yes! I am free! I can live my own life now!” and I love this reaction. She’s just gonna run off with this other girl’s body and live the life she’s always dreamed of. And this is what she must struggle with for much of the book - for as much as she would like to quietly start a new life, she can’t be left alone.
So though there is little action through the book, there is quiet character development mixed with intrigue and evil sorceresses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I liked how her relationship with the prince never jumped right into romance or even attraction. I thought the prince was a well-developed character, being neither the snarky asshole or the ‘nicer than those other nobles’ tropes, but somewhere in between.
I appreciate that Khanani weaves the PTSD of Alyrra’s brother’s abuse into her reactions and personality, making it feel real, as well as the quiet inclusion of prayer-as-meditation that was always very personal and not religious.
Tumblr media
Recommended for: Those looking for a quiet fantasy with an intriguing premise and themes of justice.

Book Instagram Ask, because I know I'm the only follower who knows how BADLY you wanna beg for people to send you these PATHETIC little ask games. Grovel at my feet, peasant...
Tumblr media
...anyway: 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, 16, 20, 23, 24, 28, 30
Thank you for indulging me TTwTT
1. The last book you read
This is how you lose the time war - Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mohtar and it was lovely in every way in a way I didn't expect at all
4. A book you want to be a movie
Matched - Ally Condie "want" is a strong word, but I do remember thinking that it Would make for a pretty good movie as I was reading it way back when, which is a first for me
5. A book with a trope that you love
The Demon King - Cinda Williams Chima I'll keep it real with you, I haven't read this one since the series finished in 2012 so I don't actually remember loads of it. But I remember loving it when I did read it, and it does have the Princess - Street Kid pairing which is such a fun trope when you do it right
6. A book that you have reread, or wanted to
The Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis I don't reread books in the way my younger self used to do, but these were on a steady cycle as I grew up
9. Your favourite book of all time
The older I get the harder it is to pick favourite anythings, let's be real. But reading The Star-Touched Queen - Roshani Chokshi got me out of a reading slump as easy as flipping a switch and altered my brain chemistry for weeks, so it is certainly up there. Who doesn't love an epic romance with Death with the most gorgeous language ever?
12. A fantasy book you love
The Dark Days Club - Alison Goodman is just so juicy with the regency setting and demon slaying in high society and I read the whole series in a manic week lol
16. A book that you want to read soon
I found a gorgeously old edition of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame - Victor Hugo at a second hand store years ago but have yet to read it, but that still doesn't mean it'll be the next one I pick up once I finish my current book, just that it is in the ever-growing piles meant to be read ^^;
20. A book that you think about often
Soulless - Gail Carriger ( @gailcarriger on here, hi!) managed to nestle it's way into my dark little soul from the get-go with all the improper sassing a spinster in steampunk Victorian London can get away with before the werewolf lord just Has to marry her. And don't forget about all the hats! 10/10 God I Wish That Were Me.jpg
23. A book that you are afraid to read
Afraid how? I have had Emma - Jane Austen staring at me from the shelf for years and I have been slow at actually picking it off of it to read because what if it disappoints me? Does that count?
24. A book with a perfect TV-adaptation
Those exist? I can only remember True Blood and Game of Thrones out of books I've read (no, I still haven't watched or read Good Omens, sue me), and those are both .. not very true to their origins, you know... Can I say mangas? I'm gonna say mangas!
Old-Fashioned Cupcake - Sagan Sagan had a spot-on adaptation. I would know because I started reading it within a day after I finished the show, and they are both lovely
28. The book that you wish you wrote
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern is the perfect embodiment of how I would have wanted my writing to read, and the kind of story I would have liked to tell, and I will be forever grateful that Someone got to write it so I could read it <3
30. A book you always recommend
The Deed of Paksenarrion - Elizabeth Moon I don't know about "always", but I do find myself recommending it quite often so why not give it another mention here? This is one of the ones that I probably should reread soon though.
This took so much time and thinking lmao!
But I had a lot of fun thinking back on books I've loved, so thank you again for indulging me <3

The Princess Switch (2018, Mike Rohl)
18/12/2023
The Princess Switch is a 2018 Christmas-themed romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl, inspired by a screenplay by Robin Bernheim and Megan Metzger. The main actors of the film are Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio.
The film was released on Netflix 16, 2018 exclusively on Netflix.
Having gone to the back of the pastry competition studios to try to remove stains from her apron, Stacy clashes with Lady Margaret of the kingdom of Montenaro, Duchess and future wife of Prince Edward of Belgravia.
The Duchess and Stacy are perfectly identical, probably thanks to a distant family bond that binds them and, at the request of the future princess, tired of the rigid etiquette that she is forced to follow and completely unaware of what it would be like to live a normal life, the two girls exchange identities for a couple of days, and then return to their respective lives.
In June 2018, it was announced that Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio would star in the Netflix film The Princess Switch.
Most of the film was shot in Romania.
The sequel The Princess Switch: Switched Again was released in 2020 and in 2021 The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star.
