I've had this idea for the past three years of utilizing a cool location in my world: The Great Galactic Garbage Patch. A 1.8 lightyear in diameter nebula of scraps, derelicts, and junk accumulated over thousands of years.

It's basically an intergalactic dumpster that salvagers and others like to pick from.

I got the idea from our own problematic spot; the Pacific garbage patch that we've been trying to clean up for ages.

I figured our galaxy should have one of these. It only makes sense with the number of space-fairing species that have traveled its arms for thousands of years. They have to put their trash somewhere, so everyone collectively picked a spot between star systems. It's not the only scrap yard, it's just the oldest and the largest.

I've got a short story planned out where the crew of the Horizon have to take shelter in the Patch. Since Yune is a salvager by trade, he and Selka also take the opportunity to train the kids in salvaging techniques - since they're pretty much a family of salvagers now - and pick up a few things.

The fascinating thing about this particular patch note is that it implies the game engine is fully rendering your character's penis at all times, not just when you take your pants off.
