Dear Gus & Magnus,
I had a debilitating headache this morning and stayed in bed pretty much all morning, so you two hunted eggs with Yiayia and Mom. We went to the Compound to have lunch and hunt more eggs, though Magnus got just as much out of hunting dandelions and flowers as he did the eggs.
My favorite time of the day came when I took you two and Sophie Kate on the Mule out into the pasture. Gus wanted to get out and explore, to which Sophie said, "Gus, you can't go out there!" When I told her he'd be fine and that she could explore too, she looked at me like I was an insane person. But she got out and all of you explored the creek for a bit. It reminded me of my own childhood. I have vivid and wonderful memories spent damming up streams and creeks with Will and John.

My mother was the gentlest person I’d ever met. Gentle in her manner, her voice, her touch. I imagined that Clea Sheridan Yanakakis had never mustered up even an iota of bad feeling toward anyone. However, her gentle nature didn’t mean she wasn’t intense. One only had to watch her play cello for a short while to understand her depth. You don’t have to be loud or forceful to take up a lot of space in the world.

The reason the English language's rules for constructing compound words don't seem to make sense to speakers of more reasonable languages is because, in this respect, English obeys Roger Rabbit logic: in, for example, German, you can construct extemporaneous compound words whenever you like, but in English, you can only do so when it's funny.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
We had lunch at Nene's house with the Nicks today. The Nicks left, but we spent the afternoon on the Compound. Because of the time-change last night, we didn't realize how late it was when we went home, so we ended up calling in a cheeseburger order from Buffalo Grill for dinner.
I despise the time-change. I don't care what time it is (regarding daylight), but I wish we could all agree to stop shifting the time. It throws everything off, no matter if we're moving backward or forward.
