So I watched ESB the other day and I keep thinking about the line "that boy is our last hope" especially in relation to Leia's relationship with Obi-Wan.
Because Obi-Wan has met her. He knows her. He knows how powerful she is and I highly doubt that when he said that what he meant was "Luke is the only Force-sensitive out there strong enough to defeat Darth Vader" because it's clearly not true.
But, once again, Obi-Wan knows Leia. Obi-Wan, the man who could never bring himself to end his former apprentice. He knows about her spirit and her fire and her anger. He knows that out of her and her brother, she would be the one who would end the Sith lord with no hesitation and no regrets. Yoda doesn't know her like that.
So maybe when Obi-Wan says Luke is their last hope, what Yoda (and much of the audience) hears is "That boy is our last hope for the galaxy," but what Obi-Wan is really saying is "That boy is our last hope for Anakin."

So I took a really long time to get thru the arr hildibrand quests. And it isn't because I hated them, I really did enjoy them and the characters, I was just taking my time in between doing msq and everything else. It took me months to finish the arr hildibrand questline. And partway through the quests, I decided that Zeynha should be besties with Ellie because they would be really fun as friends

The Lost Titans in Canon: Jason and Rose
I already talked about Jason and Eddie's canon friendship, so next up, I want to talk about Jason and Rose. They're an interesting duo, actually, because even though they have appeared in far more comics together than Jason and Eddie, a lot of them take place in Elseworlds, or timelines that are in questionable continuity these days. It's only in the past couple of years that this relationship has really picked up the pace - and to a certain extent, only in the past couple of days.
Jason and Rose first interacted in Red Hood and the Outlaws, the New 52 volume. Rose turns up hunting the Outlaws, and it's revealed that she and Jason have a sexual past. Because it's RHATO, she's of course written appallingly out of character:
Tumblr media
Awful.
The very next issue, the book is canceled. Jason and Rose walk off together, but when we next see Jason in Red Hood/Arsenal like four seconds later, Rose is nowhere in sight.
Anyway, this history and interaction are...let's say in dubious continuity. Rose's appearance here barely jives with anything else she did in the DCU (most of which was also written incoherently by Lobdell), and everything about New 52 Rose was instantly retconned out of existence by Rebirth. Then again, you could say the same thing about Jason and Roy.
Ever since, DC has treated Jason and Rose like they have romantic history of some kind, or at least there are references to sexual tension between them, but no one is ever specific about exactly what their history is.
Next up is DCeased: The Unkillables, a miniseries set in the DCeased universe. Jason and Rose actually wind up getting married in this universe, but obviously it's not actually in continuity because it's an AU. Still, they're pretty cute:
Tumblr media
(This ends tragically, of course, because DCeased.)
Speaking of AUs, we also saw these two together in Future State, a possible dystopian future. They are definitely sleeping together, but while Rose spends most of her time making double entendres, Jason is distant and brooding, until she gets pissed off:
Tumblr media
Still, she shows up later to rescue him, and they actually manage to end that AU together and alive (for now):
Tumblr media
Okay, so much for AUs and potentially retconned-away interactions. What about the in continuity stuff?
Well, this single panel happened during Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Last Stories of the DC Universe, which was sort of the transitional event between the end of Rebirth and completely rolling back the remnants of the New 52:
Tumblr media
Is it still in continuity? Do any of the characters remember it? I HAVE NO IDEA.
Next is Robin, when Rose tells Jason that Damian has entered the assassin tournament on Lazarus Island, and the former Robins show up to try to stop him. Rose and Jason don't interact directly, but we do get this:
Tumblr media
Great question, Damian! NO ONE KNOWS.
Rose and Jason FINALLY interact ONE HUNDRED PERCENT IN CURRENT CONTINUITY FOR SURE in The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing, when she rescues him from a police van and they both look ridiculously hot about it:
Tumblr media
I'm assuming she's calling him "lover boy" because they've hooked up, but if you've read any of my work you know I'm a Jason Todd Secret Virgin truther, so I'm choosing to read it ambiguously. I'm also choosing to read her last line as her having the hots for Steph. (Rose, like me, prefers Naughty Robins only.) Anyway, she's been roped into the plot of this book, but it's still ongoing so who knows how it'll resolve. (Spoiler: not with Jason successfully killing the Joker!)
That was going to be my whole list when I started this post, but then Batman/Catwoman: Gotham War: Red Hood #2 came out, and who should show up but Rose!
Tumblr media
We've seen this dynamic from them before: Rose cracks sex jokes, Jason is stoic and terse and Focused On The Mission. I'm of two minds about this - it's fun to read, and Rose does tend to make bawdy jokes (she did grow up in a brothel, after all), whereas Jason ranges from stoic to equally sassy depending on who's writing him, so I wouldn't necessarily say it's out of character for either of them. It's more that Rose is always depicted as the one pursuing Jason, whereas he has Important Manly Things to think about instead. (See also: Bruce and Selina, Bruce and Talia, Bruce and any woman, any man in comics and any woman.) Just because it's not technically OOC doesn't mean it doesn't overlap into a sexist trope.
(I kind of love the idea that she is literally only doing it because she knows it embarrasses him and he is Focusing On The Mission to hide his blush and they both know they aren't going to fuck, but that's a personal headcanon and not really the Occam's Razor interpretation of these scenes, which are definitely meant to imply that they are banging.)
What I did find interesting about this issue is that it's the first one in continuity to show genuine concern and affection between the characters:
Tumblr media
Do I think Rose would ever stand with her toes together like that past the age of 12? No. But this is still very touching.
Anyway, JayRose is one of those pairings that I don't ship but am perfectly fine seeing unfold in canon. I totally get why DC would pair them, I totally get what they would see in each other, I think it will all end in disaster but that can be fun to watch. It'll be interesting to see if DC commits to actually telling an in-continuity story with these two, or if they will forever be restricted to her showing up and making a dick joke that Jason will ignore because of how he's sad inside. Time will tell!

MY STANCES ON CONTROVERSIAL CHARACTERS ARE AS FOLLOWS
Anakin Skywalker: This one's fairly obvious, but I'm one of the people who doesn't see Anakin as redeemed by the end of ROTJ just because he saved one person he personally gives a damn about. My definition of redemption is about atoning and making amends, and Anakin has no possible way of actually DOING THAT for most of the things he's done, so there's no real way of acquiring redemption. He can be a better person, he can be forgiven by individual people for things he's done to them, he can keep choosing to be selfless instead of selfish, but none of that necessarily means he has to be considered redeemed. If you think he's redeemed at the end of ROTJ and that's what brings you joy in your interpretation of the story, great, I honestly don't care. But if you choose to come into my notes and get mad at me because I don't think the space fascist is redeemed just because he decides to save his own son, you will now be blocked on sight, I'm done having that conversation with people.
The Jedi As A Whole: Wonderful people with a beautiful culture that never did a single thing to deserve what was done to them. They were not corrupt, they didn't need to reform their culture in a single way. There was nothing more they could've done for Anakin or the Republic that would've stopped what happened. They don't steal children, they adopt them from parents who choose to let their children lead a better life, and become part of the large extended Jedi family. They are intergalactic therapists whose literal way of life IS therapy for those who choose to follow it. They were outplayed, but they did everything they could've possibly done. Sometimes, it is possible to commit no mistakes, and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life. (Side note here: This is an incredibly pro Jedi blog, if you come on my blog and criticize the Jedi in any way, you will be immediately blocked, I am so done with this fandom's anti-Jedi sentiments, consider this your warning.)
Padme Amidala: Deserved better from the Prequels, has such potential and promise and I want so dearly to save her from her toxic ass marriage to a fascist MAGA manchild, but damn am I glad Luke and Leia didn't have to grow up with her as a mother some days.
Bo-Katan Kryze: I wish I could like her, but the writers are making it SO HARD. They don't seem to ever remember that she gleefully set an entire village on fire because they dared ask for their enslaved people back and to not be occupied anymore, but I do.
Satine Kryze: I wish I could like her, but I don't have enough nostalgia for her to overlook how bad the writing is for her. She treats Obi-Wan like garbage, brings out the worst in him, acts very arrogantly about just about everything and never has to take responsibility for her own mistakes so she gets to die a martyr.
Aleksander Kallus: Literally has to have his ENTIRE BACKSTORY retconned so he can be "redeemed" within the span of one episode. Also manages to "All Lives Matter" Zeb into thinking that judging Imperials for their fascist choices is the same as judging an ENTIRE SPECIES on the actions of one individual who was acting in self-defense anyway. Stop saying he's got the best redemption arc in Star Wars, it sucks fucking ass and he's not a fucking Fulcrum, he just stole the title from Ahsoka and didn't earn it and he was a shit spy anyway.
Crosshair: Bigoted dickhead who treats everyone like complete crap and then goes full fascist as a punishment for the world when no one wants to risk their lives to save him. Let him die already, he's not worth saving.
Bode Akuna: Basically just Anakin lite and we all know how I feel about Anakin. No sob story justifies anything he's done and I didn't find him all that interesting or sympathetic, personally.
Rafa and Trace Martez: I actually loved them, I thought they had an interesting relationship with each other and with Ahsoka, I appreciated how different they felt and the arc Ahsoka goes on with them. I don't mind that they used them to showcase the rising anti-Jedi sentiment among the citizens of Coruscant, I just wish their opinions hadn't been presented as though they were right. I love that we see they've joined a rebellion of sorts post-Order 66 and I wish we'd gotten to see more of Trace, Rafa, and Rex working together rather than the absolute trashfire that we're actually getting on TBB.
Ahsoka Tano: Relationship status: It's complicated. I DO like her, generally, but I REALLY dislike the way she's constantly written in later stuff to be better than everyone else and to have basically zero flaws so that she can end up like a messiah or a goddess of light reborn or something. It's boring, it's annoying, and it just isn't any good. I particularly don't care for how she consistently gets utilized to bash the Jedi Order and absolve Anakin for all of his sins. Ahsoka deserves better, but I'm also immensely frustrated with where her story's taken her and the way fandom tends to treat her. We also just straight-up need more main female Jedi characters and as long as Ahsoka's around it feels like it'll never happen.
Sabine Wren: I love the Rebels version of her, but the Ahsoka show version sucks. I have decided it simply does not exist for Sabine. That isn't the real Sabine and it never will be. That's not Sabine's story, the real Sabine would never try to be a Jedi because quite simply she doesn't NEED to be. And the real Sabine would NEVER disrespect Ezra's sacrifice by undoing it and then leaving him to deal with the fallout. It's stupid, it's ugly, and Sabine deserved better.
Hera Syndulla: Much like Sabine, I love the Rebels version of her, but the Ahsoka version sucks. The Ahsoka version deserves to be kicked out of the army or whatever, she's a terrible mother and an even worse General and quite honestly not that great of a friend. The real Hera would NEVER act like orders didn't matter just because she doesn't like them or refuse to see the logic in letting go of Ezra after he's been missing for 10 years so that those resources can go to people who they can confirm are still alive.
Shin Hati: She's so so so boring. She has the personality of cardboard, it basically consists of "crazy eyes" and that's about it. She is pretty literally just Darth Maul but a girl. Like every single part of her character so far is indistinguishable from Maul aside from the cosmetic stuff. I hope she dies in season 2 and never gets a redemption arc. I'd say Sabine deserves better, but honestly Ahsoka!Sabine deserves her.
Grey Jedi: Stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen. Let Grey Jedi stay in fanon where it belongs, none of your faves are Grey Jedi in canon and they never will be.

Bro, Tyzula shippers are delusional and unhinged. How does the new comic "prove" their ship in any way? Ty Lee literally attacks Azula like she does in every other comic. Why are they the new Zutarians?
It's called "I'm insecure and need to overcompensate." They both KNOW their ships are not canon, but they think fanon means inferior, so they make shit up and hide behind accusations of homophobia/sexism when people point out "Hey, no disrespect but what you're describind just flat out didn't happen." Once again, I say all this as a Tyzula fan myself.
And seriously, HOW does "Azula In The Spirit Temple" prove Tyzula? They did not have a single positive interaction, and despite this story being way more fair and accurate to Azula's actual flaws (like her refusing to accept she was wrong for threatening Ty Lee into leaving the circus) it still seems to insist on the retcon of "Azula never had a single genuine friendshi, ever, Mai and Ty Lee were just coerced 24/7" instead of having Azula accidentally destroy her bond with them, so if anything, this just buried their ship six feet under since it says "their connection never existed in the first place."
Not to mention, we see a glimpse of Azula's ideal world, where she's loved and appreciated (and killed the Avatar because she's still Azula) - and not only is Ty Lee not in it, her and Mai are the "bad presences" that ruin her dream. Dream that included a BOY awkwardly calling Azula pretty.
Tyzula fans really should chill and enjoy the comic for what it was - God knows I was apprehensive about it, but it turned out pretty great.
Hell, even as a fan of two non-canon pairings, I still got some stuff I can take out of context for shits and giggles - Azula all bitter saying "Mai was stupid and left for a stupid boy that didn't like her anyway" is just PERFECT for Maizula and Zucest... and I don't have to pretend it was more than just the writters going "Azula can't accept that she screwed up and Mai was right to choose Zuko over their toxic friendship" because I don't need canon to validate my OTPs.

EMILIE VS AMELIE DEBATE
I know this is a hot topic at the moment, leaning heavily in Amelie’s favor, but I'm still convinced it's Emilie, and that a lot of people are going to have a rude awakening once Season 6 hits.
So, just to clarify.
I know the leaks aren't "canon" and that they should be disregarded, but in all fairness, how? It's impossible to pretend we didn't see something when we obviously did, and these leaks were EVERYWHERE. Most of us didn't seek them out; we stumbled across them when we didn't want to.
But even if you disregard the leaks, there are enough context clues to support the Emilie argument anyway. So we'll get back to that.
First of all, WHY would Gabriel be okay leaving Adrien an orphan? In Emilie's video, she spoke as if Gabriel would be there to raise him in her place . . . but after getting cataclysmed, he knew that was no longer an option.
Tumblr media
So if he really had a "change of heart" wouldn't it make more sense not to make a wish at all? Why is it okay to sacrifice himself to save Natalie but not Emilie? Yes, Natalie cares for Adrien, but she's not his mother. I refuse to believe that after everything he sacrificed, Gabriel would just shrug and decide, "Oh well. Adrien will be fine without us. I'll respect Emilie's decision and save Natalie instead."
…Natalie. Who ignored the video too and helped him terrorize Paris for nearly nine months? Who used the peacock miraculous willingly even after knowing what it would do? Who eventually defied him at every turn and even put him in a headlock?
He’s okay saving her because she didn’t request it in a video? 🤨🧐
And if he can only "theoretically" save one, why would he EVER choose his secretary over the love of his life? Over Adrien's own mother?!
I mean, I know Natalie was a good secretary, but damn! 😅
Tumblr media
So just to recap: This is a video he had already seen, a video that failed to prevent him from becoming Hawkmoth in the first place. Yet now, right on the cusp of having his wish granted, he suddenly chooses to respect her last wishes??
A wish that would leave their “miracle” without a parent??
Doesn’t it make more sense if his epiphany was actually this: Emilie doesn’t want him to sacrifice someone in order to bring her back to life—
“No one should have their life stolen from them because of a mistake that we made.”
—so he finally hears her, and resolves that no one else will take her place?
After all, Gabriel’s life is already forfeit, so he doesn’t need to trade someone’s life for hers. So by choosing to sacrifice himself instead of an innocent, he’s respecting Emilie’s wishes, ensuring Adrien won’t be alone, and fulfilling his goal to bring his beloved wife back to life.
It’s not like he wanted to live without her anyway. 🤷‍♀️
And that decision IS huge because it means Gabriel is finally giving up on his ultimate goal: To reunite all three of them as a family. That’s the big "wake-up" call he gets, not that he shouldn't make a wish at all or that Natalie deserves it more.
Like he told Ladybug . . . originally, he was willing to sacrifice anyone:
“In order to bring Emilie back, someone else will have to disappear! In order to heal the wound that Cat Noir inflicted on me, someone else will have to be wounded!”
“Someone else. But who?”
“Anyone. No one matters except us.”
That's why he asked Marinette to keep his secret. He really was making a sacrifice by giving his son the parent he deserves, rather than damning an innocent so they could both be in his life.
He could have been selfish. He could have made the decision to save himself anyway.
But he saw his wife’s video.
Tumblr media
But what about balance?! How could he bring two people back?!
This show retcons like no other. Trust me, they'll find some BS reason to explain how it was possible. They'll either use Gabriel's lines about the "heart and soul" to explain it away; or they'll claim he wished the peacock miraculous was never broken, so neither woman was technically ever ill.
The possibilities are endless. They'll think of something, or pretend they never said it. 🤭
Either way, again - why would he choose Natalie over Emilie??
Tumblr media
Then there's the other context clues.
If Gabriel used his wish to cure Natalie, then why is "Amelie" the main focus in this shot? Shouldn't she be in the background so there's no confusion?
I've read: "But Amelie should be at that party!"
Why? Not every significant adult was there. Tom and Sabine weren’t? And there’s one very obvious reason why Amelie isn’t: If she's there and that's Emilie, then the jig is up. If both twins attended, then the mystery would be solved, there'd be no debate, and we'd all know that Adrien's mother is back. It's the same reason crucial shots were cut from the storyboards.
They're trying to create buzz, mystery, and anticipation for season 6. It's simple marketing. They really don't need another reason, guys.
But let's listen to Astruc and look at the final scene closer.
Tumblr media
Why is Emilie's memorial statue removed? Symbolism? No, it's because she's alive. Why did the mansion suddenly get a flowery, idyllic update? Is Amelie helping Adrien process his grief by installing a swimming pool? No, it's probably because Emilie is back. Why is Adrien smiling and happy, and free to make out with his girlfriend so soon after losing his father? Because he hated Gabriel? No, it’s because his sadness is mitigated by his mother's miraculous return.
Adrien loved his father. Even after everything he put him through, he never stopped caring. So even if he did die for a good cause, it’s normal that he’d be sad and depressed. The fact that he isn’t absolutely traumatized is yet another reason why that has to be Emilie.
For me, nothing makes sense otherwise.
These kids are celebrating something, and it can't just be Monarch's defeat, not when the cost was Adrien's father and they're having this party at his house. There are a million other places they could've gathered to commemorate the end of Monarch terrorizing Paris.
Tumblr media
But it makes perfect sense if it was Emilie's idea. If Emilie is trying to cheer her son up following the “martyrdom” of his father. It's not like Natalie or Amelie would've suggested it, and I doubt it was Adrien or Marinette's idea or any of their friends. They know Adrien's grieving, so I doubt "let's throw a party" would've entered any of their minds.
But Emilie . . . planting flowers, bringing life back into the house. It fits.
And if a Tibetan temple can suddenly reappear after being destroyed 172 years ago and nobody bats an eye, then why can't a fashion mogul's wife? For her, it's only been a year 🙄. And as an explorer/adventurer, there are soooo many ways they could explain her return. The only thing limiting them is imagination.
Tumblr media
And let's be real, most of us had a gut reaction at her appearance and it was "OMG, is that Emilie?!" It wasn't until Thomas Astruc baited us and this theory started making its rounds that we suddenly started second-guessing ourselves.
Tumblr media
Apparently what we "need" is to be gaslit constantly?
Because story and character-wise, if that's not Emilie, then what did Hawkmoth/Shadow Moth/Monarch even die for? He literally wasted nine months terrorizing Paris for what? A commemorative statue? 😅 I mean, I knew he was incompetent, but that takes serious skill.
And finally, back to the leaks.
Now that the finale has aired, and spoilers are less of an issue, here's a friendly reminder that yes, leaked scenes do exist that seem to hint heavily at an answer. If you're trying to pretend they don't or are claiming the moral high ground, then by all means, don’t look. However, I still think it’s only fair to include ALL the evidence, not only what’s convenient or Astruc-approved. And since these leaks are already out there (by no fault of our own), it’s too late to shove them back into their box and pretend they don’t exist.
So if you’re curious and want to know all the facts as they currently stand, then click below.
(⚠️ There ARE leaks below ⚠️)
Tumblr media
Here's that lingering shot everyone was demanding from the finale: It exists in limbo as a deleted scene on the cutting room floor.
And I know some people are claiming the writers simply "changed their minds" but they can't just suddenly decide that's not Emilie. A change THAT significant can't be made on a whim. It would've shaped the ENTIRE story moving forward. This had to be something they had planned from very early on in the season, if not sooner. Not a choice that was made during last minute editing.
Plus, there's the following scene to consider: In the script, Adrien says his mother gave him the rings, but in the storyboard, you can clearly tell that the line was dubbed over and suddenly changed to Ladybug.
So why remove these scenes at all?
Again, to keep the outcome of the wish a mystery. It's to drum up interest for Season 6, that's all. Anything they lost by omitting them can be rectified in the next season: This show LOVES to backtrack.
Lastly, there's this. The 3D model is even marked Emilie:
Tumblr media
I’m sure there are things I’m forgetting, but I think that covers most of it.
So in conclusion: Even though the internet has done a fine job trying to convince us it’s Amelie in that final scene, I still think there's much better reason to believe it really is Emilie.
You're not required to agree, but I had to throw this out there because I'm seeing a lot of people getting vocal and loud about one side of the argument, and seeing relatively little on the other side. So if you've read this far, consider this a friendly way of preparing you in case season 6 does end up going in this direction.
It's better than convincing yourselves otherwise and being blindsided later on.

any crumbs for bb bone and specifically pre-thunderclan iceheart? your take on bloodclan is super interesting :0
Full disclosure: There is a large part of BloodClan History from the Campaign Era (Bluestar's Flowers) to just before the Slash-and-Burn period (TPB) that I'm still shuffling.
This is specifically because I need to hammer out exact details for the Attack on ShadowClan. But anyway--
I want to tell some sort of retooled version of Rise of Scourge that's basically a glimpse into BloodClan and its culture. Instead of Scourge founding it, he joins it as a peon, works his way up as a Problem (warrior role), eventually joins the inner circle of leadership, and takes part in one of their chaotic Succession events.
Succession events are how new leaders are decided. They're a desperate trial period where the given candidates try to prove their worthiness by paying some sort of tribute.
So, for example, Scourge ultimately traps and kills a dog, proving his intelligence and ruthlessness.
Others have tried to kill their competition... which is only disqualifying if you get caught, obviously.
(NOTE: BloodClan has social problems too, it's not my intention to just have it be perfect lmao. It is still quite brutal!! It's just more open about it than the Clans!)
I know I want Scourge to have some sort of formative run-in with Clan cats at some point, where he personally experiences their cruelty.
I actually don't want this to be with Tigerpaw though-- I want no part of Tigerclaw's gutting to be personal. Having that moment be some form of revenge when the page clearly show it's self defense against a murderous dictator throwing a tantrum is one of my most hated retcons, tbh
Re: Darkest Hour Is A Personal Disappointment
Bone was pretty young when she had her kits, and was rising through the ranks at that time. She's around the same age as Yellowfang now.
I think she was one of the other candidates for leadership, but fell in line behind Scourge when she lost.
It's likely that the previous leader was Hal, who died trying to get Brick's niece out of ShadowClan.
Bone is very close with Snake and Ice. They're her idiots.
Those are their Problem names, btw! A Problem chooses a new name when they're registering for work, the name is supposed to be edgy to make you sound ruthless, so you get chosen for good assignments.
Unfortunately though it is very much the Heavy Metal effect where all the cats are edgy, so no one is lmao. But the practice remains.
one day there's going to be a Problem named Party Canon and he's going to get all the good jobs.
I wrote a Brief BloodClan Guide here if you'd like to see that

Thinking about the Ted Lasso finale again and how I feel like it does pretty much land everyone at a satisfying place, just occasionally fumbles getting them there.
And I was thinking specifically about Beard, and how, if we ignore the Jane of it all, Beard and Ted separating IS such a great place for Beard to end the show because of what we learn in Mom City and how it puts so much about Beard into new context.
Beard basically lost all of his relationships when he went to prison. When he got out, he went to Ted because he remembered Ted as a nice guy who he'd had a good relationship with for a time, (and frankly, possibly because he thought he could take advantage of that kindness) and when Ted helped him more than he ever expected, it seems that Beard just stuck with him from that point on. Ted was Beard's ONLY person, and while their friendship is so sweet and wonderful, I think it is so important for Beard to end the series at a point where he feels safe choosing to go a different direction from Ted. He has friends now, a job he's very good at, a community (and, yes, unfortunately, an incredibly toxic relationship that the show can't ever make up it's mind on whether it's a good or bad thing).
In the finale, Beard wants to go with Ted because he's been following him ever since Ted vouched for him with the police, but he wants to stay more because he's finally found connections outside of Ted. And as right of a choice it was for Ted to go home to his son, it's as much of a right choice for Beard to stay in England, a place where he can start anew.
(The problem is that it gets framed as being only about Jane and relationship we don't support. But like SO MUCH about s3, when I actually look at it it WORKS so well for his character, it feels so right post-Mom City's reveal, it just gets messy in the framing/execution. s3 to a T.)
(anyways, I was specifically thinking about Beard because of how many post-canon fics I've read that just casually retcons it so Beard went back with Ted, and I'm like....I don't actually think that's best for him, I think he found a lot more of a life in London than he'd had in America)

I'm sure someone else has already belabored the point about the retcon to Dedf1sh / Acht's storyline, changing them from being willingly sanitized to focus on their music and remove all doubt, to being "forced" to DJ and seemingly not having a choice in being sanatized. I do wonder if this change is only in English ( because. Y'Know. ) but I also wonder if it's because of how much larger 3's player base is? I can see someone arguing that it's important to write to benefit the people who haven't played Octo Expansion, which will statistically be a high amount of people playing Side Order. And because the only sanitized character we meet IS f1sh, they might have wanted to emphasize that it wasn't a thing done willingly overall, and retconning their storyline was the quickest solution. Now they're a lot like the other sanatized, just making music instead of fighting.
but if that's the case, then just emphasize that Acht is different, that Acht made a choice rather than their autonomy being taken from them???? hell, the "forced to DJ for Kamabo" line could even stay - they wanted to work on their music but instead were forced to fall in line and make music for The Man once they got what they wanted. like. #8 regret. They regret the choice because it wasn't what they thought it would be. They were lied to, and now can't escape. There you go.
That could?? even emphasize how Kamabo Co's (for lack of a better word) crimes?????? literally by flattening Acht's agency in their sanitization, it makes them kinda... less interesting? but also they are inherently interesting as a character who has only gotten their ability to choose recently. and the fact that they basically hide the whole time until the very end. But it could've been more.
anyways. play side order theres lesbians

Lele, I have a rambling though
We always have discussions about possibilities for SJM future books (especially acotar 5) and I always read interpretations that are done so very tastefully and with a lot of knowledge on text interpretation, book context and narratives
but the thing is… ppl always treat SJM as this super hiper mastermind and after HOFAS and how messy and not good it was (honestly it was terrible) … I’m a little afraid about acotar 5 and sjm choosing to go with the easiest way (which, for me, would be choosing Elriel - since with Gwyn she would have to treat her trauma her carefully and be more cautions on her narrative) and I don’t know if I see her doing it 😓
(Also… I would like to say as my last though of someone who is following her since 2018 - that SJM loves to write about powerful woman and the friendships between them and their bonds but to let the fandom be where it is today… young impressionable girls treating each other with such hostility and disrespect… I know she probably can’t say anything bc of contracts but man is a hard pillow to swallow that she “let” the fandom be where it is today… which is a horrible place.)
Anon, have some rambling thoughts of mine!!! hehehe
A big difference between acotar and hofas is how thoughtfully she generally treats the acotar characters. I've been thinking a lot about this the past few days and the main thing I dislike about hofas is how the plot and world building absolutely take over everything to the detriment of the characters. I cannot understate how much I dislike Bryce, and I've always pinpointed her lack of consistent values as the core reason why. hofas really, really emphasized that writing flaw. Not character flaw, but writing flaw.
People acting like sjm is some mastermind drives me crazy when we can see all the plot holes and inconsistencies and retcons. One of these days, someone should make a list of them. Anyway, she mentioned rereading the acotar series sometime last year, and I would bet you good money that she did so in order to see what she can use. She has said explicitly that she isn't great at world building and she has also said that she didn't plan the crossover until she was writing hosab. That means any connection we see between hofas and, for instance, acomaf, is a result of her going backwards to see what she can use. Not the other way around. She "planned" in the sense that she wrote really vague stuff in the first place so that she could use it how she wanted to later on. That has become really apparent to me with the crossover.
Like... for example, Mor's power is "truth". Vague as fuck, right? I would bet good money (again haha like I'm rich) that sjm didn't even know what that meant in acomaf other than "I need a reason for the mortal queens to trust Mor". And then she'll figure out the mechanics and technicalities later and the fandom will call her brilliant for it. *facepalm*
I don't see e*riel being easy at all. But that's all I will say about that hehe.
Gwyn's story aligns perfectly with what sjm has already been doing in acotar, with Rhys and Lucien, and to an extent Nesta. I don't have any concerns there because I think her strength is in her characterization. (CC is just... another beast.) There was an interview she did a while back where she talked about the movie Promising Young Woman and it really emphasized to me that sjm's particular brand of feminism revolves around gender and sex. This isn't a critique, just a statement of what I've observed. My point is that she is very aware of rape culture and has strong feelings about it and gives characters the space to heal on page, and so that's not really a concern of mine, especially in acotar.
To your final point, I got SO frustrated the other day in the group chat, @sabrinasam said it was the most frustrated she's ever seen me haha. I'm so tired of sjm and the publisher being coy about this!!!! But mostly, I am so, so sick of people in this fandom treating each other like shit just because they don't agree on ships. Like it's one thing to have notps and brotps and to be annoyed by or even hate certain characters. It's a completely different thing when people feel totally comfortable going out in public and treating other actual, real, human people like absolute garbage because of those feelings.
Azriel is never gonna lick your fucking home entertainment center!!! Get the fuck over it!!!!!!!!!
I don't think that sjm is at fault for this because I think that people are responsible for their own actions. I also fully believe that the people taking screenshots and mocking them publicly (of people who probably have them blocked anyway, fucking stalkers) or just outright attacking people on different platforms would be doing that exact same thing whether it was about sjm or not. Like you could just stick them in another fandom, and these people would act the same deplorable way.
Anyway. I'm fucking tired. I'm still excited for acotar5 and will continue that series and when I was doing a lil voice chat with my friends for hours last weekend it revived my enjoyment of acotar and ToG. The fandom just makes it a lot of work, trying to have fun.

The Rain Code x Warriors au no one asked for nor will receive an explanation for
What's up I'm still doing bad and feel my last year's mystery stress sickness is coming back and none of my drafts are anywhere remotely close to getting finished anytime soon because of that how are you are you interested in cat
(picked the TPB timeline because it makes the most sense and has the most fitting characters, but I might cheat or bend it a little, we'll see)
Yuma Kokohead -> Rusty/Firestar
Main boy :) because of course he is. Yuma's now an orange cat. Firestar was the name of Number One, and Rusty (canonically Fire's old house cat name, I'm not calling them kittypets I'm sorry) was the name of the trainee he very politely borrowed his identity for.
Makoto Kagutsuchi -> Scourge
In wc canon, Scourge is also Firestar's half-brother (but they don't ever knooow) and they both kill each other + he's canonically stated to be VERY short like one of the smallest cats in the series. After the cloning, Makoscourge painted his fur completely black except for a one white paw (for the aesthetics. or maybe I'll just give Fire a white paw as well, kinda like Yuma's and Makoto's lil ahoges), started wearing the "OwO" mask, the dog tooth studded shrimp color collar, the fucking blood dyed amv bangs, the dog tooth reinforced claws........ The former CEO took him to hot topic for the first time in his life and he was fucking MESMERIZED none of them knew what they have brought upon themselves by this single act. He is a very silly man, lost in the whimsy. When his mask gets pulled off in the Mystery Labirynth, his face is just not dyed at all and it's just ginger with green eyes just like Rusty's/Firestar's/Yuma's/whatever.
Shinigami -> Spottedleaf
In canon, Spottedleaf does infamously end up haunting Firestar's dreams as a ghost to send him cryptic visions and furiously make out with him in front of his pregnant wife, he did have a crush on her before she died and I'm pretty sure she was retconned into reciprocating it was real bad and then they double killed her so Fire won't have to choose between her and his wife in heaven it was REAL bad uhh. I still like her though. I can get you out of the narrative girl just take my hand.... She can be the weirdgirl incarnate she was always meant to be. I wanted to say something else but then I realized holy shit I'm just tweaking her into Bonefall rewrite Spottedleaf am I... What can I say it IS peak Spottedleaf.
Yomi Hellsmile -> Tigerstar
Also extremely obvious. He is evil and has immaculate sexual tension between the protag whoops sorry I forgot literally only me and like 2 other people here ship Yuma and Yomi uhh anyway. While it does fit I'm a little dissapointed that Yomi/Tigerstar is gonna be losing so much of his cringe charm..... Like, say goodbye to deeply unserious insecure prettyboy toothpick Yaoi with silly little insults such as "umbrella sewing machine man operating hand hook car table" and how do I even describe all of this in less than 3 paragraphs. Say hello to broad-shouldered muscular extremely intimidating 100% serious and competent fascist built like a fucking brick shithouse with very broad-shoulders that doesn't need a henchman boytoy to handle all his numerous murders, have I mentioned his massive fucking broad shoulders, Firestar sure did do that a lot. It's like, where's the fun..... Whatever.... I guess...........😔😔😔
Martina Electro -> Leopardstar
Now for an assigned role I'm way more cool with >:)))) for an outrageously long while I had trouble with whether Martina should be Sasha or Goldenflower, fool I was, until I remembered Leopardstar fucking exists. She is literally perfect like I cannot state this enough. AND canonically she was later retconned to have feelings for Tigerstar but I hate to acknowledge it how dare you massacre Lep like that. She can still be his gf alongside vice director though, she's just engaging in acts of deceit whilst putting opioids in his food and trying her darndest to convince herself she's actually 100% in control of the situation before she's dragged to the cube dimension and has a brief "are we the baddies" moment. I don't think she still resigns from being a peacekeeper though Leopardstar 100% would take that fucking promotion the moment she's offered it and a year later when she' done feeling guilty regresses back into being a violent asshole she has learned NOTHING❤️
Fake/Hitman Zilch -> Darkstripe
So many dissapointments happening here sigh..... This one was obvious and honestly the only valid option for FZilch aside from maybe Nightwhisper or Blackfoot? Anyway, the downsides: one, Darkstripe will never be as cool as fake Zilch he thrives on being a cringe mistreated lickspittle. Two, he's definitely not one of Tigerstar's "closest advisors (🏳️‍🌈)" whilst Dark is pretty obsessed Tiger does not give a shit and considers him a looooooser boooo lameee fuck you *canonically swats him away with his tail that one scene*. But, I mean, at least the toxic yaoi became an entire new category of toxic.
Swank Catsonell -> Brokenstar
Pure vibes. It just fits. He employs small children and makes them fight to the death in his office for glory
Seth Burroughs -> Longtail
In canon, another one of Tigerstar's lackeys that didn't know about his crimes and when he found out he immediately left. I thought he was not evil enough to be Seth at first, but it kinda fits and he does make up for it in his cringe value and being noted to be a coward, though that may have been just Fire's opinion. Also, with all the bunny Seth Burrows jokes, I'd like to mention Longtail got his eyes clawed by a rabbit so hard he went blind so do with that what you will
Guillaume Hall -> Russetfur
Aaaand this is where I started having trouble with the remaining peacekeepers. Eventually I settled on Russetfur & Blackfoot/Blackstar for Guillaume and Dominic, because I like this danger duo I and some of the fandom completely made up about them. It's okay, the authors don't know you like we do...... While Blackstar did have a higher rank and Russet was his deputy, I do think she still had at least an equal amount of power as him, they're buddies pair bonded for life Blackstar is nodding respectfully to whatever incomprehensible wisdom she's sharing
Dominic Fulltank -> Blackfoot/star
In canon, started out as a murderous henchman of two major equally murderous evil dictators, before they both died and he finally got that boss promotion he always wanted, then he got ruined by the, you guessed it, retcons, but I don't like to be reminded of his atrocity of a novella. I always imagined Blackstar as like, unbelievably jacked holy shit the muscles on that cat, (and honestly most of the fandom does too so. lmao) and he does indeed canonically unflinchingly do the dirty work of all his bosses such as killing and maiming and destroying an
You get the point. He serious'd. Darkstripe wishes he could be him. And I'm pretty sure that was even canonically implied in the sixth book lmaooooooooo. Loser <3
Dr. Huesca -> um. Goosefeather?
The looks definitely fit, Dr. Huesca indeed bears striking resemblance to that tortured feline. However, while sometimes an asshole, Goose is definitely not evil... But he could be. He deserves to be. As a treat. Also: old man pride
Kurumi Wendy -> Cinderpaw/pelt
Easy, get Cinder'd idiot. They even have a pretty similiar energy too, I feel. This is where I got a bit tired, uhh...It's 11pm. Anyway I love Cinder and I love Kurumi say anything bad about them and I'll start scream crying on the floor
Halara Nightmare -> Yellowfang
Halara gets the old beam. They're now in their fucking 60s or something perhaps 70s. Yellowfang, on the other hand, gets the non-binary spec beam. She already gave off massive butch vibes in canon already, whatever. I don't think I can uhh in short terms explain Yellowfang's whole deal rn but the gist of it she's a very snarky grandma figure to Fire that gradually warmed up to him while she was- my cat vomited. While he was assigned to take care of her while she was taken prisoner into ThunderClan camp. Her personality's pretty funky. And she does seem cool enough in order to deserve to be Halara Nightmare.
Desuhiko Thunderbolt -> Graystripe
I think I'm taking a break and coming back to this tomorrow actually after all. Hello this is tomorrow Jasper. In canon, Graystripe is Fire's silly goofy boybestie when they're young, then he starts secretly dating Silverstream - hold on i can't fuvking take tjis im making myself hot cocoa again bye. Ok it's done let's see if that makes me feel something. As I was saying he's dating this cat and she's from a rival Clan so that's illegal forbidden love and then she dies during childbirth and he leaves his own Clan for a while to raise their babies there but then he gets exiled and goes back to his own and then his kids almost get publically executed for being half-clan so he and his buddies rescue them. And then he gets abducted by humans and meets this new gal called Millie and they start dating and then she gives birth to his new babies and then a tree falls on one of them. I'm pretty sure Fire was also pretty gay for that guy. Uh, anyway. I think he fits the bill because of his goofy charm but also it's pretty disturbing to imagine any iteration of Desuhiko actually getting bitches
Fubuki Clockford -> um. uh. Silverstream?
Silverstream, in canon, is the only daughter of Crookedstar, the leader of RiverClan, and is (implied to not having a problem with) getting various privileges because of this. Fits with Fubuki's rich timelord parents, plus light blue aesthetic, and a few other things which are hard to articulate. Only thing is that she's generally way more headstrong and impulsive than Fubuki showed to be, could "bend her father to her will with little effort", and disrespects the law if it's stupid to her which, queen shit. I think she'll play a lot of little pranks with her time powers, and devote her free time/time with YumaRusty when he's accused of terrorism crimes (but that's just unrestrained summer fun anyway) to absolutely decimate any peacekeepers they come across with some looney tunes shit
Vivia Twilight -> I'll be honest I have no fucking idea
Zero fucking idea. Literally NOBODY in this arc fits for the 5D chess of a character Vivia is. I'm not even sure if in any of the books. Help me. But also I don't really care because I don't even like Vivia at all anyway he freaks me out get him away from me.
Yakou Furio -> Bluestar?
Protag mentor figure except Bluestar is actually doing a good job at that until she loses her marbles after her mid-arc torment gauntlet and has a corruption arc until she drowns and gets healed of all her issues momentarily before fucking dying. She has a dead husband, dead mom, dead sister, dead baby, dead deputy, dead deputy #2, dead bestie, holy shit that's a lot of motives for suicidemurdering Huesgoose. Btw Goose was her weird voice of god hearing uncle in canon (and he was also dead) but I'm probably taking it out unless. Anyway she's kinda too good for Yakou but. They're also both blue like that is a blue cat
And for some side characters, keyword some:
Aiko -> Littlepaw/cloud
Aetheria's now not an all girls school anymore sorry I cannot do this guys. Littlecloud was Cinder's/Kurumi's good buddy and I like their friendship. Unfortunately, you know what that means.
Karen -> Swiftpaw
Originally was supposed to have Aiko's place before I remembered Little exists. In canon his most notable moment was dying brutally, which I mean also fits the Karen quota. Plus, while not an asshole per se he does have a more fiery/overall angry personality and he did try to impulsively take on a pack of dogs to prove himself and fucking died, if under enough pressure I'm pretty sure he could smash Aiko's/Littlepaw's head in with a brick too👍👍
Yoshiko, Waruna, Kurane -> Brackenpaw/fur, Thornpaw/claw, Brightpaw/heart?
Siblings in canon and two of them are guys so no murderous yuri I guess :(( But I mean I don't have to follow canon to a T anyway lmao so we'll see. In canon, basically the other three remaining apprentices along with Swiftpaw and the ashfern siblings, plus they do function as a trio via just being sibs. Plus some notes from the books: Cinder is the fourth sibling. Brightpaw follows Swiftpaw in his quest to slay the doggy and while he dies she survives but gets her eyeball and half of her entire face's fur torn off.
Real Zilch -> Redtail
He's very dead. Very, very dead. His most iconic moment was dying abruptly and tragically via murder rip in rest
Kei Colan -> Snowkit
He is a child. That's a little boy
Snowkit, signing furiously: MY MAMA GOT FRAMED AND IS GOING TO BE PUBLICALLY EXECUTED BY THE PEACEKEEPERS IF NOTHING IS DONE PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEE. HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Yellowfang, signing back in swagful motions: and how much cash does your mama have on her currently
Jiei Colan -> Speckletail
Snowkit's very old mama. Looks like she could kill you but genuinely does not have a body count. Yet.
Ramen Stand Owner -> Ravenpaw
Ravenpaw in canon hit the bricks and ran away from the Clans due to being in danger there, and lived out the rest of his days on a farm with his cowboy boyfriend Barley mostly free of drama. I'd say that fits lmao. We can make his old name Rusty, not a problem.
Margulaw -> Pinestar
90 year old voice "yeah so uhh my fucking son grew up to be a dictator now. When he was a newborn ghosts were yelling at me to kill him because he'll grow up to be a bad man otherwise and of course like any sane kanaiwardian father I said "fuck that" and had to leave ma' family behind run away from the company so the demons would shut up. And y'know little buddy... Sometimes I wonder. Sometimes I just can't help but. Y'know. Anyway. Sigh."
Do you get my vision did that sound comprehensible

Hi, hello! Binturong anon with a lot of word vomit here, so be warned. I just read your reply to my ask and I'm so happy right now! I was slightly worried for a bit that you didn't like my silly little story, but hearing that you put off posting it because you liked reading it made me feel warm inside. And you want to draw it someday??? 😳 I can't believe this I'm hdhdjgk
As for my Sol OCs, I do have a few that are specifically parallels, but I'm never quite happy with them. There's always so many good ideas and I sometimes end up finding other people's takes on them that are SO cool (like Rime!) or that have ideas I was thinking of and I'm suddenly paranoid that I'm ripping off somebody else's character...
I absolutely get the struggle of deciding things like species, there's so many cool animals to use and I freaking struggled deciding on ones for mine. The Knuckles one is probably one of the most complete actually, but unfortunately I cannot show you her or any others because I'm not an artist. 😞 So I just rotate them all in my head until I think "Nice" and put it down on a digital notepad. I'm always interested to see others create their takes on them though! I'm certainly interested in all of yours!
I never considered Team Dark, apart from my Sol Shadow, who's definitely the least thought out. There's so many other cool ones out there, so I never really bothered. The few I have, if you're curious, are supposed to be Knuckles and Amy, to round out Blaze and Marine's Classic Quartet basically. And also a different Sol Eggman, because Blaze's nemesis being Eggman in G-major feels like a kick in the face to both Blaze and the actual Eggman 😒. (I also have a Sol Big but she's technically a joke character. She's also really small. I gave her a dinosaur though, as all women deserve.)
Anyway, basically just wanted to let you know that Rime is cool and I'm going to be thinking about that reply for the foreseeable future. Have a good week!
SORRYY I LEFT THIS SO LONG stuff kept happening and then I got ill and then more stuff happened 😩
But! Yeah!! I think it's cool seeing other people's ideas for stuff like this, like I know for sure there are other versions of Sol Shadow out there that are ice powered cats like Rime!! I don't rlly think it's the end of the world if people independently come up with the same ideas as long as you don't purposefully copy anyone.
God you're so right about there being so many cool animals to choose from... Sol Rouge was easy for me but everyone else is being a pain skfjfhdgd. Eventually I'll figure them out though. (One day I promise...) Also! It seems like you have the descriptions of characters down even if you can't draw them, so you could always commission someone!!
I love the idea of Sol Amy too, I personally have 0 ideas for them so might not design my own version tbh. But having a Sol Classic 4 is super cute! You could have a lot of fun with their designs too, the way classic Amy looks pretty different from modern Amy. Sol Eggman too... I've just kinda retconned Nega and made him actually be from the Sol dimension idc about canon LOL I haven't thought about it too much.
Also TINY SOL BIG??? I'm in love that's so cute and such a fun alt version. With a dinosaur too FUCK yes.
I really love how imaginative people are when it comes to the Sol dimension, actually giving it more characters and lore! If sega won't give it love then at least we will 😤
Thank you sm for enjoying Rime, and once again sorry this took so long for me to answer 🥲🩵 I hope you have a nice week too!!!

The Paradox of Woobifying Ursa
Fire Lady Ursa is...a complicated character. On the one hand, you have the almost saintly, caring mother that was the shining beacon in Zuko's childhood. On the other, she screwed up horrifically with Azula and she did support the imperialistic Fire Nation. She did smile at the thought of Ba Sing Se burning to the ground after all and there's no reason to suggest she was any different. No matter what the comics try to retcon or change, there's no denying the fact that Ursa has a lot of skeletons in the closet.
Here's where I have another issue with the comics. They try so hard to make Ursa a woobie and sweep all her flaws under the rug, maybe trotted out now and again, but always portraying her as a helpless victim of Ozai.
But...here's the irony.
This Ursa is much less sympathetic and interesting than the Ursa we saw in canon.
See, the Ursa in canon had flaws. A lot of them, no doubt. But she was never portrayed as a hapless victim. There was an edge beneath those layers of silk. Aside from supporting the regime, she was the one who was willing to kill the Fire Lord to protect her children. She had an agency in her actions and not just an abused housewife. It's what made her character interesting in the first place. That she was more than just another noblewoman.
The comics stripped that away from her. All of her agency was reduced to virtually nothing. Outside of the bit with the archer, all of her questionable actions were downplayed or given to somebody else. Her character was virtually reduced to "victim" and very little outside of "victim".
Which ironically made her unsympathetic since her nasty qualities like her questionable parenting of Azula is unaddressed and pushed onto Azula herself. She also gets even worse actions like being responsible for making Zuko's life hell with that asinine letter (which was unbelievably stupid on her part), but NOBODY CALLS HER OUT ON IT. Hell, the narrative wants us to feel sorry for her when Kiyi rejects her, when it is absolutely her fault for choosing to forget her children and have a new face. All attempts of sympathy for her fall flat when she's just a whiny piece of cardboard who never learns from her mistakes and all attempts at whitewashing her for Zuko's sake fall utterly since this narrative does. Not. WORK.
Compare this with Canon!Ursa who, again, DID have agency, and wasn't portrayed as being endlessly weepy all the time unable to change her fortunes.
Look, living with Ozai couldn't have been easy. But portraying Ursa as helpless ironically is a disservice to her. Cause now that moral ambiguity and the qualities that makes her fascinating are stripped. And for what? To make her sympathetic or the white sheep? I'm sorry, but whitewashing an imperialist is a disservice to her. Implying she was always good is an insult to the character.
Cause if Ursa doesn't have any flaws, any qualities that makes her human, then what's the point of reading about her to see if she can overcome them?
Change is an integral part of the franchise. So if Ursa was always perfect, how on earth can she change and grow, to overcome her flaws and become stronger as a result?
Tumblr media
This is Fire Lady Ursa. Who she should be, anyways. Compassionate. Neglectful. A product of the Fire Nation. A mother willing to suffer the consequences for the sake of her children, even if she was never the best mother. A character with the capacity for both good and evil. A mess of qualities both detestable and admirable.
In other words: human.

Hello....Can I ask your top 5 favorite moments each from Buddy Daddies and Spy x Family? If the two families ever meet, who do you think Kazuki will be besties to (Loid or Yor)? Why? Also, do you think Anya can be bff with Miri? Sorry if you've answered this questions before...
Hello Anon!
Thank you for the ask! Also, I'm sorry for taking some time to respond. And no need to apologize! I haven't answered these questions before, but even if I had, my favorite moments for Buddy Daddies and Spy x Family change over time and depend on how I'm feeling, so I'd probably have different answers anyways. Plus, I'd never pass a chance to talk about these two shows! I'll stop talking now and just get to it! I hope you enjoy!
5 Favorite Moments from Buddy Daddies:
Rei & Kazuki storming Suwa Manor (ep. 12)
Rei calling himself Miri's papa (ep. 3)
Miri getting her own room (ep. 4)
Car discussion on Rei's birthday (ep. 8)
Ferris Wheel Scene (ep. 10)
5 Favorite Moments from Spy x Family:
Loid telling Anya "Let's go home" (ep. 1)
Loid "winning" Anya the stuffed penguin, a.k.a Agent Peguinman (ep. 13)
Loid's entrance at Camilla + Dominic's party, along with him standing by Yor (ep. 2)
Princess Anya (ep. 5, especially when Franky is quizzing Twilight and at the top of the castle)
Yor leading Olka, Gram, and Zeb to their new room (ep. 31)
I'll put my explanations at the bottom of this post so I can get to your other questions. That way, I can still explain why I chose each moment, if you're interested in knowing, and it helps a bit with the formatting. I'd also like to add, the order in which I listed each moment does not correlate to how much I love each moment comparatively to the other ones (maybe with the exception of #1). Narrowing it down to five for both shows was already a hard task, so just know, I really, really love the moments or scenes listed aboe.
Now, for your next question, if these two families met, I honestly think Kazuki would kinda be besties with both. I do see Rei being besties with Yor moreso than Loid, so if going for a one-to-one pairing, then technically, that means I see Kazuki being besties with Loid.
It's discussed throughout Buddy Daddies, and clearly shown in their depictions/portrayals, that Kazuki is more of the social butterfly and talker between him and Rei. That's one reason why Kazuki would likely get close to Loid and Yor, through spending equal amounts of time with each of them. Also, in taking charge of many of the household chores, Kazuki would be able to connect with or trade tips/stories with Loid when it comes to cooking and Yor when it comes to cleaning. Even in terms of their jobs, Kazuki connects with both Loid and Yor (he is the "disguise guy" between him and Rei, and he does a lot of retcon/information gathering, but by name/occupation, he is a hitman or an assassin, who can certainly stand his own ground). Being able to hang out and easily talk with both Yor and Loid could also be a part of Kazuki's personality. I feel that Kazuki could talk with Loid or Yor in a way that feels like it's a conversation specific to the person he is talking with, and not just him making small talk. Kazuki would become besties with both Yor and Loid because, I'd argue, he can connect to each of them in different ways but that make the other feel seen and heard.
If I had to choose though, then I'd argue Kazuki would be besties with Loid if these two families ever met. I feel like they'd connect with each other just a little more over cooking for the family and the mutual panic that strikes each of them when another family member does something unplanned or unexpected.
And for your third question, do I think Anya can be bff with Miri, possibly, leaning more towards yes. We've yet to really dive into Anya's backstory (though I think we're all anticipating it will happen soon), but I get the impression that Anya's first real friendship is with Becky. At first, there was a real big sister-little sister dynamic in Anya and Becky's friendship, which has begun to evolve. Given the type of classmates Anya has, and their attitudes towards her/each other, Anya might be affected by those interactions and also sorta take Miri under her wing, teaching her about all the things she's picked up on at Eden since Miri's getting a completely different schooling experience at Aozora Daycare.
I do think Anya and Miri would be friends, but it will take some time for them to become super close and move away from that sister dynamic I feel might initially develop. Again, even if Anya is actually 6 (and not 4 or 5), the way the other children in her grade level act is quite mature. So, I honestly think it would be a good thing for Anya to be able to hang out with and do normal(?) things a four year old does. While Anya finds or makes her own fun in between studying and trying to earn Stellas, spending time with Miri may provide Anya the opportunity to live out her childhood too and feel what it means to just be four. The settings for Buddy Daddies and Spy x Family, along with the tone in some cases, can be pretty different from each other, so Anya getting the chance to spend time with Miri, and not have any other worries or stressors to deal with would probably be a good thing for her. And in having fun together and sharing experiences that result in positive memories, Anya would begin to look forward to spending time with Miri, which, if she doesn't already, would eventually lead to an acknowledgement that yes, they are friends, and based on the good Miri may bring to Anya's life, they are bffs.
.
.
.
Thank you again for the ask, Anon! I had a lot of fun answering these questions, especially since I'm always up for a BD and SxF crossover!
And again, apologies for the delay in my response! I really enjoyed your questions so I wanted to give myself the proper time to think them over and write out my response. Let me just put a reminder here again, but the reasonings for my 5 favorite moments will be after this section, if you would like to know!
Feel free to send my way any other questions or musings about Buddy Daddies, Spy x Family, or both, Anon!
-Dakota Wren
5 Favorite Moments from Buddy Daddies
Back in May, I did a 30 Days of Buddy Daddies challenge or prompt. Day 7 was "Favorite Scene" and that has not changed. I wish I had a better or more coherent explanation, but this scene of Kazuki and Rei storming Suwa Manor, I can never get enough of it. Like I mentioned in that explanation, I think the reason why I enjoy this moment so much is because we are seeing Kazuki and Rei working together, and seeing just how well they can work together on the job. And one reason why I think they are working together so well is because they are both fighting for or working towards the same goal, or for a future together as a family, with Miri. In these scenes/moments, Kazuki and Rei are essentially putting everything on the line if it means they have a chance to leave freely and live the life they both want now.
In all seriousness, I have no idea how many times I have watched the clip of this moment. And no matter what number rewatch I am on, this moment always makes my heart melt. Rei finally stepping out of his father's shadow to rise up and be the one to "save" Miri and Miri instantly accepting him as "Papa Rei" and running to him. Now knowing his arc and how much Rei grows over the series, this moment also feels like the start or one of the earlier milestones that eventually leads him to take on his father.
Nothing but fluff in this post-credits scene. My reasoning truly does not go beyond Miri is so indescribably happy to get her own room and Rei and Kazuki are so happy to see their daughter already in love with her room. Each of their reactions is just so sweet and, to me at least, shows how quickly they are growing close as a family.
I was debating of whether or not to choose this scene or Rei and Kazuki's discussion in ep. 11 at the safehouse. In the end, I chose this scene because of how they both somewhat acknowledge how much they've grown since they first met/moved in together, and perhaps the lingering sense of optimism they both feel in that moment about whether or not they can change. There is this feeling of them beginning to see that their individual futures and their futures as a family, with each other, and with Miri might be a light that will lead them out of the darkness and how they are both more than their jobs and their pasts. And yes, those feelings are still around in that ep. 11 discussion, but I like how in ep. 8, there is still a bit of uncertainty about what comes next (and not necessarily in bad way) as opposed to ep. 11, where they both realize what must be done.
To completely counter the previous moment/reasoning, it's a little ironic how this is one of my favorite moments and yet it is a moment that manages to always destroys me. I've also talked about my reaction to this scene before, but it is the defeat that both Kazuki and Rei feel in this moment that they could not change or continue to provide for Miri which breaks my heart. It is this recognition and, while perhaps not fully willingly, choice to give up Miri in hopes that she can experience and live a normal childhood that shows how much they have indeed changed for the better. They are putting Miri's life and happiness above their own. Before Miri, I get the impression neither Rei nor Kazuki thought they were capable or deserving of such happiness. So to see them agree that it is better for them to give that up than to bring harm to Miri, the source of that happiness, speaks volumes. Also, seeing Rei and Kazuki both acknowledge how much Miri has changed their lives in that year makes me so emotional.
5 Favorite Moments from Spy x Family
I'm pretty certain I've talked about it before, but Spy x Family is what got me into anime. After getting lunch together, in their car, a good friend of mine literally sat me down and said we are watching this and we are not leaving the parking lot until we finish at least the first episode. There are several moments from this episode which I enjoyed, laughed at, and loved, but this moment in particular is what made me really fall in love with this show and think to myself, okay, I'm gonna give this show a chance. And boy, look what grew out of it. Aside from the memories associated with this moment, I love how vulnerable Anya and Twilight are to one another in this moment, even if they are both not being completely honest with each other (since it would blow their secret identities).
Something about Twilight trying to go "for the mission" during this moment, but then seeing Anya's big smile is just, ahhh I don't know. The circumstances for their family outing to the aquarium is to keep up family appearances, or the illusion that the Forgers are a real family. I think that I like how in this moment, Twilight is still trying to keep up that front of him returning to the group with the penguin plush, and explaining his absence as due to his concentration on trying to win it for Anya, when he obviously was working on a secondary mission. And yet, Anya overhears/understands his thoughts, yet this penguin means everything to her still (as seen in her reaction in ep. 21 when Bond gets jealous)
This is a moment that continues to stand out to me like it does to Yor. Sure, Twilight might have been saying these things to not blow his cover/convince Yor that he is a perfectly normal citizen, but to Yor, hearing those words gives her the recognition she seldom received in terms of sacrifice for her family, and how much she should be proud of/appreciate the work she does. While neither characters nows it, and this may possibly just be my own interpretation, I also enjoy how Twilight's words almost seen chosen based on a vulnerability he feels he can expose ever so slightly through the guise of his current cover. The slightly unintentional bond that forms between Twilight and Yor in this moment, and the impact his words clearly have on Yor, makes me even more excited to see what Yor's reaction will be if/when an identity reveals happens.
Ep. 5 in general is one of my favorites and how the animators expanded on the castle scenes from chapter 6. I love how Loid, with a little bit of prodding from Anya and Franky, absolutely does everything in his power to treat Anya like a real princess, her adorable little crown, and her genuine excitement over seeing Loidman and all the things he must do to "save the princess." I don't think it's farfetched to say, that this is the most individual and special attention Anya has likely received since escaping the labs, making her appreciate everything Loid did for her even more. The culmination of her love and appreciation for that night and since Loid adopted Anya in her promise to do well in school is the cherry on top for me.
There are a lot of moments from the Cruise Arc that I was debating between, but this is the moment I chose because it really shows off Yor's other skills. The way she is quick to improvise, detecting who and where are her threats, and the confidence she has in taking down any potential threats. It's nice to see Yor in her element and see examples of why Thorn Princess has such notoriety to her name.

WHERE DID THIS THROWBACK FROM 2016 COME FROM EDIPIEMME
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I SHOVELED THESE INTO THE RECESSES OF MY MEMORY NEVER TO BE RESURFACED HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME EDIPIEMME--
Hahahahah hi Tumblr I think it's about time I brought my cringy fandom past to this hellsite--
If you've seen this cover on Wattpad, then uh yeah that was me hi
But if not, then lemme enlighten you: this was an ask and dare book I made back in my early high school days where I explored my Elemental!Thea Stilton AU without having to commit to a whole-ass novel that would cement my embarrassment for generations. The idea was there are these five elemental essences that would choose a "host" (not limited to mice, can also inhabit animals that aren't insects/arachnids), and they would merge with the "host" the moment they're born. The host would eventually grow up being able to harness the powers of the given element, but besides that they're set for a normal-ish lifespan. The moment they die, the essence in the elemental will select a new host that is born the same time the old host dies. Rinse and repeat a lotta times with some evil mad scientist shenanigans until this whole elemental essence thing smacks Violet in the face my beloved
Is it old? Absolutely, the AU was technically born in second grade. Did I retcon this lore more than once? Yes, but not a lot of differences from the original. Did I draw Violet a lot? Yes, because I'm a simp Vi in my head was the easiest to draw because of her simplistic silhouette. Did I have a lot of fics planned for it but never got around to it because cringe and also writers block? Yes. Am I confused as to how Elisabetta Dami came up with the idea of the AU? Definitely.
Anyway I'm off to doodle something about this bye--

I know you're on your BtVS feels rn, but I was wondering what are your thoughts on how Cordy was treated in AtS season 4...
Oh boy!! BtVS and AtS feels are pretty much the same to me. I'm so glad someone asked but rest assured I was going to rant about it unprompted anyway, at some point.
My thoughts are 👿👿😒😕🙄 Buckle up!
After how good season 3 was Cordelia and how I finally felt like she was on a show that deserved her, they go and do this. I found the whole season disappointing but particularly Cordy's role, or lack of it. So like, what, was Cordy just not actually there for the majority of the season? They're gonna retcon my girl like that, make it divine intervention that she got the visions and used them valiantly? It feels very disrespectful to the character who's grown SO much. It's like spitting in the face of her whole LA journey. The audacity to have her arc end like that last season only for them to turn around and say SIKE! Ha, you thought she could earn being a higher power? Please. It was all orchestrated.
Ngl part of me was glad it wasn't actually Cordelia who slept with Angel's son (choosing to believe that was fully Jasmine's possession) but still!! And the fact that she was nothing but a puppet this season. The fact that they had to go with a stupid pregnancy storyline. They reduced her to not only a pawn in what was going to be a hugely empowering story but also to little more than an incubator. I already disliked the one episode storyline of forced magical pregnancy that she had with Veronica Mars co-star Ken Marino back in s1. And the Darla pregnancy already didn't sit well with me at all in how it used her character as a prop to further Angel's story. But this? This is both of those combined and worse. I quite honestly hated it more than I've ever hated any other Buffyverse storyline. The Trio were just annoying and not funny. This was insulting.
Tumblr media
I was going to make a disgusted post when Cordy and Connor slept together but I was like, well that is Yikes but let's wait it out. Maybe... maybe the moment can be redeemed. And then joke is on me because it somehow got worse with the Jasmine reveal. I found it so hard to take this story seriously and all the while I was thinking of how callously Cordelia's character was sidelined in favour of this bs. I hate that she became something for Angel and Connor to fight over, I hate how she was robbed of her agency and I hate how she ends the season in a freaking coma. I hate that all of this happened to her without Cordelia having any say whatsoever. I think she was treated appallingly this season. Again, how much of it was even Cordy at all? Maybe Spin the Bottle really was her but that was (pre-)BtVS season 1 Cordy. Where was my AtS s3 Cordy? In a fucking coma apparently. Ah, I'm just mad about it. Clearly, lol. All of it is highly disrespectful and frankly gross.
Please tell me I'm not alone in feeling like this Anon, please tell me what your thoughts are on Cordy in s4. Justice for Cordy, jfc.
