some thoughts about guilty yuno...

ok so yuno's crime is obvious. she had an abortion.

the fandom seems to see her choices as "is abortion good or bad" but i think that may be...over-simplifying things a bit?

let me preface this by saying i am pro-choice, it's not my decision what someone else does with their body, they need to do what's best for them.

that being said...being pro-choice also means accepting the choice not to have an abortion.

i feel like yuno's story is the most oversimplified simply because the majority doesn't see abortion as something morally wrong. but we're missing the fact that yuno does.

"I have no intent to say abortion isn’t murder. I’m a respectable murderer."

"But if you refer to the law, regardless, I can't be accused of murder."

Yuno wanted to be voted guilty. But why?

"Kotoko is someone I would never want to make my friend, though. She’s the type who picks a conclusion from the very beginning and won’t actually talk with you."

"[The audience] Arbitrarily deciding that I’m pitiable. Arbitrarily making up a backstory for me. Creating a personally idealized version of me. Creating an acceptable version of me."

In Yuno's first MV, most people picked up on the fact that she's doing compensated dating and that it resulted in an abortion. She outright confirms it in her second VD. But then we the audience decided what her reasons were because the majority of people who get abortions don't regret them.

I don't think Yuno wanted to get an abortion.

When you look at her from that angle, a lot of her contradictory behavior begins to make sense, and you begin to see how she fits into Milgram's moral dilemmas. Her story is still a story about choice...but instead of being about her choice to get an abortion it's about her choice to decide to keep her child.

There's a lot of reasons why someone in Yuno's position wouldn't want to have a child.

She's 18.

She's not in a stable relationship with whoever the father would be.

She doesn't have a steady job besides comp dating that we know of.

It was really easy for the audience to come to the conclusion that "she got an abortion because she didn't want to be pregnant." In that case, she's innocent right? She did the best choice for her, so she did nothing wrong.

But if Yuno did want her child...It's no wonder why she's so disgusted with her innocent vote. She was pressured into an abortion she didn't want, and has learned everyone thinks it was for the best. That we know what's best for her, and not herself. If she was voted guilty, I don't think it would be punishing her for the act of having an abortion...but the act of folding to someone else's demands.

If I was in Yuno's position I would abort. But I am not Yuno. I have no right to decide what is best for her. And if we look at the lyrics of Umbilical...I genuinely think she wanted her child.

Verse and Chorus 1 read to me from the first time I heard it as her singing to her child.

"Just the two of us I feel a little tingle inside Our love links us together Just me alone, the warmth starts fading away Let’s reload the warmth"

Verse 2, is her to the child's father, who wants her to abort.

"Am I a bad girl? Please don’t answer What do you want to do? Please tell me"

"Just the two of us I finally found it The lies are endless Just me alone, it really is lonely Let’s reload the warmth"

She's lying about her true feelings to become what this guy wants her to be. But she wants a child.

In Tear Drop, there's a scene where lights flash behind her. Pink, blue, pink, blue, pink, colors associated with child genders. A tear falls from her face, before the final flash. And the final flash is?

Four negative pregnancy tests.

This seems to me to parallel the balloon in Umbilical.

Four round balloons, but one heart. Four failed pregnancies, and one successful one.

She blew up this balloon herself. She wanted these balloons. And when she's falling at the end of the MV, it's her balloon that saves her.

We didn't listen to her.

Yuno doesn't think she's a bad girl for having an abortion. She thinks she's a bad girl because she killed the child she wanted.

Had a painful "lulling myself to sleep" AU about the Kryzes last night.

Bo-Katan gets pregnant at sixteen, and is in denial about it until about six or seven months in. She goes to the doctor for an unrelated thing and is informed that she's tested positive for a pregnancy.

(Her periods were always irregular and she wasn't showing much, so she just excused it as stress.)

Bo calls Satine, panicking to the point where she ditches work to come check on The Little Sister.

The doctor explains what's happening. Bo does not want to keep this baby but is far enough in to feel conflicted about aborting when the baby could theoretically survive in an incubator in a few weeks. She doesn't want to carry to term but she's torn about actually aborting. Satine is trying to talk her through it and promises to support whichever decision she makes, etc. All the good parent-sibling stuff.

The doctor offers a third option, which is removing the fetus to a cloning tube. It's not a common solution, but a Duchess can afford the process. Bo takes that option. The procedure happens. She recovers, but won't even look at the baby. Satine talks about raising the child herself, since she's An Entire Adult.

As soon as she's fully recovered, Bo-Katan runs away from home to Governor Vizsla's. Satine tries to convince her to come back, but Bo really wants to ignore the whole issue of her baby. She's staying away, thanks.

The baby is decanted. Satine names him Korkie. She considers claiming to be his mother, but that might put him in more danger, so she'll stick with the truth without telling anyone how he's her nephew.

TCW kicks off.

Korkie tries to joke about also being half-tube-child with the clones. They're confused enough that he has to actually explain his whole Baby Situation. Disaster lineage is cringing but with metaphorical popcorn.

I think Satine was probably 21-ish when Korkie was born.

Obi-Wan keeps insisting he's sure the timing doesn't work out for an Obitine baby. People are still suspicious.

Meta + Stephanie and the idea of having kids—

oh boy. you ready for a long ramble? i have a lot of. thoughts.

being a parent is not something that really pops until steph's head until she has a pregnancy scare. in the several verses i have established with steph i have varying thoughts on when this particular scare happens, but she has one before her senior year of high school. she's safe and responsible, but one late period sends her into a crisis and she immediately stops and buys four tests on the way home. to say that the ten minutes of waiting she is having a crisis the whole time is an understatement, steph's brain trying her best to think about how she would be a parent, what she would do, where she would go. the relief that she felt seeing a very clear negative was strong, but the thought linger on what if should it have been positive. her father's reaction to those four tests in the garbage, despite the fact that all of them of one line on them was enough for her to solidify the fact that she shouldn't be a parent--- her one parent that she had was far from supportive and cared for nothing save for him image, meanwhile her mother had hit the road when steph was just three years old, leaving both her only child and her husband behind. regardless of circumstances, what sort of mother would she be based on her example? she had no direction in her life, she had no idea what she would be doing out of high school- what could she offer to a child?

in verses where she has people around her who have kids and she gets to be around them, for a moment, steph is a little antsy at first but very quickly she starts to entertain the idea of maybe she would be a decent mom. she is in no rush though.

the worry and thought had never really left her head and when she's older, out of high school, probably out of college with a degree to her name, and maybe even a whole new last name, when it comes to taking another test again and there is two lines waiting for her it scares her a little, and it for sure is not planned, but she has a little more faith in herself and a lot more faith in her partner ( which im just going to say pete for this because i am in fact. lautski trash ) . the worry sits in the corner of her mind, but she also grows this determination to do better, to give more than what her parents had not. it's far from planned and she still is nervous but she gets more and more excited about it.

and with that in mind, after having a first, determined to make sure this kid does not feel alone, like she felt, despite knowing they will do ten times better, and knowing how pete has a brother and knows a bit about that she very quickly brings up the idea of having another that is a little more planned.

tldr it's a lot of fear and doubt in herself till she gets there or around people who have kids or with time and figuring out herself and working through uh. her childhood, and an accident happens and she slowly but surely gets excited to being to be a mom.

It's been one month since the KC Grand Championship. Annaleigh is not salty about her loss at all, and is grateful to Seto giving her a chance to show off her skills. Even if it was short lived.

She lets out a deep sigh as she makes her way up the steps to her apartment. Annaleigh hates the amount of stairs she has to climb to get to her home, but the rent in this building is cheap and the apartment is decent enough. The place is still kind of barren and devoid of personality, but it's slowly becoming a home.

Annaleigh stops at the top of the stairs, taking a moment to rest. Then, she walks down the hall that veered off the stairs.

Hazel green eyes stare in surprise as she spots the CEO, standing in front of her apartment, holding a light blue bag in his grasp. Cautiously, she makes her way up to him. Annaleigh wonders how long he's been waiting at her door for. "I'm sorry you had to wait out here. I wish you'd called me first. I just finished a shift at the game shop." She sighs softly.

"How did you find out where I live, anyway? I don't think I've ever mentioned it before." she questions. Annaleigh hasn't invited anyone from school over, so nobody knows where she lives. She's still a bit at odds with Yugi and friends. She wouldn't blame any of them if they hated her for her part in DOMA's plans.

A hand reaches into her red and black, plaid, unbuttoned, long-sleeved, shirts' side pocket for her apartment key. Underneath the top is a black Breaking Benjamin t-shirt. The shirt presses against her stomach, showing off the sixth month bump underneath it with a tiny baby growing inside. Paired with the shirt is a comfortable pair of dark jeans and black sneakers.

Getting a closer look at the bag, the pregnant woman notices that is says :: baby on it in Japanese writing. So that's why he's here. "Is this compensation for me losing your tournament?" she teases. Pulling out the key, she reaches for the door handle and puts the key inside, turning it. She turns the handle and pushes door open, revealing a stark, white walled apartment with very little furniture. There are a few personal items strewn about, but otherwise, the place is very empty.

Nathan and Samantha hooked up in their mid-teens and unbeknownst to her at the time— though she put two and two together in the days that followed —their hook-up was a ploy of Nathan's meant to make Rachel (who he was in an on again, off again situationship with at the time) jealous. From the hook-up, Samantha wound up pregnant.

Samantha told Nathan — and everything from that point on went downhill, as Nathan wanted nothing to do with her or their baby and he went as far as to tell his father and his father then paid her and her family to a. ) leave Nathan alone, and b. ) leave town because no son of his was going to tarnish the Prescott name and become a father in his teens, especially when he was meant to inherit everything. The Myers' did leave town and Samantha raised the baby on her own.

Nine months later, Samantha delivered the baby and named him Aiden and she gave him her last name.

Samantha raised Aiden on her own with little to no help from anybody, including her parents because neither of them were capable of being anything beside disappointed in her — because in their minds, they had big, big plans for her, and now with her being a mother, none of them were going to be achieved. As years passed, Aiden became a replica of his father, Nathan. Abrasive, introverted and volatile.

Because of her experience dealing with Nathan in her teens— thanks to their brief friendship —Samantha knows how to 'handle' Aiden for the most part and during his (what can only be described as) 'episodes', only Samantha is successful in getting through to Aiden.

In his late teens, Aiden begins to attempt to form a relationship with his father, and his half-sisters but for a while, it's difficult as years and years of Nathan acting as if he didn't exist and wanting nothing to do with him have made Aiden resentful of him.

Zelda "Ziggy" Adira Abrams didn’t have a real home until she was 12 years old. Her mother Miriam had her at just 16 years old, and the two lived in and out of homeless shelters, run-down apartments, and friends’ places throughout her childhood. Up until they moved into an actual home, she had never known anything other than moving around, being a nomad, herself, and her young mother.

Ziggy, named after Zelda Fitzgerald but nicknamed after the infamous David Bowie persona, was resigned to raising herself as well as her mother. She had to grow up and be an adult from a young age, from circling job ads in newspapers and making sure they made it to the shelter on time to get a room, or at least to eat. There was never any real room to be a child.

It was Ziggy and her mother alone for a good while, until when she was five years old. A five-year-old Ziggy had no idea why her mother’s body was changing, she just knew that sometime later they were inside a hospital, there was a baby in her arms, and then suddenly, there wasn’t. They walked out of the hospital, just her and her mother, alone again. Ziggy would learn many, many, many years later, that her mother gave her little sister up for adoption.

Ziggy learning to read and loving to read is credited to her mother in many ways, the first being that her mother would take her to the library during the day to keep warm and have something to do, and Ziggy needed an escape from everything. It started with princesses in high towers being rescued by their prince and turned into sometimes cheesy, but often thrilling, romance novels. Ziggy fell in love with love.

When they finally got a real home, it was only because her grandmother passed away, leaving the three-bedroom home to her only daughter, Ziggy, and her mother Miriam moved right in.

It was all rather the same Ziggy needed to raise both herself and her mother, except this time her mother had landed herself a job, a waitress at a diner at night. During the day, Ziggy would go to school, and a night her mother would head off to work, leaving the young girl alone to her own devices.

But ultimately, Miriam Abrams wasn’t the mother a young girl needed. She didn’t get the puberty talk, she wasn’t taught how to do her hair or makeup, these were all things she had to pick up from magazines. She learned to cook enough to feed herself, but she was barely allotted a childhood, having to be the adult her mother wasn’t. No pretty dresses or elaborate bat mitzvahs paid for by her mother's boyfriend could make up for it.

Ziggy left the first moment she could. With a high school diploma, 1,000$ to her name, and a bus ticket, she was off to California, as far away from her mother as she could possibly get.

Ziggy slept on couches again and worked odd jobs until she found something more permanent as a waitress, paying 30 dollars a night to sleep in a bedroom that had a curfew of 10:00 pm. She didn’t go to college. She had no direction whatsoever. She just wanted to experience life.

So experience she did, she lived in California, Seattle, and New York, and finally, she landed herself in Colorado, just her, her beat-up little jeep wrangler, her books, and a few garbage bags filled with clothes.

That was five years ago now, and Ziggy has been the happiest, and the most stable she's ever been. She's got a dream job as a barista at the Green Thumb, reading, and writing romance novels in her free time. It's her dream to be published, to walk into a library and see her name amongst her favorites, but for now, just writing them is enough. She lives in Artist's Alley Apartments in RINo and has an orange Maine Coon cat named Papaya. She still has no idea what she's doing, but she's happy and having fun trying to figure it out. She sends her mother money once a month.

It wasn’t just them who felt the terror of it, the doctor who had delivered him and the nurse present too also felt it – until eventually a cry left his little body. It was then that he was jokingly nicknamed the quiet one in contrast to his older brothers, which he seemed to embody tenfold as he grew up. With both little interest and little skill in most sports, he only ever found himself partaking in them because his brothers or his friends were. He could kick a football, catch a basketball and swing for a baseball, but there was never a guarantee that it would advance his teammates in any of the games he was playing, which was why he never found himself playing for any sort of team. His mind had always been the muscle he liked to work the most, and he was drawn to anything with a screen from as early as he was allowed access one.

It had been Lucky that had inadvertently become live in tech support for his family, always eager and willing to take whatever device was malfunctioning and see if he could teach himself how to fix it. It was a skill that only flourished more in his teen years, and seemed to work in tandem with the subjects he excelled at it in school – namely math and sciences.

It was clear to everyone around him that it was a thread he would follow into a career, which was how he found himself with a litany of offers from universities when the time came. It had always been his intention to go somewhere close to home, solely because he didn't want to leave the network of people he had around him. When he was accepted into a university in London after applying without ever thinking entry was a possibility that threw a spanner in those plans.

It was the combination of this news and his father confirming that after months of fights and hostility in the household, he would be divorcing Lucky's mother after finding out confirmation of her having an affair that Lucky found himself at a crossroads. Stay and try fix the ever deepening fracture in his family, or go and try to make something of his life without being weighed down by everyone around him.

Selfishly, he chose the latter.

The move to London was a difficult but necessary one for him so he told himself, and despite it all being his choice he missed his family dearly – or at least he missed the idea of his family, the one that existed before a bitter divorce had changed the landscape of it. No matter how long he stayed gone, the guilt of not being a part of his daughter's life ate him alive and only increased with time. Partying in college soon became a need rather than a way to let off steam, with both his drinking and his recreational drug use spiraling out of control until he almost flunked out in his third year. Gradually, he got himself back on the rails, but he still has to think about it before he takes a drink or accepts a line at a club.

During holidays and summer breaks, he chose to travel around Europe than to ever come home. There were too many ghosts there and too much he wasn't ready for. However, after having graduated and finally decided that England wasn't where he was going to start the next stage of his life, his decision on where he was meant to be and what he was supposed to do was made easy for him after a revelation from his best friend back home. The then four year old child that she had had after a one night stand between the pair was his, despite previous denials. The news was earth-shattering in its own way and it lead him straight back to the town that had raised him so he could help raise his daughter.

He may have flown the nest successfully, but there was some part of him that was still a home bird.

rofl, so now more than ever, let's talk about a juno kinda inspired, teen pregnancy AU for penelope and joey.

then later, fckin' TEACHER/SINGLE PARENT AU for drew and reby.

the good cheerleader girl who likes heavy music winds up on the wrong side of a party and ends up hooking up with the absolute worst bad boy in the entire school because they've both had a little too much to drink and shocker, when you're plastered, you don't really think about a condom in a tiny half bathroom at someone's mom's house.

penelope is terrified that her parents are going to disown her, that her friends are going to leave her, that everything is going to go completely upside down, meanwhile joey isn't listening to a word she's fucking saying because he just found out that he's gonna be a dad, and she plans on keeping the baby, and even if they had the conversation about alternative things to do, he also can't stomach the idea of losing his child, even if this child wasn't planned, even if, even if, even if. so, they keep it a secret. for a long time. hell, half the time they act like they hardly know each other. it's wildly unhealthy, and it doesn't help them come together as parents at all, but as she gets further along and as things progress, joey begins to give a real damn about penelope to the point that he finds himself in fights with football players that made comments about penelope's body changing and her gaining weight. penelope finds herself defending joey verbally to her friends and the teachers she knows and loves, wanting to make sure that he doesn't get expelled or any horrible abuses from her friends. they only tell people when the baby is almost here. and even then, they don't tell everyone. penelope's parents were furious, joey's mom was ready to adopt the baby if completely necessary, penelope's friends were Less than Pleased with her choices in life and joey's friends thought it meant he sold out to the higher crowd. it was all a mess. penelope wishes she just would've come home with the baby without explanation.

joey steals the cutest fucking gender-neutral clothes from target. penelope is angry at first because obviously, she doesn't want to dress her baby in something that's been stolen, but goddamnit, he really does have pretty decent taste and the clothes he steals are absolutely adorable. he tries to encourage penelope to steal some on her own time and she contemplates it, but she's just too much of a goody two shoes to ever go along and do it. that baby has so many cute band shirts, leather jackets, and everything that feels so very much Joey. when they find out that they're having a little girl, penelope is DELIGHTED and joey's world turns upside down because he has the harsh reality check of "fuck, what if there's someone out there like me that tries to fuck around with MY daughter?" and he automatically becomes so much more insanely protective that it's kind of adorable.

that baby inspires joey to get his shit together, in the best way. like, he starts attending class. he starts giving a fuck. he talks to doctors about his adhd and tries to find ways to make school and everything else in the world more bearable. he wants to pass, and to succeed-- he wants to be able to provide for his little girl and give him everything in the world. he wants to be one hell of a dad, and he also wants to make sure that he doesn't leave her too soon in life because he knows that pain and anguish, so he finds himself falling out of drugs and heavy drinking because who fucking knows how long he'd last with that combination.

somewhere along the way, pen and joey fall madly and deeply in love. like it's blatant, but they're both still so young and going through so much that neither one says anything to the other. especially after their daughter is born and they get to see each other with her, it's damn near impossible for their hearts to not explode like confetti balloons. it isn't until one night where penelope leaves the baby with joey and his mom to go out on a date where joey finally snaps and says something. penelope is fucking shook to her core and is torn-- because part of her is ANGRY at him for never saying anything until now, and the other part is so overwhelmed because she feels very much the same way, but it's such a romeo/juliet situation where they shouldn't be together, their families wouldn't want them to be together (except joey's mom would love it), but still. penelope winds up leaving her date early and comes home and lays a big ol' kiss on joey. from then on, they start dating.

joey fucking graduates. he passes high school, mostly through sheer determination and will of wanting to prove something to himself and to penelope and his daughter that anything is possible. penelope graduates with honors as the cheer captain, and she does some corny ass speech at graduation about surprises and good things coming even when you don't expect them. but now there's the conversation of college and life after high school and whether or not it will go well.... WELL!!!

imagine a scenario where drew is the teacher at some school, and reby is a freshly single parent. no one really knows why, no one really knows... anything, but they know reby-- she was the prime PTA mom, the one who was involved in everything, was making sure that the school that she paid insane money for covered things that were important. she went from like Thee Mom of the school to coming back after summer vacation just a shell of who she was, and maxel is in mr. gulak's class for the year and :)

reby, as always, trying to go above and beyond-- to provide for the class, to provide for her kids, to make sure that the teacher knows how appreciated she is. so she learns things about him from maxel, and around the holidays, she sends him little hanukkah gifts that let her know how grateful she is that her son is with such a wonderful person. she regularly sends him snacks and things, especially on friday's. making sure that mr. gulak actually ate breakfast, otherwise sending him bagels and coffee. she practically funds all the school field trips without the other parents even having to get involved, partially because she wants the best for her son, but partially because she just wants drew to be able to be the teacher he deserves to be, without any restrictions holding him back.

every time they have a parent-teacher meeting, their conversations will go on for hours. the first time it was interrupted by the next family, but the following time, they made sure to schedule their's as the last for the night and they just stayed and talked and got to know each other and talked and talked and talked. drew went in feeling as though he learned nothing new about reby every time, whereas he exposed everything about himself that he could within reasonable comfort. he could tell she was guarded, and not once did they ever discuss her separation from matt, what had led to her downfall, anything. but amazingly, he was one of the only ones who never asked. even more so, he was the one who didn't really care. he treated her how he would've treated her in any other scenario, as he had in the past when he only knew her as a PTA mom that would burn down the school if it meant making sure her children were taken care of and provided for in the way she so desired.

maxel is what leads to them meeting outside of a school setting, because he's interested in mat wrestling and drew teaches at a local school. little does reby know that when she's taking maxel to this first class, drew will be there. and it's a different drew, it's not the teacher with the nice clothes and the fat ass that's about to bust the buttons on his slacks, but drew in workout gear and relaxed and you can ~ SEE THINGS ~ and she finds herself having to actually leave the facility for a minute to gather her thoughts because he's somehow even hotter??? than she'd ever realized, and he was already REALLY FUCKING HOT. so now, reby's seen him in two wonderful settings, and she gets nailed in the head with a third when she realizes that maxel truly fucking loves learning from him, like so much-- and that maxel outright asked him if he'd be willing to teach him how to play guitar, since mr. gulak had done it before in class. which means a WHOLE 'NOTHER DAY OF THEM BEING TOGETHER OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. maxel knows what he's doing.

drew comes to their house for guitar lessons, and eevee automatically takes to him, when she doesn't take to anybody. she's generally very much Gothic Baby and stands to the side, unimpressed, not sure with anyone, but for some reason, from out the gate, she's absolutely obsessed with him and won't leave him alone. so he'll be there, trying to teach maxel guitar while gothic baby is sitting on the ground right by him looking up at him with so much amazement and love in her eyes. one night, reby offers to make him dinner after giving him his payment (which he asked for fucking nickels and dimes) and drew finally accepts, and they stay up all night talking. the boys and eevee eventually go to bed (eevee fell asleep on drew), but reby and drew stay up all night long talking about everything and anything under the sun. their passions, their loves, their families, and eventually even matt. drew discusses his own exes, his own faults, his own everything-- it's a super deep, super intimate conversation and reby tries to make him stay the night but he's a fucking Gentleman and doesn't do it, but insists that he's able to take her out and get to do this the proper way, the way she deserves.

they go on dates. they fall in love. everything is beautiful and magical and wonderful and a complete perfect fairytale dream. there is no negative. they're absolutely perfect for one another, and they raise her kids as if they're his. they become such perfect, honest, noble little people and eventually, drew proposes and eevee CRIES out of jealousy lmao. their wedding is a complete DIY situation but it's done on the first day of summer vacation because they're both absolutely psychotic. they wind up opening a music school in the same town, one where she teaches piano and drew teaches guitar. they're both insanely involved in the school still. they love each other unconditionally. it's absolutely perfect and a dream and :) amen.
