The fact that a post I put on Facebook talking about #taketheknee at 6pm this evening instantly got an "all lives matter!" comment with a picture asking why people didn't 'riot' over the murder of Lee Rigby (completely ignoring how the perpetrators were immediately arrested and there was a ton of media coverage) , only one other girl commented helping me explain to him why he shouldn't say that phrase and how the Lee Rigby situation was different. She said she would also be kneeling which was nice. A couple of people liked my post including my neighbour.

So I went out just before 6 to kneel. Was my neighbour there? Nope. Was there anyone else kneeling? Nope. I am assuming that the girl who commented probably did kneel and I just couldn't see her house from mine because I don't know her address but she seemed very passionate about it. It's just depressing that everyone was out clapping and banging pots and pans together every Thursday like clockwork for the NHS but next to no one kneeled to show respect for a man murdered by a racist police force and solidarity to all the protestors in America being fucking beaten, shot at, and tear gassed for peacefully protesting. Obviously people knew about it, for example my neighbour, but they still didn't do it. I'm not going to hold it against her obviously because it's up to her and as far as I know she's anti-racist. But it would have been nice to see more people. Any people! I saw no-one.

So I was kneeling on my driveway on my own. I'm ashamed to say that I hid behind one of the cars while I kneeled because I was embarrassed to be doing it alone and there was a bunch of rowdy lads playing football. But at least I fucking did it. Because complacency gets us nowhere. I'm also going to a protest in my town on Saturday hopefully (don't worry I'm not in the states so I should be safe) so I'm just really hoping that that gets a better turn out than #taketheknee did.
