Found the fic Take Back the Kingdom by @impossiblefangirl0632 and @optimistic-violinist and proceeded to read it like five times in about two weeks? And it's amazing, you should read it. It's about the Encanto being a mythical kingdom like Atlantis or El Dorado and the grandkids being sent to modern times and then finding each other (and also Bruno) without remembering each other at first. Lots of feels, lots of magic, lots of hurt and lots of comfort.
There was a description of a ceremonial robe that Mirabel made in chapter 27 and I had to get the concept of it on paper. There was a mention of sigils and/or symbols, but I didn't know what they might look like so I didn't add them. I did add beading, but it might be hard to see.

AT LONG LAST
The final confrontation.
:::
Time stood still.
Every part of Mirabel trembled as the maelstrom of her grief pushed her further and further under the waves.
Someone was screaming. It might be her. She didn’t know.
This was all her fault.

Summary: On the last day before they reach the gates Bruno teaches Mirabel a spell and confides in Isabela and Dolores.
~~~
It was disgustingly early when someone shook Mirabel awake.
“Hm? Wh—”
“Sh, it’s just me,” Bruno whispered. “Come on, wake up. It’s time for another magic lesson.”
While that did pique Mirabel’s curiosity, she felt like she was entitled to complain a little bit more as she grabbed her glasses and got to her feet. “Did it have to be before dawn or is that just, like, a personal preference?”
“I don’t sleep. You should know this by now. Now come on.”
She followed her uncle into the forest and watched as his eyes gleamed for a brief moment as he looked around.
“Perfect. This will do.” He took a seat on the ground and gestured for her to sit across from him.
“So,” she said, rubbing her hands together eagerly, her earlier grumpiness quickly evaporating. “What are we learning today?”
i wish that there was more time between the day of black sun and sozin's comet bc zuko's official desertion from the fire nation would have the most insane ripple effects (and it would be nice to see the gaang interacting a bit more than we got but hey i'll take what i can get)
zuko's desertion would have been essentially impossible for the fire nation to bury since it was such a big deal that he returned at all. so i imagine the smear campaign against zuko would have been craaazy. i think it would have been interesting for the gaang to try and deal with that when navigating the FN. zuko would be very recognisable i think at this point, and it would have made staying hidden much harder. would they still have chosen ember island? maybe the kids didn't recognise zuko and azula during The Beach , but with the prince of the fire nation committing treason would there be more wanted posters? would there be more talk around the island? would zuko have to remain hidden while the rest go out and get food?
i wonder if zuko deserting and very meaningly committing his loyalty to the avatar influenced other soldiers in the FN to also desert? or would it have had the opposite effect and made people feel more patriotic since zuko was banished, returned under the guise of having killed the avatar, and then left when aang announced his survival to world during the failed invasion?
SPEAKING OF THAT!! the rumours around this would be INSANE. we know what really happened, but the public don't. did zuko and the avatar plan this so that there would be an inside man during the invasion and then zuko used that chaos to escape? what really happened in ba sing se if zuko didn't kill aang, but azula thought that he did? (again: we, the audience know the truth, but the general public don't). if zuko and the avatar where working together... for how long? was iroh involved somehow since he also disappeared the same time that zuko did? did iroh get captured on purpose to be close to zuko to possibly help him if needed? did zuko break iroh out of jail or did one of the guards or was iroh alone? you could spiral on this as just an average person in the avatar world for years like. if youtube existed in atla imagine the video essays breaking down all the conspiracies
its a kids show so obviously Nothing Bad Happened BUT in the Boiling Rock, zuko getting found out as not only an imposter (already, a very bad situation), a traitor (extremely bad), AND the traitorous (ex) prince of the fire nation (devastatingly terrible) would have been... incredibly dangerous for zuko. in zuko and iroh's original wanted poster, the official translation says “Permission is granted to kill them on sight” and this was before zuko has gone right ahead and committed Treason On Purpose. the warden is not going to be nice. when the warden visits zuko in his cell he literally tells him "If these criminals found out who you are, the traitor prince who let his nation down, why they'd tear you to shreds." the boiling rock would be hell trying to survive. it also puts a lot more weight on zuko refusing to leave sokka in their first escape attempt. also ozai obviously knew that he has his son was in prison bc he... broke in to the prison bc azula was there but then zuko manages to escape with sokka (another imposter) and suki and hakoda (POWs) and chit sang (a prisoner) and two of azula's trusted friends end up in prison for treason as well i just. that is literally insane for the average person to hear about. again, THE CONSPIRACIES!!
when zuko eventually does take the throne there's a lot of conjecture around what zuko did while he was banished and moreso, what he did the second time he left, this time voluntarily. i think zuko's loyalty would be questioned a lot; by other world leaders who are understandably wary about the fire nation and its motivations, but also by its own people - some who believe that zuko is a traitor to his country and is trying to sabotage it since he helped end the war.
idk these are all just me rambling but it would been so interesting to explore the implications of zuko leaving the fire nation and how that would have impacted the gaang and how they interacted with others in their travels. there are so many fic where zuko joins the gaang early, but neither myself with the aus that I have written, nor many that ive read have explored this very much or at all.
Respectfully, anyone who believes that Roxas shouldn't have come back in kh3 is wrong and also doesn't know how to make a satisfying end to a characters narrative.
I could maybe forgive thinking Naminé or Xion shouldn't have returned, as they at least got to make the informed decision to return to their counterparts themselves. It would still be wrong but I can at least forgive it.
But Roxas? His entire story is about being allowed to be yourself regardless of what anyone else around you says you should be. It doesn't/shouldn't matter if he comes from Sora, because he is someone else entirely. It's his life, not Sora or anyone elses. Having a story like that end with him being violently forced to return to Sora when he doesn't even know anything about what's going on is flat out bad writing.
Did he accept that he had to die for Sora? Well, sure, but only after getting to beat him within an inch of his life. Only reason he accepts it is because he literally has no other choice but to. He can't keep clinging to the anger and misery at his circumstances forever.
And, you know, it probably helps that the person this was all for also fucking hates it. In no way is Sora happy about what happened to Roxas. Of course he'd bring him back, it's Sora. The situation is so unfair and tragic that having it end with him just staying in Sora forever would literally go against the essence of the entire series.
Kingdom Hearts is, at it's core, a series about bonds. Roxas was established basically immediately as having very important bonds! His best friend literally died for him! He has friends that don't even know it because it was another version of them, but they still feel that bond to him anyway! You really think they should've just thrown away a character whose bonds transcended the boundaries between data and reality just like that? Get real.
zelda and link’s house has stores of various hyrulean herbs and plants scattered about. a bundle of dried swift violets hanging by a window, for brewing into teas on days where one of both of them don’t quite have the energy to do their daily errands. crates of endura shrooms and stamella shrooms for making into stir-fry, for days when just getting out of bed is proving difficult. hearty truffles for times when the wear of the last century becomes too much for tired bones to bear. zelda will find herself in the hateno general store picking out various ingredients, and the inn keeper who just so happens to be stocking up on milk will notice, and she will jot down tried and true recipes that will be sure to soothe link’s aching joints.
Broken Warp Pipe AU
Based off of a concept by @multicolour-ink and @wiz-witch where the warp pipe in Brooklyn breaks down, leaving Mario and Luigi stranded separate dimensions: X.
From there I just went off the rails.
Tumblr media
Mario (Brooklyn Side)
Mario has not stopped working toward finding a way to The Mushroom Kingdom since he and Luigi were separated, and has run himself ragged in the process.
He started off trying to discover if there is a working warp pipe somewhere else in the world. After all, if there was one just under their noses in Brooklyn, surely there’s another somewhere! He just needs to search, and search hard.
He’s always on the move, working some side-gigs to stay afloat while spending every second of free time pursuing and studying warp pipes. He eats bad, sleeps bad, and even smokes sometimes when he’s sleep deprived and can’t focus (though he always feels guilty about it afterward. Luigi would NOT approve.)
Mario hates being alone, but spends most of his time alone, because he feels that’s what he deserves at this point. He’s reached so many dead ends he feels like he’s already failed his brother, but refuses to slow down all the same.
When he’s feeling particularly hopeless or lonely, sometimes he talks to nobody as though he’s talking to Luigi. This helps a little.
He calls his family every couple of months to let them know he’s okay, and to see if there’s any sign that the Brooklyn warp pipe is working again. These phone calls are brief, and he never properly explains where he is or what he’s doing.
 Mario has stolen (and usually returned) many ancient artifacts and documents, and broken into many a location trying to uncover a warp pipe. He hasn’t hurt anyone, but his impatience and determination has earned him a bit of a criminal record in the human world.
In his travels, Mario found one or two working warp pipes, but they led to weird alternative dimensions not even close to The Mushroom Kingdom. He has done some heroism in these places whenever the situation presents itself (he’s still a good guy), and has been rewarded with helpful information about warp pipes and how they work.
Through knowledge he gleaned from his travels, combined his own advanced skills with traditional plumbing, Mario eventually pieces together how to repair warp pipes, which he uses to fix his own pipe back in Brooklyn.
Tumblr media
Luigi (Mushroom Kingdom Side)
When Mario first got trapped in Brooklyn, Luigi desperately tried to fill his brother’s shoes until he returned. When Bowser inevitably reattempted to destroy The Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi tried to channel his brother by taking the tyrant on alone. He was very nearly killed as a result. DK, Toad, and Peach successfully fended off Bowser in the end, but Luigi was left physically and emotionally scarred in a way he has not quite recovered from.
Luigi still does his best to be a hero despite everything, but is only barely functional unless he has someone backing him up. Princess Peach sticks close to him whenever possible, and Toad is ecstatic to have him as a friend and adventuring buddy.
 Luigi has an official place on the Toad Brigade, and is happiest when he’s doing missions with them.
He eventually develops into one of the most formidable heroes in the dimension, especially after he gains the powers of the thunder hand. He rarely gets recognition for this though, because he very much does not behave like the traditional hero, and far prefers the sidekick position. He wouldn’t have it any other way.
Luigi does not spend a lot of time in his and Mario’s house, save to keep it clean and tidy. He has not moved any of his brothers things, except to keep them dusted. A part of him still holds out hope that he’ll be back one day.
Princess Peach hooked Luigi up with an apprenticeship with Professor E. Gadd during one of his slumps, and he spends most of his nights sleeping over at the lab. The professor is happy to have him around; Luigi keeps the place so neat and organized, and makes the best cup of coffee!
Though they have some wardrobe changes, both Mario and Luigi have their original hats, and are extremely protective of them.
My very humble contribution to @encanto-extended-edition Week 4 - Share the Love!
For @impossiblefangirl0632 and @optimistic-violinist's OC, the fabulous pirate captain Razili Edel, from their amazing epic modern fantasy adventure AU Take Back the Kingdom, their Encantober shorts 'To Fall Apart, To Reunite', and their upcoming fic featuring the story of Razili and Bruno (check them out on ao3!).
I seriously adore Bruno and Razili. Their story, their relationship, their dynamic - it hits all the right notes for me. 🥺😭❤🥰
Thanks for sharing your fabulous OC and one of my favorite stories of all time. ❤
Summary:
Things can always get worse.
Describe your own personal hell.
Is it a place? A memory? A person who wronged you?
How did you escape? If you did anyway.
Sometimes hell is a place and sometimes you carry it with you.
For Bruno, it was both.
And for the second time in his life, José had trapped him there.
Trigger warnings: torture, non-explicit threats of torture/rape
TBTK Valentine’s day side story
So. Forever ago @optimistic-violinist and I mentioned that we had this whole other Bruno x OC story to tell in the Take Back the Kingdom universe. Here’s a bit of it for those who were interested in reading it. (We’re working on the next chapter of TBTK. Writer’s block and Life happened)
“Oh come on! You have to do something for your first Valentine’s Day together!”
Bruno sighed, resigned to his fate. “I really shouldn’t have to remind you of all people that neither of us are Christian.” He jabbed the quill into the inkwell before glaring half-heartedly at Mulligan’s pathetically over-exaggerated pleading face. The kid really wasn’t going to leave him alone until Bruno heard him out was he?
Scooting his chair back from the desk, he sighed, feigning a much more put on attitude than he actually felt. “Go on then,” he folded arms over his chest, leaning back. “Why should we care about this one saint’s feast day?”
“Well first off, you’re the one that said it wouldn’t always be a Christian holiday. You said it’s going to turn into ‘a non-religious commercialized nonsensical nightmare’.”
Bruno gave him a flat look. “That doesn’t help your augment.”
Mulligan’s eye twitched. “What I’m saying is, I think you should ignore the fact that it's technically a religious holiday and just take the excuse to do something nice for your wife.” His shoulders sank as Bruno’s instinctual dread rose.
The young man rubbed the back of his neck. “Look, time is precious. We’re not in the safest of professions, and we all just want you two to be happy—” the unspoken ‘for as long as you can’ hung in the air with more weight than an executioner's blade. Both men couldn’t help but glance towards the direction of the infirmary where some of their crew mates were still recovering from their last skirmish.
All encompassing dread filled him at the reminder of the lurking agony he knew was coming when he inevitably outlived her.
Clearing his suddenly thick throat he offered Mulligan a tight smile. “You may have a point there Mulligan.” He brought his chair back to the desk and dropped his chin onto his clasped knuckles, elbows resting on the varnished wood surface. “And knowing you, am I right you already have a plan?”
Mulligan smirked, “Captain! I planned both of your weddings. Of course I have a plan for this.”
:::
Mulligan’s plan, as it turned out, had been a joint venture with the rest of the crew.
In the grand pirate tradition of making up plays, that evening found them watching a play their crew had titled ‘A Tale of Lost Bets and Eternal Frustration.’ Also known as, ‘The Lovers Dance Through the Eyes of Their Crew.’
Razili turned to him, whispering in his ear. “Did you know about this?”
Bruno shook his head, threading his fingers through hers without looking. “Nope.” He stifled a laugh and leaned to whisper, “Who do you think lost the most money betting on us?”
She gave him an amused side eye. “Probably the one who suggested we get married and use the wedding as a trap for our enemies.”
They both looked at Mulligan, happily reenacting his first day on the ship and the wager he’d apparently made about them while O’Connel and Evelyn reenacted Bruno and Razili’s spar.
As the scene continued Evelyn disarmed her husband, the resultant look on O’Connel’s face making Bruno’s eyebrows climb higher. “We weren’t that bad were we?”
The crew members around them made disgusted noises of disbelief. “Worse. Much, much worse.”
:::
Late that night they sat in the crow’s nest, Bruno’s arm around Razili’s shoulders with her head pillowed over his heart, both of them watching the stars go by.
“Today was nice,” Bruno murmured, interrupting the comfortable silence.
She turned her head to look at him. “You think so?”
He nodded, lost in thought and the stars.
She shifted so her head was on his shoulder.
He blinked and looked down, meeting her eyes. “Do you?”
She smiled softly, “Yeah, I do.”
They moved at the same time, their lips meeting in the middle in a tender kiss.
After they broke apart Razili’s smile grew mischievous. “So, Valentine’s Day, is that something we’re going to celebrate now?”
Bruno rolled his eyes fondly. “I don’t need a specific day to appreciate how much I love you. But—” His eyes grew softer as she tucked herself into his side once more.
He exhaled deeply and lied, “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to celebrate a day that’s for remembering you.”
