Meta: Jemily Queerbaiting
With the huge influx of posts saying 'Jemily is gonna be canon', I really appreciated seeing this post because OP was completely correct. I didn't want to write an entire dissertation as a reply, so I'm making my own post with my personal opinion on this. (All sources are noted in footnotes)
Before I began this rant, for anyone who thinks this is anti-Jemily. It is not. I have shipped Jemily for 18 friggin years and that's never going to change. This post is specifically my thoughts about queer baiting.
First off, I need to note that the showrunners (and the cast members who use social media) KNOW what a huge queer following this show has and that's why we got pansexual Tara Lewis in S16 [1]. Which, in itself, was SOOOOOOO important!!! Our first canonically queer main in SIXTEEN seasons was a middle-aged Black woman!!! That's phenomenal. (The fact it was horrible rep, because they instantly ruined her relationships once her queerness served it's plot point is a whole other post entirely)
In my opinion, the 'big Jemily moment' Paget posted about on Twitter [2] (and AJ hinted at during a recent IG live) is simply queerbaiting to get people to watch S17. I know a lot of you are newer to the fandom and I love your enthusiasm, I really do, ship and let ship, but listen, let's be real, Jemily is not going to be made canon. The showrunners aren't going to suddenly say (after 17 seasons) 'Surprise, Jemily is endgame'. This show has never cared about queer rep and now that CBS/Paramount have already ticked their queer rep box with Tara, they won't be in any rush to add any other characters to it.
Please buckle in, I've got a lot of thoughts on this matter --
What is Queerbaiting?
If you aren't aware of what queerbaiting is, here's a good definition:
Historically, queerbaiting has carried two meanings: the first is an act of aggressive heterosexuality to shut down queer subtext on screen while still teasing and catering to the queer audience in advertising, public relations, and fan engagement strategies; the second is an existing homoerotic tension between two characters played up on screen while met with derision by the professionals behind the scenes. [3]
The Medium article quoted here is from 2017, a time when parasocial relationships were really starting to take over social media. In 2024, actors are now only a mention or tag away online, they have direct conversations with fans, and this process has allowed for an even deeper form of queerbaiting.
Oftentimes online, actors are asked directly about certain ships and while some ignore these questions (usually to avoid breaking their contracts or other repercussions), others (looking at you, Paget) choose to instead tease fans about queer ships. She's done this for years upon years and if I've learned anything in the past twenty-years of existing in fandom spaces it's this -- don't hold your breath. In it's original meaning, for something to be deemed as queerbaiting there had to be malicious, or at least, purposeful intent to string queer fans along by teasing them with suggestive content about the ship in question, while knowing this ship will never come to fruition in canon.
The thing to remember is, Paget and AJ aren't the only ones who know about Jemily shippers -- the network and showrunners are well aware of this ship too. When networks/showrunners figure out they have a strong sapphic fanbase, they love to use that to their advantage to get more viewers and higher ratings. Queerbaiting is a goldmine to keep fans watching long running shows, look at Rizzoli and Isles, Supergirl, and OUAT for examples of this.
Jemily and Queerbaiting:
Ever since Emily joined the BAU in S2 (2006), there have always been fans who ship JJ/Emily (shoutout to the old LJ forums!). Way before celebs were just a tweet away from fans, back when all our fics began with disclaimers so we wouldn't get sued by networks, we went to great lengths to keep our fanworks far removed from actors/showrunners attention.
As far as Jemily goes, this reply from Paget in a 2009 interview with TVGuide.com [4] (which has now been deleted from their site unfortunately, but there are quotes on Tumblr still [4.a]) confirmed some fans' worst fear -- the actors had found our fanworks online.
TVGuide.com: Of course, a band of fans want her to hook up with Hotch.
Brewster: I know! I didn't realize that fans make these videos on YouTube? A.J. Cook sent me a hilarious one that made it look like Prentiss and J.J. were having a secret lesbian affair. You know, when Hotch was blown up in the SUV, we shot this scene where he's in the hospital and I'm standing next to him, looking at his bleeding ear. Our director came in and said, "Paget, you're looking at Hotch like you're in love with him. It looks really weird." So now, every day, Thomas [Gibson] and I flutter our eyelids at each other.
This was the first time I recall anyone acknowledging Jemily shippers publicly and at the time (Jan 2009), the show was still in Season Four (just before CBS fired both AJ and Paget [5]). Paget genuinely said it's 'hilarious' that fans shipped JJ/Emily. Even now, I'll see people say 'We know Paget and AJ have seen Jemily fanvids, so they obviously ship it too' -- but those same people rarely acknowledge the full context of the original answer. Paget not only thought JJ/Emily were 'hilarious', but then she doubled down and turned her reply back to how she and Thomas liked to play up the chemistry between Emily/Hotch.
While no one can say for sure which video it was that AJ sent Paget, just knowing they were watching JJ/Emily fanvids sent a bit of a shockwave through the femslash side of the fandom. To some it felt like an invasion of privacy, fanworks are by fans for fans -- knowing the cast were poking around in fandom spaces added an extra layer of worry around what we fans were posting online. Fifteen years ago, it used to be quite taboo for actors to outwardly discuss shipping or other fanon for whatever show they were in, and we fans were usually comfortably removed from the actors altogether.
Of course, now it's the norm for fans and actors/showrunners to co-exist online and interact with one another. This connection has opened new ways for shows to queerbait their fans. Pretty much every show has some form of social media account now and there is no doubt that the people running those accounts keep up with the most popular ships and hashtags. Not to mention that actors are constantly barraged with questions about whether they ship their character with x,y,z, or whether they think a ship should be made canon, etc. These interactions only serve to benefit the shows themselves, because whether the conversation is for or against a certain ship, it's all just free publicity (Why do you think CM now has a TikTok account?)
Every time AJ or Paget say anything about Jemily, the queer side of the fandom loses their minds. But this has been going on for YEARS now and every single time, it turns out to be nothing but social media hype and queerbaiting. Remember this AJ post? [6] Or what about the notorious reply by Paget to a fan, where she talks about how she and AJ held hands under the table 'for the shippers' [7] I've seen this cycle over and over again, so perhaps I am cynical, but I'm not getting my hopes up that Jemily will ever seriously be canon.
It's widely known now, after both Kirsten [8] and Paget [9] have talked about it, that there was an early idea where Prentiss was supposed to be queer, but that was ultimately scraped before it ever made it on screen. For context, please remember, this show has been airing for nearly twenty years. It began in 2005, during the highly conservative Bush administration. Queer people didn't have rights in the US, we couldn't get married, we were rarely protected under discrimination laws, and we could even be fired for simply being queer (in some states). Diverse queer representation on screen was extremely limited to things like 'The L Word' and 'Queer as Folk' (both aired on Showtime, so they were behind a paywall. And as far as tLw goes, that show was extremely male-gaze focused and is horrible in nearly all regards if you try to rewatch it now). As far as prime time shows went, queer rep was even more rare. Which is why Emily wasn't queer from the get-go.
Yes, things have changed since 2006 in terms of queer rep on TV. We have a myriad of queer identities represented in TV and film nowadays, which is why I think it's so easy for newer fans to say 'lf she was supposed to be gay anyway, they should just make Emily queer in canon!' I know this is what fuels most fans' demands for Emily being confirmed queer, and I get it, I DO. I would be all for it! However, I do not, in one hundred years, actually believe that is going to happen after they already canonically queer confirmed Tara in S16. The fact we even got ONE queer character is ground-breaking for this show.
It's also worth noting, that in the time between Paget's departure in 2012 and her return in 2016, she became very active on Twitter. This was when more and more fans began asking her about Jemily and after Kirsten's AfterEllen interview, fans also pushed for Paget to address the possibility of Emily being gay. 'Pushed' is actually an understatement for some of the outright harassment she would receive. (AJ received some of this harassment too, but less so because she doesn't use social media ass often) Back then, neither of them replied to these things directly. Yet, no matter what either woman posted, the replies were full of Jemily stans begging for her acknowledgement. (Did you know 'stan' is literally a term coined for stalker fans?) I remember one time AJ's friend was missing and she posted info on her IG about it, you know what the replies were? People asking her about Jemily. It was genuinely sickening.
Within this context, it was no surprise to fans when Emily came back in S12 , she and JJ's friendship was seemingly erased. The two women were rarely on screen together in the late seasons, plus the writers saw fit to even give Emily not only one (Mark in London, but two, on-screen boyfriends for the first time in the entire series. I personally do not think these changes to Emily's character were coincidence, I saw the hellscape of what people would say to AJ and Paget online and I fully believe that upon Paget's return to the show, the showrunners purposely tried to distance JJ and Emily to dissuade the more abusive side of the fanbase.
Can I prove that, no. But it is the only reason I can think of as to why Emily S12+ seemingly didn't care about JJ anymore, despite their deep and meaningful friendship. I mean, they both CROSSED THE WORLD to go rescue each other in prior canon -- but when Emily comes back, they acted like they barely knew each other. This was even more prevalent in S16, when JJ's main storylines all revolved around Will, and Emily barely looked at JJ in the entirety of ten episodes. (Remember how Prentiss didn't even hug JJ after bomb, but she did go hug Luke?)
So, do Paget and AJ earnestly ship Jemily, or are they continuing the long tradition of queerbaiting us? Who fucking knows, not me. But based on the history of this fandom, I think I can make a safe bet. (Interestingly, if you search all of Paget's twitter for the word 'Jemily' [10] she only has 3 direct tweets mentioning the ship. I don't think it's a coincidence that two are within the past few months since they started filming S17 (the other one was a RT of Kirsten (who tagged something Jemily)
This is all to say --
Just because Paget and AJ have publicly talked about Jemily,, this doesn't mean it's ever going to happen on screen. And you know what, THAT'S OKAY!! There has been this constant outcry (after Tara became queer confirmed) of 'Do Emily next' or 'Why wasn't it Emily with a girlfriend!?' and 'Jemily needs to be canon in S17!' -- as if people believe their ships aren't worth anything unless they are canon.
That couldn't be further from the truth! Fandom is built on headcanons and fan interpretations and rare pairs and all types of shippers. Your ship does NOT need to be canon for you to enjoy it. I will ship Jemily forever, no matter what. I don't think there will be some magical queer plot in S17, at best, we might actually get to see Emily/JJ on screen together again and after the train wreck that was S16 -- I'll take whatever I can get.
And hey -- if I am completely wrong, if Erica Messer pulls a Korrasami out of her hat, I will be ecstatic. I will be happy to be proved wrong, but at the same time, I'm not going to lose sleep over it and I'm DEFINITELY not going to go hound the actors about it on social media.

The trope Last Minute Hookup shouldn’t be used for LGBTQ+ relationships.
AND DEFENDING MY LAST POST ABOUT THIS.
I DO NOT hate any of these pairings. A good many of them could have been handled differently by the creators, writers, and networks. But this isnt me hating the relationships or characters or shows. Just going off about how they shouldnt have been tacked on at the end of their respective series.
As of writing this all of these shows have ended their original runs. Except for Supernatural which is on its last few episodes. And Supergirl, which announced its coming to end with season 6.
LGBTQ characters and relationships aren’t as common in the media as straight-cis characters and relationships. Sure things are improving but a lot of networks and writers still don’t fully understand why representation is important why they can’t keep using the same throwaway tropes they’ve been using for the straight-cis relationships.
You could name any piece of media and find and name one character that isn’t LGBTQ+, but you can’t do this with LGBTQ+ characters. We haven’t gotten to the point where they are as common as non-LGBTQ characters.
I have a whole paper I wrote on why asexual representation is important to have in the media and the same logic applies to any part of the LGBTQ+ or anything that falls under minority.
Back to the topic on hand. The trope of “Last Minute Hookup.”
Its exactly what it sounds like. Characters get to together at the very end of the story. These characters could have a on and off again relationship, lots of ship teasing, the classic “Will They or Wont They?” trope. What makes it different for non-LGBT characters in relationships to do this, we know what these relationships look like. Not to say the that both Non and LGBT relationship cant have similar struggles, however members of the LGBTQ+ community know how hard it is to feel like your identity and self matters and is normal.
I know that the whole “will they, wont they” thing is done for drama and networks and showrunners think if they give the fans what they want that they’ll start losing viewers and they have nothing to look forward to. Which is true to some degree. But most of this comes from the writers not knowing how to fucking write relationships.
Let’s just focus on whats it like to be in a non-straight relationship.
Heres an example: you have an action series, with 2 male leads and halfway through the show, they get together. Cool. Now you have a Battle Couple.
By making LGBTQ relationships happen at the end of a series that’s already had plenty of other non-LGBTQ relationships happen before it, it makes it look like the people in charge don’t care for it or were afraid of backlash. But it’s the end of the series so its not like they can get the show cancelled or anything. (The only people who are going to lash out at LGBT couple or characters are homophobic people, we don’t want them around any way so just make stuff super gay, so they’ll leave)
This is especially a problem when the writer and network have spent the whole series queerbaiting the audience with these characters.
Side note for anyone is doesn’t actually know what queerbaiting is:
It’s a marketing technique used in entertainment, which the writer or creators hint at but then don’t actually depict sex-same romance or LGBTQ representation. They do this to attract (bait) the LGBT/queer or straight ally audience into the show with the suggestion of representation but at the same time avoiding this as not alienate other audience members *cough* (homophobes) *cough*
Definition is from Wikipedia, not a reliable source says my highschool teachers and college professors but fuck em
The Legend of Korra is a great example of Last-Minute Hookup. Korra and Asami had VERY little ship teasing, and that was in the last 2 books/seasons. Any thing that was perceived as romantic came from the fans wearing shipping goggles. So to a lot of people just casually watching, yes this looked like it came out of nowhere. Nickelodeon had some serious balls to say how brave they were for putting 2 girls into a romantic relationship.
Theres a few problems with this.
A. It never actually aired on TV (to my knowledge). The last 2 seasons of Korra were put on Nicks website.
B. The confirmation that this Korrasami was canon had to come from the creators on twitter because of how unclear it was.
C. The show did the bare minimum when it came to hooking them up in the series. They walk off holding hands (very cute btw). They didn’t even get a kiss. Aang and Katara had a Last Minute Hookup at the end of ATLA after 3 seasons of ship tease and THEY GOT A KISS. Hell the original end of LoK*, has Korra and Mako kissing. *(the first season, they didn’t know they were getting more seasons at the time, no matter what you hear the writers say, they’re full of shit)
D. Anything continuation of Korra has come in the form of comics, which her and Asami are in a fairly well written relationship. Yes, they do kiss. Yes it would’ve been great to see this stuff happen in series.
A show that handles this a little bit better is Adventure Time. Not by much though. It implied several times that Princess Bubblegum and Marceline have history together and its shown more and more in its last few seasons that there is some ship tease happening. However its not until the finale where they kiss, and they are shown in the last minute of the show cuddling together in Marcy’s house. HBO has picked up Adventure Time and has a miniseries called Adventure Time: Distant Lands, where Bubblegum and Marceline’s past relationship is shown.
I had brought up in my original post about being upset with networks making LGBTQ+ relationships canon in the last season/episode. I originally had Catradora tagged. While Catra and Adora have history together, they did not become official couple until the end of the series.
Yes, I was wrong about the network making things canon in the last episode as they’ve always had ship tease with each other, and it probably was the writers’ intent to put them together by the end. They do technically fall under the Last-Minute Hookup, however.
I wanna talk about Once Upon a Time really quick. Fans of the show were hoping and wishing for an LGBTQ couple for the show as a lot of characters, especially Regina and Emma, have alot Ho Yay moments. The showrunners weren’t going to put those two together, for whatever reasons they may have for that (im indifferent on all the shipping going on with this show). The showrunners thought to put two characters together, and hoo boy did it not make people happy. The characters they put together are Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and Ruby the red riding hood, which would be fine if they had properly been developed.
The entire episode they did this in was a mess. They stopped the current arc during the season 5 episode ‘Ruby Slippers,’ to go over the characters that haven’t been seen in years, Dorothy was introduced and last seen in season 3, and Ruby was introduced in season 1 and was last seen in season 5 before ‘Ruby Slippers’. The characters get together in the same episode the meet in and are never seen again. The characters barely interacted, barely got along, and showed little to no ship tease or interest in each other and BOOM they are in love and together aaaaaannnnndd they’re gone. Other than having One Million Moms, a Christian fundamentalist organization, protest against the show and want it taken off the air (yes this really happened). The fans weren’t please with this development of the characters either.
(also Mulan was right there and already knew Ruby from a previous episode, and Mulan already is established to like girls as shown by her being in love with Aurora. Don’t know why the writers didn’t just put these 2 together but whatever I guess)
So they tried again in season 7 with MadArcher. The characters of Alice, a version of Alice in Wonderland from another realm (its complicated) and Robin, the daughter of Robin Hood and the Wicked Witch (it’s also complicated). And the writers did a lot better here. Both characters were allowed to have time together and have a history together too and it was done over the whole season. Not just one episode.
Now even though the writers decided to do something different with the last season and it could be detached from the previous 6 seasons, MadArcher is not really a Last Minute Hookup per say but still falls under my thing about it being the last season so who gives a fuck if One Million Moms gets mad us and tries to get us cancelled again.
I would like to say I have never watched a single episode of Supernatural in my life. I may one day. But as of right now my knowledge of it is coming primary from what ive seen on tumblr. You know a great source for doing research and looking for reliable information among the piles of shitposting.
From what I know from fans, the writers of Supernatural have been queer baiting for years. I mean it’s the CW, I’m not that surprised. What also wouldn’t surprise me, that by the end of the series Castiel is back and he and Dean actually start and relationship or strongly hint at starting one. I actually fear for the writer lives if they threw out a confession scene after years of queerbaiting and potential ship tease (debatable) and they don’t put them together. Fans are going to be angrier than they probably ever have been with this show and the showrunners and writers really would be known for queer baiting.
From what I know about how previous shows have done and if anyone that has ever worked on this show wants to continue living, Castiel will be back from Super Hell (is that what yall are calling it?) and he will get together with Dean. And they will fall under the Last-Minute Hookup trope and my networks make LGBTQ relationships canon last season.
One last show I want to talk about is Supergirl, which in has been recently announced that the 6th season will be the last. The show started on CBS but moved to the CW after the end of season 1. So more CW bullshit. There is no confirmation about whether the CW or any of the Supergirl writers are planning to do this, its all speculation. Supergirl is more LGBTQ friendly than some other shows on the Network. One of the main characters came out a few years ago and had a girlfriend a season and has had plenty of hookups with other ladies around the Arrowverse. They even introduced a trans-woman superhero in the form of Dreamer.
Let’s talk SuperCorp. Lena Luthor was introduced in the 2nd season and has been a major character in Kara’s life ever since her introduction. Even if she isn’t involved in the plot, Kara always goes to her to talk and check in on her and worry about her. They are best friends. Since the 2 have met, there has been plenty of Les Yay going on. The writers seem to be aware of the fans wanting SuperCorp to be canon and they keep throwing in moments like Kara and Lena struggling together or Kara carrying Lena bridal style.
Why I bring this up after the announcement of Supergirl’s final season to start next year. We may get SuperCorp. Kara has a relationship with William in the show and not a single person likes this relationship. The writers may scrap it and get put Kara and Lena together for the final season. This is a big maybe though. The Supergirl writers and crew get called out a lot for queerbaiting.
Let me know if you guys have any other examples of last season/last episode LGBTQ+ hookup.
And please let me know if you see any mistakes. This was all done in one sitting so I may have some things wrong.
Also check out the video by @aretheygayvideos on this topic too.

Thoughts on the Batwoman Pilot
Like many CW & Arrowverse fans I tuned into the Batwoman Pilot. I’m big fan of Batman as a character along with the mythos of the character. So when it was announced last year we’d be seeing Kate Kane in the Elseworlds crossover along with Gotham & everything within, I was ecstatic. When Ruby Rose was introduced as the character in the Elseworlds crossover, she surprised me. I hadn’t really seen any of her previous work so I was hesitant upon watching it. However I thought she did good as the character & she definitely deserved her own spinoff. Now we flashforward to October 6th, 2019 when the CW aired the series premiere of the Batwoman spinoff.
Overall I thought it was a pretty solid pilot & a nice way of establishing the journey Kate will be going on. It’s obviously answering the question of how & when Kate become Batwoman up to when she’s introduced in the Elseworlds crossover which I’m fine with. I like origin stories even if some of them have been redone numerous time. You have to remember though this is HER story, a character we’ve never seen in live action. In someways it reminded of when Supergirl first premiered back on CBS in 2015, (weird knowing it’s been that long), with the theme of “finding your place in the world”. It’s clear that’ll be a big theme throughout the show which I don’t mind so long as it’s done right. Again Ruby Rose did a pretty great job as the character & I think she might’ve been born for this role. That’s just my opinion, but if you disagree that’s fine. I like most of the cast introduced throughout; of course there’s some I don’t care for. It’s like that with all tv shows. It’s not a CW/Arrowverse show without a big twist which I’ll admit I was surprised by considering the circumstances. I say this because usually the big twist occurs halfway or near the end of the season. Instead they decided to drop it right at the end of the pilot which I respect. They want to add a serious mystery to the show & keep invested in these character which again I respect. Something else that surprised me were the flashbacks at times & showing the relationship Kate has with certain characters. I hope this continues on even if it’s not in every episode. While there were a lot of things I enjoyed about the pilot, I have only 2 issues upon watching it.
Throughout my viewing of the pilot I felt bothered by the overall pacing. It seemed a bit too rushed for my liking & it resulted in some dialogue issues with most of the cast. I think I understand why the pacing was too fast: Crisis on Infinite Earth’s. They wanna try & catch up in time for the crossover in December which is understandable, but they shouldn’t sacrifice good storytelling for that. I’m hoping this isn’t a recurring issue throughout the season & they slow the pacing down a little before the crossover. The other issue was how quick the action sequences were. This kind of goes intangent with the fast pacing of the show. Despite that issue the action sequences were executed well & straightforward separating itself from sequences for shows like Flash or Arrow.
Regardless of the issues involving the action & pacing, Batwoman was rather enjoyable. Instead of picking up where Elseworlds left off, it made the risky decision to backtrack & tell the characters origins. As a fan that’s something I wanna see because it’ll answer questions while giving us new ones at the sometime. If you’re still unsure about watching the pilot, I recommend you do. However please go in with an open mind. Forget all the reviews postive or negative; that way you’ll be able to form your own opinion on the show.
Overall grade: 7.9/10

Supergirl - ‘Stand and Deliver' Review
Tumblr media
Alex: "How can I, with a clear conscience, protect a man who is causing so much pain in the world?"
An episode in which many of our favorite characters stand up for their consciences, and in which the writers find a way out of the apparent impasse.
Ben Lockwood, as the president's new director of the Bureau of Alien Affairs, gets attacked by the Elite very early on in the episode. Because of the attack, Lockwood is assigned a new security detail, with Alex Danvers in charge - another move made by the president. As Alex loathes the man, this does not please her, but both her boss, Colonel Haley, and her adopted sister, Kara, give her the same advice: that by doing her job she will protect lives. (Supergirl, of course, has rescued many humans who she dislikes. I bet Colonel Haley has as well.)
As soon as Lockwood can speak without getting attacked, he announces his intention to repeal the Alien Amnesty Act, which, fortunately he cannot do by fiat, as this was apparently an act approved by Congress and Lockwood, a director in the executive branch, cannot unmake a law. However, Lockwood is in a position of influence, and by lobbying could get the act repealed. The announcement sends a chill through aliens and their friends, and they have to do something about it.
And the core of the show is when several of the characters take stands and deliver. The first to take a stand is Brainy, who, despite working at the DEO decides to organize a counter rally to the one being done by Lockwood (we all knew Brainy was behind it). The second is when James decides to go out – not as Guardian – but as a photographer to help the press show to the people what is really going on. The third is when Kara, originally hovering over the rally as Supergirl in order to protect everyone, staying above the fray, drapes herself in a Kryptonian robe (or perhaps just a blue blanket) and joins the pro-alien rally. The fourth is my favorite. Lockwood is getting the humans to shout, “Us or Them! Us or Them!” He’s egging on an attack. And then we have the wonderful:
Alex: You need to get off the stage now. Lockwood: Where’s the threat? Alex: You are the threat.
She hustles him off the stage. Pandemonium still breaks out, but the conflict would have been much worse if he had remained, and because she took him away, the brawling dies down, and people start helping one another (and her action even wins praise from Colonel Haley).
Olsen proves he deserves the position of photographer by taking a great shot of a human helping an alien, and that becomes the moment, the picture worth a thousand words, which defuses the anger being felt by so many. I was very impressed by this turn in the series, because I have been wondering how the writers could get them out of this jam – and they found a way that was fairly credible. Lockwood (pressured by President Baker, who we know cares a lot about the polls) says that they will hold Congressional hearings, which is a huge step forward.
Of course, the factions are not vanquished. Lockwood’s celebrity is based on hating aliens, so he’s got reason to try to come back. Some of the Elite are locked up. The writers can choose to return to this arc or not, but I am happy where it is for the moment.
For what I assume is a future part of the story: James is worried about the black budget at L-Corp and because he and Lena are on the outs, he can't really ask her. Instead he pumps Eve Tessmacher, his former employee, for information. Tessmacher actually has scenes that Lena would usually have more of a say in. Lena’s scenes are short and she appears overworked, which make me wonder if the actress was tired and overworked during the filming.
The episode ends with a great teaser: Who shot J.O.? (For those who are too young to know the phrase, “Who shot JR?” was the CBS hook for the show Dallas in the 1980s. Even though I never watched Dallas, I recall the phrase.) James Olsen, fresh from delivering the hearts-and-minds-changing photograph, is working late at CatCo, just the way a good boss should. Just as he is finally leaving the office, a gun is seen and a shot is fired. The last shot (camera shot) is of James Olsen lying on the floor, bleeding out. Will Olsen die? I hope not, even when they don’t give Mehcad Brooks enough to do, he is so easy on the eyes – besides, they cannot kill James Olsen, who is such a big part of the Supercousin world. So, who shot him? One of the Children of Liberty, out of resentment for that photograph? Or someone who doesn’t want him doing an expose on L-Corp finances?
Title musings: “Stand and Deliver” is the title of a 1988 documentary about a high school teacher who inspired his drop-out-prone students to master calculus. The word stand also evokes the “stand your ground” laws in various states, which have been used for the shoot first ask questions later and let Trayvon Martin’s murderer go unpunished. But it also serves the actions of at least four characters in this episode, and so I think the title works really well. All four of them made a difference by standing up when needed, and their actions together - even though not by design - had a great impact.
Bits and pieces
The Elite has a group of four, but as one of them is invisible most of the time, that’s good for the budget.
Some actual conversation for Eve Tessmacher!
Finally giving Nia Nal a more individualistic personality, and she seems to be into the meta awareness of the series, saying that’s a superhero speech or a classic bad guy move. Maybe this is a characteristic of a Dreamer. Or perhaps it is a characteristic of a superhero in training (which is rather cute).
I don’t recall Manchester Black having purple hair before this, but that’s in line with the comics. Very nice.
Loved the scrimmage between Brainy and Hat. Very artistic; they must have worked hard on the choreography.
Loved the super-heavy key for getting into the Fortress of Solitude and how the Elite looked under the mat for it.
Quotes
Lockwood: I know you think I’m a monster. But half of England said the same thing about Winston Churchill before World War II.
Nia Nal: Returning to the scene of the crime is a classic bad guy move.
Brainy: Well, whoever this American Alien is, their website superbly protected. He or she must be a highly intelligent cryptophile. Translating. This may take some time. Editor translation: You’re asking me to research myself. Haley: Just do it, Dox.
Hat: We’re supposed to be changing the world. Not acting suicidal to settle old scores.
James: You fight injustice with your fists, you can help one, maybe a dozen people. But good journalism – that can impact millions.
Brainy: Supergirl may be a symbol, but more importantly, she’s a citizen of Earth. Just like the rest of us.
Nia Nal: It always amazes me how much one photo can change the conversation.
Haley: Lockwood is a bureaucrat with power he doesn’t understand. Not only does that make things dangerous it makes our job difficult. Note that I disagree; I think Lockwood understands the power very well. Still, it's an interesting perspective.
Overall Rating
I can tell that I really enjoyed this episode, as I am still writing about it something like 1300+ words later (the word count may shrink when I edit). Three and a half out of four superheavy Fortress of Solitude keys.
Victoria Grossack loves math, Greek mythology, Jane Austen and great storytelling in many forms.

- Hang on. All three of them are adopted... alright CW, calm down
- Save your girl Kara
- Stop lying to your girlfriend Lena
- You shut your mouth Edge
- She looks deadly and amazing
- And she’s talking about science
- (I️ mean obviously it was going to be Edge)
- Man a hangover AND a hit to the back of the head? #JusticeforLenasHeadandScalp2017
- Lena, just holler out for Supergirl, you’ll be fine
- What exactly is Edge’s endgame
- Go get her Supergirl
- Edge, you know Supergirl is like a pro at stopping plane crashes right?
- That rescue has me feeling all kinds of ways
- ATTENTION FanFiction writers: I’m going to need all manner of fics where Kara and/or Lena are worked up by that moment, please and thank you
- I️ really wish she would have dragged him out to that cargo ship again
- Kara’s gonna have to kill Edge this season isn’t she
- Stop it CW. James doesn’t deserve Lena
- I’m not crying, you’re crying! (Okay we’re probably all crying, tbh)

Shipping Just Sucks For Me
I’m going to share with you all here on Tumblr a little bit of frustration I have when it comes to enjoying whatever fictional dramas I do.  Be they TV shows or some film franchise, it always seems to be the same.
I didn’t know the term “shipping” even existed until about Summer 2004 when I started frequenting some L Word message boards.  It was a bit of internet language I wasn’t familiar with.  From there I was introduced to concepts like ship names, names based on whatever pairings, romantically or otherwise from some show or movie.  I remember an early favorite of mine was a friendship based one from TLW called AlShaDane, based on a trio of friends, Alice Pieszecki, Shane MacCutcheon, and Dana Fairbanks.  There was Dana/Lara and when that fell through, there was Alice/Dana aka Danish.
For TLW, the big one and the one that still persists to something else I was introduced to in 2004, FanFic was TiBette, Bette/Tina.  That was the first truly fierce, “ride or die” ship fandom I can recall and it’s still rather fierce.
Eventually I learned what I could of the terminology so I could apply it to my own fandom.  The L Word aka TLW was important in teaching me a lot of stuff I wasn’t familiar with, but also teaching something else important and that’s shipping disappointment, also fandom disappointment.
TLW prepared me to deal with a lot of bullshit I’ve noticed when it comes to the fandoms I represent.  Dana Fairbanks was my favorite character.  She had the most intriguing story overall as it concerned the main characters.  Naturally, she’s the one the writers decided to kill off in Season 3 while she was already in the middle of a gripping enough storyline involving herself, Alice, and Lara.  I had also become a fan of the Shane/Carmen pairing and of course that died at the end of Season 3.
I remember writing the first (and only successful) fanfic based on the trauma that I and some other fans had dealt with as a result of that season.  I’ve tried here and there to write some stuff since, but I’m fucking horrible at writing.
By the time TLW ended in 2009, it felt like a mercy killing and it would be a while before I was able to watch anything though I should point out I did watch FlashForward for the freak show effect of the plot.
2013 was when I finally started opening back up to watching any shows again, starting with Agents of SHIELD and The Blacklist.  Eventually I would catch up on some other shows I eventually became interested.  In 2015, Supergirl would burst on the scene and that show quickly went from curiosity to my favorite show, the reason why episodic TV was worth it.  I became a big fan of the Danvers sisters and how they dealt with the growing pains of Kara growing into being a superhero and the support and love from Alex who had always been there for her since Kara showed up at the Danvers’ doorstep.
Unfortunately, Supergirl had to deal with CBS during Season 1, but thankfully the show as able to move over to the CW where I figured things might open up.  I admit, my initial reaction to Maggie showing up had me at “Huh?”  Then I remembered, it probably wasn’t likely Maggie was gonna show up on Gotham and date the future Batwoman who herself has yet to appear on that show.
Then Season 2 came along and Alex and Maggie started interacting.  There was an instant chemistry to it.  Sanvers wasn’t like Olicity where I figured “Yeah I like it, but understand Oliver’s got that “destined loner” thing going against him (see: MacCutcheon, Shane).  Like I said, TLW prepared me for this shit.
Sure there’s Barry/Iris, but that’s cheating as OF COURSE they’re supposed to be together.  Then Sanvers happened.  Cue the Sigma song with Rita Ora, “Coming Home” and that first kiss.  It was Dana/Lara all over again for me.  I remember how that one ended.  Again, that show prepared me.
Yet still, here we are in 2017 and this amazing story with an amazing pairing of characters featuring actors with chemistry and empathy for the situation their characters are in yet we’re on the verge of the oil slick into the ravine, assuming it’s not there already.
Disappointment is disappointment and sure a good fanfic doesn’t hurt when it comes to distractions, but that can only get so far.  Heck at one point last year I attempted (and failed) to write some story where not only were Jessica Jones and Felicity Smoak were a couple, but Supergirl and Quake were also one, because just the idea of that impossible pairing was too good to pass up without at least giving it a shot.
Again though, it’s fanfic.  Anything may go there, but the writers of the official stuff still helm the controls.  Creative and the network dictate what they can with the official narrative and there’s not much we can do about it.  Based on my avatar as of this writing, it’s apparent that I’m a big Holtzbert fan as well, based on Jillian Holtzmann and Erin Gilbert from Ghostbusters (2016), my favorite of the Gb films.  Sadly, I don’t think that will ever be successfully addressed either in a sequel that might not ever happen to the comic adaptation that currently gets to form the narrative, courtesy of IDW Publishing.
Which brings me back to Sanvers.  Here’s what the current state of Supergirl has done to me.  Keep in mind, this is still my favorite show, but I’ve gone from watching the show as it airs to DVR’ing it for later to delaying watching it and the other shows I’m into.  I’m currently 2 weeks behind and this Monday it might be 3.  I’m still keeping up thanks to social media, but it sure does make me feel apprehensive about hitting Play.
Everything is veering towards an inevitable breakup and I’m none too pleased about this.  I get that Floriana Lima, who plays Maggie is up for checking out some other gigs while she can and that’s fine.  I get that Creative is more interested in teasing the Supercorp (Kara/Lena) fans while shoehorning Karamel (Kara/Mon-El) in even when they’re not together.
Don’t get me wrong Karamelers, I’m not anti-Karamel necessarily.  I think they’re good together.  It’s just not something I feel strongly about either way.  I love that Team Karamel is ride or die for their favorite couple.  I dig that.  I also dig Team Supercorp and they’re undying faith in a concept no doubt feel should be given a chance.  I know that feeling well.  Unfortunately, I also know what it’s like to be disappointed at such a chance not being taken.
I don’t like feeling strongly about ships.  Again, I learned from TLW that’s a quick access point to resentment toward strangers trying to write their narrative.  With the exception of some likes or whatnot on social media I’ve tried keeping all this in check, but I admit it’s getting harder to do that.  There’s this level of bile building up, a level that I haven’t felt since Losing the Light on March 12, 2006.  Trust me when I say I was not particularly pleasant that night.
If/when the big Sanvers breakup happens on Sg, I’ll likely find out about it before I get around to watching it and it’s still gonna suck.
These people have lives.
These people have jobs to do.
These people are just trying to tell some story the best they can.
That’s me trying to remind myself to be rational.  That’s me trying to remind myself that ultimately this is fictional bullshit that should have no effect on my or anyone else’s life.
Then I remember how wrong I am.  Then I remember the families who shared their stories about how the Danvers sisters dynamic was huge for them, especially those with a birthed child and one adopted.  Then I remember the past year of reading just how powerful Alex’s coming out and the relationship with Maggie became instrumental in their lives.  I remember thinking to myself “Wow” when it came to others struggling to come out and struggling with acceptance, struggling with all of these real life issues that Chyler Leigh has been able to provide her acting prowess to as Alex and how meaningful the Alex/Maggie relationship became.
This wasn’t just some TiBette shit where people simply loved the chemistry in everything Jennifer Beals (Bette) and Laurel Holloman (Tina) brought to the table in making the rollercoaster ride of that relationship work on screen.  It wasn’t just about how natural they made it look, how organic it came off as.  Sanvers wasn’t just some crazy idea worth checking.  We weren’t interested in being baited.  We weren’t interested in Sg Creative declaring, “hey let’s try a lesbian thing on here and see how it goes.”  As the SEC football fans and marketing puts it, “it just means more.”  We had no interest in Sanvers being some kind of exploitation project to attract the GLAAD viewers.  For many of us it became personal, deeply personal.  I have a bad feeling that once all this plays out the way it’s apparently going to, that by the time they’re able to resolve it, it’s going to be too late.  When fans declare that “Sanvers is my endgame,” they’re not fucking kidding.  Something to understand about LGBTQ viewers, myself representing the “B” side to that.  We don’t like being dicked around.  We don’t have time for it.  We don’t have to be baited and we’re not interested in being thrown a damn scrap here and there.
Whether Sg Creative meant it, they tapped into something that’s become meaningful for many of us.  For me it’s idealism mixed with some realism, which I realize is a bit crazy as it comes to a show about a flying white lady alien who among her superpowers is being able to do all that fighting and not get a single run in those tights.
Alex/Maggie is getting into Dana Fairbanks territory.  It’s getting into Losing the Light territory.  As much as creative has a right to tell their stories as best they can, I and other Sanvers supporters have a right to not be happy about it and be rather vocal about it.
I won’t allow for any ship to be my endgame. I just won’t.  That said, even with the now apprehensive viewing, there’s going to be that disappointment.  The previous decade, TLW made me realize that I was more of a fan for what the show could be than what it was.  Supergirl with all those powers and abilities is going to wind up being the same.  That just sucks.
Sanvers matters.  Sanvers fans should also matter.

The Flash Season 5 Won't Explore Ralph and Caitlin Romance
The Flash may have paired Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) up on a new mission to find Killer Frost's origins (and Caitlin's missing dad), but you probably shouldn't expect that partnership to develop into romance any time soon.
TV Guide spoke to Hartley Sawyer at the CW Fall Launch Party about Caitlin and Ralph's new partnership, and he teased that next week's episode, ominously titled "The Death of Vibe," will really dig into that relationship. In fact, he even said it's one of his favorite episodes he's shot so far.
"What I love the most about that episode is we explore Caitlin and Ralph together," Sawyer said. "And I see people all the time thinking like, 'Oh is this going to be a romance?' It's not a romance, but I love what the friendship is... I love those two characters together, the bond that they have, and that bond is going to further as well."
As far as story goes, it's hard to argue with the choice to shift Caitlin and Ralph firmly into the friendship territory considering her history with romance on the show and the path she's currently on.
"Elseworlds" Arrowverse Crossover Poster Is Great -- But Where Is Supergirl?
Caitlin started off the series heartbroken over the loss of her fiancee, Ronnie (Robbie Amell), and though she briefly got him back, he was eventually killed off for real in the Season 1 finale. Then, in Season 2 she had that lovely romance with Jay (Teddy Sears) that turned not so lovely when he was revealed to be Zoom; a one and done romance, once again. In Season 3, Julian (Tom Felton) took up the mantle, and though he and Caitlin's romance was nice enough, it too bit the dust by the time the curtain closed on season finale -- though thankfully this time he at least survived the season.
Tumblr media
In Season 4, it seemed inevitable that Caitlin would pucker up again when Ralph joined the team -- she'd paired up with every newcomer in years before after all -- but The Flash smartly chose to keep that relationship platonic while having Caitlin explore her powers and her push-and-pull relationship with her alter ego, Killer Frost. Remarkably (please note the sarcasm) this choice led to Caitlin's best character arc on the series thus far. The dichotomy between these two roles, and the complicated loss of identity she suffered when Killer Frost was mysteriously ripped away from her, provided the kind of meaty storyline that Caitlin's endless line of love interests couldn't hold a candle too.
Discover your new favorite show: Watch This Now!
Still, after a year off from romance, it was easy to worry that The Flash would once again toss Caitlin and her fragile heart back in the ring, and Ralph seemed a likely candidate considering their recently paired storyline. Sawyer's assurance that the show has no immediate plans to hook these two characters up is reassuring. Caitlin's got quite enough on her plate with the discovery that her father has actually been alive all this time, and her mother was actually the one to fake his death certificate! An intense family deep dive should probably take precedence at this point, just saying.
We won't have to wait too long to see Caitlin delve into those daddy issues either. "Obviously we know a lot about the West-Allen family and their history, but I don't think we know a lot about the Snow family," Panabaker told TV Guide. "She's going to get to ask her dad some questions I think she's really been wanting to."
One daddy-daughter reunion, coming up!

The Flash will returns Tuesdays, October 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
(Full Disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS, The CW's parent company.)

10 Things to Looks For This At San Diego Comic Con 2017
With San Diego’s famous international Comic Con kicking off in less than 48 hours (July 20th - July 23rd, Preview Night Thursday July 19th) here’s 10 things fans of any kind will want to look out for this upcoming year on film and television whether or not you get close to the famous stars or not.
1. Teaser Trailer for Infinity War Part 1. and 2.
After D23′s expo which occurred this past weekend which hosted some of disney’s most beloved stars and fans. It gave Marvel fans the hype on something many have been waiting months for. The first official trailer for the Infinity Wars, as it steals the top spot for number 1. The reason for this besides the typical hype that follows any marvel film it was recently discovered that the production of the movie had recently finished filming and is now in phase of post-production. Coming along way from their beginning back in mid-january when they announced the beginning. For sure this trailer is one that will set the bar high this comic con season.
2. Fox’s Gotham Bruce Wayne Finally Batman?!
For all Gotham fans, I might say this coming season is surely one to look out for. Gotham, leaving fans in a tizzy with their season finale is  coming back for series 4. Even though it is still unclear on what will happen this new season fans hope comic con will be able to set things in perspective. One things for sure is that billionaire orphan Bruce Wayne will become the crime fighting vigilante that we all know and love. Although he may not be known let alone called batman yet (perhaps later in this upcoming season) we can ensure that he is officially one step closer to unraveling his destiny as Batman. As well as Selena Kyle, Bruce’s love interest as Catwoman.
3. Operation Smile’s Live Stream Panels
As one of many who has not been able to attend San Diego’s Comic Con. A special thanks is needed to Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ/Operation Smile’s run charity panels to give at home fans a way to enjoy the Con without actually being at the event. So for those like me staying at home bumping news off others actually at the Con, these panels are a real life saver on discovering some of the news first hand on the fly. If interest download the app to catch all the live panels streams.
4. Star Wars “The Last Jedi”
“It’s time for the Jedi....to end” these were the words Luke Skywalker spoke in the Star Wars teaser trailer that dropped early January and continues to stir rumors and speculations around the films future. Including what Luke means in his mysterious message about the force as well as Rey’s training with Luke and if/when Finn will return back to us in the franchise after being injured during his battle with Kylo Ren at the end of The Force Awakens. There has been several news about the Star Wars franchise that the sudden passing of Carrie Fisher has not changed the plot of The Last Jedi film but pre-production writers and analysts had to rewrite the script of the following films to write out Carrie’s character Princess General Leia. Still no word on how the changes and how it will affect the plot of the films going forward. But the excitement surrounding the films will no doubt continue through this weekend.
5. DC’s “The Justice League”
With the set release date of November 17, 2017. It’s no doubt a countdown from now on for many DC fans. After the release of Wonder Woman its no kidding that DC has officially set the bar on their franchise raising from their past failures like Suicide Squad and Batman vs. Superman. Let’s hope this is as good as Wonder Woman’s solo film which so far has exceeded such expectations from and box office or film critic. So far the rumors have kept quiet so far except for director Zach Snyder taking sometime off during shooting due to a personal family matter. There was no word on if film was suspended or taken over by a different director but let hope this sudden hiccup in the filming process doesn't effect the final cut of the movie.
6. The CW Networks Supernatural Returns for Season 13
Season 13 here we come! The Supernatural Fandom has really come along way since Sam and Dean’s adventure in finding their dad, John (Jeffery Dean Morgan), from the yellow eyed demon back in season 1. From the season 12 finale, fans were ended with Lucifer’s child being born, Mary Winchester stuck in a parallel universe with the devil, and everyones favorite angel Castiel having died. A few spoilers that we know of so far is that Castiel does, unsurprisingly, resurrect from the dead, thanks to Jared Padelicki spilling the beans at a recent Supernatural Convention but how he comes back to the land of the living is still unknown to us including what episode it might occur at. The rumors of a Scooby-Doo themed episode is also running around including what will happen during the events of this upcoming season and if it might be their last. So for those of you going to Comic Con please ask if this is true.
7. BBC’s Doctor Who Newest Doctor- A WOMAN!
The Doctor had Regenerated! I repeat he has Regenerated! The series that has gone on for more than 50 years has now accomplished and taken the show to the next level by making their lead, The Doctor, a female. Actress Jodie Whittaker who will reprise the role as the 13th doctor after Peter Capaldi says she's “beyond excited to being  this epic journey” -entertainmentweekly. Good Luck Jodie you deserve it! more information about the series journey this season will be answered during their panel at comic con.
8. Blade Runner 2049
More than 30 years after the making of the original Blade Runner Film played by Harrison Ford and made famous by Director Ridley Scott. Blade Runner is back better and ready to take on the science fiction world once more. Set 30 years after the original Officer K, played by Ryan Gosling who seeks the help of Harrison’s character Rick Dechard about information of the Blade Runners and their jobs in society.  Nothing much has been said about the film except for the recent release of the films trailers. But it could be possible that another trailer is expected to be released during comic con but so far anything is possible.
9. Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 2!
Eleven is back for season 2! Even though the last season of Stranger Things ended with Eleven in the parallel universe and everything, so far, in our world to be  safe and sound. Including Will coming back and The Demogorgon gone everything’s back to normal except for the big impact eleven made on everyone’s lives in the show and its fans. Comic con will shed some light on the newly released poster and trailer as well as teasing on the monster that made its way back to the normal world and how this one is different and/or more harmful than the monster the first season. Can’t wait until October.
10.  Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
With production of the newest Jurassic having recently come to a close a very short time away from San Diego’s Comic Con. It makes sense why a lot of them would attend to spread the word on how this new generation of dinosaurs with cause self destruction on people and its park. right? Anyway, rumors have spread about the ideas of the film based on the title as well as the new characters expected to play in the film in its designated release in June of 2018. Some new comers and veterans include BD Wong’s character Dr. Henry Wu whom we saw in the release of the last film and the return of Jeff Goldblum’s famous Dr. Ian Malcolm. There is still no concrete idea of the films progression into this fallen kingdom that the movie hints about but fortunately for us as fans comic con is here to shed some light on where it will takes us if the possibility of another Jurassic sequel is either in the works as I write this or any ideas of another.
New series premieres to look out for!
-Fox’s The Gifted
-Marvel’s Inhumans/ Defenders
-The CW’s Dynasty
-Netflix’s The Punisher

I’m done with Supergirl
I made it through the first six minutes of Homecoming and had to bail. It was just to painful to watch her fawn all over Space Frat Boy. The CW has done everything to the character and show I had feared CBS was going to do when the show premiered. CW took an amazing show with great characters and stories and shit all over it.
At least, Callisto Flockhart had the good sense to get the hell out before they drug Cat Grant down this shit hole. I’d pay to see Cat come back and knock some sense into Kara, while kicking Mon-El back into space.
The fact they are pushing this toxic relationship as something we should happy with is sick. How sad is it that Space Frat Boy was probably her first. Kara deserves so much better.
I’m not just upset over the toxic relationship, it’s the way Kara and the other core characters have been turned into poor copies of their original selves. The plots this season make no sense, it’s like they are being written by 13 year old boys with ADHD. There were so many great things they could have done with this season but they just shit it away.
It hurts to see this show crash and burn. I fell in love with these characters. It’s like losing old friends.
I’ll have season one, that I’ll always treasure, and the wonderful fan fiction. That will have to be enough. Good luck to those of you still clinging to the hope it will get better. If it does please let me know, but for now I’ve got better things to do with that hour of my life.
The fans I really feel sorry for are the little girls who fell in love with season one Supergirl. They have lost their hero.

I'm over the age of 18 and will only write with others over the age of 18 as well
Attempts to reply every 1-2 days, but will let you know about any unusual absences.
Prefers writing in third-person.
Willing to play canon characters and original characters. Willing to do canon/canon, oc/canon, and oc only. Willing to double!
Prefers long-term plots
Problematic? I can go either way! With this being a problematic rp finder, I will include that I am open to themes of kidnapping, non-con, bondage, etc.! However, I am completely content to play something more romantic-based as well, though I do love consensual bondage being included if we do go that route.
Fandoms: I am hoping to find a partner willing to play one of the following canon characters for me. Extensive knowledge about the world and character is not necessary. I have no issue with you portraying these characters with your own unique interpretation. Feel free to inquire about unlisted fandoms too! Once again, I am willing to play any canon character you desire in return

i saw someone today on my twitter timeline defending the division of screen time among supergirl characters, by saying that mon el should have more screen time by default because he is kara’s love interest, and by that same logic, maggie shouldn’t have as much because she is the love interest of a supporting character
let me say that again: mon el is more important to the show because he is the “love interest” of kara danvers this season, only recently presented to us within the last couple of episodes, and alex danvers, kara’s older sister since the first fifteen minutes of the pilot episode, is nothing more than a supporting role and therefore her relationships should be treated as such. you can defend your ships all you want, i don’t really care, but i damn well have a problem when you start telling me that one of the FEMALE LEAD CHARACTERS is in fact, a supporting role, and that is why her love interest doesn’t get as much air time. if chris wood’s character is going to be dubbed as kara’s love interest, whatever, but by that logic, you better either up floriana’s time or cut his down significantly because alex danvers is in fact a female lead on this show, second only to the title role (kara) and you will not fucking tell me that she is a supporting role without me coming for you like the wrath of god
someone please tell the cw to give alex danvers (and maggie sawyer, for that matter) some more screen time or to just...give the show back to cbs or something, because this is turning into some next level bullshit i am not here for

Q: Where are you at the moment?
A: I’m in Grand Junction. Part of my family lives here and the other half lives in Denver, so we’re kind of all over Colorado.
Q: How often do you make it back?
A: Not nearly as much as I’d like to because now I’m relocated up to Vancouver to shoot “Supergirl.” So it’s usually just the holidays, but I look forward to a time where I will get to possibly have my own place back in Colorado. I miss it very much. This state and the southwest are my favorite parts of the country.
Q: Let’s talk “Patriots Day.” Were you concerned how a role like this would affect your otherwise wholesome image?
A: No, and in fact that’s what drew me to it: how different it was. Obviously it is a very controversial and much more provocative character than I’ve been playing in the past couple of years. But I just think it’s really intriguing and enigmatic and very relevant subject matter. It’s something that happens in current events more often than a lot of us want to admit. I wasn’t afraid of anything having to do with my image because I think it’s a really important story to tell. I wanted to be a part of that in any way that I could be.
Q: Having seen the film, I’m confident saying it’s a pretty small and thankless role. Why take on something like that when you’ve already got the profile and traction from “Supergirl” and other films?
A: I’ve always been drawn to the smaller roles that you might see on the page and it’s not much to do in the grand scheme of the movie. But I felt the same way when I took the role in (2014’s Oscar-winning) “Whiplash.” It meant something to me. In (“Patriots Day”), I had originally gone in to play one of the victims and survivors of the bombing (Jessica Kensky), but they came back to me and my team saying, “We’re actually interested in you for this role, and it’s a lot different …,” and I didn’t hesitate. I read the scenes for the audition and immediately was drawn to it. (Katherine Russell) is extremely mysterious to me, and I think to a lot of people, so I was excited at that prospect.
Q: How did your prepare for it?
A: Everyone on the film that had a real-life counterpart got to interact with them and have conversations or work very closely with them, and obviously that was not something I could do. But a lot of what Peter Berg said to me while we were on set was, “I don’t want to know what she’s thinking – because we don’t.” So that was a lot of what I drew from, that she was just very concealed and we don’t really know a lot about her. It was a challenge.
Q: You appear a little in the beginning of the movie, then disappear completely until that intense scene at the end. Was there more they shot that didn’t make it in?
A: Well, I haven’t seen it yet to be honest. I couldn’t make it to the premiere, so I’m not sure what they kept and what they didn’t. But most of what I did was just in the apartment with the brothers, and then that interrogation scene at the end.
Q: Did you see the news that the lawyer of the woman you portrayed said she had no foreknowledge of the events, contrary to the movie?
A: I did not know or see that. I think it’s a very gray area. That’s what hard about trying to portray that. And I don’t know my stance on it. It’s going to be hard for us to ever know what really happened with her. But from my experience being on set, we had a lot of consultants. They were extremely detailed and had really done a lot of research and talked to a lot of people in and around that area surrounding the apartment complex — and people that knew them and interacted with them. So I don’t know.
Q: How is “Supergirl” going? It seems to really have found its stride on the CW after debuting on CBS (in 2015). Is Season 3 confirmed yet?
A: I really hope there’s a Season 3, and I have a good feeling about it. I don’t see why we wouldn’t. We’ve been having such a great time on Season 2 and have found a lot of traction with our stories and our voices. I think it fits in so well with “The Flash” and “Arrow” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” For the rest of this season (which debuted in October), what the writers have been doing really well is relating the show to a lot of things going on in our country right now and bringing up issues of equality. So I appreciate how every single character on our show just stands up for loving each other and sticking together, no matter where you come from, whatever your skin color, species, planet or sexuality — whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. You deserve love and can stand up for what’s right. So you’ll see a lot more of that.
Q: Are you pleased with the direction of your character, in terms of complexity and the choices she’s faced with? I know she’s been hailed by some as a new feminist icon.
A: I feel very fortunate in that I’ve gotten to do a lot of the things that I imagine I’d want to do playing this character. I love the way they’re going with how independent she is and how she just continues to get stronger and stronger. I love when a superhero is faced with a moral dilemma and they don’t know what the right decision is. I’d love to see more stories like that, and I think she’ll have them. I mean, Supergirl is very staunch about what she believes in, but it might not be for the greater good.
Q: I’m not alone in finding the CW’s version of the DC comics universe more appealing than, for example, the grim, colorless Zack Snyder films like “Man of Steel” and “Batman V. Superman.” Do you think the TV version’s tone will start to get in sync with the movie versions at some point?
A: I think so. Ezra Miller’s Flash is bringing humor and quirkiness, and the DC TV universe has had to grapple with some pretty dark, emotional storylines on “Arrow.” I do think it’s inevitable that we all start to reflect each other. But I do love how positive and uplifting “Supergirl’s” character is and I don’t think she will change too drastically from that, because in essence that’s just who she is.
Q: What’s next for you in 2017?
A: I’m looking for new projects. I’d love to be on stage again because I really miss theater. I’m working on a novel with my older sister Jessica that we’re kind of plugging away on called “Wherever the Wind Takes Me.” It’s still in the preliminary stages but very much inspired by our childhood in Colorado. Our grandparents would drive us around a lot of the ruins and closer to Utah and the Four Corners area, so it has a lot to do with the nature that we were brought up in. That’s actually where it takes place. It’s inspired by our roots.
