Madarcher’s kids - my headcanon

because @of-monsters-and-werewolves said she’d like to hear about them all and I went overboard

Alice and Robin had always wanted a big family having both grown up as only children in single parent homes. They get their wish with four kids. Christopher (Kit) the oldest, twins Milly and Melody in the middle and Rowena (Rena) the youngest.

Below is an excessive amount of information about each one and the family pets as a bonus.

Full Name: Christopher Robin Jones

Birth Date: October 15, 2022

Pronouns: he/him

Nicknames: Kit (everyone), little bear (Nook)

Name origin/significance: Robin after Mom and Grandpa Robin, Christopher suggested by Zelena didn’t realize until after birth that he shared a name with Christopher Robin from Winnie the Pooh (see this post for details) turned out to be suitable as he brought stuffed animals to life with magic. His nickname Kit is a common (if more old-fashioned) nickname for Christopher and is also a nod to the name for a a baby fox and that Robin Hood is a fox in the Disney movie

Pregnancy: Alice’s magic impregnated Robin when Alice was daydreaming about having a family (see this fic for details)

Appearance: dirty blond/light brown hair, green eyes

Personality: quiet and introverted, kind and compassionate, self-motivated, optimist

Interests: animals, nature, drawing, photography, reading

Abbreviated life story: As a kid Kit was part of Boy Scouts and 4-h (he raised bunnies and also did projects involving Zelena’s animals from emerald acres). He spent lots of time exploring the woods around their home either alone, with his stuffed animals brought to life, with his sisters or with his entire family. He often stopped to sketch or photograph what he saw. When he wasn’t in the woods he was probably at Storybrooke library. After graduation he began traveling the united realm, mapping, documenting (in notes, sketches and photos) and studying the landscapes, plants and animals of the area. He would go on to be the co-founder/curator/director of the united realm museum and archives with his cousin (technically second cousin) Lucy. He focused on the natural history while she focused on the human/cultural history.

Magic: Kit has magic but rarely uses it actively. He frequently uses it passively (simply when he’s daydreaming) especially when he’s younger but it is always well-controlled. He also seems to have the classic “Disney princess magic” to attract and communicate with animals

Relationships:

Alice (Mama) - Kit is very similar to Alice in his curiosity, imagination and optimism. Therefore they get along very well. When he is young they often play imaginary games together. They also enjoy exploring, reading and playing chess together.

Robin (Mom) - Kit gets his practical and grounded nature from Robin. He is eager to learn everything Robin knows about the woods including navigation and tracking (although for photography and sketching instead of hunting) and enjoys spending time with his mom during these times.

Milly and Melody (sisters) - Kit’s personality is nearly opposite his twin sisters’ (see below). Nevertheless he loves spending time with them (as long as he can have some time to himself to recharge afterwards). He can always count on the twins to excitedly accompany him on any adventure he can imagine. Kit also enjoys creating challenges for the twins and acting as the judge/ref during their many competitions. He is also grateful to them for convincing him to try SCUBA.

Rowena (sister) - Kit has a special bond with his youngest sister who he affectionately calls Roo. They share a boundless curiosity and thirst for knowledge. They love to go to the library together and Kit would always read to Rena until she was old enough to read herself.

Zelena (grandma) - Kit is endlessly spoiled by his grandma who was ecstatic to welcome her first grandchild (so much so she moved back to united realm when he was born). He loves to help her with all the animals on emerald acres farm and always appreciated Zelena’s help with his 4h projects. (Zelena’s husband also loves all the kids and treats them like his own grandchildren)

Nook (papa) - Kit loves to spend time on the ocean with his Papa. He eagerly learned about sailing and navigation. When not helping his Papa captain the ship he can be found in the crow’s nest with binoculars searching for marine life. When docked he excitedly sketches or photographs tidal pools and landscapes.

The Millses (technically Regina is great-aunt, Henry is his cousin once removed and Lucy is his second cousin but he calls Lucy his cousin and all the adults aunt and uncle) - He has good relationships with all the Millses but is particularly close with Lucy. She would often babysit the kids growing up and would always take Kit to the library. They would end up opening the united realm museum and archive together where Kit focused on natural history while Lucy focused on cultural history especially genealogy. They would be lifelong business partners.

The Charmings (not technically related but he calls Neal his cousin and snow and charming aunt and uncle) - Kit looks up to Neal who serves as a mentor for Kit in both Boy Scouts and 4H. Kit enjoys spending time with the animals on the Charmings farm.

Swan-Joneses (not technically related but kids are considered cousins and Emma and Hook aunt and uncle) - Went to school with Hope and her ?sibling(s) and all the kids would often play together. They were frequently thought to be siblings especially because hope and the twins looked surprisingly alike.

Full Name: Milly Alice Jones

Birthdate: March 20, 2025

Pronouns: she/her

Nicknames: (my) flying monkey (by Zelena - she calls all the grandkids this but especially the twins), sea monkey see/ sea monkeys - when referring to both twins (Nook), the twins/ the Jones twins - with her twin sister (everyone), energizer bunny/ bunnies (Alice and Robin)

Name origin/significance: M from Margot + illy from Tilly ( her Moms’ alter egos). Also Mill from Mills from her Aunt Regina’s last name which was later adopted by Zelena and Robin when it became clear a last name was needed in the land without magic. Alice for her mama Alice since her brother’s middle name was after her other mom.

Pregnancy: after Robin’s unexpected pregnancy with Kit, Alice and Zelena teamed up to discover how this part of Alice’s magic worked so that Alice and Robin could family plan accordingly. Their research was fruitful and they not only were able to find a way for Alice to control her magic but also ultimately found many magical fertility strategies. When Robin and Alice decided they wanted another kid, Alice was eager to carry the baby and by combining Alice’s magic with a potion recipe from their research they were able to make it happen (however they may have made a little too much potion resulting in twins). Like most twins the twins were born early at 36 weeks, but their mom’s joked it was because even then they couldn’t wait to getting moving.

Appearance: blond hair, blue eyes

Personality: Athletic and adventurous. extroverted and energetic. Driven and competitive. Social butterfly and thrill seeker.

Interests: The outdoors, sports, adventures, people

Abbreviated life story: Milly was always full of energy. As a toddler she would constantly pester everyone and anyone to play with or ask to join in no matter who it was or what they were doing. She played a large variety of sports growing up but her favorites were always the outdoor adventure sports especially those with a height or wind component (rock climbing, windsurfing/kite boarding/ sailing and snowboarding). She moved away from the united realm with her twin sister after graduation to New York State where they joined the varsity sailing team and competed together sailing a 2 person dinghy with good success. While there they both completed degrees in adventure tourism. After college graduation she traveled the united realm as well as around the world (land without magic) with her twin sister leading a variety of adventure tours and training other guides. She did this for many, many years but would eventually move back to the storybrooke area and open a watersport shop/school/tour company (flying sea monkey adventures) with her sister.

Magic: During her childhood it did’t appear Milly had any magical powers. However as a teenager and young adult she was able to learn some basic first aid and wilderness survival magic with the help of her siblings and grandma. But doesn’t have much interest beyond that.

Relationships:

Alice - Milly shares her mama’s excitement and sense of adventure. She’d often ask to hear stories of her travels. She was also almost always the person she’d ask for permission or help as she tended to be more easy going than Robin despite Robin’s determination to not be the overprotective mother she had. Alice and Robin would travel often to visit the twins at university and later all across the realms.

Robin - Milly shares her Mom’s sense of adventure, determination and competitiveness. When she was little she’d ask to hear about Robin’s travels as Margot and beg her to teach her archery as soon as she was old enough to hold a bow. Robin would often challenge the girls to competitions such as races on soil or snow or shooting completions on the archery range. She was also the quintessential soccer mom always making sure they were registered, ready and on time to any activity they wanted to try and eagerly cheering from the sidelines. Zelena often remarked how much the twins reminded her of Robin as a child. Their relationship was a little strained during Milly’s early teenage years but quickly recovered as she aged.

Kit - although very different Milly loved Kit and they got along really well. She would always stand up for him if he was being picked in or made fun of as he was usually too passive and quiet to stand up for himself. Milly was always excited to go adventuring with Kit and was always grateful that he took on most of the responsibilities (navigation, etc.) so she could simply enjoy it.

Melody - Milly and her twin sister are very similar, they were nearly inseparable as children and remained best friends throughout their lives. The differences they do have: Milly’s love for wind and Melody’s love for water. Milly’s people skills and Melody’s organizational skills, complement each other well and helped them succeed in many of their endeavours.

Rowena - Although overall quite different Rena and Milly shared a similar drive and competitiveness. They would often challenge each other to competitions. And although Rena was younger and smaller she would often use magic to give her an edge, leading to the lifelong family debate as to wether or not that was cheating. Milly always enjoyed the debate but never truly cared if Rena used magic as it just made beating her more of a challenge.

Zelena - Milly’s favourite thing to do with her grandma was fly on her broomstick. When she was 5 or 6 around Halloween she noticed all the decorations with witches flying on brooms and eagerly asked Zelena to teach her. She obliged starting with simply hovering with help. As they got older Zelena allowed them to do more and more and by high school she could ride the broom Zelena had enchanted and gifted to her as good as any quidditch player and it was her go to mode of transportation.

Nook - Milly learned everything about sailing from Nook and loved every second of it. Although he taught all the kids the twins were the most keen and always asked for extra lessons. He would go on to coach the storybrooke sailing team (at the twins insistence) and was incredibly proud of their success at university. It was also his sharing his passion for the ocean that led to her trying other ocean sports (kayaking, surfing, etc.).

The Millses - Milly eagerly learnt sword fighting from the Millses (especially Lucy when she would babysit)

The Charmings - Milly eagerly learnt horse back riding from the Charmings

The Swan-Jonses- Milly and Melody (who are identical) look a lot like Hope and they are often confused for sisters. The kids are all a similar age and often play together.

Full Name: Melody Goldie Jones

Birthdate: March 20, 2025 (same as Milly) - Melody is 4 minutes older

Pronouns: she/her

Nicknames: same as Milly but sea monkey do instead of sea monkey see (Nook) and Goldilocks (everyone as a toddler and young child - see below)

Name origin/significance: When they decided to have another baby Robin was determined to not have another accidental namesake so she did a quick google search with combinations of keywords: Milly, Millie, fairytale, Disney as Milly was a top contender if Kit had been a girl. She was relieved that only minor supporting characters came up. However, when Alice went for her first ultrasound and they found out they were having twins she was reminded of one of those results: Millie and Melody, Minnie Mouse’s little known nieces. When she shared this with Alice she thought the name Melody was super cute (and the picture of the cute anthropomorphic mice didn’t help) so it stuck and Robin realizing Melody was also the name of Ariel’s daughter in the second little mermaid (although to her knowledge the Ariel she knew did not have a daughter named Melody) she gave up on trying to avoid the namesakes. The middle name Goldie was a tribute to Rumple (Mr. Gold) and everything he did for Alice.

Pregnancy: same as Milly

Appearance: blond hair, blue eyes (identical to Milly but their family can tell them apart)

Personality: Very similar to Milly although Milly is slightly more social and Melody a little more of an organizer and planner.

Interests: same as Milly -The outdoors, sports, adventures, people

Abbreviated lifestory Like her twin, Melody was always full of energy. However, unlike her sister instead of pestering others as a toddler she would just do what she wanted, often wandering off. This also manifested as wanting to try everything (everybody else’s food, all her outfits on every morning, all the seats in any room they entered) so she was given the nickname Goldilocks (which not only suited her personality but also her appearance and middle name). Like her twin, she played a large variety of sports growing up and her favorites were always the outdoor adventure sports but while Milly prefered wind and heights, Melody preferred water (kayaking/canoeing, Scuba, windsurfing/kite boarding/ sailing). She moved away from the united realm with her twin sister after graduation to New York State where they joined the varsity sailing team and competed together sailing a 2 person dinghy with good success. Relationships:

Alice - Like Milly, Melody shares her mama’s excitement and sense of adventure and their relationship is similar.

Robin - Like Milly, Melody shares her Mom’s sense of adventure, determination and competitiveness and their relationship is similar. Although there was some tension during their teenage years overall the twins are a little closer with Robin while their siblings are closer with Alice.

Kit - Melody and Kit got along well. Unlike Milly she was eager to learn the more detail orientated activities of navigation and wilderness skills. Which Kit excitedly taught her.

Milly - see above

Rowena - Very similar to Milly’s relationship with Rena.

Extended family - similar relationships as Milly.

Full name: Rowena Wren Jones

Birth date: August 13, 2027

Pronouns: she/they

Nicknames: Rena (everyone - more commonly people who have known her since childhood), Ro ( everyone ), Roo (Kit), RoJo (mostly college friends), RJ (mostly people they met after college), Shore bird (Nook)

Name origin/ significance: Ro from Robin, Rogers and Roni + ena from Zelena. By the time Rena was born Robin had accepted that all there kids would likely have story book namesakes and was happy to choose a name from a book series she loved (Harry Potter - Rowena Ravenclaw). They asked 4-year old Kit what he wanted to name his baby sister who suggested Bunny or Birdy pointy at the songbirds and wild rabbits around them. Looking more closely at the birds Robin and Alice realized they were mostly robins and wrens leading to the middle name. Throughout her life they would have many different nicknames, all of which she liked.

Pregnancy: Robin chose to carry their fourth and final child. Alice, now knowing how to control her powers was more than happy to oblige.

Appearance: strawberry blond hair, green eyes, light freckles

Personality: curious and inquisitive, keen and intelligent, brave and stubborn

Interests: MAGIC, science (chemistry, physics, astronomy), reading

Life story: As soon as Rena was born she showed magical abilities. It started as the lights flickering every time she cried. By 6 months she was making objects float. The other kids thought it was super cool, while Alice and Robin were a little more worried about adding uncontrolled magic to the chaos of having 4 kids under 5. By 1 she’d suddenly turn invisible for varying amounts of time without warning. By 2 she was accidentally throwing fire balls and energy blasts when she got upset, which scared her and made her more upset. Alice or Zelena or Regina (who both helped a lot with babysitting when she was young) were usually able to counteract the magic and keep everyone safe but Rena does have a large scar on her arm from a fireball gone wrong at this age. By 3 she was learning how to control some of her magic and was turning all her food into cookies until Alice and Robin explained to her the importance of a balanced diet. She was also the kid that would ask 1000 questions about anything and everything. Over her elementary school years she slowly gained more and more control over her magic but still had the odd flurry with strong emotions therefore she was somewhat polarizing to her peers, they either thought she was super cool or were scared of her. Luckily overall she was a very easygoing toddler and kid and was happy as long as she had a book. She went through books extremely quickly and was always eager to go to the library to restock. She was a sponge of knowledge and having experience with magic and also hearing so many family story’s with glaring inconsistencies explain by “because magic” she wanted to learn everything she could about magic. She always excelled academically and joined the quizbowl team at her high school and made good friends with many of her teammates. After graduation they went away to university where she did a double major in physics and chemistry. Every summer she’d return to the united realm and do an apprenticeship with a sorcerer. Upon graduation they did a few more years as a sorcerer’s apprentice before getting a teaching position at storybrooke high, teaching chemistry. She also founded a magic club for interested students. Later in her career they’d help found the united realms university/ learning guild and serve two terms as dean and write the go to textbook on modern magic.

Magic: She has strong magic and loves to use it

Relationships:

Alice: Rena shares Alice’s curiosity and creativity. Alice was Rena’s favorite person to ask questions because she never said she didn’t know instead she’d come up with theories or talk about related topics. Alice was also responsible for teaching Rena ways to deal with her big emotions to keep her magic under control such as painting and chess.

Robin: Rena shared Robin’s confidence and determination but overall was quite unlike her mom. Robin often read to Rena when she was little and would later ask Rena for recommendations and read them so they could discuss them. This was something Rena really valued.

Kit: Rena got along with all her siblings as she was very happy listening to them tell her all about whatever interested them. She loved learning about phylogenetic classifications of plants she’d never see from Kit or the rules of a sport she’d never play from the twins. However, she was particularly close with Kit. They’d often sit in the woods together and he’d draw while she read. They’d also often do research projects together such as identifying plants and discovering their uses.

Milly and Melody: Rena loved listening to her sisters talk about their interests as well as going to their various games and competitions. Because they were decently close in age the twins often invited Rena to hang out with them and their friends which she appreciated.

Zelena: Rena loved to spend time with Zelena and have her teach her magic and getting to teach her was one of Zelena’s biggest joys.

Nook: Rena was the least interested in sailing of her siblings but she loved having Nook teach her astrology which he knew from using the stars to navigate.

The Millses: Rena also eagerly sought Regina’s mentorship for her magic, who obliged. When she was younger she’d get many of her book recommendations from Henry and Lucy.

The Charmings: Rena saw the Charmings at extended family gatherings but wasn’t particularly close with any of them.

The Swan- Jones’s: Rena went to school with Hope and her ?sibling(s) and often encouraged them to explore their magical abilities.

Pets-ish:

Roger (the Rabbit) and family - Alice and Robin adopted him from the Storybrooke pet shelter shortly after their engagement. They essentially treated him like their first child and named him after Alice’s Papa accordingly. He was Kit’s first few 4h projects and a beloved family pet for 20 years (they’re not sure how he lived so long but suspect magic may have been involved). Kit wanted to breed him for 4h at which time they adopted a second rabbit (Jessica). They had 3 babies (Thumper, Judy, and Bugs). They were all then promptly spayed and neutered to avoid exponentially more bunnies and all remained with Alice and Robin and the kids.

Elvis (the dog) - Elvis was a coonhound cross they adopted when the kids were 7-11 years old after much begging. Kit named him and did much of his training and care. He’d accompany his family on all dog friendly adventures and eventually move out with Kit.

Swiper (the Fox) - Alice and Robin found a young fox on the side of the road, malnourished with a broken leg. They took him to the vet who cast it. There were no wildlife rehab facilities nearby so Robin, Alice and the kids cared for him while he recovered. During this time he got along with the family surprisingly well even trying to play with Elvis and the bunnies (especially Judy who seemed to be the bravest). When he was fully recovered he was released back into the wild but would regularly visit the cabin.

Raven (the raven): When out exploring one day Kit and Rena found an egg on the ground they brought it home and researched how to hatch an egg. Against all odds it worked and they then had to research how to raise a baby bird. With lots of work and lots of help they raised a healthy raven to adulthood. They ultimately released Raven and she was able to successfully forage for herself but otherwise pretty much hung out by the cabin and would greet Kit or Rena as soon as they came outside and accompany them on any adventures through the woods, even riding on their shoulder. Rena often asked if she could bring Raven places (including school) the answer was usually no although she did accompany the family on a number of hiking, camping and sailing trips.

Family in general:

In general the entire family was very close. Sunday was “family fun day” involving an extravagant tea party followed by an afternoon activity such as a craft, game or outing. In addition, they frequently went on family adventures. In the winter it was to the ski hill. Everyone started off learning to downhill ski but over the years the twins switched to snow boarding and Kit and Alice switched to snow shoeing so they could spend their time stopping and looking at things like animal tracks and cool icicle formations. Rena and Robin stuck with skiing but they’d still always meet up at the lodge for lunch. In the spring they’d plant a garden together. Alice picked the plants that looked the coolest. Robin picked the veggie plants and berry bushes. Kit picked flowers favored by bees and butterflies and Rena picked plants used in potions and spells. The twins didn’t really care what they planted as long as they got to play in the dirt and help plant everything. In the summer they’d spend lots of time sailing with Nook who was ecstatic to be able to do everything he always wanted to do with Alice as a child now with a family of her own. The twins always wanted to help steer. Kit would alternate between helping steer and looking out over the ocean. Rena tended to watch her surroundings or read a book. Her favorite was night when she, Kit, Nook, Alice and sometimes the others would look at the stars. Throughout the spring, summer and fall they’d go hiking and exploring through the woods and forest. The twins always racing ahead, while Rena stopped to pick spell ingredients and Kit stopped to point out interesting plants, fungi and animals.

Every year they’d travel somewhere new that nobody had gone before. This was always everyone’s favorite as the one thing every member of the family shared was a curiosity and sense of adventure.
