The Merlin Library’s Merlin Finale 10 Year Anniversary Prompt Challenge

October 6 - December 25, 2022 The Merlin Library Discord

The Merlin Library is celebrating the decade anniversary after the Merlin Season 5 finale left behind one of the most memorable television endings and emotionally devastated all of its viewers as it aired on the night before Christmas…ahem. The Merlin Finale 10 Year Anniversary Prompt Challenge is a ‘prompt’ challenge designed to capture elements of each episode as the 5th season celebrates its 10th anniversary since airing. Each week is dedicated to a specific episode until the week of the finale, where the two episodes aired within days of each other.

This fest runs for 12 weeks, starting on October 6th with the original airing date of Arthur’s Bane: Part 1, and ending with Diamond of the Day: Part 2 on December 24th.

All creators are welcome to participate. Content is open to fic, art, edits, gifs, manips, meta, poetry, podfic, and whatever else you can creatively come up with during these 12 weeks.

You do not need to do something for each week, but there will be a special prize for those who do. Participate as much or as little as you want.

You may tag #TML10ANNIVERSARY and your content will be reblogged to our main Tumblr, themerlinlibrary.tumblr.com. If you are submitting to AO3, feel free to add your creations to the TML_10yrfest collection.

Please read the FAQ before sending an Ask if you have questions. Additionally, you may join our Discord server, and ask the event hosts in the server directly.

HOW DO PROMPTS WORK?

The themes of each week are dedicated to the episode that aired. You can write fix-it fics for each episode, or fanart related to that episode, or use the word prompts or color prompts for whatever you make. The content you make doesn’t have to be specific to that episode or an ‘episode tag’ art/fic necessarily.

The prompts are meant to inspire you, not box your creative muse in. You can interpret the prompts as literally or loosely as you want.

The only prompt requirement is that whatever you create is set in or around the canon era Merlin universe. The fest aims to celebrate the show Merlin and it’s original setting. As great as fusions, fandom crossovers, and modern setting AU content are, this is not the fest for that.

RULES

You may combine this fest with other ongoing challenges (ie: Merlin Bingo, Kinkalot, etc).

Each prompt week opens from the point at which the episode would have aired. However, there won’t be a deadline for when you post a prompt if it’s from an earlier week, and you have until the 25th of December to post. There will also be an amnesty week after the 25th for anyone who couldn’t post their fills in time. We understand it’s a hectic season for most of us. The event will officially end (and the AO3 collection will close) on January 1st, 2023.

In the interest of fairness, all pairings (or none, if you prefer to create gen/platonic works) are welcome.

The last rule is to have fun. Please do not stress if you aren’t inspired for every prompt, and have fun creating!

Welcome to another Arena! Signups have officially closed and Bronze Round will begin at noon EST on November 17th. However, we are doing things slightly differently this time, so please read on below for your team assignments and Master classes.

How this event will work:

In the past, signups included inventories as well, and when teams were revealed, so were the enemies. This time, however, teams have already been sorted and you will have roughly 24 hours to decide on your inventories within your Master class constraints. Take a look at this document for your team assignment! And this sheet for your muse's class!

Each muse has been assigned a Master class, but you will not have access to this class until Gold round. Instead, you will be selecting inventory and classes within the ranks of your assigned class. For example, Bronze round has a rank restriction of C rank or lower. If your muse has been assigned Gremory, you will have access to Mage, Dark Mage, Priest, Monk, and Commoner/Noble, as well as any Reason or Faith ability at C rank or lower. Note: Dancer class will be accessible to everyone beginning Silver round.

The class that you choose every round will influence how many inventory slots you have. Keep this in mind when selecting inventories. Beginner = 2 slots Intermediate (includes Dancer) = 3 slots Advanced = 4 slots Master = 5 slots

Each round has the following constraints: Bronze = C rank or lower Silver = B+ rank or lower Gold = You will have access to your Master class, and can choose one rank within that Master class to bump to S+. Bringing back the Gremory example, you could choose to bump Reason to S+ and select any ability from the Reason category, while leaving Faith at A rank.

Combat arts do not take up an inventory slot and can be equipped permanently to ONE weapon per inventory selection. If you decide to have your muse bring an Iron Sword, they can also equip the combat art Wrath Strike, but if they also choose to bring a Steel Sword for their second inventory slot, Wrath Strike will only be allowed to be used with the Iron Sword until inventories are re-selected for the next round.

The current schedule is as follows: Bronze: Nov 17 (noon) - 21 (midnight) Silver: Nov 22 (noon) - 26 (midnight) Gold: Nov 27 (noon) - Dec 1 (midnight)

Inventories should be submitted by pinging the Scorekeeper role within the server.

Lastly, we'd like to remind you that the theme of this arena will be Class Kits and Narrative, with a heavy emphasis on Narrative. During the waiting period before the start of Bronze round, you're free to interact with your teammates via asks or short threads. We also hope that the longer rounds will make it easier to develop meaningful interactions during the event. We received a number of feedback responses for last arena about the lack of interaction from teammates, and we agree that it’s a bummer when you write a fun reply and your teammates seem to not have even read it. For this reason, teams will not be required to reach a certain HP threshold with their enemies to pass to the next round. Instead, the mod team will be looking at team activity. No longer than 12 hours should pass between posts and you should constantly be communicating with your teammates to ensure that your team is moving. We will disqualify any muse who has gone a significant amount of time without posting, or who has been overall dragging their team down.

After a mass exodus of “critical” workers at Twitter, raising fears that the site might not continue to operate reliably, some users might be thinking it’s a good time to preserve years of tweets and other data.

Twitter provides a method to download your data that is, in theory, not difficult. It depends on the service functioning, and as of Friday, there were already visible cracks in the infrastructure.

But if all goes well, here’s how you can download your data from Twitter, including your tweets, attached photos and videos, direct messages, likes, lists and Moments.

On a desktop

While logged into your account, click “More” in the left column. Then select “Settings and Support,” then “Settings and privacy.”

Under “Your account,” select “Download an archive of your data.”

You will have to input your Twitter password, and it will then email or text you a verification code that also needs to be entered. As of Friday, there were widespread reports of the text option not working, but the email option appeared to work.

After submitting your password and the verification code, hit the big, blue button that says “Request archive.”

Once you’ve requested your data, it’s time to sit back and hope. Twitter says “it can take 24 hours or longer for your data to be ready,” but that’s in the best of times. Good luck.

On iOS and Android

Tap on your profile photo in the top-left corner, scroll down to “Settings and Support,” and then select “Settings and privacy.” Tap on “Your account,” then “Download an archive of your data.” You will be asked to sign into Twitter. Then follow the steps from above.

Once you have your data

When your archive is ready — if it becomes ready — you’ll get a notification from Twitter, allowing you to download a file to explore. Some may need their data for professional purposes, while others may reminisce fondly on their greatest hits, looking at it about as often as they look at their high school yearbooks.

The archive will include an .html file that you’ll be able to open in your web browser, making it easier to page through the data without any technical know-how, according to The Verge. It includes a search box to find old tweets, and filters that can help narrow down the search.

WIP Update - 31 Aug 2022

A fairly productive week - I touched 6 fics (4 WIPs & 2 new works) for a total of 2024 words. @psychiccatpanda and I posted Chapter 4 of our Stucky --> Stuckony non-traditional a/b/o WIP and a Steve POV ficlet where he learns about asexuality over on Ao3 and I wrote & posted a Stony a/b/o ficlet for Flash Fiction Friday that also fills my Omega Steve square on my Steve Rogers Bingo card.

I’m up to 12 active WIPs (with a couple of maybe TBCs) with my current deadlines being my submission for the @reforgedzine and @avengersbingo .

See below cut for the WIPs (arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc) I am working on - feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects (or any other WIPs I’ve got out there) – they really help feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

Suck-tember [ Runs thru 30 Sep]

As you might guess from the name, @suck-tember is a writing event focused on oral gratification. I read through the list of prompts and decided to try to combine a few with my bingo squares.

* Day 2: Swollen: Finished the rough draft of Chapter 2 of Mutual Pinning this morning; it’s basically ThunderShield (Steve/Thor) smut with a focus on oral sex, leading into a third chapter of full on sex. Currently sitting at 1361 words.

Reforged - A WinterIron Zine [Deadline 12 Nov]

I got accepted to submit a 1k-3.5k fic for this project, and have submitted a basic idea & completed my first checkin. Am poking at it little by little; it’s sitting at 1901 words - so just over halfway done word-wise. Plot wise? That’s still TBD… I have very broad strokes in mind that are going to be tricky to get done in the words I have left… :: eek::

Avengers Bingo [AvB] (Runs thru 24 Dec)

Five fills posted and 0 WIPs - I decided to further challenge myself on this 16-square card by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers, with the final square being PolyVengers. With the help of the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks - I’ve got all 16 squares planned out, at least in terms of who to write about, and half of them have some sort of idea or crossover square to go along with them. Feel free to toss other plot bunnies my way…

Fani Willis Files Desperate Effort to Counter New Cellphone Data, but It's a Big Dud

On Friday, we reported about new cellphone data that the Trump team presented regarding the relationship between Fulton Country DA Fani Willis and the special prosecutor that she appointed in the Trump election case, Nathan Wade.

The cellphone data appeared to show Wade making at least 35 visits to the Hapeville neighborhood where Fani Willis was living before the district attorney hired him, including at times in the middle of the night when he also communicated with her.

On one occasion, on Sept. 11, 2021, Wade’s phone left the Doraville area and arrived in the vicinity of Willis’ Hapeville address at 10:45 p.m. The phone remained there until 3:28 a.m. and could later be seen arriving in East Cobb at 4:05 a.m., shortly before Wade sent a text to Willis, the affidavit said. Similarly, Wade’s phone left the East Cobb area the night of Nov. 29, 2021, after receiving an 11:32 p.m. call from Willis, the affidavit said. It arrived in Hapeville at 12:43 a.m. and remained there until 4:55 a.m., the affidavit added.

His data also showed more than 2000 calls between the two, and about 10,000 text messages, before they were supposedly romantically involved.

Many found that damning, including a former Fulton County assistant district attorney Darryl Cohen.

On Friday, Willis filed a response. But the response was fascinating for what it didn't say. It challenged the data on procedural grounds, seeking to get it excluded. She also said the data didn't "prove" that there was a relationship.

The records do not prove, in any way, the content of the communications between Special Prosecutor Wade and District Attorney Willis; they do not prove that Special Prosecutor Wade was ever at any particular location or address; they do not prove that Special Prosecutor Wade and District Attorney Willis were ever in the same place during any of the times listed in Supplemental Exhibit 38

What the filing doesn't do is deny that Wade was at her home on those two occasions mentioned above, Sept. 11 and Nov. 29.

Instead, as lawyer Technofog explains, Willis submitted calendar entries for other dates, not the above dates.

Willis claimed in the filing that the data "did not prove anything relevant" and had "little evidentiary value." She's the only one who thinks so.

When Trump attorney Steve Sadow was questioning Wade during the hearing, he asked him specifically about visiting the Hapewell address and Wade stepped right into it.

SADOW: So if phone records were to reflect that you were making phone calls from the same location as [Willis'] condo before November 1, 2021 and it was on multiple occasions, the phone records would be wrong? WADE: If the phone records reflected that, yessir.

Whoops, that might be a bit of a problem now for Wade.

So, nothing in the filing truly rebuts what the cellphone data reveals, they're just hoping the judge will rule the information out.

We'll have to see what the judge says, but it's going to be hard for the judge to walk around all the evidence.
