Trump, DeSantis Reportedly Meet Privately in Florida
Tumblr media
With an early May donor retreat in Palm Beach coming up with potential 2024 GOP vice presidential candidates, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has reportedly met privately with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The onetime allies turned bitter primary rivals met Sunday in Miami, and DeSantis has agreed to help Trump's campaign in some capacity, sources told The Washington Post.
Trump and DeSantis had not spoken since before the 2024 primary cycle, but they broke the silence between them as the Trump campaign hopes to tap into what was a strong DeSantis donor network, sources told the Post.
Unlike former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, DeSantis suspended his primary campaign after Iowa and before the New Hampshire polls closed and immediately endorsed Trump.
The reunion was orchestrated by mutual acquaintance and Florida real estate broker Steve Witkoff, who reached out to the Trump campaign to help reconnect DeSantis to Trump, according to the Post.
"It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance," DeSantis said in a video message. "They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him."
Trump has made amends with onetime critics before, showing he does not hold grudges for Republicans who come back to join the cause.
Newsmax reached out to DeSantis communications director Bryan Griffin via email on the report and has not yet heard back.

WATCH: Iranian MMA Fighter Finds Out After He Kicks Ring Girl in Buttock
youtube
Earlier this month, an Iranian MMA fighter caused a controversy in Moscow at an event by Hardocre, the Russian equivalent of Bare Knuckles. Ali Heibati appeared on April 19 for his Hard Fighting Championship (HFC) debut bout against Arkady Osipyan of Armenia. But before the match began, Heibati kicked the ring girl, only identified as Maria, in the buttock as she displayed the round card for the audience and cameras.
The woman turned around in clear surprise, expressing her anger before the referee intervened to separate them, warning the fighter about his behavior. The Iranian's bout lasted only 30 seconds before the referee waived it off and stopped it. After Osipyan walked back to his corner, Heibati leaped up and began attacking him from behind, landing multiple cheap shots. This prompted several people to enter the cage to separate the two fighters as they awaited the official decision, where Heibati was defeated by  technical knockout.
Following the fight, Heibati grabbed the microphone and seemed frustrated by something said to him, directing a kick toward a commentator and engaging in heated exchanges with him. Footage has surfaced showing Heibati being attacked by members of the crowd after his loss.
Some sources say that the Muslim fighter kicked the ring girl for religious reasons including that she wasn't wearing a hijab.
Heibati claimed in a confusing social media post that he did it because of tensions from fistfights that happened before the match, stating that he just wanted to go out and fight.
Heibati wrote:
Hello everyone. This is for Maria. I didn’t act right with her. The reason was that before the MMA fight there were a lot of fistfights. I stayed there in the cage and I just wanted to go out and fight. I was tense and, as most understand, emotions flourish in the fight, so before the fight, I acted badly towards María. I want to publicly apologise to her. I am a married man, so I respect the female gender. She was doing her job and I, after the fight, didn't admit my guilt either, because they also hit me on the head. Tell María that I am sorry.
Hardcore responded to the incident in their own social media post, which featured a video of what appears to be the ring girl looking incredibly uncomfortable next to the Iranian fighter who kicked her. In the caption, Hardcore announces a lifetime ban on the fighter and a fine that will be transferred to Maria, the ring girl.
What happened in today's live broadcast is beyond all moral and ethical standards. No one has any right to touch, let alone beat the staff, employees and partners of Hardcore Media. Moreover, such marginal behavior is absolutely unacceptable towards women. Loosening your hands towards ladies is the lowest a man can go to. ⠀ The League decided that in the context of the current situation, the apologies already made by Ali Heibati are absolutely not enough. He will be fined for his fee, and the entire amount will be transferred to ring-girl Maria. ⠀ Also, all participants of mass backstage fights will be disqualified and removed from appearances in Hardcore media promotions. At this moment, we are identifying all the names and culprits who have participated in these acts of unsportsmanlike behavior. ⠀ Respect yourself, respect each other, respect the code of honor and simple moral values. Respect the behavioral norms of the civilized society you are part of. ⠀ With respect and sincere apologies to our audience, your Hardcore.
Heibati truly messed around and "found out" as he suffered a loss in what will be his first and last HCF fight, was jumped by the crowd, and ended up with a lifetime ban.

This Is How You Do It: Cal Poly Rips 'Lawless Behavior' of Protesters, 'Nothing to Do With Free Speech'
Tumblr media
We’ve seen endless pro-Hamas, antisemitic protests breaking out at universities across the nation—but what’s arguably worse is witnessing the administrations of these institutions and many folks in the leftist corporate media condoning these hateful, violent campus takeovers and coddling the radical students like they’re little well-meaning babies.
But one school in California (surprisingly) is calling these actions out for what they are: “lawless behavior” that has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with vandalism, violence, and discrimination.
The school is California State Polytechnic University in Humboldt, and on Sunday they issued a hard-hitting statement to the brats who have commandeered two academic buildings and named one of them "Intifada Hall."
Disgusting behavior. “Intifada” is a word many take to mean “kill Jews,” but it’s unclear if these radical protesters know that—or even care. Here’s what it’s been like lately getting your "education" at Poly:
The situation could heat up Monday, according to leftists on social media who predict police action and also exhort their comrades to make a stand.
The school’s statement starts out with all the usual academic bromides, but then unexpectedly takes a sterner tone:
Since the beginning, the University’s concern has not been the protest itself.  We have a long history of activism and civic engagement on this campus, and we unequivocally support the rights of students and others to assemble peacefully, to protest, and to have their voices heard.  The concern in this case is the ongoing unlawful occupation of campus buildings by students and non-students and other criminal acts (e.g., vandalism, theft, destruction of state property and intimidation of University employees).  These ongoing occupations have also created safety hazards for those who have barricaded themselves inside, blocking exits to the building.
Fair enough. But at this point, the administration takes a different approach than the weak-kneed, capitulation we’ve seen from so many schools:
This has nothing to do with free speech or freedom of inquiry.  It is lawless behavior that has harmed the vast majority of our students whose education has been interrupted, damaged the reputation of our school, and drained resources from the accomplishment of our core educational purpose. [Bolding mine.]
It’s almost amazing that we are shocked to see a school actually saying the right thing—that's how far the reputations of our institutions of “higher education” have fallen.
The school points out that rather than being a cutesy, peaceful protest by big-hearted young idealists, it actually reeks more of gang violence, and the damage will be in millions:
While it’s too early to assess the cost of illegal activities, we estimate it to be in the millions. That includes damage done by theft, vandalism and graffiti, and the supplies and personnel needed to repair that, in addition to the loss of revenue from disruption to University operations.
More profound than the loss of property, however, Cal Poly points out another loss that is much more important:
But the true cost has been the disruption of the education of our students who came here to learn and get a college degree.
Kudos to them. The question hanging in the air, though, is why aren’t more colleges and universities condemning hateful behavior instead of condoning it?

Reporter Whiff on Who's At Fault for the Surge of Antisemitism on College Campuses
Tumblr media
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry: the most antisemitic thing on college campuses is that—get this—presidents are so afraid of the GOP and their job security that it's “goaded” them into using Jews as political weapons. How far gone do you have to be here?
It’s not the openly antisemitic calls for Israel to be destroyed or for all Jews to die. It’s not the pro-Hamas propaganda that’s spread through colleges like a brushfire.
Hey, it’s not even the kids who bring the signs with the caption “final solution” on them, a reference to the Nazi Holocaust. It’s the Republican Party who are using college presidents to weaponize the Jewish vote or something.
It boggles the mind. Columbia University’s president said terrorism was another form of protest. I doubt she’s fearing for her job; none of these people fear that the GOP will strip them of their employment.
Hordes of pro-Hamas and antisemitic students screaming to kill all the Jews isn’t the most antisemitic thing; it’s the GOP. This post is truly something to behold.
The reactions to this post were brutal, but true:

Trump Responds To Biden, Jost Jabs Made At WH Correspondents’ Dinner
Tumblr media
Former President Donald Trump has responded to jabs made against him at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, saying the night’s event was “really bad.”
“The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was really bad. Colin Jost BOMBED, and Crooked Joe was an absolute disaster! Doesn’t get much worse than this!,” he wrote on his Truth Social profile.
President Joe Biden and Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost mocked Trump during the dinner event.
On Saturday, Biden took digs at Trump during his speech, poking fun at his falling out with former Vice President Mike Pence.
“Age is the only thing we have in common. My vice president actually endorses me,” Biden, 81, said during his speech.
The president moved on to Trump’s criminal trial in New York, where he is accused of falsifying business records as part of a so-called “hush money case.”
“Donald has had a few tough days lately. You might call it Stormy weather,” he said, in reference to adult performer Stormy Daniels.
Jost later joined, also taking jabs at the former president for “falling asleep in court.”
“It’s after 10 p.m. ‘Sleepy Joe’ is still awake while Donald Trump has spent the past week falling asleep in court every morning – though Fox News said he was just being anti-woke,” Jost later quipped.
Despite the comedic atmosphere, the event did not escape a storm of in-party criticism leveled against the Biden administration.
Protesters gathered outside the venue demanding they voice support for Palestinians and accusing Biden of enabling a genocide.
The Biden White House and Congressional lawmakers from both parties have decried such demonstrations as anti-Semitic.

Poll: Biden Is The Least Popular U.S. President In 70 Years, Below Nixon And Carter
Tumblr media
A new poll has revealed that United States President Joe Biden is the least popular commander in chief in the last 70 years, behind Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon.
On Friday, a Gallup Poll found in a survey that Biden, 81, had a despairing 38.7% job approval rating for the first quarter of 2024, which is three points less than that of the one-term George H.W. Bush at the same point in his reign.
During his most recent 13th quarter in office, which started on January 20th and ended on April 19th, Biden averaged 38.7% job approval. Since Dwight Eisenhower, none of the other nine presidents elected to a first term have performed worse than Biden in the 13th quarter average.
“With about six months remaining before Election Day, Biden stands in a weaker position than any prior incumbent,” the poll stated.
— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) April 28, 2024
In contrast, at this stage in his presidency, former President Donald Trump had an approval rating of 46.8%.
The poll found that Eisenhower had the greatest rating at 73.2%, while even Nixon and Carter had ratings at 53.7% and 47.7%.
Since Eisenhower’s administration began in 1952, Gallup has conducted presidential approval surveys, the results of which have been a reliable indicator of reelection success.
Every incumbent who has had an approval rating above 50% for the previous seven decades has, on average, been reelected to a second term. The only candidate to defy the tendency was former president Barack Obama, who won in 2012 despite having a 46% approval rating six months before the general election.
With approval ratings that are among the lowest of the post-World War II era and in the bottom 12% of all presidential quarters dating back to 1945, Biden’s performance this quarter ranks among the worst of all first-term presidents in Gallup’s history.
While Biden’s support in Gallup polls has dropped to a new low this quarter, it has been stuck in the low 40s since the first year of his presidency due to a combination of catastrophic events like the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan, a deteriorating border situation, and increasing inflation.
According to Gallup, President Biden has the lowest popularity rating of any elected chief executive in contemporary American history after 39 months in office:
Dwight D. Eisenhower (1956): 73.2%
Ronald Reagan (1984): 54.5%
Richard Nixon (1972): 53.7%
Bill Clinton (1996): 53.0%
George W. Bush (2004): 51.0%
Jimmy Carter (1980): 47.7%
Donald Trump (2020): 46.8%
Barack Obama (2012): 45.9%
George H.W. Bush (1992): 41.8%
Joe Biden (2024): 38.7%

Trump Blasts RFK Jr. as 'Wasted Protest Vote,' 'Radical Left'
Tumblr media
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not only removing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from nascent chatter of being a potential running mate, he is calling him "a WASTED PROTEST VOTE" that is even more "Radical Left" than President Joe Biden and his "Green New Scammers."
"RFK Jr. is a Democrat 'Plant,' a Radical Left Liberal who's been put in place in order to help Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, get Re-Elected," Trump wrote in the first of three continuous posts Friday night on Truth Social.
"A Vote for Junior' would essentially be a WASTED PROTEST VOTE, that could swing either way, but would only swing against the Democrats if Republicans knew the true story about him."
Despite past praise of Kennedy for his independent positions and breaking from Democrats and Biden, Trump exposed the "Radical Left" positions his third-party opponent espouses.
"Junior' is totally Anti-Gun, an Extreme Environmentalist who makes the Green New Scammers look Conservative, a Big Time Taxer and Open Border Advocate, and Anti-Military/Vet..."
Trump added the famed Democrat family might have rejected Kennedy for his independent ideas, but conservatives should reject him, too, in November.
"Page 2: His Radicalized Family will never allow him to be a Republican, and his Chief 'Funder' is the V.P. Candidate that nobody ever heard of, except her ex-husband, who's been stripped of a big chunk of cash," Trump continued in the second post. "She puts herself down as a businesswoman, or maybe a doctor, and actually, I guess you could say that she's right. Her business was doing surgery on her husband's wallet!
"She's more Liberal than Junior' by far, not a serious person, and only a Pot of Cash to help get her No Chance Candidate on the Ballot..."
Energy-conscious Republicans cannot vote for an extreme environmentalist like Kennedy, Trump added.
"Page 3: I lived with RFK Jr. in New York and watched him convince Governor [Andrew] Cuomo to make Environmental moves that were outright NASTY," Trump wrote in his third Truth Social post. "Upstate New York was not allowed to drill or frack as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and others ripped off New York Energy.
"Because of this, prices have skyrocketed all over that part of the Country, but especially Upstate New York and New England. Their Energy Costs are the highest in the U.S., with the exception of California, run by Gavin Newscum [Newsom], the Worst Governor in the State's History."
Even Biden would do less damage to the U.S., Trump concluded.
"I'd even take Biden over Junior', because our Country would last a year or two longer prior to collapse — But it would be dead either way," Trump wrote, smashing his opponent on "FAKE" anti-vaccine views.
"His Views on Vaccines are FAKE, as is everything else about his Candidacy. Let the Democrats have RFK Jr.
"They deserve him!"

Pro-Hamas Protester Squealing Like a Stuck Pig As Trooper Carries Her Away Is Gen-Z Personified
Tumblr media
Pro-Hamas "encampments" continue to plague campuses across the nation, with some universities taking action while others have capitulated. Columbia University officials have chosen to bend the knee, pledging not to call in law enforcement to clear out the trespassing terrorist supporters.
Still, other schools are taking a more, shall we say, hands-on approach. At the University of Texas, an attempt at setting up an encampment was quickly quashed by Texas DPS, producing some high-quality content in the process.
READ: Texas DPS Shows Up at a Pro-Hamas Protest, and Beautiful Chaos Follows
Emory University in Georgia also called in the police, and the results were something to behold. In one instance, a professor struck an officer only to be tackled to the ground and charged with battery. Despite claims that from activists that she was being abused, the professor admitted to the act as she was being hauled off in handcuffs.
WATCH: Pro-Hamas Professor Who Tried to Claim Privilege Gives Her Lawyers an Aneurysm with Admission
In short, these "protests" have produced some very satisfying videos, but with that said, I might have found the best one of the bunch. It was also taken at Emory University and perfectly personifies the Gen-Z entitlement culture that normal Americans find so disturbing.
Pro-tip to the terror simps: Don't try to go limp on a dude who lifts. The officer was not playing around and neither were his biceps.
Listening to the woman (that seems to be the going theory) squealing like a stuck pig that she's being "hurt" is hilarious, but it's also telling. These people are "social justice warriors" and "revolutionaries" right up until the consequences arrive. Then they want to call a time-out and cry like babies.
What if I told you these are the leaders of tomorrow, though? And what if I told you no one in leadership has shown even half the necessary gumption to stop that from happening? Suddenly, these videos aren't quite as funny. They just become sad and depressing.
Oh, who am I kidding? They are still pretty funny.
America has a choice to make. Right now, its institutions have been inundated with people intent on tearing down the "system" in the name of "justice." Replacing it is a system based on grievance and faux oppression, where merit is dismissed and identity rules all. Does that sound like a good thing for the country? If not, then those currently in power have to take action. Defund these universities, and tax their endowments. Shut this nonsense down before it becomes an unstoppable wildfire of wokeness.

Bill Barr Scoffs at Suggestions Trump Wants to Kill His Enemies, Says Press Takes Him 'Too Literally'
Tumblr media
Bill Barr, who served as attorney general under Donald Trump, laughed off suggestions from the biased media that the former president actually wants to have his political enemies murdered in cold blood.
Although Barr and Trump's relationship soured after the former AG refused to back some of the 45th president's arguments that the 2020 election was stolen from him, Barr surprised some when he endorsed Trump in the '24 race.
See:
Trump Responds to Bill Barr's Endorsement As Only He Can in Humorous Fashion
Barr continued to defend the former president Thursday when he appeared on CNN's "The Source" with host Kaitlan Collins and said that the biased press takes Trump "too literally" when he uses obviously sarcastic rhetoric and that they often try to drum up controversy when there is none there. Actually, that last part about drumming up controversy is my take, but it's the natural conclusion from Barr's remarks.
"Journalists" took the completely normal use of the word "bloodbath" and turned it into a national outcry, yet were dead silent when crazed Democrats accused Biden's chief political rival of wanting to execute people.
Compare and Contrast:
Media Fail Compilation: 'Bloodbath' Headlines in Lockstep With DNC Talking Points
Unhinged Hillary Clinton Accuses Trump of Wanting to Be Like Putin and Murder His Enemies
In his conversation with Collins, Barr said Trump was prone to saying outlandish things, but in the end, he simply doesn't "think the threat is there."
Watch (and yes, I know that the CNN chyron unsurprisingly obsesses over other matters):
🚨 Barr inadvertently reveals that Trump called for executions on multiple occasions during his presidency. Barr mentioned that he didn't take these calls seriously, as Trump could be talked out of it befores any executions were “carried out”. pic.twitter.com/7DOe5uOmk1— The Intellectualist (@highbrow_nobrow) April 27, 2024
Here's how it went down, much to the chagrin of the CNN anchor who obviously wanted different answers:
COLLINS: …Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was Trump’s communications director [and who’s now on The View, which tells you all you need to know about her], posted yesterday [Thursday] and said that you were present at a moment when Trump suggested executing the person who leaked information that he went to the White House bunker when those George Floyd protests were happening outside the White House. Do you remember that?  BARR: I remember him being very mad about that. I actually don't remember him saying “executing,” but you know, I wouldn't dispute it… I mean, the president would lose his temper and say things like that. I doubt he would have [laughs] actually carried it out.  COLLINS [aghast]: But… he would say that on other occasions?
You can almost feel Collins' discomfort and annoyance; one can imagine her thinking, "C'mon man! Give me the answer that I want so I can make a viral tweet! Say he wants to kill people, SAY IT!"
But he wasn't buying what she was selling:
BARR: The president, you know, the president had a… I think people sometimes took him too literally and, you know, he would say things like similar to that on occasion to blow off steam. But I wouldn't take him literally every time he did it.  COLLINS: Why not?  BARR: Because at the end of the day, it wouldn't be carried out and you could talk sense into him.  COLLINS [incredulous]: But just because it's not carried out and you could talk sense into him, doesn’t that still mean that the threat is there?
Collins should probably have given up there and then, but I guess she thought she was smart enough to trip him up. She was wrong:
BARR: No. I mean, I think—I don't think the threat is there. The thing that I worry about President Trump is not that he's going to become an autocrat and do those kinds of things.  COLLINS: Why not?  BARR: Because I don't think he would, at the end of the day.  COLLINS [clearly getting annoyed that he’s refusing to play her game]: What's the basis for that, that, that understanding that you have? Is it just your own hunch?  BARR: That's my feeling, having worked for him and seen him in action.  I don't think he would actually go and kill political rivals and things like that.
Barr can be somewhat of a conundrum; he's said things both roundly critical of Trump yet, as noted, recently endorsed him for the presidency anyway. In this interview, however, he's 100 percent correct that Trump's political opponents revel in trying to turn almost anything the former president says into some over-hyped controversy. What makes it more aggravating is that Biden routinely "jokes" about wanting to punch Trump—which would be an obvious act of political violence—yet the press just ignores it.
Eat crow, Kaitlan Collins, and look for another story because this dog isn't hunting.

One University's Warning to Entitled Students: 'Pro-Terrorism Protests Will Not Be Tolerated'
Tumblr media
The University of Florida is setting strict boundaries for students who participate in pro-terrorism protests as the rise of anti-semitism hits college campuses.
Officials at U of Florida issued a stern warning on Friday to pro-Hamas demonstrators, warning such behavior will not be tolerated or risk facing damaging consequences.
According to a memo obtained by Fox Business, the university spelled out what is acceptable and what is not while still allowing students to express their freedom of speech.
The guidelines permit peaceful protests, including verbal expressions of viewpoints and signs. However, tents, sleeping bags, amplified sound, protests inside campus buildings, threats, and violent behavior will immediately result in expulsion for the student.
The university’s warning comes amid aggravated protests who have engaged in threatening behavior toward the Jewish community at schools such as Columbia, Yale, and Harvard.
Several schools have moved to online instruction for the remainder of the semester after Jewish students and faculty members expressed feeling scared to be on campus as pro-terrorism protestors engage in harassing behavior.
“This is Adulting 101: Actions have consequences,” James Wegmann, Vice President of Communications at the University of Florida said.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) stance on the issue aligned with the University of Florida, warning students would face expulsion if they engage in such violent protests.
“At places like Columbia and Yale, Hamas protesters rule the roost, and the universities are too weak and scared to do anything — even as these mobs harass Jewish students and faculty,” DeSantis wrote on X. “If you try that at a Florida university, you are going to be expelled.”
Advocates for the pro-Hamas protests argue that the demonstrations are a form of free speech.
However, DeSantis pointed out that the First Amendment does not include bullying, harassing, or inciting fear in people.
Students have attempted to call some of the university’s bluff after they alerted participants will be expelled, taking the warning lightly.
“We think expulsion is highly unlikely; only students who have been expelled in the movement at Vanderbilt were expelled for touching (‘assaulted’) a police officer. Expulsion is highly unlikely; at Princeton, it requires a committee and we know that at least 2 faculty members who are part of the committee are in the Faculty for Justice in Palestine,” a document from those planning to protest at Princeton University read.
However, Florida Universities are not one to be messed with.
“You do that in Florida at our universities, we are showing you the door,” DeSantis cautioned.
Hundreds of students have already been arrested or suspended for participating in the pro-Hamas encampments that have popped up at numerous universities nationwide.
Following in Florida’s footsteps, the University of Georgia is also refusing to let entitled students violate their policies and incite terrorism on the campus.

Pro-Hamas Protesters Book Room Across From WH Dinner, Fly Palestine Flag
Tumblr media
A group of pro-Hamas protestors booked a Washington, D.C. hotel room and hung a massive Palestine flag at the same time as the White House Correspondents dinner, harassing guests as they walked in.
The Washington Hilton was hosting the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night when Code Pink, a group of left-wing pro-terrorism activists, booked a room and flew a giant Palestine flag outside the window.
“The White House Correspondents' Dinner, traditionally a symbol of journalistic integrity and freedom, has now become a platform that celebrates and endorses the administration's actions," Code Pink’s website read. "The United States media perpetuates anti-Palestinian narratives and ignores Israeli war crimes.”
Code Pink accused the media of "endors[ing]" the Biden Administration's support of Israel.
“The Correspondents' Dinner is nothing more than a celebration and endorsement of the administration's actions. That is not journalism. That is complicity,” the group said.
The pro-Hamas activists shouted and harassed guests as they arrived at the White House, yelling “Shame on you!” And “free, free Palestine!”
“Western media we see you, and all the horrors that you hide,” the protestors, who were dressed in keffiyehs, chanted.
Other pro-terrorism demonstrators lay motionless on the pavement, next to mock-ups of flak vests with “press” insignia.
“You look beautiful in your blood-stained gown,” one protestor shouted at women entering the dinner as they called for a “ceasefire.”
The Democratic Party is facing a divide among voters who say President Joe Biden is not doing enough to help Palestinians despite the Iran-backed Hamas terrorist group committing heinous crimes against Israelis.

Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized After His Return To New York Jail
Tumblr media
Harvey Weinstein was admitted to a hospital for a battery of tests after returning to Rikers Island jail in New York ahead of a court appearance next week.
After being examined by doctors at Rikers, the 72-year-old was brought to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for a more comprehensive examination, according to his lawyer, Arthur Aidala.
Aidala stated that it seems that Weinstein “needs a lot of help, physically.”
“He’s got a lot of problems,” Aidala said. “He’s getting all kinds of tests. He’s somewhat of a train wreck health-wise.”
He was moved to a medical ward at Rikers in New York City on Friday from Mohawk Correctional Facility.
He is expected to appear before a judge after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned by the highest court in New York.
After Weinstein was found guilty of forcing a television and film production assistant to have oral sex with him in 2006 and of rape in the third degree following an attack on an aspiring actress in 2013, he was serving a 23-year sentence at Mohawk.
The New York Court of Appeals shockingly overturned Weinstein’s conviction on Thursday, voting 4–3, after concluding that the judge in the historic #MeToo trial had unfairly tried the former movie mogul by making incorrect decisions, such as permitting women to testify about allegations that were unrelated to the case.
The judge stated that it “erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts” and that the “testimony served no material non-propensity purpose.”
Weinstein was convicted of rape in Los Angeles in 2022, and even though the conviction was overturned, he stayed behind bars. In that instance, he was found not guilty of a charge of sexual battery. Weinstein has also submitted a notice of appeal against that decision.
“Everything is in our power to retry this case and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault,” the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said on Thursday.
The district attorney’s office updated its statement on Friday, stating that their goal was to “center survivors’ experiences and wellbeing in every decision we make, which we will do as we approach the next steps in this case.”
Judge Curtis Farber is set to hear his case on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. in Manhattan Criminal Court.
