Next to Essek, the cat’s tail twitched, and it licked its chops.

The creature in the water deftly fileted a chunk of white flesh with his claws and after a pause, held it up, offering it not to the cat, but to Essek.

Essek blinked.

The pale arm reached higher, bringing the scent of salt and fish and freshly spilled blood to Essek’s nose.

The pale hand emerged once more. It was open and empty this time, and in profile the fingertips appeared rather… sharp. Claws or talons? It scritched the cat under the chin, then behind the ears, to evident feline contentment.
