Happy birthday to Spartan Carter-A259!

Today is his -497th birthday!

Carter was born on Biko and lost his family to a Covenant attack on the colony in 2526. Before he could join the refugee population, he was conscripted into the SPARTAN-III program and was originally assigned to Alpha Company. Alpha Company's intended purpose was deployment to high-risk suicide missions. Carter was deemed too valuable to waste, and he was subsequently separated from Alpha Company and included as part of a Spartan team which provided on-the-field support for the UNSC Army.

When Spartan special forces NOBLE team was assembled, Carter was chosen as its leader. NOBLE participated in the Battle of Reach, largely to slow or interrupt Covenant activity on the planet. Although they were fighting a losing battle, they dealt significant blows to the Covenant advance.

NOBLE's final mission on Reach was to destroy the top-secret Sword Base. While in the base, they discovered Dr. Halsey, who urged them to bring Cortana to the Pillar of Autumn, believing her to be humanity's best bet at survival after Reach's inevitable fall. Carter split NOBLE team's surviving members up: Jun would escort Dr. Halsey to Castle base, while Carter, Emile, and Noble-Six escorted Cortana.

While they were en route to the Autumn, they came under heavy attack, and Carter was seriously injured. He ordered Emile and Six to evacuate and continue their advance on foot while he diverted the attack and covered them in the air. As they made their way, they were unable to continue due to the presence of a Scarab. Knowing that his team had no chance of defeating the Scarab, and recognizing the importance of Cortana, Carter sacrificed his life by flying the Pelican into the Scarab, allowing his team to reach their objective.

noble team headcanons to ease the pain of getting emotionally attached to them all exactly right before they all fucking died. thanks halo reach.

kat headbutts people as a display of affection. carter can't count how many times he's been standing around or just near her and suddenly he's stumbling because she lowered her head and. bonk.

jorge knows how to dance in almost every way imaginable. he taught himself some, learned some from other people, looked the rest up and followed tutorials. in his defense, your honor, he was left unsupervised, and he was bored. he ends up teaching six how to swing dance because he noticed six seemed interested by the motions.

helmet bumps and nuzzles as a display of affection. to people unfamiliar, it looks fucking ridiculous, because they bonk their heads directly against each other's - top to top - and then shake their heads slightly. it makes a kind of awful grating noise sometimes, but it's their equivalent of a nose rub with each other.

"...why does emile look so uncomfortable?" "six." "what? oh, six is staring again, aren't they." "yup." "man.. and they've really been doing that so long it's on their file?" "yeeeeup." "man. i don't like that." "i don't think emile does either."

squabbling over the dumbest shit. jun had to go look up the definition of a marker and a pen to settle a debate about if markers count as pens or not. by definition, they are! kat was delighted with herself, jorge and carter were distraught by the news. six started the debate.

six accidentally dozing off on another member and everyone being astonished by it, seeing as they have that "lone wolf" tendency and all that. and yet, here they are. completely conked out on a teammate's shoulder, snuffling in their sleep happily. (they all have at least three photos of it. mostly for petty blackmail.)

someone accidentally calls jorge "dad" and after they all have their fun teasing that person, they all start doing it. six chokes over a laugh the first time they hear carter do it casually, and laughs harder when jorge responds to it instinctively, before freezing and visibly going ????? at himself, and carter.

"...i love you guys." "we know, jorge." "love you too, dad." "come on, don't get all sappy on us." "ugh, gross. i love you too, big guy." "...." "six, you know you're included in that, right?" "i am??" "six, don't tell me you thought you weren't a part of the team. you're here for a reason. now sit your bitchass down and join the cuddle pile." "i... yes ma'am?"

don't ever let me visit thermopylae cause i know i will start crying and will make a scene in front of the monument to the thespians that fought alongside the spartans.

#through the research and writing of this dissertation i have really bonded with ancient thespians. they're like a distant family to me #and there's something about finally being acknowledged as participants in the defense of thermopylai #and recognizing it wasn't only the 300 spartans #but that 700 thespians supported them. only 1 survived btw #and something about them hosting the largest sanctuary of the muses. goddesses of remembrance #daughters of memory #them being remembered after centuries of erasing them from the collective consciousness ... it really does things to my tiny heart #anyways. i was joking please get me to thermopylae now and greece in general i need to see the helicon and the valley of the muses

Listening to the halo reach soundtrack at work and thinking of spartan Ingo again 🥰🥰🥰

Either he and Emmet separated for Ingo to join the Noble team OR they were both recruited, with Ingo becoming Noble 6 and Emmet Noble 7.

But gaaahhhhh Noble 6 Ingo nervous because he and Emmet have been a team for so long, and he's assigned to noble team alone because they only need one member and he fits what they're looking for.

Ingo is uncertain about where he stands with Noble team, with Carter telling him he can't rely on his brother to have his back only, that he can't go hunting down Emmet when he's in trouble. He has to stay with the team now, and Ingo isn't sure he can. But he stays and gradually begins to fit in. He and Emile grate on each other, but he gets along well with Kat and Jorge. He doesn't see Jun much but when they do interact it's polite. Carter is pleased with how he's fitting in, even if he's talking to Emmet almost every day. There are things he has to dance around, missions they can no longer share, and it's hard because they've never had to keep secrets from each other.

And then the Covenant land on Reach, and all Ingo can tell Emmet at first is that something's gone wrong. And then he's storming a beach with the team, trying to remember when the last time he spoke to Emmet was, promising himself he'll do it as soon as he's back to base. Except then he's in space with Jorge, breaching a Covenant cruiser, and then Jorge is pushing him out of an airlock and everything is happening so fast.

He's creeping through the night with Jun, trying to save civilians, desperately firing at Hunters to try and keep them safe. He goes through all of Reach, seeing his team die and sacrifice themselves so that one, just one, of them might make it. Might pass on what needs to get to the right hands.

And he gets to the ship, and he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he and Emile - bonded slightly after watching Carter take out the scarab for them - might make it. Might be able to reuine with Emmet, with Jun, to mourn the losses of their team, their family, might be able to allow his grief an outlet- and then Emile is stabbed from behind, he's down, and there is no one else that can protect the ship. There is only Ingo. He swallows his nerves and turns around, heads for where Emile was just slain. He takes out the Elites - not without heavy injury - and clears the skies.

And then he is alone.

He's never been alone in his life. There was always Emmet or Elesa, and then there was Noble team. Even when Jorge sacrificed himself he wasn't alone because his team was waiting for him. But now there is no one but Ingo.

And the Elites are coming for him, and there is no escape.

This is my headcanon, and I'm being crazy about it.

The Lacedaemonian dynasty (King Lacedaemon and his descendants) has a sort of "love curse":

Every Spartan royalty (both kings and queens) will meet the love of their lives during their youth.

They proclaim their love at the Eurotas River and will go on dates by the banks.

They will live happily together for many years.

Suddenly, tragedy struck, and they would be separated from their beloved for at least ten years.

The couple will face trials and tribulations when trying to get back together.

After ten years or so, they will be reunited.

And they finally got their final happy ending.

I basically came up with this because of Apollo/Hyacinthus and Menelaus/Helen.

Both are very much in love. Both are torn from each other. Both got back together.

They even have dates by the banks of Eurotas (recorded in Ovid's "Metamorphoses" and Euripides' "Helen")!!! Like what's up with this family and the fricking river???
