Why the Solomonic Tradition?
This probably deserves a more detailed, thought out post (scratch that - not “probably,” it definitely does), but here’s the quick-take, elevator-pitch version:
Solomonic Magick resonates with and satisfies the two sides of my personality:
The Abrahamic Religious side of me that wants to tap into the Celestial Divine and make full use of all aspects of Creation.
And the practical, down to earth side of me that wants to secure my finances, thwart thieves, and make my loud neighbors rue the day they ignored my polite requests they stop having 2am dance parties.
[elevator ding] Have a good one! Let me know if you have any questions!

Importance of Silence in Ritual Magick
Every time I return to Agrippa, I am amazed by what I have forgotten and the knowledge which he provides in the Three Books of Occult Philosophy.
Having grown up with a Christocentric worldview from which I make sense of the mundane and magickal world, the idea of silence has always been prevalent. Note Matthew 7:6 specifically, which says: “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you." The word occult comes from the Latin verb celara meaning "to hide" or the adjective occultus meaning "hidden, concealed, or secret." In antiquity, the secrets provided to practitioners of the occult were considered valuable so much so that they were often disguised, shrouded in ways that only those holding a metaphorical key could understand the original meaning. To prevent the casting of this sacred spiritual knowledge before swine.
Agrippa expands on this idea in Ch. II of Book III where he notes five reasons for silence or circumspection.
Sharing holy matters with profane minds pollutes them. We see this even today when trying to share sacred, but secret truths granted to us by spirits with those who don't understand. Sayings like "mundane over magical" or a push for critical thought are used to lessen its influence or impact on our understanding. When we share these experiences, sometimes it can be to the detriment of the work the spirits are calling us to do. The shine of pearls is sullied by their environment.
Profane minds cannot grasp holy doctrine. Understanding is a gift to give a deeper insight and penetration of divine truths held by faith, not as a transitory enlightenment but as a permanent intuition. In Catholic dogma, this gift of understanding is granted by the Holy Spirit during Confirmation and assists in penetrating revealed truths, but also natural truths in so far as they related to a supernatural end. As St. Thomas Aquinas said, "In this very life, when the eye of the spirit is purified by the gift of understanding, one can ina a certain way see God." (Summa theologicae II-II, q. 69 a.2, ad.3).
The importance of understanding is further echoed in the Stobaei Hermetica: "But avoid converse with the many. Not that I wish you to grudge a benefit to others; my reason for this warning is rather that the many will think you one to be laughed at if you speak to them as I have spoken to you. Like welcomes like; but men that are unlike are never friends..."
3. It allows the divine enlightenment of the doctrine to occur. Everybody has experiences whereby slowing down and listening we are given directions, instructions, or encouragement from the spirits. But by keeping silent about our work, we ensure our motivations are pure and that the intention is to commune with the divine. Too often I think we miss critical personal truths in favor of using magic for public success. As noted in the Corpus Hermeticum 13.8a, "And now, my son, speak not, but keep a solemn silence; so will the mercy come down on us from God."
4. The futility of attempting to express the inexpressible. Sometimes words are incapable of describing our supernatural experiences with spirits and when we do it comes out much less life-changing than it was. There is a reason occultists gather together in communities - just as any common worldview is the base of a religion, so to do our experiences bring us together and set us apart. Only those who have worked with the spirits can fully understand your own experiences.
5. Silence involves a proscription against translation of the doctrines into other languages because the words themselves are holy and embody power. Although this may be my least favorite reason as a grimoire magician eager to find translations of French and German transcripts, I think it holds true. This idea is noted in the Corpus Hermeticum 16.1b-2 as well: "Translation will greatly distort the sense of the writings, and cause much obscurity. Expressed in our native language, the teaching conveys its meaning clearly; for the very quality of sounds...; and when the Egyptian words are spoken, the force of the things signified works in them."
Furthermore, in academic publications such as Invoking Angels by Penn State University Press, there are entire discussions around how the illiterate laity copying down instructions from holy books led to mistakes in translations, a problem noted by translators such as Joseph Peterson, David Rankine, and Stephen Skinner in their meticulous grimoire translations. Exasperated by the enhanced access to manuscripts in the 16th and 17th centuries, you see books such as the Grimoire of Arthur Gauntlet or Book of Oberon with Greek, Latin, and Hebrew translation corrections along with corrections in figures of circles or talismans.
Outside of magick, even, biblical scholars note the loss of Scriptural understanding when reading the Bible in English compared to Greek or even Hebrew, noting minute differences that entirely change the meaning of a text or provide additional context.
Taken together, I think Agrippa makes a solid argument for why keeping silent is important. Do you agree?

Working the Grimorium Verum (P1)
A few weeks ago I decided that I was going to start working the Grimorium Verum. I read and reread and rereread the Grimoire and as much supplemental material as I could get my hands on (I'm referring to all of JsK's pdf books by Hadean Press and that one conjure codex entry by Al Cumins).
Goal/Intent
With that said my primary goal right now is to work towards creating a clay skull, created to the specs Jsk outlined in his notes on the Grimoire in his edition of the book. It is essentially reworking the invisibility spell of the second part into a spell that binds a spirit to the skull. Rather, in his words, "I strongly recommend making a crossroads the place of interment in a reconstruction of this rite using seven coins. The intention of this adaptation would be to make a magical head as a central feature of work with these spirits, a natural extension of the underlying symbolism," (The True Grimoire 160). The only change I am doing to what JsK states is that I am adding grave dirt to the clay for the skull.
The Work I've done thus far
Wednesday, 8/16/23, I began working to get the consecrating the materials necessary for the work. I started the second hour of Mercury at my local graveyard in my town. I asked the spirits of the graveyard to lead me to the grave most suited for my work. I was expecting to be led to a town founder or someone who died violently, rather they sent me to the grave of an old lady who died a hundred years ago on my birthday. This was not intentional on my end. I saw the grave from behind and I felt as though I was being pushed towards it and that it was the right choice for the work. I took the dirt left a coin and promised to pray for her for the next three nights.
I then got home as fast as possible so I could have the second half to craft and consecrate the Asperger and Aspergillus. For the Asperger, I used a black ceramic bowl that I painted the appropriate god names on. For the aspergillus, I took the three herbs, rosemary, (pepper)mint, and oregano (technically you are supposed to use Majoram, but I could not find any in my area and I plan to get the proper plant in the future, but for now both are closely related and I don't think it will do much harm to my work). I consecrated them according to the method in the Third part of the grimoire. Reciting the 7 penitential psalms took long than I thought it would.
Thursday, 8/17/23, in the second hour of Jupiter I engraved a spoon and a knife with Heramael's name and seal. The intention is based out of Goetic Pharamakos, by Jsk where they are used to collect plants in nature for me to work with, such as the branches for the wands. In the 1 night hour of Jupiter I consecrated the two items, however, I slightly adapted the consecration from Jsk's book on Eleogap so that it was to be a general consecration instead of an asperger and aspergillus consecration. The difference between it and the Grimoire's consecration is that it is Thelemic and instead of the psalms it uses chapters 3 and 5 from Liber LXV, which I thought would mean it would be shorter, well it was in the sense that for all things that after you waft the tools of the censer, you are supposed to recite the 7 psalms and psalm 71 and 116, so 21 psalms in total. Personally, I think there is a point where the more you recite over a ritual object the less of an effect it has on it. I could be wrong. Anyhow, below are pictures of the spoon and knife before I consecrated them.
Tumblr media
If you have read this far. I thank you and apologize for the length and potential boringness of this blog post. My goal is to generate interest in the grimoire that is less about conjuring all the spirits in it and more about creating spirit relationships. As well as to document my progress and create discussion.

⭒✮⭒
Naberius; Valiant Marquis of Hell
some basic information.
⭒✮⭒
Who is He? ⇲
Also named Cerberus, Naberius is a fallen angel and the 24th of 72 spirits of solomon. He appears as a crow, a black crane, or a three headed dog much like his greek counterpart. Naberius is described as having a hoarse voice. He teaches about arts and sciences, skills like rhetoric, and helps to restore honor and dignity. Marquis Naberius was first mentioned by Johann Weyer in 1583. In that text, he presents himself as eloquent and amiable. It is unclear if he has a direct association with the greek Cerberus, however, Weyer considered them the same demon.
Excerpt from “The Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King” (1904) ⇲
“NABERIUS. – The Twenty-fourth Spirit is Naberius. He is a most valiant Marquis, and showeth in the form of a Black Crane, fluttering about the Circle, and when he speaketh it is with a hoarse voice. He maketh men cunning in all Arts and Sciences, but especially in the Art of Rhetoric.
He restoreth lost Dignities and Honours. He governeth 19 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, which is to be worn, etc.”
-S.L. MacGregor Mathers
Experiences ⇲
From my own research, Naberius is described as a wonderful teacher who will teach rhetoric, scrying, and other skills useful to one’s practice.
He can help you restore tarnished reputations, and, as a psychopomp, is a wonderful infernal to work with when practicing death Magick.
In the same way, he can help improve your skills in divination thanks to his teachings in communication. He is useful among artists for helping spark creativity and enthusiasm about a project.

𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Forneus
𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Today would be a great day to commit to some writing, especially in regards to poetry or diary work. Take a trip down memory lane and have a good look at where you have come from and how far you have come now. Look at your past and relationships and see how it has or hasn't affected you along your journey, for good or ill. Maybe it will give you some good inspiration for a poem or story, or perhaps writing it in a diary could help you process what has taken place. It is also a great day to get your ideas out there in the world, it's likely whatever it is that you need to communicate will be taken well on this day. In regards to those who have done you wrong in the past it is likely with a clever word you could trick or convince them to change their tone about you and speak good words to your name.
𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗸
“The 30th spirit is called Forneus, he is a mighty great Marquiz, & appeareth in ye forme of a great sea Monster, he Teacheth & maketh men wounderfull knowing in ye art of Rhetoric he causeth men to have a good Name, and to have ye understanding of Tongues; he maketh men to be beloved of their foes as well as they be by their Friends; & he governeth 29 Legions of spirits, partly of ye order of Thrones and partly of angels, his seal is this to be made and worne as aforesaid &.”

Random thoughts about Jophiel because he’s on my mind today
Jophiel truly was my introduction into the occult. My relationship with him has a lot more history than many of my other spirits, even that of Lord Lucifer, so I cherish him very deeply and consider him to be my patron saint. You may notice that I use he/ him pronouns for Jophiel which is unusual. Jophiel has always appeared to me androgynously (of course) but has always seemed to assume a kind of masculine energy, even with all his feminine aspects. He’s kind of like me in that way.
I first “met” Jophiel around the age of 7. I had a very surreal “dream” in which a ghostly figure with luminescent white hair and firey - incomprehensible- blue eyes appeared in my room and explained to me that we were eternally bound. He told me that no matter where I go, he will find me and “keep me in good condition”. Weird dream for a 7 year old to be having!!
(Note: I’m 99% sure Jophiel is not my holy guardian angel- he himself has told me that he is not “the one responsible for that role”)
I remember thinking he was inhumanly beautiful, purely beautiful- so much so that it’s almost uncanny. He is beautiful in a way a human cannot be- the way that a painting or a flower is beautiful. Beyond description.
He’s like a cathedral or an ocean beaming with life, and it affected my idea of beauty for the rest of my life. Jophiel is beauty that is beyond understanding. The beauty in music that makes you tear up without understanding why. The beauty in a poem that makes you strangely melancholy for months. He is aesthetic in itself, the idea of beautiful elements coming together to portray an emotion. He is the beauty of existence and the melancholy of its destruction.
Jophiel always speaks softly, almost muted. In fact he seems to mute the entire world. His energy is shrill, rings extremely high, but he also washes over you like ocean waves, swelling and waning and swelling again in cycles. He is a liminal entity who exists between spaces. He’s someone you have to be very quiet to notice.
Since that first introduction to him I had developed the ability to “see things”. I hold my skepticism close to my chest, but I also cannot deny my experiences. Since the age of 7 or so I have been able to see the energy on certain objects among other things. Perhaps these would be described as “auras”. Sometimes I can see the intentions of others before they act, their energy will swell to a certain direction and then they will take that path seconds later. I don’t want to go to into specifics for fear of sounding crazy or delusional, but Jophiel’s blessing allowed me to somewhat see through the vail when my mind is in the right state. It allowed me to be aware of the energies around me that I cannot see with my own two eyes but with my “third” if that makes sense. I was also given greater access to astral travel. Other witches in my community have described them as the abilities of a “seer”, I believe these abilities came directly from Jophiel. But, again, skepticism skepticism.
About a year or so ago Jophiel started seriously pursuing me, maybe even haunting me for months in my dreams. He showed me a lot of incomprehensible cryptic symbolism and visions, seemingly in hopes to get me to take my craft more seriously and stop questioning whether my reality is real. In order to understand how to use my abilities I’d have to first stop questioning their existence- and this is when I took up Jophiel as my patron more seriously. I genuinely believed that I was losing my mind at this point, things became very clear and that was very confusing. Angels don’t care how much or little you believe in them, when they have a job for you to do they will make you believe, whether you want to or not.
Jophiel can be stern, terrible and terrifying. He is the angel with the flaming sword. He is not at all afraid to get serious by any means, and he has most definitely put me in my place a couple times. He is the strength and wisdom that is required to protect beauty as well as the beauty itself. Jophiel doesn’t need to yell- in fact he doesn’t need to say anything at all to get his point across. He really doesn’t tolerate disrespect, as kind as he is he is still an Archangel with legions of angels beneath him.
I thoroughly believe his purpose was to prepare me for the other magical relationships I later developed with his assistance. Jophiel and Lucifer (and Haniel) are extremely merciful and understanding of human mistakes and clumsiness. Other spirits are not so much. Jophiel made it very clear to me that my angelic work needed to lay the foundation for my work with the infernals. My boundaries and protections needed to be strong in order to delve into the darkness unscathed.
We now have a relationship where he will sometimes show me visions that I will then use as inspirations for drawings. He seems to really enjoy this, saying once that “his will has become real in my material though the intentions of my hands”.
Jophiel has appeared to me in a variety of forms. Sometimes he is not a person, but a place. An oasis in a desert or a field of lavender. He is music and art in every form, but also wisdom. The art and wisdom of maths and sciences and sacred geometry. The geometry that builds your cells and arranges your atoms.
Sometimes he is gargantuan, so tall that I cannot see the top of him like a mountain. Sometimes he is so bright that I fear he will burn my eyes out of my skull. He speaks quietly but he can also be VERY LOUD! Because of his raw intensity I only summon him once every few months. It takes a long time and requires weeks of submerging myself deep in prayer. Jophiel adores prayer.
I see many people equate Jophiel to a happy cheerful young girl. To me he is always pleasant, but not necessarily a happy go lucky ball of sunshine. Don’t get me wrong, he is literally a ball of sunshine- he is pure light and love. But his immense wisdom creates a sense of quietness in him- nuance. He is aware of the cycle of creation and destruction- how beautiful things can become ugly and how ugly things are beautiful. How beauty is so subjective and therefore adaptive. He isn’t a stereotypical portrayal of beauty and love- not at all.
While other spirits represent more carnal love of the flesh and lust, Jophiel is more oriented towards the love of culture, the love of the natural beauty of the world, the love a child has for a stuffed toy, or the love a painter feels towards a flower. In fact I would go as far as to describe Jophiel as a virgin goddess. He has actually told me himself that he does not like to be sexualized, although he has nothing against sex in general it is not his greatest sphere of influence.
Many occultists have corresponded Jophiel with Saturn and Jupiter, as a wise and capable guardian. I personally believe that Jophiel is also Venusian. I believe he is among the spirits that embody the principles of Venus. This is more of a upg based off of my experiences with him and his leading me towards Archangel Haniel and Lord Lucifer. They are extremely familiar and have good opinions of each other.
The last time I saw Jophiel was a few nights ago in my dreams. He was accompanied by a legion of angels behind him (fucking wild to see, they look like a bunch of glowing goo that shifts around and oscillates when they’re all together like that) and he basically said “Hi, it’s nice to see you but I’m really busy right now, okay bye!” and I thought that was really funny.
He always likes to answer whenever I call even if it’s just to tell me that he’s unavailable which is really really nice. Not even Faviel does that for me lol.
Anyways, that was just a bunch of brain vomit about my relationship with Jophiel. I really do love him so much. Maybe I’ll make a post about ways to better connect with him some time for those who are interested.
I usually end these posts off with “Ave ___!” as a devotional send off, but angels work a little differently than that, so I’ll just say thank you Jophiel for everything that you’ve given me and everything that you are. You are my dear friend and I wish you well. May we meet again soon.

Scrying, A History And Guide To One Of The World's Oldest Practices ~ by W.S
Scrying is a subcategory in the Art of Divination, in its simplest form, scrying is gazing into the surface of an object and allowing the mind to wander, opening oneself up to the other side allowing images and words into your brain from an external non-physical source. Basically Hallucinating Without the use of Drugs.
Tumblr media
Scrying Throughout The Ages
Babylonia
Scrying has been practiced for thousands of years. Our modern history holds Babylonia as the earliest written record of the practice, they put water in bowls alongside droplets of oil. This process was known as lecanomancy a subcategory of hydromancy, and the scryers would read the shapes the oil made within the water to divine possible futures or speak with the dead. The practice spread and later it became more common to simply use water as it was a naturally reflective surface.
Hebrew Bible
The Hebrew Bible Briefly Goes over an object which is supposedly used for scrying in Chapter 44 of The Book Of Genesis. A silver chalice is placed inside Benjamin's Sack to frame him for theft. In his trial, it is stated that the chalice is used for divination, but in the Book Of Genesis, it is never expressly stated he actually did any Divination.
Ancient Persia
The Ancient Persian Epic The Shahnameh, from the 10th Century, details a mystical object known as The Cup Of Jamshid, which was said to be used by ancient Persian kings to Observe the "Seven Layers Of The Universe". The Cup Of Jamshid is said to have been first used in Persepolis, which existed from 518-330 BCE.
John Dee and Sir Edward Kelley
In 1582, John Dee sought the guidance of one of the most famous scryers of the time Sir. Edward Kelley. It was through his teachings that John Dee was able to crack the code of proper visualization and begin to transcribe what he believed to be the voices of angels. They guided him to create Angelical or as it's known today, Enochian.
Scrying and its modern-day PreConceptions
Scrying has garnered much popularity in Hollywood's portrayal of witches, in the TV Show Charmed, witches use scrying to find lost objects or the location of Demons. In Supernatural it allows for a witch to see things from a great distance away. And while yes it is true that one can hone these skills to a degree of supernatural clarity, I would be lying if I said it was as Visually stunning in real life.
The Reality is in the Modern Era, Scrying allows one to commune with the spirits of their ancestors and commune with the other side just as it has always been. And with those trained in the art of divination, one can read the past and future of a person or kingdom. The theatrics of modern television paint scrying as a showcase of our abilities, but to the uninitiated when they see someone scrying, they are often unprepared for how dull it is. When a person is scrying and is in a trance, their eyes go dead as they allow their mind to wander. These trance states are what allow one to see past the veil and into the supernatural realm. But to external viewers, it is rather boring, to say the least. This is why you won't often see a practitioner scrying in front of people who haven't the foggiest idea of its nuances.
Simple Scrying Ritual For Communing With Ancestral Spirits By W.S
To begin scrying safely one must understand the dangers, you are preparing to go into the world of the supernatural, the things you see can see you as well and you must be aware that they can leave a permanent scar on your psyche if abused in any manner. Go into it with wards up and confidence in your abilities.
This scrying ritual is used to commune with the spirits of one's own ancestors and when done properly can allow you to have conversations and get advice from them.
Opus Est
Patience
Candle
Dark Room
Mirror
Sacred Water
Oil
Salt
Before anything, one must prep the mirror for communing with the Ancestral Spirits, To do this mix together one part water, salt, and oil into a slurry. Dipping the left ring finger into the mixture begin drawing the pentacle in each corner of the mirror, connecting each pentacle with a line following the edge of the mirror as shown below
Tumblr media
As you are drawing on the pentacles, feel free to use the below chant, but you may change it to your liking so long as the main goals are the same.
" Lock This Mirror, Lock It Tight, Lock it now with sacred light. Let only those whom I call, Answer Me to give me guidance. May no evil enter through this portal, and may no unnamed spirit answer my calls. As I have said it so it has always been."
The mirror is now prepped for the ritual, the next step is to create a salt circle where you are going to be seated. As well as a secondary salt circle surrounding the candle and mirror. These salt circles are an extra step of protection between yourself and the spiritual realm.
The next step is to darken the room, as dark as possible, pitch black is best. From there, place the candle in front of the mirror and ignite it, then begin the process of staring into the mirror. Watch as the candle shifts shadows around and brings new shapes to the surface.
Tumblr media
After about 10-30 minutes your body will begin to go into a trance state of mind, from there you can call upon the name of one of your ancestors to help guide you. It may not be immediate as scrying takes years to master but after a few tries you should begin to see their faces and hear their voice.
Scrying sessions can be anywhere from a few minutes, to several hours or even days from some accounts. Don't be frustrated if nothing happens your first time. And most importantly, always remember to thank the spirits for their time and energy, and always remember to say goodbye when you blow out the candle.
After each use feel free to cleanse the mirror with sacred water and store the mirror in a sacred space.
Post Script
Scrying isn't for everyone and that's okay. It takes patience and an open mind, but if you decide to give it a try it can do wonders for your spiritual practice.I hope I was able to teach you something new, Until next time my Friends :)

Here are the names and sigils of the 72 chief demons of Hell from The Lesser Key of Solomon, in case any of you need to get ahold of any of them.
I mean Republicans will probably start honest-to-god witch trials again once they run out of books to ban and pregnant women to jail, so we might as well earn it.

The Secret of Secrets: A Ring of the Sun for an Oracle
Achieving communication through an oracle was a popular method of divination for Renaissance magicians and remains popular today. There are many methods spread throughout the grimoires on how to achieve this, but specifically the "A Cunning Man's Grimoire" published by Dr. Stephen Skinner and David Rankine offers many. This post will follow my process of creation for this ring and its effects in my life.
The instructions can be found in the book on pg. 112.
Astrologically, the Sun must be in Aries or his exaltation (19 degrees Aries) in the 9th House and the moon should be in the sign of the native's 9th house (Cancer for me) with a favorable aspect (trine or sextile) to the sun. A chart (Figure 1) in April of 2024 fits all but one of these requirements.

The Sun is in Aries, though not exalted and conjunct the midheaven. The Moon is also in Cancer. There are a couple of things I dislike, however. The first is that Mercury is retrograde and in a sign-based conjunction. Given his association with being a messenger of the gods, I can forsee this negatively impacting the solar oracle ring. The Moon also squares the Sun instead of being in a favorable aspect.
I attempted to find an alternative timing, preferably one not a year out. In April 2023 the Sun is in a similar positioning, but the Moon is in Sagittarius and in a trine with the Sun. While the Moon does not perfectly follow the grimoire instructions, my natal chart has the Moon in Sagittarius and it rules the sign of my 9th (Cancer), therefore, I find this chart (Figure 2) more agreeable considering other aspects as well.

Let us continue through the instructions with a date and time in mind. A pure gold ring should be engraved with specific characters and fumigated. Then a piece of root from a solar plant must be placed beneath a stone with solar characteristics. Specifics are included regarding the harvest of the herb, however, I think the most important aspects are to harvest in the day and hour of the Sun.
Pure gold is expensive and difficult to acquire, so I intend to make this out of paper. I debated the herb for this endeavor but decided on ginger for its solar characteristics according to Agrippa and because of its stimulatory nature. Before completing this work, I will create a ginger tincture and soak the paper in before letting it dry in the sunlight. Then I intend to cover the paper ring in gold leaf, carving or writing the respective sigils on top. Then a small section of dried ginger root will be glued onto the outside.
The book includes preparatory steps common throughout the grimoire (remain pure, fast, do not engage in unclean vices...etc) prior to utilizing the ring, though does not note a specific consecration (though, you should be able to adapt the call to the 7 angels noted in the beginning for this purpose if desired). When ready, you are to put the ring on they finger and enter your bed, speaking no words, but to meditate upon your desired effect and fall asleep.
When the time comes, I shall provide an update with pictures of the process along with my experiences!
