i am about to bestow upon you the secret butter technique. i am sorry, but it is french. i am sorry again, this only works with cow butter. i am certain plant based butters wouldn’t work, and alternative animal butters may or may not work
has this ever been you: you have a nicely steamed vegetable, or maybe you want to make the best butter noodles, but you know that if you put butter on those it’ll just melt and you end with kind of greasy noodles or vegetables? don’t you wish it was instead a luscious buttery glaze?
introducing: beurre monté
you will take a small sauce pan, and begin heating it with 1-2 tablespoons of water (use very little water) and bring it to a hard simmer or boil
turn the heat down slightly, and add Butter. how much? however much you dare. (start with 3-4 tablespoons and go from there)
you are going to either whisk Aggressively or you can pick up the saucepan, still holding it over the heat, and swirl aggressively so the butter is skating around the sides of the pan
done correctly, you will have liquid butter that is still emulsified. you have made Butter Sauce. season it with a little salt, and toss whatever you want in it.
if you’re butter splits, i’m sorry. you didn’t agitate it enough to maintain the emulsion, and now you have melted butter.
you can use this knowledge to make other sauces by swapping out the water for another liquid. white wine becomes beurre blanc. red wine is beurre rogue.
you want to CUM? sweat minced shallot in a tiny bit of butter, add white wine and cook it out until it’s reduced by about half. then whisk butter in hard. a few flecks of minced thyme or fennel frond stirred thru, and you eat that with a nice seared fish? or scallop? or even shrimp? wow. you will Nut
your boxed mac and cheese game can also be elevated by cooking your pasta and making a beurre monté first, tossing your pasta in that and adding the cheese packet. wow. hey; you’ll cum
go forth now with this butter secret

meal ideas!
low energy ("do not ask me to do any prep work at all, so help me god")
mozzerella cheese wrapped in pepperoni ("pizza tacos"!)
hummus and pretzels or naan (putting the naan in the microwave for like 10 seconds...heavenly)
canned chili (with shredded cheese and sour cream if you have it! boom done!)
instant miso soup (warm and lovely! put tofu in it for protein!)
cheese and cured meat, olives, canned fish, crackers, dried fruit, or whatever easy "charcuterie" type items you like
alternate bites of apple and spoonfulls of peanut butter (mixing honey or chocolate chips to the peanut butter is my favorite)
a "deconstructed sandwich": bites of lunch meat, pickles, cheese, cherry tomato, etc (I love roast beef and white cheddar for this)
yogurt and granola or fruit
put frozen potstickers + frozen edamame in the steamer/rice cooker, chill elsewhere with a timer set, then boom
tortilla chips + canned refried beans + cherry tomatoes + cilantro + jarred salsa con queso (or warm shredded cheese on top of the chips in the microwave for 30 seconds)
bagel + cream cheese + lox
microwave scrambled eggs (add things like green onion, soy sauce, or anything else you like!)
cottage cheese and fruit (mixed together or just on the side)
bowl of shredded rotisserie chicken + buffalo sauce + a bit of mayo + green onion (use a kitchen scissors to cut them right in!)
medium energy ("I'll boil water but don't ask me to chop shit")
boiled eggs and fresh veggies (put a little salt on top of the eggs!)
buttered noodles (my go-to nausea meal, it has never failed me. ideas of things to add: frozen peas, imitation crab, roasted garlic)
baked potato with toppings (I like cheese, bacon, broccoli, green onion, and sour cream)
quesadilla (add some canned beans, cilantro, or avocado!)
pot roast (requires a lot of time but not a lot of actual work. I love it with peas!)
cuban sandwich (bread, swiss, pickle, mustard, ham... my favorite thing to panini-ify by far)
pan-fried tofu with scallion sauce (this sauce goes well with everything and tofu is no exception)
pancakes or waffles! (I love mine with jam)
ham, pickle, and cream cheese roll-ups
fried eggs (with toast and lots of butter...so comforting)
fruit smoothie (bananas, frozen strawberries, yogurt...or whatever!)
I hate salad but could write essays on this copycat olive garden salad (throw it in a bowl! chopping required if you use onion)
spaghetti (controversial maybe but angel hair > spaghetti noodles)
pasta salad (olives broccoli fresh mozerella... those little mini pepperonis... yeah)
stir-fried thai garlic shrimp (I like using the mini frozen salad shrimps, it's easy! use jarred minced garlic to avoid chopping!)
tuna mayo onigiri
slow cooker ribs
buffalo chicken wrap (or any number of other wrap options! shred pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to make it easier)
if your local grocery store sells pre-cooked gyro strips, that can turn into an easy wrap with store-bought pita & tzatziki with tomatoes and onions!
couscous and chickpeas
tortellini + pasta sauce + spinach
high energy ("I don't mind chopping some things up!")
stuffed shells with spinach
chicken and roasted garlic (oh my god.....one of my all time favorites)
beef tacos (I like mine with cilantro and onion, and when I'm feeling especially high energy I love a tomatillo salsa)
chicken alfredo
tom kha gai (a thai soup and my absolute favorite! you just need access to galangal)
lasagna! (freezes well and then boom! low energy meal for later)
pad thai! (not as hard as you'd think, as long as you have access to tamarind paste!)
potstickers! (this is a lovely group activity if you want to cook with housemates!)
rice and beans
bang bang shrimp (ogughfhgfuh I love it. you can also do bang bang tofu!)
minestrone soup (so many nice veggies!)
fried rice (put whatever you have on hand in there! broccoli, peas, carrot, and beef is my favorite combo)
broccoli cheddar soup
spring rolls and peanut sauce
skewers (such as beef, onion, zucchini, bell pepper... you don't need a grill, oven works!)
roasted turkey with garlic parmesean asparagus
pork chop with mashed potatoes
panang curry
chicken gnocchi soup (use store bought gnocchi or make your own if you have a high energy day!)
bibimbap (super customizable depending on what veggies you like best)
butter chicken
plus! things that have helped me meal plan:
whenever you think of a meal you'd like to make, take 3 seconds to google search it, take a screenshot of the image results, and put it in a "food ideas" folder. instant visual menu!
the concept of "meal prepping" makes me recoil but I've learned that it can simply mean preparing shredded chicken, boiled eggs, or some other simple protein that you can customize throughout the week. shredded chicken can turn into wraps, salads, pasta dishes, etc... you don't have to meal prep yourself into the same meal all week!
when I have difficulty working up an appetite, I'll scroll through my favorite restaurant menus! there might be some foods I can't make at home, but many times they're very simple to recreate because the ingredients are literally listed!

I'm having such bad time with decision making rn. I have a free day and can just do whatever I want from my "do whenever before day x" list.
But I can't decide. So I'm making pasta and sitting on the floor playing with a piece of plastic that fell out of the waste bin. ...

i've found your account not too long ago and let me tell you i fell in love with your writing, could i request poly!marauders with reader where each one of them has a specific pet name that reader calls them, like for example reader screams from the kitchen 'honey' and then remus comes cause that's what she always calls him, and they all just love it so much that she gives them separate pet names
god i hope it makes sence hahah
have a good day xoxo
Ahh thanks lovely! No worries, this made perfect sense, and I'm a sucker for idiosyncratic pet names! Hope you like it and you have a good day too :)
poly!marauders x reader ♡ 378 words
“Shit,” you mutter as water hisses and sizzles on the hot stove, your pot boiling over. “Honey!”
“Yeah?” Remus calls from the next room. You can hear his footsteps heading your way.
“Can you stir the pasta for me, please? I’m not going to have the sauce ready in time if I stop to watch the pot.”
“‘Course, dove.” Remus squeezes your shoulder lightly as he goes by, the sizzling sounds quieting soon after.
“Thanks. Would you mind getting the table ready, bub?”
You hear the TV turn off as James stands. “On it.”
“Thanks!”
James comes into your small kitchen to collect the cutlery, and you and Remus both move, without having to look, to let him pass. This choreography is so familiar it feels nearly instinctive by now, the way the four of you move together, brushing past each other with affectionate touches and the occasional murmured direction. Sirius, evidently feeling left out, hops onto the counter beside your cutting board.
“Hey, love.” You glance at him with a smile before returning to your work. “I know you’re not a fan of tomatoes, so I’m thinking I could add those last and plate yours up before that. That sound alright?”
“Sounds perfect,” Sirius replies, ducking down to give you a quick kiss. “Thanks, angel.”
You know you’re smiling down at the tomatoes like an idiot, but you can’t help it. It’s just the way your face wants to be. “No problem.”
Once dinner is ready, you and Remus carry two plates each to the table, where James and Sirius are already waiting. “Fuck,” you hiss, tripping over something soft before righting yourself. “Sorry, baby.”
Three pairs of eyes snap to you quizzically, but you don’t notice, setting down the dishes before squatting under the table.
“Always underfoot, aren’t you?” You coo, petting your (thankfully unharmed) cat.
Sirius huffs a laugh, and there may even be a bit of relief in the sound. “Did you guys know who she was talking to?”
“Nope,” James says, shaking his head. “I thought one of us was getting a new one or something. I quite like them the way they are, though.”
“Honestly, dove, let’s keep the pet names for just us, yeah?” Remus teases. “Otherwise it could get competitive.”

a little something to celebrate 100 followers (and finishing my finals!)
Tumblr media
Jason’s thigh shifts under your cheek. The fabric of his jeans is warmed by your combined body heat, worn soft in the way a best loved pair always is. It’s been a long day, a long week actually, but its over now. You’ve made it through though and there’s nothing but a glorious evening free ahead of you now. You’re lying on your side, eyes closed, head pillowed by Jason’s delicious thighs. He was sitting on the couch when you came home, thighs splayed wide open and absorbed in a book. He’d looked so comfy sitting there, it was all you could do to control your descent onto the couch. You’d flopped down, boneless the instant your body made contact with his. Jason’s thighs were just as comfortable as they looked, warm and firm with just the right amount of give. He looks down at you, fond.
“You gettin’ comfy down there sweetheart?” It’s wry, and probably accompanied by a smile, if you could be bothered to look up and open your eyes to see it.
“Mmmhmmm.”
You nuzzle your face further into his thigh, let the smell of detergent and Jason wash away the day. He reaches for something over you, pulls down a soft fleece blanket to cover you with. He drapes it over you, let’s you adjust it the way you like it. He pets over your hair once, twice, then buries his hand it to cradle your skull. There’s a rustle of pages and you know he’s gone back to his book.
You drift there, warm and comforted by Jason’s steady presence. There’s nothing but the sound of your combined breathing punctuated by the occasional turn of a page. You’re not sure how long you stay there, but by the time you open your eyes again the quality of the light has changed. The living room is only lit by the low warm light of several lamps, the sun completely gone down. For the past few minutes Jason’s gone back to petting your hair, finished with his book.
“You back with me yet?”
Instead of answering, you try and bury your face even further into his leg. His thigh just so firm and biteable that you give into the urge and gently clamp down.
“Hey! Okay, we’re both getting up now. You can either wait here on the couch or sit in the kitchen with me but I need to start making dinner.”
He tries to shake you free but you’re not ready yet. It’s not until he bends over to kiss you on the temple that you magnanimously let him go. Turn up to look at him appraisingly.
“Kitchen but I get to be your taste tester and I get to bring the blanket.”
He laughs then, bright and loud. Sweeps you up, blanket and all, and bridal carries you to the kitchen. Sets you down on one of the bar chairs across the counter so you can watch him, and then starts to pull out pans. Gets the black tea and spice chest out of the cupboard and starts digging for the mortar and pestle under the kitchen sink. Chops and peels a ginger root, adds it to the pot with the tea and spices before covering it all with water to boil. He cleans up as he goes, pulling out the ingredients for pasta as the water boils. You rest your head in your hands to watch him work. A few spoonfuls of sugar and a cup of milk go into the pot now. His hands are steady and mesmerizing as they use a ladle to aerate the boiling milk. The kitchen smells amazing, warmed spices and tea filling the air. A steaming mug appears in front of you, as if by magic.
“New spice blend. Let me know what you think.”
Jason winks before spinning back to the stove. The chai is rich and sweet on your tongue, warming you up from the inside out. It’s probably your favourite version yet, but then you say that about every new iteration he lets you try out.
Jason’s multitasking in a way your tired brain can’t quite catch up to. Pasta’s boiling in one pot, chicken seasoned and shallow frying in a pan, and his knife’s flying to dice garlic and cherry tomatoes. He darts forward with a bit of chicken on a fork, gets you to blow on it before carefully putting it between your teeth. It’s plump and juicy, fat adding salt and the basic seasoning doing the rest to make it delicious.
“It’s good. Taste tester approved. The chai and the chicken.”
“Glad to know my cooking meets your high standards.”
He grins like quick silver, hands never stopping their motions. There’s a pesto sauce cooking off with the chicken and its fat, garlic frying up with it. A dash of cream and the colour goes a soft green. The chai’s almost gone now, a satisfying weight in your belly that only makes you hungrier. There’s pasta on another fork waving in front of your face. Annoyed, you snap it up with your teeth.
“It’s cooked.”
A cloud of steam and the pasta’s drained, tossed into the chicken and sauce. Two bowls appear on the counter filled with chicken and pasta, topped with cherry tomatoes and grated Parmesan. You’re not even sure when he had time to grate cheese. It looks so good, your mouth is already watering.
You’re warm and relaxed, still bundled in a blanket, the dregs of chai still in the mug wrapped in your hands. There’s food on the table, good food made with care. There’s a beautiful man leaning across the counter from you, in the apartment that you’ve made a home together. It’s been a long day, but you’re home with the man you love and none of that matters anymore.

Hey! Don’t know if you’re still taking requests, but if you are, would you mind writing something about reader accidentally burning herself whilst cooking? Nothing major but something still to be concerned about and how TF141 would react? Either platonic or in a relationship is fine :)
Thanks so much ❤️😊
as someone who is absolute shit in the kitchen I can say this has happened to me so many times! thank you for the request <3

Cooking was never a great quality of yours. It was a skill you were still learning the hard way. Oftentimes, you would settle for something warm from the mess or be the first one to rip open an MRE on the field. However, after a very lively conversation with Soap, your ego was put to the test as he challenged you to cook something one night. "Just some pasta, no big deal," he chided as you rolled your eyes in annoyance, "unless you don't think you could?" With that, you immediately stormed into the shared kitchen to scrounge something up with Soap following close behind. Your eyes landed on some pasta that was probably there for ages and marinara sauce in a can. "Could I do you for some pasta and sauce?" you asked and before he could make a snarky comment, you turned to find a pot.
"God fuck this," you mumbled as the water took seemingly forever to boil. "Might help if you add some salt!" Gaz interjected as he took a seat next to Soap on a neighboring counter. "Mhmmm," you replied as you continued to watch the stagnant water as if you could make it heat with your mind. Soap and Gaz continued talking about some mindless training while you tuned in to the hums and clicks of the burner. Eventually, you triumphantly shouted as the water began to build to a roaring boil. You let the long strands of pasta sit in the pot as they began to soften. "You forget about the sauce?" Soap reminded and you swore as you scrambled to find another pot. In your haste, you had turned on the burner in preparation. So, when you returned seconds later with the pot, a lit flame met your gaze. "FUCK," you screamed as you whacked at it haphazardly with whatever was closest. "GOD STOP TRYING TO HIT IT WITH THE CARDBOARD BOX," was the last thing you heard from Gaz before your vision was clouded by the rapid dispersal of a fire extinguisher.
When the smoke had cleared, you were left with a throbbing hand and a powdery kitchen. "What is going on in here?" Price asked as he came barreling down the hall with Ghost in tow. "Someone decided to cook us a meal and well," Soap trailed off as you stood there covered in white. Price had no words as he looked at the group standing sheepishly in front of him. "You hurt, Sergeant?" he said sternly and you put up your hands to show the reddish skin. Price pinched his nose bridge as he turned to find a medical kit. "Put that under some water, Sergeant, and the rest of you," he paused turning back around, "clean this shit up."
As Soap and Gaz complained through the various cleaning supplies being put to work, you nursed your hand with some burn cream and gauze. Price had given you an earful about your little mishap and furthermore, had instructed you to visit the infirmary in the morning to make sure you didn't get an infection. You winced as you bound the gauze around the pink tinted areas. Ghost laughed quietly as he watched you patch up your non-dominant hand and you shot a look at him. "Cooking isn't easy, Lt." you barked and he continued to laugh even harder. "Think we should call you Pyro from now on."

do you have some favourite go-to recipes? i would love any of your recommendations!! xx
we eat the same few things on rotation in our house, as I do all the cooking, and I like a) one-pot meals, and b) pasta, preferably. most of these are fairly low effort but you get a lot of bang for your buck flavour-wise, and they're endlessly customisable!
also, listen, I don't do measurements. follow your heart and taste as you go.
the tiktok viral baked feta pasta from like 4 years ago ingredients: plum or cherry tomatoes, a block of feta (or boursin if you're feeling flush), garlic, pasta optional extras: spinach, cannellini beans, chili crisp recipe: whack your tomatoes, sliced garlic, and olive oil in a big dish. nestle your feta in there. I like to add a tin of drained cannellini beans at this point to bulk it out/cut down on the pasta/make the texture confusing, but you don't have to. stick it in the oven at like 180-200C for half an hour ish. after half an hour boil your pasta. retrieve your oven dish, stir everything up to desired consistency (I'm a chunk girl). you can add spinach while you do this for extra greenery, or a massive spoonful of chili crisp for heat and crunch, but it's good on its own. add the pasta and some pasta water if you need. voila. you simply cannot go wrong.
gochujang and hummus pasta ingredients: gochujang (this keeps forever in the fridge so it's a good kitchen investment), a tub of hummus, garlic, white onion, parm optional extras: parsley recipe: chop onion and garlic, sling them in a pan with butter and a splash of EVOO. when the onion is sufficiently sweaty and nice, add a dollop of gochujang (the bigger the dollop the spicier the end result) and stir it all in, followed by the whole tub of hummus. boil the pasta. add the cooked pasta to the pan, along with some pasta water, a shit load of grated parm, and garnish with parsley. my friend sent me a vegan version of this recipe about a year ago and I've made the non-vegan version roughly once a week since. it is so fucking delicious. butter bean thing ingredients: butter beans, garlic, red onion, tomato paste, cream/double cream/greek yog, lemon, sourdough/nice crusty bread optional extras: parsley recipe: throw chopped garlic and onion in a pan with butter and EVOO and really let them sweat it out. add tinned butter beans WITH THE JUICE. yes, I know. add in a few good squirty piles of tomato paste and stir, then let it all heat through. at this point start toasting your crusty bread of choice because I ALWAYS forget until the end and then I'm rushed. I recommend splurging for the good bread, slathered with melty butter. add whatever creamy thing you have to hand (the og recipe I saw said double cream, but I usually have greek yoghurt in and that does the job) to the beans, along with some lemon juice, garnish with parsley if you like and serve. use the bread as a giant spoon. you are welcome.
sausage soup/stew? casserole?? ingredients: celery, white onion, carrot, sausage/s, cherry tomatoes, tinned tomatoes, chicken broth, parm optional extras: creamy thing of your choice, spinach, orzo recipe: dice the celery, carrot and onion (mirepoix!), and throw it in a big big big pot with some EVOO. now: I get a pack of nice sausages and either mash or chop them depending on how much energy I have, but if you live somewhere with a butcher or whatever you can save your mashing arm and just get ground sausage. throw in the ground, mashed, or chopped sausage and cook for a bit. follow with a tin of chopped tomatoes and chicken broth. I usually put in about a litre. chop the cherry toms and toss them in. follow with a load of grated parm. if you have any parm rinds, throw em in and leave it to bubble away. this doesn't sound like much but it is so good. the longer you leave it the more flavourful it will be! towards the end I like to add in whatever creamy thing is in the fridge (double cream, greek yog, milk), along with lots of chopped spinach and a cup of orzo to really bulk it up. we can happily live on this for DAYS, especially if we have leftover fancy crusty bread from the gochujang pasta. oh and remember to take out the parm rind.
thai chicken curryish ingredients: chicken (thigh/breast), garlic, ginger, yellow peppers, spring onion, cashew nuts, rice, coconut milk, chicken broth optional extras: sriracha, coriander recipe: I love this one cos it is SO quick and SOOOO easy. cut chicken into chunks and brown it in the pot. whip it back out and throw in the chopped garlic and ginger (I have a tube of ginger paste in the fridge cos WHO has the time?) with a big glug of EVOO, then a cup of rice. jasmine works, but I've also used risotto rice. toss in the chopped peppers, spring onion and cashew nuts (if I have the energy I'll chop the nuts, but you can put em in as-is), then add coconut milk (a tin's amount, be that an actual tin or some of the melted stuff that costs 1/4 of the price - thanks Asian supermarket!) and chicken broth. put the browned chicken back in, give it all a stir, cover it, and stick it in the oven for like 25ish mins. here’s the NYT recipe if you need liquid measurements/an actionable recipe that isn’t me riffing. (as always, 12ft.io/ in front of the address to bypass the paywall.) serve it with sriracha squirted all over it (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and coriander if you like it.
delicious little rice waffle ingredients: leftover jasmine rice, chili crisp, an egg, kewpie mayonnaise, sesame oil, spring onion, A WAFFLE MAKER optional extras: furikake recipe: full disclosure, you need a little waffle maker for this. mix the rice with chili crisp, a little sesame oil, and egg yolk. dollop it into the waffle maker and cook. garnish with kewpie mayo, sliced spring onion and some furikake if you have it, or just toasted sesame seeds if you have those, or neither! delicious little spicy umami snack, my beloved.
tuna melt of dreams ingredients: you know what's in a tuna melt recipe: swap the butter on the outside of the bread for kewpie mayonnaise and thank me later.
ADDENDUM: this goes without saying for me but sadly I know it does not for everybody: SEASON YOUR FOOD WITH SALT. IT WON'T MAKE YOUR FOOD SALTY IT WILL MAKE IT DELICIOUS. COOK YOUR PASTA IN SALT. WHEN IN DOUBT, ADD SOME SALT. THANK YOU.

Mi Querida Esposa || Alejandro Vargas
For @glitterypirateduck's “Amor a Alejandro” writing challenge! I used prompt 16. "Nothing is ever simple".
Rating: G Words: 2.6K Tags: f!reader, you/your pronouns but no Y/N, Spanish terms of endearment, best friends to lovers, forced marriage (but not like THAT), friendly bickering, drinking, kissing, no smut. Summary: Alejandro's parents have been pestering him to settle down and get married. He lies that he and reader (his best-friend) are dating. The lie snowballs. a/n: I imagined that both Alejandro and reader are Mexican! Only curse words and terms of endearment are in Spanish.
a/n #2: I wrote a follow-up for this one shot: Check here
Tumblr media
“Please, it’s just dinner!” Alejandro said as he stood in your kitchen at 6 P.M.
You had just gotten home from work, and barely had time to kick off your shoes and start on dinner when the front door to your apartment opened and your best friend came strolling in.
Not even a minute later, he was groveling (on his feet, because he’s too proud to do it on his knees) for your help.
“Are you drunk, Ale?” You ask him as you continue stirring the pasta in the boiling water so it doesn’t stick.
“No, I’m not.” He replies loudly as he gets as close to you as possible, leaning his hip on the counter next to him. “Please.” He pleads again. “It’s really simple, I promise you!” He continues.
“Simple? Ale, nothing is ever simple with you!” You retort as you use your hand to pinch the bridge of your nose. “You’ve just asked me to marry you!” You ask him as you look up at him.
Sometimes you resent yourself for being such a good actress. It’s part of the reason why you find yourself pretending not to like Alejandro as much as you do. You swear you want to be a bit more caring and affectionate toward him… but you always end up bickering with him and giving him attitude.
“Please!” He turns you away from the pasta pot and puts both hands on your shoulders, staring at you like a deranged, desperate man.
“Vato [dude], nobody is going to believe that we’re dating, let alone wanting to get married.” You tell him as you give him a deadpan, unconvinced look.
There was a time in the past when you would’ve bent yourself over backward for an opportunity to date (or say that you’re dating) Alejandro. But that was ages ago, a crush you have long since outgrown… Or so you think.
“Ay carajo [For fuck’s sake], they don’t have to 100% believe it! Just have to instill reasonable doubt!” He attempts to reason. “Please, flaca [skinny girl*]!” He tells you.
You shake away his hands from your shoulders and set your hands on your hips over your apron. “Why don’t you just go out and find yourself an actual girlfriend, for once?” You retort.
“This, again?” He grumbles. “I. already. told. you!” He says while slapping his right hand against his palm to punctuate his sentence. “I don’t have the time or the patience to go out and meet someone!” He groans in frustration. “I’m busy with work!”
“Ale, you’re a grown man and an Army Colonel at that.” You remind him. “You’re telling me you’re scared of telling your parents you’re focused on your career?” You add in a teasing, mocking tone.
“Oye! I’m not scared!” He denies it as he points a finger in your face. “I just wanted them to stop annoying me!” He adds as he looks away and grumbles under his breath.
“And you think lying about being in a relationship with me would make it better?” You scold him and nod your head in an act of defiance. “Your parents know me, Ale, they’ll realize that we’re not dating the moment they see us!”
“They kept pestering me to get married, loca [crazy girl], I had to lie.” He grumbles in reply as he throws his hands up and turns away. “And it did make it better!” He retorts and waves his hands in the air. “They were off my case for the last 6 months!” He adds.
“SIX MONTHS?!” You ask as your jaw drops. “You told them this SIX MONTHS AGO and didn’t think to tell me before?” You scold him. He turns to look at you like a naughty kid being lectured by his mother, his face set into a grimace.
“What if I crossed paths with your mamá [mom] at the market, huh?!” You ask in shock as you point at yourself with both hands. “What would’ve happened then? What if someone had seen me on a date with another man?!” You add in surprise.
“But you didn’t! And I know you would’ve had my back if she started asking questions!” He adds, which causes you to glare at him angrily.
Alejandro hangs his head before taking a long, deep breath. “I’m sorry, okay?!” He ends up saying earnestly. “I just wanted them to stop acting like I’m a disgrace for being 38, single, and, allegedly, ‘miserable’!” He justified himself.
“But you are miserable and single!” You retort. As punishment, he wraps an arm around you and gives you a noogie. “Ay, puta madre [for fuck’s sake], Alejandro!” You demand as you slip away from the headlock, smacking at his arm in the process.
Alejandro takes a step toward you again and sets his hands on your shoulders once more, his eyes locked onto yours. “Please, cuata [twin/bestie].” He pleads. “Just this once.” He requests.
“Just ‘this once’? Are you serious?” You ask as you dip your head to the side, looking up at him like he’s lost his mind. “You just told me your parents invited your entire family over for dinner to celebrate our ‘engagement’ and start planning our wedding, Ale!” You remind him. “How is it going to be ‘just this once’?” You add.
“We can pretend to break up after this!” He retorts, making you sigh loudly and rub your eyes with your fingers. “Or… we can get married… for the tax benefits!” He adds, which causes you to look at him sharply, eyes widened and your hand raised to smack him.
“Okay, okay! I’m joking!” He adds while raising his hands defensively. In a lot of ways, you and Alejandro behave like siblings, always at each other’s throats… Only to turn around and have each other’s backs… like now. “Please.” He pleads again.
You take a long, deep, desperate breath and exhale sharply before turning around to strain out the water of your cooked pasta. “Fine…” You grumble under your breath. “But you owe me, big time!” You add.
“YES!” He shouts excitedly and shakes his fists in the air. “Thank you, thank you…” Alejandro says thankfully and wraps his arms around you in a bear hug which, definitely, makes you hear some bones of yours cracking.
“But!” You add, interrupting his celebration, which causes him to let go of you. “It’s only this dinner thing! And after that… in a couple of months, you’ve gotta tell them we ‘broke up’!” You demand.
“No, absolutely. I’ve already got a plan for that and everything!” Alejandro nods earnestly. “Just trust me.” He adds.
-
“I still can’t believe this.” You grumble as throw yourself onto the leather couch, which creaks as you sit. You feel exhausted. Your feet hurt, your cheeks are sore from smiling so much, you’re sweaty, your make-up is a bit messy, and you drank a bit more tequila than you should.
Alejandro sits on the leather couch beside you, rubbing his forehead and eyes with one hand while the other clutches a lowball glass of tequila. “You’ve said that 12 times now.” He grumbles.
You turn to look at him, your brow set low and your lips twisted into a pursed scowl. “And I’ll keep saying it!” You exclaim. “Because I can’t. believe. this.” You add.
Alejandro looks up at you before shooting the tequila shot in his chilled glass. “You’re the one that let our mamás talk you into this.” He retorts.
“Shut up.” You grumble defensively as you shuffle over, the gown rustling as you slide closer to him. He fills the glass with another double shot of Don Julio, and this time hands it over to you, which you take, gladly.
For the last 3 months since that dinner party at Alejandro’s parents’ house, you’ve dreaded this moment… The wedding itself, sure, but the moments after, the days after… When you’ve been freshly married and have to move in together and have all those changes to your routine…
But, right now, the dread is mostly gone. You could probably blame it on the tequila and the culmination of the stress, but right now, it almost feels… relieving to be here, in this hotel room, with your best friend/husband.
“That suit makes it look like you’re going to meet the President.” You grumble after taking a sip of your drink, your eyes set on his formal dress uniform. It’s your first time seeing him in his dress blues… He looks nice.
The suit itself is a dark teal blue-adjacent color, and he has a ridiculous amount of medals over his left breast, which you almost mocked him for, before biting your tongue, knowing they’re important to him.
The green beret with the Fuerzas Especiales insignia, which he wore for the better part of the day, sits on his lap. His suit jacket is unbuttoned and so are the top buttons of his white button-up, revealing his white undershirt and the gold crucifix necklace he always wears.
“And you look like you’re celebrating your quinceñera. Why would you pick such a poofy dress?” He retorts with a raised brow while leaning back on the couch and crossing his ankle over his knee. His eyes are glued to the ball gown wedding dress you’re wearing.
“I was already being forced to marry you, I was going to enjoy what little I could. I wanted to feel like a princess.” You reply and shoot him an annoyed look. Alejandro’s arm slowly slips onto the back of the couch, resting it there, behind you.
“Excuses.” He says dismissively and smirks playfully at you. “You wanted a dress that big so you’d have a built-in way of distancing yourself from me, so I didn’t have to kiss you or dance with you.” He quips and nudges you with his elbow.
You nudge him back, the two of you bickering like little kids. “Shut up!” You complain, which makes him laugh, and so do you laugh with him. “God, we had to kiss in front of everyone…” You grumble as you knock back the rest of the tequila shot.
“You say that as if I’m some sort of disgusting monster.” He retorts, causing your tongue to click in an annoyed, dismissive way. “C’mon… You didn’t hate it all that much.” He replies.
“Pelo amor de Dios [for the love of God], shut your mouth!” You demand defensively, your whole face warming up as you remember the cheers that came upon your kiss during the ceremony… and all throughout the reception to really ‘sell’ that you two are in love. “It was weird…”
Alejandro chuckles. “Not as weird as moving in together after tonight, eh?” He quips, which causes you to groan audibly. “Hey, think about it this way… Killed two birds with one stone…” He says as he scoots closer and looks you in the eyes.
“My parents stopped pestering me about getting married, your parents stopped pestering you too…” He reminds you. “Plus, now you don't have to pay rent, and we get tax benefits and better healthcare through the Army.” He adds.
“You and your stupid benefits.” You retort. “You know, we’re only in this mess because of you.” You complain and nudge him with your elbow as you look up at him.
“I know…” Alejandro grumbles and winces away from your sharp elbow to his ribs. “You’ve made a point to remind me of this every waking moment of every day since we tried to ‘break up’ and you let my mamá talk you into ‘staying with me’.” He adds and laughs a little.
Your face contorts into a grimace and you groan loudly yet again. “Your mamá has always been very demanding and scary, okay?” You retort.
“So you understand why I lied in the first place, huh?” He adds, causing you to nudge him and smack him upside the head.
“Shut up, Ale…” You retort while he chuckles a bit, rubbing the back of his head with his hand. “The woman basically begged me to stay with you because, in her eyes, if your best friend of 10 years can’t keep you tied down, then you really are a disgrace to the Vargas family.” You tell him. “What was I supposed to do?”
Instead of groaning, he simply smiles broadly and shakes his head. “Well, mi querida esposa [my dear wife], it’s over and done with. We’re married… and she’s thrilled.” He remarks and chuckles.
For some reason, you find yourself getting a bit flustered, your face flushing a bit warmer. Something about the way he called you his wife caused your heart to race… You never gave much thought to the idea of marriage… But now that you think about it… Being called someone’s wife is strangely nice. And… being Ale’s wife? It’s even nicer.
“Don’t remind me…” You remark in an attempt to sound disdainful, but it only ends up sounding soft and gentle. “Next thing we know, she’ll be pestering us into having grandchildren… My mamá too.” You say before groaning once more.
Alejandro’s face winces a little at the idea, but then, he breaks into a grin again, seeming playful and interested. “Groan all you want… But I’m sure you’d like the process of making them.” He quips and wags his eyebrows mischievously, earning another smack upside the head from you.
“I hate you…” You tell him playfully and shake his head, annoyed and amused at him… as usual.
“No, you don’t.” Your husband says and slowly leans closer. “You love me.” He adds playfully.
“No, I’m pretty sure I hate you.” You retort as you hold your ground, remaining in the same position.
“Hm… no. You love me.” Alejandro insists and leans closer.
Your eyes sparkle a bit. “No, I don’t.” You reply while your eyes narrow at him in a mock annoyed way.
Alejandro licks his lips and slowly rubs his nose against yours. “Yes, you do. You love me… Just like you loved kissing me after the ceremony.” He quips with that shit-eating grin of his.
Something in the air makes you feel even more flustered and you look away once more. Licking your lips too, you gulp down a breath in your throat. “Maybe...” You end up admitting.
Alejandro’s smirk grows bigger. “It’s okay.” He assures you with a nod. “I didn’t mind kissing you either.” He admits, which makes your eyes widen a bit in surprise and you look back up at him.
Alejandro’s lips then brush against yours… And he presses them together into a soft, gentle kiss that, this time, doesn’t feel like a performance. It’s not a rushed little peck done only for his family, and yours, and the guests at your wedding. It’s slow and sweet, just for the two of you in this hotel room…
After a moment, Alejandro pulls away and locks eyes with you, his brown eyes softened and almost too calm… You know he’s not drunk and neither are you… And tomorrow morning, any attempts to blame this kiss on tequila are simply not going to be truthful.
You wanted to kiss each other and you did. And, in fact, you want to kiss him more.
You press your lips against his again, your hand raising to wrap around the back of his head, your fingers slipping into his black hair, tugging the strands away from their slicked-back style. His hands grab onto your waist around the bustle of your wedding dress as you both surrender to the kiss.
The moment your lips pull apart again, he leans against your ear and you hear it. “We’re going to be alright...” He murmurs reassuringly.
You take another deep breath, allowing yourself to inhale the scent of his cologne and sweat in his body, the alcohol in his breath, and the laundry detergent in his dress blues… It’s a comforting scent. He comforts you. So you nod in agreement and Alejandro gently kisses you one more time.
Of all people to be stuck in a sham of a marriage for both of your families’ sake… it being the man you’ve maybe harbored a crush on for a decade is not the worst of options…
End note: Although “flaca” means “skinny girl”, it has nothing to do with the reader’s actual size, most of the time. It's just a term of endearment.

Hey guys random but I wanna share this spinach pasta recipe I improvised the other day bc it's really east and tasty and a nice way to eat my greens... I've eaten it for the last several meals lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sauce recipe (1 serving)
fresh spinach several(3?) handfuls (blended with sauce)
oat milk ~1/3 c (or a diff unsweetened milk)
small pat of butter(flavor) + 3 spoonfuls olive oil
lots of black pepper + couple shakes garlic powder (or minced garlic)
tiny pat of miso/deonjang (if u dont have it, just add more cheese, or some salt to taste)
Lots of pecorino romano or parmesan cheese (or both)
+
more handfuls spinach to eat w pasta whole, opt (several/3 handfuls; keep in mind spinach shrinks a lot when cooked) (cooked in microwave, with sauce liquid)
more cheese, black pepper, parsley etc for serving
Note: need a blender to make the spinach sauce green. I used a small bullet blender. If you don't have a blender, just cook and eat the spinach pieces whole alongside the pasta instead of blending it w the sauce, like an alfredo cream sauce.
With whole spinach pieces:
>combine sauce ingred in tall, microwave safe bowl except spinach & cheese; microwave 30 sec to melt butter/miso and mix thoroughly
>add several handfuls of spinach to the sauce liquid; this is the whole spinach pieces.
>cover + microwave for 1 min /until the spinach leaves are completely wilted and tender but still green
if u dont have a blender you'd be done here (microwave longer to reduce, add more cheese/oil to make it thicker, etc)
>add 2-3 handfuls fresh spinach into bullet blender and pour in most of the sauce liquid; Blend until fully broken down into a creamy green sauce. (add a splash more milk if it's not blending)
>combine w rest of sauce in the bowl; add cheese and microwave 30+ sec more uncovered (*i add cheese at the end bc it's harder to blend with the spinach)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Without whole spinach pieces (just green sauce): combine all sauce ingred Including spinach into bullet blender; blend until fully combined; transfer to bowl & microwave 1 min + longer as needed to reduce (uncovered)
Pasta:
> boil pasta in salted water according to directions (go a min under and test if its cooked, for al dente pasta)
> drain + return to pot, add the sauce + stir
note: if doing this method u can also make the sauce in the same pot instead of using a microwave; after draining the pasta, leave it in strainer, and make the sauce in the same pot and simmer... turn up the heat to boil + reduce as desired, then add the pasta back in and stir until hot. (If i was making a bigger portion for multiple ppl i'd prob do this)
USING LEFTOVER COOKED PASTA (this is what i did, bc i had made a lot of pasta a few days ago, and had the leftovers stored in fridge):
> microwave pasta by itself in a bowl/plate for 1 min, covered
> add the hot sauce on top of hot pasta (microwave first if it's not hot enough)
(^i microwave sauce + pasta separately to ensure the pasta stays al dente btw... if u microwave sauce with pasta it gets soft)
(If making large batches ahead I'd store the pasta and sauce separately for the same reason... I'd prob do the same thing I did, make a large batch of pasta and then make the sauce right before eating... I just hate soft pasta tho so if u dont then dw abt it🫡 lol)
> Top w extra cheese, black pepper, parsley and serve/eat immediately!!

Arrival and Assembly Operations (John Price x Reader)
John arrives unannounced, you make dinner.
This is really part one of a two-part scene.
less than 1k words
CW: swearing
Tumblr media
Dinner gets pushed back when John arrives unannounced and upset. He’s abrupt and defensive, biting off the ends of words when you ask him what brought him by. He’s evasive about poker – he went but decided not to stay.
“Bloody hell, I can’t stop by to see you without an agenda now?” He’s huffy, as if his honour is being questioned.
“You can stop by any time you want, hot stuff. Are you going to be staying for dinner?” You clarify, not willing to give him the fight he is clearly spoiling to have.
Some part of him must recognize he’s turned up empty handed and unannounced at dinner time because he attempts to course correct despite the lingering grump.
“If you’ll have me, love.” Annoyance and contrition fight for the upper hand in his tone.
“Of course, it’s your favourite tonight, world’s worst pasta.”
The dish is an inside joke between the two of you, your culinary skills tending towards the improvisational.
That finally cracks his sullen face with a small smile, shrugging out of his jacket and hanging it off the back of a kitchen chair.
“Do you want me to chop?” He asks, inspecting your recent handiwork piled on a chopping board. He absentmindedly pushes his sleeves up his forearms as he moves. You are a menace with anything sharp, just as likely to hurt yourself as do any real kitchen work. The veggies look so bulky they might as well be steamed and served as a side dish as opposed to anything resembling a proper ingredient for a pasta sauce. You smile at his skeptical look and shake your head, directing him to the table instead.
“No, think I’ve got them right where I want them. Go settle down, I’ve got a handle on this, Captain. It’ll be edible, trust me.”
John’s mouth kicks up in a lopsided smile at your misplaced confidence and he folds himself onto a chair at the kitchen table to watch. You hand him a beer in a familiar routine, chatting aimlessly about work while he listens and reminds you to stir this or add that. The bad mood finally shakes free after his second beer and your third, conversation coming easier. Soon his guffaws of laughter are nearly drowning out the fire alarm.
Somewhere along the line you had grabbed a random saucepan and filled it with water to boil the spaghetti. You hadn’t paid enough attention to the size of the pot and the short-sided saucepan dropped the spaghetti noodles within range of the propane stove’s flame. The pot was nearly boiling when the noodles ignited, startling you into a shriek and making John roar with laughter.
“Fuckin’ hell, I knew coming to see you was the right call. Never a dull moment, love.”
“I’m glad you came over too, this always goes way better with an audience.” You pat his bicep as he carries the torched pasta out to the garbage bin on the front stoop. You can’t help but wonder what happened at poker as you watch his broad back disappear down the hall. A sudden wash of sympathy for your grumpy man comes over you. You know he looks forward to those nights, even if he wouldn’t ever say as much outright.
The pot was still steaming when he returned, the grim look back on his face.
“Have I mentioned that I hate this place?” He asked, stepping up to the sink to refill the pot. You know that look on his face, the tightness around his eyes and the set to his mouth. He’s trying to keep a leash on his temper.
“It may have come up casually, yes. Are you coming off the bench to assist, cap? I’m assuming you know a trick.” You tease him gently when he replaces the sauce-pan on the burner, trying to pull him back to a better mood.
“Your front door is basically Balsa wood, it’s gotta be a joke, innit?” He grumbles, taking a handful of pasta and standing it on end in the new pot of boiling water and holding it upright. As it softens the pressure of his hand bends it, and after a few moments of swishing it around he is able to fold it enough to get it all inside the pot to finish cooking.
“Well, I’ll be damned.” You breath, impressed.
“Gotta improvise sometimes, love.” He explains, picking up his beer to lean against the counter and watch it cook this time.
The long line of his muscular body gets your attention and you bite your bottom lip, picking up your own beer and taking a drink you don’t go wandering across the kitchen to press yourself up against him like an alley cat. He catches on to your line of thought quickly, his observational skills not dusty in the least.
“You truly are trouble in the kitchen. Let’s not spoil a second batch of noodles darling.” The smile he’d been wearing earlier flutters at the corners of his mouth again.
“Did you think you were going to rescue dinner and get sexually harassed when you came over tonight?”
John tilts his head back and laughs, mirth returning to his eyes.
“I can only ever hope, love.” He says fondly, smirking as your eyes connect.
The timer for the pasta goes off and John turns the burner off, taking the pot to the sink to drain it while you watch, finding his competence compelling for some reason. After he finishes with the pasta he heads in your direction, corralling you against the table to kiss you. When he murmurs something about dessert later in to your ear, you wonder if you can convince him to stay the night.

Chapter Eight: The Yao Guai's Visit
Ch 1 - Ch 2 - Ch 3 - Ch 4 - Ch 5 - Ch 6 - Ch 7 - Ch 8 - Ch 9 - More Coming Soon
Pairing: Cooper Howard/The Ghoul x Fem!Reader Summary: The two of you seek shelter for the night, enjoying a brief moment of domesticity before a glowing yao guai stalks through. Tags: Slow burn (and I mean SLOWWW), angst, eventually more smut, language, canon-typical violence, chem/alcohol use, more tags will be added Posted on AO3: Smoothie and The Ghoul Word Count: 1.7k
The two of you manage to find a ramshackle of a home. Sure, half the roof is missing and there’s a gross amount of radroaches but it feels like a haven compared to the risk of sleeping out in the open. Without wasting time, both of you start working - getting rid of the pests and settling into your newfound shelter.
While he gets a fire going in the more open area of the tiny dwelling, you sit on the floor, rummaging through your bag, contemplating what meal to prepare. You had discovered a few packaged meals like Blamco Mac and Cheese, Cram, and InstaMash from the Super Duper Mart. After a bit of consideration, you decide on Cram mac and cheese for tonight's dinner. You can't help but wonder, though - does he still have his taste buds? It's possible for some ghouls to retain some sense of taste. However, if he's been like this for two centuries, it's highly likely that his taste buds may have deteriorated.
You're grateful that those so-called sheriffs didn't confiscate your weapons or any items from your bag. Although you rarely use the pip-boy nowadays, it's handy for monitoring your health status and checking possibly high radiation levels in new areas. Seeing you fiddle with the device, the Ghoul decides to join you, taking a seat beside you as the fire roars into a steady blaze.
“Keep that on you. It will notify us if there’s any sizable mutants nearby.” He commands.
"Aye, aye captain," you half-heartedly salute him as you secure the pip-boy onto your wrist with a click.
Getting up, you make your way to what remains of the kitchen area and start rummaging for any cookware. After some searching, you find a decently sized pot, fill it with a carton of somewhat purified water from your bag, and position it over the fire. As you begin preparing the meal, The Ghoul silently observes, watching as you cut up the Cram into bite-sized pieces and add the macaroni pasta into the now boiling water. There was something so domestic about the whole thing, a rare moment of nostalgia washes over him, reminding him of a time when such simple comforts were more than just a distant dream.
After some time passes, you manage to create a modest dinner for the two of you. The effort you put into the meal is a bit surprising, but it's a welcome change from the usual scavenged scraps. The scent of the food wafting through the air adds a touch of comfort to the desolate surroundings.
"It’s too bad you can’t smell this," you joke as you hand him a serving with a bent spoon and an intact bowl you found. "I’m hoping you can at least somewhat taste it?"
With a glare, he quickly devours everything in the bowl before setting it down, offering a nod in your direction. He then leans against the nearby wall, the weight of the day's chaos settling between you. The silence that follows is a welcomed break, allowing you both to catch your breath and collect your thoughts. But as the quiet lingers, the unanswered questions from the day's events weigh heavily on your mind.
"What did that guy mean when he said you’re still looking for her?" you ask quietly, taking a bite of food.
"None of your damn business, Smoothie," he retorts, his tone sharp and guarded.
"Is it a wife or somethin'?" you press, unable to shake off your curiosity.
"If you don’t drop the subject, then I will shoot you," he warns, pulling his hat down to cover his eyes. Just as you're about to argue, the geiger counter on your pip-boy starts going off, the sound cutting through the tense atmosphere. The Ghoul looks up at you, alarmed, and rushes to put out the fire. As you stand up and look around for any sign of what could be causing the disturbance, you feel a sudden grip on your arm as he pulls you towards the wall, pressing you against it and covering your mouth with one of his hands.
“Shut the damn thing off,” he whispers urgently to you. You hastily flick through the device and manage to turn off the geiger counter, the sudden silence amplifying the tension in the room.
As you stand frozen against the wall, a hand tightly gripping your waist and another muffling your frightened gasps, he silences you with a shushing motion. The sound of a deep, rumbling growl resonates ominously from the other side of the wall, causing your heart to pound with such intensity that you fear the creature on the other side will hear it.
Desperate for any distraction, your eyes dart towards the nearby window, revealing a glowing yao guai leisurely strolling around the building. His gaze locks onto you, his eyes filled with intensity, as if he can sense the frantic rhythm of your racing pulse beneath your skin. His touch momentarily rubs circle on your waist, but he withdraws abruptly, as though realizing the inappropriateness of the gesture.
Gradually, the footsteps of the yao guai fade into the distance. The Ghoul slowly removes his hand from your mouth, and for a few lingering moments, the two of you simply gaze into each other's eyes. Overwhelmed by a surge of unexpected courage, you reach out and gently caress his cheek, feeling the rough yet surprisingly smooth texture of his scarred skin. Drawing closer, your lips tenderly brush against his.
"You don't want this, sweetheart," he murmurs softly, his words barely grazing your lips.
"And how could you possibly know what I want?" you challenge.
A mischievous smirk dances across his face as he leans in, his breath warm against your skin. "Well, considerin’ you keep referrin’ to me as 'beef jerky,' I'm inclined to believe that most people don't fantasize about dried meat."
"Maybe I do," you assert, the words barely a whisper as you close the gap between you two with a soft kiss. You can sense his hesitation as your part, a subtle tension in his body as he grapples with his own conflicting emotions. In a sudden, bold move, he leans in, capturing your lips with a hunger that takes you by surprise. A low, guttural moan escapes from his mouth, blending with your own as the kiss deepens.
His hand comes up to tug you towards him from the back of your head, intensifying the contact between you. The sensation almost leaves you breathless, eliciting a gasp that mingles with the shared breath between you. You bite his lower lip, a mix of playful teasing and unbridled longing in the gesture. He responds with a deep groan, the sound sending a thrill through you as he presses his hips into yours, the bulge of his arousal evident.
Your heart races as your hands glide down his neck, delicately tracing the contours of his skin. Your touch remains gentle and exploratory as your fingers nimbly unbutton his shirt, slipping beneath the fabric to reach his chest. Tracing the intricate patterns of his skin with care, you relish the intimacy of the moment. He twitches underneath your touch, his bare chest feeling the caress as if for the first time in ages.
Suddenly, he pulls back, his hand gripping your neck and pushing you away forcefully. He stares at you, his grip firm and unyielding. You're left wondering what caused him to snap. Could it have been because you touched his bare skin? You notice his expression shifts from intensity to a hint of vulnerability. His hand slowly releases its grip on your neck, and he takes a step back, creating a distance between you.
Stunned by the sudden denial, you watch as The Ghoul walks away and settles against the opposing wall. With crossed arms and a resigned posture, he leans his head back, uttering a soft “G’night” that hangs in the air like a final farewell to the intense moment you both shared.
Feeling a mix of emotions, you slide down the wall on your side of the room, your breath still heavy and your skin slightly damp with sweat. As you sit there, processing the abrupt end to the passionate encounter, you can't help but feel an anxious pang of rejection. The feeling begins gnawing at you, a heavy ache in your chest that lingers.
The morning sun finds you both silent and tense, caught in the aftermath of the previous night. The air between you is thick, filled with unsaid words and unaddressed feelings. Neither of you managed a good night's sleep, the discomfort of the cold, hard floor only a minor nuisance compared to the war within your minds.
As you both go about packing your things, each movement seems to echo loudly in the silence, punctuating the awkwardness that has settled between you. Neither of you dares to meet the other's gaze, the memory of the stolen kiss lingering in the air like a ghost.
In hindsight, kissing him was a foolish decision. You barely know him, and the little you do know paints him more as an uncompromising brute than a potential romantic interest. Despite the brief moments of camaraderie, he's been a prickly, distant companion for the most part. You find yourself questioning your actions, the taste of regret bitter on your tongue.
“So what’s the plan?” You attempt to lighten the mood, “Seems like we’re not after a head anymore.”
“We’re tracking a woman by the name of Moldaver. That's where the head is goin’,” he responds.
"Flame Mother…" you muse aloud, "I wonder what her deal is."
"I find myself askin’ the same about you," he murmurs almost inaudibly.
With an eye roll, you sling your bag over your shoulder, then give him a nod to signal that you're ready to hit the road. The Ghoul briefly mentions a letter he found on one of the men he shot up in Filly that references Moldaver. He believes that the same man was the son of an old associate of his, and that's where the two of you are headed - a long journey ahead. You take a deep breath, activate your pip-boy, and lock eyes with him. "Let's do this, beef jerky.”

Hey guys! I wanted to put together a list of low spoons foods, and thought you might enjoy it. My primary objective was to come up with a list that requires little to no prep, is relatively inexpensive, and has a fairly long shelf life. There's also a few of my favorite simple recipes at the end. Bon apatite!
Proteins: Tuna/Canned chicken: Canned tuna/chicken can usually last a few years, and you can get it for a dollar or two, sometimes cheaper. It can be cooked easily in a skillet, eaten raw, or added to soups/pasta. Mix with some mayo for a quick tuna or chicken salad that goes well on bread, tortillas, or crackers. You can add raisins or cheese for a little extra variety as well! Breakfast sausage: A lot of meats are really scary to cook with, but I've come to the conclusion that breakfast sausage is designed for people with that groggy, zombie-like morning brain, so it's fairly simple; just pop it on a plate (usually with a paper towel to catch the grease) and toss it in the microwave. You can get it as links or patties, and if you're like me where foods with a hint of flavor are unreasonably spicy, there's a maple variety that's sweet rather than spiced. Deli meats: There's no rule against buying a package of pre-sliced ham, turkey, roast beef or even bologna that's designed for sandwiches and instead just snacking on it when you need some protein, or just serving it on the side with your meal. If it feels weird to just eat sliced deli meat and you've got the time and energy, get some sliced cheese as well, cut them into squares with a butter knife, and eat them with crackers for DIY lunchables. Peanut Butter: Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein, and you can eat it on bread, crackers, tortillas, celery, pancakes, or even just on its own on a spoon! If you don't like the texture, you can mix it into something else like oatmeal, sauces, or pancake batter. If you don't like the flavor, try it with a little cinnamon sugar (put cinnamon and sugar in a jar or shaker and shake it until incorporated.) If you've got a peanut allergy, alternative butters are good too, but often separate if you leave them out for too long, but are much better in baking than on their own. Eggs: Making eggs is hard sometimes, but you can boil a bunch in advance and leave them in the fridge for when you need them (not too many or for too long, though.) Just put them in water and bring it to a boil; once the eggs start to float, leave them there for ten minutes. Once they're done, drain them and leave them in cold water for ten minutes to cool. Either peel in advance if you've got the time, or peel as needed. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Dairy: Sliced Cheese: Just like with deli meats above, you can get sliced cheese to chomp on when you need a little boost. There's a lot of flavors to choose from! Shredded Cheese: Shredded cheese is great for sprinkling onto your meals or just snacking on handfuls of. You can also throw some onto some tortilla chips and pop 'em in the microwave for ~30 seconds to make quick, cheap nachos. Cheese sticks: Not a fan of eating slices or shreds of cheese? Cheese sticks are much more snackable and can be eaten on the go! Yogurt: You can eat it as is, or you can mix in frozen fruits and honey to create an almost ice-cream like treat! Chocolate Milk: A carton of chocolate milk that you are going to drink is better for you than a carton of regular milk that is going to go bad because you can't bring yourself to drink it. If you're like me and milk leaves a weird taste in your mouth, try following it with water or finishing the milk before you finish the rest of your meal. Cream Cheese: You can put this stuff on anything, guys. Bagels? Crackers? Toast? English Muffins? Tortillas? Regular muffins? Cookies, even? Go crazy! Cottage cheese: A lot of people like cottage cheese for salads or with peaches, but it can also be tasty on its own.
Grains: Crackers: You can eat them as is, you can add cream cheese, nutella, peanut butter, tuna salad, deli meats and cheeses, or you could dip them in a spread like hummus, guac, or ranch. Tortillas: Sometimes bread can be Scary and Evil and there's no way you're gonna eat a whole loaf before it goes bad. I get it. Tortillas last longer, they're a better texture, and it's only eight servings per bag. Use them whenever you'd make a sandwich- pb&j, ham & cheese, tuna salad and more can all go in a simple wrap or roll up. If you're feeling ambitious, you can also make a quick breakfast burrito by throwing scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage in a tortilla with a little cheese. Pancake mix: Boxed pancake mix is simple enough- just add water, or milk to make it fluffier, then cook according to instructions. It's a little time consuming, but it's simple to learn, and if you make a big enough batch you can just pop them in the microwave, airfryer, or even the toaster in the morning for the rest of the week. You can also spice up your mix by adding frozen fruits, peanut butter, bacon bits & cheese, or chocolate chips, or by replacing the water in the recipe with coffee, apple cider, or chocolate milk! Toaster Waffles: Toaster waffles are great for a quick breakfast or snack, but can also be used for sandwiches, or topped with a protein like peanut butter!
Fruits and Vegetables: Raisins: Raisins are sweet, inexpensive, take a long time to expire, and are guilt free— no one in the history of ever has ever felt bad about eating too many raisins! You can easily throw them in a trail mix (trail mix is a loose term; just throw whatever little snacks you have in the pantry into a bowl and mix 'em together,) or a chicken salad, and they're really good sprinkled on peanut butter! Dried fruit: You can find these in the trail mix section of most stores. If you don't like raisins, there may be a different dried fruit you do like. Dried bananas are delightfully crunchy. Dried mango is still a little moist. Find a dried fruit that works for you! Pickles: Pickles are a vegetable with an extremely long fridge life. You don't have to settle for pickled cucumber though; you can find all kinds of pickled vegetables at the store, or ask a friend who pickles (you know which friend came to mind) if they have a jar of pickled veggies they'd sell you or any tricks to pickling your own. Frozen Fruit: Fruits last so much longer frozen, and you can get fairly good sized bags of them for not too much at the store. They're great for mixing in with yogurt, baking, pancakes, and more! Frozen Vegetables: If expiration dates are your worst enemy, consider getting some longer lasting frozen veggies. They can be microwaved or added to soups or ramen. If you're not a fan of the taste, you can hide them by adding some in with the frozen fruit in a smoothie. Canned vegetables: Canned veggies also last a while, and can be added to soups, boiled, or sometimes eaten as is. Canned soup: Tomato soup or a soup with veggies in it is a great way to get some vegetables into your diet. You can also add any canned, fresh, or frozen veggies to any can of soup you have on hand to use up some of your leftovers before they go bad. Tomato sauce: If you keep a jar of marinara, pasta, or pizza sauce on hand in the fridge, you can spread it on any grain you have lying around (bagel, biscuit, crackers, bread, english muffin, tortilla) and add shredded cheese to make a quick and fun pizza. You can go crazy with extra toppings as well! Applesauce: It's great as is, but you could also mix in brown sugar and cinnamon, or add it to pancakes or oatmeal. It can also be used as an egg substitute in most of your baking, and you can even use it as a spread on pancakes!
Quick Recipes: 3 Ingredient Pancakes • 1/2 cup applesauce (or one mashed banana) • 1 egg • 1 packet instant oatmeal Mix all ingredients together and cook on a greased skillet at 375°
Two Minute Mug Cake • 6 tablespoons boxed cake mix • 4 tablespoons water or milk Combine ingredients in a mug and microwave for one minute.
Toaster Crispy Quesadilla • 1 tortilla • 1 slice of cheese (I like to use cheddar!) • deli meat Place a slice of cheese toward the top of the tortilla. Layer desired amount of meat on top. Fold the sides over your meat and cheese (so they can't drip out the sides) then fold in half over the cheese (so it won't drip out the bottom.) Place in the toaster with the open end UP! Toast as desired.
Tuna Bagel Melts • plain bagel • tuna salad (one can of tuna with a few spoonfuls of mayo to taste) • two slices cheese Open the bagel and spread tuna salad on it. Place the cheese on top of the bagels. Broil or airfry for a few minutes.
Cracker Pizzas • a dozen crackers • a few tablespoons tomato sauce • three slices of cheese Arrange the crackers on a plate. Spread a spoonful of sauce on each cracker. Fold each slice of cheese into fourths so they break apart. Place one little slice on each cracker. Microwave for thirty seconds.
Simple Smoothie Recipe • 1/2 cup yogurt • 1/2 cup milk • 1/2 cup frozen fruit Combine all ingredients in the blender. Blend. [To make this easier, pre-mark your blender. Add a half cup of water to your blender and mark with a sharpie to the fill level. Repeat twice. You now know what level to fill each ingredient to without the hassle of measuring them.

Spaghetti is on the menu tonight.
There's a pot of water getting close to boiling on the back right burner of the stove, and Steve keeps a close eye on the pan on the front left burner as his special recipe homemade tomato sauce (the one Eddie can't get enough of) simmers away.
He's humming under his breath — Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, he heard it on the radio earlier and it's been stuck in his head since — stirring the sauce periodically.
The big pot starts to bubble, so Steve sets the wooden spoon down and reaches for the pack of noodles, box already cracked open and waiting to be overturned into the boiling water.
That's when Eddie shuffles into the kitchen.
"Mm, smells good in here," he says, joining Steve at the stove. He drapes himself over his back, like the clingy koala he secretly is. He tucks his chin over Steve's shoulder and curls his arms around Steve's middle, hands dipping beneath the fabric of his shirt to press against the soft of his stomach.
"Should be ready in ten," Steve tells him, leaning back into Eddie’s touch.
"Good, m'hungry," Eddie replies, pressing his lips to the side of Steve's neck. He bares his teeth, bites down just a little.
It makes Steve laugh softly, squirm a little to get Eddie to quit it. "That tickles," he complains, and Eddie laughs into his skin.
"Can't help myself, baby, you just taste so good," Eddie says, then presses a kiss to the spot — an apology.
"Grab me a clean spoon?" Steve asks, giving the sauce another stir.
"I guess," Eddie responds with a pout, not wanting to let go. He keeps one arm around Steve and pulls away from his back just enough to allow him to stretch his other arm out to rifle through the silverware drawer and snatch up the requested spoon.
"Thanks," Steve says, taking the spoon. He tips his head back to press a kiss to Eddie's forehead, as best as he can from the awkward angle.
He sets the wooden spoon aside, and dips the clean spoon into the sauce, cupping his palm beneath it as he brings it up to his lips for a taste. "Hm," he hums after the test, smacking his mouth as he tries to figure out what's missing. "It needs something else."
Eddie taps the side of Steve's hand. "Lemme taste," he requests.
Steve dips the spoon back in, then twists in Eddie's arms to hold it out for him.
When Eddie leans in, he bypasses the proffered spoon and instead catches Steve's mouth in a kiss.
Steve laughs into the kiss, the smile that breaks out across his face getting in the way.
"Tastes perfect to me," Eddie says, grinning wide enough that his dimples leave deep indents in his cheeks.
Steve rolls his eyes fondly and pushes his hand into Eddie's face. Eddie just catches his wrist and turns his head so he nuzzles his cheek into Steve's palm.
Eddie does eventually let Steve guide the spoonful into his open mouth after, copying Steve by smacking his lips. "Maybe some salt?" He suggests, and Steve nods.
Eddie doesn't wait for him to ask for it, just darts across the counter to their little spice rack, pulling the salt from its spot. He hands it over to Steve, and takes up his place behind him once more.
Steve starts to hum again as he adds the salt, stirring it in. He makes it to just before the chorus and stops, bending down for another taste.
That's when Eddie decides to pick the song up himself, only he starts to sing it out loud instead. He keeps his voice soft, but lets it fill their little kitchen as he warbles out the lyrics.
The sauce is simmering, the pasta is cooking — nothing needs their direct attention. So Eddie takes it upon himself to snatch up Steve's hand, take a step back, and twirl him around.
"Eddie!" Steve cries out in surprise, and he goes spinning back into Eddie's arms, facing him this time.
"Steve," Eddie says between verses, amusement dripping, then swings him right into a happy little dance, matching the pace of the song as he croons the lyrics out.
Steve laughs as he stumbles into Eddie's arms, and tries to protest, tries to say, "But dinner!"
Eddie just waves a hand. "Dinner will be fine," he tells Steve. "Dance with me." And he wraps his arms around Steve's waist so that Steve has no choice but to loop his around Eddie's neck, and sways them around.
The dying golden light of the day streams through their curtains, painting the kitchen in a warm glow, and Steve allows himself to be led through it to the smooth cherrywood of Eddie's voice as he sings out the jaunty lyrics to the song he knows Steve loves.
As the song comes to a close, Eddie finishes it with a flourish, and tries to dip Steve, who squawks out in surprise and clutches tighter onto Eddie's neck, laughing and smiling and warning Eddie not to drop him.
When he rights Steve again, Steve shakes his head and reaches up to cup Eddie's jaw, to guide him in for a kiss. Slow, deep, toe-curling.
"You're ridiculous," he says. "I love you."
Eddie's smile glows, his eyes sparkle. "I love you, too." And he leans in for another kiss.
(If they end up making out a little, pressed against the kitchen island, and the pasta overcooks a bit, well, it's just the two of them eating it, so it doesn't really matter.)
By then, dinner is pretty much ready, so Eddie reluctantly leaves Steve's side to fetch the plates, and Steve drains the pasta and adds it to the sauce.
They sit across from one another at their tiny little table, knees knocking and legs tangled beneath. They hold hands over the tabletop and share twin smiles as they enjoy their meal together.
Spaghetti night is always a good night.

Kitchen Kisses
Yet another 10th doctor x reader. Am I ashamed? Yes. Will I stop obsessing over this man any time soon? Absolutely not. Requests are open. Sorry if this is short, I wrote it in a hurry. Reader is gn and as always this is also on my Ao3. Idk if I should start making a masterlist. Enjoy!!
Tumblr media
Cooking wasn't easy for you.
Every time you even came remotely close to a stove, it seemed ready to explode. Even so, you could manage on your own most times. You could warm up milk and boil pasta with (almost) no problems. Plus, you could always count on delivery.
You couldn't count on someone to deliver you a pizza, however, on a spaceship like the TARDIS. You also couldn't count on your culinary skills anymore, because you ended up being continuously distracted by the Doctor. He had the tendency to often look over your shoulder and suddenly ask if whatever you'd been cooking was ready, or if you needed anything, or if that fire in the corner was normal (it never was).
Nevertheless, you never gave up. Alien food couldn't always be healthy for you, you thought, referring to all the snacks the Doctor got for you in your travels; plus, you really wanted to impress him. "One of these days you're going to crawl to me begging for a recipe", you jokingly bragged, making him smirk; "yeah, sure, one of these days", he replied sarcastically, getting your cheeks all red.
It had been a rough day, full of adventures and trouble, and you had been left with a headache and too little to keep your hands busy with. You'd decided to scurry over to the kitchen to attempt (and probably fail) at making an omelette. You played some music on your cellphone and got to work.
Step one: crack the egg. Done. Step two: heat the pan. Also done. Step three: add the oil. You almost burned yourself, but nevertheless you got it done.
You looked around before going onto step four. It was odd. The Doctor wasn't around to distract you, the music was relaxing, nothing was on fire. It almost seemed impossible. Nonetheless, it wasn't over yet.
Step four: add the egg. You poured the liquid into the fizzing oil very carefully. Success! In your head you cheered, a smile making its way onto your lips.
Suddenly, you felt yourself being hugged, and audibly gasped. Realizing it was only the Doctor (who else but him smelled like candle wax and argan oil?) you sighed, relieved. "You scared me."
"Sorry. Whatcha making?" he asked, peeking at what was cooking in the pan. "Egg?"
"Yeah. I'm making an omelette. Wanna share?"
"If it survives the process," he laughed. You giggled with him. "What's that music?"
"Just my playlist. It was supposed to help me stay focused."
"Why are you using the past tense?"
"Because now you're here to distract me, aren't you?"
The Doctor smiled. "Not at all!" he chuckled. "Why do you think that?"
You raised an eyebrow. "Because you always distract me."
"You mean you can't focus when I'm around?"
"Yes." You realized what it sounded like as soon as the Time Lord stared at you with his satisfied smirk plastered onto his face. "Wait. No. No, I didn't mean that. Stop looking at me like that."
"Like what?"
"Like I said exactly what you wanted to hear."
"Well, maybe you did say exactly what I wanted to hear."
There was silence for a couple seconds. His arms were still around you. He was so warm.
His lips were also warm. They made their way over to yours, erasing every inch of space left between the two of you. Your breaths slowed down. Time didn't stop, it went on and on and on, and the seconds you shared with your bodies pressed together like that didn't feel like years to you, but maybe to the Time Lord they did. You were broken apart by the sound of the oil fizzing a little too loud. With his arms still around your waist, the Doctor turned off the stove.
"Better get back to your cooking", he whispered, testing the waters.
You smiled. "Why would I do that now? I'm busy."
"Busy?"
"Indeed. Very busy kissing your stupid face until you say sorry for startling me earlier."
The Doctor gave you one of his best smiles. "Well, then, let's get down to business. But I'm not saying sorry if that means you'll stop kissing me. You know that, right?"
"You dumbo. C'mere", you murmured, kissing him again.

Three-Ingredient stovetop mac & cheese
HEY did you know you can make awesome mac & cheese at home without messing with a bechamel or a freaking Kraft box and it's cheap and easy? Look at this shit:
Tumblr media
Your three ingredients:
Pasta, 6 oz (about 1 cup)
Evaporated milk (NOT condensed) 6 oz (evap milk conveniently is sold in 12 oz cans)
Cheese, 6 oz, shredded. Use whatever kind you like. I used cheddar with a bit of American mixed in. Go nuts. Also if you can, buy block cheese and shred it yourself - pre shredded cheese has stuff on it to prevent clumping which is fine for like, nachos, but in recipes always shred your own if possible.
The Method:
Use a skillet. Put the pasta in and add water to cover plus a bit more, plus salt (you can always add more water as it cooks down if your pasta isn't done enough). Bring to a boil and stir. You will NOT be draining this - the starch from the pasta is what thickens the cheese sauce. Stir until the water's almost gone - check doneness of pasta. If it's too firm still, add a bit more water.
Once the water's nearly gone, add in the milk. Bring it to a boil and stir for a minute or so - you could also add a bit of butter here, or some pepper, or whatever spices you might like. Then add in the cheese and stir until melted. Stir it a bit until it starts to tighten up - take it off the heat when it's still a bit loose as it will keep thickening as long as it's warm.
Decant into bowl, consume with relish. It reheats good, too. This works because the evaporated milk proteins provide emulsifiers to make the cheese melt smoothly (I found that adding that little bit of American cheese - which has meltifying stuff already in it - helps stabilize the sauce too). It's very yum.
Note: this is a recipe from America's Test Kitchen.
