a/n: happy birthday wonnie!

Yang Jungwon could be very loud when he wanted to be.

“She loves me… she loves me not,” he lamented, lips contorted in a slight frown, and perhaps even his eyes were twitching. In his hands, he held his victim—one of the stems of the blood red roses that sat in a vase on your counter. With every set of phrases spoken, he plucked a delicate, velvety petal from its bud and let it flutter to the stone countertop.

He sighed loudly like a bored damsel from his tower. “She loves me! She loves me NOT—”

The sound of your bedroom door opening cut him off as you hustled out of your room while shouldering on your (his) jacket. You leveled him with an unimpressed look. “Oh my god, Jungwon, I was literally getting ready.”

Jungwon broke into a dimpled grin. “Whoops,” he giggled, plopping the poor rose onto the counter with a sad fwump.

“You’re so dramatic,” you sighed, shaking your head as you slid your shoes on.

“I missed you; sue me! You were gone for so long.” He joined you at the door of your apartment where a small mirror hung on the wall for last minute touch-ups. While you adjusted a stray lock of hair in your face, Jungwon came up behind you to gently fix the folded collar of the jacket.

Your eyebrows shot up. “I was gone for five minutes.”

“Okay, and?”

Before you could retort, he pressed a kiss to your cheek. “You look cute in this,” he said, gesturing to the jacket. The two of you slipped out of the door and out into the hallway. “Wonder when you stole it from my closet.”

At that comment, you couldn’t help but laugh. “Won, you gave it to me last month to wear ‘cause I was cold. You’re not slick.”

Jungwon rolled his eyes as he grabbed your hand and swung your entwined hands between you as you walked down the hallway. “Details, details… I think I’m pretty slick.”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night, but either way—” you told him, playfully bumping your shoulder with his, "—I guess I still love you."

He giggled then, cheeks indented with his crescent-eyed grin. “I guess I still love you, too.”

Notes from brooke: i have once again started a passion project 😌 jokes aside i really am excited for this one because from the moment i started writing it i have not stopped, which is why i decided to impulsively post this teaser<3 rockstar! taeyong has been a fat thought on my mind from the moment he performed his solo on the first 127 show and i am finally doing something about it.

From the very moment Taeyong walked through the door, he could tell that Irene was beyond pissed.

It wasn’t a new sight to him, he had been subjected to an angry manager many many times before, almost too many to count. Since he was so used to it, he didn’t pay her too much attention as he plopped down on the couch in the studio, lazily resting his arm on the armrest and propping his legs up on the table in front of it.

“He lives,” Yuta muttered under his breath, the slightest smile on his face. Taeyong let his eyes scan the room, noting that each one of the members of his band- and his best friends- were present.

He had known most of them since they were teenagers in high school. Now, even four years later, there was not another group of people he would rather be stuck with. Yuta was the drummer and a damn good one at that.

“Were we having a party I wasn’t told about?”

The don’t care-ish tone of his voice evidently didn’t sit well with Irene, whose glare only grew in intensity. She slapped a tabloid of sorts on the wall beside her, lips pinched in a mixture of exasperation and anger.

“This is not a party, Taeyong. With your track record, you should never be allowed into one.” Her words were clipped and swift, but she had always been one to literally and figuratively rip the bandaid off. Unaffected, he pouted.

“Aw, what did I do now?” The moment he said that she held that very tabloid up for the entire band to squint at, and he just about made out the headline of it.

“You,” she said the pronoun with such distaste that Taeyong had half a mind to act offended, but he knew better than that. If anything, he probably deserved the treatment she was dishing out to him right now. “Went and got caught by the paps a few nights ago, drunk as fuck with another girl hanging off your arm like candy.”

His eyes focused on the poorly taken picture that was plastered all over the front of the tabloid. As terrible as the photograph was, one thing that fame had taught him was that if you had fans, you could be recognized from just about anything, and it was definitely him on there.

He didn’t even remember the girl's name. Pity.

“You called us all here for this?” Doyoung cut through the silence, a disgruntled look on his face. Doyoung was on keys, but was somewhat of a prodigy in himself, being able to master almost any instrument he put his mind to. He was also what you’d refer to as the responsible one of the group, the one with the least drama.

The other two in the band were Mark and Jeno, two guitarists that were excellent in their own right. Jeno was the youngest, and the only one that hadn’t known the rest since their high school days. They met the boy at the building of their label, and he blended in so well with the rest of the band that has him in it had been a no-brainer decision.

“I was just having some fun,” Taeyong protested, “All the other guys do it as well.”

“Yes Taeyong, but they aren’t the front of the group, neither are they the media's favorite portrayal of a fuckboy, even if you live up to that title better than you should.” She snipped and he sighed.

That was what he was. Lee Taeyong, frontman, and the bassist. He was also one of the main vocalists, though the entire band did the singing as a team.

When he started out at the ripe age of nineteen, he never expected to be thrust into the limelight as he had been. Managing to land the record deal when they were nothing more than wide-eyed kids with a dream was a miracle in itself, but what seemed like an overnight success was overwhelming.

He had taken on the role of something of a leader within the band, but it had come with its own set of rules. Being the face of the group meant that he received more attention than the others, something he had never been pleased about due to situations like this.

Enter Irene, their manager who had been with the group since day one. Now, she pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration.

“Tour is coming up,” She warned, “For once could you put on your big boy pants and behave? You have to be on your best behaviour.”

“Irene,” He drawled, “When am I not an angel?”

“Your halo looks a lot like devil horns from here,” She grumbled, shutting her eyes and mentally counting to ten. Despite all her complaining about their wild lifestyle, he knew she loved being with them too much to quit working for them. Taeyong only grinned.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

Yang Jungwon was usually good at sleeping through the night, especially when he had you tucked into his embrace. But his eyes fluttered open, a soft groan falling from his lips, as he saw the rusted night sky outside the bedroom window.

Careful to not bother you—who slept so soundly on his chest—he reached for his phone on the nightstand. With a quick double tap, the time 00:01 flashed in his light-sensitive eyes.

Relief befell him at the sight of the time; plenty of time left to snooze.

A small smile graced his face as he tightened his hold around you, ready to settle in for a hearty eight or so more hours. He could feel himself start to relax and match his heartbeat with yours… slower and slower… until—

The thought popped into his head like the flicking of a light switch.

"Honey," he crooned to you softly.

You stirred. "Mm?" Your hand gripped onto the fabric of his T-shirt, and Jungwon cooed at how cute you were. Perhaps he had just disturbed your peace, but it was all for good reason.

He pressed his lips to the crown of your head. "It's your birthday. Happy birthday, my love."

The words hadn't quite sunken into your half-sleep conscience, but you murmured a "thank you" to him anyway.

He chuckled, biting a smile back. Then he gently cupped his hand over the back of your head and closed his eyes. When he awoke later, he would happily say it to you again.
