Happy holidays @yoshiintheweb !!! This is my gift to you for the @mcytblrholidayexchange. I hope you enjoy!
I saw Vampire Fwhip in your requests and got very excited, because I have been obsessed with Dracula this year. I hope you enjoy this Roseblings/Wither Rose Alliance vampire au! The playlist has songs that are vampire-coded (to me), as well as songs that just fit the vibe. The fic is epistolary like the original Dracula novel. It's sometimes serious, sometimes silly, and hopefully a lot of fun to read. Fic under the cut :)
Fwhip’s Diary, Sept. 17
So, my teeth are definitely getting sharper.
That shouldn’t be a surprise, but it’s definitely going to take some getting used to. You don’t just wake up to your teeth being different and say “Oh yeah, that’s not weird at all. Totally fine. Already adjusted to it.” Like, you don’t realize how well you know your teeth until they’re wrong. Ugh.
It is fine though… I think. We still have time before the transformation is irreversible. Between Gem and I, we’ll figure it out soon. That’s what we’ve always done.
It’ll be fine.
Right?
Gem’s Diary, Sept. 22
I finally got my hands on that book on vampire lore! Who knew the occult section of our local library would be so popular? (And to that, who even knew our local library even had an occult section??)
It has the best recipe I’ve found for a blood replacement meal for Fwhip, and this one doesn’t even need any sheep’s blood or expensive coconut water! Fwhip seems to like it pretty well too, which is an added bonus.
The rest of the book was pretty useful, beyond the basics (avoid sunlight, garlic, wolfsbane, silver, giant stakes in the heart, you name it.) It had some pretty good tips on how to slow the transformation, and of course what to do when we find the vampire who started all this.
We still don’t have any leads on said vampire, but I’m optimistic. It’s most likely they’re in this town or the next town over since they usually have to rest in their original grave during the day. Honestly it’s not surprising, all things about our local history considered...
Fwhip’s Diary, Sept. 30
We finally told Sausage. He wasn’t really buying my “sudden garlic allergy” story to begin with, and he was asking a lot of questions, so we figured we might as well let him on it instead of keeping secrets from him. And he’s taking the news pretty well actually! It turns out one of his cousins is a werewolf, which is… not quite the same thing? But his heart is in the right place.
He’s really enthusiastic about helping us with all this, which is helpful because he’s the only friend we know with a car. We want to drive to Dogwood Grove to investigate one of their graveyards. It’s the oldest one in the county, with a proper mausoleum and everything. Maybe we’ll find that vampire’s hideout and get him to turn me back. Maybe we won’t even have to use the crossbow I’m building.
Gem’s Diary, Oct. 2
This isn’t strictly related to our research, but I thought it was interesting. The author of that vampire lore compendium, X. Thorn, also wrote a book on demonology, and I was curious enough to check it out too.
Apparently Thorn was an expert on all things occult, but also just a little… weird. I suppose that comes with the territory. He wanted to summon a demon army and conquer the world. Or maybe become a demon? It wasn’t super clear by the end of the book to be perfectly honest. He was kind of obsessed with some demon called Xornoth that he wanted to summon (or maybe it was his demon-sona? it’s not really clear which of those it was, and he published these books like a hundred years ago so we can’t exactly ask him.) Incidentally, Thorn was from right here in Rivendell. I wonder if we’ll come across his name any more during our search.
Fwhip’s Diary, Oct. 3
Well, Sausage was the only friend we knew with a car. Now we’re all out of luck.
Last night we were coming back from a research trip to Dogwood Grove when a white fox ran out onto the road in front of us. Sausage swerved and luckily missed it, and his car wound up in the ditch. We’re all safe, if a bit shaken, but his car is totaled.
It’s weird… I didn’t know we had many foxes in these parts, much less arctic-looking foxes? I mean, I guess that’s not the absolute weirdest thing about this town (I’m literally turning into a vampire right now), but it’s still unusual.
In any case, we need to figure out a new ride soon. The recipe Gem found for substitute blood is fine, but I’m starting to get thirstier. A lot thirstier...
Gem’s Diary, Oct. 5
I’ve noticed Fwhip isn’t sleeping much anymore.
He stays up most of the day when we’re doing our research, although he can’t go outside without SPF 1000 and my old floppy beach hat. At night I usually find him in the garage working on his inventions. He’s always been a gearhead, but he only ever throws himself into his work to this extent when something is seriously bothering him. When I ask him how he’s taking all this he insists he’s fine, but… well, I’ve known him my whole life. I know when he’s lying.
There have been a couple recent incidents at night when I wake up in the small hours to find him standing at the bedroom window just staring. I call out to him, but he doesn’t hear me. It seems like he’s sleepwalking, which is something he’s never done our whole lives. After a few minutes he turns, looks at me with eyes that look right through me, and silently goes back downstairs. I ask him about it in the morning but he doesn’t remember any of it.
Fwhip’s Diary, Oct. 9
Good news, we found someone with a car who’s willing to help us get around! Bad news, it’s Sausage’s cousin… the werewolf.
Gem’s Diary, Oct. 9
Don’t get me wrong, Pearl seems really nice, and I’d probably get along with her great in any other circumstance. The problem is, well, the circumstance. I guess vampires and werewolves don’t exactly get along? It’s hard to describe the feeling I get around her, but I’m just so uneasy. I mean, for her part she’s polite to me, even if she might feel the same as I do.
I guess it’s good to have her on the team, and anyone to help us fight the vampire who turned me is good to have along. I just don’t want to have her around any more than we need to for right now. I’ll talk to Gem about that in the morning when she wakes up, hopefully she’s on the same page as me.
Pearl is the coolest person I think I’ve ever met. She has a van called Gilda that’s covered in sunflowers, she lives on a farm, she’s a classically-trained fencer, and she’s a werewolf?! I love her. I want her to join our group and also stay forever.
Fwhip’s Diary, Oct. 13
Gem found something in one of the books about hypnotism, and we decided to give it a try. It’s supposed to help slow the transformation process, which would be good because I feel less and less like myself every day.
The thing is, when I was in the trance I kept getting these visions. There were shapes I couldn’t make out at first, and a smell of somewhere damp and musty, and the sound of stone on stone. But then I saw myself standing in a cemetery, right in front of an old mausoleum. There was an angel statue next to it which was pointing at the doorway, and a great big oak tree behind it. I really get the feeling that I’ve seen this before. I just can’t remember where.
I’m not really sure if the hypnotism is working to hold off the transformation. My teeth – fangs, really – are sharper than ever before. And last night I dreamed I was flying through the night sky on dark wings. At least, I hope it was a dream.
Gem’s Diary, Oct. 18
We found the mausoleum from Fwhip’s vision! And get this, the family it belongs to? The Thorn family. That’s right, the same X. Thorn who wrote all those occult books. Somehow I knew he would come back up.
I did some more reading, and it looks like Thorn had a half-brother named Scott. Scott was actually one of Rivendell’s mayors, and he and his brother had a couple of public clashes that led to him stepping down from his mayoral seat. Then a few years later, he just apparently disappeared without a trace. In one of his last journal entries before his disappearance, he lists a bunch of symptoms eerily similar to vampirism: aversion to sunlight, sudden allergies to nightshade-family plants, and he couldn’t bring himself to enter the cathedral he had once attended regularly. If I’m right that Thorn was behind those incidents, we may have a solid lead. I’m going to see if I can find a picture of him to show Fwhip. That may help to confirm it.
I think we’re getting very close. I just hope we’re quick enough.
Fwhip’s Diary, Oct. 18
As soon as Gem showed me a portrait of X. Thorn, I knew that was who we’re after. It was just an old painting, but it sent a chill down my entire body. I would know that face anywhere. That’s the face that keeps me up at night. Those were the eyes I saw that night. The eyes of Xornoth, Dark Lord of the Night.
I know what we have to do now. Even if it destroys me, which the books say is about a 50/50 chance, we have to stop Xornoth for good.
I won’t let this happen to anyone else.
Gem’s Diary, Oct. 27
I’m starting to agree with Fwhip about garlic to be honest. We just had to buy, like so much. Garlic cloves, garlic flowers, garlic salt, garlic powder. It’s all for the binding ritual, which will hopefully go off without a hitch and get Fwhip back to normal without complications.
With the garlic, we have everything we should need now. Fwhip has his contraptions, I have the charged crystals, and Sausage got us some holy water. The only thing now is to wait for the next full moon.
Fwhip’s Diary, Nov. 6
Tonight was the night. It took a while for us to prepare everything, but we finished right before dusk. We all waited just outside the mausoleum door until we heard the scraping of stone against stone. Not long after, we heard an unearthly growl. That was our cue.
We found him trapped in the binding circle, spitting and hissing. When he saw us there, he got quiet for a second, and then started to laugh. This is the part I’d like to say that we were super cool and didn’t cower at all… and you know what? This is MY diary, and I want to keep my cool image. So yeah, we were like, “Hey Xornoth, turn me back into a human NOW or else we’ll send you back to your grave.” And he was like, “Oh no, please spare me! You’re too cool and that crossbow is super sick and-”
Gem’s Diary, Nov. 6
That’s not what happened.
Fwhip’s Diary
Yes, it totally is!
Gem’s Diary
Oh my god.
Fwhip’s Diary
Alright then, how would you tell it?
Gem’s Diary
Sausage screamed and your voice cracked when you were trying to confront Xornoth. And then he laughed at you. Pearl had to be the one to force him into starting the ritual to turn you back.
Fwhip’s Diary
Well, you also screamed.
Gem’s Diary
I’m not denying that! I’m just trying to keep you to the facts. Geez.
Fwhip’s Diary
In any case, the process worked! I have a reflection in the mirror again, and my teeth are slowly going back to normal. And we managed to banish Xornoth, or Thorn, or whatever you want to call him, back to his grave for good. A win all around, I’d say!
The one thing left that’s bothering me is, I think we’re missing one of the vials of blood replacement from the fridge. Gem was meticulous when she made those, with a date labeled on each vial so we could track my intake. The only other people who knew about those are Sausage and Pearl, and both of them swore they didn’t touch it. I just hope no one drank it. It has nasty consequences if you’re not already a vampire.
Well, that’s a problem for another day. At least we know none of our friends were dumb enough to drink it, right?
...

Sausage’s Diary, Nov. 7
I’M A VAMPIRE NOW??? THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!1!! I CAN’T WAIT TO SHOW PEARL!!! :D

The Price May Be Right - Number 10
Welcome to “The Price May Be Right!” I’ve been counting down My Top 31 Favorite Vincent Price Performances & Appearances! The countdown will cover movies, TV productions, and many more forms of media. We’ve officially reached the Top 10 for this countdown! Today we focus on Number 10: His Appearance on The Muppet Show.
Tumblr media
It may seem odd to put this appearance in my top ten, since it’s essentially Vincent just playing himself in the most literal fashion, and it’s…well…the Muppets. Not exactly the land of complex layers of performance. But for some reason, as time has gone one, I’ve come to love Vincent’s appearance in the Muppet Show more and more than I already always did. In my opinion, it’s not only one of his best appearances in anything ever, it’s also probably my favorite episode of The Muppet Show. So, strange as it may seem, I see no reason not to. The Muppet Show usually didn’t have any specific PLOT to its episodes, but a lot of episodes did have certain motifs and themes in them. Sometimes it would be a case of the Muppets trying to do some sort of story, like “Alice in Wonderland” or “Robin Hood.” Other times, it would be more focused on whoever the guest was. Vincent is the latter case. With Vincent Price as the special guest of the evening, Kermit and the gang decide to put on a spooky-themed show, with jokes and sketches that parody various tropes of horror films. Vincent, naturally, appears in several of these sketches, and all of them are hilarious, largely because it’s Vincent in charge of the jesting. If there was ever a guest on the show who could out-Muppet the Muppets, it was probably this glorious ham. In one sketch he plays a werewolf who visits Fozzie and Gonzo in a haunted castle. In another sketch, the Muppets satirize Vincent’s culinary hobbies as a great chef, with Vincent appearing in a talk show segment with Kermit, a Muppet Chef…aaand a Muppet Monster, Gorgon Heap, who – with Vincent’s encouragement – devours the other two Muppets involved. Probably the ost famous sketch, however, is one where Kermit asks Vincent to teach him how to act like a vampire. I find that one especially funny, because Vincent, surprisingly, didn’t actually play vampires that often at all. In fact, I can think of only one or two occasions beyond the Muppet Show where he did! And those occasions weren’t very good! But whatever: I’ll take Vampire Kermit and Vampire Vincent over anything in the bloody Twilight Saga any day. Vincent also, in the original release of the episode, had a song sequence, where he and a bunch of the Muppet Monsters sang a ghoul-themed version of “You’ve Got a Friend.” It’s a pity that sequence is actually edited out of most modern releases (I think because of copyright issues, but I’m not sure), because honestly, after hearing Vincent Price and a gaggle of Muppets sing that song with a pipe organ, it’s hard to hear that song any other way since. XD Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 9!

Vampire Eddie Headcanons
Tumblr media
Read my werewolf steve headcanons here
If you have any requests or thoughts for werewolf steve and vampire eddie, leave them in my inbox!
NSFW BELOW THE CUT (sfw as well, everything will be marked)
Warnings: blood, scars, smut, oral (afab receiving), blood (nsfw)
First I feel like I need to describe my ideal type of vampire because there are so many different variations. So the vampires in my head all have the fangs and red eyes that don’t go away (they’re alway present), don’t need sleep but can sleep if they’d like, and can go out in the daylight but start to slowly feel like they need to be recharged after so long.
SFW Fluff
Eddie, much like steve, hangs around you. All. The. Time. He has a protective air about him when it comes to you.
He’s not as affectionate as werewolf steve, but he’s not afraid to flash his fangs at anyone he feels threatened by when it comes to you.
Cue you scolding him about it because people were trying to hunt him down when he was human, imagine what would happen if they found out he was a vampire.
You make him wear sunglasses while out in public, as to not draw attention to his red eyes or dark under eye circles that have become a permanent part of his face.
He stays with you at night, claiming that he’s gonna protect you if any other supernatural being tries to get you in your sleep.
He’s always cuddled up with you while you sleep though, and whenever he does sleep, he always wakes up at even the faintest sound coming from outside.
You don’t let him stay outside during the day for too long because he does get tired and then he needs rest afterwards. It’s usually just visits to family video to see steve and robin or going to see dustin (all of whom know about eddie and steve’s supernatural attributes)
SFW Angst
Eddie was terrified of when you first found him after he’d changed. He was so afraid he was going to hurt you, that he tried to put space between you. (He’s come to learn that it’s much easier with you though)
He was also a little insecure about his new look. You’d always complimented his “big brown eyes” when he was a human, and now they were gone, changed to a bright, off putting to some, red. Then of course there are the scars from the bats that never fully healed.
You assure him that you still think he’s the most beautiful person you’ve ever met and he sort of just melts.
When it comes to feeding, he put a hard no when you’d offered your own blood, afraid he might take too much. But when you’re cuddled up close to him and he can smell the sweet scent of it along your neck it’s tempting.
He does finally allow himself to feed on you, always making sure to only take what he actually needs. (Which leaves you with fang marks on your neck for everyone to see the next few days)
NSFW
Alright, we’ve all read eddie smut, I’m gonna say not much has changed since he’s become a vampire, he’s still the same eager bastard he was before
He’s got an insane amount of stamina in him now though, it’s hard to keep up
Also, pain, if he didn’t use it before, it’s absolutely present now
He softly nips all over your body, and his fangs add a sharp pain to the pleasure
He loved going down on you before, but loves it even more now, and yeah, I’m gonna say it, especially if you’re on your period. It’s actually really hard to pull him off of you then.
He’ll say “It’s just coming out of you, this is a win win for us.” as he smirks and traces his tongue along your folds

Ronancetober Day 2
yes all of these will be late im busy all the time
anyway the word count on this one is 5000+ (i got carried away) so have fun with that
Prompt: werewolf/vampire
WC: 5047
Warnings: some descriptions of injuries, nothing too graphic, but it is there
“Nancy?”
The teen froze, utterly still at the sound of her father’s voice. How he had found her, now of all times, like this, she didnt know.
“Dad,” she said, stumbling back. “Dad, please, wait, I can explain!”
The gun still hadn’t moved, but Ted Wheeler’s jaw was hanging from his skull, eyes wider than moons.
Never in a billion years had he thought he would be staring at his daughter, covered in blood, fanged, and draining a deer carcass.
Nancy kept her hands up, eyes trained on the weapon in his hands. Her heart was hammering, and she kept trying to get far enough away to bolt before he had time to shoot her.
“Nancy, what the hell is this?” He said, gun now wavering in his grip. “A joke? This is not funny, Nancy, you know how dangerous vampires are.”
“Dad, I’m-I’m not, I mean, I am, but-“
There was nothing she could think of to say, four years of hiding, and she had no idea how to try and hide from this.
A gunshot cracked through the night sky, and Nancy stumbled back, hand going to her stomach, shock clear on her face.
Ted’s gun was aimed at her, the end of the barrel still smoking, his face a stone-still mask.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
Another gunshot, and her vision went black.
Tumblr media
“Still nothing?”
Robin slammed the phone down on the receiver, snarling when she did.
Steve and Jonathan both were on their own home phones, they were talking through the radios, trying to get ahold of Mike and Nancy.
Three days since the full moon, the first one Nancy had missed. With no warning and no apology, nothing at all from her, and Robin was worried.
“Have your kids found anything?” Robin asked. “Gotten ahold of Mike or Karen?”
“Will says Mike was going on a trip with his dad,” Jonathan said. “But he didnt say where.”
“Another hunting trip, then,” Steve said, and Robin shivered. The Wheeler family may seem unassuming at first, but everyone in Hawkins knew them as one of the oldest and most skilled monster hunting families. And with all the strange shit they’ve had to deal with over the years, that might seem like a good thing, until you saw their ragtag group, especially the non-human ones.
Robin was their resident werewolf, bitten during the Vecna situation, changed for the first time four days after the quakes.
Will and El, both of them because of their experiences in the Upside Down, were telekinetic, Will’s powers more subtle, but still there. Still something other.
Eddie was… something, that was for sure. He didnt know exactly what had caused it, but something had given him enhanced speed, sense of smell, even strength, all with an unfortunate allergy to silver tacked on top.
Nancy was the one in the most danger of all of them, wolves could be hunted down, and those that weren’t rarely lived longer than most humans, and the ones that did that only lived so long because they learned to blend in, until they weren’t threats. Psychics were the same, they weren’t immortal or blessed with longer lives.
But nance? She was a vampire, a fledgling, sure, but still one of the most hated and hunted monsters in the world. And if anyone had found out she was one, and that Mike had been helping her hide what she was, they were both dead.
Or worse.
“Steve? Jonathan, Robin is that you?” Mike’s voice came from their radios, and she grabbed hers.
“Little Wheeler, where’ve you been?” Steve said. “We’ve been trying to find you for hours.”
“I know, I had to hide my radio and turn it off,” Mike said. “We need to meet somewhere ASAP.”
“Basement?” Jonathan asked.
“No! Somewhere far away from my house, and we have to go soon!”
Tumblr media
They settled on Skull Rock, Robin jumping out of Steve’s car to go run and find the other kid.
Mike was waiting there, pacing back and forth (based on the worn-down grass, he’d been here for a while). When he heard Robin coming, he turned around, and his face lit up.
“Oh Robin, thank god you’re safe,” he said, tackling her in a hug. “I thought they might have gotten you too.”
Steve and Jonathan came running up next, Eddie close behind them.
“What are you talking about, Mike?” Robin asked, holding him by his shoulders. “Where’s Nancy?”
Mike’s eyes welled up, and her heart dropped.
“Dad caught her four days ago, just before the full moon,” he said, pointing to the map. “Right here. Neither of us knew he was going out to hunt or patrol or whatever, but he got her.”
“How do you know? Have you seen her?”
Mike’s head shook back and forth. “No, I didn’t, and Dad only said something about catching one, but he didn’t say it was Nancy.”
“So how do we know it was her?” Eddie said. The others shot him a look, and he raised his hands. “All I’m saying is we better be sure that it is her before we try and fight your dad.”
“He told mom to get me out of the house, Holly too,” Mike said. “He’s never done that with other kills or captures. It was Nancy.”
“How do we know she’s alive?”
Everyone looked at Will, who looked sick to his stomach, but he held fast.
“Ted kills every monster he comes across, why would Nancy be different? Because she’s his kid? You know he doesn’t think like that.”
Robin could remember all too well the way Mike had reacted when Nancy had told him she was a vampire, had been for years without him knowing. He’d tried to stake her, spitting out hateful things he’d been taught from birth by Ted, until Robin had knocked him out, then they all knocked some sense into him.
Funnily enough, it had been Will’s revelation he was technically non-human too now that had made Mike see sense.
“She’s a fledgling vampire,” he said. “Fledglings have a stronger connection to the ones that turned them than full vamps. If she’s alive, Dad is going to try and use her to find the vamp who turned her. Then he’ll kill them both.”
“But the vamp who turned her is dead,” Steve said, and Jonathan nodded. “We killed him in 1983.”
“Dad doesnt know that, though,” Mike said. “And Nancy’s smart enough to know that. She wouldn’t have told him he’s dead because…”
“Because she knows its the only reason he’s keeping her alive,” Robin finished, horror dawning on her face. “And the best way to lure out a fledgling’s turner….”
Oh god.
“We need to find her,” Steve said, almost frantic. “We need to find her now.”
Tumblr media
All of the typical Wheeler, and even hunter, prisons and hide spots were empty, none of them had even seen Ted for days, since the full moon.
“He probably went on some long-term gig, or’s taking a break,” one of the older hunters said. “Serves ‘im right, he’s been doing tons this past year.”
They were back at Steve’s house, with the same leads they had when they started: none.
“This makes no sense,” Jonathan was saying. “Where could he have a big enough space to hide her? And somewhere no one knows about?”
Robin was glaring at the map, staring hard enough that it looked like she was trying to set it on fire. She’d gone with Mike to find the spot Nancy had been feeding, tracking the blood trails, but it just ended at the Wheeler house.
El had attempted to find her, going into a trance to try and find any trace, but Mike and Jonathan had pulled her out of it when she started screaming. The poor kid had been too rattled to say anything besides, "bad," before she left to calm down.
The look they had all shared once she was gone had only dulled the mood. Something bad enough to freak El out, especially after everything she'd seen, was worse than bad. It was terrible.
It was dead silent, which was unusual considering everyone was here, including Lucas and Max, all of them staring at the map.
Eddie was still going through old town blueprints to see if there were any hidden rooms or areas they could have put her in, Dustin hovering over his shoulder, but still nothing.
“I got it!”
Everyone faced the source of the sound, and saw Will holding up a book.
“Town electrical records,” he said, pointing to a page on the document. “Right here, the Wheelers paid for an electrician to rewire parts of their house, and to set up power in a boiler room that hadn’t been used in years.”
Robin glanced over the page, taking note of the dimensions. Big enough for more than seven people, and totally hidden unless you knew where to look.
“That’s it. That’s where she is.”
Tumblr media
Mike and El had gone in together, Mike because he knew his way around the house, El for protection. Robin and Eddie had both been ordered to stay hidden in the woods, in case any of the stuff in the boiler room could alert Ted that they were there.
“They should be back by now,” Steve said, tapping the radio on the car door. “I’m calling them.”
“Don’t.” Eddie took the radio. “They get caught, we’re all fucked. Nancy especially.”
Robin growled, ignoring their stares as she watched the door. Nancy was in there, and based on El’s visions, she was hurting badly. And she was stuck out here, hiding from Ted fucking Wheeler of all people.
“Steve, are you there?”
The radio crackled to life, and they all crowded it instantly.
“Mike, did you find her?”
“No, we found the door though,” he said. “But we can’t get past it. Something in the metal is messing with El’s powers.”
“Maybe an electromagnetic field?” Will said. “I always notice mine go wonky when I’m too close to one.”
“Could be, but regardless, we need someone to either pick the lock or break the door down,” he said.
“Fuck with a side of fuck,” Eddie said. “We try that, Ted’s going down guns ablaze.”
“Mike, get out of there for now,” Steve said. “Hurry back.”
He slid the antenna down, tossing the radio in the back of the car.
“Fuck,” he said. Robin agreed with the sentiment.
Tumblr media
Metal hinges creaked somewhere in the distance, but still close enough for her ears to catch.
She heard footsteps, coming closer and closer, then stopping outside the door.
The metal screeched as it opened, and Nancy flinched back from the noise, a pained hiss coming from her throat when the shackles dug into her bloody wrists.
“Ready to tell me what turned you?”
Ted had a revolver filled with blessed bullets, little silver things that were carved with symbols that could knock most non-humans out. In his other hand was a bottle and rag, the smell coming from it making her stomach twist.
She glared up at him, eyes squinted from the light, and Ted sighed.
“I don’t see why you don’t just make this easier on yourself,” he said. “All this?” He pointed around the room, at the silver shackles and UV bulbs that were so powerful they burned her skin. “Stops with one simple answer.”
“Fuck you,” Nancy spat, fangs shooting out as she snarled at her father.
Ted shook his head, then shut the door behind him. The lock clicked into place, and he put on sunglasses before flicking one of the light switches.
Another UV lamp turned on, this one aimed right at her face.
Most sunlight couldn’t hurt vampires, or at least fledglings, without long exposure times. They burned easier than most humans, which is where part of the rumor came from.
But the common reason most people thought vampires were nightwalkers? The torture methods modern hunters had used on them.
Namely, powerful, drawn-out exposure, either through magnifying glasses to concentrate the sun’s rays, or the modern equivalent: UV lamps with enough wattage to power a small solar panel.
She flinched back, hissing in pain as the light washed over her already burned skin. The other lamps had been on 24/7, not turned off for even a moment of the day or night to keep her weak enough that she couldn’t hope to escape, had burned almost every inch of skin that wasn’t covered by her ratty shirt or pants.
She could smell it the instant he uncorked the bottle, the fumes acrid enough to burn her nose as she breathed them in, and she twisted in the chains, trying to get as far from him as she could.
The bottle was filled with concentrated blackthorn berry oil, something she had learned very early on was the easiest method to deter non-humans. The oil’s properties weren’t sought after because they killed, no, these were never used by hunters who just staked the vamps they hunted.
Ted poured a small amount into a bucket, then filled it with water, dipping several cloths into it, and one small bottle.
He took one of the dripping towels and stood up, getting closer to Nancy as he did.
Blackthorn oil was used solely by hunters who wanted to torture information out of their captives. Hunters who knew how to do it well.
And Nancy knew her dad was one of those hunters, he’d taught them since they were kids how to make non-humans answer their questions.
The soaked rag was wrapped around her arm, and she bit her tongue to keep herself silent.
Her silence only lasted until the third rag.
When he draped that one across her shoulders, she twisted in the chains, and screamed.

“So here’s the plan.”
Weapons and fake teeth and mini fireworks were dropped onto the hood of Steve’s car, the product of an entire day spent gathering supplies.
“Mini Wheeler runs home, tells Ted he thinks he saw a vamp, gets him out of the house,” he said, and Mike nodded. “Then when Ted is gone, Robin and I sneak into the house, she breaks down that door, and gets Nancy out.”
“Meantime, me and the rats will lure Ted to Skull Rock,” Eddie said. “Where El and Will are going to trap him, and wipe his memory of this entire week. Make him forget Nancy’s a vampire and everything else he might’ve learned.”
“Then while that’s happening, Jonathan and Max find his study, get rid of any notes or reports he made about Nancy being a vampire,” Steve said. “And I make sure Karen and Holly don’t know anything about this, and if they do, they won’t tell Ted.”
The plan had been cobbled together in a few hours, most of the planning done through the radios while everyone ran around trying to find supplies and get into their spots. But it was solid, considering how little prep time they’d had.
“Mike, give Eddie and the others ten minutes to get ready,” Steve said, and the forest crew waved as they headed into the woods. Mike tossed his radio to Robin, who hooked it to her belt, before he went to his house. Once he was in, Jonathan, Max, Steve and Robin all snuck around to the back wall of the house, opposite to the back door Ted and Mike would run out of, but still close enough to see when they left.
They waited, utterly silent, for Mike to lure Ted out. Robin could feel her heart hammering in her chest, the adrenaline building the longer they were standing there.
“Robin, it’s going to be ok,” Steve said, hand going to her shoulder. She snarled at him, and he jerked back.
Her eyes flashed gold, incisors growing as she glared at him.
“Don’t do that, Steve,” she said, staring at the wall. “You know what Ted’s like, she’s told us what he’s done.”
“She’s still his kid,” he said. “Other monsters, sure, but Nancy? I don’t think he can just ignore all of his memories of her because of some fangs.”
Her eyes narrowed in on the Reagan sign, proudly displayed in the front yard, and she huffed.
“Don’t be so sure,” she said, and before Steve could respond, the door swung open, Ted and Mike running into the woods with guns and harpoons jury-rigged to shoot wooden spears.
The radio crackled, and Steve said, “Eddie, you’ve got Wheeler one and two incoming.”
“Copy that, pretty boy,” Eddie said. “Go get our girl.”
Robin was already moving, at the door before it could slam shut, ushering the other three in before locking it behind them.
Jonathan and Max headed right for Ted’s office, and Steve took Robin’s wrist before she could leave.
“Be careful,” he said, staring right at her. “You have to be ready for anything.”
Robin nodded, and he left to go find Mrs. Wheeler and Holly.
She could smell the silver and trace amounts of wolfsbane and tree sap, following it to the door under the stairs.
It had a lock on it, but El had broken the mechanism yesterday to make this easier. She pushed the door open, closing it behind her as she headed down into the stairwell.
The lights were off, but she didn’t need them to see the stairs in front of her, or the doorway at the bottom.
Along the wall, there were guns and blowdart tubes, each one carved with blessed symbols, no doubt the bullets were the same. Designed and built to kill or capture non-humans.
The door ahead must have been the one El was talking about, it looked like a completely ordinary metal door with no window, but the hair on her arms prickled when she got closer, and she could hear the faint thrumming of electricity coming from it.
So the door was electrified, that was great.
Her radio crackled, and she picked it up, hearing Dustin shouting something.
“Almost at Skull Rock! How’s things for you guys?”
“There’s nothing about Nancy in his office,” Max said. “Only a few notes about blackthorn oil and an order for white oak planks.”
“Karen thinks Nancy went on a camping trip with some friends,” Steve said. “Ted hasn’t told her anything.”
“I’m at the door,” Robin said, then slammed a shoulder against the solid metal.
The metal crumpled under her blow, the wires connected to it sparking as they were ripped away. The door was partially open, Robin could see a room and three other doors inside, as well as cabinets and boxes that smelled vile.
She wrenched the door open all the way, storming into the room, looking around to find Nancy.
One of the doors, the one at the end, had a thin strip of light peeking through the bottom.
She smelled something burning, and blackthorn berries, inside.
This door was solid steel, covered with a layer of silver, she figured out when a single touch burned her hand. But it wasn’t unbreakable, and the handle was a cheap wooden knob.
She crushed the handle, knocking the door back with a foot, and had to cover her eyes because of how bright it was.
Why the hell is it so….
The answer to her question came when her eyes adjusted well enough to see what every light was aimed at. Her heart dropped to the floor.
Nancy was chained to the walls, manacles digging into her wrists, throat, and ankles, blood streaking the metal. Her skin was blistered and burning from the lamps (solar lamps, Robin realized with horror) and the skin not burning was covered with rags soaked in blackthorn oil.
She wasn’t moving. It didn’t even look like she was breathing.
“Oh my god,” she said, and saw the light switches on the wall, turning the lamps off as fast as she could. The rags went next, Robin tearing a piece of her shirt off to pull them off Nancy’s skin.
Underneath where the rags were, her skin was black and rotting, her veins dark from where the poison had spread through her system.
The chains were solid silver, anchored deep enough in the walls that she couldn’t pull them out before they started burning through her skin, and the manacles were held shut by screws and bolts, no lock she could pick.
“Guys, Ted is at Skull Rock,” Eddie said. “Mike just knocked him out, Will and El are doing their thing.”
“Yeah, Karen is looking for the source of the crash, Robin, was that you?”
Robin ignored their voices while she went looking for something to use to get Nancy down, finding a small screwdriver and pliers.
She got Nancy’s ankles free first, then her neck, barely able to hold back a snarl when she saw how torn and bloody the skin underneath it was. When she freed Nancy’s wrists, she had to drop her tools in time to be able to catch the vampire.
Robin was gentle as she lowered Nancy to the ground, settling the shorter girl’s head on her lap.
“Nance, hey,” she said, tapping her cheek. “Nancy, wake up.”
Nothing.
“Robin, we need to know your progress!” Steve said. “Did you find Nancy? Jon and Max are out by the car with me, we need to go.”
“I found her,” she said, her voice cracking towards the end. “I found her, Steve, she’s in bad shape, I don’t know if she’s alive.”
Muffled curses came from the other side of the radio, and she shook Nancy again, a little rougher this time.
“Nance, come on, wake up,” she said, brushing a few strands of knotted hair off her face. “C’mon, you have to let me know you’re ok, please.”
There.
It was barely noticeable, wouldn’t have been to a normal human, but she saw Nancy’s lips move.
“Oh thank god,” Robin practically sobbed, holding the other girl close to her chest, feeling the moment she started to wake up. “Nancy, thank god, oh my god.”
“Robin?” Her voice was utterly mangled, and it was more of a gurgle than actual words, but she heard it.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Robin said, relaxing her grip enough to smile down at the vampire. “Hey, you’re safe now, I’ve got you, I’m getting you out of here.”
Nancy’s eyes cracked open, finding Robin’s as they did, and the faintest smile formed on her lips.
“Knew you would,” she whispered.
“Robin, we have to go!”
Oh shit, Steve.
“Hold on, Nance, this is going to hurt a bit,” Robin said, and lifted Nancy bridal style, ignoring the way her gasp of pain made her heart ache, and shut the door to the cell, making her way up the stairs to the main house.
She got to the entryway of the house when she heard footsteps. And then a gun being racked.
“Turn around slowly,” Karen’s voice said, and Robin froze. “Or I will blow your head off.”
Robin clenched her jaw, forcing her eyes back to normal, and she turned, seeing Karen staring at them, shotgun pointed right at her head.
Karen’s face dropped when she saw Robin, and then looked horrified when she saw who was in the girl’s arms.
“Oh my god, Nancy, what did you do to her?” She demanded, moving closer to Robin and keeping the gun up.
“Ask your worthless excuse of a husband,” Robin snarled. She really shouldn’t have been acting like this, not with a severly injured Nancy in her arms, not when she knew that shotgun had silver mixed into it, but fuck, Nancy’s own goddamned family had done this to her, and Robin was done.
Karen faltered at that, and Robin saw when she took a closer look at her daughter. Those injuries only came from one place, and only happened to one kind of creature.
“She’s a vampire?” Karen whispered, staring at the both of them. The gun was still aimed at her, but it was wavering in the air. “Te-Ted did this?”
Robin just glared, keeping her arms wrapped protectively around Nancy, until the gun dropped. She blinked, shocked, and Karen waved.
“Get her out of here,” she said, tears welling in her eyes. “Do whatever you have to do, just please, keep her safe.”
Robin’s glare softened, and she nodded once before she was out the door, running to Steve’s car.
“Robin, what- Oh my fucking god!”
Steve’s question was cut short by himself when he saw Nancy. The doors were already opened, and Robin got in the back, Nancy’s now unconscious body leaning against her.
Max and Jonathan were already gone, headed to Skull Rock to help with Ted, and Robin shut the door.
“Go, Steve,” she said, cradling Nancy’s head in her lap. “Now!”
Tumblr media
They were at the Byers’ house, Joyce had been filled in by Will on their situation, and Nancy was asleep in the guest room, being looked after by Lucas and Max.
Steve was cleaning out the bucket they had used to wet the rags they had to use to get any remaining blackthorn oil off of Nancy’s skin. Jonathan was talking with his mom on the front porch, Will and El still hovering over Ted’s unconscious body to wipe his memories.
Robin was pacing around outside, Eddie watching her with sad eyes.
Only humans had been allowed in to help Nancy, the oil and whatever else Ted had used on her so potent it was physically painful for Robin and the other non-humans to be in there.
“You know, pacing a hole into the ground won’t help anyone,” Eddie said, and she snarled at him, full on snarled, shocking even herself.
Eddie didn’t look too phased, he just got to his feet and dragged Robin to the porch, sitting her down on one of the steps.
“I’m worried about her too, Robin,” he said. “But you’re working yourself into a frenzy, and no one’s going to be helped by that. Especially not you.”
He was right, as loath as she was to admit it. She could feel the moon now, even during day, even when it was barely half-full, hyperaware because of how worried she’d been. And her teeth were sharper than normal, ears a bit more pointed. She’d noticed when she went into the bathroom earlier, her wolfish features coming out with her stress.
“You didn’t see what he was doing to her,” Robin said, voice almost hollow. “I don’t know how anyone can be so cruel, and to his own daughter, I just….”
She had no idea where she was going with that thought, Robin had seen firsthand how badly humans treated those they saw as other. It was bad enough when you were just queer, or a woman, or not normal, and that was just regular human varieties. Non-humans, no matter how harmless, were always treated like monsters, like predators.
Robin had seen how the world treated queer people, the bullying she suffered even before anyone knew she was gay had been awful. She also knew non-humans had it worse, had a couple of years of experience to back that up.
“You never thought anyone could do something like that to Nance,” Eddie said. “Me either, especially someone who knows her. Not one person could look at her and think she’s evil.”
“Ted did,” she said, voice bitter. “Her own goddamned father had her chained to the walls like she was some animal.”
Eddie put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently. Neither of them said anything, just staring off at the trees.
Their little moment of peace was interrupted by Lucas running out, almost tripping over the doorstop, and saying, “She’s awake.”
Robin was up in seconds, following the teen towards the backroom Nancy was in. She could still smell trace amounts of blackthorn oil, but nowhere near enough to bother her.
The door was cracked open, and she saw Max sitting next to the bed, holding out a small cup of water.
“Take it easy,” the redhead was saying, and then Robin opened the door fully.
Nancy looked like shit, to put it nicely. Her arms were covered in bandages, ones soaked with aloe gel to help soothe the burns, and her face was bruised and gaunt, blisters all over the skin. Her neck only had a small bandage over the worst of the burns, but the rest of her skin was uncovered, blisters and ripped skin wherever the collar had been.
Robin stared at her for a few seconds, just so fucking relieved that she was awake, she was going to be ok.
When Nancy was done sipping the water, she saw Robin. Her face lit up, and she waved for Robin to come closer.
Robin’s body moved on its own, and she knelt next to her, taking the offered hand. Both of her wrists were padded with thick bandages, and Robin brushed her thumb over the back of her hand.
“Hey, Nance,” she said, smiling up at the other girl. “I’m glad you’re awake.”
“Me too,” she said, and Robin winced at her voice. It was better than it had been a few hours ago, but still hoarse and quiet. “Thank you for saving me.”
Robin noticed Max leaving, silently thanking the younger girl.
“Of course,” Robin said, moving to sit next to Nancy on the bed. “I would never leave you somewhere like that, not ever.”
Nancy’s smile faded, shoulders bowing inward. Robin mentally cursed, she hadn’t meant to make her upset.
“Hey, hey, it’s ok, Nance,” she said, placing a hand on Nancy’s thigh. “You’re safe now, I’m here, you’re safe.”
Tears started falling down her cheeks, and Robin pulled her into a hug. Nancy melted into her embrace, hands digging into her shirt, burying her face in Robin’s shoulder. Her body shook violently as she cried, and Robin held on tight, whispering sweet nothings into her ears, brushing through her hair with her fingers.
The sound of a closing door made her look up, and she saw the bedroom door had been closed, probably by Max or Lucas.
Nancy stayed hidden in her shirt for nearly ten minutes, shoulders still shaking from her sobs, but she pulled back enough to stare at Robin. She leaned in to press a kiss to Robin’s lips, so gently it made her heart flutter. Robin kissed back, cupping her face with her hands as she did.
When they broke apart, Nancy rested her forehead on Robin’s, fingers playing with the hem of her shirt.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “Thank you for coming for me, Robin.”
Robin smiled, thumb brushing over her cheekbone.
“Of course, Nancy,” she said. “I will always come for you.”

[ hailee steinfeld | she/her ] Another face is seeking safety in New Orleans. Make sure to welcome GEMMA MIKAELSON to the home of the resilient. Rumor has it that they are an 18/22 year old VAMPIRE/WEREWOLF, who is one of the SACRIFICED but we’ll keep that a secret. They are said to be ARGUMENTATIVE, but that’s all a façade to cover up their MAGNANIMOUS nature. We’ve heard that they can be found listening to INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS by NATALIE JANE, which sums them up pretty well. Let’s hope that they can find a way to survive this harsh new world.

All the Mikaelsons are extended family. You know the ones.
tw: kidnapping, arson, death, torture
HISTORY:
Gemma’s parents had her at a very young age and tried their best to care for the young wolf, but ultimately fell short. For the majority of her young life, Gemma was left to fend for herself as her parents were working non-stop just to be able to keep a roof over their head. With Gemma being left to her own devices, she often got herself into trouble, especially when her rage got the better of her. One day when the young untriggered wolf was wandering around the city, a figure came up from behind her and grabbed her, covering her mouth so she couldn’t scream and she was never taught to defend herself; so her attempts were futile.
The longer Gemma spent in the house of her kidnappers, the more she came to terms that this was where she was going to die. She would never have a real family, never fall in love, never have anything that a person should have. More and more children were brought into the house, some as young as toddlers, and Gemma knew she had to do something. She didn't want to die. She still had a whole life she wanted to live. She was too small to fight back so there was only one idea left.
While the guards were distracted, Gemma started a small fire that quickly spread before her captors were able to get it under control. It was then that the older kids that had been taken enacted the plan that they had curated over the previous days to get all the kids out. During their escapte, Gemma had been grabbed by one of the captors and she managed to remove herself from their grasp and push them into the fire. So not only was it the night that she was saved and her life could truly begin, but it was the night that she triggered her wolf gene.
Hearing of the lot of supernatural children that were taken, the Salvatore School stepped in and took in the ones that didn't have their parents collect them to keep them safe and learn more of their supernatural nature. There, Gemma met Nathan Kenner and the two would become inseparable, arguing like brother and sister, but would defend the other to the death if need be. Since Gemma's parents clearly weren't coming back for her, Gemma began going home with Nate on school breaks for some semblance of "family time". It was during breaks in New Orleans that Gemma met and formed a connection with Freya and Keelin. Over the years, their connection only grew and eventually the pair adopted Gemma and she finally felt as if she belonged with people.
On the night of her 18th birthday, Gemma just wanted one night to run around in her wolf form instead of getting locked up for the night. She had spent her whole life feeling trapped and she just wanted one night of freedom. Little did she know that there was a crowd of hunters roaming the woods, waiting for any opportunity to attack on the full moon. Luckily, she had asked Nathan to cover for her. Though he wasn’t able to prevent the attack, he was able to save her and fight off the hunters. Unknown to Gemma, Nathan had stolen a vial of vampire blood from the school and fed it to the wolf, hoping that it would heal her as he brought her back to the school. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries in their travels, waking up in transition as a hybrid, the blood given to her being Hope Mikaelson’s.
Gemma went to college with Nathan, unwilling to leave his side. When she came home on a break, she was ambushed by a group of witches and tortured, wanting to have some fun with her before she was sacrificed and sent to the prison world. Right before she was sent, she learned of the reason. The witches wanted to get back at Freya for not following them and the best way to do that was to attack her family, starting with her children.

got tagged by @doomednarrative to talk about five things you’ll find in my fanfiction!!! thanks leon 😄💙
paranormal/supernatural elements— ever since i was a teenager, i’ve always been fascinated by urban fantasy settings, or by the idea of monsters and other supernatural/mythological creatures coexisting in a mundane “real world” setting like our own. it’s just so fun to think about the logistics of a world like that, as well as the extra dimension that creaturehood can give characters!! if it’s not a 200k+ ghost love story, then it’s a silly little vampire or werewolf (or both) au.
trans protag and/or love interest— i’m trans and the world has enough cis gay love stories. not all of my fics feature openly/aware trans protags (in sleeping with ghosts, for example, lawrence has more pressing things to think about than his gender issues), and sometimes my protags ARE just straight up cis. but when the protag IS cis, their love interest is almost certainly trans. t4t relationships are SO beautiful and wonderful and underrepresented, but i also feel like it’s important to show that there ARE cis people out there who are capable of loving, understanding, and supporting us!!
mundane worldbuilding/backstory— i’ve always loved filling in the gaps that are left in a narrative, and while that can include plot elements or character relationships, it also oftentimes includes mundane aspects of the characters’ world, life, and backstories. what does the protag’s house look like? how is their city laid out? what color is their bedroom? do they have friends at work? thinking about and answering questions like that is SOOOOO so fun and enriching and rewarding for me! i feel like it adds to my understanding of the characters and how they see the world, and it also helps (i think and hope) readers to feel more grounded and invested in the characters and the setting. it makes the whole story feel more real and lived-in!!
characterizing narration— i’ve always tried to do this, but it’s something i think i’ve gotten much better and more deliberate about within the past few years. when i write from a specific character’s pov, I try to make sure the narration of the story itself sounds like that character’s pov. using some of my saw fics as an example: sleeping with ghosts is written in third person past tense to reflect lawrence’s careful, methodical thought patterns. when lawrence is frightened or otherwise upset, the narration starts to break down— phrases are shorter— words are repeated more, because his fears and anxieties start to loop on themselves and drown out his logical thinking— he starts to question himself— is any of this right? meanwhile, in other fics i’ve written from adam’s pov, the narration is in present tense, because adam has more restless energy and is perpetually trying to “keep up” and learn more information to try and stay one step ahead of things. his narration is more informal and takes a more casual, conversational tone than lawrence’s does; adam’s not some insecure prick from oxford! he doesn’t need to use five dollar words to make himself feel good.
unhappy/unresolved/absentee parental relationships— this isn’t something that i consciously set out to do, but it IS a pattern that i’ve noticed coming up on my writing again and again (don’t worry about it). in my writing, it’s very rare for the protag’s parents to be around in their lives; it could be that the protag is geographically or otherwise removed from their parents, but usually, it’s either that they don’t talk to their parents due to conflict or an unhappy childhood, or (more often) the protag’s parents are dead. sometimes it’s a mixture of the above! i have a… difficult relationship with my own parents, and we’ve never been very close, so i think that’s reflected in my writing.
i’m gonna tag @allegedly-writer @iinsawdious @msbadatnamingthings @onehandkilling @silenthillmutual (if y’all want to participate) and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it!!

AND THEN WE’VE GOT THESE THREE MOOKS...
In 1966 superhero mania was taking over everywhere, especially in comics.  Dell Comics, which had largely avoided superheroes up until then, was caught up in the mania as well.  The one-time world’s largest comic book publisher (their output dwarfed anything coming out of National/DC, Timely/Atlas, or any of the other big companies) decided to try their hand the superhero game.
Unfortunately, three of the superheroes they produced were pretty darn awful, and this is from an era FULL of new, awful superheroes (Archie Comics’ superhero version of The Shadow, Fatman the Human Flying Saucer, the Captain Marvel whose various body parts fly off to fight crime - just to name a few).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, the lazy bums at Dell decided that, since the Universal Monsters were perennially popular with kids, they’d be even more popular as superheroes!
Man, were they ever wrong!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dracula, Frankenstein and Werewolf (Dell couldn’t use the name “Wolfman” because it was trademarked by Universal Studios, whereas “Dracula” and “Frankenstein” are in the public domain) were launched in late 1966, and ran for three issues each.
The Dracula and Frankenstein books began with #2, as their first issues had been published a year or so earlier as (very loose) adaptations of the Universal films.  Werewolf was the only one of the three that got a real first issue.
Tumblr media
Dracula was an unnamed descendant of the original bloodsucker.  He lived in Transylvania and worked as a medical researcher in an effort to rehabilitate the family name.  By ingesting a bat blood serum of his own invention he gained “vampire-like” abilities: he has a “built-in radar to see in the dark,” and could transform into a bat.  He trained his body to the peak of perfection, designed himself a costume (complete with a mask that only covered his nose!), and moved to America to fight crime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once in America, he adapts the secret identity of Al U. Card (get it?), which he tells people stands for Aloyisius Ulysses Card.  He also gains a girlfriend in debutante heiress B.B. Beebee, who in issue #4 (or #8 in the reprints) gains the same powers and becomes his sidekick, Fleeta.  She wears a costume similar to Dracula’s, but wears a mask that absolutely does not conceal her identity!
Tumblr media
Fleeta also just happens to have an abandoned underground government radar facility on her family’s estate, which the pair can use as their base of operations.  But hey, too late!  The comic is cancelled.
Tumblr media
Frankenstein related the adventures of an artificial man created in 1866 by “the Doctor.”  The doc’s creation has superior intelligence and the strength of fifty men.  He remained dormant in an abandoned castle somewhere in America for a whole century until a lucky strike by a lightning bolt revived him.  However, that long nap has left him with hair that’s gone white and a face that’s gone green.  He hides his features with a life-like rubber mask, adapts the name “Frank Stone” (after a rock with “Frank” written on it falls near him), and embarks on a mission to fight crime wearing a red leotard.
Tumblr media
Disguised as Frank Stone and making his way to the nearest metropolis, he just happens to come upon a wealthy old man who knew “the doctor.”  The old man is dead within a few panels, but not before bequeathing his vast riches and butler upon Frank Stone.
Tumblr media
Henry, like all good butlers, stumbles upon Frank’s secret identity.  He then becomes Frankenstein’s assistant in the unending fight against crime, although for them the fight ended with issue #4.
Tumblr media
Whereas, Dracula and Frankenstein had at least some similarities with their monstrous namesakes, Werewolf had absolutely none.  Instead of being a lycanthrope, he is instead a secret agent outfitted with one of the most implausible costumes that gives him near-superhuman abilities.
Tumblr media
And don’t forget that his face has been programmed via hypnosis so that he can change his features into “over thirty seven different people!”
Tumblr media
This was Dell trying to strike gold by combining the super-popular spy fad (spies were EVERYWHERE in the 1960s, thanks to James Bond), monsters, and superheroes.
Unfortunately for Dell the deadly combination of sub-par writing and art on these titles guaranteed that almost no one was buying them (a common refrain from kids at the time was “I can make a better comic than this!”).  Add to that the fact that the superhero boom had become a bust, and it spelled the death knell to the “monster heroes.”
In 1972, when the horror trend started to take off in comics, Dell brought
Dracula
back.  The original three issues (#2,3,4) were reprinted as issues #6,7 and 8; no one knows why there was no #5.  However, the comic was even less successful the second time.  Thankfully, neither Frankenstein or Werewolf were given a second chance.

i don’t speak for marvel as i don’t care for marvel but something that’s sincerely disconcerting to me about the constant dismissal of 90s dc comics as being “edgy” and nothing more from professionals within the medium and fans alike is that the countless complaints sound like a genuine refusal to engage with the material at best and an echo chamber at worst. the fact of the matter is that the majority of dc’s 90s output leaned visibly towards the sentiments of indie & underground comix and can be easily categorized as alternative at least in some manner.
in fact, a not negligible number of the protagonists of the post-zero hour titles were noticeably punk, grunge, goth or otherwise moving away from the squeaky clean images of their silver age predecessors not just in aesthetics but also in the values of the subcultures they represented. the “edgy” label on a whole lot of books hides the very clear anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist principles embedded in their text.
for example, take some of the titles most commonly dismissed as embodying everything a certain subset of comic readers seemingly hates: fate 1994/the book of fate 1997 and manhunter 1994. in both instances (and here, i’m counting fate & book as one thing since the latter is a soft reboot of the former), these books have been cited as not worthy of carrying on the legacy of their respective mantles.
yet, fate & the book of fate feature a working class protagonist living in abject poverty who’s turned to small-time crime when no other opportunity had come up for a person like him; even once jared stevens -- fate -- becomes the bearer of that iconic title, he’s resolutely distrusted by mainstream superheroes due to the way he looks and acts, arrested several times (with the implication that he’d already been intimately familiar with the process), and finds himself a wanted man despite saving the world because the justice league refuses to speak up on his behalf. the book of fate, especially, serves as a subtle commentary on social class dynamics and how despite effectively fulfilling a ‘chosen one’ role, jared would never be welcome into the superhero community at large solely because he’s unable to carry himself the “right” way (the straight, upper middle-class, sanitized way).
similarly, companion piece scare tactics 1996 has jared stevens and his best friend arnold burnsteel -- a hacker with explicitly radically left politics who’s hacked into government databases a number of times -- free several teenage ‘monsters’ (a werewolf, vampires, etc), two of whom are lgbt, from a government facility. arnold and the kids spend the rest of the series on the run. fantastical premise or not, you’d be hard-pressed to find a modern comic book published by one of the big two that has the fbi & the cia as its villains.
beyond that, we’ve got the aforementioned manhunter 1994 and the commentary on an exploitative music industry contained within. chase lawler, down-on-his-luck session guitarist, practically sells his soul to save his girlfriend and brother from a downward spiral of drugs and greedy management and a media circus that had destroyed them. within the text, the blame is squarely placed on capitalism and abusive aspects of the media industry still widely talked about and criticized today.
and these are just the most reviled titles in dc’s 90s catalogue. if one cared to read through the rest of it, it’d hard not to notice these themes cropping up again and again: the hacker files 1992 follows an anarchist collective hacking into the pentagon and canonically equates the justice league to a us military task force, green arrow 1988 #102-103 (which came out in 1995) has connor hawke going up against an obvious disney expy looking to build an amusement park on the grounds of the ashram he’d grown up in, the creeper 1997 explores psych wards as an inherently violent form of incarceration, etc etc.
this is getting long enough but it’s all to say, if your sole opinion on 90s dc is that it’s some gritty edgy nonsense with no merit then you’re a cop :/

The Shaw Pack Hangout
A few members of the Shaw Pack sat at a table in the town pub, sipping on drinks as they awaited the final member to join them. It was a push from David’s mate to make them go out after the hell that was the Inversion, something to rebuild their bond. Not that many of them minded it, it could be a good thing. The bell on the door of the pub jangled as the final member of the Pack walked in.
Asher grinned and waved to get the punk-looking wolf’s attention. “Hey, Artie! over here!”
Artemis Farrow, also known to the pack as Tank, looked in their direction, their chill smile widening as they walked over to the table. Artemis shrugged off their leather jacket and draped it over their chair. This action was recognized by the gathered members of the pack and caused the pack to ‘ooo’ and whistle. Artemis wore their jacket nearly all the time when out and about. It was their security blanket. And they only shed that jacket when they planned on relaxing and had no plans to get into a fight or break anything.
David smirked and sipped on his beer. “Not looking to smash a table, Trouble?”
Artemis shook their head as they leaned back in their chair, ordering a whiskey from a passing waitress. “Nah, don’t really feel like smashing anything. I just want to hang out with the pack. You, know, like old times.”
Asher and Milo looked at each other, eyebrows raised before returning their attention to Artemis.
“So, uh... how are things with Sam, Tank?” Asher asked after the waitress brought the Old Fashioned Whiskey to Artemis, who tipped her with a ten.
Artemis’ smile became wistful as they sipped their drink. “Peachy-Keen.”
Milo’s smirked, his fingers steepling like a cartoon villain. “You fucked, didn’t you?”
Artemis smirked. “Damn skippy.”
“I thought you two were waiting before your relationship got more intimate?” David asked them, his dark eyes slightly curious.
Artemis nodded as they straightened under his watch, like a younger sibling under the eyes of their older brother. “Yeah, we were, but... after everything that happened at the games...” Their piercing green eyes drifted between David, Milo, and Asher, then down to their hands. “He didn’t see the point of waiting. So... we just, had at it.”
Asher’s hazel eyes lit up mischievously. “Please tell me you said-”
“’ I wanted to ride my cowboy’, you bet your flat Polish ass I did.”
The whole pack hooted with laughter at Artemis’ quip. They raised their glass in a toast and tipped it back.
Christian looked at them curiously, taking a swig of a classy scotch before asking something that was niggling in the back of his brain ever since he saw Ol’ Tank at the Solstice gathering with a blond-haired vampire at their side. “Did he bite you?”
Artemis arched a brow and tilted their head to their side, long, gray hair fell away and tugged their collar away from their neck to reveal it was clear of any punctures from vampire fangs. “No, he didn’t.” They returned the choker to its original position and straightened before their face turned contemplative. “In fact, we’ve never really talked about him biting me. It never really came up in conversation.”
Christian snorted. “Really? I thought that would be a given for a vampire.”
Artemis’ eyes narrowed dangerously? “Oh really, Christian?”
He nodded and took another drink. “Well, I mean, I figured that a leech would bite just for the primality of it-”
The werewolf’s sentence was cut short as Artemis lunged across the table and gripped the collar of his shirt. “You say that about my mate again and I will tear you apart!” they hissed between their teeth.
Milo and Asher jumped to their thief and gripped their arms to pull them back.
“Easy, Tank, easy,” Asher said softly to soothe them as they were pushed into their chair.
Artemis sighed and dropped their head on the table. “Sorry, Chris...” they muttered before lifting their head and resting it on their hands. “It’s just... Sam is really adamant about consent. Like, really adamant. The first time he ever healed me, he wouldn’t even touch me unless I give my express permission.”
Milo reached over to smack Christian in the back of the head, “Good going, Chris.”
Artemis sighed and rolled their eyes before leaning back in their chair. “Just forget it, boys. We came here to have fun and give our mates a break from our nonsense. Let’s drink, do some karaoke, and make our ancestors proud.”
There was a cheer as more drinks were ordered and money was exchanged on bets for which of the pack would propose first to their mates.

TS4: Werewolves
so I just got the werewolf pack for Sims 4 and am trying it out.  Had to come up with a character to play so I went with
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason Todd.
I don’t know, maybe after he got relifed he ran away to Werewolflandia instead of going back to Gotham.  Anyway, got him moved into a cute little house (the world only has three livable lots, think of it as another Glimmerbrook) and bought a punching bag and a telescope for him.  No, an actual human sized telescope.  Like we used to be able to get in Sims 3.  I’m pretty stoked about it actually.
So on the upside, the world has two social lots and one of them is a library that’s also a gym.  Needless to say, Jason was on the spot for it.  We also met the cute librarian and got our flirt on, so that was nice.
Tumblr media
She shouldn’t be allowed to dress herself but to be fair, none of the sims should.  We’ll mess with CAS later.
The other lot is a pretty sweet outdoor bar, which I’m interested to see how that works come winter.  The bar/truck thing is pretty cool though and the bartender is also a cutie.
Tumblr media
Yes, Jay also got his flirt on with her.  I’ve got Wonderful Whims installed and when he finds someone cute I just let him go for it.  What I like about the bartender is
Tumblr media
scars.
She’s got some really obvious scars on her face and arm and once you get her talking you’ll find out she was attacked by a werewolf but didn’t want to turn so she got the cure made and now offers it at her bar for anyone that needs it.  I really like characters with some backstory going on.
Anyway, there are two werewolf packs in the area apparently, one more straight-laced than the others and there’s some interesting backstory lore having to do with a Century War and Vampires vs. Magic Users vs. Werewolves (maybe).  I did like the bit about magic users learning magic originally from their canine familiars and there’s a relative of Lilith’s living there as well so that’s interesting world building.  I honestly spent most of my time though running around trying to get Jason bitten.  To which point, there’s a bunker/rabbithole (like the crypts in TS3 though I suspect its probably actually a gateway rabbithole and I just haven’t made the right choices yet) that you can explore.  The first time I went down I found a tuna casserole which I was pretty excited about since Jay can’t cook at this point but it was spoiled by the time we got home.  The second time we went in though it was a full moon which is apparently the trigger and we got attacked!!
Yay!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so apparently we’ve caught werebies.  First sign of that?
Foaming at the mouth.  Yum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His hat says ‘dead inside’ btw and I think he’d approve.
So that’s as far as we’ve gotten so far.  We could have, apparently, asked someone to bite us if we knew them well enough but that’s waaaay too non-traumatic for Jason so viscous attack it was.
Will our hero find the cure in time?
Will he go for the librarian or the bartender?
Will he ever get the foam stains out of his pillow?
Stay tuned, gentle viewer.  Same bat-time, same bat-channel!

Thoughts On A Sims 4 Occults Refresh
Because, as per the Chill Save update earlier, I have recently picked up The Sims 4: Werewolves after watching quite a few videos on it from the YouTube Simmers I follow (namely James Turner, who built all the lots for the pack and is rightfully proud of it, and Plumbella, who did an early-access LP of it), and seeing how much care and attention was lavished on the werewolves and their lore really makes me want some sort of refresh for most of the other occults in the game. And since Smiler only got a one-post update today, I figured I could take the time to make a post about what I’d like to see! It boils down to a few key points:
1. Give aliens and mermaids proper power/perk trees -- Yeah, of the occults we have in Sims 4, I think we can all agree that aliens and mermaids got the short end of the stick -- possibly because they’re both occults that came as part of an expansion instead of getting a dedicated game pack like the Big Three of vampires, spellcasters, and werewolves. (Probably doesn’t help that aliens were one of the first occults added to the game in Get To Work. . .) They both desperately need updates to keep them relevant and make them more fun to play without requiring the use of mods. And the best way to do that would be to give them a set of powers/perks you can buy for XP points, like said Big Three. Mermaids already work a bit like vampires thanks to their “Hydration” need powering their innate special songs and whatnot -- why not go whole hog? Have them earn things like the ability to find unique treasures in the deepest parts of the ocean! New songs that affect Sim moods in different ways, or maybe adjust skill-building speeds! Or maybe one to pull water from nearby sources to hydrate themselves if they get too low? Aliens could get their own version of controlling Sim minds (rather than just erasing memories -- oh, and THAT should be an unlockable power THEY CAN’T USE AUTONOMOUSLY -- yes, I AM still bitter about one of my Sims having their relationship with their alien fiance RANDOMLY ERASED BY SAID ALIEN FOR NO REASON) and maybe unlock some sort of special power that allows them to go to space without a rocket? Just -- something more interesting than the handful of powers that we’ve got for either!
(And for what it’s worth, I’d rather like to see the Needs panel UI for them, vampires, spellcasters, and werewolves be standardized, though I’m not sure how the orb would work for vampires and mermaids, who drain a need bar to fuel their powers rather than build up something that needs to be periodically lowered. Maybe have the orb be “upside-down” when compared to spellcasters and werewolves? Aliens could work either way -- drawing on some sort of special alien need to fuel their powers, or building up an alien charge that must be periodically vented, otherwise something weird and potentially dangerous happens.)
2. Give all the occults fun books we can read for lore, special bonuses, or just amusing fluff text -- The pop-ups you get for the werewolf books? They are the best. I love the lore that you can get from reading the history of Moonwood Mill (both the “standard” version and the special werewolf-writings version), I love how you can unlock a secret recipe for the new fish type if you’re lucky, and I even love when it’s just “fluff text” showing an excerpt of the book itself. And now that we have all that, I want more. I know Realm of Magic added a few non-tome books for Sims to read, but I don’t know if any of them have the fun pop-ups or any other special interactions, and I’m pretty certain that Vampires only added the vampire encyclopedias, which do have a couple of pop-ups but nothing along the lines of Werewolves and its books. And we need them! We especially need them now that we have an extremely-complicated history of how vampires and werewolves came to be! I want a secret vampire history of Forgotten Hollow! I want vampire romances! I want a book on blood types that can unlock the ability for vampires to sense who in a nearby area would give them a Divine Drink! I want the book on familiars to unlock new interactions for spellcasters to use with their familiars! (Well, actually, I just want to interact with familiars period -- let me hug and play with them -- but we could also have more interactions you unlock too.) I want the history of Glimmerbrook and the Magic Realm! I want a spellcaster children’s series like Peter Barker! Just -- I want the books to be so much more fun than they are right now! Give me the funny pop-ups to read, darn it!
3. Give us more cross-pack occult interactions, both nasty and friendly -- Werewolves gives us some really great stuff with how werewolves interact with vampires in particular, but -- well, to get the full experience, I think you gotta play as a werewolf. What if I want to do some of those interactions from the other side? And what about different occults interacting with each other? We need stuff like:
-->Vampires get a special angry moodlet from feeding on werewolf plasma -- they now need moodlets for feeding on spellcaster, mermaid, and alien plasma too. (I’m pretty sure this is only a thing in mods!)
-->Those interactions where werewolves can compare themselves favorably or unfavorably to vampires? They should also be available on the vampire side (I couldn’t find them when I had Smiler talk to a werewolf, anyway!). There should also be special interactions for spellcasters and vampires, where they compare themselves favorably or unfavorably, or talk about the origins of vampires.
-->Get mermaids and aliens in the act by giving them special interactions with other occults too -- talking about how mermaid and vampire powers work similarly, or aliens and werewolves sharing stories about the moon.
-->Have a friendly “sparring” version of the Supernatural Smackdown, for those occults who want to brawl without despising the other person afterward. Include mermaids transforming briefly to hit their opponents with their tail XD
-->All occults should be able to ask for sympathy for their occult type, and Sims should be able to feel sympathetic toward multiple occults and be their allies. (How else are you going to have your forbidden romances?)
Stuff like that! Just make the interactions between the various occults a bit more rich, and give them all a good mix of friendly and mean options so those of us who like to do occults getting along AND those who like to do out-and-out supernatural wars can have their cakes and eat them too. :p
4. No, I don’t know what to do about ghosts, Servos, and plantsims -- I’ve never played with any of those life states, so I don’t have enough ideas on how perk or power trees would work with them (particularly Servos, as they’re robots and thus a very unique type of Sim -- don’t they already have specific upgrade paths they can do for themselves?). Though I will say that ghosts should not have normal Sim needs -- I think their needs should be frozen in a way that makes sense for how they died instead (like a Sim who starved is always hungry, one who was eaten by the Mother Plant is always stinky from alien goo, one who drowned always has low energy, etc). I leave it up to you guys to think of good ways to fix them!
So yeah -- standardized UIs and power/perk trees for all; books with fun lore, fluff, and the occasional special bonus; and more options for each different occult type to interact with each other. Sounds good, right? Let me know what you think!

Tomb of Dracula VII
Tomb of Dracula #16
Tumblr media
Tomb of Dracula #16 written by Marv Wolfman and pencilled by Gene Colan and inked by Tom Palmer
Tumblr media
This felt like a standalone/monster-of-the-week issue like we see often in Werewolf By Night. We got a brief image of Quincy Harker talking on the phone but besides that there was no appearance from our heroes. Mr. Chen reports to Dr. Sun that he has the vampire under his full control. I will say it was nice to see no god-awful stereotyping with this characters in this issue like we’ve seen with them in past issues. Although there was some god-awful British accents in this issue that made some of the dialogue really fucking annoying to read. What I liked about the scene with Dr. Sun is after he finds out he has a vampire under his control, he offers Mr. Chen anything he wants and he says he wants his father freed from a Chinese prison where he’s been for twenty years. Then we get a panel of Sun’s men freeing his dad. I just liked it and I’m very curious to know what the hell is going on with these characters.
Tumblr media
Now getting to the monster-of-the-week. Duncan Corley now a monstrous murdering skeleton just wants his original resting place. Paul Beare had a plot in mind (Corley’s) when he died so he told his lawyer to switch the bodies and when he did that it awakened Corley. Grisly murders follow and a pretty cool fight with Dracula twice. I will say the motivation that Corley killed two grave robbers which Dracula was going to feed on was lame. But hey, Dracula has been known to hold a grudge so whatever. I missed the presence of Frank, Blade, Rachel and Taj here. This felt like a filler issue that really only pushed forward the Dr. Sun plot which we still have next to no info about. It was still a fun read and Gene Colan’s art is a sight to behold and he remains my favorite artist from the comics I’m reading in this era. I’m very close to the crossover with Werewolf which might be why there wasn’t much plot movement here since there’s about to be something with a character that won’t actually move plot forward just be a fun fight between characters next. Finally, we’re headed back to the swamps for my next post!

( vanessa morgan, 32, cis female, she/her, werewolf, gamma for syndico ) It’s been a while since we’ve seen PEYTON LEWIS. I hear they’re a WEREWOLF and they reside on the SOUTHSIDE. They’re known to frequent THE FULL MOON BAR (when they’re not busy being a DANCER AT LOLITA’S BACKROOM) and have made a place at LUNAR HEIGHTS RM 58. Some may say they act POSSESSIVE & SUBSERVIENT, while others claim they are RESPECTFUL & NURTURING. With that being said, they’ve found the State of Calamity.
Background:
- Peyton is a born werewolf, her parents had been in Syndico before they died. She grew up loving and respecting everything about being a wolf and part of the original pack, which she wore like a badge of honour. She looked forward to the day of her first change and even more so, the day she got her pack tattoo. She takes immense pride in being who she is, and respects the witches who help them more than anything.
- As soon as she had her first turn, Peyton was an unranked member of the pack. Her original plan had always been to be a Delta like her parents, but when she was 20, they were attacked and killed by vampires. Peyton was devastated, but the help of her pack got her through the hardest time in her life. After that, she realized what she wanted most was to be a Gamma so that she could be that support and guidance for new wolves.
- Peyton isn’t particularly ambitious, she wants to make her parents proud by the time she joins them in the next life, but she knows that just being happy is what they would most want. She respects the hierarchy completely and has no desire to cause any kind of chaos. She is much more the type of person so be calm in any situation and resolves issues. That is until an outsider hurts one of her pack, her family. Then the rage she keeps at bay comes out full force in order to protect and defend her own.
Possible Connections:
-Exes: Peyton has probably had a few relationships in the past but they probably didn’t last more than a couple years
- Family Friends: since she was born into the pack, others could have known her parents or their families could have been close for generations
- Regulars: people who often come to see her at work to watch her dance

I need you to talk to me about The Originals 1x04 (Don't hold back. Please and thank you😉)
Hmm. Hmm. Okay. Good episode. So far we’ve had Klaus and Hayley both decide that they want the baby. Rebekah has arrived and agreed to help find Elijah—as well as protect Hayley and the baby. Marcel, while having fallen prey to Klaus’s manipulations, has asked his willing witch prisoner Davina to find a way to kill the Originals, since she has one daggered in her attic.
The board is set. The pieces strategically aligned.
And Klaus decides to bring in a new player. Not truly new—Cami has already gotten involved with Marcel, and she’s even been compelled by Klaus. (such an honor!) She has some idea of how dangerous these people are—probably aware that they’re the mob. But now Klaus is ready to not only show her the board, but label all the pieces: vampire, witch, werewolf, hybrid.
Cami: okay, so he’s crazy.
(Nah, that would be my reaction.) Her immediate go-to upon being compelled is to ask about the science behind it. Meanwhile Klaus is like, idk! I’ve been doing this for a thousand years it just works, okay.
I also love how he stares dramatically at the painting they met over while he monologues—he literally went out and bought that from the artist after Cami randomly read him for filth in the square. The conversation affected him that deeply that he needed that painting, just so he could look at it from time to time in melancholy reflection.
She also reads him for filth in this first scene, giving him a basic diagnosis and recommendation for more therapy—while he is speaking melodramatically about plots against him, women trapped in situations, in need of saving, and how he’s really not evil, he’s just taking appropriate measures against tyranny!
I adore how Cami keeps her composure all the way through this megalomaniacal speech—only protesting when he brings up her boyfriend Marcel. Personal/professional boundaries, Klaus!
All in all, this opening scene gives us a great insight into how the klamille relationship plays out: Klaus makes some grand, sweeping statement or gesture about the state of things, Cami remarks on his…uh…less than stellar mental state, Klaus responds by doing something to *impress* or intimidate her, but she simply questions the mechanisms of it. Mind control is not a scientific term!
Meanwhile, back at the church attic: I put way too much time and effort into this please clap
Nah, Davina wants to keep Elijah, even though Marcel promised to return him to Klaus. (What? He’s handsome, I get it)
But then she immediately changes the subject and asks Marcel to go to a concert. She gets a little petty, throwing a witchy temper tantrum in the form of boiling Marcel’s blood to get him to agree (or she could be convincing him that she can defend herself if necessary, but I really get the vibe she’s just being a teenager. “It’s not a phase, Dad!” “Sometimes I think you forget what I’m capable of.”)
Davina’s dresses are…adorable in early season 1. They really wanted this innocent, virgin-Mary-esque image for her, and they got it. She truly does seem like a child, even though she’s meant to be 16—the same age as Elena and her friends when tvd started (although the actress was much closer to 16 than the tvd actresses, so it makes sense).
Marcel’s reaction is very interesting. He looks nervous and uncomfortable for a moment before grinning and giving in. (he says it’s a compromise, but he really does just give in. She’s such a daddy’s girl. 😁) Sometimes I miss the odd little moments of distrust and posturing between them. Yes, they care for each other, but they’re still sizing each other up. Looking for weaknesses. Assessing the worth of their alliance. This comes in handy later in the episode!
…and seeing how long this post is getting from just two scenes, I’m putting the rest under a cut. Spoilers!
When Klaus approaches Cami at Rousseau’s, she spouts off some exposition about compulsion—for the uninitiated, those who haven’t seen tvd and still need some reminders on how the world works. But we get this little gem about what Cami thinks of Klaus (paraphrased): “you leave, and I go back to thinking you’re just a hot guy with a cute accent and money to burn on his sprawling memoirs.” Okay Cami, I see you girl 😉 don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
This line also sticks out, when he is preparing to compel her to meet Marcel and Davina. “You’re going to force me to do this, aren’t you? Why even bother with politeness?”
Yeah yeah, his answer is some trite “I like you” but that’s him, isn’t it? He comes in with his smug smile and demure posture and the accent he thinks is suave and smooth and persuasive, thinking he can verbally strong-arm everyone into doing what he wants. But when that fails, he just falls back on mind control. Still a strong-arm, less pleasant. Sorry, Klaus, you can’t win on charisma alone!
Oh, Hayley’s subplot! I forget how there was always a witch just…hanging around the plantation house in the early episodes. She’s also reading What to Expect When You’re Expecting, a nice touch. She’s probably not paying much attention.
And Rebekah is looking on Google Maps for a church attic! Our little Nancy Drew Mikaelson. Klaus is skeptical of it, but she actually does find the church this way. The internet isn’t all bad!
She makes a side trip to the vampire’s nest, where we see her slightly hate-flirting with Diego—one of my favorite minor characters from season 1. O fun background characters, where have thou gone? Also, Claire is gorgeous 🥰
Aww, and we get a glimpse into who Davina used to be, before all this harvest nonsense happened to her! She was apparently a normal girl who went to school, had crushes. Practiced magic on the side. But her only true friends seem to be other witches—Monique and Cassie and…that’s it, I guess? Yeah, they don’t go too much into Davina’s inner life.
But I get the sense that the French Quarter coven is a little like religious fundamentalists here in the US. Strict upbringing, rules on who the kids can talk to/be influenced by. Sophie references this too later, that her traveling and becoming a chef at a bar was a big *rebellion* by their standards. They don’t go too much into it, but it just seems a little cult-y to me. Not to mention the whole…child sacrifice…thing we learn about later. (Hey I never said this show was perfect—it says a lot of things, but it doesn’t always know what it’s saying!)
Anyway, back to the little fiddler Tim. He’s adorable, and I really wish we’d gotten to know him even a little better. True, he was just a plot device—but he was a glimpse into Davina’s world, and we don’t get too much of that.
Marcel is oblivious to how weirdly accepting Cami is of all these red flags he’s leaving scattered about. “We all have our hot-headed moments,” she says, smiling sycophantically and shrugging nonchalantly. If I didn’t know the truth, I’d be yelling girl run.
But if Cami is oblivious to Marcel, she sees what Marcel misses—Davina’s crush on the cute curly-haired fiddler. (He looks like a Timothee Chalamet prototype, now that I think about it.)
Ooh, and this episode is where we meet the wonderful, enigmatic Father Kieran! I first saw Todd Stashwick in a fantastic, one-off episode of Supernatural where he plays, I kid you not, Dracula—who is obsessed with old monster movies. It’s campy and hilarious and I highly recommend it, even to non-spn fans! Anyway, the hey-it’s-that-guy actor gives a great performance here in this other campy, supernatural drama.
His quick thinking when Rebekah tries to compel him? Brilliant. How else would he have avoided attention? He’s a smart dude.
And we get his backstory—which is also tangentially Cami’s backstory—of the St. Anne’s massacre. Sean murdering people, and then himself, with a sickle.
“You’re standing on blood.”
“I’m not squeamish.”
A+ line for Rebekah, honestly. Written, delivery, just. *chef’s kiss* that’s her.
Elijah’s vision gives us what is technically our first present-day Relijah interaction in this show. Long overdue, imo.
I’ve already spoken about how TO simplifies the Rebekah/Elijah relationship to “siblings who care a lot about each other and don’t necessarily want to fight on any given day.” Which, honestly, I prefer to the sneering and posturing they did to each other on tvd.
They hug, because they’re happy to see each other! They’re happy the other is okay!
This plot point does bring up an interesting bit of lore that TO kind of neglects: in order to neutralize the Originals, the dagger must first be dipped in white oak ash. This is why Elijah can wake up after Davina pulls the dagger out—she didn’t re-dip it in white oak ash before re-stabbing him. But TO glosses over the why, and as far as I remember, never explicitly states the lore about ash again, even though we see originals get daggered many times over the course of the series.
But enough silly plot logic. This show is about family! And I’m okay with at least one sibling relationship being just…uncomplicated affection. One could even make a case that they’re the most themselves around each other. This is how they were as humans—kind, loving, lots of care for each other and those around them.
Hayley gets into some trouble in the bayou—our first real glimpse of her as a Tough Grrl who Fights For Herself. She is also rescued by Rebekah and a Mysterious Wolf. (instead of a Horse Girl, Hayley’s a Wolf Girl) but other than that, this mainly acts to set up the plot for the next few episodes (which I enjoy immensely!)
Back to Davina and her Cute Fiddler—their reunion serves as background noise to the real star of the episode, Cami’s trauma and her musings on the nature of evil and humanity.
“The world is an awful place. Best to meet it on its own terms.”
“No. The world isn’t awful. People aren’t awful. They want to be good. Something makes them bad.”
(In Klaus’s case it was rejection, daddy issues, and time. Stir and simmer for a millennium.)
But Cami’s desperation to understand her brother’s senseless killings, his suicide, is the first glimpse we get into her psyche. Her world. So far she’s just been a tool in the narrative. She could’ve been anyone. But now she’s someone. Someone who not only listens and responds to Klaus, but who has her own problems and her own worries. Her brother—her twin brother—killed people with no warning. And if she, who knew him like no one else did, couldn’t see it coming, how can she protect herself from the same?
Klaus: I don’t know anything about this and all I can say is “stand alone against your demons” because that’s all I’ve done and clearly it’s working great for me. Okbyetimeforyoutogo
(He’s not great at therapy. Or encouragement in general.)
He then struts down to the altar where he plants himself in front of Jesus and mother Mary and postures to Davina. What an incredible show. The audacity. I love it.
Same as before, Klaus tries to win her over by being suave and smooth and genteel. But that doesn’t work—so he pouts and uses brute force. Since he can’t compel Davina, he goes for her cute fiddler. Oh no!
Davina shatters the windows and then runs outside (?) in search of Tim. Meanwhile Klaus has him up top, where he unceremoniously tosses him over the railing. And then his fiddle. (Oh my gosh I hate him so much.)
I think this is meant to imply Davina thinks she hurt Tim with her magic, and Klaus can heal him to make her owe him something. Unfortunately, this is something I don’t think they ever circle back to—except that it cements Davina’s eternal and undying hatred for Klaus, something that never leaves, not even after the Few Seasons Fatigue sets in. She will always hate him. I respect her for that, but it does get boring. Girl, this is literally the Klaus Mikaelson Show. Accept it.
“If he remembers meeting you and comes knocking, poor Timothy might end up caught in an awful scheme to control you…again.”
Oh my GOSH he’s awful. The devil emoji was made for him.
And there’s another small hint of conflict between Marcel and Davina! When he asks her what happened at the church, why she’s there, she retorts rather resentfully, “I live here, remember?” Another fascinating thing that never quite comes full circle.
Klaus’s little snarl when he finds out Hayley has disappeared. His little smirk when he learns the baby has healed Hayley.
And we end on the star of the episode again—Cami’s sad, sad story. She invites Klaus in rather blithely—“this is super weird. Come in.” Girl, even uncompelled you have awful boundaries. Don’t let your employer in your house at night! Even if he asks politely! Even if you think his accent is cute!
Once again, Klaus reduces her agency. He takes away her part of the story—her brother’s suicide, her investigation, her worries. She is nothing more than a tool in his story, the story of how he wrested the city back from Marcel and became king of New Orleans. She can’t afford to have her own life, it’ll get in the way of his! Not to mention Sean’s breakdown is a dead end—he’s dead and he’s not coming back. So he must compel this interesting story out of her. But he’ll feel a little bit bad about it.
I love this line, where he appeals to family, to him trying to honor his brother (lol. You were the one who put him in a coffin, Klaus! You caused at least half these problems!) And Cami shoots back: “what about my brother?” because family in the abstract isn’t important to Klaus. Klaus’s family is important to Klaus, and only in that he can use them to help him retake the city.
It really makes me sad we never get to see Cami before Sean died. She goes through this show missing half of herself, and it’s implied she changed a lot after hearing the news. Yet we don’t hear much about it even past this season.
I’ve always thought the season doesn’t really get started until Elijah’s back with us. So, I guess the end of this episode is where the show really starts! Everyone welcome back the creepy guy in a suit who likes hanging out with little girls in attics—Elijah Mikaelson, guys!
We’ll be back this time next week to see who eats who: Elijah…or Davina.

Potential Character for Mrs. Kelsey and Tumblr 10/4/2023:
Jacob “Jake” Talbot, Werewolf and New Student at Cemeterra High:
What he’s from: Cemeterra High.
Background:
Jake was an ordinary teenage human who was starting his freshman year at high school, living at home with his parents, Lawrence and Gwen, and his bratty twin sisters, Mary and Shelley. Jake always felt like he never fit in in his family. His sisters were just spiteful snobs who were child models for tween magazine, and his parents, though they loved him very much, Jake felt like they favored his sisters over him. At school, because of his geeky interests, Jake started out as a bit of an introvert. One autumn night, against his parents' wishes, Jake goes to a party instead of attending one of his sisters’ shoots, to be with this girl he had a crush on at the time, only to find that it was a cruel prank. Returning home, defeated, Jake got into a major argument with his parents, stating how he always feels like a freak, and that he never fits in anywhere. Jake storms outside and takes a walk to clear his head. Unfortunately, there was a full moon that night. When Jake came home, his arm was bleeding, and he claims he was bitten by a really big “dog”. Then after getting exposed to the light of the moonlight, Jake slowly started turning into a real live WEREWOLF!!!
Now stuck in this new monster form, soon after, Jake receives a mysterious letter announcing his transfer to Cemeterra High, a creepy school, in a monster-dominated land called “Cemeterra”. But since monsters have a very medieval attitude toward humans, Jake had enough sense not to mention he used to be human. The terrified boy was having a very difficult time fitting in, and was desperate to find a cure for his werewolf curse to return to his old life, until a kindly group of teenage monsters took him in and befriended him. With their help, Jake learns to survive the trials and tribulations of being a teenaged monster, and in doing so, he begins to change his outlook on the monster world, as well as his own life, and even ends up catching the eye of a popular vampire girl…
How he is like me:
We’re both clever, intelligent, cautious, kind, friendly, mischievous, a little sarcastic, protective, easily frustrated at times, and somewhat nerdy. Also, we like our friends. Granted, it’s sometimes hard to deal with various aspects of my personality (i.e. being easily frustrated, sometimes), and it’s not always the right time to be sarcastic or mischievous. And sometimes I need help dealing with frustration.
Kelsey Notes:
Freshman year in high school can be difficult because you start school in a new environment, you start to care more about what people think about you, and immaturity leads to mean bullies
As adults starting out in a new environment you are just finding out how your personality fits in with those around you.
In addition to fitting in at school, he as to adapt to becoming a werewolf and has to navigate what comes with that territory
Becoming a werewolf ended up being a “blessing in disguise”- he found an environment that suited him and was surrounded by others that were more like him and having to deal with similar magical situations.
Everyone is self conscious and as we get older, we learn to embrace our weaknesses and accept that, like everyone, we have faults that can make it more difficult to get along with others.
Learning to become more self aware of the things you struggle with can help you recognize when you might be more prone to lash out at others.
Preventative strategies can be useful for this- if we know we’re having a bad day and more likely to lash out- we can communicate our emotions and difficulties in the moment with our support systems
Rather than feel upset with ourselves that we’ve lashed out at others, we can feel proud that we advocated for help on hard days

The Werewolf’s Mate Ch. 31 (A BakuDeku Werewolf Au)
Chapter 31: Tension
Izuku had never felt such tension in the air since the night of the treaty banquet he had tried to set up. Vampires and werewolves were angry with one another and right now this was no differnet of except there were much fewer individuals there.
And Izuku was possibly an in between of life and death.
Katsuki's pack and Shoto had car pooled together and apparently it had been the longest ride in their lives. The tension Izuku felt was there from the car and no one had really talked.
They were civil of course.
But now it possibly was worse.
Katsuki would not let anyone near Izuku right now, being very protective over him. Izuku understood why, but had asked him not to do it.
It was hard for the blonde not to snap at anyone as they approached.
Shoto was allowed first, inspecting the bite on Izuku's neck. It was fully healed, just a scar on his shoulder in the shape of a wolf bite.
“I've never hard of this before,” Shoto mumbled to him, looking up at Izuku. Green eyes looked at him in worry. “Well once, but I never thought of such a thing to be true.”
Katsuki eyed him with a glare as Shoto stood up and went to pull out his phone, shaking his head a bit as he started to pace about the room.
“I'd have to do some reasearch on this,” he stated.
“We don't have time for you do to research,” Katsuki snapped at him. Truce be forgotten he wanted a cure for his lover now.
“No one has heard of this before. This is something of legend. All we know is that a werewolf bite can kill us,” Shoto retorted back.
“Clearly not,” Kaminari mentioned after a moment, looking to Iuzku. “He looks fine to me. Maybe a little tired but with how uptight everyone has been that's be expected.”
Kirishima sighed softly. “He's right though. That's what we've been taught since were pups. A werewolf bite can kill a vampire. To have Izuku survive one is something even we haven't heard of in our schooling.”
“If, he survies,” Shoto grumbled. “We don't know if it's delayed by the all the werewolf blood in his system from drinking from Katsuki constantly. He is the only source of food for Izuku. He throws up everything else.”
“Seriously?” Mina asked, swallowing. Her brows furrowed and she looked up at Kirishima. “There was one. In those old story books. I think his name started with an A.”
Izuku let out a small groan, rubbing his temples which caught the attention of everyone. Katsuki immediately went to him, resting his arm around him carefully as he looked to him.
“All this bickering is giving me a headache,” Izuku grumbled to him.
“Rest,” Katsuki urged, sitting on the couch next to him and guided Iuzku's head to his shoulder. Izuku made another noise but sighed, letting Katsuki do it, eyeing Shoto as he contemplated something in his mind and his pacing.
“You've got something Shoto,” Izuku said. Even the short time he had known the other vampire he caught cues from him.
Shoto, at least to Izuku, was easy to read.
“The man of legend...the one vampire that everyone spoke of...wasn't fully a vampire, at least that's what the legend says. He was half vampire, half werewolf,” Shoto explained. “His name was All Might. He's the one who owned that neckace you wear Izuku.”
“All Might! That was the guy's name. The werewolf that walked with vampires,” Mina said, her eyes shining with excitement.
Izuku's fingers brushed the necklace, looking to them all confused.
Shoto and Mina shared a look and finally it felt like the tension broke in the room around them. A small smile formed on Shoto's face and he nodded his head, pulling out the laptop that he had in his bag to start looking up stuff.
“Is this All Might guy actually real?” Katsuki asked.
“Izuku's necklace that protects him from the sun was his. It protected him from the sun, as he was the only day walker we knew of. With how things worked out it would seem like over time it was just meant for deocration,” Shoto explained. “But it's purpose is used by Izuku in secret.”
“It seems the legend of him has been told differently between werewolves and vampires,” Kirishima sighed oftly. “How can a man be both of them? We've been enemies for centruies.”
“I wanted to change that,” Izuku said softly.
“So did he,” Kaminari said. “Whatever happened to him anyway?” “Just one day he disappeared,” Katsuki said, realizing he remembered this story. He used to love this story when he was just a pup. It was one of his favorites. Despite that he was part vampire, All Might was his hero.
“Probably no shot of him being around,” Izuku said softly. He had heard a lot of tales of All Might. There were mixed feelings about him within the vampires. But they respected him as being the day walker.
But perhaps when he became a werewolf or when they found out their views had changed on him? It was all confusing and there wasn't enough information.
“Wait, how did you get a hold of that necklace from him?” Kirishima asked skeptical. “How could you have kept this a secret all this time?”
Shoto paused in his typing and then he looked at Izuku. The young vampire nodded his head and Shoto sighed.
“My family has held it for a long time. Since All Might had disappeared. He had given it to my father with the words of give it to his rightful....heir...” Shoto stated and then snapped shut the laptop, causing everyone to jump.
“What?” Katsuki snapped. “Is Izuku not the rightful heir?”
“I'm not sure,” Shoto said. “I'm not going to take that back at all, that belongs to Izuku. It's what makes him the new leader.”
“Not that I wanted it...” Izuku grumbled under his breath. Katsuki rubbed his knee as he tried to get more answers out of Shoto.
“What are you thinking?”
“The werewolf gene is passed down from your parents, right?” Shoto asked. “Though there are moments where it lies dorment?”
“Yeah, and?” Kirishima asked. “Every werewolf family we have ever come to know in the packs were never dorment.”
“My mother was not a werewolf,” Izuku said. “She's human.”
“And your father?” Shoto asked, getting a glint in his bi colored eyes. Izuku frowned a bit, thinking back to the one picture he had seen of his father.
His mother never talked about him. She told him he took off when he was nothing but a small baby and never returned.
He didn't even know if the man was alive.
“Are you saying this All Might is my father?” Izuku asked the skeptisicm heavy in his voice. There was no way this man of legend could be his father.
“All Might disappeared many years ago. Well before you were even born Izuku,” Katsuki explained. “There's no way.” “But Izuku could be related to him,” Shoto stated. “Izuku could very well be the rightful heir to All Might through his werewolf heritage. His father could have been a werewolf and passed it on to Izuku, where it laid dorment.”
“You're not making any sense,” Mina said, frustrated, the tension starting to rise again in the room. Izuku let out a sigh, pushing up from Katsuki's shoulder to lean back against the couch. She was right. All this talk about dorment werewolf genes, his own family which was a can of worms he didn't want to talk about, and this All Might business.
How this all linked together to the fact that he may or may not be dying from the bite that his boyfriend had given him the night before.
“I have to agree with her Shoto, you really aren't making any sense,” Izuku sighed. “I wish Uruaka would show up already...”
She had told them she would meet them there. That there were a few things she needed to do and gather first before she would end up with them.
“I'm saying Izuku, that you have the werewolf gene. And from getting bitten by Katsuki, it set it off,” Shoto explained.
“Even changing a human doesn't work unless it's-” Kaminari started, only to be interupted by Katsuki as his eyes widened.
“A full moon. It was a full moon. I bit him. He hasn'tdied and the wound has healed,” Katsuki finished. Sure Izuku hadn't turned into a beast that night but that might have something to do with the vampirism inside of him. “You're saying Izuku is werewolf and vampire?”
“Taking after All Might,” Shoto said, throwing up his hands as finally, finally, someone was getting what he was saying.
The group was quiet, letting the information sinking in finally of what was going on around them. Izuku had to admit...Shoto had a point.
“How do we test that out,” Izuku asked.
“We aren't testing anything out,” Katsuki said. He was not going to risk Iuzku getting hurt or anything else.
“I'm sure there are a few things we would need to test. Like if you are a day walker without the necklace, and if you transform at all during the next full moon,” Shoto stated.
“That's a month away. I could be dead before then,” Izuku sighed.
“That's where I come in,” came Uruaka's voice. All eyes turned to the door as Uruskaka basically phased through it, letting out a sigh.
“Uruaka,” Izuku said with some relief, going to his friend and he hugged her tightly. She smiled a bit and pat his back.
“I think I came in the knick of time,” she said, turning to address the others. “I can run a bunch of tests. Test Izuku's blood, simulate a full moon for him, and even see if the werwolf venom had poisioned him or if it has changed him.”
“I'm glad we're able to figure this out,” Kirishima sighed. “But why had the whole pack come in?”
“Protection,” Katsuki said without even thinking. “And Trust. We're the only ones that know and we need to protect him.”
“And you,” Izuku said with a frown.
The blonde rolled his eyes but continued. “There are werewolves and vampires looking for both of us. Ones that are willing to take out anyone in their way to get what they want. They want to find me and kill me for taking Izuku.”
“But you didn't,” Izuku sighed.
“They don't see it that way,” Katsuki stated.
“Either way I need to get started right away,” Uruaka stated. “Any place I can start setting up? I'll need help as well.”
“I'll help. I think the kitchen will work,” Shoto said, standing up. Mina did as well.
“I'm in,” Mina said, helping Uruaka with her bags as they went to the kitchen to get started on everything.
Izuku bit his lip. He hated everyone was going through all this for him but....what else could he do? He needed help.
Katsuki turned to look at him and then pulled Izuku into his arms, finally letting himself hold onto him for the first time in hours.
Izuku closed his eyes, relaxing and letting himself fall asleep from all the stress.
