what do you mean alina has to wear first army soldier’s uniform. that first army was killing grisha, her people, left and right and the writers made ZERO statement on it.

it’s so unfair that in the books alina was manipulated into not wearing darkling’s color, a man who protected grisha from otkazat’sya for centuries.

but everyone was fine w her wearing simple soldier’s uniform 🤡🤡 at least in the books they gave her golden kefta w jewelry and all the fancy shit she deserved.

book! Alina would turn them all into fruit ninja if they tried to put her in that ugly uniform of men who ordered to kill her.

Athough I personally feel that the execution of Mal and Alina's romance fell kinda flat for most people becouse the inherent push and pull of Darklina overshadowing thier relationship, can we take a moment to consider how how insanely dramatic Malina actualy is??

Like, think about it this way; Alina could have ended up with either a prince and become a queen or she could have ended up with the Darkling and become one of two of the most powerful Grisha. But she said no to both because Alina wanted love more then she wanted power.

The Darkling and Nikolai would have never looked at her twice before her powers where discovered. But Mal always saw her even if he wouldnt admit it to himself. And then the time he had to work through how he felt for Alina was stolen away from him when Alina was taken away.

And Alina literally PUSHED DOWN HER POWRS SUBCONSULY AS A KID JUST TO STAY WITH HIM!! And then Alina's powers first came to light when she was trying to save him. LIKE??? THE TRAGADY!! THE DRAMA!!! The very thing she pushed down to stay by his side inevitably was the thing that separated them. And they have the rest of the sires to try to find the balance between love and power.

For all the allure of Darklina and the fated "like calls to like" element of thier relationship I think that somehow Alina rejecting the idea of grand destiny and romance and saying "I dont care if your not ment for me, I'm still choosing you" and sticking with Mal makes me go feral in the best possible way.

Thier relationship was never easy, and they had forces on either side trying to tear them apart.But Mal didnt love her becouse she was a saint or becouse she was powerfull. He loved her becouse she was the same prickly girl who was his best freind since they where kids. He loved her even when loving her was the hardest thing in the world.

And Alina loved Mal becouse through all the turmoil of the books he remained a constant for her, and to her, he was the only home that she's ever known.

As a fandom we dont talk about how emotionally devastating that is brb I'm going to cry

I will be the first to say that the Grishaverse has its flaws. There are many problems with it but my main criticism is with the fandom. Especially the ones on booktok/bookstagram that always are like “my least favorites trope is when the fem!mc loses her powers in the end” and I look in the comments and see people saying “Omg like Alina”.

It doesn’t make any sense to me, I feel like I’ve seen that trope in less than 5 books, but maybe I’m wrong. However, Alina losing her power totally makes sense in the book. She doesn’t even want the power, her whole thought process is “means justify the end”. She says multiple times after the first few chapters in the Little Palace that she doesn’t like being a Grisha. It wasn’t healthy for her and she wasn’t thriving; hell, the people there didn’t even like her. Alina gathered all the power from the amplifiers to take down the Darkling, and it was said multiple times by her mentors that the power she was gaining was unnatural.

Her gathering of the amplifiers was breaking the natural order of things and creating rifts that we later see in KoS/RoW. Alina’s powers wiping themselves out after she strained herself and fixing the problem that was breaking the natural order makes so much sense. Her powers getting rid of themselves was restoring the world to what it was supposed to be.

Also people act like Alina was upset that she lost her power, and while I think she mourned the power she’d gained in that time, she wasn’t too sad. She enjoyed it because she could live a peaceful life with Mal, doing what she wanted, free from the constraints and stress from politics and dealing with life and death.

Certain people were just completely making things up about how Alina was feeling, forgetting she was a child who liked the idea of being a Grisha. After she got a taste of what it was like, and the stress (mental and physical) that came with it, she hated it. She hated when she became a saint because people were treating her like a thing not a person. Alina did everything she did to do what was right and when she was done went to the peaceful life she craved with Mal. And for some reason people interpret this as “Leigh didn’t want Alina to be happy” when you can clearly see she’s happier living a quiet life.

You were in your room. Your kefta was thrown on the chair and you were sitting on the bed in an undershirt. Suddenly you heard that someone is knocking on the door.

You: Come in!

After your words, the creaking of the door was heard and Nikolai Lantsov, the king of Ravka, appeared on the threshold. As usual he looked stunning.

Nikolai: Good morning! How's my favourite Sun Summoner?- he said with a bright smile on his beautiful face.

You: I did not sleep well. My head hurts, I feel like I've had too much alcohol and the day seems disgusting to me.- you said while rubbing your head.

Nikolai: Oh sweetheart but your always optimistic about everything!

You: But today no!

Nikolai came closer and sat next to you.

Nikolai: I'll make your day happier, love!

After these words he kissed you long and when you had to separate your lips from his, you complained.

You whined: Ohhhhhh why do you have to stop kissing me, moi tsar!

Nikolai: Because you have to get up and get ready for the day, darling!- his grin became wider.

You: You have to promise me that tonight you will not stop kissing me, my love! Or I'm not getting up!

Nikolai wrapped his arms around you and lifted you off the bed. You whimpered.

You: You did not promise!

Nikolai kissed you softly: I promise you, sweetheart!

what eric heisserer did to alina’s character was absolutely devastating

first of all she got less than two hours of the whole timeline of the whole s2 as a main character.

if they made shadow and bone crossed with the crows, which was absolutely unnecessary and dumb decision because they sidelined even crows themselves and didn’t enlighten none of the problems crows themselves suffered like what jesper and nina felt as grishas or what happened to inej. all of it just to lift kaz’s backstory.

and yes, if they made kaz and alina leads, why kaz got his lines from the books and alina got none when originally this show & books were about her and her only

they promised they’d explore alina’s heritage but by some reasons she was the only person who didn’t get any backstory and they left no clue who are her parents and did other sun summoners exist before. sorry I don’t accept the book ending either because alina was only special and leigh left her powerless with some stinky otkazat’sya on a farm.

and what we got? “empty promises” as said alina in s2 but darkling’s promises were real and the writers’ aren’t. even jessie mei li wasn’t much comfortable about the decision of alina’s complete erasure.

I also can write miles of text how badly they treated the actress herself how they made jessie stay the longest on set, didn’t include most of scenes and how they made everyone shoot in a warm clothes (darkling’s death scene) in 35 degrees hot.

what drives me more mad is that mal knows whose descendant he is, why is he like this but NOTHING for alina. and I even know why, because in any case if alina’s backstory was in the book & show the ending wouldn’t fit leigh’s and eric’s narratives (alina’s terrible ending)

alina is the most powerful and the most interesting and the most unexplored character even in the books and I’m so angry they made her asian just to violently sideline her

also as I remember correct one writer was also involved in a show that erased asian character (dc titans?)

the only and only thing about the show is alina ending up a queen, surrounded by grisha and a good husband who may not be her lover but he’s protective, will always listen to her, will never whine , will help her etc (I’ll forever annoy y’all with my darkolina agenda)
