#seriously the dialogue and plot at times was ridiculous

Season eight was a steaming dumpster of plots and quick character building activities while setting up the "then they lived happily ever after" but they truly truly did House and Wilson's relationship justice in the end I will say that.
I was so mad at how the writers of the show clearly wanted to go one way with House and Cuddy's relationship, while the producers and actors disagreed on actually getting there, and that will be a loss to the show really. Even if they didn't last they deserved a more heartfelt attempt at a relationship after six seasons and two decades of apparent history. Alas!
House finally finally changed and became the man he wanted to be, because of Wilson's death. Nothing before that, or perhaps everything before that, prepared him for who he was meant to be. He gave of himself willingly for Wilson's benefit and not his own repeatedly. And when Wilson is gone he has no life, no job, but he knows he'll be ok. Despite this being the one thing that hurts the most. Because in the end all his subconscious people were wrong. He doesn't still need the puzzle or the meds or anything.
He's not going to lose it and kill himself when Wilson does eventually die. He's going to grieve like he's seen patients families do, and then he's going to live for Wilson for as long as he's got left of his own clock.
He's got no money and he can't get in trouble with the law lest he blow his cover but he'll pass the time. Who knows... Maybe he just goes from town to town helping people with their simple ailments like he knows Wilson enjoyed. No puzzles no excitement just fixing people up and moving along.

the fact is that the john wick movies are at least a little camp and you simply cannot take them fully seriously if you want to get the most out of them. yes the dialogue can be ridiculously broody and dramatic. the plot is just a convoluted means to wrangle fight scene after fight scene into place. this entire setting is fucking absurd. and it's great!! who cares!!! you don't watch john wick for award-winning scriptwriting, you watch the films to see keanu reeves kill people for 2+ hours in a visual feast of stunt choreography and lighting. also there's genuinely hilarious dark comedy moments, and they Make some scenes at times. try to take john wick as a wholly gritty dark straight-faced action franchise and you will end up disappointed and also have no fun. if you ever find yourself doing so, please check yourself and remember that the catalyst for all these movies is john getting revenge for people shooting his dog. and the correct reaction to this is that he's entirely right. thank you and have a good night

"Be a good boy for me and hold off until I see you again.” Eddie’s entire body feels like an electric shock went through it. His dick twitches helplessly. “You want me to…” Eddie lets out a shuddering breath. “To not touch myself all week?” *** Eddie tries to make it through a week of sexual frustration. Steve makes sure that his obedience was worthwhile. In the meantime, the boys keep growing closer, intimately and emotionally.
Snippet below!
The phone keeps ringing as Eddie swings the bedroom door open and jogs towards it, awkwardly adjusting himself before picking up.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Eddie.”
Eddie can’t help the joyful smile that tugs on his lips.
“Hey, Stevie.” He grabs the phone off the wall and makes sure the cord isn’t tangled around the furniture. “Hang on, just gonna… drag the phone to my room… one sec.”
“You sound a little winded, baby. Been working out?” Steve’s tone is teasing, and Eddie feels his cheeks burn.
He shuts the door again, drops the phone on the bed and flops down next to it.
“Uhhh… something like that.”
On the other end of the line, Steve chuckles. Eddie bites his lip and thinks. He’s being ridiculous, really. He doesn’t need to be hiding the truth… right? Not with everything that has transpired between them. But it still makes him agitated and hot all over. You don’t just tell a guy you’ve been touching yourself thinking about him, not in Eddie’s experience. And what if Steve thinks it’s gross?
“Thanks for the breakfast, by the way, that was… like… really sweet of you,” he says instead. “And for letting me sleep in.”
“You’re welcome.” Eddie can tell Steve’s smiling. “I gotta admit, the latter wasn’t easy, considering…” Eddie hears him inhale deeply, and realizes… Steve’s a bit nervous.
“Considering what, Stevie?” He prompts gently.
Steve hesitates for a few more seconds, but when he speaks, his voice sounds more firm.
“Considering I really wanted to ditch work and wake you up instead.”
Eddie grins and clutches the phone a little tighter to his ear.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. You were all over me, and you were hard, baby. Wanna know how I’d wake you, if we had time?”
The room is suddenly way too warm again. Eddie can sort of predict what comes next, just from Steve’s tone. And yet, he still can’t fully believe this is his life now. Steve Harrington speaking filthy things into his ear.
“I’d put my hand on you. Rub your dick. See how long it takes for you to stop snoring and open those pretty big eyes for me, sleeping beauty.”
“Jesus Christ,” Eddie whispers under his breath, squeezing himself through the boxers.
“Would you even wake up?” Steve’s voice continues to torment him. “You seem like a heavy sleeper. Maybe you’d just hump my hand in your sleep until you came.”
“Holy shit. Steve.” Eddie’s erection has barely flagged since they started talking, and now… yeah, it was like there was no interruption at all. He bites his lip as he slips his hand under the waistband again and rubs his palm over his dick, playing out Steve’s fantasy. “I… I don’t know. Maybe.” Feeling brave all of a sudden, he adds, “Maybe you should find out. I could come over on Saturday.” He’d have to move a jam session with the guys to Friday, and come up with an excuse, but it’s doable. “So you could… do that. On Sunday morning. No work. Oh fuck…” He knows he’s panting into the speaker, knows Steve can’t not hear that.
He does. Of course he does.
“Oh wow. You were touching yourself when I called.”
Eddie lets out a winded laugh, hand still working over his dick.
“No shit, have you ever seen me working out?” He bites his lip. “Guess what I’m doing now, Stevie.”
“Oh, I know what you’re doing, baby. Having fun without me again, are you? Tsk-tsk .” Something in Steve’s voice makes Eddie pause. “It’s not fair, you know. When I can’t be there to see you, see how pretty and worked up you are for me.”
Steve Harrington will be the death of him.
“Fuck.” Eddie withdraws his hand and rolls onto his side, still hot all over, and a little embarrassed. “I just… I can’t stop thinking about… yesterday. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, baby. I’m thrilled that you’re thinking of me. Just… be a good boy for me and hold off until I see you again.”
Eddie’s entire body feels like an electric shock went through it. His dick twitches helplessly.
“You want me to…” Eddie lets out a shuddering breath. “To not touch myself all week?” He quickly does the mental math. That’s… five days. Five days of being constantly horny because there’s no way he’d be able to stop thinking about this call.
“I’m not a complete monster,” Steve replies teasingly. “You can do that. Scratch an itch, if you feel like. Just don’t let yourself come.”
“Oh my god.”
There’s no way he’d be able to do that. He’s always had zero patience when it came to getting himself off, but… maybe that’s kind of the whole point. The whole idea is frustrating in the best possible way, especially when he knows Steve’s getting off on this, on controlling him like this.
Eddie wonders how Steve came up with this. Was it an impromptu idea, just because he caught him like this? Or was he planning this all along? Did he fantasize about it? Jesus, he probably did. And he, Eddie Munson, has the power to please Steve like this… It’s fucking exhilarating.
“Eddie?” Steve’s voice breaks the silence. “Sweetheart. Talk to me. Color?”
“Green, holy shit. This is hot as fuck. I’m going to die,” Eddie laughs, a little hysterical. “Make sure to put it on my tombstone. Here lies Eddie Munson, who died of blue balls.”
The sound of Steve’s answering laughter in his ear makes Eddie’s insides all warm and squirmy.
“You’ll survive. You want to get your reward at the end of it, don’t you?”
Eddie perks up. “Reward?” He grins. “I’m listening.”
“Nuh-huh. It’s a surprise.”
“But…”
“No buts.”
Eddie sighs dramatically.
“Oh, and Eddie?”
“Hmm?”
“Good luck tomorrow. With the job. You’re gonna rock it.”

Guys, when I tell you I've been OBSESSING over the interplay between the phrases 'his beloved son' and 'history is written by the victor' know that I mean it. And here's why.
For a long, long time, I've been trying to figure out what Tankhun's piece on the chessboard is. It just seemed to ridiculously simple to make him the rook and doesn't line up with the other long range attackers Korn placed on the board. Pete as bishop and Porsche as queen were both instrumental in Korn's plot against the minor family, hence their status as long range attackers. Tankhun won't even leave the house, which takes me back to that fucking dialogue, because it stuck in my over-analyzing craw.
Now, there's a few things in this exchange that jumped out to me, with the first being Tankhun's face when he uttered the words 'his beloved son'.
Tumblr media
My horny on main masses of the KP fandom, does this look like the face of a son celebrating a victory with his father? Or is it the face of a man celebrating a victory against his father?
Well, I know I've got my opinion, so buckle in kids. It's about to be a ride.
The next thing worth pointing out is our jump to Korn's room, where if we follow the established pattern of green meaning danger, we're about to get ourselves some pretty heavy-handed messaging:
Tumblr media
Now, a few things happened in this scene. The first is that Korn responded with 'History is only written by the victor'. He didn't say victors, as in the plural, he said VICTOR. I actually tried to include this photo with the words, but for some reason Tumblr decided to scoot them all to the right in this very unsightly way, but what's important is we have a visual of what's happening in the background.
You see the green Mr. Belvedere era lamp casting an eerie green glow on that bronze statuette of the violinist? You know who else played the violin? Kinn, in the Filmania version of KinnPorsche. Also pictured are the two fighting fish housed in completely unacceptable bowls, which is really going to play into the symbolism of where Korn FUCKED UP as I continue this long winded and convoluted rant.
Now something we've all been asking is why these bodyguards never wear bulletproof vests, why they're given all this training, all this great equipment, but no safety gear. Well, if Korn's staying true to his 'survival of the fittest' philosophy, the idea that competition breeds strength, then it makes sense he'd only want to keep the bodyguards most capable of survival around. And THIS is where we see Korn's first real weakness as a strategist.
The thing about 'survival of the fittest' is that people don't understand that it doesn't mean the survival of the biggest bads of the animal world. And if you doubt my word, may I present exhibit A of this desperate misunderstanding of that concept made manifest:
Tumblr media
Like seriously? How do these dorks exist?
And the answer is because they adapted traits that would allow them to best REPLICATE in nature, not conquer it.
So with all this in mind, doesn't it stand out to you that Tankhun's bodyguards are really the only scarce few to survive? That Tankhun has a care for keeping them safe and alive? He clearly demonstrated this in his own way with Pete. There are subtle moments, subtle indications, that he's in fundamental disagreement with his father's philosophy.
Something else that stuck in my head was how quick and seamlessly he brought up his brothers with Chay, even going so far as to offer a visual aid, which most people don't do when they mention they have siblings. I think Tankhun knew about Kim and Chay, and that blowing up Kim's spot was a calculated move. And why was it calculated?
Because I think Tankhun knows that Korn wants Kim to take over the main family. That Korn has a deranged philosophy of pitting the family against one another to breed the strongest possible leaders for his empire, and that Kinn's life is in mortal fucking danger, for the crime of caring about his brothers enough to step up and do a job they didn't want to do. I think Tankhun knew Korn faked his death and was using it not only to draw out gun, but to get Kinn out of the way as well. Korn drove a wedge between him and Porsche to separate them, I think Korn was the one who told Kim where Chay was to keep him out of the final showdown, and I think he did that specifically to keep Kim from protecting Kinn, and Tankhun KNEW this.
But the thing about survival of the fittest is that while Korn might be a psychopath, his kids aren't. Korn's biggest weakness is he couldn't replicate himself in his sons, and that's why Tankhun sent him that text. He was telling his father, "You're the one who's weak. You're the one whose being is not worth replicating. Your lack of love is your weakness and I'm going to show you why."
Tankhun knows so much more than he lets on, and that's when it hit me. Tankhun isn't any piece at all. Tankhun is the invisible player on the other side of the board that Korn's REALLY playing against, but he's out to save all the pieces he captures.
Meanwhile, while the fish in separate bowls may be symbolic of a lull in the fighting, there's still two fish left, so Korn's giving them a break while he plots his next move. The trouble is, much like fish living in two separate tanks, raised to kill each other, his ideas are never going to breed, and that is where Korn's fundamental understanding of survival of the fittest being about strength rather than replication is going to fuck him over.

So today I watched two movies where the deuteragonist goes kinda nuts and turns into a dragon thing, before the protagonist has to calm them down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were both a pretty fun time!
Promare is something I had been meaning to watch for quite a while but somehow never got around to. Glad I finally did!
Promare has quite possibly the Worst oppression allegory I have ever seen. A bunch of people are discriminated against because they burned half the world and killed billions (with a B!) of people. Also it’s not actually anything inherent to them it’s a bunch of alien parasites that will destroy the planet. However, since this is basically just an excuse for robots to fight other robots on fire… I can’t say I really care in the end. Promare is ENTIRELY style over substance, and I mean that in the best way.
The plot is breakneck and stupid. Most of the characters barely register as such. The dialogue is so dumb. And it FUCKING RULES! I’ve seen the film described as “Anime the Anime” and that does kind of sum it up. Everything feels like a ten year old boy smashing his action figures together and you can’t help but get swept up in the enthusiasm.
Helped by the absolutely (excuse the pun) FIRE soundtrack. The energy almost never lets up, and on-the-nose engrish lyrics just add to the experience. Even if you don’t watch the movie holy heck listen to the soundtrack.
The characters may be paper-thing but holy hell are they fun to watch. Our protagonist, Galo, himbo extraordinaire is as ridiculous as he is somehow charming. You can’t help but admire his drive to help people. And his foil, the ironically icy Lio, here to set fires and fight for his rights. Aina, a nice, spunky girl set up as a love interest for about five minutes before it turns out her character has more of a story based around her relationship with her sister. Which is a nice change! In fact the only romance in the story arguably involves CPR for plausible deniability. And our hero remembers to open the airway thank heck. Though whether intentional or just ship tease who knows? And who cares. You can guess who the villain is about ten seconds after he shows up and he is as much a blast to watch as the rest.
And really, this is a movie with a secret robot used to save the day called the Deus X Machina. A movie that ends with two shirtless guys setting the Earth on fire to stop the Earth from being set on fire. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and really neither should you. Let it sweep you away for almost two hours and you will feel much better afterwards.
-
I started reading Nimona around the time it was wrapping up as a webcomic. I have a copy of the graphic novel on my shelf. I was excited when I heard the movie had been greenlit (less so when I heard it was Blue Sky Studios), disappointed by the cancellation and, well, I’m happy it’s here now. While I’ve gotten grouchier over the years, it does make me smile to see these guys on my television, even if they’re not quite the same people either.
Because the movie is very different, and yet much of it feels similar as well. Certain scenes, like the board game, are almost directly from the comic, others are from the comic but not quite the same. The characters are different, Ballister is less jaded, Ambrosius less delusional and Nimona less, well, monstrous. She seems to more beat the snot out of people than commit mass murder. In the comic she’s every bit the monster people fear her to be, though a sympathetic one, and perhaps one who will heal someday. While the ending of the movie is far happier, it fits the new tone. And honestly? I need to stop making comparisons and judge the damn movie on its own merits. Of which it has many!
Our setup is fairly simple, Ballister BlackBoldheart is a new knight of the realm, who immediately gets framed for the murder of the queen and disarmed (heh) by his boyfriend Ambrosius Goldenloin, while on the lam he is approached by a shapeshifter called Nimona who is up for a little mayhem and hijinks. Together they try and clear his name.
My fist fear when I heard Blue Sky studios would be the ones releasing the movie was that a lot of the humour would be Quite Bad. And while there definitely is plenty of that, I think more gags hit than miss. Hell the movie got quite a few laughs out of my dad and he’s a fair bit less likely to chuckle than I am. It is quite a funny movie, which is good because it helps the harsher moments hit harder. Because there are also plenty of those, especially in the final act.
Speaking of, the film is somewhat surprisingly well paced. Scenes tend not to overstay their welcome and the movie flows well. What else flows well? The animation! (My segways not so much) Everything is very smooth, which is rather necessary for all the shapeshifting, and there’s quite an interesting scene made to look as if subway tiles are telling the story of Nimona’s origins (ish).
And the main trio really are quite fun to watch. Ballister, always the underdog, now a public enemy and trying to both clear his name and perhaps open his mind a bit. Ambrosius, golden boy, trying to do the right thing and not always doing a great job. And, of course, Nimona, who’s just here to break shit, though it is quickly clear there’s more underneath, also a pretty blatant trans allegory.
The relationships Ballister has with both the other two are sweet as heck, but also riddled with mistrust that they all have to work to overcome.
And while the movie does get a little preachy at times, it’s a kid’s movie. What do you expect? Rah rah fight the power, all that jazz. I may be too jaded for it but it certainly works.
Would recommend checking out both or either if they sound like something you’d enjoy!

did you guys know that i really, REALLY love both of the pilot episodes for mp100 seasons 1 and 2 because theyre fucking perfect. i'm gonna talk about them. shut up
S1E1:
literally the first thing you see is a distorted mob fighting evil spirits in a wasteland while his bgm plays. no dialogue, no context, no explanations; just batshit visuals and music to make sure you're awake for what's to come
introduces reigen in the funniest ways possible and immediately gets you familiar with his Vibe, yet leaves you with even more questions like "is this the main character? am i supposed to root for this asshole????"
whoops here comes a little boy! whoops he's extremely powerful! and doesn't that music sound familiar??
"THIS IS SHIGEO KAGEYAMA, ALSO KNOWN AS MOB- ... THE PROTAGONIST OF THIS STORY" incredible.
in contrast to All That we then see mob and reigen's ridiculous dynamic, followed by mob's daily life at school. whatever expectations you had about either of these characters 9 minutes ago were wrong (OR WERE THEY????)
now that you know the duo and their main characteristics a little better it's time to really watch them in action. the haunted tunnel does such a good job of showing what mob and reigen actually do at work, how they play off on each other's quirks, setting the tone for the overall supernatural plot, and of course the animation is just gorgeous too
ESTABLISHES THAT REIGEN ACTUALLY DOES LOOK OUT FOR MOB, AND WORRIES FOR HIS SAFETY, EVEN WHEN HE (REALISTICALLY) DOESN'T NEED TO. i can't stress how important this is to show from the beginning, i've seen so many people gloss over that detail and continue to act like he doesn't care about him?? wtf
ALSO ESTABLISHES MOB'S UNCONDITIONAL KINDNESS AND FORGIVENESS. very good
that final scene of mob just.. staring at a group of teens hanging out and talking together while he waits for reigen at the station, who then takes him out for ramen. it adds even more to the genuinity of their friendship, but also hints at mob's struggle to connect with others and figure out what to do in his spare time. all of that, that single episode is just like, the whole show. this is all you need to know
S2E1:
same old reigen with his same old schemes, but it's a nice detail that he didn't wamt to take money from the poor farmer guy and instead asked for a cut of his harvest (who said he doesn't even do fieldwork for a living anyway). reigen's refusal to accept unfair payment comes up a lot in this show and i think that's neat
same(?) old(?) mob goes "shishou for the love of god i have a life outside of this job yknow"
when the wriggle spirit captures reigen first and threatens to kill him if mob persists, mob actually lets his guard down. 1) he learned from last time 2) possibly foreshadowing how mob will be the one to save reigen in more ways than one this season
mob realizes that the spirit isn't directly possessing the plants, but rather sending out a signal that forces them to obey it, which is technically still a form of "control". COUGH minegishi COUGH COUGH toichiro
also mob basically learns plant magic! ~this action will have consequences~
🅱️ROCCOLI
lots of arcs that started in s1 are immediately continued! ichi and the psycho helmet cult, shinji stepping down from the student council, ritsu supporting his brother, etc. and just seeing how many friends mob has now that want him to succeed is amazing
the fact that mob even agrees to ichi's plan about the election and takes it so seriously is proof of how much more determined/confident he's become
mob gets asked out for the first time in his life, and even though it turns out he rejected emi, he's so cool about everything and still wants to hang out and get to know her - early s1 mob probably couldn't have handled it this well
"do you even have feelings, or your own opinions?" "i decided to consider my feelings more" THOSE ARE THE MAGIC WORDS FOR SEASON 2'S OVERALL THEMES AND PLOT BABEY!!!!
the floating paper scene. i don't even need to say anything just take it in
OHO? TSUBOMI? SCHEMING? LURKING? could this be the beginning of the rumored "character depth" i've heard so much about???
n e way. season 3 soon. explodes

Scream 7 needs to take risks, take the kid gloves off and be a blood bath
So I've counted all the people that have survived the Scream franchise. 9 in total
Sidney
Gale
Kirby
Mark Kincaid
Sam
Tara
Chad
Mindy
Danny
This is bad. You play it too safe and it's going to hurt the next movie, ESPECIALLY if it's the final movie in the franchise.
So Scream 7 has to be a bloodbath. Scream 6 while enjoyable, played it too safe. People actually have to die. It is so fucking ridiculous that Scream 6 was so afraid to take risks.
Chad survived despite surviving shit that would make Dewey go "seriously?" Gale survived despite this being her time to die. I mean COME ON the movie has been telling her that she is facing karma for profiting and CONTINUING to profit off of Ghostface.
This is why I would've preferred the Ghostface subreddit cult plot that was teased with Jason and Greg.
To me I felt like there was a lot of potential with Jason and Greg and potentially a cult from the subreddit group Richie and Amber were from to complete Richie's movie, especially since there was a True Crime feeling when it came to Jason. If they went with this direction, I honestly think Scream 6 would be more better received. Because instead of doing something different, they just redid Scream 2 and instead of a Nancy and Mickey, we have a family of idiots who couldn't kill anyone of importance. At least Nancy killed Randy.
And honestly? if they went with the Ghostface cult, the whole cut Gale dialogue of You’ve been in my life so fucking long,” she tells Ghostface. “I made you. And you made me.” After another beat, she says, “You want to try and finish this? Go ahead if you’ve got the guts.” SO much more better. If they went with that route for Scream 6, the perfect way to send Gale out. Dying with the cult and making sure Ghostface died with her. But no, she somehow survived and just made the entire family look incompetent(they are).
Bottom line is. Whatever they do in Scream 7 whether it be Stu returning as the mastermind behind the cult, Christina returning as the mastermind or one of the Core Four being in on it or anything new. There needs to be a blood bath.
There should be multiple opening kills to bring everyone back.
The babysitter to Sidney's kids, to draw out Sidney and Mark(and by extension Gale now that she knows that not even Sidney's kids are not safe)
Martha Meeks, to bring out Chad and Mindy
Mr Carpenter to bring out Sam and Tara
"This ends once and for all. No more books. No more movies. No more Stab. No more Ghostface. Whoever this is or whoever they are. This all ends tonight."
Chad or Mindy should die. Gale definitely needs to die. Danny is most likely a Ghostface and could die by Sam/Sidney's hand. Kirby, I love you but I don't mind you biting the dust or being apart of the cult(also STILL bitter she took Tara's kill) and if it were up to me the sole survivors should be Sidney and the Carpenter Twins.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag @sparklyslug 🖤
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
4
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
222,566 (lol at that fic to word count ratio)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Almost entirely Stranger Things, though I have worked on some OFMD and Shadow and Bone (tv) stuff that never saw the light of day.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I only have the 4 but by order of kudos most to least : we know where we're going any other way cabin fever swing for the fences
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! It sometimes takes me a little while, but I love comments so so much - they mean a whole lot and always completely make my day
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
None of mine have angsty endings, but I guess it would have to be we know where we're going based purely on the drama contained in the last chapter
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Definitely any other way, but swing for the fences will be up there too when it's finished
8. Do you get hate on fics?
It's never happened! Srsly thank fuck too cause I'd cry lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
You bet - it doesn't really fall into a specific type I guess, probably tends towards the romantic and soft? I try to make it realistic, with little things going wrong and laughter etc.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I've never written a crossover but I wouldn't be opposed - I think they're neat
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I hope not!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No but one of my best friends is my editor and she helps me so much with these fics it is insane, I seriously don't think any of them would have ever been fully finished much less posted if not for her
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I mean it's probably gotta be Steddie based purely on my own ridiculous behaviour about them. They're just so fun to shake around. But I've also always really loved Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in all their lovely forms (except for that one time 😒 but we won't talk about that)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Izzy/OC I started ages ago - rip
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel pretty comfortable with dialogue and describing physicality in general - love zooming in on little moments and making them a big deal for no reason
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am bad at big picture stuff; whether that be sticking to a planned length or just not adding a ton of extra little scenes that pop into my head as I'm writing. I think I have a tendency to muddy up my plot lines.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Gonna just repeat what @sparklyslug said here: I have no thoughts in particular. If it works in the fic and you've made sure your translation is right if you're not fluent in that language, hell yeah.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sherlock Holmes (arthur conan doyle version babyyyy)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh man I really don't know, I love them all in different ways! Probably just cause they're the most recent I'll say that I'm really happy with how cabin fever turned out but I think my fav might be swing for the fences cause it is just so so fun to write.

Dialogue Day
The prompt: Share a section of dialogue that we like from our own work. It can be funny, sad, ridiculous, mysterious, plot-centric or just characters shooting the breeze…anything. It can be from a WIP or a posted fic, short or long.
Thanks for tagging me @tyfinn and @jesuisici33 🥰
I like this bit from Everything's Too Cold... But You're So Hot
“David, seriously, step away from the window. The storm isn’t going to stop just because you’re standing there watching it. Come here, sit back down and tell me about yourself.”
“I know what you’re doing, and I won’t be distracted that easily,” David says, but walks back over to sit.
“Of course not, David. I wouldn’t dream of trying to manipulate you. I just wanted to help. So what do you want to do, since we have no power, no entertainment, limited phone life and we’re sitting in the dark.”
“Well, when you put it that way, I guess we can talk.”
“Good, because what other options do we have, right?” And as soon as he says it, he realizes there could be other options. He would like to explore other options. If he were braver. If this whole relationship wasn’t literally entirely made up.
“Well, if things were different…” David trails off, and Patrick wonders if he stopped because he lost his train of thought, imagining possible scenarios like he is, or if he just stopped himself from saying something out loud.
“How?”
“Hmm?”
“Different how?” He asks, hoping it’s the right question.
“Nothing, never mind.”
“Well, now I’m even more curious, David.”
“I was just going to say, there are other things we could do. In the dark. Things that don’t require electricity. But it was a joke, really. Only if things were different.”
Patrick is so grateful for the dark. His cheeks are burning, and his pale skin would have given him away so easily. “You still didn’t explain how,” he says, bravely. “How things would need to be different.”
David doesn’t speak for a full 10 seconds, but it feels like ages while Patrick waits. He needs to know what David is going to say. He wants to know what he’s thinking.
“Well, for one, you would need to be, um, not so obviously straight.”
Patrick laughs.
“Wait, why are you laughing? I know you played along with the bit, and I appreciate the openness to pretend to be in a relationship with a man, but. Patrick. Stop laughing, I don’t understand what’s funny.”
“David, I left home because I knew something was different about me and I needed to explore that, outside of my hometown. I’m gay,” he pauses, processing the fact that he just said out loud the thing he’d only just realized. “I think. That’s. That’s, um. The first time I’ve said it out loud.”
“Oh. Patrick. That’s, wow okay, I’m so sorry for assuming.”
“No, you’re right. I mean, until very recently even I thought I was straight,” he says, hoping David doesn’t ask how recently. Admitting that timeline would be the equivalent of admitting his instantaneous crush on David, and he’s not sure if he’s ready for that. At least maybe not without an escape plan. Not ideal while literally trapped by ice in a small room.
“Okay, so, you know that was a joke, right? I mean obviously, we can just talk.”

similar vibes to: archive 81, tma, and really any kind of large scale corporate conspiracy plot
contains
a genuinely Fantastic mystery
seriously the plot reveal was so good it blew me away
really fun dialogue! the dynamic between warren and gordon is so complex I love it
gordon porlock, secret warlock :)
personal highlights include a fucked up winnie the pooh, sonic the hedgehog discussion, a road trip episode, and just so much cussing it’s ridiculous
this is another personal highlight but waffles the tortoise deserves a separate bullet point. waffles the tortoise my beloved
without spoiling too much plot, if you like sci-fi you will be Fed
it’s a relatively short listen at the moment: 2 short series and a series of mini episodes that fill out the plot and add so much depth

Ranting ahead.
Sex Education S4 is pure shit, by the way. I’m so sad. It used to be one of my most fave shows but it became so… soulless and boring and cliche and performative. A massive cash-grab focusing too much on annoying, one dimensional characters (when will they give Cal a personality?). The portraits of people aren’t genuine anymore and instead have been replaced by “forced inclusion” - though I hate the term, as conservatives use it too broadly just to be homophobic.
I loved the “one case per episode” type of thing, and here it was completely left behind; the cases were either briefly shallowly explored (say, Viv’s abusive relationship), or with serious scenes shown as funny (the sex scene with Adam’s dad at the beginning of I-Don’t-Know-Which Episode was too… rapey? And we are supposed to just feel embarrassed for him or laugh it off).
Characterisation was more or less okay; I liked that they continued with Otis thing with sex, but there were some flaws too. For example, I don’t really think “Insufferable Feminist” Maeve would’ve continued pressuring Otis into sex once she realised something was wrong.
Side note: I’ve rooted for them since S1 E1, that ending, seriously? Ridiculous. I’m glad Maeve is pursuing her dreams etc, but the dualism of Dreams Vs Romance was already explored in S3, and, for the sake of having a cheesy happy ending like all people wanted, why not have him go to the USA too? His horrible dad could’ve tried to get him come with him for his whole book stuff, or as a fake apology. That would’ve been great for a scene where Otis’ MRA dad meets Riot Grrrl Maeve. It would’ve been funny. It could’ve given a message. And it would help characterisation of everyone involved. On top of that, it would be interesting to explore more Jean’s journey after being left, and definitely Otis’ abandonment issues. Could’ve also been cool to talk about mother’s rights and custody.
Joanna’s CSA trauma was thrown at you and never fully (guess the word!) explored either besides from implying hyper sexuality. I must admit I liked her, though. It was a nice addition - but too sudden. Seems like a desperate try at “Quick! How do we solve this plot hole!?”. Besides, the way they “well, that just happened” over Jean’s difficulty giving birth AND Joy’s dad identity??? Insane.
The whole subplot with Eric’s dreams were, at first, a shimmer of previous seasons’ whimsy, but then it became boring too. Eric’s character in general was done dirty this season, to be honest (he would not fucking wear that! Slay is dead). And his connection with religion has already been talked about till death. Please give my boy a hobby oh my God.
I missed the monster-fucker girl. She reminded me of one of my primary school friends.
Don’t even let me started on the new school thing itself. It was horrid. Like…. not even the clothes were safe from my hate.
Nevertheless there were some good scenes, like Maeve meeting Jean, or her and Otis’ first time. That was cute. The first episode was quite cool too. But all that felt somehow overshadowed by the stupid decisions - the episode about the Queer Party? That was pretty much ass. Not only performative, shallow, and with generic dialogue, but why was everyone making out all of a sudden? Romantic arcs and tension found dead. Now senseless fan service shipping only. Same goes for Aimee and Isaac, what the fuck was that, what happened to “straight men and straight women can be friends”? Too many useless romances for my taste. The pacing and editing were also disgusting in that episode.
Anyways, I was talking about the positive parts. There were a few more, but off the top of my head I liked when they protested for accessibility. I also liked when the teachers (I can’t remember their names! The english and music/biology couple) came back for Maeve’s mom’s funeral. That episode was nice, it felt accurate. I am glad Sean was back for that. Otis and Maeve dating was cute. It’s such a pity they were separated again. Also enjoyed that they talked about postpartum depression, even if a bit too in your face at times. Aimee and Adam were lovely as always. I liked how his dad is still working on himself. Ruby’s past and trauma was also a good subject. I love Ruby, even if Maeve is and will always be my girl. The thing with O was interesting! As well as the campaign. The humour was refreshing every now and then! I found it funny how Adam’s dad tried to bond with random stuff, and how, of all people, he thought he was gay for Clint Eastwood. And his gun. That chat, and how Adam’s mom later talks about “the girl with the long neck” were a nice detail.
So it really bothered me how this season definitely had a lot of potential that was wasted by such nonsensical decisions like all the ones I mentioned. Big glow down.
Tl;dr: Too Netflixesque to my tase.

opinions on blossutch,,, thoughts, headcanons, or maybe you hate it now idk.
This is going to be a long post because there are so, so, so, so many thoughts I have on Blossutch. I think about them, at least, once a day, to keep me sane.
Blossom has always been my favorite puff. There's something about A-Type characters and me, we just jam together. Butch, on the other hand, grew on me so freaking much when writing and expanding on what his character can be. He's a crackle of energy and lives in the moment and is kind of all over the place, but he just wants to make whatever he's doing fun for himself and those around him. The dude is observant and better at understanding people than you may think.
This is kind of where I like to find their balance. Butch brings a needed spontaneous nature into Blossom's by-the-books life. She helps him want to get organized, or at least, motivates him to figure shit out and have a direction to whatever he pleases. She thinks analytically, he thinks with emotions; they see both sides of things and learn together. Blossom, let's face it, is a perfectionist, it's her fatal flaw, but Butch is a person who's okay with failing and trying again. Seeing that from the person she admires dearly, eases her fears and it's what allows her to feel the most comfortable with Butch. Blossom is the one person who takes Butch seriously when no one has, and he's pretty sure she's the first person to ever turn to him for advice or acknowledge his intellect. He's loud and obnoxious and outgoing, he's absolutely ridiculous to be with, but he's also the person Blossom has laughed the hardest with and why she's more willing to put herself out there and open up to people. And with Blossom, Butch finds the beauty of what can be said in the silence.
As far as head canons:
Growing up, Blossom didn't think much of Butch other than twitchy ruff, and for Butch, she was girl Brick. They don't really interact beyond puff/ruff feuding and school bump-ins, until later in high school when they're assigned as lab partners and from it, a budding friendship into best friends that doesn't take a turn until their mid-twenties.
Blossom is the big spoon. Always.
They're the kind of couple whose favorite thing is just to be with each other. They could be waiting at the DMV for hours, or suffering from food poisoning, but if it's together, it was the best day. This also makes them the worst couple to invite places. Because if you invite one, you best believe the other will be there, and they kind of will do their own thing. This isn't a diss or intentional, it's just they have the most fun when with each other.
Shouldn't be surprising, but they are THAT couple when it comes to PDA. Butch is a touchy, puppy dog kind of a guy, and Blossom has come to understand and accept his need for physical touch. Besides, he's hot and she's allowed to make out with him whenever she so pleases.
They are terrible sleepers. Butch has too much energy to get more than two-three hours if he's lucky. Blossom, either overworks herself or her mind overthinks. This leads to them having a lot of late-night hang-outs/dates at the start of things, and when they do move in together, they find it a bit easier to sleep until an acceptable five to six hours.
They have the worst taste in media consumption. Their watchlist consists solely of whatever is ranked low on IMDb, and probably the reason that one shitty show you swear no one watches got renewed. The same goes for Blossom's choice in non-academic reading. Any of those terrible romantasy books you've heard about, she's torn through it with highlighted passages and colored sticky tabs on all the cringy dialogue/plot holes/questionable smut. She rants to Butch about them often, and sometimes, he'll quote something to see if she notices (primarily the spicy stuff). 97% of the time she catches it, and 3% of the time she's embarrassed a line worked on her.
Butch buys her flowers every other week just before the last bouquet is about to die.
Butch is and will always be ACAB, and he is strongly against any superhero organization. He gets Blossom and her sisters are genuinely trying to make a difference and help people, but superheroing sometimes involves collaborating with cops. Unless there's an attempt of assault or murder, Butch won't get involved even if it's happening right in front of them. This tends to be their biggest disagreement because Blossom understands his personal grievances and she agrees to a point with him, but she does wish he'd helped out when a robbery or monster attack derailed their date night.
Before they even got together, they were relationship people. Blossom's past ones were known to have at least a two-year minimum, and Butch had a hard time entertaining anything if he wasn't committed due to his quickness of boredom.
Blossom's humor is saltine-cracker dry and her jokes are often taken as rude because not a lot of people realize she's attempting a joke, they don't even think she's capable of telling one. But ask Butch, and he'll tell anyone willing to listen she's the funniest person he's ever met.
While I'm a color-crack shipper first, I do love other ships (brickercup, the blues, bubbles and/or boomer having a queer relationship with a normie), and I like to think of Blossutch as the constant. There has to be a time of wacky hijanks that lead to them and the others breaking into the multiverse later in life, and while their siblings are disgusted/perplexed by whoever is paired differently with them, Blossom and Butch are together in every alternative timeline they are shown.
Okay, okay. I think that's more than enough. Before I go, I wanted to say thank you for this ask. I've been putting off a Blossutch project I have planned for a summer release (hence why I think about them daily) and this definitely got the ol' brain working in the right direction. Hope this was something worth reading, lol.

While I enjoyed this underwater temple arc more than I usually enjoy any given arc in Black Clover, I still just cannot ignore or get over how poor the writing is. Even putting aside my general issues with the overarching plot and inconsistent themes and lack of worldbuilding, I am regularly disappointed with the writing of just, single scenes, featuring single characters even.
I've gone over this specific problem way back when Noelle was first introduced -- how her backstory was not only clumsily overdone, but pointlessly so. And this exact same thing keeps happening! This scene with Vanessa talking to and for her thread puppets would have been far more poignant without the lines of “You're all puppets I created with my magic. You're right, this whole conversation is just you talking to yourself. Hopefully you can find friends one day" beating the point into the ground by just bluntly stating exactly what she is doing and desires.
Anyone can look at the frame and know that they are puppets she made because they're made of thread, which we know is her magical ability -- why have them state “we're puppets made of your magic''? Why audibly confirm that she is talking to herself, why literally state that she has no friends and feels powerless? She's talking to self-made puppets in a giant bird cage for God's sake, we get it. Without any dialogue, we could have got it by just looking. I mean really. It is so unnecessary and robs the scene of any palpable emotion -- it actually ended up making me laugh because of how overexplained it was. I don't want to incredulously scoff at a sad backstory snippet, but the patronizing writing makes it hard to take seriously!
And then, almost immediately after this badly written backstory snippet, we get another one, this time for Finral.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And again, it comes off as ridiculous -- why would his father be compelled to remind him where he is living, who his family is, and what magic they specialize in? It's like the characters are speaking directly to the audience, it completely takes me out of the scene. Imagine if we just got to see Finral training and getting frustrated, and a mysterious figure who we can safely assume is his father is watching for a while, before dismissively turning away. Cut to Finral looking devastated. Imagine if we just got to see Vanessa weaving together her threaded dolls, smiling for a little while, asking them if they would speak to her mother for her. Her smile becomes sad, and the dolls unfurl, and she turns and looks to the window, maybe we hear her sigh.
The point of these scenes is to illustrate how these characters felt powerless or worthless in the past, and those feelings could have been illustrated so much more believably if there wasn't awful, overwrought dialogue telling us exactly what is happening to the point of feeling like a parody.
Fifty-two episodes later and my impressions from as early as episode seven are yet to be challenged by Black Clover: It still shows its cards at every opportunity, refusing to rely on audience participation and insight. It still actively robs itself of any potential intrigue.

Recently read: Squeaked out one more book to hit an even 100 for the year. I’ll do a full round-up of 2022′s books in a day or two, but on to my last weekly-ish summary!
I started One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston this summer and at the time, I didn’t feel like fully committing to it for some reason. Sophomore book jitters? Whatever it was, I was a stupid idiot and should always trust Casey because this was absolutely delightful. I don’t think I liked it as much as RWRB, but it such a different book that it’s really hard to compare the two besides the quirky and quip-heavy dialogue. Wish I’d be at home reading this instead of it being my on perpetual airport delay companion so I would’ve been able to properly process some of the more emotional beats. (★★★★)
The Other Side of the Sky was your standard YA sci-fi, which is what I’ve come to expect from Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. They reliably produce fun and interesting books, but Other Side wasn’t as good (or weird!) as some of their previous series. My college roommate sent me a bunch of her books, like, a year ago and this was in the pile, so I figured I should get started! (★★★)
Jen DeLuca’s Ren Faire books are such summer books, so I was bit bummed that Well Traveled was coming out in December. However, it was a nice little escape this week with the cold temps and snow! Well Traveled was more of a heroine-finding-herself story with a romance on side as compared to the three other books in the series; it’s a good read for times when you wanna relax and run off to join the circus. (★★★.75)
Ugh, I hate to end the year on such a bummer, but Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean was just not good. Pitched as The Princess Diaries meets Crazy Rich Asians, Tokyo just didn’t have the charm or development of the former and the ridiculous characters and sly humor of the latter. It read like the plots of the first five PD books were shoved into one book and stripped of everything fun; Izumi’s friend group wishes they had an iota of the personality of Lilly Moscovitz. Paper thin characters, a poorly developed romance (seriously, I said, “Wait, since when are we HERE?” when confessions of ~feelings started happening midway through), and pretty much no conflict made it a disappointing read all around. (★★)

Pokemon XY is kind of a mess actually: A longer than I wanted to write analysis of my impression of Pokemon XY so far
Okay, so this week our 20 in Review for Pokemon XY comes out and next week is our favorites list. So I decided I wanted to talk a bit about XY and the reasons I think it's not sparking joy for me. The reasons I've been able to pinpoint are the tone, the pacing, and the group dynamic.
The tone of XY from the first episode onward is fairly melodramatic. Dictionary.com defines Melodrama as "a dramatic form that does not observe the laws of cause and effect and that exaggerates emotion and emphasizes plot or action at the expense of characterization." And for me that encapsulates the style of XY as a series, at least so far. So many situations feel exaggerated in their seriousness in such a way that it's off-putting or laughable. I believe it was episode 3 in which Ash, Bonnie, and Clemont chase down Fletchling for stealing a berry meant for Dedenne. We learn more about Froakie and Ash catches a new Pokemon, but for all the fuss they made about the initial problem, they completely forgot about Dedenne. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but is off-putting when the show made it feel like a serious slight instead of the minor annoyance it was.
The tone also makes the jokes fall flat most of the time. This season has a pretty downbeat tone, so Pokemon's usual sense of humor, which is often over the top and exaggerated, feels out of place. The other major humor of the Pokemon series comes from the dialogue. And that often falls flat here too, probably because the humor of it is usually the characters reacting to a ridiculous situation. And because of XY's tone it's hard to be so silly. Honestly, they might have been better off going for a different type of humor altogether for XY.
The second issue in XY is an issue of pacing and, I'm going to be honest, wasting my time. The pacing of XY is just not very effective. For example, Serena and Rhyhorn racing. We're introduced to her being agitated with the sport her mother is trying to push on her. Then until she joins the party, we see her start up her journey. She finds Ash, as was her goal, and joins the party. The very next episode she comes to terms with the idea that she just misunderstood her mother and the Rhyhorn all of this time. Just like that without her having really faced any challenges, the issue is seemingly resolved. The same thing happens with Clemont and his gym.
And to be clear the issue isn't the way these issues were handled, but the complete lack of build up before just resolving them. These are both episodes we could have seen further down the line as a way of showing how our heroes have grown since the beginning of the show. So both fell flat in their execution because neither of the problems existed long enough to impact the characters's behavior. Well, I suppose Clemont's did, but that was more of a failure of exploration than anything.
And brings me to my final point, group dynamic and the characters in the group. To be completely transparent about my media preferences, for me, media is all about the characters. I care about their journeys, their relationships to each other, and how their actions affect the world around them. And this group just doesn't do any of that for me. In fact if I've gotten any details wrong in this post it's likely because I was bored to tears watching this show. The thing is I really want to like XY, I really want to like the characters, but I find it hard to be invested in them at all. And it took me a while to wrap my brain around the reason for that. I didn't quite know how to describe the blandness and lack of grit the characters have in a meaningful way.
First I wondered "are they too nice"? But that didn't make much sense. See I've been watching lots of Pokemon recently (the Original Series, Best Wishes, XY, Sun and Moon, and Journeys) and I can say that playful banter aside the series after the original aren't particularly mean, especially Sun and Moon, which has some of the nicest, good spirited kids to ever exist. If niceness was the problem then I'd feel a similar detachment.
So what was the problem?
The problem of XY lies in the group dynamic. I saw someone say recently that Ash as a character was written relatively the same from DP to XY with just minor adjustments. I found this thought a little jarring because I enjoy Ash in BW, but his vibe in XY is not nearly as entertaining. But if I look at him I do see that he's still the exact same person, he still mostly does Ash things except for the way he interacts with his companions. In the words of my younger sister who only watches Pokemon when we put it on while she's in the room "Ash doesn't seem like he even wants to be there. There's no reason he and I should feel the same way."
That is to say, far from the way he usually bounces off the energy of his companions, Ash barely interacts with the XY gang in meaningful ways at all. There are moments that happen in XY where you expect Ash to say something, anything, in response to his companions or their current situation and it's crickets. One example that really sticks in my brain is the episode where Meowth comes to the group for help. Clemont, Serena, and Bonnie all have things to say about the situation, but Ash… silence. Not even Pikachu expresses any opinion on the matter. Odd. When they have to get their faces scratched to stop themselves from being mind controlled and Serena's like "I don't want my face scratched up!" Silence. He doesn't try to encourage her, he doesn't get annoyed with her. He simply does not respond.
Ash Ketchum in any other season would have had some sort of reaction here. I could hear him going "Seriously?!" or insisting "It's not that bad" or even just having a facial expression of some sort.
And it isn't just him. The characters don't interact like a group of friends in general. They don't bounce off each other and react in ways that feel natural. There's no clash of personality traits. There's just flat comedy gags and conversations that just sort of move forward.
And I'd say that while the tone, pacing, and group dynamic brew a perfect mess, that the group dynamic is the part that really fails the series. A good set of characters that actually click is so important for a series like Pokemon. Pokemon spends a good chunk of screen time with the characters just wandering around and interacting with one off strangers on the way to their goals. The cast of characters has to be interesting enough to make that work. And maybe XY will pick up at some point and be more interesting, but having to wait more than twenty episodes for that is torture. I really do want to like XY, but for now it is my least favorite rendition of Pokemon.
