Holly Poly is, as the name implies, an exchange for polyamorous relationships. OT3s, OT4s, OT6s, orgies, open relationships, sedoretus, whatever strikes your fancy, as long as it involves three or more entities.

Participants are able to offer and request fanart, fanfiction, fanvids, podfic, fanmixes, gifsets and/or aesthetics/moodboards.

Dates: All times are 11:00am UTC, save for golive which will depend on when final pinch hits are posted. Apologies if the change of time causes any confusion; this change was necessary since the previous time used for deadlines did not work well for the mods' mix of timezones last year. We will make sure to update this post with links to countdown timers once they are applicable, so that people can check on those to see how long is left before the next deadline. 17-24 October: Nominations are open 31 October-11 November: Signups are open 17 November: Assignments will be sent out no later than this date. So how about an AU where Nicholas was still trained by Coach Joe, but never applied to King's Row, never got offered the scholarship - maybe he still fenced at Regionals and got his ass handed to him, but let's say it was by someone other than Seiji Katayama. (Maybe it was Kyle, lol).

Fast forward a few months and Aiden decides to slum it by hooking up with the cute guy bussing tables at the local café*. Which leads to...

"Hi - can I help you?" Harvard asked the scruffy guy hanging around outside the fencing salle.

The guy looked up, hands still shoved in his pockets, and his eyes widened - Harvard guessed the fencing whites did make for a bit of an imposing first impression, though he'd taken his helmet off at least. This guy didn't look like he'd met a comb in his life, and there was a recent bruise lingering around his jaw.

Still, the stranger quickly got over his surprise and brightened with a smile. "Oh, I'm looking for Aiden? He said to meet him here."

Harvard sighed inwardly, but not outwardly, because he was in Captain Mode and also because Aiden pulled this shit far too often for him to react any more. "He asked you to meet him here right now? At this time?"

The guy cast around, and Harvard realised he was looking for a clock when he pulled a scuffed flip phone out of his pocket to check the time. "Yeah, well technically five minutes ago. I took a wrong turn."

Harvard pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Did I... do something wrong?" the stranger ventured uncertainly.

Harvard breathed out and pasted on a smile. "No, no, you didn't. It's just that Aiden's a member of our fencing team, and he's supposed to be coming to practice right now but he's clearly planning to blow it off with you."

"Oh," Aiden's hookup (was that uncharitable? No, Aiden never met up with random guys except to hook up) replied. Harvard was expecting an awkward laugh or a grimace, or an excuse but instead the guy said, "Why would he do that? Fencing's great. And it looks like you guys have a really nice facility."

Harvard realised he was still standing in the open doorway with the fencing salle visible behind him. The other occupants were carrying on with drills under Coach's eagle eye, but the new reserve, Eugene, was throwing some curious glances in their direction.

Aiden still wasn't anywhere in sight (that was nothing new; he was late to everything, including hookups) and Harvard felt bad about telling the guy to go away. Especially since, ironically, he was taking more of an interest in fencing than Aiden had so far this year. Except when it let him rile up Seiji, their incredibly talented but uptight new team member.

"Do you... fence?" Harvard asked Aiden's hookup.

The guy scratched his head a little sheepishly. "I mean, not anywhere like this. I've been learning for a few months, though. Fencing's-"

Whatever fencing was (although judging by the light in this random guy's eyes, it was positive), Harvard never got to find out.

"Nico!" cried a voice, and both of them turned to take in Aiden striding along the hallway, his golden hair gleaming. He was not, of course, wearing his fencing uniform, but was dressed in dark skinny jeans and a collared shirt unbuttoned to his mid-chest. Aiden's hookup (Nico?) stared for a few moments, but he didn't seem as struck by the vision that was Aiden as most of the flings (and there had been... a lot) of Aiden's that Harvard had met. Instead, he turned back to look longingly again at the salle.

Huh.

"I'm ready to go now," Aiden said, draping an arm not around his fling's neck, but around Harvard's. "Hey, how are the new team members shaping up?"

Harvard directed his best uncompromising look in Aiden's direction. "You'd know if you came to practice."

"I'll be there next time, I promise," said Aiden, and he did such a good job of making it sound sincere. "But I have to keep the new recruits on their toes! You know it works."

It did, sort of, but Harvard wasn't sure that the benefits of having Aiden occasionally showing up to school overconfident newcomers (and oldcomers) were worth the terrible optics of his constant absence from everything. That, and he knew that Aiden showed up because it suited him, not to help anyone else in the team.

"Shall we?" Aiden said to probably-not-Nico, who roused himself from a daze. Harvard made a snap decision.

"No. Aiden, you're a part of the team, and that means you're coming to practice," he said, using the more authoritative tone he saved for when the team needed keeping in line (but rarely bothered to use on Aiden, who was impossible to keep in line).

Aiden stared at him, his cheeks faintly pink. Harvard was surprised at the display of self-consciousness from Aiden, but maybe he was having a moment. "Go and get changed."

"Uh, so should I-" the other guy asked, jerking his thumb over his shoulder.

Harvard turned to him. "What's your name?" he asked, justifiably sceptical about whether Aiden had got it right.

"Nicholas. Nicholas Cox," replied definitely-not-Nico, standing straighter. He held out a hand for Harvard to shake.

Harvard took it. "How would you like to come and spectate?"

LADYBUG and CHAT NOIR are always sniping at each other - might even be an Enemies AU. MARINETTE does understand that CHAT NOIR is working under mitigated circumstances and does want to help him. ADRIEN is deeply attracted to LADYBUG, which makes perfect sense if you understand QUADRANT VACCILATION. LADYBUG is in love with ADRIEN. MARINETTE might like him just as much, but ADRIEN is too busy trying to get MARINETTE and CHLOÉ to get along to notice.

Betaed by iberiandoctor With an old-school fandom, I figured why not go for an old-school format?

Fic wittering and explanation of a sedoretu behind the read-more.

sedoretuex has revealed, and I can now reveal that I wrote TWO stories! (I have not yet had time to read any stories but my own--I have been really busy this January--but I am planning on making my way through the collection soon.)

My second story for this exchange was a pinch hit for tielan that I had been eyeing for treat purposes since the beginning, because our tastes are very similar and every one of her ideas was amazing and absolutely a story I wanted to exist. But there was a problem! Each one of those stories, my feeling was "I want that to exist, but I don't know if I can do justice to it."

Here were my main options:

1) Relationship and prompt I have written for tielan before (MCU, Steve/Maria/Natasha/Bucky, the previous fic being Look Clear and Calm)

2) Really interesting relationship and prompt from a TV show I've only seen sporadic episodes of (Simon Basset/Anthony Bridgerton/Daphne Bridgerton/Kate Sharma (Bridgerton TV), The oldest son and oldest daughter of the Bridgerton family finding and settling on a sedoretu husband and wife for their familial quartet. In the middle of the season. With the ton looking on.)

3) Relationship I requested myself and would really like to se done, but I requested it because I'm not sure of my ability to write it and the canon is a TV show I haven't watched in almost 2 decades. (BSG, Lee/Kara/Sam/Dee)

4) Relationship I already wrote for this ficathon for my original assignment. (Star Wars Legends, Luke/Mara/Leia/Han, the other fic being Dawning Understanding)

And these were just the top four. There were 13 requested quartets and I could have written 10 of them! I was spoiled for choice! Honestly, it was a little bit paralyzing.

But in the end, I went with BSG, and decided that Wikipedia would have to be enough canon review. And it really did write itself; everything poured out. As always, for me, Dee was going to have a major role and survive; I love her and she was done so dirty by canon. Her death was the first time I got incandescently angry about a fridging because I could see it for what it was. And of the relationships in this foursome, Lee/Kara is my least favorite. (I am glad that in Kara we got to have a female character who was fucked up and messy and not punished for it or considered 'whiny,' but at the same time, there were a lot of other fucked up and messy female characters on that show, and a lot of the other character arcs interested me more than 'cosmic destiny + will she and Lee ever get their act together.' But I know that Lee/Kara is tielan's favorite! So as I was plotting out each section I had to restrain myself: how much Dee was too much? What could I find to say about the other three? Because if I was writing it for myself, the balance would have been very different. (But I think it would have been a weaker story, less balanced.)

A sedoretu is a specific organization of a poly marriage created by Ursula K. Le Guin in her short story "A Fisherman of the Inland Sea" aka "Another Story" available in a 1994 short story collection of the same name. It includes four people and specific arrangements of the relationships inside it. All people have a "moiety" that is considered as inherent as gender; the two moieties are Morning and Evening. Sex with someone of the same moiety is considered incest. The expected relationships within each sedoretu are: The Morning woman and the Evening man (the “Morning marriage”) The Evening woman and the Morning man (the “Evening marriage”) The Morning woman and the Evening woman (the “Day marriage”) The Morning man and the Evening man (the “Night marriage”) (i.e. two homosexual and two heterosexual pairings)
