On October 4, at about 2:20pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), FEMA is doing an emergency alert test. This means that all phones, regardless of if they have been placed in do not disturb will go off with that beeping noise. If you have a secret backup phone that you need the people you're with to not know you have, set a reminder to turn it all the way off.

For apple phones, this means holding the power button for five seconds and swiping the "power off" switch that shows up on the screen. Same with androids and early google pixels, except you'll be tapping a button. For google pixels 6 and later, you'll hold the power button and the volume up button at the same time. To turn on for all phones, you'll hit the power button and wait a sec.

Remember that the alert will still come through when you turn your phone back on, so make sure that you are in a place where that noise is safe.

Note that, for whatever reason, if they can't put out the alert, the backup test date is October 11th.

One of the most irritating momentum-killing faux-concerns from people when it comes to conflict is the hand-wringing about “if we (you) ___ then people will be hurt/die/etc” as a reason to not engage in meaningful resistance use violence as a tool.

‘If there is a revolution people will die’, ‘if we riot people will get hurt,’ ‘if you resist you will get hurt’ ‘if you fight back, people will die.’

People are already dying, people are already being hurt. I understand the fear of injury in the face of chaos but I need you to understand the horror of brutality carried out calmly.

Acts of solidarity are survival. Acts of solidarity are coalition building. In some ways it can be liberating. But it is not total liberation.

Jeez Louise. It's funny when it's happening to me, but it was a damned nuisance and much more dangerous when it was happening to my 80-yr-old father after his dementia started. I think the only thing that saved him was he stopped being able to operate his computer at all, so he'd have me turn it on for him and check email, etc. with him.

PHONE ALERT TEST

If you live in the US, tomorrow (October 4th) between 2:20 and 2:50pm EST, the Emergency Alert System will be tested.

If you have a phone: Power it on! It'll probably scare the bejesus out of you, but it's good to know it's working and therefore if something awful happens you'll be able to be notified. It'll trigger a loud alert sound accompanied by a text that tells you not to worry about it.

IF YOU MAINTAIN A SECRET PHONE for any safety reason TURN IT OFF. As it will also make a screeching alert and anyone will be able to hear it.

I nearly got robbed.

This is not art related but I just nearly got robbed for $160 today, and this ain't letting me sleep. It's currently 12:21 am here in the Philippines. And I just wanted to rant this out because it's too much for me to even handle.

I am just a small freelancer who wants to earn even just a little bit for myself and for my future needs. And getting nearly robbed isn't on my list. Every people who do commissions have one fear in common and that is getting scammed. And I nearly became a victim. Using a fake email account PayPal and trying to ask me for a refund. I am not all that familiar with PayPal since I use GCash but through this experience, I just became afraid of doing commissions internationally...

This so called client requested a pose, two of their oc to be drawn with detailed, backgrounds, outfits and in full body as well! I was overwhelmed by it. I did it without thinking of how much will the customer will pay since I love to draw and improve my art, so I said yes. Because I wanted to challenge myself. To be better at drawing. But only to be nearly robbed? I asked the client today to pay half of the price which is $50 but to my surprise they paid $100 the total payment my original price was $110, but I cut it off since they were asking me nicely to do so.

Once they said that they sent it I checked immediately to confirm but none. I had zero balance, so I panicked thinking maybe its because of me, that its my fault. But it's not. I am currently in devastation, panicking then one of my friends pointed out that I need to check my email, and so I did. And there it is an email requesting for my so called client to pay at least $150 to make my account a business one to expand the limits of my account. Since I wasn't familiar at PayPal I asked my discord friends @yril-writes to this and they pointed out to check and keep on messaging the client so I did. I shared my screen to my friend because I was getting worried then they pointed out that they are to suspicious even sending various of emails trying to force me to send $150 but the emails didn't work, but the last email did. I was panicking and so I asked the client what will happened if I sent the money how will I receive a receipt and confirm to PayPal to send me my money.

But they didn't reply. Instead they opened another account in Twitter to send me a message. Until my friend Yril told me to go look for the email and take a look at the sender. Only to see that it was a fake PayPal account. I immediately bursts into tears. Because I nearly sent the money because I wasn't even giving a damn to the money I will receive but I was genuinely worried the client would think that I robbed them. I am currently comforting myself, trying to lift my spirit up but I just feel stupid. I've been crying for almost two hours now. I am glad I trusted my instincts and my friend Yril...
