— this is so chaotic, messy, and so many mistkaes can be seen/were made and I absolutely hate this chapter

— akaashi keiji is suspicious of Library Man's intentions since day one (1), he really wants to know why he left [y/n] that day,, but since he doesn't know what Library Man looks like (nor his name), he'll just have to wait until [y/n] tells them why, if she'll ever find out that is.

— yachi hitoka was kind of sad that keiji found out the news about [y/n]'s aunt before she did.

— kenma, yachi, and shoyo ships Library Man & [y/n]. tsukishima too, actually—but he doesn't want to admit it.

— [y/n] doesn't like asking other's for help and she regrets telling the others her plan about staying at the café (working) while doing her school works.

— when reading the texts part do not rely on the profile picture's but instead rely ony the names given to find out who really is the one texting.

— i forgot to say this but the dates do not matter and does not align with the story,, but the time does align with the story so yeah 👍

WIDE EYES AND OPEN MOUTH, you looked back at him again only to find him already looking back at you. An expression that was a mixture of a small smile with a slight crease of his brow rested on his face. He lifted his right hand and fisted it, bringing it to his chest as he rotated it counter-clockwise.

“I'm sorry,” He Signed.

You were baffled. Absolutely baffled. You're pretty sure your mouth was agape as you stared at him. But you can't help but do so, you can't seem to wrap your head around it. Did he just. . . speak Sign Language? Or were you just imagining it? No, he definitely spoke in Sign Language. Then why did he leave when you Signed to him back then?

The corner of his mouth tugged up slightly while one of his brows was raised up, his hand now resting on his lap. You were confused and you had no clue what to do. You fought the urge to grab your phone and type a message to your friends and ask them what to do. You were a grown-up, you can handle this. Yeah. Right. . .

You cleared your throat, but you were sure he didn't hear you doing so and shifted your gaze down at the sticky note. It's still there (obviously) as if it was taunting you, telling you to say SOMETHING, ANYTHING, but your mind was going to flight mode. Like you seriously want to run away from this situation. But you know that'd be rude. But you're nervous, your clothes feeling way hotter on your skin than they should be. Maybe wearing these clothes really was a mistake.

You looked back at him again, his body leaning a bit forward as if he was waiting—expecting you to say (or Sign) something. You can do that, it's easy to Sign. Having Apraxia for years now meant that you've mastered Sign Language. You could say something back to him, but you couldn't. You just wanted to run away. Why is this situation much harder than it should be?

Should this even be this hard? Or were you just being dramatic? If a normal person were in your shoes, would they freak out as well? Having Apraxia—or the difficulty of speaking due to brain damage—means that talking is hard. Very hard. Your mind is forming sentences, words—and you just simply want to talk but you can't. It's an everyday struggle. Living a life where talking is normal and yet you can't even do something as simple as that is frustrating. You just wish you could talk.

You were snapped out of your gaze when Library Man™ cleared his throat. You raised a brow at him—involuntary—and he did the same thing back to you. Oh, right. He said he was sorry. About what again? For leaving when you told him you can't speak and that you're half deaf? Or for ignoring you a few days back when you were expecting him to say he is sorry? Or maybe both?

If he's saying sorry for either of those speculations then that means he is aware of his actions. Which means, he didn't intend to do it. This means he has a different intention. But what could it be? Oh, gosh. Are you reading too much about this situation? Maybe. But you can't help but do so. It's not every day a man whom you have a teeny tiny crush on suddenly walks up to you, walks away when you told them you have a disorder, does not say they are sorry for a while, but then they, oh, so suddenly says sorry. Oh, and you find out they can speak Sign Language too.

Library Man™ was still waiting, patiently waiting at that. Well, you guess that's nice. A sign of sympathy towards you because your brain is going in shambles is appreciated. It looks like there's something he wants to tell you, and you wish he'd Sign what it was. He was pretty attractive when he Signed the words “I'm sorry” a while ago. Was that weird? Or maybe you're just biased towards him. Although how could you not? Library Man™ was a sculpted piece of art. Though the word Art doesn't even explain his features as Library Man™ is a complete masterpiece.

It was only then you noticed the small, silver bracelet with a small cat charm attached to it. He really is fond of cats. Well, that's cute. And he is cute too. His gray (probably dyed) hair was parted in the middle, hair gel keeping it in place. And oh, how badly you wanted to have the sweater he was wearing, it's a sweater from one of your favorite brands. And how did you know that? Because you have the exact same one, just a different color—oh, wait. Did you. . . just check him out? Oh, my gosh, yes, you did just check him out. That is so embarrassing.

You snapped out of your ogling and decided to finally say / Sign something back, but as you were about to do so you felt a slight vibration near your hand, someone was calling you. A lifesaver, to be honest. With a slight jump due to the unexpected call, you looked at the caller ID and declined it. Since you can't speak and hear well, you obviously can't answer calls. Turning your body upfront, you opened the messaging app and read the text.

With wide eyes, you quickly typed back a response. Abruptly standing up you packed your things in a hurry, startling the man two seats away from you and making him stand up as well. You were glancing at him from time to time as you packed your things. His mouth was bitten down by his teeth, eyebrows creased down, and one hand slightly raised up. He wants to say something. (Well, that was only based on his body language.) But what? Oh, well. You have no time to think about that.

After finishing packing up your things, you looked at Library Man™ and it was only then you noticed that he was standing beside you now. When did he. . . ? Remembering you literally have an emergency to get to you turned around and slipped on your bag, your phone in your hand as you typed back a message to the person you're talking to. After doing so, you smiled weakly at Library Man™ and Signed, “Hi, I am so sorry but I have to go now. I kind of have something to do.”

You didn't have the time to wait for his answer, so you did the most logical thing to do. You left.

F U N F A C T S :

— [Y/N] doesn't know whether to be mad, annoyed, or to feel what because of Osamu knowing sign language. (it isn't that big of a deal but the fact he knows sign language and left her when she told him she's H.O.H. confuses her)

— Kuroo was debating really hard whether to tell [Y/N] that her aunt fainted or not.

— [Y/N] worries a lot about the people she loves and cares about.

— Kuroo brings churros to [Y/N] whenever they meet. it all started when [Y/N] said Kuroo's name sounds similar to the word churros and she said that it'd be funny if Kuroo would bring her churros whenever they meet. it was meant to be a joke, but Kuroo took it seriously ;-;

— a dot at the end of [Y/N]'s sentences means she's fucking serious and that you shouldn't mess with her.

OASIS ⊹ AKAASHI KEIJI

⊹ reverse comfort, slight angst, smoking, gn!reader.

“can't sleep?”

your words bring him out of his solemn trance. the summer air blows against your face, the dewiness of it all sticking to your skin.

you knew exactly where to find him — the balcony of your one-bedroom apartment was his sanctuary on nights like these. a cigarette dangled from his lips, and the smoke curled up into the hazy sky.

“yeah. something like that,” keiji inhales, letting the nicotine bring him a feeling of pure serenity, or maybe it’s because you’re here. he turns his face away from you, blowing smoke from his pretty pink lips.

the taste of guilt and discontent sits on his tongue. it's 3:46 am, and it's windy outside, yet you stand beside him wearing thin pajamas and the gentlest of smiles on your face.

"was the room too cold? i would've turned the AC off if you wanted," you ask, a pout making its way to your lips because you'd make the room chillier than usual so your boyfriend would huddle closer (of course, he knew about your antics).

he shakes his head with a laugh that's soft, and feather-light, and music to your ears.

"no, no. nothing like that. i was just thinking." and you knew this. you knew keiji's mind like the back of your hand. because even though he didn't voice his thoughts, concerns, and desires often, he frequently confided in you on this very balcony as the heat enveloped you two.

keiji worries.

he worries about his future, your future, his relationships, his regrets, missed opportunities, potential ones. he still thinks about the time he missed bokuto's game years ago because he had to catch up on work, the time his father told him he could've chosen a better career, the time he questioned whether or not he deserved someone as sweet as you in his life.

and like always, you pull him from his thoughts with the dance of your fingers along his forearm. you trace the birthmarks across his skin, mapping each one out like a constellation.

“you love me so much, don’t you?”

“that’s such a weird question," you snort. "of course i do.” and even though his question is a bit odd, it's one that he asks often, albeit in a variety of ways. ("you're happy with me, right?" to which you always respond with "of course i am." and those four words are enough to relieve keiji of his plaguing worries).

“you always take care of me even though i barely have time to see you,” he continues.

"you always make time for me," you remind him. you rub your hand up and down his arm, hoping that your words make it through to his head. he's never been good at accepting reassurance, but he tries.

"i try to, i really do. i'm sorry if it isn't enough," he says, looking at you with tired eyes.

"i know you do, baby. look, we're together now, aren't we? it's nice to look at something other than your pile of work," you look straight at the sky. stars litter the cerulean space like the faint freckles on keiji's lower back. and when he looks down at your lips, he's relieved that your smile still remains.

he sighs a breathy laugh, puts out his cigarette, and pops a mint into his mouth like he always does.

keiji pulls you towards him and takes the hand that was soothing his skin just seconds ago, placing a kiss to your knuckles — a silent 'thank you' that you've become accustomed to.

you take his weary face into your hands and press a kiss to his lips. this balcony was his sanctuary, but your lips were his oasis. and so, without a second thought, he dips his lips deeper into yours, letting them linger against yours as your breath picks up in your chest.

“come on, let's go to bed,” you tell him, your chest rising and falling from the heated kiss.

and even though it’s 3:59 am, and you can hear some birds chirping, you take his hand into yours and lead him to the bedroom. his clothes smell like cigarette smoke and detergent, a scent that gives you the comfort of his presence.

he lets you pull his clothes off his body, he lets you discard them on the wooden floor beneath the bed, he lets you kiss along his collarbones and chest before he's finally pulling you under the cotton sheets with him. he holds you as close as possible — begging the sun to stay hidden for a while — so he can revel in the safety of your lips and the shelter of your breathy 'i love you's'.

Appearance

Similar to her older brother, Daina is born with black hair and sharp blue eyes that are covered with long lashes. She is described as a girl with unbeatable beauty and charming aura. She usually ties her hair up into a high ponytail or twin tails during club activities whilst leaving her fringe to flow in front of her forehead. During normal school hours, Daina will leave her hair free. Aside from her looks, Daina’s most notable feature is her height, having been tall since young and still growing in high school. Due to having been active and athletic, Daina’s body is quite toned, but she still managed to maintain the typical desired figure because of her foster sister, Miwa, and her relative, Suzue.

Because of her intensive training, Daina has several scars on her legs that she had grown insecure about. This resulted in her wearing covering her legs even at home, even in the summers. She wears reading glasses at home, and contact lenses in school and during training. If she stays up too late the previous night, she will go to school in her spectacles as well and will promptly change into her contact lenses, which acts as a digital device for her AI butler as well.

Overall, Daina's physical appearance is very captivating and attractive to many people around her, having been described as having a deadly beauty that seemed out of this world and every tiny gesture will gain onlookers to stare.

Personality

Although Daina doesn’t look as stoic compared to her siblings, she is still known to be hard to approach due to how intimidating her height and looks are amongst her peers. She isn't the most outgoing or lenient individual. Because of her strict attitude and harsh disciplinary ways when it came to volleyball and inflexible when it came to training schedules, she was given the nickname “Wooden Ruler” in middle school. However, those brave enough to approach her will soon learn that she was actually kind and easy to converse as she doesn't get offended by much.

Daina is also a very observant person, being able to discern even Tobio, despite his lack of social and communication skills. Because of this, she is able to prick others with her words, knowing exactly what to say to get under their skin. Daina’s ability to use her words to get to people was one of the reasons she was chosen to be her middle school volleyball team captain.

Daina is also a very doting sister, and would spoil Tobio since young, and in turn, getting doted on by Miwa, despite not being blood related. Although not outwardly forward with praises, Daina spare no chances to compliment Tobio in order to boost his confidence and self-esteem when need be. After the incident in middle school, Daina would also scold her brother if he was getting too hard to get along as she didn't want Tobio to repeat the situation that traumatized him.

She also cares for her schoolmates and friends, wanting the best for them. If there is any conflict, she always tries to intervene and will personally seek them in private to comfort them to reduce misunderstanding and miscommunication.

However, Daina is capable of being heartless to those that wronged her or her loved ones, easily cutting them out of her life. As long as someone gets out of line in her eyes, she isn't afraid to call them out. She isn't particularly fond of people who had once crossed her, and will stop at nothing to make them uncomfortable.

Relationships

With Daisuke, Daina is very much obedient and would check up on him regularly. Although they did not grow up together after a certain age, they still keep in close contact and isn’t awkward with one another when they meet face to face during rare visits. Daisuke regularly sends souvenirs to Daina, even some famous volleyball player's autographs as well. He also sends gifts to the Kageyamas as a thank you for taking care of his sister. Daina is also worried about Daisuke's feeling of emptiness but is unsure of what to do as she felt a little empty as well.

Daina shares a close relationship with Suzue, and often update each other on their daily life. Suzue is also known to be Daina’s biggest fan when it came to volleyball, and will be very extravagant in showing her support, sometimes bringing a whole custom banner, much to Daina’s silent embarrassment.

Kikuko and Daina seem to cares for each other, and the former will visit Miyagi once a month to check up on Daina and the Kageyamas. She was also the one who fork out funds for to cover for Kageyama Kazuyo's funeral.

Daina and the Kageyamas share a good relationship, having took her in and looked after when she was still in elementary school. She is especially close with Tobio, since they are both closer in age and share a common love for volleyball. Many mistaken Daina as a Kageyama due to having the same black hair and blue eyes, but they never deny it because they truly saw Daina as part of their family.

With the Karasuno boy's team, Daina cares for them deeply and believes that they are capable of winning every match. With the girl's team, Daina has stopped communication with most of them aside from their ace and captain.

Daina is known for her agility and powerful spikes since middle school, and was prospected to become one of the top female volleyball players in Japan. She is described to be a high-calibre player and has a good grasp on all basics for every position on the court. Similarly to Tobio, Daina is able to play all positions, including setter and middle blocker, but she only played Wing Spiker and Libero in official matches. Daina is not picky about the position she is assigned, and understands that every position is needed to win and plays her best. When in middle school, her coach decided to switch her to play wing spiker and honed her to be the team's ace. Because of this, these two positions became what Daina is known for in the media.

Skills

Spiking: Having been playing volleyball and practising as a Wing Spiker, Daina's spiking is accurate and mostly difficult to dig for most people by the time she begins to play as a starter member in middle school matches. She is most well known for her line shot, but is able to perform a cross spike, although she rarely uses it. As a first year in Karasuno, Daina is considered to have the deadliest spike amongst her teammates, even out beating the Ace. She is also the only one who was able to spike Tobio's “King Toss”, making her the first person to be able to keep up with her brother.

Digs/Receives: As a libero in her elementary team, Daina was praised for solid receives that she has been polishing them for years. Because of her quick respond time and agility, she is able to make quick saves and increase her team's defence even during high tension. Daina has saved multiple impossible spike as both a libero and wing spiker, and was awarded to be the best female spiker in Miyagi for her last tournament match in middle school.

Jump Serves: Daina's jump serve was taught by her coach. She practices it with Tooru and old coach Ukai occasionally, thus becoming a powerful asset in her routine. She has scored multiple service ace with her serves, giving her team a head start and gain momentum. Furthermore, she is said to have an aggressive serves that acts like a spike in order to gain a guarantee score

Endurance: Although Daina's stamina isn't the best in the beginning, she would purposely prolong a rally in order to tire her opponents if she needed to. As the captain, Daina is able to move her players accordingly to her rally play in order to reduce stamina wastage amongst her players whilst forcing the other team to scurry. This strategy isn't usually used due to how strenuous it can get, but it is something Daina is able to pull off without needing her coach to assist.

Court Awareness: Daina is very visually aware of her surroundings most of the time. As a libero, Daina makes sure to stay out of her spikers' ways and will always reposition herself for the next incoming attack. Even after playing as a Wing Spiker, she is still able to retain her acute awareness and maintain a wide visual range for the sake of her spikes and blocks. She has high concentration and focuses on her court from the start till the end of every game.

Synopsis

The first matriarch of the Kambe clan had long been sort after by many for her beauty, wealth, and connections. But with greed and power hungry officials lingering, the Kambe heir’s life was ripped apart far too soon from this earth, leaving behind her concubines to mourn for their lost loved one.
