Whumptober day 24- alternate prompt, aftermath of a failure
Revali and Zelda are a criminally underrated duo that I had to write something for them. As much as I hate the idea of this Zelda being a fighter in any way, she DOES fight with the bow of light in AOC, and I thought it’d be cool if she asked Revali for help since he’s a master archer. This isn’t written very well or very interestingly but whatever it’s fine. Another super short one, but don’t worry, tomorrow will be very long lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Revali watched unamused as the princess of Hyrule struggled against the bow, pulling it back as hard as she could, only for it to barely go a few feet when fired. Zelda let out a frustrated huff as she went to collect her fallen arrows, glumly gathering them in her hands.
“Alright, let’s try again,” he said as Zelda returned to her spot. She gave a defeated sigh and tried again, straining as she pulled the bow back. She released it and it didn’t reach the target. Revali waited for her to try again, but she instead walked away, sitting on a log. Revali looked at her in surprise, and he wandered over to where she sat.
“What are you doing?” He asked, and she shrugged.
“I— I need a break,” she huffed, clutching the bow in her hands. Revali let out a sigh and joined her on the log.
“I know you’re not tired, not physically anyways,” he muttered, and Zelda stiffened. “I know it’s frustrating, but you need to accept that you’re not gonna be good at it immediately. You’re gonna fail.”
Zelda shook her head. “I don’t have time to fail. I’ve just awakened my power, with the bow of light, I can be strong enough to save Hyrule from the calamity. But,” she angrily put her bow down, resting on her head in her hands, “I’m not good enough. I never am.”
Revali scoffed. “Goddesses Zelda, will you ever give yourself a break? You’re asking yourself to do the impossible! Sure you have the goddesses' blood in you, but you’re still a person!”
Zelda shriveled up, not looking at him. He sighed and got up, grabbing his own bow and arrow.
“Your form is sloppy, maybe it’s making it harder for you. Watch me.” Revali aimed for the target and hit the center with ease. He couldn’t help but feel pride with how quickly he did it, but he returned his attention to Zelda, who was watching him solemnly. “Stand up straight, have the arrow line up with your elbow, and don’t be afraid to pull as hard as you can. These bows are built for this. It won’t break.”
Zelda didn’t say anything, and she watched as Revali set his bow down, and invited her to try again. She didn’t move.
“C’mon your highness, you wanted me to teach you archery, I need you to listen to me.”
Zelda looked down. “You make it look so easy.”
Revali paused, then shook his head. “Yeah, I do make it look easy. You want to know why? Because I’ve been training in archery for fifteen years. I’ve worked harder than any other Rito so that I could be the best. It’s almost second nature to me.” He walked up to Zelda and grabbed her bow. “How can you expect yourself to have fifteen years of experience in just a couple of days?”
Zelda shrugged, so Revali continued.
“You won’t. It’s a harsh reality but you won’t.” Revali handed the bow back to her, his gaze softening. “But it doesn’t hurt to try now. You may not be good now, but you will get better. I know it.”
“You…” Zelda pursed her lips. “You really believe in me?”
“Tch, I always have. Come on.”
Zelda smiled slightly, resting her hand on her bow. “I’ll never be as good as you.”
Revali hummed. “No, you won’t. No one will ever be as good as me.” He let go of her bow when she held it and he leaned forward, a teasing smile on his beak. “But I think you could be as good as Link, maybe even better.”
Zelda stared at him in shock, then started giggling. He smirked and stepped back as she laughed, chuckling quietly to himself. She had a contagious laugh he had to admit.
“Alright Zelda,” he said when she slowed down, “let’s try a few more times, then we can continue training tomorrow. We don't want you to overwork yourself, ok?”
Zelda nodded and got up, holding her bow reluctantly. She got into position and pulled the string back, and Revali walked over to her, deciding to be more active as a teacher. He studied her form, helped her pull the string back further, and then told her to release. She hit the outside of the target, not making it inside the target itself, but it was a major improvement from the last few times. Revali felt pride swell within him as Zelda cheered over her accomplishment.
“I hit it! I hit it!” She shouted excitedly. Revali chuckled.
“That’s one step in the right direction, princess. Good job,” Revali gave her a nod of approval. She beamed and grabbed another arrow.
“Let me try again,” she said quickly, and got in position, pulling the string back. “How do I look?” She called out in a strained voice, and Revali studied her.
“You’re good.”
The arrow was let loose, and that afternoon was full of arrows hitting and missing the target, but everytime Zelda was getting closer and better. Eventually, Revali had to pull her away so she wouldn’t overwork her arms, and he had her do some stretches to help with soreness. Zelda was much more motivated though, and she was excited to work on it again tomorrow. Though she wouldn’t be a master archer by the end of this battle, it was good that she believed in herself again.
revali as cloe (obviously), mipha as jade (we love a sporty tomboy), urbosa is giving yasmin/sasha (you KNOW she had to have the butterfly shirt), and daruk in wintertime wonderland. because it gets cold up on death mountain. (you'd never guess how hard it is to find a pink faux fur cropped jacket in your size when you're a buff goron :/)
individuals below the cut 💖 HOPE U ENJOY
this started out as "i'm just gonna do revali." which quickly turned into "ok well i can't JUST do revali... he'll be so lonely..." which, obviously, turned into "yeah ok i'll do link and zelda too" so they are. over here actually.
some of the garments are inspired by clothes my bratz dolls actually had while others are just 2000s trends that stick out in my brain. this was super nostalgic and fun for me to work on and i love them all very much!
thank u as always to friends on discord for encouraging (*cough* enabling) me ;)
Måneskin aesthetics but it's the four Zelda Breath of the Wild Prodiges
Tumblr media
Thomas as Mipha. The quiet one. Cutely stumbles on words. Not to be underestimated.
Tumblr media
Ethan as Revali. Rarely smiles. Likes to play as the rough prideful one, but is actual a softy.
Tumblr media
Victoria as Daruk. Very friendly and supportive. Natural leader. Smiles a lot and loves to make funny faces.
Tumblr media
Damiano as Urbosa. Being fabulous is an everyday requirement. Talks with hands. Is actually the responsible one.
totk rant anon here once again! i see that you completed the dlc and got to the final cutscene with that other really sweet revali moment, which naturally i also love a lot. revali confirmed best babysitter!
also i feel like with this + the earlier cutscene, the dlc kind of recontextualizes what teba says to revali at the end of the main story, and i just think that's neat.
(teba, having watched the Great Master Revali Himself sit perfectly still for 8 hours straight because there was a small child sleeping on him: "this has been... enlightening.")
on a slightly different note, i know it's a bit late for a follow-up to the previous ask i sent, but just in case you haven't yet refreshed your memory on revali's original dialogue for the windblight intro in botw, the main points are:
-tells link to be careful, same as in the localization. though interestingly enough, he has dialogue warning link to keep his guard up a bit earlier, once link has activated all terminals, which DID actually get lost in localization. every other champion gives link a subtle warning ahead of time but for some reason only revali's was removed in translation (replaced by "flap to it!" which... doesn't really convey the impending danger as effectively, i feel.)
-"100 years ago i let my guard down/got careless and was killed by that thing ganon created." this is localized as the "only because i was winging it" line.
-states that while he'd rather not have to say this, he's counting on link to take revenge for him. notably, unlike in the localization, he does not use link's name here. in his original dialogue, he only calls link by name once in botw: at the end of his cutscene with medoh where he acknowledges link as the key to defeating ganon. with that in mind it's interesting that aoc revali addresses link by name from fairly early on (which is ALSO changed in the localization in That One Cutscene. make up your minds people!) perhaps a slight hint that this version of revali already acknowledges link and is just too tsundere to admit it?? who knows.
also you mentioned the "just a scratch" line from aoc so i feel obligated to mention that that's actually one of the most bafflingly hilarious localization choices i've seen, because. what he says originally. is more along the lines of "damnit!" and i really want to know who it was that came to the conclusion that the best way to translate that into english would be to have him say literally the exact opposite. it's not exactly out of character for him to try and brush off the danger he's in (though he does seem to be a bit more honest with himself when he's alone), but it's still. the complete opposite of the sentiment his original dialogue conveyed. and that's really funny to me.
WAIT SORRY IF IVE ANSWERED THIS LATE???? idk when you sent this but it literally just appeared in my inbox????? thanks tumblr for keeping me from my revali enrichment 🙄
YEAH I THOUGHT ABOUT THAT. the dlc makes that part of the ending soo much better. like seeing the revali is actually sweet and a big softie underneath his bravado is a lot nicer than just teba going oh he's a cunt actually.
omg yay i love learning more about how the english translation sucks. a lot of it just comes across as the translation team not wanting to acknowledge certain aspects just to exaggerate his dickishness or for comedy. i think revali making himself out to be very cool while also making stupid bird puns is ridiculous and wonderful and i love it but i wouldn't sacrifice genuine more meaningful parts of him for them.
the way the japanese version had revali not call link by his name until he could accept link as the better warrior is so small but says so much and it's just not as impactful in the english version?? like this is literally a plot point in the tp manga with midna not calling link by his name and when she finally does it establishes a turning point in their relationship and it means so much there, so i wish they kept it here. him using his name is aoc is interesting though. it's like some days he wakes up and decides to be a tsundere and other times not sjhdjdj.
LMAO i suppose it's an attempt??? at trying to get his character???? like they obviously can see that his attitude is a front. also that reminds me of how teba also says dammit in botw and who is letting these birds swear in these nintendo games.
Sooo, I need to know, any head cannons, or thoughts on big shork Sidon
We do love big shark Sidon! :)
Headcanons:
He bites things out of curiosity, because sharks do that all the time, when they don’t understand something. If he found something he wasn’t familiar with he would put it in his mouth.
He has rows and rows of replaceable teeth (like a shark)
He’s actually a big softie who would definitely bake for people to show his love of them
If you threaten him everyone is up in arms. He can absolutely defend himself but he doesn’t need to. Link, Mipha, the new champions, the old champions, they would all jump in to destroy anyone who hurt the li’ll shark man.
He would be really good pals with Revali if they existed in the same time-line (this was inspired by @doodlesandbooks modern AU) I don’t really know why, but it is now a fact in my mind.
Thoughts:
He is probably the most encouraging NPC in the game.
From a story-telling perspective, he shows the impact of grief and loosing people in a way few of the other NPCs do. He lost his sister (Link’s fiancé) and shows the player how devastating that loss has been for the kingdom, for the fight against Ganon, but also for him and his family.
We all love the best human-shark man, so thank you for asking about him Anon! :)
Hi, sorry if I'm overwhelming you with Requests, but I had an idea for an Imagine that I'd really love to see you write!! Could you please write some Headcanons for how Link, Zelda, Sidon and Revali (Age of Calamity timeline for Sidon btw) would react to a young woman who has a very strong connection to the Spirits being sent to teach Zelda how to unlock her power? Like it's a young woman, around 18 years old, who has a natural ability to communicate with all manner of Spirits, maybe even is part Spirit in some way, so she gets appointed by the King of Hyrule to teach Zelda how to do the same? And maybe she's super nice and excited too? Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!!
oh darling you're totally fine i really appreciate it :D
i hope i did this justice! it's a really neat concept
i also made it an x reader with those attributes if that's okay :)
~~~~~~
Hylia's Guide
[BOTW x fem!Reader]
Headcanons (Link, Zelda, Revali, Sidon)
warnings: none
takes place during Age of Calamity!
also for headcanon's sake,,,,,being a descendant of hylia in this case doesnt mean that you're of the same family? if that makes sense? okay so like reader is descended from hylia and technically so is zelda but they aren't blood related in any way HAHA hope that makes sense
~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~
Let's set the scene, yeah?
You were one of the descendants of Hylia from centuries past, now a ghost in the afterlife as part of the universe itself.
Naturally, you would be surprised when you became sentient once more and blinked open your eyes in the middle of Hyrule Field. In your head rang a soothing voice that you both heard in your head and felt in your bones. In an instant, you knew it was Hylia communicating with your physical form again after years of dormant sleep.
The voice instructed that you were to aid Zelda in her studies of connecting to her powers. Hylia could not intervene directly with Zelda, of course, but the most the Goddess could do was send someone in her place. And that was you: a descendant of Hylia's own bloodline resurrected from the dead come to help the princess in her efforts. Easy enough, right?
Convincing the King and his guards of the situation was difficult, let alone trying to get him to allow you to assist his precious daughter with her practice. The only proof that you had of any story that you told were the markings on your hands and chest.
Three distinct triangles etched themselves on your body: one on the back of each hand and the third on your chest. Your powers had long since been passed on to the next descendant of Hylia, but you were still full of the knowledge of how to use Hylia's gift and how to communicate with the spirits.
•••
Link
Link was wary of you at first, being the princess's appointed knight and all, but he soon figured that you weren't as much of a threat as he initially thought
You were kind and excited to meet someone else who also held Hylia's gift (albeit not necessarily awakened, but still) and Link knew that Zelda would be safe in your hands
While going on spiritual treks with Zelda and Link, you almost always made the meals because both Zelda and Link can't really cook lmao
Coming from an entirely different era, you had a big book of recipes in your head that you brought into reality with every meal you made, and Link definitely wasn't complaining
He appreciated your wide breadth of knowledge of different foods, plants, and wildlife that you might encounter on your travels
It made planning protective measures for the princess all the easier
Sometimes the ventures to connect to Hylia didn't bear any fruit (and that's okay because the gift takes plenty of patience!) and the mood could become solemn quickly
But you were always determined to lift the mood and lighten everyone's attitude, and it always worked!
You would excitedly ramble off stories about where you grew up or what you liked to do on your own travels back in the day, and it would always make Link feel warm that you had such fond memories you were willing to share with him
When Zelda needed time to herself to try to connect to the spirits and Hylia, you and Link would hang around each other and bond
Link would listen attentively as you talked about the cultural and time differences between your world and this one, sharing sympathy when you expressed nostalgia over your time lost
But you would quickly turn it around to the positives, which is what Link thought was a wonderful quality that you had
If you ever got caught off guard while on ventures by the Yiga Clan or rogue animals, Link would fight just as hard as he would in larger battles to keep you safe
Over the time you spent together, Link grew very fond of you and always was at your side if he wasn't immediately attending to the princess
Once your guidance and knowledge finally broke through to Zelda and her power awakened, Link was so proud of you for fulfilling your duty
He was worried that you would disappear from his life once you completed Hylia's task, but you connected to the spirits after the fact and bargained with them
At the end of it all, you were able to live your life through again with Link by your side :)
•••
Zelda
Goddess was Zelda relieved when she found out that she would be having a guide to help her unlock her powers
Upon meeting you, she was absolutely floored with your kindness and willingness to help her with her problems
You were a wonderful mentor to Zelda, teaching her things about the different spirits and how to harness the power that she never would have dreamed of researching on her own
And wow there was a lot of information HAHA
Zelda was also transfixed with the fact that you came from another lifetime, and you were more than happy to tell her all about your life before this one
She would also take very detailed notes about everything you said, enamored with the way you spoke and how excited you got about things you loved
Quiet study time in Zelda's room would often turn into challenges of you trying to make her laugh with small tidbits of stupid stunts you would pull
Of course Zelda couldn't hold back a smile when you were around, so the challenges would fall short but with you falling into fits of laughter
You always brightened Zelda's mood whenever she was down about a failed connection attempt, urging her to try more and be patient with herself
Zelda was thankful to Hylia for sending you because honestly she wouldn't know what to do without someone that was as kind and generous as you were with spreading knowledge about your gifts
And when they finally awakened, Zelda couldn't be more happy!
Hyrule was now safe with Zelda's power awakened and Ganon on the edge of being sealed away
She pleaded that you find a way to stay in her time and teach her more about the spirits and Hylia herself
Your heart warmed at the thought that someone wanted you to stay, and it warmed even more at the fact that someone loved you enough to want to keep you forever :)
•••
Sidon
Sidon met you when he was summoned with the other Champion successors
You were the first to greet him and explain what had happened with the time jumping and all that, and you helped to put his nerves at ease
His own excitable and boisterous personality bounced off of your own energy and buzz!
Fighting side by side with you, Sidon admired how you always had a strategy and were looking out for Zelda as if she was your own sister
He was surprised upon learning your story: never had he known that Hylia had the power like that to bring someone back to help those in the present
Sidon tried his best to stay by your side whenever he could, wanting to keep your blind spots covered just in case
In your time, you had known the Zora and actually knew King Dorephan when he was a young little guppy, and your stories of Dorephan never failed to make Sidon laugh
Sidon in turn shared his own tales of the evolved Zora Domain, and you found his storytelling absolutely captivating
Sidon felt a pull to you like he had to no one else before, and he nurtured that pull with his own heart
He made sure you had enough supplies, checked in on you immediately when you came back from a far off mission
Just an all around softie I think! Sidon has always been caring like that :)
When it was time for him to go back, you discovered a way that you could jump with him back to his own time
After all, your mission with Zelda from Hylia was over. Why shouldn't you be able to live your life through again?
You jumped back with Sidon to a world vastly different than the one you had just been in, and even more different than the one you were born into
But with Sidon, it always felt like home!
•••
Revali
Revali didn't want to be impressed, but he was Definitely Impressed
Your composure about the whole situation was amazing, and you handled all the questions everyone had with grace
And your kindness was overwhelming (in a good way) with the fact that you opened your mind to such possibilities of even being resurrected like that
Revali admired you through and through
He would be incessantly curious about what the afterlife was like, how the spirits communicated with you, what Hylia was like
You, of course, couldn't accurately answer most questions because, well, you couldn't remember, but you appreciated his desire to learn
You loved the way that he fought: with purpose and intent. There was little to no hesitation with Revali, he always had a plan
When you would go to treks with Zelda and Link to try to summon Zelda's power, Revali would make comments here and there insisting that he tag along just in case
Poor Rito really just wanted to spend more time with you, that's all!
If he did tag along, it would be to Lanayru with his knowledge of the cold weather
He would rattle off safety facts of mountain weather and gear you would need, and you would be happy to listen as long as he was talking to you
Revali would also love to hear about your old life, and since you could go on for hours about it all, he would sit and absorb everything that came out of your mouth
He was smitten in a matter of weeks!
He could see the care and sympathy you had for Zelda as she struggled and triumphed in her process of opening her powers, and he appreciated that you could care so much for someone like that
Revali subconsciously protected you even if there was a leaf that fell in the way of your path, as he was always on alert in case someone caught you off guard
As your time came to a close and Zelda awakened her powers, Revali demanded that you stay (with love, of course)
And stay you did, making a bargain with the spirits and living the rest of your second life in the company of the Rito warrior :)
~~~~~~~~~
hope i got this good!! i thought the concept was really neat and i kinda wished they did something like that actually :/ zelda didn't deserve that angst
requests are welcome :)
Headcanons I Guess?
Last couple days got me feeling like shit so here's some headcanons to lighten  the spirits of myself and hopefully others. I have many so I’ll divide it by character.
Link:
-Autistic and mostly nonverbal, and knows enough sign language for conversation.
-Loves to cook because smells nice.
-Pansexual, trust me
-Nonbinary and GNC, uses all pronouns.
-Is literally the funniest person alive. Have you seen his dialogue?
-Struggled with anxiety pre and post-calamity. It was better in post-calamity when Zelda came back.
Zelda:
-Lesbian no I don’t take criticism
-desperately needs a new (and better smh) father figure post calamity.
-Taller than Link she’s taller than Link just accept it
-Didn’t make any close friends after her mothers death due to attachment issues.
-Cannot cook. She will literally burn water into charcoal.
-Also autistic, she literally loves the tech so much and I love her so much for it.
Urbosa:
-Literally everyone's mom.
-Definitely in love with the Queen of Hyrule.
-She hated Rhoam, honestly I firmly believe this.
-Has a beautiful singing voice, sang to Zelda after the Queen died.
Daruk:
-He is simply nonbinary what can I say.
-Also ace too.
-Cool Rock uncle.
-Okay he liked Link cuz they both Liked food, however I KNOW they would also commit arson together.
Revali:
-Grew up an orphan, so he felt he needed to prove his strength to everyone.
-He is actually a huge softie if you can get through the hard exterior.
-Heavily relies on attention and recognition to keep his confidence up. This is why he felt offended with Link when he didn’t praise him.
-Kinda self destructive not gonna lie.
-He does not want to be seen as a failure.
-Hehe gay. He started crushing on Link when he saw him fight.
-Super embarrassed by his red fledgling marks, as he wants to seem old and mature when in reality he is baby.
Mipha:
-Bi Bi Bi Byesexuwal she is Bi.
-Is so kind and nice but will literally rip off your kneecaps without hesitation.
-Very strong compared to what her size may suggest, she has bested beasts who are almost three times her size.
-If anything happens to her friends and family she will literally go berserk and turn the ass of whoever is responsible into fucking whipped cream.
-Incredibly fast both on land and in water. She’s a BEAST
-Okay Nintendo I think you get it I just wanna see Mipha kick ass please
Riju:
-Master of pranks.
-Has the same energy as Little My from Moomin Valley, if you know what that is.
-Very mischievous, but only with friends (like Buliara, Link, Zelda and the new champs.)
-She is actually a really good planner, and is very strategic.
-A very smart and capable leader, her people actually trust her a great deal.
-Not very open with her emotions.
-Obviously loves sand seals, and begged Buliara to get all those plushies.
-Has grown to see Buliara as a mother figure.
Yunobo:
-Guess what also nonbinary
-I saw a post a long time ago that said he would like DND and oh my god I resonate with that so much.
-Struggles with general anxiety, but has gotten through some tough times despite Goron culture.
-This makes him very understanding of others, and often offers to help with their problems, though he’s prone to being the “therapist” friend.
-I stand by this, he is a sculptor. When he’s not helping Bludo he’s making sculptures of he and his friends DND characters. This is the only medium he can learn becausedeathmountainandlavaandyouknow.
Sidon:
-Gay and Trans, no seriously I spoke with Nintendo themselves they told me its canon.
-I know this is the third character but he’s autistic.
-Also ADHD
-I need everyone to reread his dialogue and try and tell me he is not the most awkward man in existence.
-He is by no means a coward, but he has some trauma from the great calamity and avoids violence involving malice and guardians.
-This is a really weird one but I think he’d be far-sighted? Close up vison is probably not good given his head shape, and he’s good with bows.
-He’s gay and neurodivergent so guess what. Math makes him cry.
-Very bad with jokes cuz he misses social cues, however Dad puns will put him on the fucking floor.
-He has only seen them in pictures, but he is absolutely MORTIFIED by horses.
-Doesn’t really make close friends easy because of abandonment issues.
Teba:
-Master of dad jokes, and jokes in general.
-He loves Saki because she is an expert at calling him out on his bullshit.
-He respects Saki a great deal.
-And all women why we’re at it.
-hehe bisexual
-Kinda uhh just adopted all of the new champs.
-ESPECIALLY ZELDA
-If you need fatherly advice he’s your man.
-Shocked by the fact that all of the new champs, save for Sidon maybe, are children.
-So that means he is their fearless leader and he now has 5 more kids.
-Also scared of horses despite living near the stable (may have been run over as a kid)
-If a horse is nearby he and Sidon will literally bolt away like feral cats.
I thinks that about all I got. Writing this definitely made me feel better if you are a botw fan and are sad write headcanons. A lot of these are silly and indulgent but it feels nice to put my thoughts out there.
So I finished Age of Calamity
[spoilers]
Thanks to the beauty of holiday time off I have logged in 40 plus hours into this game and just beaten it, so naturally I’m gonna talk about it a bit. I’ll save the spoiler stuff for a little later though.
The game
This game might be my favorite game of 2020, or at least top three. Not just because of the world, but because everything is over the top! So far I’ve done 131 missions and 90% has the consistent energy of “we are fucking under attack” and it’s almost overwhelming in the best way possible. It really felt like you were on a battlefield field. Your map is just a sea of red and it’s your job to clean it up. What kept me engaged in the fights was all of the character’s different uses runes. I found myself constantly ordering my teammates to face certain enemy types that match best with how they fight.
Originally, I really wanted to be fair and rotate between characters. That didn’t last long. Mipha and Link in my opinion don’t have a single bad move. The bias only got worse whenever the master sword is obtained. Before that, my Link had a spear most of the time but that sword is just handy. Especially with item drop rate and attack range on it. In the end, my strongest characters were Link 74, Mipha 70, Impa 60, and Zelda 60. It’s been awhile since I played the first hyrule warriors so I can’t remember if they had the level up system were you can pay for experience but or definitely came in handy. Combine that with how many guardians were in this game and I quickly found out I needed Link with a shield on a regular bases. I also learned I didn’t forget how to time a vase amount of blocks and dodges.
The amount of characters you get to play quickly became too massive for me to juggle, but they all had their own merits for the most part, though I did find a few of the gimmick characters a bit of a hassle. My opinion on who was viable was constantly changing as I unlocked more combos. Originally, wasn’t the biggest fan of Urbosa. That second and fifth combo modifier changed everything.
The real portion of the game that really kept me wanting to play more was not only the ability to order other people, but seeing them fight along side you. I’m a softie for things like this, but genuinely felt relieved or hyped whenever I was fighting something crazy and I can see Impa rushing over towards me while text from soldiers scream “Just keep pushing!!!!” The AI wasn’t dumb either! There’s plenty of moments that controllable and NPC characters will just go where they’re supposed to, or kill targeted enemies. I remember not wanting to switch over to Link because he had low health, so as I’m running over to him as Mipha to heal him, the madman kills the Lynel. Ran all the way over there to watch him flex. That combined with elemental reactions you can cause in a fight, and the entire spectacle just felt elevated. The feeling of fighting three Lynel’s at once becomes a little less scary when you have a lightning rod and puddles everywhere.
The only negative I found in a gameplay perspective is some of the resource gathering. Gaining the trophy notes for killing a type of enemy isn’t too much of a hassle, but I found getting the materials they drop to be a bit harder, even with increased drop rate statuses. Most of this I find irritating for two reasons. One, specialized enemies show up in relatively small groups in a majority of missions, so getting things from them could be a flop altogether. Number two, a fair amount of these missions take a decent chunk of time if you’re being thorough and killing as much as possible. So grinding is a pain. Fortunately most missions a majority of what you need . If the game wanted chu chu jelly, I knew one of the missions coming up had chu chu as an enemy. You could also keep track of what you needed with material sensor that told you when you had enough.
The story
I’ll be honest, I was upset with this game for a hot second. It was advertised as a prequel to BoTW and while sad, I was truly invested to playing the events that lead to the fall of the champions. What this game didn’t tell you is it’s like most LoZ games, on its own separate part of the timeline. This isn’t the story of they lost. It’s the story of how they win, thanks to the little adorable robot mascot that has the ability to not only show the future, but bring people from the future; the champion’s descendants. At first I was upset with this. Mainly because I’m a little tired of time travel plots and it felt really out of place here. However, time travel gave way more to this game than what I expected this game to have in the first place. It allowed at least six more playable characters that wouldn’t have been possible in the other timeline, and a wellspring of interactions through missions. Every time Mipha was with Sidon, I smiled. Having Urbosa being this super encouraging role model to Riju was so nice since BoTW had expressed just how much those two admired and missed those people. Revali was nice to Teba! They were vibing. Even the soldier commentary on the new champions were a treat. So I got over the time travel issue pretty quick. It made things sad as well when the new generation leaves because they’re going back to a time where they lost it all. There was no great union that took place across hyrule to fight Ganon and their beloved champions failed. I do appreciate that the diverge in the timeline really takes place on the day they’re supposed to die, moments before the final blow. It still lets the player see the definitive moment where good was supposed to lose.
The “new” villain is meh. I wouldn’t really say he stands out. His entire thing is thinking he’s gonna win because he doesn’t realize that he isn’t seeing hyrule’s future. He’s seeing another hyrule’s future. What comes out of his character is cool though because it gives a different, yet same finale boss. I wasn’t expecting to basically fight a giant Ganondorf. Honestly, you can kinda say you fought Demise. At least aesthetically speaking. Or Yuga. This game has also made me care about robot. Something I haven’t done in awhile. A few scenes near the end felt hammy, but also amazingly realistic to how a lot of people would feel when someone breaks your favorite thing. The war was already personal, but now it’s really personal. Quests open up after the game that plays on those emotions too. It’s very clever.
Overall, Age of Calamities story felt like a love letter to everyone who loves this rendition of hyrule and the characters in it. They even another one named Sooga, who just might be my favorite. That man has no choice but to be the brain and muscle of the Yiga. It kinda makes me sad he’s introduced here because you can assume he didn’t make it in the other timeline, so he has no descendents. The amount of serotonin I felt just seeing all of these characters fighting together as the absolutely conquer the battlefield was more than satisfying. Definitely worth the money. I don’t know if they can, but Nintendo might wanna consider some sort of audio patch. The mixing is bad in certain parts. Voice lines get really quiet. Other than that, this game is real solid. I’d give it an 8.5/10
Side note
The music is really good. Especially the Zoe’s demain track. Also, I never noticed frame rate dropping or lag, except on two occasions. Both of these happened to be me pushing the game to its limits. The first is being surrounded by enemies in a small space as Mipha. Creating the water vortex and raining down bombs makes the game wanna cry a little. The second one is a similar case. Sidon’s fifth or sixth combo made the made the game drop frames because it’s incredibly fast, involves timing, makes a vortex, and i was in a small space with tons of enemies. Other than that, not even Urbosa’s or Riju’s lightning made the game freak out from what I noticed. That may have something to do with me never using them in a place where there’s constant rain. That might actually be the cause of the drop in combination of everything else.
Headcanons for Link/Sidon/Revali’s s/o having a crippling fear of SPIDERS - EW
Request: What about head canons for Revali, Link, and Sidon when s/o is afraid of spiders? (P.S) thank you soooo much for writing my suggestion about t h a t time of the month. It rlly made my day :)
Revali
LMAO YOU’RE SCARED OF SPIDERS?
He’s a big huge gaping asshole about it. Revali will seriously tease you about your fear and will probably go as far as bringing a spider to you just to see you scream.
But he’ll completely change his attitude when he realized how absolutely crippling your fear is.
It was a cool fall day in the village when he devised his plan. Revali knew the spiders and bugs were seeking out places to snuggle up for the harsh winter that crept down from the Hebra mountains. A particularly terrifying one stood perched on the railing of his landing. It hobbled and skipped from one beam to another before being scooped up in Revali’s wing.
“Dear?” Revali called from the doorway in a sing-song tone. “I’ve found something for you.”
Upon seeing what he deemed “something,” you promptly screamed and moved as far as the support beams of his home would allow you to go. Smiling smugly, he moved closer presenting the spider as if it were some golden prize.
Screaming louder, you continually begged him to be rid of the creature. You evaded him, shaking your entire body to ensure there was no bug attaching itself to you. You could feel an uncomfortable sensation creeping up your spine as you imagined the little bug that Revali had brought into your home.
Only then would he realize your fear. He followed behind you, leaving the spider on the railing.
If you were crying, he’d have a hard time admitting he was wrong but he would immediately come to comfort you.
He’d apologize and wrap you in his arms.
You’d never find any spiders around the village after that.
Link
He’s more like “wow, you’re scared of spiders?”
Link is far more understanding when it comes to fears of anything, really
Hateno village was typically calm with little to no disruption. The day was turning to night as Link returned home from his outing with Sidon to clear the area of the remaining foes.
That’s when he found you curled up on top of the bed, eyes glued to the ceiling, unmoving. He instantly kicked into hero mode and ascended the stairs to come to your side. His eyes darted up to the ceiling where the biggest spider stood dangling from the rafters.
Without a second of doubt, Link would bring out an arrow and toss it upward, ending the sad little spider’s life. He then promptly lassoed it down and disposed of the bug outside before returning to your side.
Link is a big softie when it comes to you and your fears
He’s pretty stoic most of the time, but you cowering over something so small always makes him smile.
Sidon
Sidon cannot believe you’re afraid of spiders.
He’s not afraid of much, and what he is afraid of is typically large in size, so when he finds out you’re scared of spiders he cannot believe it.
It was your typical day in the Domain. The skies had been open for hours as rain poured down onto the luminescent stone below. The Domain looked as if it was glowing.
Sidon had been attending to his princely duties the entire day and had finally found the time to step away and come see you. When he entered the inn, he hadn’t expected to find such a large black dot perched upon your shoulder blade.
He stepped forward, using a finger to gently remove the bug as he cutely welcomed it to the Domain. It didn’t move, finding comfort upon the princes finger.
He didn’t expect you to jump away with widened eyes. Your breath hitched in your throat as you zeroed in on the spider. Sidon took notice, his brows drawing together as he stepped forward to see what was bothering you.
You freaked out, a small scream coming from your throat as you backed into the wall.
Finally, Sidon figured out it was the little spider perched on his finger. He let it go, putting it on the rail before reaching out to you.
Sidon comforted you for the rest of the night and into the next day.
Spiders had officially been deemed enemies of the Domain after that incident.
Idk how old Revali was during the calamity. He probably could’ve been a lot older than Link, but personally I think it would’ve been better if he was around Link’s age cuz Revali having beef with someone much younger than him is hysterical and I don’t want that dhskshskbsks.
But also with Revali being a teenager around the time of the calamity would be very funny in AOC cuz that would mean that Teba went back in time expecting to see the Rito champion all big strong when in reality the champion was a bratty kid who hated everyone.
for the fandom thing: Little Witch Academia. If you haven't seen that one, then Breath of the Wild.
i haven’t seen little witch academia, although it’s on my list, so breath of the wild it is!!! beware of spoilers for the game even though it’s 3 years old lol
favorite female character: god i can’t chose between zelda and urbosa, i’m so sorry for cheating this question but. god. zelda is my baby and i adore her but urbosa is just SO GOOD and SO PRETTY and BADASS and I LOVE BOTH OF THEM OKAY,,
favorite male character: i guess daruk?? he’s not really one of my favorites but he’s such a a huge softie!!! he protects his friends and he’s scared of dogs and i just.... heart eyes. he’s so sweet
favorite book/season/etc: it’s a very non-linear game and there aren’t really any chapters but i really like the vah naboris section of the game!! the town vibes are so nice, the yiga are hilarious, the gerudo are so wonderful, and i adore riju so much..... i would die for this tiny queen
favorite episode: i’m gonna just go with favorite scene, and mine is link and zelda’s last stand against the guardians 100 years ago........ gorgeous cinema
favorite cast member: elizabeth maxwell!!!!!!! i adore her so much in every role she plays
favorite ship: zelink...... i know i’m basic but i simp for soulmates and the knight/charge dynamic
character i’d die defending: idk if this means defending from accusations or defending from like. physical harm?? for the first, yunobo is a sweetheart who has done nothing wrong ever. for the second, everyone. i shield every character in botw from harm. nothing bad happens in this game. everyone from 100 years ago is alive. everything is fine-
character i just can’t sympathize with: the king. i get it you regret your mistakes but you called your daughter a failure right in front of her knight and you forced her to “train” relentlessly for years!!! i know the fate of hyrule was on the line but zelda was 16!!!!! shut up!!!!!!!
character i grew to love: i hated revali in the beginning and i still do but now i LOVE to hate him. he has a phd in being an asshole. he’s so much fun
anti otp: i don’t really think there’s a ship i don’t like?????? i just kind of prefer zelink over everything else. oh!!! i’ve seen some urbosa/zelda and i don’t like it because urbosa is like.... her other mom. zelda has two moms. that’s it. who is king rhoam
Whenever my sister plays BoTW, she utterly confounds me.
She never did the Memory Quest. She never got to know the Champion’s or Zelda. After she played it the first time through, she thought Zelda was still DEAD.
And I... just don’t understand that.
How can someone not want to watch the memories? Especially in BoTW where the majority of the story takes place in THE PAST.
How can someone not watch that first memory, with Zelda doing a ceremony for Link with so much annoyance in her voice? Or how the Champion’s all saw this contempt, the only one understanding it being Urbosa.
But it leaves the player with so many questions. Why does Zelda dislike Link so much? They’ve just recently been bound together in their fate. What could have happened for her to be so cold? Why does Revali feel the same way? Why does Urbosa see right through Zelda?
And the second memory, as the pair makes their way to Goron City. The distance, the pure annoyance and distain in Zelda’s speech. The two are far from friends. More like forced acquaintances. You can smell the trope at this point. But, it has yet to really get you. They have no bond yet. It isn’t deep enough.
The third, oh this one is a doozy. First, Zelda explaining something very vital to the game. Then, Link riding up which means Zelda literally escaped from the castle and fled to this shrine so far away. Why? There’s a shine right outside Hyrule Castle. One inside as well. Why would she want to be away from the castle? And away from Link’s protection? And Zelda freaks out. She establishes their relationship as everything but a relationship. They have had to form a reluctant bond with each other to fulfill this prophecy. Link is intent on keeping up his role. Zelda is refusing to cooperate with him. It builds angst. It gives Zelda some background, as we learn her contempt is not only at Link, but also at her father.
The fourth one. The one that literally changes everything. It’s one that sets up the rest of their relationship. It mirrors their fate. Zelda is being CHASED so there’s the action appeal. And then Link, the ever loyal knight, manages to step in last second and save the Princess. Cue the slow music and Zelda’s stare that shows emotions from disbelief to adoration. It’s a mix of everything but it gives them a turning point. How can someone not want to see if they use it to move forward or use it to again block their development as Princess and her knight?
The fifth bad boy. Oh man. The sudden shift is BLANTANTLY OBVIOUS. Zelda is seen actually interacting with Link, scolding him for being reckless, and assessing his wounds. She’s begun to care about Link. Not caring about how his role hinders hers in some way. No, instead caring about Link and his own safety. She shares her concerns, letting us see a little more of Zelda. She is quite aware of the threat and can sense the omens that keep popping up. She’s set herself to stopping him. And she used plural terms. She’s accepted Link. The distance between them has lessened greatly. How am I not supposed to go hungrily searching for the next location to see them interact with each other?
Boy does the sixth bring some smiles. This entire memory establishes Link and Zelda as friends. They’ve become much closer, now just hanging outside the castle in a field. Zelda should probably be training. Instead, she establishes the importance of the Silent Princess. The symbolism is huge. It also gives us an insight on how close they actually are. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would have to be pretty comfortable with someone to try and force feed them a frog. How were my shipper senses not suppose to kick in and go into hyperdrive?
The seventh one is another one of my favorites. It gives a domestic vibe as the pair are forced to delay their travel to wait the rain out. Zelda is sitting down, just watching Link and the nature around her, rambling about her thoughts. Link is training, not unaware of her stare, but comfortable enough to not be hindered by it. Zelda reveals a piece of herself by relating it to the limited knowledge she has of Link. We see some true development and get to really see Zelda as who she is. The princess with a bad temper is really just a girl forced into a destiny that she can’t seem to fulfill and this cannot he truly dedicated it as her interests lie elsewhere. Character development? Checkkkkk
This one. This eighth memory that really clues in two things for the player. Zelda and her father have a very strained relationship due to the responsibilities that weight down both their shoulders. The way the scene is set up allows the player to see that Link is the reason she gathers the courage to stand up for herself. Ultimately she concedes, taking in the failure she must be in her fathers eyes. And, Link’s presence is only explained by the simple fact that he was there for Zelda. Not as her knight, though that has become a natural state for him, but as her friend. He is there to keep her company as she researches and to listen to her thoughts. They have gone from unwilling companions to wanting to be near each other even if there is no need for it. Am I suppose to stop now?
The ninth scene. Oh this one really tugs at my heart. We see the true frustration and toll Zelda has been enduring. Though it doesn’t justify it, this scene really makes the player understand her cold attitude towards Link in the beginning. But this scene gives us so much more about them. Though subtle, Link obviously reacts to Zelda’s pleas and later her cries. He turns his head, more interested in hearing her words, than watch the Spring for any enemies. And then, he turns around as she blames herself for something being wrong with her. This just gives us a glimpse into Link’s own feelings and that he won’t stand for anyone doubting Zelda, even if it is herself. He’s no longer just her knight, but someone who cares deeply about her and can’t stand when anyone degraded her. How was I not suppose to notice that?
Tenth scene and they’re riding almost side by side. They have come so far from the distance in the second memory. This memory confirms Link can speak, but it also confirms that he’s a softie when it comes to horses. PLUS this memory gives us Zelda’s little speech about her last Hope on Mt. Lanayru. Zelda has reached her end point and tomorrow Link will be the only one truly supporting her as he makes his way with her to the Spring.
Ooohhhhh and this one. The one where the entire threat of Ganon arrives in the eleventh scene. Zelda and Link walk back, everything clear on their faces. Link, is utterly focused on Zelda. He knows her personal disappointment in herself and how she’s surely beating her self up mentally at that moment. No one else there really matters. Just Zelda. Even when Mipha is talking, giving advice, Link’s gaze never wanders from Zelda. Then, Ganon appears. Link doesn’t let Zelda even STUMBLE because his hands are already there supporting her. She is his entire focus and this memory really highlights his shift from just a knight, to someone who cares so deeply about someone who is experiencing so much pain. This memory gives us another look at the Champion’s too.
And this last one. The twelfth memory. This entire memory sealed the deal when it came down to these two. Running away together from death machines? Check. One slipping and falling and the other having to stop and go back? Check. The one having a breakdown. Check. The other comforting them. Check. Zelda breaking down, Link letting her get it all out... It truly shows the depth of their relationship. It has surpassed being mere friends at this point. Zelda is completely distraught. Link is endangering them both by sheathing his sword. But he needs to let Zelda her her feelings out. He needs to be there for her. So he fails his duty and comforts her. Even he is surprised as she embraces him, but it quickly settles into one of compassion and endearment. They’ve truly accepted the other. They are not the princess who holds the power to seal Ganon or the knight who wields the sword that seals the darkness. They are Link and Zelda. After than emotional toll? How can I NOT go get the last one.
And this one..The thirteenth memory. Boy is this one’s heart wrenching. Link is gravely injured, Zelda begging him to run. But Link doesn’t because it is his duty and he would never leave Zelda is there was danger around. Not a chance. And she unlocks her power, as she is forced to protect the one she loves, the one who understands her in a way no one else can. The boy who showed her more to life than Sheikah Tech and sealing powers. And Link, he’s completely aware that he’s going to die. He’s even giving her a “we both know that’s not true” when Zelda swears that he’ll be fine. And he isn’t. It’s heartbreaking, watching her spb over the boy who made her feel more than the princess everyone looks at her to be. A soft lullaby, casually breaking my heart in the background. Then, the moment where it all goes down. Zelda can save Link. Her fingers curl against his chest as she realizes he can still be saved. She can’t cry. She has to be determined. And she is.
How was I not supposed to fall into this story head first? Not fall in love with Link and Zelda’s relationship. The entire plot and trope it follows. It’s angsty, it’s soft, and it is HEARTBREAKING.
How wasn’t I suppose to fall into an obsession and write posts like this at 2 in the morning when I should be sleeping?
m, r, s, and t for revali !
M   :   MOONLIGHT.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?
I don’t think he has a specific ideal, and could be impossibly happy with a lot of things. Sort of comes with his pragmatism, in a way.
He’s another strong contender for hot springs, because he lives like a pro athlete and to just sit still and have hot water work on muscle is heavenly, much moreso if he’s got interesting conversation in the meantime.
If his partner’s a Rito or has some other feasibly safe means of tagging along, he’s head over heels about flying stuff. There’s so much up there that gets overblown; he’s conflated pretty fairly with being up there for sport or combat, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a wealth of beauty he actively appreciates and wouldn’t mind showing off. Sunset flying? Soft oranges and purples and pinks? Cooling air after a hot day? C’mon.And with that comes either a ridiculous amount of showing off because he Has To Impress This Person, or a shockingly relaxed little flyabout with minimal conversation ( hard to hear without yelling up there ) and Lots Of Eye Contact he’ll deny later.
He gets dented up a lot ( as we see, even just training by himself is a fucking medical hazard ) and being on his own so much has a soft spot a MILE WIDE for being tended, so if anyone he was on good terms with or had an interest in took an afternoon to patch him up, he’d almost count it as a date? And a super successful one? Help him.
R   :   ROMANCE.   is your muse a romantic or a cynic?
He’s not quite either, in the most straightforward sense. He definitely, really does believe that bonds like that can be more beneficial to parties involved than nearly anything else, and he sincerely thinks it can happen - and in rare cases you really can just meet someone that’s right, but he’s also very, very realistic, and cautious to the point of coming off more cynical than he is.
He believes and is very serious about relationships and love being a choice and something you work toward, actively, as a unit, as opposed to some easy fairytale affair where nothing ever bothers you, Ever, and you’re never tested. Miss him with that, it lacks effort and depth. He’s In Love with Work, Dedication, Patience, the ability to look at your person at their absolute worst and shrug it off, because he’ll be at his worst next tuesday so who cares? If he looks at any pairing - even his own - and doesn’t get the impression it could endure actual strain, he’ll say as much out loud and to your face. He’s up front about things like that.
He’s got a serious belief in the emotions relating to romance, but he’s shockingly grounded in his expectations and a touch brusque about his opinions to such an extent most people would definitely assume he’s just dead cynical to the whole concept. Go figure.
S   :   SWEETHEART.   did your muse have a childhood sweetheart?
Insert non-committal wiggly hand gesture. He was a touch isolated as a kid, didn’t have anything by way of friends and little by way of acquaintance. So by the usual example where the sweethearts in question were particularly close for a semisubstantial period of time, not really.
That said, young-awkward-too-quiet-early-teen Revali had a grand total of two ( 2 ) puppy crushes:1 ) Scrawny and steely-eyed, unflappable lil Rito gal his age who didn’t like singing much and often ditched lessons to hang out with her parents, who were - I’m not sure what one calls constructs in Rito Village because the whole place is kind of just there, but they were builders who actually were the ones to construct what would eventually become Revali’s Landing. He just ran into her often enough and picked up more details at just the right pace he was….actively intrigued and a little too jazzed to speak with her. Had great book recommendations and prettiest irritated ‘please shut up’ eyes. Fell entirely out of contact when he tripled down on his craft.2 ) He used to enjoy ending summer training sessions with a lot of creative mindless tricks and then dive-bombing the lake, to swim until he’d cooled off enough to go eat and rest up, right? While doing that one day he was nearly shot out of the goddamn air by a hunter staying at the nearby stable ( accidentally of course; she’d been shooting at an average bird and had no means of seeing him coming because he moved so UNNECESSARILY fast and was at the time out of her line of vision ). He belly-flopped with a horrendous lack of grace ten yards short of the lake. He fired right up into a sort of prototype-rant, nowhere near his adult peak of pride, all how dare you and what are you thinking and to his complete shock, she immediately flipped it and proceeded to MERCILESSLY roast him for zooming around without warning you can’t showboat like that, but was just apologetic / he looked just pathetically beat up enough that she patched him up by way of apology. Roasted him, black sense of humor, a few years older than him ( and had spent nearly all of it traveling, so she had a few good anecdotes to share ) and skilled, hit the ‘please scold me but also gently help me Not Die’ weakness – guy didn’t stand a chance. Nothing serious, just a few days’ juvenile infatuation and he basically never saw her again. Alas.
T   :   TRUE LOVE.   does your muse believe in true love?
Like I said above, not in the easy at-first-sight kind, no.
But he does certainly believe everyone’s got a person, with whom falling in love, and maintaining and nurturing that love, will be more fruitful and successful than any other person. A unique match that will eventually result in a version of oneself vastly better for the influence, a power couple even if in a purely emotional sense.
What a secret work-hard softy.
If memories could speak
If memories could speak...
Mine would be saying...
I loved you.
 “Good luck sealing the darkness!”
Revali flapped his wings once more, using the whirlwind to his advantage to go all the way up Vah Medoh. Upon looking back one more time, he saw the Hero calmly staring back, and then slowly retrieving from his spot towards the village.
Revali let out a loud, deep sigh upon reaching the divine beast, landing on its left wing and watching from above everything surrounding the region, or more specifically, the village itself, with little to no detail on its habitants.
Why couldn’t he ever come to terms with himself?
“Bird boy?!”
Revali groaned and sighed again as he heard Daruk’s loud voice coming from the main pillar of Medoh. He flew over, touching the pedestal and closing his eyes.
“Do not call me bird boy” he growled to the goron. He was still very uncertain of how the divine beasts could communicate, even if they were several kilometers apart. “What do you want?”
“Apologizes, Revali” Daruk responded. “I was just wondering, since you were the first champion to connect with your divine beast, if you could give me some advice on my own! Rudania is very… unpredictable”
“Luckily for you and your own species that you are all made of rock” he said and chuckled at Daruk’s confused hum. “What did it break this time?”
“It broke part of the volcano, and it went flying all the way down to the northern mine” Daruk grumbled, and Revali hummed. “Anyway, can you help? If you are busy, because I have heard that the princess is around Rito village, I can just call Mipha or Urbosa”
“There is no need. I am not accompanying the princess or her… knight” he said, face showing a displeased frown. Not only his face seemed to be showing his unhappiness, since Daruk hummed on the other side.
“Hey Revali, I know you are the champion and all, such as I am, and it is pretty obvious that you do not like Link, but you need to give him a break” he said, firmly, and Revali furrowed his eyebrows.
“Why? Isn’t he the hero almighty? He should be able to deal with a few of my teasing if he wants to defeat the Calamity. At least that” he huffed. “Besides, he should really be battling all of us, so we could see his… true potential. If he cannot defeat the champions, he is not fit to seal the darkness”
“You Ritos may say our heads are as empty as our stomachs, but your hearts are as harsh and pointy as your beaks” Daruk said, clearly angry and disappointed. Revali’s eyes opened in surprise, before his hand curled up over the pedestal in anger.
“If you think that, go to those softies you call friends for help” he answered, his eyes still opened and connected to Medoh. Upon retrieving his hand from the pedestal, his accumulated anger made the beast rise in the sky, fast and far, and Revali’s own body fell to the ground at the strength of gravity as it moved up. With his hand still curled into a fist and his brain burning with anger, he didn’t let the situation with Medoh worry him.
He just stood once it stopped and walked towards the edge of the beast, now seeing nothing but clouds and the peak of Hebra’s mountain.
As he looked down, he knew under him and Medoh was Rito village, far under the clouds. He growled as he sat down, legs dangling outside as he crossed his wings over his chest, still thinking about the goron’s words. He did not mean to dwell on them, what good would it do? But they seemed… so familiar. So alike words he had heard before… words that… had surely being spoken to hurt.
He knew Daruk had a heart as warm as the Death Mountain itself. It wasn’t possible for him to… be so mean deliberately. He meant something beyond what he had said, but as usual to gorons, he wasn’t able to fully put his message across.
However in the back of Revali’s mind, those words kept repeating themselves with another voice, another tone, and not about the ritos as a species, but about himself… as an individual.
At the time he heard them for the first time, he was but a child. He had cried, alone, on the top of Rito village.
Now, however, he was older. Wiser. Stronger. And those words couldn’t defeat him so easily.
Just like his feelings couldn’t control him.
Even if they really wanted to.
  Upon seeing you in my memories…
Through my eyes…
You will know
 They were united once again, now because Daruk had had the wonderful idea of a gathering between champions.
Revali did not want to go. He didn’t wish to be there. He was tired from his constant training and usage of Medoh, and he didn’t even like the rest of the champions. However, there he was, sitting between Urbosa and Mipha, staring at the fire in front of them.
Had the gerudo chief not threatened to burn all his scarves, he wouldn’t have come. What choice did we have?
“How… long are you planning for this trip to be, Daruk?” The princess asked, her voice always soft and sweet. At least when she talked to the goron, that was. Daruk smiled, wide, and Revali held back the need to cringe.
“At least a week, little princess! Urbosa and I think it is important for all six of us to try and connect with each other before anything happens!” he said, always optimistic. Urbosa nodded.
“Indeed. We must know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and be at least a little in tune with each other’s ways of living, acting and culture. That is how I see it at least” she said, smiling at the princess. She smiled back, and nodded.
“Yes! And while together, we can also discuss about how the beasts are going, if there is anything wrong with them or any requests from your towns, as well as how this slate actually works” she said, happily, pulling out the Sheika Slate from her pocket. Revali huffed quietly and rolled his eyes, looking away onto the hills ahead, watching as the moon and the stars seemed to slowly move in relation to it.
“Well… then I suppose, we should tell each other a little about ourselves!” Mipha said, smiling, and all the rest agreed. Revali tried not to show his lack of interest, really not in the mood for unnecessary fights or disagreements that night, and as he moved his head to pretend to pay attention, his eyes drifted to Link.
Link, the hero, Hyrule’s mightiest knight. Who, unlike the rest, seemed just as interested in that gathering as Revali himself, staring down at the ground under his feet, scratching the surface as he leaned on one leg, the other lazily laid on the ground on a triangular formation.
If not bored, he seemed contemplative.
“Why doesn’t our favorite bird boy start?” Daruk offered, smile still big, and Revali felt his wings puffing up as he looked up at the goron.
“Don’t call me bird boy!” he said, loudly, slamming his wings on the ground. It made a slight wind effect, that made Mipha gasp and Zelda laugh.
Link, for the first time that night, looked up.
“Calm down there, hurricane” Urbosa teased. “Tell us a bit about yourself”
“I do not have anything to tell that you all don’t already know” he said, wiping his wings and relaxing before placing his right hand over his chest and lifting his face. “I am Revali, the champion of Rito village, the Rito’s mightiest warrior, master in the arch and bow and the first and only to be able to propel myself upwards with my own special technique! I am the most intelligent, strong and fierce r-”
“Okay okay” Zelda interrupted, and all the eyes went to her, even his own. She was smirking. “Whatever, mister all mighty. Now tell us what we want to hear. The juicy details”
Revali’s wing slowly came to rest on his crossed legs. Juicy… details?
“Yes! A champion such as yourself must have a lot of fun and interesting stories to tell!” Mipha agreed, smile always sweet. Too sweet. “Maybe about… about romances!”
“Or about failures” Zelda added, chuckling, and Revali could feel his cheek feathers puffing up.
“Maybe some stories your parents told you as a child? That inspired you to become what you are” Urbosa complimented, her smile serene as her figure.
“Or friends you may have made! People who were important for your growth!” Daruk continued along. The three champions and the princess were staring at him with quite some… anticipation in their eyes.
He turned to Link, waiting for some commentary by the Hero’s part.
Link just tilted his head.
It seemed like he was asking all those questions at once.
“Fine” he sighed and crossed his wings once again, face turning away from them all, eyes closing and then opening again to stare down at them. “Which one of those you… wish to know first?”
“Anything you are willing to tell” Urbosa said, nodding towards him. All their eyes were fixed on him as they waited. Even Link’s.
“Well… as most of you can probably expect, I did not have that many friends” he said, and Zelda chuckled.
“I wonder why” she said and he glared at her.
“Do you wish to tell my story for me, princess?” he asked, rudely, and she waved her hand.
“No no, of course not. Keep going” she encouraged and he sighed before returning his eyes to the skies and his attention to the stories.
“As I was saying… I did not have many friends” he said, again, and this time no one interrupted. “And unlike what you may think, it was because I was… extremely shy”
“Shy?” Urbosa asked, and Mipha’s eyes widened a bit.
“I cannot imagine how a shy Revali would be like” she giggled and he looked over at her.
“Perhaps more or less like you” he smirked and she blushed ever so lightly. “Anyway. Yes. I was shy. Shy and quiet, specially for a rito. I know it is more common for us ritos to be loud and obnoxious, as we are told by basically every single other species, but… in my case, I was collected, shy, did not sing as much as the other children in the village, or adults. I found more pleasure in staying inside my shack and reading old text books about the olden days. From the evolution from zoras to ritos and how our communities grew apart and came to be as a whole”
“So you know at least a bit of zoras culture” Mipha said, smiling, and he nodded.
“Yes, of course. Our cultures don’t diverge that much, no matter how many thousands of years have set us apart” he said, smiling a bit at the zora. Then, he returned his attention to the rest of the group. “I grew, because of my ways, a bit far away from the others. I did not mind it one bit, but my parents were sociable and they complained quite often about my lack of interest for the present and fascination for the past. We grew apart as a family, and the entire village knew about it. Those weren’t very fun times for me, I must say, but I overcame them easily. For the rest, I had a normal youth. I started to train to become a warrior very early in age, after my father suffered many injuries after a battle with the Yiga clan. I became an expert with the bow and sooner than later, I was the best warrior the village had ever had. I mastered the wind and the sky and by my own training, I was able to create what I now call Revali’s Gale, the whirlwind. Now I can fly up as much as I want, without any help” he smiled, proudly, and Zelda hummed.
“Interesting story. What about girlfriends? Boyfriends?” she asked, bluntly, and he felt his cheek wings puffing again.
“What?”
“Relationships. Romances. Courtships. Those things. Don’t you ritos have rituals or something?” she asked, and Mipha beamed.
“Yes! In zora culture, we ladies make an armor to our possible husband, to ask them to marry us!” she said, happily, and Revali raised his eyebrow slowly.
“We have rituals but I have never participated in one. I used all my time to practice to be a warrior and never had time to court anyone. And in rito culture, if you are older than 12, you certainly do not have any chances for courtship. So I never truly even tried. Despite of not having anyone I wanted to try it with” he shrugged, and Urbosa chuckled.
“I see your struggle. When I told the rest of my clan I did not wish to marry any hylian or anyone by that sort, they did not comprehend. Now they have accepted it, but they still think it is absurd that I don’t have at least an heir to the throne, despite the fact that I have already chosen my successor.” She chuckled and Daruk laughed.
“You would find yourself quite comfortable in Goron city then, Urbosa! We do not marry nor have any mating rituals! Any new integrant of our species is born from a rock of our own choice! Any and all gorons have the ability to give life to rocks, and from there, our species continues!” he said, happily, and Zelda hummed in interest.
“Have you ever been with anyone, princess?” Mipha asked, shyly, fiddling with her tail, and Zelda blushed ever so slightly before shrugging.
“Oh no. Give us the details now” Urbosa said, poking her, and Daruk nodded.
“You made Revali speak, now let it out, little princess!”
“Ugh fine!” she said and scratched the back of her head. “I may have had a few… datemates here and there… but not many! And most innocent!” she said, and regretted it immediately.
“Most?” Revali asked, smirking, and she blushed even more, making all the rest laugh. All the rest but Link. He caught Mipha’s quick glance to the hero and hummed. “What about you, Mipha?”
“M-me?” she squeaked out, and he nodded. “O-oh well I…”
“Come on, Mipha!” Zelda said, quickly, wanting to stay out of the conversation again. Mipha blushed more and looked down at her hand nervously.
“I…”
She gasped when Link placed a hand on her shoulder and nodded. She smiled and took a deep breath,  and for some reason, the simple gesture made Revali’s blood boil.
Not until that moment he had felt anger towards Link. Now he was, and for unknown reasons.
“I have… I have courted some… someone before, but I don’t think he… he ever noticed” Mipha said, shyly, and Revali rolled his eyes.
“Well then you should tell him!” Daruk said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Revali looked at the sky again, annoyed. They were all so… innocent and stupid.
It was so obvious. Didn’t they know?
“Will you make him an armor?” Urbosa asked, curiously, and Mipha nodded quickly.
“It is… already being made” she smiled and Zelda clapped her hands.
“Very good! Someone with courage around here!” she said, and Mipha giggled in a thankful manner.
“What about you, Link?”
Revali slowly turned his gaze to the hero at Urbosa’s question. All eyes were focused on Link as he stared at the gerudo chief.
He shook his head, and she chuckled.
“A man of few words” she said, and Link shrugged.
“Come on little guy, open up a bit more” Daruk pushed, smiling, and Link looked at him before lifting his hands.
‘Had no time. Lessons and sword training together with knight practice and endurance tests didn’t let me think about those things’ he signed.
Somehow… Revali’s chest squeezed with a sad familiarity.
“You weren’t like that as a child though” Mipha said, and Link looked at her. His eyes seemed to smile, but his mouth did not move.
‘Yes. I was a happy, excited child. Sometimes, I miss those days, but not usually. I like my job’.
Revali’s side glance caught the princess holding her hand over her heart, and her eyes avert to the ground, in a gesture that he was unsure if it was guilt or rage.
In each case, it didn’t matter. The feeling was mutual all around the fire.
  My feelings fled with the winds…
And yet do you even remember…
What we went through?
 “You again?”
Revali raised his eyebrow as he saw Link once more in the platform, staring at nothing as he probably waited. He sighed when the hero turned to face him, raising an eyebrow of his own.
‘The princess is looking for you’.
“And?”
‘If you want me away from the village, you should go talk to her’.
“As much as I want you as far away from me as possible, I would rather have you for an entire week than talking to her” Revali said, crossing his arms and staring to the mountains beyond their view. Link moved away from the edge, closer to Revali himself.
‘She told me you are having problems with Medoh. That is why she came’
“I am having no problems with the beast, thank her very much. Now if you would just find her and leave, that would be a pleasure on my part” he said, looking at Link, or rather down at him, his beak high. Link just stared back for a few seconds.
‘You know it is not the end of the world if Medoh isn’t working right, right? You know it isn’t necessarily your fault’ he signed, and Revali felt his blood boiling again.
“I know that very well!” he said, loudly, wings puffing up slightly. Link tilted his head. “And I also know that Medoh and I are doing just fine!”
“I am glad to hear it, but that is a lie” he heard Zelda saying, and Revali took a deep breath before slowly turning around to face her, a smirk appearing on his beak. “I have been talking to the elder, and he agrees that something is wrong. Could you stop being so full of yourself and just show us what is wrong so perhaps we can fix it?”
Revali held back a sigh of frustration and bowed, oh so sarcastically.
“It will be my pleasure” he said and looked up at her before spreading his wings and making a whirlwind upwards. He flew off and she gasped as he went right to Medoh.
“Revali! Wait!” she screamed out before she growled. “Oh my Hylia! He is so petulant and so annoying!”
Revali smirked from up there, laughing to himself as he landed on Vah Medoh and stared down to them. There was no one any one of them could get to Medoh now. They would have to wait for his own good will to stop it at the top of the village, and then they would have to climb, because he wouldn’t bring anyone aboard.
After laughing for a while longer, he left to the Flight Range, leaving Medoh in the air. There, he trained for long hours, only stopping sometimes to eat and rest. One of those times, he sat down, gathering his ingredients to make a delicious berry pie, and it wasn’t until he was halfway done when he started to hear the sound of wood breaking.
Curious and suspicious, he stood and moved to the edge of the shack, letting out a revolted and angry gasp as he saw no one other than the knight himself using his stupid paraglider to fly around the range, shooting the targets with a lesser bow.
“What are you doing?!” he asked, angrily, barely screaming. Link shoot the last target before using his glider to glide all the way towards the shack. “Who told you you could come here?! Why haven’t you left already?!”
Link dropped from the paraglider and out it next to himself, taking the snow off his clothes and then looking at Revali with his same old neutral expression.
‘The princess hasn’t left. She is asleep by now, or writing her journal. She is waiting for you to show her Medoh. As to me, I was not tired enough to sleep, and the elder recommended this place’
Sometimes… no, he wanted to kill that old owl all the time.
“Well, you can’t. Now go back to the village, I am training here” he said, coldly, and Link stared at him, before raising his eyebrow.
‘I thought here would be a great place to settle our rivalry’ he signed, and a hit of a smile curled up on his mouth. Revali was… astonished by it, but made no comments.
“W-what? Why?” he asked, confused and suspicious, eyes narrowing, but Link simply shrugged.
‘Didn’t you say you wanted to settle this? One on one? See who is the best warrior? Why not today? This way, we can finally be done with it’
“Aren’t you afraid of losing?” he asked, and Link actually smiled.
His smile provoked the most weird sensations inside Revali’s chest.
‘Why would I? If I lose this battle, I could finally win a friend’ he signed, the smile never leaving his face.
It was so sweet… it fit his face so much…
“A… friend...?”
‘You’
“There you are!” Zelda’s voice came as an avalanche to Revali’s years, making him turn around quickly and frown as she climbed upstairs. Link was quick to rush towards her, but she just pointed her finger at him. “You shouldn’t be here! You should be in bed!”
“Calm down, princess. I called him here” Revali caught himself lying, and Link looked ta him surprised as she turned to face him, eyes narrowed, angry.
“Oh. I see. So you ignore me and my pleas to go see Medoh but you call Link at the darkness of night to have a little brawl?” she asked, and then chuckled. “I should have expected as such. Fine. But if tomorrow you don’t show me Medoh, I will talk to my father about your behavior!”
“Fine. It is not like I own your father any answers to my actions” Revali said, easily, and she frowned.
“He is your king!”
“He is your king. He is my nothing” he said and grabbed his bow. “Now if you two excuse me, I need to practice”
Without any more words, Revali flew off, grabbing the bow with his claws and flying away towards the night sky. He flew as high as he could, stopping at the top of the mountain close to the flight range, watching the beacon of light that Zelda’s torch emitted in the darkness.
He curled up on the peak, wrapping his wings around his legs and staring as they walked all the way back to the village.
For some reason, the thought of the two alone together made him extremely angry.
In the next day, he would show Zelda the problems Medoh was having.
That way, they could leave all the sooner.
   There were others like me…
Who saw you smile…
But do you remember?
 “Where is Link?” Mipha asked as, once again, the champions and the princess were united around a fire to have their bonding moments.
“My father said he is grieving” the princess said, poking the fire with a stick. All guardians frowned, Revali included.
“What for?” Daruk asked, and Zelda sighed.
“His father… is diseased” she mumbled, seeming way too upset. That was not very usual of her. Urbosa slowly caressed her hair, and Mipha gasped.
“Oh no… should we go comfort him?” she asked, worriedly, and Zelda shook her head.
“I don’t think we could, even if we should. He left this morning after the nurses were certain. We haven’t seen him since” she mumbled, and Revali frowned deeply.
“What do you mean? The hero hasn’t been seen for an entire day and no one is after him?” he asked, with a bit more concern than he had anticipated. Zelda lifted her head and furrowed her eyebrows.
“Do you think we haven’t looked?” she asked, almost angry, and Revali stared right at her. “You think we would just let him go and not do anything about it? There were several guards sent to look, but no one was able to find him. He is an expert in stealth and Hyrule is enormous. But if you think we are making such a poor job, you might as well go and look for him yourself!” she said, loud now, and crossed her arms, looking away from him. Revali frowned and stood up.
“Fine. I will” he said, and before anyone could tell him no, he was already flying away.
Worry was settling on his stomach, and he did not feel good. At all.
The winds guided him around the plains they were camping. He flew up in the sky and looked around, as far as he could see, before heading towards Hyrule castle.
His intentions were good, but he had no idea how to find the hero of Hyrule. Where he could be. He knew nothing of the boy.
He flew around the regions surrounding Castle Town for the entire night. He did not return to the camp, and didn’t make any attempts of contacting the others.
It was already hard enough to find Link on his own, imagine with the other’s help.
At some point, he found himself heading to Zora’s domain, and stopped once he arrived, looking around at the empty bridges. He frowned, but kept walking, slowly, towards the king’s  room.
The king, as usual, was there, despite of apparently all his guards were missing.
“Revali, the Rito Champion” he said, and Revali bowed slowly.
“Sir. I am looking for Link, the hero. Have you seen him anywhere? Has he been through the surroundings of your domain?” he asked, politely, and the king shook his head.
“Unfortunately, no. All my guards are after him as well, by my daughter’s demand. However, since I have known that boy, he has always been fond of forest areas. If I were you, I would look around them”
Revali hummed and nodded, bowing and saying goodbye. As he walked away, however, he saw by the corner of his eyes an open room. Upon coming closer and checking inside, he found an almost perfect zora armor.
Mipha had been wanting to ask someone to marry her… she had been waiting to ask Link to marry her…
Revali had never though she was actually serious about it. However, there he was, seeing the concrete proof.
And there it was, the burning in his veins, again.
The reason becoming clearer and clearer in his mind.
  People did not stay between us, however…
I stayed between us…
Forgive me
 The threat was closer and closer from erupting. Chaos ruled  the land of Hyrule, together with fear and hope.
The princess still had one fountain to visit. She was about to, in a few weeks, on the day of her birth. Before that, however, she was spending some time with the divine beasts and their champions, just to make sure everything was in order.
“You do not need to worry, little princess” Daruk informed as she ran around Rudania, checking every single plug or screw. “This beast will be ready to destroy Ganon, at your command!”
“I-I know” she said, sighing, and all the champions watched her as she sat down by a door, holding her own hands. “I know… But… this makes me more comfortable.”
“You shouldn’t be overthinking it. Your father is making you mad” Urbosa said, clearly angry, but Zelda shook her head. She seemed terrified.
“He is right. I need… I must be able to awaken my powers before… before…”
Link walked forward through them and placed his hands on her shoulders. She looked up with a soft gasp, and then looked at him, tears in her bright green eyes. He smiled at her, and gently wiped her tears away with his thumb.
He did not need to speak, or sign, to make himself be understood.
“He is right. You shouldn’t worry” Urbosa said, and Link nodded as Zelda sniffled and a small smile curled up on her face.
“Why are you so good to me, when all I did was be rude to you?” she asked, softly, and looked at his face again. Link simply smiled. He seemed so… calm. They were all terrified. But Link… Link seemed to know what would happen. Only someone with a clear vision of the future could be so calm at times like those.
That night, they all slept by the stable close to the mountain. They did not sleep at the stable, but outside, around some type of forest in the area. Zelda was the first to fall asleep, followed by Daruk and then Urbosa. Revali pretended to sleep, but was unable to. Mipha and Link stayed awake for quite a while.
“Are you sure you are okay?” he heard Mipha ask at some point. Upon her sigh, he figured he had nodded. “You… you know you can count on me to help you with anything you need, right?”
More silence. This time, she didn’t answer either. Both of them stayed silent.
Then, he heard steps moving away from the camp. He opened his eyes and saw Link walking away. Away from the stable, and away from the group.
Revali checked to see if Mipha was still awake, and waited. Once she had fallen silent, he stood, and made his way towards where Link had left to.
Not many minutes later, he found the hero by one of the goron’s warm lakes. He was staring at the warm water, only his feet inside of it, sword placed comfortably next to him.
“Mind some company?” he asked, and Link looked at him, before he smiled and shook his head. Slowly, he headed towards him, sitting down with his legs crossed, away from the water. “What are you doing out here, so late?”
Revali did not expect an answer.
“Thinking. How about you?”
He took a moment to answer. His ears collected the sound of Link’s voice as it entered them, making almost all the feathers in his body move. He had never heard something so sweet… calm… kind… He could describe the voice for ages, if allowed.
“Couldn’t sleep” he said, and Link hummed, nodding. “What are you thinking about? Ganon?”
“No” he answered, his voice a bit raspy for not using it for a while. “I am thinking about all the foods I did not get to eat”
Revali chuckled quietly as he stared at the water in front of them. Typical.
“You still have time. And it is not like these are the last weeks of our lives” he said. He was trying to stay positive. That was not his forte, he realized. Link just chuckled.
“If I go to your village in one of these last weeks, will you make me some food?” he asked, turning his gaze, and Revali met it.
“Sure. Anything you desire”
“Revali… are we friends?”
He stopped, and looked at Link, a sad sile growing on his face.
“We don’t have time for that”
Link looked at him and then hummed, nodding and looking away again.
He did not speak again.
  She knew, she knew, they all knew…
They all, but not you…
Forgive me
 “Tell him”
Revali looked at the princess as she grabbed him by his scarf. He stared down at her, offended.
“Excuse me?”
“Tell him, Revali” she repeated. “Tell Link how you feel”
He stared at her and then chuckled loudly.
“Really? I don’t know what all the pressure is doing to you, but you are crazy, your h-”
“Don’t do this right now” she said firmly, and pulled him closer until they were nose to beak. “Tell him. Before it’s too late” she said and then pushed him away, making him almost fall.
Then, she walked away, and left Revali all alone.
Perhaps… perhaps she was right.
  I’m sorry…
I’m sorry…
Forgive me…
 “I should have told him”
“I should have told him”
“I should have…”
Another hurricane passed by his hiding spot, making him gasp and recoil some more.
He could see those little machines surrounding the area, trying to locate him.
Revali closed his eyes and took at deep breath. The world was doomed. He couldn’t even defeat part of Ganon. How had he dared say he could be the hero?
It didn’t matter. Not now.
As he closed his eyes, all he could do was wish Link good luck.
And then, it was all gone.
  I’m sorry…
Forgive me…
Remember me…
 “The princess has been waiting an awfully long time…” he said, to the sky, as Link became a spot of light and left Vah Medoh forever.
Revali watched as the light went down to the peak of the Rito village, and kept looking as Link made use of his gift for the first time and flew off with no second glance, no hesitation, ready for a new adventure after one hundred years of deep, deep slumber.
He turned towards the castle and pet Medoh gently.
“You were right, princess… I should have told him. But now, it is too late. Hang on tight. He is coming to save you…”
  “I... I am sorry, Mipha”
The princess of the zora stared at Link as she held out to him the armor of courtship. Her eyes filled up with tears, and she pulled it away.
“You… you love someone else, don’t you?” she whispered, looking down, and he sighed.
“Yes… forgive me…”
“It is… it is okay… I knew as much” she whispered and looked up, smiling weakly. “I hope Revali loves you all the same”
Link smiled weakly.
“He doesn’t know just yet”
Untie Me - Revali x Reader Onshot
"So, Revali," You started casually. "Does this remind you of anything?"
He shot you an unwavering death glare. "Yes: That I need to request a new partner." Then he absentmindedly glanced down at the ropes that bound him before adding, "One that won't get me caught by the entire Yiga Clan."
"I was talking about that time in Zora's Domain, but yeah. That works, too I guess..." You muttered while looking down at your own ropes. "And I want to be mad at your little 'new partner' comment, but I'm too busy being uncomfortable... I am the worst."
"I couldn't agree more." Revali mused quietly. "First, you insist on taking the mission that requires graceful stealth, which we both know you do not possess. Then, you - being your overconfidently clumsy self - dropped your dagger; alerting the entire Yiga cave of our presence!" He chuckled dryly as his gaze wandered up to the stone ceiling of your chambers. "How in the name of Hylia do you achieve that level of failure in one day?"
You rolled your eyes while attempting to hide your embarrassed blush. "Gee, thanks. Because I didn't feel terrible already."
Revali sighed, and his sharp glare softened at your sadness. Such a softy, really. "I'll save the rest of my lecture for later. For now, we need to get out of here." He glanced around the room. "Do you see any way of escape?"
You ignored his question and continued speaking solemnly. "And the worst part is that I need to use the bathroom..."
"(Name), can you focus, please?" Your love pleaded.
You sighed dramatically. "I've been holding it since we left yesterday..."
"(Name)."
Your head shot up as you called out, "Hey! You guys got a bathroom?"
"Really...?" The Rito questioned. You simply shrugged in response; as though you both weren't trapped in a cave deep within the Gerudo Desert.
The door opened to reveal three Swordmasters. "Oh, thank the Goddesses!" You exclaimed as two of them roughly lifted you to your feet and dragged you out of the dimly-lit room. Meanwhile, the third stayed behind to keep an eye on Revali. Thankfully, my legs aren't tied. Poor choice on the Yiga's side of things...
The two Yiga members led you to a room and stared at you expectantly; like you were supposed to open the door with your damn mind. "Oh, ha ha. Now, untie me before I piss myself." You growled. They looked at each other as if to second guessing they're decision. "Oh, C'mon! There's two of you! If I try to run, you'll just slice my head off!" They stayed silent for a few more seconds before one of them cut off the ropes around your arms and chest. "See? No harm in helping a girl out!" You gleamed cheerfully. Then, your happy demeanor changed to one slightly more sinister.
The vibe in the hallway became dark, and the Swordmasters noticed it. They quickly swung their weapons at you, and you were able to dodge the first blade. Unfortunately, the second had barely grazed your shoulder. The adrenaline in your veins made it feel like nothing, but you knew it would hurt later.
You strafed to the left and ran along the stone wall.  The Swordmasters stood in shock as you swiftly turned and jumped off the wall; kicking them both hard in the face. The two large men instantly fell to the floor unconscious, and looked down at them with a smirk.
"Not so tough now, huh?" You taunted. Suddenly, you blinked for a moment because you forgot what you were doing. "Oh, yeah. Duh." You giggled as you silently ran down the hall. You honestly almost forgot about your poor, feathery partner who was waiting for your return.
You turned the corner with haste so you could meet with your arrogant warrior sooner. You soon knocked into something which made you fall onto the ground. "Ow..." You groaned while caressing your back painfully. Your eyes wandered upward to see a feathered hand stretched out to you. With a roll of your eyes, you took the hand and stood up.
"So, how did you escape?" You wondered while being handed your weapons.
Revali shrugged while playing with the string of his bow. "Don't underestimate a great champion such as myself, Love."
"Of course. So, shall we get the hell out of here?" He nodded and led the way.
You both tried your best to be quiet, but excitement began to take hold as you noticed the exit in sight. You took one fast peak around the room before sprinting in the direction of the cave's exit.
"(Name)!"
But it was too late. Yiga had surrounded the two of you while also blocking the only means of leaving. "This is bad..." You muttered.
"Who's fault is that?"
"Yeah, I get it." That's when the pain in your shoulder started to grow. You winced and glared down at your bloodstained arm. "This is bad."
Revali glanced back at you. "You already said that."
"It seemed worth repeating."
A footsoldier was the first to make a move; running toward you with a small scythe-like weapon. You blocked it with one of your daggers, but not without straining your arm even more. Regardless of the excruciating pain, you pushed the Yiga away and took care of the situation without hesitating.
"We need to go." Revali stated.
"Yeah, no shit!"
He gestured to his back, and you pushed away another Yiga before throwing your arms around his neck. With one swift movement, you and Revali were gliding past all the obnoxious footsoldiers below you. "Watch your head." He warned calmly. You ducked a bit as you flew through the cave's opening. A smile spread across your face as the blistering sun hit your face. Usually, you'd complain about how hot it was, but you vowed to never take the sun for granted again. As you slowly let go of Revali to spread your arms out like you were flying on your own, Revali snuck a few glances at you. Sure, you weren't the stealthiest person alive, but you could be somewhat graceful when you weren't paying attention.
Revali landed at the nearest stable and you giggled once your feet touched the ground. "Home free!"
"Not quite." Your partner responded. It made you want to sigh overdramatically, but you didn't because he was right. You still had to report to the castle to tell the princess your original mission was a failure. But at least you could tell her how many Yiga there really were... She wouldn't be happy with that.
"Yeah, well at least we aren't tied up anymore."
Revali wrapped his arms around you, and you rested your head under his chin while he gently kissed your forehead. "Always seeing the glass half full as usual."
"Where would we be if I was as pessimistic as you?" You wondered.
He thought for a moment before smirking. "Well, I'm not completely sure, but I know we wouldn't have gotten tied up if you were a negative person."
"Oh hush." You laughed.
You both stood there quietly in a comforting embrace. It wasn't an unnerving silence, and you just stayed there; enjoying each other's company.
"You're an interesting girl, (Name)."
You looked up at him with a smirk. "That was a bit sudden." You hugged him a bit tighter. "But I guess that's what I fell in love with."
"Yes, and cannot possibly get rid of me." He responded.
You suddenly pushed him away and crossed your arms. "That a challenge I hear?"
