Hey y’all I’ve posted my discord server before but wanted to post it again now that the server is fully up and running. After years in the western industry I realized there’s no dedicated online space for folks in this industry and want to try to change that.

Queer Cowfolks is a space for anyone in the LGBTQIA2S+ community with an interest in the western horse world. Whether it’s riding, ranching, rodeo or just an appreciator of the lifestyle and culture- all are welcome to join regardless of experience or where you’re from.

Along with creating a safe space for folks to hang out, we also have channels for information on events and nonprofit organizations to help folks find a safe community in their area. There’s a master list for equine related organizations welcoming to LGBtQ+ folks as well as two event channels. One channel is for upcoming equine events such as gay rodeos, barrel races, trail rides, etc. The other is for fundraising events that benefit the organizations listed, such as: drag shows, softball games, bake sales, etc.

Also addresses uncomfortable truths about race and colonialism in the wild west mythos in a context that made my brain do a little lightbulb pop to like... the ways in which care jobs, professional cleaning, fast food, retail, and call center work fill a similar niche today, in the sense that many PoC find employment there for the same reason many LGBTQ+ people do and both groups experience a gooey mix of (relative) opportunity and blatant exploitation therein.

Fall flings are somethin a young kid always yearns for in a small town. I had it, for a while in the arms of my ex, but the thing with flings is they aint meant to last, and we didnt. So now 2 years later and this fucking kid waltzes into the forefront of my mind despite us barely talking, nor interacting outside of the narrow aisles of the chain grocery store we rely on for income.

I don't even know if he swings that way, I dunno if he pays me so much as a mind outside of work. Maybe my brain just wants something to focus on that makes existence a little less dreadful. But he. He makes me a little giddy. I get dressed up at work just to hope he pays me a second glance.

I mean, shoot. I made this whole damn blog to talk about my life and instead I'm talking about this boy.

This boy who despite being 2 years older than me holds all the youthful charm; This boy, who despite having a bit too much to drink each night still carries himself high. This boy, who despite my best efforts to avoid gaining connection to any of my coworkers, managed to become my closest friend I've had at work.

I wonder if any of the things he's told me are genuine. I wonder if this genuinely could go anywhere. For now I'm just a boy who's got too many fantasies and not enough answers. Maybe one day I'll shoot my shot.

Quite simply too obsessed with my cowboy ocs since I’m playing red dead online again and I just. Both of them thinking the other is dead for nearly a decade before Jesse hunts Wilde down in Saint Denis and sobs in his arms after they find one another again after all of this time. He is radio silent with the rest of the crew for nearly a week, even if he said he’d tell them what’s up. He’s too wrapped up in his lost lover to think of anything outside the walls of the hotel they’re in.

Jesse finding Santina and the others to tell them that there’s gonna be a new member of their crew, they’d probably be skeptical at first, but the first fight they’re all in together. Oh god are they instantly a little scared of this little blonde almost 40 year old laughing with the adrenaline of a rough bounty. A bit more scary when Jesse and Wilde are phenomenal fighters when together.

Wanted to share some art I recently finished up!

The New Mexico Gay Rodeo Association held a poster contest and I decided to enter with the only medium I’m decent at, which is leatherwork. Unfortunately it didn’t win, but it did place top three!

It took me about 40 hours, and is fully hand carved leather with acrylic paint for color. Overall I’m pleased with how it turned out, and am excited to put it on my wall. I’m thinking I’ll build it a leather frame.

As I am writing this right now, I still exist in that dreamlike anticipation prior to the UK general election. I don’t know yet what the results will bring, but I sure am tense about it. And so, it has been helpful to delve into an eensy bit of escapism. Video games do an alright job with taking one’s mind off things, and today I am especially grateful for Robert Yang’s Gay Western Game Jam. The jam took inspiration from a period of late-1800s American imperial expansion, but made it gay. All cowfolk are welcome here; all interpretations. What might The Old West look like if it were tweaked a bit? What new stories can be told about riding horses, or gay kissing, or the seemingly-endless American landscape?

Queer stories of reclamation and redemption are often about identity, and so there is a sort of power in queer stories about land, space, and the American west. The Gay Western Jam only just wrapped up, so these picks are fresh from the game jam mines.
