it is so funny that they released ow2 after leaving ow1 developmentally dead in the water for a couple months "because well get pve in 2 so we need to make the new engine for that", then not ship pve with 2 while also implementing a shitty battle pass among numerous other cash grabs (the fucking souvenir system? lmao), continuously putting pve further and further into the future only to NOW announce pve is probably not gonna happen at all

even after all the updates polishing stuff up I still think elden ring needed another year, at least, in the oven. fromsoft even said themselves that they didn't have the time to apply what they learned from making sekiro because of how close the two games are to each other in the timeline/production-wise, but imagine if they had the breathing room to do that

like...the quality of the gyoubu fight but applied to the tree sentinel/night's cavalry, or literally anything they learned about making it Actually Fun to fight bosses that can chain 150 attacks together by giving the player real ways to respond other than rolling, or how to make a camera that works

with all the pvp toxicity going on recently i’ve seen a lot of people say stuff along the lines of "pve players are better because at least we dont harass bungie directly” and listen… pvp players are definitely more toxic right now but saying pve players have never harassed bungie employees is just not true. the only reason writers dont get harassed about their writing currently is bc its considered “good” now. ive been in the destiny community for a long time and ive seen the mindset towards its writing gradually shift from “the story is shit” to “the lore is good but the main plot is bad” to “the lore and main plot are both good” and only now are writers beginning to be open about which parts they have specifically written. back in the day you would just straight up not know who wrote what lore because no one wanted to get harassed for what they had written. the one writer who was open about what pieces of lore he had written, seth dickinson, was harassed so badly that he nuked his entire social media presence back in 2018 (and he still has not returned). the people who harassed him are still around; they’re less popular than they were back then but still have a significant following. im not saying this to call anyone a hypocrite or anything, but just to gently remind people that we are not immune to being dicks just because we’re pve players
