This is my butterfly, my butterfly is special, it is unique. My butterfly reminds me everyday how far i have come and that I still have so much of my story left to write.
But my butterfly holds a secret.
It is magical.
It can become any colour it wishes.
Mental health is not to be taken lightly, it is dangerous, it is lethal, it is a silent deadly killer.

Okay this is a weirdly specific pet peeve but; I hate it when (professional) authors (who could do better) just cobble together a 'fantasy language' that is clearly just latin/ german/ [insert mainstream non-english european language here] by spelling the words weirdly/ overly phonetically. It's extra annoying when they then- by not doing their due diligence- end up muddling conjugations; and creating false languages with English grammar; mispelled words from [european language]; and somehow, 5 grammatical 'genders' because they've just been borrowing 'default' versions of languages.
The worst part is that I can't even be that pissed because I am equally lazy when it comes to language crafting but if you're not gonna try,, just don't try ;-;. I'd rather have author's notes explaining how "This phrase is actually translated from a made up language and more literally could be translated as this"; than some unhinged attempt at esperanto for your one shot minimal lore romantasy. Like, not every fantasy book needs a language!! Tolkien was just a dedicated nerd!!

Personal work for a world building project
Meet the fenstokes! A domestic breed of pet popular for its coloration, disease hardiness, and friendly disposition.
Notes:
The fenstokes are a species of small domestic pet found all across civilized space. Through the centuries it has been selectively bred for its coloration with over 52 recognized distinct breeds. They are most popular as pets within former Truatari territory as a low maintenance and hardy pet for desert planets. Fenstokes also boast religious significance in many of these regions.
HISTORY: Despite its popularity much of the species history was lost following the red sun collapse. What system or ecosystem the fenstokes originally belonged to is completely unknown as related species have yet to be re-identified. What is known is that they became a popular hobby pet among spacefarers during the early stages of colonization. These pioneers selectively bred for sociability and looks among other things. Regions quickly began developing distinct fenstokes that were in high demand for a booming population. Fenstoke fanciers became increasingly common, and with them, conformation shows. Demand drove high prices for elite winners of these tournaments, that subsequently drove even more diversity within the species. This diversity pushed the species further in to the dependence of sentient races.
During its height, an estimated 119 breeds were recognized. One of the most famous fenstokes of all time is a north summit pygmy sunspot named Suzu, who survived the red sun collapse and is living out her senior years under a compassionate caretaker. Other such notable breeds include the mellow baldiva, the vaseneck zaggler, and the majestic lock-neck breeds who were said to be able to knot their own necks, twice!
However, even before the collapse the popularity of fenstokes was beginning to wane in favor of more refined pets such as the ghorlen and huji laten. Fenstokes also became less popular due to the increasing association with the estranged affluent, their inability to survive without being catered to left a bad taste in the mouths of many.
Today fenstokes are a semi-common sight in most wealthier cities and towns. They are not found on any planet in the wild with one exception; Archola. There the wealthier denizens respect the fenstokes and their spacefaring history as a symbol of Omelian religion and regularly provide food, water, and shelter to them. This in turn has become a sort of tourist attraction for wealthy pilgrims and their families.
BIOLOGY: Fenstokes are rather small, averaging just 1ft (0.3m) in length with a similar wingspan. The giant fenstokes clock much larger, at around 3ft (1m) in length from beak to tail. They have a six-part beak that is able to move food towards the gullet. They are slow movers and cannot fly, but they are decent climbers and gliders. Their movement is bat like with back wings and front arms being used to facilitate locomotion. Because of their lack of competitive traits fenstokes rely completely on others to survive. They will eat most foods as an opportunistic omnivore but have a notable preference towards salty street foods.
Reproduction is semi-slow. They give birth to live young that are mostly developed and ready to glide and eat within hours of being born. They will only raise their young for a short period of time before abandoning interest.
DOMESTICATION: The species is naturally non-aggressive and readily social towards sentient creatures. They imprint on those that provide for their needs. Being non-social with their own kind, fenstokes don’t display any aggressive or defensive behaviors towards others and are readily kept together. They can be taught simple tricks and recall.
Although not the smartest or the most graceful, they are notoriously loyal to their owners.

Anyways...I think it's time for me to finally do the angsty ones.
Daily Hobie HC!
In all honesty, I feel like Hobie's can go- like, numb, if something happens that upsets him. It can take him a lot of trust to open up with his negative emotions/to cry in front of someone. Otherwise, he just stays quiet, kinda- yk, isolates, and overall just goes numb.
Also he definitely got bullied as a kid- and I feel like that'd also stem into some of his thoughts as Spiderman now. For example, a personal hc of mine is that he absolutely hates the silent treatment. He'd rather talk it out that silence it to grow and worsen because as a kid nobody wanted to listen to him.
And since nobody listened, I feel like he'd probably think, at a young age, that he didn't matter. I mean, he was the youngest out of his many siblings, and had to raise himself (from what I've read from multiple people- idk if it is actually true or not).
Those thoughts probably twisted into a fear of abandonment, since he wants to matter as much to a person, like they matter to him.
(I'm just self-projecting atp oh god)
Little note- I feel like he would have a lotus flower tattoo either on his upper-arm/shoulder, or somewhere on his back. Look close enough and there's a little semi-colon hidden in there too.
(I SHOWED THESE TO MY FRIEND AND THEY TOLD ME "Are you sure you're not just this universe's Hobie Brown variant?" ..I didn't realize I was self-projecting THAT MUCH LMAO)

okay so like --
(warning for discussions of suicidal ideation/self harm. not in any graphic amounts but mentioned frequently. under the cut because i talked way too long, Grant Wilson and Lark Oak-Garcia Give Me Feelings.)
tl;dr: lark and grant have matching semi-colon tattoos to honor each other. if you wanna hear All Of My Thoughts, journey on, but thats the gist of it gjhbfhjgbhjdf
i have said before that i do not think grant and lark would get along very well. i do stand by this. however i also think theyre both clingy motherfuckers, the kiddads are codependent and i believe this with all my heart, and so they are still friends even if they bicker like hell. i also think they both had a lot of mental health issues throughout high school and have some lopsided bond over being "the guys in the friend group to go to the psych ward" (all of the kiddads are like Bad Mentally but i just find that grant and lark are the most. uh. Clearly Suicidal so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i like to project my high school mental health onto grant and lark is. lark.)
i think at first, theres a lot of friction between them about this since i do think darryl and henry would try to push them to like. Be Supportive And Helpful to one another about this shared issue. i could spiral into a whole other conversation about that, i have a jghfbghjbdhj far too elaborate internal world about high school kiddads but all we need to know here is That Does Not Work. grant and lark do NOT fix each other, they definitely make each other worse bhjbfhjgbhjfdbgjd like i said! i dont think they get along! i think grant would project his own issues onto lark, and i think lark would call him out on that, and they would argue about it. they do NOT talk about mental health with one another or in general
but as time goes on and they both start doing better (again, projecting my own mental health onto grant but in a positive way now - despite relapses, i do think hes in a much better state of mind once hes an adult, and i think the same of lark. theyre not GOOD but i do not see them as like, actively suicidal as adults. theyre managing! we love that for them!), probably around senior year of high school or a year after that, lark reaches out to try and make amends for their issues with one another in high school. they dont usually like, Hang Out Alone, ever, but lark convinces grant to come over while lark gives himself a stick and poke tattoo. awkwardly hanging out alone in lark's room and picking their way through conversation. normal 18- to 19-year-olds stuff
i dont know if theyre like... still a big thing, but i know when i was in high school, the semi-colon on the wrist was a big symbol for mental health and showing support for those struggling. and i just really like the thought of lark going "i was gonna give myself a semi-colon tattoo" "oh, because youre doing better?" "no, because youre doing better, grant. its dedicated to you" (all of lark's tattoos are dedicated to other people but that. again. a whole other conversation i could spiral into) and grant just gets. really choked up about it. and rather impulsively goes "can you give one to me as well? so i can honor you."
and so grant's only tattoo matches lark's, and its a semi-colon that they both have on their wrist. i think i put lark's on his right the few times i've drawn it, i think grant's would probably also be on his right wrist but that doesn't matter too much ghbfdhgbdfjh i just think theres something really beautiful about honoring the continued life and well-being of someone youve not always gotten along with, but who still means the world to you. grant and lark, i think, would have a deep understanding of each other in a lot of ways, and i just think about that A Lot(tm)
also i think its fun to imagine grant having a Gay Moment over lark having to be all up in his space while giving him a tattoo but this whole concept isnt really meant to be shippy so fgbfjdhjh thats more an idle background thought

Hello this is more of a question than a request but what advice would you give to a person trying to become a writer that does requests and reader scenarios?
hii!! im sorry for how late im replying to this :< thank u so much for ur patience!!
i apologize if this is clunky but i think the main, and important thing, is to write for yourself. i first started writing because i had little ideas banging in my head and i didnt know how to ask others to write it so i tried to give writing a go and was so, so surprised to see the traction it received. writing is so fun for me – i use it as escapism and as a medium to project things about myself (or parallels to whats happening irl). its so important to write for urself bc it truly reduces the chances of burnout :’>
stemming from writing for yourself is writing how you want to. i butcher so much of the rules that goes into writing because i want to express the way the moment occurs in my head. i overuse hyphens and semi-colons because the formal use of periods and commas just dont cut it anymore. sometimes i utilize run-ons to express curt dialogues or thoughts. i overuse italics too. i also got lazy to the point that i dont capitalize whats needed to be capitalized. the rules that go into writing are all necessary jargon, yes, but they are ones that are not mirroring the way i want it to sound so throw caution into the wind and write how you want.
i emphasize you-centric type of advices because i think these lay the foundation that u can always fall back to when need be. for example, im currently submerged in writers block rn so what i do is i write little rambles or even character studies because it helps me form ideas for bigger projects and helps me cultivate my interests.
these are the two that helped me the most. of course there are other things that need to be taken into account when writing but i really just wanna emphasize again that writing should be fun for the writer.

It was his own moment in a month-long protest beginning with the shit-throwing. A moment to seize the possibility of vulgarity that breaks the lines of authority, the fountain of piss flagrantly rejoins the flow of water through all bodies and all spheres.
The freedom to piss on the cement of Empire asserts that the body of the construction worker and the body of the shack-dweller inhabit the same earth as the Empire, and that cement, ultimately, is a political subject. As is diamond-bearing kimberlite, and gas-bearing shale. [...]

In 1862's 'Rome and Jerusalem,' perhaps the earliest Zionist text, Moses Hess asked France to "help the Jews to found colonies which may extend from Suez to Jerusalem and from the banks of the Jordan to the coast of the Mediterranean." 2/
In late August 1898, the Second Zionist Congress established the Jewish Colonial Trust, the financial arm of the World Zionist Organization and the first official Zionist bank. In 1902, the Anglo-Palestine Company Ltd. was founded as a subsidiary of the Jewish Colonial Trust. 3/
In 1902, Theodor Herzl, father of political Zionism, begged Cecil Rhodes to support the Zionist project and facilitate Jewish settlement of Palestine. Zionism was in Britain's imperial interest, Herzl suggested, "Because it is something colonial." 4/
Revisionist Zionist leader Vladmir Jabotinsky, who founded and led the Irgun militia, wrote explicitly in his 1923 Zionist manifesto, "The Iron Wall," that "Zionism is a colonization adventure and therefore it stands or it falls by the question of armed force." 5/
Jabotinsky also wrote, "Zionist colonization, even the most restricted, must either be terminated or carried out in defiance of the will of the native population," and that it was "necessary to carry on colonization against the will of the Palestinian Arabs." 6/
One of the leading Zionist organizations supporting the Yishuv (Jewish settlers) in Mandatory Palestine was the Palestine Jewish Colonization Association, established in 1924. (It was originally founded in 1891 as the Jewish Colonization Association.) 7/
The Jewish Agency, formed in 1929 by the 16th Zionist Congress, was (and is still) tasked with increasing Jewish immigration to Palestine. Its fundraising arm originally operated under the auspices of World Zionist Organization's aptly-named "Colonization Department." 8/
On October 5, 1937, David Ben-Gurion - later Israel's first prime minister - sent a letter to his son Amos in which he wrote that "Palestine...contains vast colonization potential which the Arabs neither need nor are qualified (because of their lack of need) to exploit." 9/
In mid-1947, the Jewish Agency presented its position to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine. It declared "industrial development in Palestine" was "part of...the migration of industry from the old industrial countries to colonial or semi-colonial territories." 10/
During the presentation, Chaim Weizmann-later Israel's 1st president-stated, "As compared with the result of the colonizing activities of other peoples, our impact on the Arabs has not produced very much worse results than what has been produced by others in other countries." 11/
Moshe Shertok-Israel's 2nd prime minister-boasted of Zionism to the UNSCOP, saying "it will not be easy to find an instance in the history of colonization where a large scale settlement scheme has been conducted with so much respect for the interests of existing population." 12/
Clearly, Zionism's colonial nature was explicit from the outset and was leveraged as a selling point to gain European support. When colonialism began to lose legitimacy, the term was retired.
So don't ever claim that "we Zionists never called ourselves colonialists."

In 1891 leading Zionist thinker Asher Ginsburg (Ahad Ha'am) wrote that "when the life of our people in Palestine will develop to such an extent as to push out, to a small or large extent, the indigenous population of the country, then not easily will they give up their place." 2/
In 1898, Theodor Herzl recognized that, in order to establish a "Jewish state" in Palestine, the inconvenient indigenous population would have to be removed. “We shall try to spirit the penniless [Palestinian Arab] population (i.e. Arab) across the border," he wrote. 3/
Israel Zangwill, British leader of the Jewish Territorialist Organization (ITO), wrote in 1904 of "a difficulty from which the Zionist dare not avert his eyes, though he rarely likes to face it." It was that "Palestine proper has already its inhabitants." 4/
So what was his solution? "We must be prepared...to drive out by the sword the tribes in possession as our forefathers did."
Similarly, Chaim Weizmann referred to Palestinians as "the rocks of Judea, as obstacles that had to be cleared on a difficult path." 5/
his 1926 address to Nat'l Conference of the United Palestine Appeal in Boston, Weizmann said Palestinians "are in the country, and have been there for ages. We are the newcomers and have to become part and parcel of the country. We are planting a new people in the country. 6/
In 1929, early Labor Zionist intellectual Berl Katznelson declared, "Zionist enterprise is an enterprise of conquest," admitting that "it is by no chance that I use military terms when speaking of settlement." 7/
In 1930, Menachem Usshishkin, a powerful early pioneer of Zionism and leading member of the Jewish National Fund, stated, "If there are other inhabitants there [in Palestine], they must be transferred to some other place. We must take over the land." 8/
in 1936, Ussishkin commented, "Now the [Palestinian] Arabs do not want us because we want to be the rulers. I will fight for this. I will make sure that we will be the landlords of this land...because this country belongs to us not to them." 9/
In 1936, another leading Zionist, Arthur Ruppin, who led colonization efforts through the Jewish National Fund, declared, "On every site where we purchase land and where we settle people, the present cultivators will inevitably be dispossessed." 10/
In June 1937, David Ben-Gurion wrote to Jewish Agency head Moshe Shertok, "Were I an Arab...I would rebel even more vigorously, bitterly, and desperately against the immigration that will one day turn Palestine and all its Arab residents over to Jewish rule." 11/
Ben-Gurion told the 20th Zionist Congress in August 1937, "New Jewish settlement will not be possible unless there is a transfer of the Arab peasantry," adding, "Jewish power in the country...will also increase our possibilities to carry out the transfer on a large scale." 12/
At the November 21, 1937 meeting of Jewish Agency's Transfer Committee, Yosef Weitz, Land Department chief at the Jewish National Fund, boasted that "transfer" not only "diminish[es] the Arab population," but also "release[s] it for Jewish inhabitants." 13/
In 1938, Ben-Gurion reaffirmed these sentiments: "Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves. Politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves. The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down." 14/
At the same time, Ussishkin insisted, "We cannot start the Jewish state with...half the population being Arab...Such a state cannot survive even half an hour." Regarding the forcible ethnic cleansing of over sixty thousand Palestinian families, he added: "It is most moral." 15/
Ruppin agreed: "I do not believe in the transfer of individuals. I believe in the transfer of entire villages." He also wrote, "Land is the most necessary thing for establishing roots in Palestine...We are bound in each case...to remove the peasants who cultivate the land." 16/
Moshe Shertok, Jewish Agency chief and later Israel's second prime minister, said, "We have forgotten that we have not come to an empty land to inherit it, but we have come to conquer a country from people inhabiting it." 17/
On March 20, 1941, the Jewish Agency's Yosef Weitz wrote, "The complete evacuation of the country from its other inhabitants and handing it over to the Jewish people is the answer." 18/
In 1941, Weitzmann told Ivan Maisky, Soviet ambassador to England, that "if half a million Arabs could be transferred, two million Jews could be put in their place. That, of course, would be a first installment; what might happen afterwards [would be] a matter for history." 19/
In a 1941 memorandum entitled "Outlines of the Zionist Policy", Ben-Gurion recognized that "the majority of the Arabs could hardly be expected to leave voluntarily," noting, "Complete transfer without compulsion – and ruthless compulsion, at that – is hardly imaginable." 20/
Founder and longtime president of the World Jewish Congress Nahum Goldmann recalled Ben-Gurion saying in 1956, "Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country." 21/
In 1969, Moshe Dayan declared, "Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages...There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population." 22/
Again, Zionism is a colonial ideology that explicitly relies on the forceful removal of the native population from its homeland. To live in peace with those you have displaced, dispossessed & disenfranchised, you must guarantee equal rights for all. 23/END

This is prob a longer answer than you expected but here it is. I am much more of an album listener than a playlist listener. I like to put on an album or artist and just get immersed in their work one at a time. Especially bc I feel like streaming has sort of taken away from the experience of albums as cohesive works. Here’s the Julien Baker album that has been stuck in my brain on repeat recently. Love a sad, existential record.
Playlists are also great though and I will def put on a playlist to run to or have in the background, etc. And I admire people who can curate great playlists!
And here’s where I’ll admit to my deep and abiding love of Taylor Swift and her songwriting. My longest fandom experience is with her work. So. Here’s a playlist called Taylor Swift bridges that are god-tier bc that woman can write a fucking bridge like no one else.

lol. 10. And thanks for indulging me by adding this question and letting me talk about it. I am a copy editor as a career and also as a hobby. I have loved words and language as long as I can remember, and I think I find more joy in helping other people wrangle and finesse their writing until it says just exactly what they want it to say than in writing my own work. I’ve told you this, but the fact that editing is a solitary activity that is also inherently very collaborative is perfect for my personality. There is also something that is just so satisfying to me about a perfectly punctuated sentence with smooth syntax and prosody that also communicates meaning effectively. A well-used semi-colon is sexy. And I love standing in as an advocate for the reader to make sure their experience is as close to what the author intends as possible. I could go on.

God. This is the longest fic I’ve ever read by a wide margin, but it has become so special to me I have to shout it out:
Here’s what I wrote in my AO3 bookmark for it: Author takes us from intimate, provincial romance to epic, sweeping action/tragedy so deftly I can’t even believe it. I’ve never been so invested in an original side character or cried harder reading a fic. This one is special.
It’s a story about the two of them falling in love slowly and messily with lots of false starts and obstacles that deals with identity and grief and longing and self-loathing and forgiveness and has a Mobius backstory where he contends with queer prejudice in 1990s America and it also includes hot smut and I just cannot recommend it enough. (It’s technically not finished but very close to and there are over 200k words published.)

Idk if this is a head canon so much as just the way I personally read the text of the show but: Mobius has religious trauma and his experience with the TVA is akin to fundamentalist Christian indoctrination. Loki is the spark that helps him begin to deconstruct and heal and wake up to himself and what he actually wants.
Also: Loki LOVES having his hair played with and Mobius loves to have his hands in Loki’s hair.

Mmm, idk about one piece of media but, as a medium, song lyrics and poetry. Anything I’ve started writing lately has usually been sparked by a lyric. I feel like lyrics are able to evoke much more complex stories in so few words, which I think is magical.

“The water. I like it hot. Don’t be afraid to turn it up.”
“Oh, sure. Can do.” Get it together, Mobius.

Immediately? Hmm, well, I will say when a fic has something in the summary like “Where Loki doesn’t turn into a dumb tree and they can actually be together,” I will not click to begin with. I’m happy to read certain kinds of fix-its or universes where the ending is different or not relevant, but if an author is actively throwing shade at the canon ending, I just assume we have such different readings of the show that what we want from a fic probably doesn’t align very well.

Nancy wasn’t one to be vulnerable. Sure she had a few flings with Steve and Jonathan, but it wasn’t until she saw you that she really felt something. Nancy wasn’t some lovesick fool, you weren’t perfect. No one is. But it’s something about you that made her feel… warm. But that warmth quickly raised to a boil when she saw you around other people. She wasn’t sure if she hated you or not. You made her hate everyone that came in contact with you. You were like a parasite, completely stuck to her, taking over her mind. You made her feel so… confused, that didn’t sit well with her. Nancy was constantly in control, there was a time and a place for everything but around you it was pure chaos.

After school you went over to Mike’s House to play DND. About 2 hours in the phone rung upstairs and Mrs.Wheeler called you. “Your mother called, the teacher called saying you’re failing a class!” You huffed, you were never good at that class, but last you checked you had a B-… it was weird. You heard footsteps coming down the steps and turned to see Mike’s older sister. The two of you never interacted much, other than those weird stares she had been giving you for all these weeks. The two of you went into her room, she gestured for you to sit on her bed. “So, what is it that you struggle with?” You shrugged, “Grammar, spelling and semi colons and all that bullshit.”In all honesty you were a little scared of her. After the whole Will thing she changed, sure you never knew her before. But Barb talked about her a lot. Barb… maybe that’s why Nancy changed, you can’t judge a book by its cover after all.
After a few hours of studying you finally understood the topic and thanked Nancy. You were getting ready to leave when Nancy breeched your actions with her soft, yet demanding voice “Wait! Did you ever start the book? Frankenstein?” You shook your head. You were fairly good at reading things in a short time frame. Reading it so soon would only make you forget it later after all. But what’s a few more hours? Plus Nancy was… nice! Odd, but nice.
“For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart…” Nancy read aloud. Me and her alike felt this, mutual fear but familiarness when it came to Victor Frankenstein. His creation, his child, a monster. One he made while blinded by the light of his innocence. Nancy looked really upset, so, you recommended stopping there and studying together tomorrow. She agreed.

The next day at school, you questioned your teacher about why exactly you failed. “What are you talking about? You’re actually doing extremely well. After this essay, I bet your B- will go straight to an A!” You were happy, who wouldn’t be, but she called, didn’t she? You shrugged it off, mayhaps she called the wrong parent. The school was huge, it wasn’t that unlikely.
You went into the lunch room, thank god. 45 minutes of free time. You usually sat with the boys. But they weren’t there? Perhaps they were with Mr. Clarke, some science project probably. You peered around the lunchroom for a place to sit. You felt eyes burning, seemingly through your soul, you turned around to see Nancy. She wouldn’t mind if you sat there, right? Nancy wasn’t one for small talk, in fact she stayed silent as you spoke with Steve about the many hilarious ventures him and Robin got into during their summer jobs.
Robin, speaking of her… “Hey Nance!” Robin came, seemingly out of nowhere and sat on Nancy’s lap. Wheeler broke her unwavering glaze over to her. “Oh get off of me,” she chuckled. “Hey Y/N!” You waved in a reply. Right. They were dating. How could you forget.
