I came to the realization a while back that for some reason at least one character in every piece of media I ever hyperfixated on has died and come back to life at least once, so I figured why not pit them all against each other!

Rules:

the character must have died and come back to life

No real people or characters from Harry Potter

Feel free to submit multiple characters, but please don't nominate the same character more than once!

You can submit multiple characters from the same piece of media (each as their own nomination)

While the "tell me more" question is technically optional, the more you ramble about them the better! Provided information will be used in the tournament as built-in propaganda :)

Robots are allowed if they are treated as sentient beings in the source material and/or have a dramatic and emotional death scene

Use your discretion if time travel is involved, things get complicated (I was including examples but it got too long, so rule of thumb- if it feels like A Death in a significant way then you're probably good, as long as it's the same version of the person that comes back)

Something so so so special about the trope of a group of characters that are a Team. Even when every character has a distinct personality, they still can't be separated from the idea of their Team, and no matter who the most popular is, each member of the Team has a fan following, and everyone who enjoys that media can list their favorite member of the Team. I love it so much I love Teams of characters

I was working on my next fic and the phrase "Oh, I'm gonna fuck 'em up" came out of my mouth (both referring to the characters and the readers with the angst I'm writing) and I just started cackling with glee.

(Sometimes I think it's probably a good thing that I'm a pacifist/really not into hurting people's feelings irl. Because I could do some damage.)

God. What I love. What I FUCKING LOVE about Power Rangers 2017 is that...they’re just five lost teenagers, searching for something more. For belonging. Searching for acceptance. And they just...they’ll fucking die for each other. Literally. They say it and mean it. And they’ll die to save the world. Not because of whatever inner anguish they all possess, but because it’s right. And they fucking love it. They love each other. This is, what, 11 days they’ve been together. But they come together and are this amazing family who just happen to kick major ass with SO MUCH heart and determination. The world has been so hard for them, but they want to save it all the same. Despite the world’s flaws, they want to save it. It’s theirs. And they want to save each other. They deeply believe in one another. They come to believe in their own humanity. In themselves. These kids who, at the start of the movie, don’t believe in themselves. And you get to the end of the movie, after the final fight scene, and they’re just so happy. Are their problems all resolved? No. But...they have something. Together. I hate that the tagline “Together We Are More” wasn’t actually in the movie, because it’s sooo fitting. They are more together. They’re their best selves together. And yeah, Stand By Me always makes me tear up, but so does the end scene when we see them thriving. Maybe they aren’t forgiven for their past mistakes (minus Trini who made none), but they just...they’re better. Because of each other, and because of who they are, and it’s just so fucking beautiful. I love this movie.

And I’m forever heartbroken that we don’t get more. The end is so bittersweet for that. I just love that I’m not alone in this, that there’s a community here that all gets it, and shares in it, even if we drift into other fandoms. It’s like...deep down we’re all still here, we’re all still fans of this amazing movie. It’s like we pass each other in the hallways of tumblr, secretly smiling to each other, because we know. We know. And we don’t need anyone to tell us differently.

I just...fucking love this movie.

Couple Angsts and Fandoms Response

Lucy and Tim broke up on the Rookie last night, but I'm feeling oddly detached from the sadness and anger that many in the fandom seem to be experiencing. I thought Melissa and Eric did a magnificent job and I'm intrigued on where the show is taking their characters and relationship, but I'm not worried that this break is permanent.

Is this a function of age or have I simply gone through this often enough with other fandoms that I know how to ride the waves and just enjoy the story?

I'm trusting the process even though I'm a 90s kid and I remember when shows toyed with fans emotions and rarely provided a satisfactory payoff. Kimberly sending Tommy a Dear John letter on Power Rangers. Janeway and Chakotay being flirted with during the entire run, just to have Chakotay and Seven be a couple in the end out of no where on Voyager. Buffy killing Angel to save the world right when he got his soul back. He comes back later on, but their relationship is never the same.

How would you personally adapt Chojin Sentai Jetman as a power rangers story?
