But also, the necklace thing is like.. a metaphor for not being able to move on.

(also if it were me in y/n's shoes, and shoto found the necklace + asked why I kept it, I would explain it as:
"I kept it so that when I worked through the trauma, I would bury it, toss it in the ocean or burn it as a form of catharsis. Like burning your scholly papers even you graduate or something.")

If I was thrown in a cell and nearly died + experienced the screams and knowing shoto could be one of them, I would've taken the second chance Kino gave me and done my best.
But that's me. I'm not yn, and I completely get where she's coming from and how there's only so much you can endure.
I just wish it translated better that I would do what it takes for Shoto... I love the way you describe him. My favorite is 'frusttatingly beautiful.' He really is stunning.

Ok I'm gonna give each of them a "pro" list as I think through this chaos just for the fun of it.
Piercer!Touya (going with Touya to make things a little easier lmao)
Knows his way around a needle, has access to tools (aka he might not show up bare handed iykwim)
Blood will not make him woozy
Probably has a little bit of a sadist side, so his adrenaline might jump higher in a fight
This man has a 5 for 5$ deal that actually gets customers, so his rizz is just a bonus. If he's seen throwing hands, who knows who might come out of the woodwork to throw the nearest object to help him out (ie, linecook!Sanji with a skillet or something)
Line cook!Dabi
Has armor against taunts (food service, thick hide against people who yell at him)
Speaking of food service, this man has a few good years worth of pent up rage just ready to fly loose at a moment's notice. He might come out of that fight with that annoying tick in his jaw finally relaxed.
Good with his hands from flipping pancakes all day, high dexterity. Pow pow swoos lolz
Probably has hands experience bc of beef with linecook!Sanji, so fighting isn't anything new.
I'm gonna say Piercer!Touya hit up Waffle House after work for breakfast (it's 6pm) and linecook!Dabi has just had a foul day. His last cig was gone by noon, someone stole his stash of vodka hidden in the prep fridge, and Sanji ordered a dozen specials under a fake name and then never came to pick up the food (his check obviously bounced), so all that work for nothing. Besides that, the flat top hasn't been working most of the day and he doesn't get paid to be a maintenance man so who cares if people are getting half cooked food. Not his problem.
So when Touya gets his drippy ass pancakes, he makes a fuss. Dabi doesn't give a single fuck and makes that very clear. Long story short, no refund for Touya equals a bad day for both of them.
There is a long drawn out bout of broken knuckles and hair pulling and shin kicking. They literally breakthe last leg on all three (there's only three) of Waffle House's shoddy tables. There's a very short dance battle on the counter that almost ends the fight completely before Dabi laughs at Touya for tripping, where immediately Dabi loses a tooth from a sucker punch. Then Touya gets a burn on his left cheek🍑 when the fight makes its way into the kitchen and the flattop makes its own miraculous recovery.
The last leg of the fight however is very calm, chill if I must say.
Linecook!Dabi locks Piercer!Touya in the freezer and refuses to let him out until he agrees to fuck off. It takes a whole forty six minutes for Touya to cave.
LINE COOK!DABI IS VICTORIOUS!
ik he would pull through, you cannot underestimate those line cooks 😭 but the three tables in waffle house, touya getting a burn on his asscheek, and then touya taking a whole 46 minutes to cave had me CRYING 😭

I feel like BNHA was created much like other “superpower” media. (Long post. Sorry)
Which is to say, with little thought to proper in depth world building.
Particularly egregious though because there was little thought into how “4-ish” is the generalised manifestation period. I mean at least Xmen had it a puberty thing!
Also, while I don’t expect every single writer to think of all the things, there are some very serious repercussions to “quirks at 4”. A) a four year old doesn’t have the required cognisance to fully deal with their quirk, I mean imagine a Telepathic 4 year old, there is no way of instilling a sense of privacy in a child who probably still follows their mama into the toilet, or any of the 4 year old with highly destructive powers.
What about mental illness? Like imagine a person with major depressive disorder who is an empath. Imagine someone with Schizophrenia with telepathy. Someone with Bipolar having a strength, or speed quirk, Or a sadist with fire pow- oh Hello Endeavor
Because as someone with bipolar I think about MI in BNHA a lot. Because things like Schizophrenia only really manifest in a persons 20’s, so if it’s a telepath… who is used to hearing surface level thoughts from others starts hearing Intrusive Thoughts and thinks they are coming from someone else there is huge potential for issues
And like the other anon said, countries may have a way of “dealing” with quirked people as they see fit,
Even Japan has a false dichotomy: you are nothing without your Quirk… but you cannot use your Quirk unless you’re a hero. Even if your Quirk is supremely helpful for everyday things like… clearing Black Ice off of a dangerous road.
Sciences other than mechanical seem to have stagnated since the Dawn of Quirks, and what if Healing Quirked people don’t want to go into medicine which relies heavily on such quirks, or is a haemophiliac or can’t handle wounds?
From a writing standpoint, I'm just going to say that it's absolutely impossible to account for every single issue and/or possibility when world-building. And that sometimes attempting to can actively harm the story you're trying to tell.
Sometimes you leave things vague because it's a helpful tool that might come in handy in the future and it keeps you from writing yourself into too deep of a corner with no way out besides disregarding the rules of the universe you created.
Now when it comes to quirk manifestation it's less you get your quirk at 4 and more by 4 you should have manifested your quirk.
Which are two things that sound similar but are actually different.
And there's a certain level of assumption going into how quirks work on our part as it's generally believed that you adapt at least some degree of protection from your own quirk.
(Dabi is an outlier/extreme example of a young quirk user pushing past physical boundaries and beyond the acceptable threshold of usage that came with his quirk with horrific results)
And while quirks developing from birth to 4 can have massive impacts as you said to issues like future mental health and the like, having quirks develop so early allows individuals to live and grow and develop alongside their ability.
(For example, Bakugou's explosion was shown as notably weaker when he was younger and it grew in power as he aged and trained.)
The alternative to that would be, as you said X-men type activations instead which would involve waking up one morning at 12-14 with the ability to spit acid or suddenly growing frog features or whatever and just generally being forced to undergo a secondary, and much more horrific and dangerous, type of puberty. This would forever alter your previously established relationship with not only your surroundings but your own body. An early activation allows for there to either be no trauma as the person is born with their ability or it gives a much greater chance for trauma to be forgotten/worked through/adapted to/etc.
(When it comes to X-Men it's long been argued on a meta-level that the series is and has always been a metaphor for discrimination, and specifically queerness, and that can often be a thing directly linked to puberty when sexual/gender expression tends to move closer to the forefront of an individual's life)
Now when it comes to quirk usage in-universe it's not as simple as "you can't use your quirk if you're not a hero".
We know only a handful of things about legit quirk law in canon.
We do know that you must be licensed to use your quirk to cause physical harm. We know this for sure because of the Stain Incident.
Removing things like the issue of how the system works since Izuku/Todoroki/Iida get reprimanded for their actions despite it being an emergency and them being interns (because that's a different issue that shows how the heroic training program is flawed etc etc), that's a law that makes sense.
You'd want people to have to be certified to be able to legally use their superpowers in such a violent and public way.
But we also know it's possible to get licensed in other ways outside of heroics since Uraraka talked about wanting to get certified to use her quirk to help her parents before she enrolled in UA. This implies that quirks can be used in careers outside of heroics and medicine, you just have to be certified.
And then we have examples of quirks being used in the privacy of one's home i.e. Inko using her quirk in the kitchen etc etc which just goes to show that it's not like people are hovering over you 24/7 stopping you from using your quirk at all outside of heroics.
Just, in general, the main quirk laws we know about seem to revolve around public quirk usage being generally frowned upon. Meaning that you can't just waltz down the street and shoot off your superpower as you please.
Which would be a realistic set of laws to put into place when it comes to the matter of public safety.

the girls
– mina ; she cuts people ❤️ no i don’t take constructive criticism. she pulls a knife on anyone that gets too close. 10/10
– momo ; LOVE HER. she does the classic hand over cup but if anyone gets close enough she’ll create a bat and pull a sangwoo very fast <3 that’s my baby. 10/10
– jirou ; holds it close and simply screams at the top of her lungs if anyone says something along the lines of “can i see your drink?”. she just. starts hollering. until they get too scared or draws enough attention. 8/10, it scared me in the process trying to get my drink back.
– uraraka ; she makes your drink float, no one can reach it anyway. it ends up spilling but it’s the thought that counts. 6/10
– tsuyu ; she just... holds the cup in her mouth. she like. let’s it rest in there. but if someone came up and asked for the drink her tongue comes out and puts them in a chokehold, yeah ❤️ 7/10, the drink is slimey but that’s okay she did her best.
– kendou ; protects that mf with her LIFE. she doesn’t even let monoma watch it bc she doesn’t trust anyone. if someone comes within two feet of the drink she backhands the fuck out of them. 7/10, mistook you for a stranger and almost backhanded you, too.
the boys
– kaminari ; YOU GIVE IT TO HIM AND HE REALLY DOES DO HIS BEST BUT HE ENDS UP LOOSING IT. and if he doesn’t lose it he spills it trying to,, “jokingly” flirt with all his homies bc he’s a lot little tipsy. it’s the thought that counts, though. 4/10.
– sero ; he tapes it to the ceiling 😀 leaves it there. forgets about it. to be fair, he’s high out of his mind. you kinda want your drink back tho but his tape is so adhesive you can’t even cut it down 💔 3/10
– kirishima ; HE IS SO GOOD WITH DRINKS. EVERYONE trusts him. he def barks at people who gets too close or bites them until they bleed with his sharp teefies. the only thing is with all the drinks everyone trusts him with is he doesn’t know which one is yours, but he still protects it with his life. 9/10
– bakugou ; looks at you when you hand him the drink, tells you to fuck up, but goes batshit if anyone gets too close to him. at the same time he doesn’t do this shit for free, he probably spits in your drink and laughs when you smile and take a sip. i hate this mf. but 8/10.
– tokoyami ; don’t even TALK TO ME if you think he’s bad with drinks. he RESPECTS YOU WITH HIS LIFE AND WILL NOT LET THAT MF DRINK GO. he just fucking bodyslams anyone that gets too close, no words. if youre suspicious and too close he doesn’t care about your feelings and fucking destroys you on the spot. 10/10
– iida ; tells you you shouldn’t even be drinking and pours out the drink. he’s there to make sure everyone’s being responsible and you were not. 1/10 for caring tho.
– midoriya ; he does his best, too. but he lost it and had a meltdown because he thought you’d be mad at him. you reassure him it’s fine but he’s still like sobbing over it 💔 like it’s OKAY baby dw. 7/10
– monoma ; starts boasting about how much you trust him to hold your drink but hisses at anyone that tries to take it. feral mode. he swung at someone and this turned into kendo pulling him off and just watching your drink so monoma could go get some ice. 7.5/10
– shinsou ; he doesnt even wanna BE here. so when you handed him the drink unless you’re someone he EXTREMELY cares about he ditches that shit. but if you’re the lucky few he stands in a corner and just ... stares at it. his eyes don’t move. people try to talk to them and he flips them off or goes “no ❤️” and they walk away. 9/10
pro heroes
– aizawa ; he sorta like... glares at anyone that’s close enough. some bullshit excuse like “what drink is that? can i have a sip?” causes him to throw the first punch and isn’t phased by it 😀 mf said pow pow. 9.8/10, drink is 100% in tact but he complains ab how much he wants to go home.
– present mic ; he LOVES parties, but it truly pains me to say this because i love him, if you give him the drink he leaves it around and will panic. he ends up getting you a brand new drink until you sip it and say “...this isn’t my drink...” he starts crying and is overreacting more than you do. 4/10.
-- hawks ; bakugou in a different font. spits in your drink but still protects it. kinda backhanded, if he truly does fuck with you he flies around with your drink in his hand outside the bathroom door until you come back. he still spits in it tho. 9/10
-- endeavor ; disgusting. 0/10.
-- midnight ; SO good with your drink. she absolutely just straight up ends anyone’s shit that tries to even TALK to her while she’s holding your drink. im in love with her. midnight if you’re seeing this you’re late for our date im at the restaurant rn. 10/10
league of villains
-- dabi ; idc WHAT yall say. if you ask him to hold your drink he acts irritated asf but anyone that LOOKS at the cup wrong gets burnt to ash i will debate someone on this and you Will lose. he won’t spit in it tho, he’s put hot sauce in it to piss you off and laugh when you get mad. overall 8/10.
-- shigaraki ; he really wanted to help okay but someone got too close and out of defense he pulled the cup back and disintegrated it. he didn’t cry you both just looked at the pile of ash in disappointment. 6/10.
-- toga ; got so happy when you asked her to hold your drink :( my baby :( she got so excited she accidentally stabbed someone that really wanted a napkin but she wasn’t sure because she wanted to protect your drink so bad. poor baby. at least your drink good tho <3 10/10.
-- twice ; he forms a circle of him around it. just clones of him circling the drink. very affective. 10/10. biggest smile when you give him a kiss on the cheek as a thank you.

Ok, here is how I will imagine POW in my head(Maladaptive daydreaming go wild).Lov makes a portal while Yn visits Dabi. He asks if they had sex, she says no, he is very happy and feels like she is loyal still, delusional lil meow meow. Was Overhaul Based On Hitler?
On today's episode of a potential mini series (since I already did Dabi) comparing MHA villains to irl criminals, the villain Overhaul shows some similarities to the murderous dictator Hitler.
Side note: I won't be using comparative pictures (only manga panels) since Hitler's crimes are much more horrific. I have provided articles on Hitler's history but do know (especially with the experimentation article) it can be very unsettling.
Similarities:
- Overhaul wanted to restore the Yakuza as the ruler of the underworld and wanted to create an "ideal" world benefiting for the Yakuza and felt people with "hero syndrome" were sick.
* Hitler wanted to restore Germany to it's former strength before World War I and felt Germany would only be strong if they were "pure". Therefore he saw Jews, people with physical and mental disabilities, homosexuals, Romanian gypsies, Soviet POW, Slavs, and non-Jewish Poles as undesirable and needed to be executed.
- Overhaul has killed his own men.
* Hitler killed his political and religious opponents.
- Overhaul exploited the weakness of others to have them join his organization.
* Hitler exploited Germany during the Great Depression after World War I to be able to rise to power and form the Nazi party.
• Both have had members in their organizations who disapproved of their leadership.
• - Overhaul had men who felt the boss or "pops" was the true Yakuza leader and Hitler had multiple assassination attempts.
• Both have tortured children for experimentation.
• Ironically, both did not fit in their ideal worlds. Overhaul hated hero society and thought quirks were destructive yet he had one. According to Nazi doctrine, blonde hair and blue eyes were the ideal traits. Which is funny because Hitler had brown hair and brown eyes.
Differences:
- Overhaul didn't want to create a mass genocide of the society he hated.
- Overhaul is guilty of killing one member, attempted killing of two (until Eri rewound him), one (known) villain, experimenting on one girl, and crimpling his leader to gain power.
* Hitler is guilty of killing 11 to 17 million people and experimenting on 3,000 twins (only 200 survived) through Nazi doctor Mengele. Not to mention how vile the Nazi concentration camps were.
• Obviously Hitler's crimes were much more severe than Overhaul.

Dabi = Wizard Tiefling. Because e d g y
Compress = Halfling or Elven Bard. Let that glorious man seduce all of the things.
Shigaraki = Some home-brew Drow Monk with necrotic damage via his hands. Fucking boom pow.
Kurogiri = Air Genasi Wizard/Warlock/Sorceror.
If she as playing a character, she’d be a rowdy rogue or a Cleric with some ridiculous diety she looks up to. She’d also 100% be a Changeling.

my sibling and i were talking about how when they first started dating their bf (of several years now) people were talking about “when he cheats” and my sibling goes “nah, nah, what they don’t understand is that i have 15 personalities, so he doesn’t have a chance to get bored” and we joked for a while about how there is no chance to be complacent when you’re nuts
so here are some characters that low key love dating crazy bc it keeps life interesting
(please keep in mind i know all this behavior is super unhealthy and should *not* be romanticized or adopted but uh. i’m mentally ill and want love)
bakugou katsuki:
- you cannot tell me that he doesn’t low-key enjoy when you pick fights just to have angry sex
- loves the rush when something whizzes by his head because you’ve thrown it at him
- pushes your buttons on purpose because he thinks you’re hot when you’re mad
- if you’ve got daddy issues or are hypersexual? all over that shit
- can and will keep up with you (and don’t tell anyone but he’s really really good at aftercare when you’re really fucked up)
- prides himself on being with you because obviously he loves the challenge of a “harder” relationship. if he’s going to do it, he’s going to prove that he’s capable of anything
- likes that he can also handle depressive or empty episodes. nothing feels better than seeing you smile when you’re otherwise unresponsive
- i’m not saying he’s down to do dumb shit when you’re feeling reckless but i’m also not saying he’s going to discourage you from quitting your job or shaving your head or impulse buying plane tickets for the first flight out tomorrow, no matter where it’s going
