That last line, Nickel's right Tarn isn't going to leave the nurse destitute and stranded.

I feel like at this point Vos has stopped trying to seduce Tarn even without Nickel's or Koan's prompting. Now he's keeping book on when tarn gets a clue and side bets on what variety of clue stick it's going to take.

Tarn is so confused when venders are giving him free stuff he could only use as courting gifts.

The one that keeps score is actually Helex. He's making a killing by keeping track of everyone's bets and losses. Like too many people severely overestimate Tarn's self-awareness that's not part of the Cause.

Can his boss memorize every line of Lord Megatron's early works to his late-stage political speeches? Yes. Is Tarn a menace when it comes to rules and regulations? Definitely. Has Helex ever witnessed Tarn actually wind down and be normal off the clock? Never.

Shoot, the only reason the entire ordeal happened was because of Tarn's own hand at the regulations in regards to traitors with expecting mates. So it's still related to the Cause...

Despite Vos' disappointment not being able to get his clutches on the mech that could entwine pain and pleasure in a single word, Vos is deeply entertained by the massive scale of confusion and emotional whiplash the entire ordeal is having on everyone else. Especially since Kaon is literally shocking others if they try opening their mouths about Tarn's new Conjunx status before the guy figures out he's putting far more than the necessary effort into the Donor Clause. If High Command sent a gift to the newlyweds, then it would have been lost in the mail, or Kaon would have buried it deep in his floorboards until his otp got hit by Feelings. ("They're sharing a room, Pet! They're raising sparklings together! They're practically bonded roommates!")

It doesn't help that Tarn actually stonewalls any attempts for the other 'cons to figure out who's his Conjunx. Everyone wants to know and subtly/outright try to snoop, but Tarn thinks it's digs at being a poor donor. Of course, he isn't bringing you to any of the meetings. You're not a Decepticon, just an expecting carrier with an unlucky love life. Plus, you're basically a noncombatent compared to them. You're an excellent nurse and extractor, but that doesn't mean he's going to drag a heavily gravid carrier into a shootout. Nor will he be swayed by bribes like corrupted officials of the old regime, thank you very much.

A few of the 'cons begin to realize that Tarn doesn't even know his updated relationship status. Kaon is over Tarn's shoulder as the tank drones about the "responsibilities of the Cause to the most vulnerable among them" and the "indignities of some medical processes," and he has a terribly dark and focused expression as he gestures a finger across his neck to keep their mouths shut.

Now they're stuck with Tarn's rants about the baster method because he'll never let it go. Never.

A rambling post on ships

In the vein of not-quite-Shannara posting, I though I'd list (some of) my other ships that are either for Allanon or Mareth, or characters from other canons... I'm pretty much.. OTP-flexible in that I'm ride or die for my main ship, but I'm also multishippish and just love seeing different takes on characters, and I like crossovers... I also often like canon ships, I'm boring like that. ❤️ Let's see.

(CW - incest and non-con mentions under the cut, though that's a blanket warning for this blog.)

Shannara ships:

Allanon/Mareth - obviously.

Allanon/Pyria - so good. So star-crossed and wonderful. :( They're actually everything I want from a canon ship EXCEPT for her dying. Grr.

Allanon/Ellcrys - I swear it makes sense! Think about it.

Allanon/Ander - don't "actively" ship this, but it's so obvious.

Mareth/EVERYONE - literally can't think of anyone I don't ship her with. Bandon maybe (boo. I don't like him), but even that would be interesting. Mainly though: Mareth/Eretria, Mareth/Lyria (Royal marriage to unify the lands!!), Mareth/Eretria/Lyria, Mareth/Garet Jax, Mareth/OC Elf-hunting Rovers, Mareth/her cousins (ask me about it)... I like Mareth/Wil in canon, but in fic I'd like them more as friends, one-sided crush on Wil's side, that kind of thing.

Riga/Allanon/Mareth - as non-con. Add the Crimson soldiers too. >:)

The Dweller (or other monsters)/Allanon/Mareth - same.

The Warlock Lord/Allanon/Mareth - 👀

Other canons:

Crixus/Naevia (Spartacus) - *happy crying*

Shado/Slade (Arrow) - *sad crying*

Linda/Iris (The Flash) - "She shoots. She scores!" A major ship for me actually! Especially between S1 and S2, like tell me how they became closer? Knows-how-you-take-your-coffee closer? Late night work buddies. Linda baking all the cakes for Iris. CRossfit. I just... really love them together...

Earth-1 Linda/Earth-2 Linda (The Flash) - I'm sorry but HOW isn't this a bigger thing?

Anna/Bonnie (The Vampire Diaries) - this might go into crackship territory, but again... think about it

Cadence/Hayley (The Troop) - if this show was made now and not on Nickelodeon, I swear this would be big. Netflix please do a remake or something.

Lucy/Camille and Lucy/Jo - (Big Time Rush)

Crossover and crackships:

Slade Wilson/Linda Park - it writes itself. Right? Or it's at least possible. Same with Slade/Amanda Waller.

Slade Wilson (Arrow)/Rose Wilson (Titans) - this specific crossover. Slade/Rose is a very particular dirtybadwrong dynamic in the comics and on Titans, but this could be so delicious... Rose would do a number on Arrowverse Slade. Who needs daddy issues when you can have daughter issues?

Allanon/Yennefer (The Witcher) - I have @swingrlm to thank for this, as well as a ton of other plot bunnies as well. Time and dimension hopping is canon in Witcher...

Mareth/Wil/Wil's parents - Hear me out. Time travel. "Harvest festival." Back to the Future. Ritual... congregation. See?

Honestly, I could mix and match characters left and right for crackship purposes. Vampire AU everything. Time travel. Multiverse. Sky's the limit. Anyway. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

My 2020 in dramaland pt 1/4

I’m doing this at the start of december but I’m scheduling it to be posted on Christmas Eve, because that way I can say to everyone Happy holidays! Anyway, these are the Korean dramas I watched this year (listed in the order I saw them, NOT including my favorite dramas, those will have its own post!)

Love Alarm (2019): I don’t think I need to say what this was about lol if you haven’t seen it, chances are, you’ve heard of it. This is like all those Netflix shows I binge in one day, hate them but still can’t help but want to know what happens next and immediately need a season 2. Btw, this drama has the type of love triangle that I tolerate the most: the men who like the girl are also BFFs and never actually turn against each other, or at least suffer because they don’t really want to hurt the other. Bros before hoes! Kinda.

OTP: Jojo&SunOh. Hate that I love them tbh. But it’s mostly all thanks to him. To me, KimSoHyun’s chemistry with SongKang is the best chemistry she’s ever had with any of her co-stars. Well, maybe it’s a tie with Jisoo. Sorry Jang DongYoon.

Thing I enjoyed the most: Knowing there’s a second season coming. I NEED CLOSURE! Dramas should never have seasons, it’s cruel.

Do I recommend it? Uhm... Yes. But beware of old tropes like Noble Idiocy super idiotic, a FL that never speaks her mind and a whole lot of nonsense angst and pining. Hey, your average kdrama basically.

Crash Landing on You: You know she actually did crash land on him. Twice. I loved that they were so doomed, it was awesome. A forbidden and beautiful romance, they were all in for each other. He was handsome and cute I mean is HyunBin! but she was my favorite: brave, sassy, bold and a CEO. I hated when they shoot her. A pity they can only be happy in Switzerland, but I liked that about their ending. (I made a sort of review of the finale here)

OTP: Awesome chemistry, have you heard about all those dating rumors? But my favorite couple was actually the second lol. I will never forgive this drama for NOT giving them a happy ending. WTF? And that’s why it’s not in my fave’s list.

Thing I enjoyed the most: Apart from the love stories? North Korean soldiers from Captain Ri’s team. Bless them.

Do I recommend it? Oh, is there someone who hasn’t seen it? For real, go watch it. It’s a romcom for the ages. Lots of nonsense and cliches. Loved it, just *one* little flaw. ALBERTOOOO!

Witch’s Court (2018): A law drama. I never watch these types of dramas. Only did it because I had a crush on Yoon HyunMin at the time, my sister made me watch it (she also had a crush on him) and I thought there was going to be way more romance. Heavy subjects, a great mom’s love and a lot of prosecutor bs.

OTP: They were cute. Wish I’d seen more of them though.

Thing I enjoyed the most: Yoon HyunMin. But the FL was awesome in her own right.

Do I recommend it? If you like law/criminal dramas and barely a hint of romance, this one is great. And justice is served at the end.

Hospital Playlist: It was an adorable, peaceful and relaxing watch, not what you’d expect from a hospital themed drama. Very healing (no pun intended lol). And I loved the songs they played! The weird thing is that I kept forgetting about it, and that’s why it took me so long to finish it.

OTP: I do have one, but not the one everyone ships: Dr Yang SeokHyung and his resident played by one awesome Ahn EunJin. She confessed, he turned her down gently, Buuu!!!. Waiting patiently for S2 and HOPE their love story develops more. Dramas shouldn’t have second seasons!

Thing I enjoyed the most: The friendship of the five besties duh

Do I recommend it? Awww but of course! if you liked the Reply Series and slice of life dramas, you will like this one. Only 12 eps but they were as long as a movie lol

WHY (minidrama) 2019: Two good friends trying to cheer up their bff who just got dumped (without any explanation hence driving him slowly into a mental breakdown and an identity crisis) by going on a Jeju vacation. In the guesthouse they’re staying, they encounter two awesome, chill and fun noonas. What you’ll see here: a moving story about heartbreak and letting go, bromance and noona romance.

OTP: While most of the time the lead was in deep heartbreak thanks to his awful ex, there was a subtle romance developing while he was healing. At the end, there’s a time jump and he’s totally in the right state of mind to completely be with her and give love another try. Lovely ending.

Thing I enjoyed the most: Jung GunJoo! AKA Dohwa from Extraordinary You!!!

Do I recommend it? Of course! It’s an adorable watch. And it only takes like 2 hours of your time, maybe less, I don’t recall. Here, you can watch it on YouTube. Also, not really a fan don’t hate me lol but there’s Hwang In Yeob as the bff of the lead. And he has a very meaningful role.

Where Your Eyes Linger (minidrama): First Korean BL drama I’ve ever watched and I’m so glad that it was a wonderful first. Given the amount of time and resources I was expecting a lot less from this but they all did a very good job. Beyond my expectations, really. Wonderful acting and such an angsty friends to lovers romance that was delightfully done. I don’t usually give out scores to dramas but omg 10/10!

OTP: THEY HAD SUCH GOOD CHEMISTRY! UGH THE ANGST

Thing I enjoyed the most: Oh, everything!

Do I recommend it? Like BL dramas and want to see more of them in kdramaland? Then YES YES YES. A thousand times YES! The reason why it’s not on my favorites’ list is because I wish it was longer.

It’s Okay to not be Okay: It had been so long since I’ve seen a KSH drama. Since his alien days lol Plus, my sister is a huge fan. Horniest kdrama of the year, for sure. Which is hilarious since the message of the whole thing was more about family. From the first episode I was waiting for the OTP to have a steamy makeout and have sex HAHAHA You know, they actually delivered, so I was happy. My review about the ending HERE

OTP: Queen MoonYoung and her horny but super restrained caretaker, KangTae. Love them.

Thing I enjoyed the most: All hail Queen Ko MoonYoung! And the best hyung, SangTae.

Do I recommend it? Yeah. Let’s be serious for a moment lmao it was a healing drama and the ending was beautiful. A few things here and there didn’t make sense though. The mom’s comeback was crazy, but meh, what are dramas without crazy? lol I guess this is not on my favorite’s list because I wasn’t as obsessed as I wish I’d been.

Was it Love?: Mamma mia, here we go again, my my, I should have resist ya! it was ALL right there but the writer didn’t have the guts to do the story right. It COULD’VE BEEN Mamma Mia, but all the potential went to waste. THE POTENTIAL!! You want to know who the dad of her daughter is? The only dude she ever slept with, her only ex! Big surprise. The writer! There, saved you the trouble. My rant on the ending here

OTP: Well, it wasn’t the leads, that’s for sure. It’s the second leads (or was he the third lead and she the second?)who ended up together, or at least it was hinted at. The female lead had way more chemistry with the one dude she was never romantically linked to, which is hilarious to me. Ugh so much wasted potential...

Thing I enjoyed the most: Gangster dude and his son! Bless them.

Do I recommend it? Jesus, NO. DON’T. Watch Mamma Mia with Meryl Streep, instead. That’s gold and it’s what they wanted to try to do for a moment here. Still wondering how I managed to finish this...

Record of Youth: Another drama I can’t believe I actually finished. A handsome model transitioning into an actor and becoming the main provider for the family that never fully supported him and had to pay for the debt of the dad that always belittled his dreams. Underdeveloped characters, a female lead that was outshined by CAMEOS of other women(in her 1 minute scene, KimHyeYoon had more chemistry with PBG), plots that went nowhere and a terrible pairing that had very little chemistry. A ranting about the finale and my wasted time, HERE

OTP: who? Ah, yeah, I guess there sort of was one... The photographer friend and the sister of the jealous friend. Their ending was ambiguous.

Thing I enjoyed the most: PBG, he carried this mess on his back.

Do I recommend it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA No. Please, don’t watch it.

Private Lives: An orphan who was recluted to become a spy and works for a conglomerate that holds the power to decide the next president of Korea AND a con woman who wants revenge because her dad got sent to jail. They meet and fall in love and it’s the cutest thing ever but on their wedding day he misteriously disappears and... that’s it. Everything that happens after that makes zero sense. By the end I was more interested in the second leads.

OTP: TWO (but mostly the second couple) and the reason why I finished this drama at all.

Thing I enjoyed the most: Second leads. BokGi and Eduardo (yeah, I know that wasn’t his real name). I’d watch a drama of those two. Even if it was by the same writer.

Do I recommend it? Well... not really. LOL If you’re interested to know more about it, read my “recaps” of each episode HERE or read about the last ep here. You’ll understand about the same as if you were to actually watch it, but you will not waste your time. I hope? LOL

Start Up: A grandma with good intentions, a FL that lost it all as a kid, letters that weren’t really that genuine, a rich, cocky and petty jerk who wasn’t the ML (I mean by definition he had everything to be the male lead lol) and the actual ML (a genius who suffers from the biggest case of Impostor Syndrome I’ve ever seen). No one except for the FL mostly is honest. A time jump that was there just for the sake of angst and not quite done right. Also, making a business with your friends involves a whole lot of nonsense and drama. And a “love triangle” that drove the fandom to madness. And wait, the sister was the second female lead? She was more secondary than the secondary characters. This drama is seriously not what it seems at first lol

OTP: DalMi&DoSan. Adorable. The oly reason I finished this. From the moment they announced the cast and learned who the leads were, I knew I was gonna ship them. And that’s how I never get SLS lol

Do I recommend it? Honestly, yeah. Just turn off your brain and never discuss it on social media. Binge it and move on with life. Not the best drama, but tbh not the worst. Well it is the worst by the writer lol Wow it sounds like I hated it, but it’s just that the fanwars really got to me haha and it’s all so recent, but I actually did love the love story and the grandma was a treasure.

Kaminari

I’m so glad someone asked for Kaminari cause I could ramble about this dude for HOURS! :,D

- Favorite thing about them: How wound up he is lol! He’s so energetic and FUNKY, like I just get really excitable, good vibes whenever I think of Kaminari Denki. Everything from his hair to the way he talks to his exaggerated movements. What a king.

- Least favorite thing about them: Mineta. I hate hate hate that he hangs out with Mineta. I have all the justifications in my head to make myself feel better about it, which I could ramble about for hours to try and score some points for my boy Kami, but we all know that doesn’t excuse anything. He hangs out with Mineta, and Mineta is the worst, and I cannot get over it.

- Favorite line: !!! Shoot! I forgot to do this for Sero but! His whole speech about Bakugou and Kirishima during the license exam! So manly, so passionate, he really showed his love for his friends in that moment. And he didn’t excuse their behavior! He didn’t deny the things the other guy said, he just told him a different perspective. I really liked that - it showed a true glimpse at his character besides the fact that he hangs with Mineta and likes girls.

- Brotp: Kirishima!! :D I feel like their dynamic is super fun and I never get tired of reading/writing them interacting because I feel like they bounce off of each other really well. Kami with all his dumb jokes and Kirishima just eating it up and adding to it. They’re chaotic and I love watching them interact with each other in the show - like Kami just shoving his hand over Kirishima’s face when he was getting all amped up about the Sports Festival ahaha! I also feel like Kirishima is a good influence on Kami, because Kiri drinks his respect women juice EVERY. DAY.

- Otp: Jirou!! I really love Kami and Jirou together. Jirou is so cool and humble and strong, and she openly picks on Kami and calls him out when he’s being gross with Mineta, and I feel like, after a little maturing, Kami will come to really appreciate all of that. He can be smooth when he wants to be, and I imagine that one day (maybe in their second or third year) he’ll realize that Jirou is the coolest girl around and he’ll just want to be more than friends with her. He’ll want to really try and commit and be the best boyfriend ever - all open with his affection and Jirou will hate it cause ugh, she’s COOL, she doesn’t want FLOWERS IDIOT, but she’ll blush anyway and take them and be a little giddy. UGH. I WANT IT OKAY! ALSO THAT PANEL WHERE JIROU ACTUALLY CALLS HIM CHARGEBOLT AND SHE LOOKS AT HIM ALL FULL OF CONFIDENCE AND PRIDE LIKE??? HELLO! (also, is it just me or does Jirou’s dad remind anyone else of Kami?? Like when All Might and Aizawa came to her house to convince her parents about the dorms... I just got really weird Kami vibes from her dad, like that’s what he’ll be like when he’s older and has a daughter?? Idk man, I love it though)

- Notp: Mineta. (This will be my answer for all of them because I don’t ship-shame but I also don’t like Mineta so, best of both worlds.)

- Random Headcanon: Hmhmhmm... I really like the idea of Kaminari and Jirou bonding over music. Don’t get me wrong, they have vastly different music tastes, but they both appreciate a good bass and they both can look at someone and determine what type of music they like just by eyeing them for a minute and yeah, idk, Kami hanging out in Jirou’s room and watching her play music (and always throwing out compliments that make her flustered but for once he’s not flirting he’s just being completely honest and okay maybe he’s flirting a little but sue him yaknow? Ahaha)

- Unpopular Opinion: Idk if it’s unpopular, but again, the Mineta thing... I feel like I can’t fully appreciate Kami as a character until he pulls back from Mineta (or Mineta grows in some way, which is also possible! I would love to see it! We love characters that self-reflect and grow as human beings and learn to do the right thing - which I feel like they KIND of tried to do that during the final exams where Mineta had to go up against Midnight, but also not really, because all that they really did was confirm that the reason Mineta wants to be a hero is for “the babes” and they were like “well, any reason is a good reason” and I’m just like hm, not for me, but okay.) So yeah... that.

- Song I associate with them: I have a full playlist for our boy Kami! Because I love him, and I feel like his music taste would be AWESOME! But one song in particular that I think captures him is Slime by Danny Gonzalez LMAOOO! DON’T COME FOR ME IT’S THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF PARTY/PICKING UP GIRLS/MEME SONG FOR HIM AND I WILL NOT BE TAKING CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM! :,D Please listen to it if you haven’t heard it, I DIE every time!

For @thefanficfaerie‘s OTP Challenge (2020) Words: 877 Pairing: Tony Stark x Reader Prompt: Spooktacular Halloween: Day 12 - Disney Summary: Tony and Reader are back at Disney World for another magic filled day. When Reader suggests they should stay the weekend for the Halloween Party (again), Tony disagrees. They decide to settle their predicament with a ride through Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. (Highest score wins.)

“Tell me again how you talked me into coming back here twice in the same month?” Tony asked. You were walking hand in hand with Tony under the train station at the Magic Kingdom park.

“Because we have an annual pass and a private jet and you hardly ever turn down the opportunity to use either.” You reminded him.

“Ah right, now I remember.” Tony laughed. “Though I gotta say I liked it much better when there was free candy everywhere.”

“Well, if someone didn’t have to be at work on Monday we could have stayed over tomorrow for the Halloween Party again.” You pointed out. Tony scrunched his face up indecisively. He looked like he may be considering taking a personal day after all.

“It’s okay.” He decided. “I don’t like sequels, never have. We’ll do the party again next year.”

“What will make next year different?” You questioned him. By now you’d begun to stroll up Main Street towards the hub at Cinderella’s Castle. Tony led you to the right towards the Tomorrowland bridge. He wanted to make his way to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin where he could defeat you in an outdated arcade ride.

“It won’t be this year anymore.” Tony shrugged.

“Very observant.” You teased. You entered Tomorrowland and waved at some of the guests who recognized you and Tony. “Also there have been good sequels.”

“Name five.” He dared you.

“Rocky II, Rocky III …” You began to list off.

“Name five from different franchises.” He clarified. You entered the queue line for Space Ranger Spin.

“Fine.” You rolled your eyes. “On top of the Rocky movies, there’s National Treasure Book of Secrets, Toy Story 2, Empire Strikes Back, Godfather II, Terminator 2…”

“Okay, Okay.” Tony shook his head. “How about we make a gentleman’s wager?”

“I’m listening.” You winked.

“How about high score on the ride gets to decide?” He offered. “If you win, we’ll stay the weekend and do the party again. If I win, we go home at the end of the day. We’ll snuggle together and watch Disney+ until we’re comatose.”

“This barely seems fair.” You complained. “You always beat me on this ride.”

“Well, Sweetheart, there’s a first time for everything, isn’t there?” He smirked before climbing into the ride vehicle that was assigned to you.

“Fine, bring it on, Space Ranger.” You commented before hopping into the car.

The Cast Member working on the ride pulled lap bar on the front of the ride car towards you, sealing the vehicle before it turned the corner into the first scene. The first scene of the ride was critical as it had one of the targets with the highest points pay outs. You gripped the handle of your laser canon and aimed at as many targets as you could before your vehicle was close enough to shoot at your real target, the left hand of the large orange robot. It was worth 100,000 points.

You stole a glance at your score counter. You’d hit it! But, so had Tony. You weren’t willing to accept defeat just yet. As your car chugged along into the next scene, you decided not to look at the score anymore. Instead you decided to aim for as many high point targets as possible and hope it was enough to at least lose by a respectable margin.

The final scene of the ride showed Buzz Lightyear’s nemesis Zurg being defeated by the adorable Green Aliens of the Toy Story franchise. This was also the scene where the ride took your photos. You and Tony smiled and posed where you knew the camera would be. Finally, it was time to tabulate the scores.

You glanced down at the score hoping it wouldn’t be too embarrassing. You couldn’t believe your eyes when you discovered you’d maxed out the score counter! In flashing red numbers, you saw the max score 999,999. You chanced a look at Tony’s score. Surely if you had scored so high, Tony must have maxed out his own score counter well before you.

“Congrats Sweetheart, you won.” He beamed proudly at you. Sure, enough his score was well behind yours at 700,462. It was time to exit the ride so you and tony leapt from the vehicle. The put an arm around you and held you close.

“Attention Space Rangers!” Tony called loudly into the tiny gift shop. “My wife has just achieved Galactic Hero for the first time after four years of trying her best to best me. It has finally happened!”

“Congratulations, Space Ranger!” One of the Cast Members said before clapping loudly and inspiring other Cast Members and Guests to do the same. “Here you go Space Ranger, wear it proudly!”

The Cast Member handed you a green “I’m Celebrating Galactic Hero!” button. You pinned the button to the front of your shirt proudly. You and Tony signed a few autographs for some guests before thanking the Cast Members and exiting the gift shop.

“You let me win didn’t you?” you accused him once you were alone.

“Not at all! Maybe Baby Stark is gonna be a sharpshooter like his old man.” Tony winked.

“Or maybe his old man decided he wanted more free candy after all.” You teased.

1.Who is the most affectionate?

Riley is probably more physically affectionate than Drake, particularly in public.

2. Big spoon/Little spoon?

To be honest, Riley’s a stomach sleeper most nights. They sometimes will start with Drake as the big spoon, but Riley has usually rolled onto her stomach by the time they wake up.

3.Most common argument?

In canon, they often are at odds with how to raise Bridget. Riley is pretty defensive and protective, particularly when it comes to royal duties/obligations and pushes back on a lot of things. Drake remembers a lot of the good times he and Liam had together at the palace and has a harder time saying no to Liam’s requests, so while he grumbles about some of the time his family spends in the spotlight, he’s more likely to go along with whatever Liam recommends for raising an heir. It’s a frequent point of contention between the two of them.

In the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe, Riley will agree to plans for the two of them without running it by Drake first if she knows he has nothing going on. Drake has told her repeatedly that she shouldn’t just assume he’s free.

4. Favorite non-sexual activity?

They like playing card games together, or rather against each other. They both are very competitive, and will often make bets ranging from the mundane to the ridiculous. They also enjoy drinking together while they play

5. Who is most likely to carry the other?

Riley is fairly strong for her size, but she is not deluded enough to think she could carry Drake. Drake doesn’t really carry her often either. The most he’ll typically do is a couple of steps to bed in the heat of the moment. Sheer physical strength is the one area where Drake can one up her 100% of the time, and it feels strange to both of them when they aren’t on an even playing field. They both like keeping things competitive.

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Riley really loves Drake’s shoulders. Not only are they strong and broad, but she can really easily read his mood based on changes in his posture. She’s also a big fan of his hands. Drake is fascinated by her hair and loves running his hands through it. Her laugh gets him as well.

7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Drake starts calling her Liu to create some distance, but at the same time he finds it harder and harder to say no when she invites him to do something together, or even with Maxwell and Hana. Riley knows it’s not great that she’s developed feelings for the best friend of the guy shes been flirting with and making out with, so she decides she needs to spend more time with Drake so she can either get some clarity or get him out of her system. The end result is they start spending a ton of time together and the feelings keep growing and growing.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

In canon, Drake calls her Liu until they’re married, at which point he switches to Walker (except during sex, because that’s sort of creepy). Riley knows that the reminder that they share a last name, that she chose him, helps him when he feels out of his depth at court, so she suggested the change.

In the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe, since they don’t rush to get married, she’s Liu to him for much longer and it would just feel weird to Drake to call her anything else.

Riley doesn’t have a nickname for Drake. She tries a few on, but she hates all of them for him, so she just calls him Drake.

9. Who worries the most?

Drake definitely worries more often, but it’s a low level concern typically. Given how much Riley endured during her childhood, she’s usually of the opinion that things will have a way of working out. However, when she does worry about something, she tumbles into a massive spiral of panic and fear and it can be hard for her to rein herself back in or for Drake to reassure her. Luckily, that doesn’t happen often.

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

They both are pretty observant of the other’s likes and dislikes when it comes to food. Drake tends to like the same staples over and over, so Riley will often push him to at least try something new. Riley will get so caught up in what pictures look good, that she won’t check the actual written description, so Drake will often stop her from ordering something he knows she’s gonna hate.

11. Who tops?

Their competitive nature definitely comes out in the bedroom as well, so this ends up being about 50/50.

12. Who initiates kisses?

Riley probably initiates kissing slightly more often, but it’s fairly even.

13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

Riley’s a big hand holder, so she’ll reach for his hand before he often even has the chance to think of taking hers.

14. Who kisses the hardest?

Again, they’re competitive. They both tend to be aggressive, possessive kissers, but never in public. Any kisses there are kept light because they both feel weird with excessive PDA.

15. Who wakes up first?

Drake. He’s a morning person and a light sleeper. Riley is neither of those things.

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

Riley.

17. Who says I love you first?

In canon, Riley beats him to it after the shooting. In the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe, Drake says it first.

After their first time of saying it, it’s pretty even who says it first, but to be fair, they aren’t a big “I love you,” couple. Neither one would score very high for words of affirmation as a love language, so they usually find ways to show each other as opposed to saying it all the time.

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

No. That is way too cutesy for them. The only time they came close to doing this was in the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe. Drake will sometimes set aside some leftovers in a bag for Riley to take to work, and one time she opened the bag and saw a folded sheet of paper in there. It turns out, Drake had printed out the wikipedia page about cheesecake because they’d been bickering over where cheesecake was first created the night before, and he couldn’t let her have the last word.

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

Riley tells Maxwell she’s developing feelings for someone besides Liam during the social season and he has a pretty good idea who she means, but then she doesn’t bring it up again, so he assumes that fizzled out until he sees them making out in NYC (It’s why he tells her not to worry about House Beaumont at the UN party later that night). Drake doesn’t tell anyone (friends or family) until they are openly and officially together.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Riley has no family left living where she has any sort of relationship. Savannah and Bianca like Riley a lot (certainly more than she likes either of them, though she tries not to show it) and they think she and Drake are good for each other. Leona doesn’t really warm to Riley ever. No love lost there as the feeling is mutual. Their friends all think they are insanely well suited for each other.

Drake is the better cook and does basically all the cooking in the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe and some cooking to try and keep the staff presence at Valtoria low in canon.

Riley sometimes will do this to annoy the shit out of Drake.

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?

Both of them. So much. It’s just another thing for them to compete over, seeing who can crack the other one first.

They both have pretty deep seated insecurities and abandonment issues, so they both need reassurance somewhat often. However, they never really mind, because they both understand exactly where the other one is coming from.

26. What would be their theme song?

They don’t have a song that’s “their song,” but I feel like “Best Part of Me” by Ed Sheeran and YEBBA represents them well.

27. Who would sing to their child back to sleep?

Riley. Drake is more of a ramble about anything and everything to lull them back to sleep type of parent.

28. What do they do when they’re away from each other?

Inside jokes or snarky texts, Facetime or Skype sex. If they’re apart for a longer stretch of time, Drake gets a little more sentimental and sends her more genuine, heartfelt messages.

My canon one is too bleak for this (seriously, there is no headcanon to mend it), so I’ll just say there is at least one serious medical condition ahead for each of them in the It Couldn’t Wait Another Moment universe.

Warnings: None Word count: ~764 Summary: It’s based on the prompt about your OTP going Laser tagging and person A pushed person B into the corner, kisses and shots them and then leaves.

Ever since you've joined the team, you made it your task to organize a team-bonding-event every two months. No Excuses. The Team liked it, especially since your presence alone cheered them up (one of the many reasons Jack thought of you as his best babysitter/aunt) and that was why everyone was excited when you told them about your plans to go laser tagging. Usually, you avoided activities that were somewhat 'similar' to your work, but after you'd tried it with your new boyfriend, you decided to give it a shot with the whole team. Speaking of your new boyfriend, well, he'd be there too. Your new boyfriend was Doctor Spencer Reid, your fellow teammate and genius. In a case, where both you and Spence were trapped, both of you kissed when you were sure you'd die any second. To make a long story short, you didn't die, decided to go on a date and after about five of them, you made the both of you official. Well, not officially official. In fact, only the both of you knew about it, since you -firstly- didn't want to have 'the talk' (about workplace behaviour and etc.) with Hotch, and -secondly - wanted to know if they'd find out due to their profiling skills, or due to catching the both of you during one of your rare couple moments . You've bet 10 bucks on the latter, while Spence was sure that they'd figure it out by themselves sooner or later. But back to the topic. Laser tag. You were sitting on the counter in the main hall of the Laser Tag Place, a bottle of soda in your hand while your legs swang a bit for and backwards, while Derek and Spencer stood at an Arcaden-basketball machine. Derek set a new high score, while Spencer didn't even manage to land more than four balls. The three of you've been the first to arrive, even though you and Spence made sure not to come at the same time, and now waited for the others to come. As on cue, Emily and JJ opened the door, walking towards you, both of them hugging you and after they've also greeted the boys, the three off you started chatting. It only took a few minutes for Aaron and Penelope to arrive (Aaron excusing Rossi, who couldn't come for some reason) which made you complete. Let the fun begin.

You had no idea how it escalated so quickly, but not even five minutes after you've started playing it was a game of life or death. It was everyone for him/herself. As far as you noticed, Derek had barricaded himself in one of the towerlike buildings, busy shooting Penelope who made the mistake to always go back to him in hope of getting revenge, while Aaron silently sneaked through the maze, soon developing a pattern which you managed to avoid and Emily and J.J. hat teamed up (even though it was only a question of time until they'd betray each other) and managed to be so loud that you were able to shoot them and disappear before they knew what was happening. The only one you weren't able to find was your favorite Genius. Because he found you. You were aiming at Penny who was walking into Derek's Direction a few feet away from you when you heard his smooth voice greet you. "Got you," he said, while you turned around, hands and weapon raised. "Yep. It seems like you managed to trap me," you hummed, nodding your head matter-of-factly. But opposite to what you just said, you holstered your weapon and walked over to him, making sure to sway your hips a little more than usual. It looked like Spencer wanted to say something, but he was quite literally speechless, especially when you pushed him into the corner only a few inches behind him and pressed your lips to his, standing on your tiptoes since you were relatively seen smaller than him (!if you're not, say he stood on his tiptoes!). He was just about to intensify the kiss when he heard the familiar sound of his vest telling him he'd been shot. You pulled back, winked, turned around and went to leave when you heard a high-pitched scream. Almost in slow-motion, Spencer's and your head turned into the direction of Penelope who was almost bouncing with excitement about the newest addition of team-knowledge. Knowing that there was no way that your relationship with him could stay a secret after that, you turned to Spencer smirking and said, "You owe me ten bucks."

favorite thing about them

How despite his insecurity and jealousy, he genuinely loved Wei Wuxian as a brother and could be proud of him and his successes (one scene that marked me for example is when they’re shooting kites and Wei Wuxian manages to score when he didn’t, and he just looked happy about it; you could have expected him to have a conflicted reaction to Wei Wuxian besting him again but in that instance he was just proud of him and I loved that).

least favorite thing about them

How, despite the previous point, he did let his insecurity win out in the end. He’s too easily governed by his anger. It’s also heartbreaking to see him reproduce his parents’ treatment of him with Jin Ling. He was a kid who suffered from not getting the open affection he needed from his parents, and yet when he’s in a position to do it with a kid in need of affection, he doesn’t. Treat your nephew better Jiang Cheng!

Not really a “line”, but I love the way he says “Wei Wuxian” or “You!” when he’s annoyed XD

random headcanon

He eventually somewhat repairs his relationship with Wei Wuxian. It’ll never truly be like before, but they finally reach a point where they can admit they still care about each other. I think getting some closure on that front can also help him reach a better mental state and let go of some of his anger, leading him to be a bit more pleasant to others (to Jin Ling’s secret delight).

I don’t think he’s a terrible person. He has a lot of flaws to work on, but I can see where he was coming from when he made some of his worst decisions, and while I wouldn’t say he was “right”, I wouldn’t exactly say he was “wrong” either. He was in a difficult position and did what he thought he should in those circumstances. He’s a very tragic character, I think.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been absent for some time now. There were a few reasons why I took a break, I wanted one, I needed one. The last few weeks hasn’t been really enjoyable for me tbh. I‌ try to avoid weird stuff which sometimes happens on tumblr but my Club is making it not easier.

BVB has been doing very poor lately as you may have noticed and I haven’t been in any mood to post anything related to them and that has several reasons. When‌ I‌ was a kid and grew up, BVB stood for so many things. They always fought, their will to try and win any game against any important was so inspiring, not only as a football fan, but as an human being itself. We were beasts when it came to pressing and tackles we would give out all and you could see basically the spirit of each player glowing and screaming at the same, you just felt it, that the Team gave their all, nowadays I‌ don’t see nor feel it. Also the way they played football was so attractive, like they just played forward. Nowadays they hold the ball for way too long, it’s a play style which doesn’t suit them at all. Even under Thomas Tuchel who started this whole ‘ball possession’ project we were only dangerous when we added speed into our game, it’s just Dortmunds DNA to play fast forward with lots of pace and combinations, but the more months are passing and the years following we are not really being THAT Dortmund at all anymore and it’s sad to witness it’s really annoying. We are passing the ball way too much, we are less dangerous and we are shooting less which just makes me yawn and sigh at the same time bc it’s unattractive and boring.

Sometimes I watch older videos of how we used to play and it’s making me sad to realize how far away we are to get back to that level. I‌ mean we have the quality but with our latest coaches and especially our current one (Favre) we are not going that road to play that football again. We have quality players and we could be doing so much better I see other clubs playing offensive with certain tactics and line-ups while we just play the same 4-2-3-1 all over, it’s supposed to bring us stability compared to other teams using 4-3-3 for example, but it’s funny how we still concede more goals than other teams do.

Simply bc we are lacking of too many things. Our team looks so fragile like as soon as something doesn’t seem to work out during the game they start to literally sweat and it’s like if we are a tower which tempts to fall apart. I just don’t understand it tbh like how??‌ why??‌ Too many questions and yet 0 answers. I think the players are tired of Favre it’s the same with Kovac and Bayern. Look how successful they are. They won their last 4 games with 16-0 Goals scored and 0 conceded. If that isn’t the proof how tired the Bayern players were of Kovac and basically doing sabotage to get him sacked (playing bad) then idk what else it is.

For me the Team is tired of Favre and it’s understandable. I mean I was probably one of the first People who started the whole #FavreOUT thing and seeing how it developed is no surprise for me. He’s a solid Coach but that’s about it. He does way too many mistakes and lacks of too many things as well it’s no wonder why he hasn’t one really any major trophy (no offense).

I hope that Dortmund will sack him soon and get a new coach. I think our Players would be exactly be like the ones of Bayern, they would be motivated again and they wouldn’t be mind blocked by Favre’s 91882831 tactics. In football it’s important to feel free and not strangled or tied up. For me the players are only getting worse under Favre, while last year a lot of players had improved, I rather saw it as a one-hit-wonder season bc Favre had the momentum of surprise in back when he arrived and the league wasn’t prepared for him, 6 months later tho the league was, hell not even 6, I think earlier and then we started to drop more and more points.

So back to tumblr, For me as a blogger it’s important to enjoy what I do. Dortmund has been a shadow of they used to be, obviously it ruins my mood, which results to blogging being less fun. Then there is Favre who is even worse and makes me roll my eyes. There also some people on Tumblr who are let’s say strange and make my eyebrows move. I try to avoid it like I said above but sometimes it makes me think about why would someone say or think that, but then again everyone can have their own opinion and I respect that.

Overall tumblr is changing for me, a lot of the people I knew left. When I‌ joined this site I felt like a feather and in general felt easy. I could post what I wanted basically, about OTP’s about football and people would be the same. It was like you could be careless basically. Nowadays you get judged for anything, people who bash someone, there will be hate spread. I think it’s good that you need to take care of yourself more now, bc in life you should do that as well, but hey on tumblr?‌ Things have changed, became more difficult. I think on tumblr you could be criticized for anything and that it gives the vibe of living with a fear that not someone will attack you or in general interact with your posts which leads to hate or other stuff is alarming. I sometimes witness stumbling through tumblr those situations when I check out certain blogs or tags that some people shoot at one another and it’s just unnecessarily, but then again, on tumblr everything seems to be normal to do that.

Sometimes people like my older posts and I look at these posts and realize:‌‌ I’m not that blogger anymore. Nor will I‌ ever be that blogger anymore. Time changed, People changed. We move on, We evolve.

Over the years people left, the vibe around tumbr changed and people did as well. Don’t get me wrong I met incredible nice people over the years and I enjoy seeing them on my dash and interacting with them. But overall there is a weird vibe going around tumblr. Too much toxicity, too much hate. I will never understand why people won’t mind their own business. There’s so much drama. I’ve been off tumblr and life has been good. Sometimes I‌ would see stuff on here and it made me question certain things.

I start to ask if this site is still made for me. Seeing that more and more weird things are happening on this site makes me wonder if more people will become like this or that, if more people in general will join this site and will be like that or this. Not gonna give examples, everyone needs to have their own opinion on this site. I don’t know the answer to that tbh but I will once eventually but yeah it’s hard. I’m a person who doesn’t let someone else ruin my fun, but then again which fun? Like in life we sometimes deal with problem and we can solve them but on tumblr?‌ That’s not the case. That’s why on tumblr is hard to keep going. I never understood back then why all the people I used to look up to left, but after a certain moment I‌ understood why.

Coming back to tumblr, I joined this site back then bc of two major reasons and that’s bc I wanted to support my club and my favorite player. My Club like previous mentioned is nothing but a shadow of what they used to be. It’s not for me about winning constantly, don’t think of me like that, it’s like I mentioned, the will to pull of a good fight the desire to win this game at any cost and play their best football, that’s not there. My favorite player?‌ I wonder he can still smile after being benched all over again. He’s such a inspiring person I’m not even kidding, he got benched 6 games in a row and then when he finally started he scored a header (he’s 176 cm)‌ and became Man of the Match during that game. Could you ask for more?‌‌‌ Probably not.

Favre. That’s not only the whole’s Team problem but also Mario’s. Favre is probably the most ungrateful person‌‌ I know. When Marco and Paco where injured last season MARIO was there. He played, he showed off and delivered. When we lost to Bayern 5-0 and he didn’t start Mario he shamelessly admitted in the presse conference afterwards that it was a mistake to not let Mario play. Mario has done so much, fought his way back, but Favre?‌ Favre never trusted Mario. He could have played the game of his life and that would’t have changed anything. Favre just doesn’t trusts Mario and it hurts. Like I could understand if he would does shitty but that’s not the case. Favre gives no no wait, he handles out more opportunities to any other player in the squad when they bottle something up but Mario?‌ He doesn’t do anything wrong and yet he gets always outlined. Favre will always be for me a piece of shit. The fact that he’s so ungrateful makes me explode. Mario Götze did more in 5 minutes in Barcelona than some other players who played nearly or the whole game, enough said.

So yes, Dortmund has been nothing but annoying lately, Favre has gotten me even worse, My favorite player gets treated like a poor dog and Tumblr itself is getting weird, the vibe changes often sometimes it’s fun sometimes it’s not.

Excuse me for my disappearing and my rant. Sometimes certain things are needed to be done.

30 DAY (WEEK) OTP CHALLENGE Masterlist

“I’ve got the TV set up!” Hansol calls out, and Seungkwan bounds into the living room, arms precariously full of snacks and drinks, shit eating grin on his face when he dumps it onto the coffee table.

“I’ve got the snacks prepared, and enough drinks to keep us hydrated for the next six hours,” Seungkwan rubs his hands in glee, curling up next to Hansol, who moves away instinctively.

“No cuddles? Fine,” Seungkwan huffs, pouting at the screen as they wait for the game to load. Hansol laughs, leaning over to press a gentle kiss to Seungkwan’s bare cheek.

“You flail when you game, kwannie,” he coos, and Seungkwan mutters under his breath, cheeks heating up in embarrassment.

“How about a warm up first?” Hansol suggests, thumb hovering over the controls. “It’s been ages since we’ve had this much free time to shoot zombies. Let’s see who can score higher,” Hansol sends Seungkwan a wicked smile as the game starts up, revealing the dusty streets of Hong Kong.

“I’m going to fucking destroy you,” Seungkwan growls, gaze turning to focus on the approaching zombies.

Jeonghan nearly drops his phone when he hears Seungkwan shriek in anger, and wonders mildly if he should check on the two of them, wincing when he hears Hansol swear loudly in English.

“Who the fuck taught them to swear like that,” he grumbles, yelping when Jisoo throws a pillow in his face.

“You,” Jisoo deadpans, turning back to his laptop to finish re-watching Yuri on Ice. Jeonghan pouts, throwing the pillow back at his boyfriend.

“We’re stuck in the house because of the stupid lockdown, pay attention to meeeee,” Jeonghan pouts, and Jisoo shifts wordlessly, patting the now-empty space next to him, eyes never leaving his screen.

Jeonghan debates ignoring Jisoo, but he’s bored out of his mind, so he figures that a little anime couldn’t hurt.

“Hey that looks like you and I,” Jeonghan comments lightly, and Jisoo stares at him, blinking in confusion.

“Yeah, I had my hair silver at one point, remember? Before I cut it,” he grins wickedly, and Jisoo’s eyes narrow. “And of course, I can actually skate aroun- oOF!”

The loud thud in the bedroom makes Seungkwan and Hansol stop their petty character fight, both of them making a face at the thought of their members messing around while everyone was home.

“Gross... you’d think Shua hyung would have some control,” Seungkwan mutters, and Hansol snorts.

“They’re making up for lost time or something. But forget about them, focus! What about Jake and Sherry? Obviously I’m Jake.”

“Excuse you Chwe Hansol, I’m playing Jake!”

Hansol snorts, and they play rock paper scissors to determine the outcome, but Seungkwan still refuses to accept defeat.

“Fine! Fine! Let’s play that one, both characters are boys!” Seungkwan announces triumphantly, and Hansol agrees easily enough, and Seungkwan huffs, declaring that he’ll be Piers, because the cute, nice, ones, are always better.

It takes all of five minutes before someone’s dead, and surprisingly, it’s not Seungkwan. Hansol grumbles incessantly about the stupid zombies and their ridiculous weapons, but complains even more whe Seungkwan doesn’t make it to him a second time.

“We’re supposed to be partners!” Hansol protests, groaning when they have to start all over again, and Seungkwan just throws a chip at the rapper.

“You’re the one who tried to go all hero and died the second we got into the room,” Seungkwan snarks, expertly shooting a zombie in the head while Hansol struggles to get up, popping a pill near Seungkwan so they both regain health.

“I’m rusty,” Hansol whines, focusing his stare onto the screen. “Just you wait.”

Three hours, four chapters, three bags of chips, and six cans of soft drinks later, the tables have turned indeed. Hansol seems to know where to go, the weak spots of every zombie, and where those elusive emblems are, while Seungkwan barely manages to stay alive, consistently lagging behind Hansol and getting attacked. Hansol’s death count is at a whopping two, while Seungkwan’s died twice in the last ten minutes.

“It’s so not fair okay! They’re all targeting me! This game is rigged,” Seungkwan complains, throwing down his remote down in frustration when he dies yet again.

“Seriously, kwannie, just run. Don’t try and shoot, just run,” Hansol yells, cursing loudly when Seungkwan nearly gets crushed (again), and they finally, finally, make it to the underwater tunnels.

Hansol sighs as Seungkwan flails uselessly, plunging to his fiery death another sixteen times before the finally make it out, and he sets his controller down to watch the disaster that is chapter five of Chris and Piers’ story unfold.

Hansol sneaks a glance at Seungkwan, who stares at the screen in horror as Piers’ tragic fate is revealed before his eyes. He frantically presses buttons to learn about his new… skill, yelling at the TV incoherently as he attacks the boss with his newly acquired skill set.

The final credits roll, and Suengkwan is ugly crying, wailing about the unfairness of it all. Hansol’s… not as affected, and he just wraps an arm around his boyfriend, patting his head comfortingly.

“Why aren’t you crying about it?” he wails. “It’s- it’s tragic!” he sobs into Hansol’s shoulder, and Hansol wills himself not to laugh at Seungkwan’s reaction to the ending.

“I’ve played this before. Knew it was going to happen, just wanted to see your reaction,” Hansol shrugs offhandedly, almost falling off the sofa when Seungkwan shoves him hard. He really shouldn’t laugh, but Seungkwan’s attempt at being angry, with his red rimmed eyes and tear stained cheeks, is just too adorable to fear.

“You’re a dick,” Seungkwan huffs, getting up to put some cold packs so his eyes don’t swell, while Hansol lounges on the sofa, starting another round of quickfire zombie killing. “And you owe me cuddles later!” he yells.

Hansol just hums his agreement, eyes trained on killing all the zombies on screen while Seungkwan works through his grief.

Half an hour later, and Hansol’s mostly kept his word. They’ve been shooed off to bed by Seungcheol, who claims that anyone in maknae line isn’t allowed to watch the movie they’re about to play.

“Just you wait, Choi Seungcheol,” Seungkwan grumbles, face nestled comfortably on Hansol’s chest as SEVENTEEN crack videos play in the background. “One day they’ll catch us, then they won’t shoo us away like little kids anymore.”

Hansol shakes his head, kissing the side of his boyfriend’s head gently. “S’not like we don’t know what they’re watching,” he answers nonchalantly. “Besides,” he smirks, tossing his phone aside and turning to Seungkwan, eyeing the vocalist wickedly. “The real thing is so much more fun.”

Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom -- An Honest Review

[Warning: I give an honest review that focuses not only on plot but on writing and character as well. As this is an opinion, you can take it as seriously as you want, but understand that my goal is to review, not shame or praise the author.]

HELLO FRIENDS!

I’m back with more bookish content for you, namely, review(s)! So I saw this book series was super popular a little while ago. I put it on my TBR and totally forgot about it, but recently I decided to pick it up and read it and OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

(That stands for Oh my goodness gracious good gordy grappling grips gone... I’m just gonna end the joke there before I end up losing all of my followers in one go.)

Anyway, it was a delight to read and I am here to review not only Six of Crows, but it’s companion novel, Crooked Kingdom!

So before I get into any spoilers concerning either novel, I would like to take a moment and say that overall, I gave this series a 9/10. For many, this was a 10/10 read, and I completely understand why. The characters were interesting and entertaining, the world was complex and well done, and the plots seemed to make sense, with everything tying back in. So I can wholeheartedly understand why people love these books so much. On the other hand, I gave this a 9/10 because I feel like I caught a few things that other people might not have, or there were some problems with how things were presented that I thought could’ve been polished a little more. (Really, there were just parts that needed polishing and that was it. So that’s what I’ll be focusing on.)

But anyway... for those who don’t know, I start a book with a minimum 5/10 expectation and adjust my scores from there. So clearly I highly enjoyed the book, and there’s not much else to say about that.

Now moving onto spoilers!

(But stop, because if you haven’t read these books then you might spoil a lot more for yourself than you wish and you’ll regret reading this if you haven’t. If not, continue on, fellow Dreg!)

(Also, in tribute to how I imagine Kaz would look, I will use nothing but Andy Biersack GIFS. You’re welcome.)

Starting off with Six of Crows... there seems to be a major debate going around about whether Six of Crows was better or if Crooked Kingdoms took the crown. And I would be lying if I said I didn’t have my own opinions about this. My conclusion: Six of Crows was the better book, while Crooked Kingdoms was the better romance. (And yes, you can separate these things.)

One of the interesting things about having a character like Kaz Brekker is that Kaz keeps company who he qualifies as worth keeping. Having said that, you have to place a value on each of the characters and determine who Kaz really would keep around or not. Inej has immense value, as Kaz can let down his guard around her and expect her to keep every one of his secrets. Nina has value, not only as a soldier, but as a healer, and furthermore, as someone Kaz can manipulate. Jesper has some value as a sharpshooter, but his value lies more in the fact that he’s a fabricator hidden in sight. He’s also easily manipulated, and while somewhat more of a wild card, still easy to account for. Wylan even offers a big asset seeing his heritage and his skill set. But I always struggled to discover what purpose Matthias served.

Now in Six of crows, he has a pretty clear purpose, at least, for half the time. His skill set is weak, and his ability to make choices is ridiculously questionable, but he at least has the knowledge that one needs to get into this frozen fortress. But once we enter the Crooked Kingdom, Matthias has no purpose. He’s chosen not to return to being a soldier, he can’t commit crimes to save his life, he can’t blend in, he can’t spy, he can’t fight well, he has no expertise in weapons, his whole purpose seems to be centered around Nina. “Fight for Nina, protect Nina, help Nina.” At which point Matthias becomes less of a character and more of a plot device.

And while I understand we are having an arc of Kaz Brekker essentially becoming more and more human and less and less “Dirtyhands, Bastard of the Barrel”, Kaz wouldn’t keep Matthias around for one more second than necessary, other than to placate Nina. (And given how Matthias seems to have little interest in money, this seems even truer.)

(And many of you might say: well this is Matthias’s time to overcome his prejudices and show people of previous prejudices they can do so to! It’s an important arc to his character! Well, the problem is... he’s hardly a character. Take away that one train of thought and all you have left is “Nina this, Nina that, Nina, Nina, Nina.” Get what I mean?)

So, in that aspect, I believe that Six of Crows is better written when it comes to the characters dynamic, give/take relationships.

There’s one other thing that I believe helps define Six of Crows as the better book, are we get more of a look at the plot and what’s going to happen than Crooked Kingdom. I don’t know about you, my friend, but I’m getting really tired of the whole, “there’s a plot! I’m just not going to let you in on any of it because then you’d already see the whole thing and I can’t make up for it in writing!” Style of plots. It’s obnoxious and I feel rather patronized for the writer to feel that they need to spell out the entire plot for me to understand what is occurring. That or that the writer can’t trust themselves not to spoil the plot before the plot actually unfolds.

Either way, you’re either mocking your reader or showing that you can’t figure out how to write your own story in such a way that both teases the mind while satisfying the need for the plot to be discovered.

Now you’re probably sitting there either thinking “great, but what about Crooked Kingdom? What about that? What’s good about that?” And all I can say is ROMANCE.

Crooked Kingdom does have a great plot, and I don’t want to make it sound like the only thing in the book is romance, but honestly, it’s one of those things where you come for the plot and you stay for the romance.

The plot, while interesting, was a little overwhelming. If you weren’t paying attention, you’d miss a bunch of the tiny little details about what’s actually going on and the implications that those actions have. Then, next thing you know, you’d be reading about how Jesper suddenly has the ability to control the bullets he shoots.

But the romance, on the other hand, was very well paced. (The whole Nina and Matthias thing just felt a little bit like wasted potential but otherwise...)

KAZ AND INEJ: I’VE RARELY READ SUCH GOOD ROMANCE THAT ACCURATELY PORTRAYS PTSD WITHOUT MAKING IT SO DRAMATIC AND UNBELIEVABLE, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME NOT SAYING THAT LOVE CAN CURE MENTAL DISORDERS.

Plus~

WYLAN AND JESPER ARE SLOWLY BECOMING THE BEST THING FOR EACH OTHER AND I AM HERE FOR THE OTHER TRYING TO MAKE THE OTHER PROUD. WHAT A GREAT SHIP THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Literally, I cannot think of such few ships that have automatically topped my OTP within 2 books. I can’t. Not even the Infernal Devices ever achieved that and they’re a powerful duo. For me, I tend to see a regression of most of my popular ships on book two. Yet these couples are going strong, and with the promise of a third book, I can’t wait to see where they go next.

So... overall. Unpopular opinion: Matthias was a bit of a wasted character, and because Nina’s story was so heavily tied to his, I found it to slowly slide into the problem category as well. Another unpopular (or maybe highly popular?) opinion: Kaz Brekker is a great character. But not because he murders people, but because he is consistent in his actions, feelings, and thoughts and is not glorified to be this abusive jerk, but rather, wonderfully horrible person. He’s actually horrible, but he’s an interesting kind of horrible that makes me want to keep reading.
