At the lake scene for closure, Wille asks Simon what happened to make him want to break up because he doesn't fully understand, but Simon doesn't want to talk about it. One, I think it hurts Simon to think about what led up to his decision, but two: talking about it explicitly might mean having to talk about the toxic pressure being Crown Prince has on Wille.
I theorise that Simon didn't want to further influence Wille's ideas about the role and duty to the monarchy. It's why he specifically asks Wille in the road scene, "Did you do it for my sake?" He does not want Wille to change his life for him. He is all about self-actualization and free choice.
I am very sure that their break-up will come up in further conversations or arguments they have down the road.

With the final season of YR coming up, I’ve been thinking about Wille’s journey again. Because he’s 16, we won’t know if he actually chooses to renounce his title or remain in his role as future king, but I have a feeling this season will give us an indication which way it will go. So, before we get any type of confirmation, I want to get my current thoughts out. I’m aware that a lot of YR Tumblr skews toward King Wilhelm so my pro-renounce post might not resonate with anyone and that’s ok. I just want to put all my thoughts together before S3 comes along with something that totally blows all my opinions and assumptions out of the water 🙂
I understand the idea of wanting Wille to be King because he could be such a great leader. He is kind and compassionate and can be good at taking charge. BUT just because a person could be good at something, doesn’t mean they should be forced to do it. My number one reason for being in favor of Renouncing his Title is the sheer fact that Wille doesn’t want to be King. He doesn’t want the title. He doesn’t want that life. Wille has been shown a multitude of times talking about how he struggles with the duties that come with being a prince.

He's also talked about how he feels trapped in this position. For him, to renounce the throne would be freedom. Freedom to live a life he actually wants.
Even the mere idea of staying in his current position makes him physically ill.
Some people take the end of episode 2x06 to mean he’s moved beyond all that and accepted his role as the future king. I didn’t personally see it that way. I saw it as a combination of a few things.
1) When come face-to-face with it, he just couldn’t let August give the speech (But the fact that he was initially willing to let someone who distributed revenge porn against him become king really speaks to how much he definitely doesn’t want that position)
2) He didn’t want Simon to have to compromise his happiness and give in to a situation he didn’t actually want
3) He didn’t want to hide anymore. He wanted to be himself. Wille is a person who craves authenticity. Which brings me to a bigger point…
Life as the Crown Prince / King is inherently inauthentic. One of the main pro-King arguments is that he would blaze his own trail and do things his way. But how? Being a member of the royal family is a job. The basic responsibilities of that job are to do things like diplomatic visits, hosting events, being part of photo ops, schmoozing with people… pretty much all things having to do with putting on a public persona. It’s great that he could be himself in the sense that he would be the first queer Crown Prince / King, but the baseline duties he would have to fulfill are still inherently inauthentic. And I don’t know how he would “do it his way” aside from just not doing it.

Erik even told Wille, the way to get through that stuff is to just pretend to be someone else.
We know he’s capable of doing it. We saw how charming he could be at Parents Day weekend. But that was because he wanted to sit with Simon and impress Simon’s mom. Other than that lunch, he mostly hid in his room. And it goes back to my original point. Just because someone may be good at something doesn’t mean they should be forced to do it. (And yes, even if he walked away from the line of succession, he could still have familial obligations, but it wouldn’t be anywhere near the level of what is expected now)
At this point, Wille is only continuing as Crown Prince because of a commitment to his family. Mainly Erik.
He doesn’t want to let him down or feel like he’s betraying his legacy. To Wille, Erik was perfect. We only saw two full conversations between them and in both conversations, Erik was telling Wille to get his act together because “it’s not that hard”.
That quote is probably something he told Wille a lot. So much that Wille later regurgitates it to Boris. Three different times.
Going on to say that Erik could handle everything easily.
Based on the fact that Erik was going to Boris, he probably wasn’t managing everything with ease. But in Wille’s perception, he was. Wille is basically chasing a ghost. Self-imposed pressure of unattainable perfection. He bears a guilt that pushes him to want to be someone he thinks Erik would be proud of.
The problem with that is, Erik was a monarchist. Maybe he struggled a bit (which is why he went to Boris), but based on the things he would say to Wille, he backed the monarchy / family completely.
Ultimately, I just want Wille to be happy. Maybe S3 will completely change my outlook and I’ll root for him to become king because that’s what he wants. But right now, I think he only wants it out of a sense of obligation to Erik. And honestly…maybe my most controversial opinion…if he did stay in his position because of Erik, he probably wouldn’t change that much within the institution. I mean, he couldn’t change much even if he wanted to. He wouldn’t be allowed to do big things without the consent of the Swedish parliament and maybe a public referendum. And I doubt he’d even have the capability to make small changes. As already pointed out by @piebingo in this great post, Kristina didn’t actually want August to be next in line. But she was overruled. The Royal Court has a lot of power and making any sort of reforms or independent decisions is not that simple. Especially within an establishment that relies on keeping everything exactly the same.
But even if that weren’t true. Even if Wille could snap his fingers and make all these huge changes… part of me doesn’t think he would. I know a lot of the folks who are pro-King Wilhelm want him to become the king just so he can completely destroy it from within. But to me, in Wille’s eyes there would be no bigger betrayal to Erik’s legacy than Wille burning the institution to the ground. And if he wants to live up to Erik’s legacy. Not betray him. Not let him down. He will act as he thinks Erik would act. If Wille becomes king because of Erik, he’ll maintain the establishment because of Erik. And he would be miserable doing it.
Miserable and without Simon. Yes, my other controversial opinion. If Wille stayed as king, Wilmon wouldn’t make it. Simon is described to us as a socialist. One of his introductory scenes is him calling the monarchy the country’s biggest welfare scammers. I can’t imagine Simon giving up his musical dreams to join an institution that he hates. I also can’t imagine Wille letting him do that. That was such a big part of Wille’s growth in Season 2. Wille wouldn’t let Simon sacrifice his happiness for the sake of his own happiness (being with Simon). Even if Simon didn’t end up pursuing something in music, he made it clear in his talk with Rosh and Ayub that he wants to work hard to make something of himself.
I mean, look at him. Look at this sweet baby angel’s face when he’s told he has an opportunity that will open doors to his future. I can’t imagine him giving up his ambitions or autonomy to become prince consort. Having to live every day under royal rules and protocols. Maybe he would. I personally can’t see it.
And finally, I know a main reason people like the idea of King Wille is because we like the idea of a queer king. But as much as we all want queer representation; I don’t think it should be anybody’s responsibility to be the political representation that people want to see. Wille shouldn’t be in a position he hates because he’s queer. A queer person living their life and getting out of a toxic situation is also good representation. A person can’t fix the problem by becoming part of it. Having him be the face of an institution that’s been about exploitation and oppression isn’t going to solve it. It's always been said by Lisa and Edvin that Wille’s problem is not that he’s queer. It’s that he’s a prince. Everything about what’s making him unhappy is about him being prince / the future king. Him walking away from his title would be about him escaping a future that would make him miserable. Personally, that’s what I’m hoping for.

I think I’ll say this once, since I need to say it before I can move on to more excited posting about promos and things:
Obviously Young Royals means a lot to me. It’s become another way for me to connect with my hyphenated-American heritage and to start teaching myself Swedish again. It helped me survive a pretty brutal year of bullying at work. It made me confident enough to start the process of getting formally evaluated for autism and ADHD. I’ve been writing a 200k+ historical AU fanfic for YR—the kind of fic I always read and adored back in fandoms when I was younger, the kind of fic I wanted to write myself. I’m proud of the way that Heart and Homeland has made me a better writer, and I’m glad for the way it’s deepened my friendship with @heliza24. It is Young Royals in part that inspired by thesis on restorative justice in YA literature. When I was in the hospital last fall because I almost had a literal stroke from stress, I was comforted and kept calm by the fact that I was wearing a YR t-shirt and had a plush doll of a YR character sitting in my lap. And all of that is the short list.
As we come close to the release date, I hope that every single member of the fandom gets something they enjoy in the new season. I don’t think every person is going to get everything they want, but I genuinely hope there’s a moment, a scene, a line that brings them joy. We’ve all stuck with this series for a while, and I want us all to have something we can take with us. A little bit of sparkle for the road, if you will.
There’s of course the possibility that some of us get a lot of what we want, and others of us are let down. I know this was the case for season 2, and it feels naive to imagine that everyone in the fandom will be equally satisfied by season 3. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll enjoy the hell out of it, but I’m also trying to prepare my heart in case it’s not what I wanted. I’m trying to gently talk to myself right now and say that even if the third season leaves me upset and unsatisfied—even if the writing takes a nosedive or it’s good writing but it’s just not what I wanted—that I still learned a lot about crafting stories and being myself and surviving hardship and thinking about systems and whatever else, from this show. That my experience with the first two seasons still matters, that my work on my fic is something to be proud of. If season 3 is a disappointment, Heart and Homeland will be my new canon. I’m sure there are other people out there talking themselves up in this way too. I know we’re all pushing through the pre-season jitters.
The other thing I’m trying to reconcile right now is how I feel about the promotional material that’s come out, and the conversations around that. Like on my own, I actually feel pretty great? It’s fun to see the new stuff come in? But then I think about the ratio of Wilmon to other things and some of the responses I’m seeing to that. And I see people say like “oh the show is back to focusing on what’s actually good about it” and “it’s great that they’re doing this because the audience doesn’t really care about characters who aren’t Wilmon.” And… hello? Aren’t I the audience? Tumblr isn’t too bad (most of the time) but then there’s like, Instagram, where the Netflix Nordic posted whole set of photos of different pairs and friendships from a whole bunch of shows, and there was one (1) picture of Sara and Rousseau and I saw enough comments where people were like “ew! Vomit! Give us Wilmon instead!” that like… y’all. Frida Argento is a human being and a damn good actress, and Lisa is a good writer of female characters, and like. We can celebrate that, once in a while. We can create space for her too. It’s not Frida OR Omar and Edvin. It’s Frida AND Omar AND Edvin AND Nikita AND Malte AND Nathalie AND Mimmi AND Fabian AND Samuel AND… look I could keep on listing but I’m going to get distracted if I do.
Like, man. I love Wilmon. Don’t get me wrong. I love the complexity their relationship can run with. There are lines heliza has written for them in fic that make me swoon and I am giddy about the part where I get to read them first. I love the glowsticks. I love Wilmon’s sense of humor and the part where they cheated at Vincent’s rowing race thing and their utmost commitment to being dumbass teenage boys against the world. The first week I saw the show and came into work (where we have an athletic field) I went and took a selfie on the field after covering my hands in those gross fake dots. Look. I am all in.
And also… I came to the show for Wilmon but I stayed for so much more. I would have watched Young Royals once or twice and said “that was pleasant” without ever getting back into fanfic after a decade away, if the show was only Wilmon. I do like Wilmon, but it wasn’t Wilmon who inspired my thesis on restorative justice or made me a better writer overall. I survived that year of bullying at work because I could come home and write my ensemble fanfic, especially the parts where I focused on the non-Wilmon pairing I was in charge of writing. I finally felt confident enough to be evaluated for AuDHD because of a connection I felt to a character who wasn’t Simon or Wilhelm. It was a plush doll of a non-Wilmon character who sat in my lap and kept me calm while I was hooked up to those scary machines in the hospital this past October.
I guess my one humble request is that people be thoughtful about how they use phrases like “everyone thinks” or “no one wants.” Not every member of the fandom has the same opinion, and not every member wants the same things out of season 3, and there are some of us who are happy about the new Wilmon content but who are still feeling a little hungry for more of our most beloved characters, and hope they’ll get meaningful storylines (and not get ignored) in season 3. I do know we probably won’t all get what we want, and that some of us will probably get more of what we want than others. I hope that whatever happens, we’ll all get something we want, and we can all be gracious about it, and continue to find meaning in the canon.
For the people here on tumblr who are already including me in their everyone… thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope you know who you are and I hope you know how much I appreciate you. And I do hope this Little Fandom That Could can keep going into all sorts of new creative places.

YR Season 3 speculations: a layperson’s take on the criminal justice side
I’ve been considering making this kind of post for a while, because I’ve seen a lot of hopeful takes on how things are going to play out now that Sara has called the police, and I feel like I could add some perspective for those less familiar with the Swedish justice system. I hesitate to do it because I’m just a layperson and not even from Sweden but the next country over - but our justice systems are reasonably similar, I’ve spent a lot of time poring over relevant sources on Swedish law and justice, and @scatteredpiecesofme encouraged me to do this after our conversation yesterday.
So, here goes, haha.
As usual, I could very well be wrong about some things, and I welcome any additions or corrections!
Part 1: The system
Let’s start with a cultural observation: the criminal justice system in Sweden strives to be rehabilitative (restorative) instead of strictly punitive (retributive). This is especially true for young and first-time offenders, who are yet to develop a ‘criminal lifestyle.’ Fines, suspended sentences, and sentences on the lower end of the scale are the norm unless the crime is very serious. (See for example this text in Swedish about how the brain only fully matures at 25 and how young people experience punishments more severely.)
Swedish law recognises three different age brackets for offenders: 15 to 18, 18 to 21, and over 21 (adult). The punishments for young adults were harshened in Jan 2022 for some severe crimes (mostly to counter gang violence), but YR is set in the autumn of 2020 and spring of 2021. With that in mind, let’s review the situation that should apply in the show.
Firstly, the now-outdated law and practice include something known as ungdomsrabatt (juvenile discount). Any sentence given to an 18-year-old is normally reduced to 50% of an adult’s sentence, and a sentence given to a 16-year-old is reduced further so they get about 20-25% of an adult’s sentence. This can either mean a reduced version of the same sentence, or an alternative, more lenient sentence. Punishment can also be waived entirely for juveniles sentenced to minimal fines for minor offences (e.g. minor narcotics offences).
Secondly, there are some punishments specifically designed for young offenders. Ungdomstjänst (youth community service) and ungdomsvård (youth/juvenile care) mostly apply to those under 18 but can also apply to those under 21 where appropriate. The latter is for those in need of social service intervention; it’s an open arrangement where the juvenile continues living at home. Sluten ungdomsvård (institutional youth care) only comes into play in very serious cases. It’s the primary punishment for minors who would otherwise face imprisonment and, under the old law, also for those under 21, unless there are very heavy grounds for prison time.
There is also something called ungdomsövervakning (youth supervision); basically youth care with more restrictions. However, it was only introduced in Jan 2021, which means it cannot be applied to crimes committed earlier (for example in YR S1).
As mentioned, juveniles can also be sentenced to reduced versions of the same punishments as adults. For young adults, that most likely means a suspended sentence and/or community service and/or fines. These fines are often dagsböter (day-fines), which can range from 50 to 1000 kronor based on the defendant’s income, wealth, and debts for example. The minimum number is 30 fines, the maximum is 150, or 200 for several crimes. There can also be some other financial consequences, e.g. a 1000-krona payment to the Crime Victim Fund or compensation for the victim (these are much lower sums than in the US, for example).
Here’s a made-up example from Domarbloggen: three people aged 16, 18 and 22 beat someone up together. The 22-yo gets 4 months’ imprisonment, which means the 18-yo should get 2 months. Instead, she gets a suspended sentence and 75 hours of community service. The 16-yo should get 1 month, but that is commuted to 50 hours of youth community service. Social services are (and must be) involved for the 16 and 18-yo but find that they are not in need of any services.
Thirdly, juveniles are processed differently from adults. If someone younger than 21 is suspected of a crime, the police investigation that starts when the crime comes to light must be conducted without delay. For those under 18, there’s a time limit of 6 weeks from the initial police report to the decision to prosecute. In many cases, the prosecutor can simply decide not to bring charges and hand the matter over to social services instead. (See for example this Q&A document on the old law, in English.)
Young offenders are also often eligible for förundersökningsbegränsning (limitation of preliminary investigation) and åtalsunderlåtelse (no-prosecution deal). In the former, the police and prosecutor decide not to investigate the crime, and in the latter, the suspect confesses their guilt to avoid being charged or tried for that particular crime. There are specific circumstances in which these can come into play - for example, when there are several crimes being investigated/charged and the crime in question would not affect the sentencing, or the sentence would be minor anyway. Here’s more info on the reasoning in Swedish, but it’s basically done to save resources for other crimes. The sentence for all the crimes committed is determined as a whole; it does not necessarily match the sum total of all the individual sentences. Accepting a deal means the crime will still go on the person’s criminal record.
If sufficient evidence is found and the matter does go to trial, the court can decide to hold it behind closed doors if the parties are young and/or to protect them from negative publicity. The judge must also be specialised in juvenile cases if the defendant is under 18.
Trials in this corner of the world are usually rather boring compared to what you see on TV. There’s no jury or heated cross-examination. The facts are presented, the injured party, defendant, and witnesses are heard, and the court considers the case. (Here’s a detailed description and even a 24-minute film in Swedish.)
The bar for detaining young offenders before and after the trial is higher than for adults, but it can happen if they are considered dangerous or there’s a risk of them destroying evidence/influencing the witnesses (for minors, the social services usually watches over them instead). There is no bail system.
Oh, and if someone is sentenced to prison after all, they are not necessarily taken away directly after the trial. Serving the sentence may be postponed until the period of appeal runs out (often 3 months after the sentence enters into force, according to the Prison and Probation Service).
So, now that we know the framework, let’s take a look at the crimes that could come into light in YR S3! Not just those committed by August, but also those committed by Simon and Wilhelm.
Part 2: The crimes committed by the mains in YR
All excerpts quoted are from an English translation of the Swedish Criminal Code. I will include some of my own interpretations in the context of the show - but while reading those, please keep in mind that I’m just a layperson and could well be completely mistaken!
Kränkande fotografering (intrusive photography): August
A person who unlawfully, by means of a technical device, covertly records an image of a person who is indoors in a home, or in a toilet, dressing room or other similar space, is guilty of intrusive photography
(Swedish Criminal Code, Chapter 4, Section 6a)
Scale of punishment for adults: fines or prison up to 2 years.
I don’t think this should be very hard to prove now that Wille has admitted to being on the video. August could of course claim it was someone else using his phone, but I think it should definitely be someone other than Alexander, who had already been caught with the drugs.
Olaga integritetsintrång (unlawful breach of privacy): August
A person who intrudes into the private life of another person by disseminating:
1. an image of or other information about a person’s sexual life;
(...)
4. an image of a person in a very vulnerable situation; or
5. an image of a person’s wholly or partially naked body
is, if the dissemination is liable to result in serious damage to the person whom the image or information concerns, guilty of unlawful breach of privacy
(Swedish Criminal Code, Chapter 4, Section 6c)
Scale of punishment for adults: fines or prison up to 2 years for normal severity, prison from 6 months to 4 years for gross offences.
This is the revenge porn clause. In reality, sadly few cases lead to a conviction; for example in 2021, only 27 out of 1876 cases. The perpetrator can always claim their device/account was hacked, for example, and it’s hard to disprove that. We’ll see if Sara’s testimony and August having admitted his guilt to Wilhelm are enough.
Förtal (defamation): August
A person who identifies someone as being a criminal or as having a reprehensible way of life, or otherwise provides information liable to expose that person to the contempt of others is guilty of defamation
(Swedish Criminal Code, Chapter 5, Section 1)
Scale of punishment for adults: fines for normal severity, fines or prison up to 2 years for gross offences.
Note that defamation does not have to be untrue in Sweden! It’s the ‘exposing that person to contempt’ that matters. However, if the defendant can show that the information was true and they were a) obliged to make this kind of statement or b) it was “otherwise justifiable to provide information about the matter”, they are not held responsible. August’s lawyer would probably argue that spreading the video of Wille was a matter of national importance.
A note on aggravating or special circumstances:
Both unlawful invasion of privacy and defamation can be considered gross if the information or image or the method of dissemination was liable to result in serious damage. This bumps up the potential consequences.
Normally, charges can only be brought for the above crimes by the injured party. However, the prosecutor could also choose to bring charges on their own in cases where public interest calls for it. The same goes for defamation if the injured party is under 18 or reports the crime in connection with another investigation, and public interest calls for prosecution. In this case, it doesn’t matter if the injured party wants the case to be pursued or not. So in my view, any potential resolution where Simon and/or Wille decide not to pursue these crimes should be written very carefully to exclude public prosecution.
There’s also another interesting angle that I haven’t seen thrown around much. It was first brought to my attention by a friend on ao3, and I can’t believe it’s still a thing in 21st century Sweden, but it is.
Högmålsbrott (treasonable offences): August
A person who commits an offence referred to in Chapters 3–5 that involves abuse of the King or another member of the Royal House, or of a person discharging the duties of the Head of State as regent, may be sentenced to imprisonment for at most four years if the offence can otherwise result in imprisonment for at most six months, and for at most six years if the offence can otherwise result in imprisonment for more than six months but at most four years.
(Swedish Criminal Code, Chapter 18, Section 2)
Yes, really. Wille being one of the injured parties could complicate things for August when it comes to the above crimes, because they belong to chapters 4 & 5. He’s not actually going to get six years in prison for gross defamation, that’s just the maximum for adults, but it’s an interesting angle and a potential aggravating factor.
Next up, the elephant in the room.

I don’t think I need to describe what this means; you can look it up in Chapter 16, Sections 10a and 10b. I’m not going to write it out so this post doesn’t get flagged.
Scale of punishment for adults: fines or prison up to 6 months for minor offences. Prison up to 2 years for normal severity.
Rickard did say that this could land August in prison, but I am highly sceptical. For comparison, consider this case, where an 18-yo who had 540 images in his possession, 98 of those particularly graphic, was only sentenced to 60 hours of youth community service, despite having disseminated some material on social media on two occasions. Or this one, where an 18-yo who was in possession of a video sent to him via SnapChat for a few months, was sentenced to 45 hours of the same - although he was 17 at the time of the crime.
August was 18, but on the other hand, the video he made and disseminated was short, not very graphic, and meant to defame the people in it rather than arouse those who view it. By law, the age and developmental gap between the victim(s) and perpetrator must also be taken into consideration, and as we know, it’s only two years. I’m inclined to think August is only looking at a minor offence - if charges are even brought at all.
So, the fandom should probably prepare for a more lenient sentence than many are hoping for! Ironically enough, the opposite is true for the next crime, which also applies to Simon and, to a lesser degree, Wille.
Narkotikabrott (narcotics offence): August, Simon, Wilhelm
Any person who unlawfully
1. transfers narcotics,
2. manufactures narcotics intended for misuse,
3. acquires narcotics for the purpose of transfer,
4. procures, processes, packages, transports, keeps or in some other similar way handles narcotics which are not intended for personal use,
5. offers narcotics for sale, keeps or conveys payment for narcotics, mediates contacts between seller and purchaser or takes any other such measure, if the procedure is designed to promote narcotics traffic, or
6. possesses, uses or otherwise handles narcotics
shall, if he has acted wilfully, be sentenced for a narcotic drug offence
(Penal Law on Narcotics, Section 1)
Scale of punishment for adults: prison up to 3 years for normal severity. Fines or prison up to 6 months for minor offences.
Swedish law is strict on narcotics crimes. Both Simon and August are guilty of several of the above, while Wille is only guilty of use. Wille’s offence would be considered minor, and the punishment might even be waived. However, I think it’s quite likely Simon and August might be looking at normal severity, and Rickard would probably advise August against bringing it up just to spite Simon.
If August went against that advice or the matter came out another way, he would probably get a harsher sentence than Simon on account of his age - although he could provide mitigating circumstances for the selling by saying that Simon coerced him...
In any case, Simon wouldn’t get off with a slap on the wrist either. He sold drugs on two separate occasions - ADHD drugs (which are amphetamine derivatives) and possibly also strong painkillers. Micke’s back pain was specifically mentioned in S1, we saw Simon steal Tramadol (which is an opioid) when he first got pills for August, and there was clearly more in that bag than just the ADHD meds. Amphetamine derivatives and opioids are specifically classified as narcotic drugs due to their potential for misuse, even if the drugs in question (Tramadol and lisdexamfetamine) aren’t as bad as some others.
Furthermore, Simon also committed:

Scale of punishment for adults: fines or prison up to 6 months for minor offences, prison up to 2 years for normal severity, prison from 6 months to 6 years for gross offences.
It’s hard to say what the severity would be. On the one hand, it was just a few boxes and bottles of pills, and the value of the stolen goods should generally be over 1000 kronor to even be considered normal severity (case from 2009). On the other hand, committing theft as part of “criminal activities conducted systematically” is an aggravating circumstance. But I think the prosecutor would be lenient with a 16-yo like Simon and just focus on the narcotics crime (åtalsunderlåtelse for the theft).
Let’s proceed to the last crime, which is something I haven’t really seen a lot of people mention.
Olaga hot (unlawful threat): Wilhelm
A person who threatens another person with a criminal act in a manner that is liable to occasion serious fear in the person threatened for the safety of their own or someone else’s person, property, liberty or peace is guilty of making an unlawful threat
(Swedish Criminal Code, Chapter 4, Section 5)
Scale of punishment for adults: prison from 9 months to 4 years for gross offences. Fines or prison up to 1 year for normal severity.
It’s highly unlikely that Wille’s shotgun waving would come out unless someone accidentally let it slip when questioned about the other offences. So the risk is slim, but I think it still deserves to be included, because an unlawful threat usually becomes a gross offence when a weapon is used. It’s also a publically prosecutable offence, which means August wouldn’t have the power to drop the charges. Note that the ‘treasonable offences’ clause doesn’t apply, because August has not officially been appointed as next in line by Parliament.
Like I said, I don’t think there’s any reason for August to sour his relationship with the Crown by dropping Wilhelm in it. I just wanted to include the threat to be thorough and show how much of a mess this could theoretically become.

I guess the main point I wanted to make with this marathon post was that I really, really hope the criminal justice side is handled realistically in S3 now that a police investigation probably can’t be avoided. We shouldn’t expect anyone to be locked up with the key thrown away, due to the young age of everyone involved and the leniency built into the system. Also, the severest consequences could well come from the crimes that don’t sound as serious on the surface, such as the drug stuff - and Wille being one of the injured parties. (Or the potentially gross unlawful threat, but I doubt that’s going to come out.)
I’m intrigued to see what Lisa and co have in store for us, because they have a very real chance to highlight some interesting questions here.
Which (if any) of the potential crimes will August, who can liquidate enough money to pay for a great legal team, actually get punished for? Will he get off with fines and maybe some youth community service? Will the Alexander defence actually work when it really shouldn’t? Will social services get involved and maybe make August get some help for his issues? How will his social standing be affected when people learn it was him behind the video? Will the consequences finally teach him some accountability (which he definitely hasn’t learned growing up; see my analysis post about his upbringing and background)?
How about Simon? Can he avoid getting harshly punished for his dealing? How will social services treat him and his family if they get involved? Will his future and education be affected? Will he feel victimised again when the video matter is investigated (which could involve more publicity due to Wille’s involvement)? Could Micke try to claim he forced Simon to carry the drugs and sell them, to provide mitigating circumstances (and would Simon let his estranged dad risk imprisonment for him)?
And finally, is it fair that Wille being one of the injured parties could make the crimes more severe and extract “more justice”? Even though Simon was the one who couldn’t just deny being on the video to escape the negative consequences?
We shall see.

The beauty of sunsets, of eternity, of holy feelings, of love and of revolutions ! Let's talk summer eve’s magic, bonfires and YR's S3 trailer (Young royals analysis)
So we are all ventilating, shaking, dying a little bit inside just to be resuscitated the next moment, because of all this yearning for YR season 3. Let’s rejoice and suffer together with a little bit of YR conversations post S3 trailer.
So as all of us, I can’t get over the beauty of these lake scenes. And I also can’t get over Lisa Ambjörn’s gift of Karin Boye’s poem, "Eternity" – which I discovered – on her insta feed. Karin Boye’s poem links the summer sun with love, memories, the feeling of appeasement, eternity and it’s “sacred secret”. The contemplation of this sunset is linked with holy love. It’s the neverending cycle, the promise of an eternal return, apart from the water metaphor that TVM linked with Wilmon’s love. Go check the blog, as amazing as always, the article on the water metaphor is free.
In some of the trailers' shots, in the lake scenes, the characters do not face us but face the grandiose paysage and bask in it's beautiful eternity. We see their back. It can remind us of some romanticist paintings (TVM's courtesy, go check on their Substack blog all about painting's analysis in YR. It's amazing, as usual. It's a paid post so I will not give more details as it doesn't belong to me. But it's really worth any cent invested in it) .
And in the last layer, we can perhaps link the summer lake scene with the bonfire scene. Bonfires, be it the Valborg eve’s bonfire or be it the midsummer’s eve bonfire occur on a late may or a late june's eve. Both are talking place on an evening when we are given the promise of the end of dark times, the welcoming of an enlightened time. On the shot in the trailer, we also see Wilmon is not facing us, we see their back (and their profile) like in the lake scenes. And in both scenes, they are having a convo about their relation, the future of their love. In both scenes, we have the water and the flamboyant fire, or its colors in the sunset. The fact that they are not facing us also gives them the very much needed "semi-privacy" from our prying eyes.
So is it time for a revolution, for new beginnings ? What's your take on this ?

Ani, I need your help! I recently started reading Stranger Things fix again. The last time I was reading ST fic was circa 2018, and I’m pleased to report that the quality of writing in the fandom is still high! Here’s the situation: I have not watched season 3 or 4. I’m not gonna let that stop me. (Confidently entering the discussion without having completed the required reading is one of my skills). But this means the only exposure to Eddie Munson I have had is through you posting about him. Which has lead me to understand certain things about his character, and now that I’m reading fic, I’m unsure what is the text of the show (Robin is a lesbian) the subtext of the show (whatever Will’s sexual orientation, they’ve used him as a temporary “bury yr gays”) and the fanon of the show (Steve is bisexual). So. I gotta ask. Is Eddie gay in the canon, the subtext, or the fanon?
omg hi I am so privileged to be your ST source!!! happy to answer any/all things!! the short answer is that Eddie’s sexuality is unclear in canon, but a couple things in the show point to gay eddie being very possible!
first—and I want to stress that this may have been either an accident on the costume department’s part—is that his costume includes a black handkerchief that might be an indicator as to his sexual preferences as a S&M top, as per the hanky code. however, I do not think that boy is an S&M top so I lean towards that not being intentional. but a lot of fans saw that and ran with it, which has fun possibilities (is he projecting, is he still figuring things out, etc.)
the second that a lot of his interactions with Steve are lowkey suggestive (everyone’s favorite: Eddie calling Steve “big boy” in the camper van……) but again I’m inclined to think this was either improv or just a way to further establish that the character’s a goof who stretches Steve’s capabilities as a leader.
some people interpret Eddie’s look at a shirtless Steve as kinda gay, but it’s also like, shock/surprise that Steve’s literally about to dive into a haunted lake to help him? Eddie’s very traumatized, I don’t think he’s thinking about hot shirtless Steve right at that moment. but again…. Interpretation’s pretty wide open. In the same vein, Steve and Eddie have a conversation about Nancy that some have interpreted as Eddie lowkey checking if steve is available, but I read it much more as Eddie being a nosy little shit & also genuinely trying to help Steve with his romantic issues. (much more about Steve’s arc than Eddie’s too—in this and other things, I think the ST writers forget that all scenes need to reveal or advance characterization for all parties involved, but Eddie’s involvement in this conversation never made a ton of sense to me.)
Eddie is also a character with a lot of “outsider” indications: not good at school and is repeating grades; poor; into metal and DND (and all the occult/Satanism accusations people leveled at DND in the 80s), and so it’s not a long jump from there to “he could also be easily seen as queer-coded”.
he does have what I would consider to be a flirtation/quasi-romance-arc with Chrissy, a cheerleader. that flirting is even more on-the-nose than any “flirting” with Steve, so I 100% headcanon Eddie as bisexual. @ people who forget that: why????? we could be having ot3s over here.
that’s a long way to say arguably subtext but mostly fanon, lol. hope this helps 😝

ending – keep me as your finish line (Stranger Things, Steve/Nancy) – So badly she wants to lie to herself and pretend she doesn’t know where this conversation, this confession, is coming from, like they haven’t been building up to it since the night Steve leapt headfirst into Lover’s Lake. The symbolism of that, by the way, isn’t lost on her.

It's a tough question because there are so many different ways for him to find out, but I think the one that's NOT going to be is for Wille to tell him because he knows Simon doesn't want to be in contact with him at the moment. So I think it's possible that he find out because Sara told him, or by listening to someone else's conversation (Sara, Felice or even August himself). Either way I think Simon will be very angry, with August obviously, Sara (and maybe Wille) for not telling him.

Idk, but if there's one I think it would be Simon fighting August after he found out it was him who leaked the video

'After the rain comes the sun' is a phrase meaning 'after the bad times, things will be happy again'. The way Sun After Rain is used in Young Royals is, ironically, contrary to it's title.
The very first time Sun After Rain is used is the episode 2 scenes where Simon steals the pills from his dad and gives them to August. The music starts the second Simon starts to pull the pills out of the drawer, and continues until the second they pass between his hands to August's. The second time is in episode 3, when Felice and August get together. It continues into the scene where Simon is collecting his items to spend the night with Wilhelm. Third time is in episode 4, when Simon is riding the bus on his own, texting Sara about Micke, and the headmistress is showing Wilhelm into his bigger room. Fourth time is Lucia in episode 5, when Wilhelm discovers someone has filmed him and Simon engaging in intimate acts and posted it on the Internet. And the fifth, and honestly most important use in my opinion, is in episode 6. It starts with Wilhelm and Simon texting about Wilhelm going home the next day, continues through them hanging out in Wilhelm's room talking about how they can't force him to deny the statement, and cuts off abruptly when Wilhelm stands up to get ready.
Every single one of these uses ties together to foreshadow an unhappy ending for season 1. It's interesting to note that there's no use of Sun After Rain in ep1 and it first appears fairly late in ep2. This song only starts to appear in the story after Simon and Wilhelm have started to express interest in each other, which is partly why it's so much more impactful in foreshadowing an unhappy ending. As I've talked about before, YR has a butterfly effect plot. Most of the plot couldn't happen without Simon dealing the pills to August—our first use of Sun After Rain. This moment where Simon takes the pills from Micke's drawer sets up pretty much every sad and happy moment from here on out. Without Simon dealing the pills, we wouldn't have all the conflict between him and August, where August reveals he's broke. Simon passes that information onto Wilhelm while they're arguing about Simon giving August the drugs that Alexander got caught with and Wilhelm ended up high on resulting in their reconciliation. Wilhelm then uses that against August, playing a part in his completely irrational decision to post the video.
The second use is Felice and August's relationship, who don't work out as a couple, and their dating contributes to August's irrational jealousy issues. Also note—he finds out about Wilhelm and Simon's relationship while he's dating Felice, but then she breaks up with him shortly before Wilhelm humiliates him in front of the Society to defend Simon. It's not at all an excuse but could contribute to his 'Wilhelm has everything' jealousy issues. The second use also shows Simon preparing to stay with Wilhelm, which we all know doesn't happen because Erik dies. That one's a little self-explanatory on how it's a foreboding omen. He doesn't get to stay with Wilhelm cause Erik is, well, dead.
The third time is very interesting actually, it doesn't look that foreboding at first. Until you remember that Simon and Sara's conversation goes:
Sara: Did Micke get in touch with you?
Simon: No?!?
Sara: He says he wants to meet up. Why?!
Simon: Omg what?! DON'T reply!
Liar liar Lucia candles on fire, dude. This links to Micke showing up at Lucia and causing family issues. It also shows Wilhelm being given a bigger, ground-level room because he's the Crown Prince now. He was in a tiny like 2 story one before. And what does August do one episode and a stupid high later? Films them. Through the window. That is at ground-level. The ground-level window that August films them through. That window. Yea. If Sun After Rain is supposed to be read as a foreboding foreshadowing omen, it makes so much sense why they chose to play it through the beginning of that scene, instead of just ending at Sara and Simon texting.
The Lucia use is obvious—Wilhelm finds out he's been secretly filmed and exposed on the Internet. It sets up everything for the next episode, especially the next use of Sun After Rain. Wilhelm's statement. Or rather, their discussion of what Wilhelm should do for the statement. The music begins with Wilhelm asking for Simon to come before he leaves—asking for support. It plays while they talk, curled up together on the floor, about how the Crown can't force Wilhelm to deny the statement—giving Simon hope for their relationship. And it abruptly ends when Wilhelm remembers he has to get ready—when he remembers he can't stay in his bubble with Simon forever, he has a duty to the Crown. As we all know, Wilhelm does end up denying that it's him. He sees his duty and what his mother said in the car as more important than acknowledging their relationship. He even says as much later, when he tells Simon they can be together as long as they aren't seen with each other in public. This scene is such an interesting use of Sun After Rain as a device of foreshadowing. The first time you watch it, you think, 'Maybe he will. Maybe he will come out and say it was him. Maybe they can be happy together.' And every single time after that, you know what's coming. You know that Wilhelm's not going to do it, that all the hope and love they're building in this scene is not going to last. You know that there won't be any sun after the rain.

Season 2 predictions tagged by @levon
Thanks for the tag @levok! I never do these things coz I always use Tumblr on my phone but I’m working from home today and have access to my laptop so here we go.
1. What month will season 2 be released?
- I’m cynical and am thinking December. I followed the timeline of how long it took to release season 1 and if production and post-production take the same amount of time, it won’t be released until December. Edvin did say they want to get it out as quickly as possible so hopefully they can get it out a bit sooner (although of course I don’t want them to rush it and I doubt they will).
2. What episode will Simon and Wilhelm have their first s2 kiss (who will initiate the kiss)?
- Maybe episode 3-4; I feel like they may have some moments where they get close but stop themselves. Of course Simon should be the one that initiates it since he’s the one that broke off their relationship and he was wronged by Wille, so things need to be on his terms, but I would be fine with Wille initiating it as long as he has clear consent from Simon.
3. How will Simon find out about August being behind the leak?
- I feel like he’ll find out by accident, like by overhearing a conversation, perhaps one that Sara is having, and they’ll have a fight about it and she’ll tell him Wille knew as well. He’ll go to confront Wille about it and it’ll be a very emotional scene.
4. Will there be snow in s2?
- I hope so.
5. Will there be any physical fight (if yes, who will be involved)?
- Yes. I think there could a confrontation between Simon and August about the video and Wille has to intervene; I picture him holding Simon’s arms back and whispering softly into his ear like, “This isn’t you, this isn’t you,” and eventually Simon just collapses against him (yes, I’m thinking of the scene in the Raven King between Adam and Ronan, okay)
6. Will Wilhelm abdicate?
- No. That will never happen. Lisa has already said she doesn’t want to get too political and that would be WAY too political. I also think it’s not that interesting.
7. Will Wilhelm make a new public statement about his sexuality?
- I could see the season ending with him making a statement and a potential season 3 starting with the aftermath. We know YR loves a spicy cliffhanger.
8. Will there be introduced another queer character (can be a s1 character - if yes, who)?
- I don’t think so, and if there is, it’ll be casually revealed about a background character. It won’t be a major character for sure.
9. Will Sara become a boarder student at Hillerska?
- I’m conflicted about this. Sara sort of blackmailed August by saying she’d tell Wille but Wille already knows. That look between them at the end was interesting for sure. I feel like it could make for good drama with her being a boarder, and it was brought up, so I’m gonna say yes, and it drives a wedge between her and Simon because we already know that’s going to happen.
10. Do we get a forehead kiss between Simon and Wilhelm (if yes, who kisses who)?
- I feel like this has become such a weirdly controversial topic lmao like now that it’s been addressed by the creators, there is this weird attitude that if we get it, it’ll feel too fanservicey. But to me, it’s just another form of intimacy. I think forehead kisses are cute and if we get one, I’ll be happy, because I love any moment of S&W being cute, but I don’t care either way because I’m sure we’re going to get many, many beautiful intimate moments between them, so I’m not really gonna comment on this one.
11. Will Simon and the queen exchange any words (if yes, who will speak first)?
- Yes. I could see Simon speaking first because he has no idea how speaking to royalty works and the Queen is offended; I want them to butt heads.
12. Will there be clothes exchange between Simon and Wilhelm (if yes, what item)?
- No. I think they’ll spend most of the season not in a relationship so there won’t really be much opportunity. Maybe in a potential season 3 when they’re in an established relationship.
13. Will Sara speak any Spanish?
- No. I think she’s going to distance herself from her family even more.
14. Will Simon become aware of Wilhelm's anxiety?
- Yes.
15. Will Wilhelm break the 4th wall at some point?
- Duh. It’s like, a thing at this point, and Edvin is so good at it.
16. Will Alex get some sort of revenge (if yes, how)?
- No. I love Alex and his actor but he really was not a very significant character; he served his purpose for the plot and I also don’t like revenge plots; I thin they’re cheesy. However, the casting call requesting a specifically East Asian actor does make me wonder...
17. Will Erik appear in any form (letter, flashback, etc.)?
- Yes. I think it could really add a lot to the story to see a flashback.
18. How many characters will cry (with tears) - who?
- Simon, Wille and Sara. I wanna see those bitches SOB. They need it; they are all so god damn emotionally repressed. Especially Simon; boy needs to let it out.
19. Will Simon and/or Wilhelm say 'Jag älskar dig' (if yes, who says it first - will they both say it)?
- Yes. I could see Wille saying it to Simon again in a sort of apology type scene and Simon still doesn’t say it back. Simon saying it back has to be a BIG moment and I think it would hit even harder if Wille says it AGAIN and Simon still doesn’t say it. What can I say? I love pain.
20. How many times will we see Simon eat pasta?
- 3
21. Who will have the first kiss in season 2 (named characters)?

Hello. This is 2PM’s Chansung.
The cold winter season is already here. I began activities when I was 17, and 15 years have passed already. A lot has happened, and there have been many memories. I express endless gratitude to HOTTEST who have created valuable memories. Today, I am telling you about changes and happiness in my life.
There is someone who I have been in a relationship with for a long time. This person has been the resting place for my unstable heart and a friend who I can share anything with for a long time, and she became my girlfriend. While preparing and planning marriage with this person after my military discharge, the blessing of a new life came to us earlier than expected, and we are planning to get married as early as the beginning of next year. We are very cautious as she is in the early stage of her pregnancy, but I am sharing this news as I thought that I should tell you first.
My partner on this road to creating a new family does not have the same job as me, so I ask for your generous understanding for not revealing her.
In addition, my contract with JYP Entertainment, which I have been with for 15 years, ends in January. I went through much discussion with the company regarding my thought to go down my own path along with the addition of my new family that I will continue life with, and we came to the mutual discussion to not renew my contract. The decision was made through communication with my future as the priority, and the company willingly gave blessings for my bright future. The company is my root and like an old friend, and we will always support each other’s growth. My definite path has not been decided yet, but I will share plans that won’t cause concern to fans.
As I relayed so much information today, I am concerned and worried about how our HOTTEST will feel at the sudden news. I will work hard as I am right now in the near future in order to impress as 2PM’s youngest member Chansung and actor Hwang Chansung.

Rambling? Venting? Idk. Vulnerability. Let’s call it vulnerability.
I don’t know if I want to even tag this because I’m trying to protect my verbal processing abilities right now and my eternal comfort movie Luca is playing in the background, so this isn’t going to be formal or polished the way I usually like to be when I’m posting, but… anyway, it totally kinda knocks me over that there are people out there who insist YR S2 wasn’t well written or Lisa is a bad writer or something because… something something our-oversimplified-version-of-wilmon-is-better-than-canon-nuanced-wilmon or some reason or other.
And I mean, when I say it knocks me over, I don’t mean it surprises me. That feels fairly standard for the internet and fandoms. I’ve been in fandoms long enough to know there’d be people with those takes. But I guess it knocks me over in… a Tired kinda way? A Deflated way? Something like that.
YR is special to me because of when I watched it the first time in summer 2021, and the things that were going on with me at the time. First, I saw it when I was completely burned out on Franchise Media (TM) and like, so incredibly exhausted from the MCU and how much everyone was still talking about it. It was refreshing to watch a show, not based on any existing IP, that delved into characters’ flaws and vulnerabilities, and that didn’t apologize for making you feel emotion and didn’t rely on quips or winking really obviously at the camera or whatever.
Second, I watched YR when I started my MFA in writing for children and young adults. The further I’ve gotten along in my program, the more I’ve felt that young people and adults alike deserve stories with moral complexity. And when we write young people as characters, the more we need morally complex stories for those characters. Teenagers live in a world that isn’t easy to navigate, and we do them a disservice when a story’s moral questions are too swiftly answered. As part of my program, I probably would have thought about issues of justice and human rights in YA lit regardless, but YR really pushed me to think of these issues in writing beyond just “good representation/bad representation.” (Which is important, but not the sum total of what authors should be focused on, and sometimes I feel like members of all fandoms overuse the word “representation” to justify their preferences. Sigh.) ANYWAY I love the way YR consistently resists easy answers and leans into its tensions. I love the way it’s always asking us, do you really want to find catharsis there? Certainly it doesn’t resolve issues by having superheroes shoot lasers at sky beams. I imagine season 3 will attempt to find some resolution for certain long running plotlines, but I also imagine what it doesn’t resolve will have the potential to open up some really interesting conversations, if we let it. Ugh, I just. Love dissecting the craft in this story! I love taking YR apart and seeing how it works.
Third, I discovered YR around the time I started to seriously think about ways in which I might be neurodivergent. (I’m doing my first intake call with a local neuropsych group in a few weeks.) While I have related to various ND or ND-coded characters before, Sara is pretty important to me because she was the first of these characters I connected to while exploring that aspect of my identity. I can see a lot of my child and teenage self in Sara’s arc; I wasn’t a horse girl but I did once beg my parents to send me to private school because I thought I’d be bullied less than in public school (they didn’t send me, because we couldn’t afford it.) I read novels set at boarding schools with a certain fascination because I imagined it as a place I could reinvent myself and be the best version of myself. I now know that I was romanticizing a pretty classist and elitist experience, but as a young person I didn’t really have the perspective to see and understand that. So I feel like I get where Sara is coming from, and I feel like her arc is such an important addition to the themes of the series. Like, we’re pulling the gilded veneer off of a really messed up system! Someone has to be drawn in by all that gold. When criticisms of season 2 boil down to “Sara had too much screen time” I like, can’t even be rational about it ahaha. (I hope people can forgive me this. I’m not saying Sara did nothing wrong, but I’m saying she has an important place in the story.)
Fourth, @heliza24 and I were friends before YR, but we were able to take our friendship to a newer and more exciting level while collaborating on our fanfic. And now we have ideas for original pieces we can write, too!
Idk like. I’m not saying YR or Lisa are perfect. I’ve got my quibbles with like the occasional thing here or there. Season 3 could still let me down. But I love it because it’s a well-crafted story with dynamic characters and resonant themes. I love it like I love Tana French and Elena Ferrante’s novels. I love it like I love Revolutionary Girl Utena and the history of the French Revolution and Socrates’s Antigone and Oedipus. I love it like I love Adib Khorram’s Darius the Great is Not Okay. I love it like I love so many of the songs in Ragtime and Les Misérables. All of which have their own flaws, but really make something in my brain light up and be happy.
I’m not really sure what my overall point here is. I think I just wanted to express this because I am currently having A Lot Of Feelings about other things in my life, and this feels like a place to rechannel them. And maybe if you read this far you got a chance to know me a little better, too.

i think my main takeaway is that everything they tried to do assumed a level of buy-in that i just *did not have* - the episodes about everyone else's problems and tragic backstory when we've barely met them, the godawful "family" thing (that's not what a crime family is!!!)
I felt so sorry for Sasha in the finale lol, which was probably not the intent
y’all are basically saying what I’m thinking! (though for me Juno remains the one I don’t dislike, even if I dearly miss the unhealthy-habits mystery-solving version of him)
The weirdest thing about S3 is that after the first two episodes covering Peter’s PoV, I was still entirely on-board - Buddy’s family comments seemed more ironic than sincere, we got to see Juno and Peter from interesting new angles, lots of interesting future dynamics to develop-
Except no development actually happened. You’re both right, that the season and finale relied upon a loyalty that was never actually built out, merely stated, and then the repetition of those statements made me claustrophobic and yes, feel oddly bad for Wire.

Competency
How is this team this bad at their job. Forget as a team, even individually we have Rita failing to distribute her bot’s abilities because she likes a stream too much, Buddy thinking an EMP killing her is an acceptable loss when she is the one directing a mission, Peter reading a map upside-down and almost getting everyone killed because of it???
The last two tripped me the fuck up - this show made me dislike a dramatic attempt at self-sacrifice! I love dramatic attempts at self-sacrifice! But not when it would get all of your crew killed. Buddy saying Peter had merely been reading the map upside-down threw me so hard that I spent minutes wondering if she was covering for him actually being a traitor for her own reasons, but no, apparently that was the real reason.
(Juno waits till they’re literally at the Curemother Prime to have any questions about the motivations of the Prime’s keepers?)
Look, I’m not expecting superhuman rising to the occasion here, but I am expecting everyone to use the skills that I expect them to have. If Juno fucked up an attempt at leadership or Peter failed to deal with an injury correctly, that’s interesting! These mistakes weren’t.
Genuine Friendships
Putting aside that I am a sap who would rather watch teams that are friends than teams that aren’t, if you are going to say family this many times, I expect to see friendships develop. People actually growing to like each other as people and stuff.
We get the tiniest bit of that with Jet and Rita hanging out, but we already knew he thought highly of her at the end of S2. And we got some Buddy-Pete stuff at the beginning, but that was highly contextual to his role on the crew. I personally needed more overlapping groups/friendships and whatnot, and I think the season would’ve better for working on that.
Don’t wait till the finale episodes for Juno and Vespa to have the tiniest of shifts in their relationship due to Ransom’s scavenger hunt, when they started the season antagonistic and the shift could have begun earlier. Don’t wait till the finale episodes to tell me Juno and Buddy have been shooting together every week and expect me to have the same feelings as if you’d set it up as a throughline earlier.
Even the pre-existing relationships seem less earned this season than previously, for some reason (Juno/Peter, Buddy/Vespa, Buddy & Jet, etc)
So...boundaries
I don’t know how a crew made up of people who all actively chose to join it and its mission could feel this suffocating, but it did. And sure, “family” started to grate, but I can’t put my finger on why the overall dynamic itself made me feel that way.
I was listening to the getaway conversation in the final episode, right, and I kept wondering why I was getting annoyed and I think the thing is - I really didn’t like people’s loyalties getting dictated like that. I didn’t like that it left no room for discussions of tradeoffs, even though I obviously agreed it’s better than the rest of the crew bail than hang around for Ransom to pop up, because there are obviously tradeoffs even there. I dunno, man, just felt off, along with Buddy’s micromanaging in general.
And then very occasionally the season would be weird about boundaries in a different way, like Rita apologizing for looking into Pete’s real name and past. Why should she apologize! He’s a random guy on her crew who Mistah Steel is sweet on, of course she looked into him, are we genuinely supposed to think that was somehow rude of her?

Ok, team dynamics rant over. Finally, maybe I’m just a grump, but Jet’s “I choose to believe” thing didn’t work for me either, because that’s not how life works. You get the good outcomes by making the right decisions, doing the right work, not by having belief in the moment it’s all going to shit.

howdy 💙 chainshipping ask time: on days when they’re feelin bad, what do they do for the other person? also favorite date night activities? + th first moment post-bathroom where they each realized they’d fallen in love w th other?

ooh I think abt this a lot actually. I think th two of them have a tendency 2 bottle things up, so it kind of takes a lil bit fr them to realize tht Hey, Someone Wants To Make Sure I'm Okay and fr them 2 then get to a place where they share how they're rly doing rather than bein like "no everything's fine wdym :)" but once they Do get past tht n r able 2 be honest w each other, it's a lot better fr both of them + honestly its own form of healing.
a lot of th time when Adam's having a bad day, he's either nonverbal or responds w as short of an answer as possible, so th big thing Lawrence does fr him is just let him know he's there when/if he's ready 2 talk + there's no stress 2 tell him what's wrong right away. tht's smth tht's rly important to Adam, n smth he appreciates greatly. often times, along w tht, Adam tends 2 seek out physical contact - so like coming up behind Lawrence while he's cooking breakfast n wrapping his arms around him, holding his hand when they're walking together, sitting close enough so their knees/shoulders/hips brush + just leaning into Lawrence's side altogether, etc. so another thing they do is either cuddle up on th couch or in th bedroom n they watch a few movies together. sometimes Lawrence will read 2 him too. it's rly all abt proximity + lil actions tht in reality r a wordless way 2 say "I'm here, it's okay, we'll get thru this together." Lawrence is patient, doesn't rush him, n stays close by. fr Adam, tht is more than enough + means th world. n it eventually leads 2 him being more comfortable voicing how he feels more often!!
Lawrence's bad days r a lil harder to catch bc even tho he knows Adam's there, he still feels a pretty intense amount of guilt + doesn't often feel tht he has like. a right 2 complain? bc I think, fr a long time, he views himself as th one most responsible fr what happened in th bathroom n how they got there. it takes a while fr him to break out of tht mindset, but th main thing Adam reminds him of is he's still here. bc Lawrence spends a lot of time thinking like, "if I wasn't a bad person, Jigsaw wldn't have chosen me or put my family in danger, therefore it's my fault + I need 2 atone somehow." Adam is aware of this, n they've found tht th best solution is fr him 2 just b very blunt n ask "well was I a bad person? was I so horrible tht Jigsaw chose me based on tht n I deserved what happened next?" n of course Lawrence will immediately be like "no of course not??? nothing u cld've done cld warrant tht?" (kinda like th way u mentioned Adam comforts William) so Adam gets to respond w "tht applies 2 u too, u know. yr not a bad person. nothing you cld've done wld warrant smth like tht, either."
n Lawrence mentally bluescreens th first time he hears Adam say tht bc it's just like. He's Right. if he doesn't think Adam is a bad person + deserved wht happened, why did he? so tht's like th big thing Adam does fr Lawrence. he reassures him tht despite his brain's best efforts 2 convince him otherwise, he is a good person who Adam loves n tht might've made mistakes, but they didn't warrant being chained to a pipe in a fucking bathroom somewhere w his family in danger + being tasked 2 kill his now-bf, christ.

I think they're mostly p lowkey fr th most part just bc of like, th unease of potentially being around A Lot Of Ppl, but every once in a while they'll dress up a lil bit n go somewhere nice fr dinner bc Lawrence is a hopeless romantic + he likes being able 2 do tht fr Adam sometimes. Adam thought it'd be like, wayyyy too stuffy + uncomfortable esp bc it's not smth he's used to, but honestly it's rly fun n they get to spend time together, so in th end it's all fine! plus there's never any pressure 2 like, go all out w dressing up or anything, so tht's nice too. honestly, if Adam wasn't so in love w Lawrence, th way he holds his hand over th table while they skim thru th menu + talk abt what sounds good might make him think he was somehow th main character of a romcom.
a lot of times, too, they frequent this local diner tht Adam used 2 go to fr breakfast all th time when he n Scott were teenagers bc it was relatively cheap, th food was good, + th staff was full of kind ppl. the lighting is lowkey n they usually have some sort of seasonal decorations around th place, n it's just somewhere Adam feels Safe, which of course leads 2 Lawrence feeling tht way abt it too. it's rly nice fr when they still want to go out, but don't rly want to put too much effort into it (tht's not to say th diner is low-quality tho!). they're there so often some of th servers know them by name + are friendly w them, so there's tht too!
their favourite, tho, is nights in where they order takeout or delivery so tht neither of them have 2 cook (Adam is getting better w it, tho Lawrence still cooks fr th majority of th time) n they can just relax. sometimes they lay a bunch of blankets on th floor n camp out there, sometimes they make a pillow fort bc why not, n sometimes they just grab their favourite blanket n curl up on th couch while watching random TV fr background noise or movies. Adam’s head always ends up on Lawrence’s shoulder at some point. Lawrence will have an arm around his shoulder. sometimes Adam will rest his legs across Lawrence’s lap. it’s just being close + enjoying some downtime tht they both rly appreciate.
as fr th first time they realized they were in love each other... in all honesty, fr Lawrence, it was pretty much th moment Adam finally woke up in th hospital n looked at him n said “you came back fr me.” (like yr text game Still Life is Exactly how I see it happening!!) however, th first time Lawrence rly became CONSCIOUS of tht feeling n was able 2 put a name to it was honestly so simple and yet so meaningful. it was Adam standing in his kitchen th morning after he’d spent th night bc he cldn’t get to sleep on his own, too worked up n on edge n afraid 2 be alone.
it’s Adam in only a faded n too-big t-shirt n boxers trying 2 figure out how to use Lawrence’s keurig. it’s th sunlight streaming in frm th window above th sink n framing Adam’s face n turning his eyes this bright honey-green when Lawrence catches them. he’s in th middle of washing the dishes bc he’d been meaning to since th night b4, watching as Adam moves around n learns th placement of everything, his presence so natural-feeling tht it’s hard fr Lawrence to even imagine tht he hasn’t always been there. and then Adam turns 2 look at him bc he can feel him staring, his hands curled around a mug of hot coffee, eyes still half-lidded w remnants of sleep n hair a wild unruly mess, and he smiles - tht is when Lawrence truly realizes tht he loves him. he cldn’t imagine his life w/ out Adam in it. he can hardly remember how it felt to live w/ out him. tht’s when he knows.
I think fr Adam, th moment he became truly aware of how much he loved Lawrence was actually during one of his bad days where he was stuck in th mental bathroom, unable get out of his own head fr much longer than a few minutes at a time. he had gone mostly nonverbal n found the energy needed 2 keep up a conversation was just not smth he had, but instead of Lawrence being irritated by tht fact, he was going out of his way 2 be like, “I know yr not doing well, n tht’s okay, if u want 2 talk to me I’m here but if u don’t I’ll still b here anyways.” n tht’s like smth tht’s so foreign to Adam, ppl being willing 2 understand his struggles w things like speech n eye contact if he’s distressed + who don’t try 2 force him to power thru it, so tht first time he’s just sitting there on th couch, leaning against Lawrence’s side w/ his legs tucked up underneath him n w his weighted blanket covering them both, watching Lawrence fill out th crossword in th daily newspaper n just kinda coasting tht line between being present n checking out, he’s just like. Huh. This Is Nice.
bc no one’s ever rly offered tht kind of accommodation 2 him? esp not his parents, which is part of wht I mentioned earlier abt his tendency to bottle things up. neither of them have 2 say anything; it’s just comfy, reassuring, sitting so close + sharing a space while maintaining a comfortable silence bc Adam doesn’t think he can explain yet. n he looks up at Lawrence’s face, tracing th heavy line of his furrowed brows as he concentrates hard abt whatever word it is he’s trying 2 figure out, th tip of his tongue peeking out btwn his lips as he squints, occasionally mouthing a word or two, n tht’s kind of when it hits him. it’s just kind of like an internal ah, I see. Lawrence doesn’t mind tht he’s like this. he doesn’t badger him fr answers or expect him 2 be th perfect image of good mental health n is perfectly content 2 just sit w/ him as he rides it out. tht’s when Adam really gets tht this is love.
