(anon from earlier abt racism issue) ok thanks for answering. it could be helpful to know what characters or ships are banned or smth and how you came to blanket banning only kaia and portia, two woc, without poc’s input. if characters are being censored, saying who and why is better. ignoring racism to combat racism never worked.

I understand what you’re talking about, I want to lay out the whole situation here. We initially wanted to work out the situation in private with the person you’re talking about, but it does seem like we need to explain everything here.

In brief: We received an ask about Portia that we of the mod team didn’t want to post. When the person reached out about their ask we sent a brief response explaining that we didn’t want to post it. We also, mistakenly, thought that person had sent a previous anon about Kaia that we were similarly uncomfortable with. The person later questioned our lack of clarity regarding this, and other bloggers chimed in that they felt we were performing an act of erasure by not wanting Kaia on the blog. This situation is somewhat multi pronged, so I’ll cover it in two sections.

Portia:

Portia as a character is, in our opinion, written in an extremely poor and racist manner in the episode itself. She calls a white man “master” and turns into a dog, and a huge amount of the episode is taken up with jokes about her being a dog. This plays into a long cultural history of Black women being dehumanized and sexualized by being compared to animals.

We felt that the ask we got furthered that treatment - in our opinion, it thoughtlessly replicated the racism of the original episode, only replacing the white male “master” with a white female “master,” and continuing to compare Portia to a dog. While the ask approached this from first a kink, and then a comedic perspective, given the extremely loaded histories present with both, we felt uncomfortable with the ask as a whole.

When presented with an ask about her (something we hadn’t anticipated because she’s a fairly minor character in the show as a whole), we thought the better move would just be to not publish the ask.

The person who sent the Portia ask reached out and asked why their piece was not being published, and we overreacted by telling the original ask-sender that we were banning the character. This was mostly because, again, we didn’t have a policy worked out in advance, since Portia is a one-episode character and Supernatural is long. We were shocked that she came up, and shocked at the content of the ask.

We have decided that banning Portia was a mistake. But please don’t send us another ask where she’s calling a white woman “master.”

Kaia:

Kaia is again a situation where we should have had more clarity from the beginning, we apologize for that.

We of the mod team discussed Kaia when we were forming this blog. We’ve seen indigenous bloggers arguing for her inclusion in fanworks, and indigenous bloggers arguing against her inclusion in fanworks, and we certainly see both sides of the argument. Kaia, as presented in the show, isn’t always written very well, but fandom is also a space to flesh out and explore characters.

Ultimately, the reason we decided to not discuss Kaia in the event was twofold; firstly, the only ask we received about Kaia involved Claire kidnapping AU! Kaia, subject matter we feared unintentionally veered too close to actual racist dynamics in the real world. Secondly, and more broadly, most Kaia content is in the form of the Dreamhunter ship, which is often not concerned with Kaia as a person: she’s just a body for Claire to be interested in. Given that this is a toxic femslash event, our concern was that fanworks with this ship would (again unintentionally) replicate real world racism.

Since seeing the post you’re referring to, we of the mod team have talked it over, and have ultimately decided that we are okay with Kaia and Dreamhunter being submitted to this blog. Our concerns are more of a case by case thing, and we do not want to silence anyone who is interested in Kaia as a character and wants to explore her further.

Final Points:

In regards to the last point, of having to decide things on a case by case basis, this is where I think a lot of the lack of clarity you point out comes from. Ultimately, when it comes to issues like this in fanworks, it’s hard to create any sort of blanket ban that’s effective. For instance, banning works where characters of color are kidnapped would be incredibly unhelpful; it would stifle works that are perfectly fine and would fail to meaningfully prevent racist works from being submitted.

Additionally, it’s not like Kaia is the only character who ends up being handled in a racist way by fandom - if we banned every character who was frequently handled in a racist way by fans, it would be an all-white event.

If you look at the asks we receive, white characters are disproportionately in the “main character” role and characters of color are disproportionately in the “love interest”/”object” role. We don’t really have a good solution for this, and it’s not like every ask that fits this pattern is some horrible act of racism, it’s just statistics, along with the show being a racist text that fleshes out white female characters more than female characters of color. The answer probably isn’t to ban prompts where white women are the main characters and women of color are the love interests. But it’s not really a problem we have a good solution for.

In the end, because of this, we’ve decided to allow Kaia and Dreamhunter.

Ultimately, we’re trying our best to create an event that encourages people to think more deeply and do more interesting things with all women in Supernatural, including women of color, and I want to apologize if we haven’t managed to do that.

While we’ve always reserved the right to not boost certain works, we now see that more clarity will be helpful, and hope this communication provided it. If a similar situation comes up again, we will discuss it more openly on the blog itself in order to maintain transparency.

I appreciate you reaching out in regards to this; I hope after laying out our reasoning that this makes a little more sense. I want to apologize if you still feel uncomfortable participating in this event, but I wish you the best either way.

In general, if you or anyone else thinks we’ve made a mistake, either through something we did publish or something we didn’t, we would really appreciate you reaching out and letting us know. While this event deals with heavy themes, it was never our intention to make it an unsafe or exclusionary space, and we want to work to correct that.

Also, while this is probably not relevant, a brief disclaimer. Please do not harass anyone we’ve discussed here. We haven’t been linking to blogs because we do not want anyone to be dogpiled or harassed, but the post the anon is talking about isn’t impossible to find or anything.

Man's Best Friend with Benefits: Part One

Pairing: Dean Winchester x Female!Reader

Word Count: ~2.1k

!! Warnings: stillborn, baby in dies in womb, trauma associated with that, explicit (minor) talk of baby dying, heartbreak, really heavy angst, canon angst and violence !!

Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Supernatural. All credit goes to their respective owners. Any and all comments on these are appreciated.

"Help me, please! It's my wife!" Dean yells as he barges through the doors of the hospital.

The nurses drop what they're doing to help Dean, wheeling over a portable hospital bed to set you down on. Joanna is in Sam's arms with no clue what is going on, Sam is trying not to panic and freak out his niece, but Dean is a complete mess. He has tears rolling down his face, his hands are shaking, and his heart is racing a million miles a second.

"Sir, we need you to calm down. What happened?" one of the nurses asks him.

"Please help her. She can't die. She fell down and she won't wake up."

A couple of doctors aid the nurses in wheeling you into a room to assess the damages without Dean present. Two nurses hold Sam and Dean back, and he watches as you disappear into the examination room with a bunch of nurses and doctors.

"Sir, could you please tell me what happened?"

"I'm not sure. My daughter said she fell. She was just doing laundry. I don't know how she fell. Please save her. She's pregnant with twins," Dean begs.

"I can assure you that the doctors are going to do everything they possibly can to save all three of them. Please, let's get you checked in, and we will be able to move forward from there."

Sam waits in the waiting room with Joanna while Dean checks in, and once he's finished, he joins Sam. Dean rests his elbows on his thighs, puts his head in the palms of his hands, and just cries. Sam has never seen his brother like this before. He knows how much Dean loves you and his children, but this is just heartbreaking.

"I can't lose her, Sam," Dean sniffles. "I can't lose any of them."

"Let's just wait until the doctor comes out. She's going to be just fine. She's the Sapphire Witch. She'll be just fine."

"Shit, I forgot about James." James is a cop that asked Sam and Dean for help on a case. He didn't leave a detailed message, but if he asked Sam and Dean for help, it has to be monster related. "I can't go, Sammy."

"We'll figure it out."

Joanna fusses and begins to cry. She hasn't eaten anything since you got home from the previous case, and she is getting cranky. All of her toys and snacks are in the Impala, giving Dean the opportunity to escape the hospital even for a little bit.

"Her stuff is in the car," Dean sniffles and grabs his daughter from Sam. Both Sam and Dean get up and leave the hospital to head to the car. "I can't believe this is happening right now."

"Are we calling James, then?"

"No, not right now. I have to know what is wrong with Y/N before we do anything."

Dean opens the back door of the car and sets Joanna on the ground before getting her bag that has all of her toys and snacks in it. He doesn't know how long he's going to be staying here, so he wants to be prepared for anything.

"I wonder what he wanted. We owe him for saving our asses."

Dean shuts the door just as a Doberman dog runs up to Sam and jumps on him.

"It's a puppy!" Joanna grins.

"She has no tags. I wonder where her owners are."

The dog jumps back down and before their very eyes, the dog transforms into a slender dark-skinned woman with a red collar around her neck. Sam and Dean jump back as Dean grabs his daughter to protect her and Sam unsheathes his knife.

"Who the hell are you?"

"Not a shapeshifter, so you can stash the blade. I'm a familiar."

"A what?"

"A companion to a witch--some witches. They split their time between human and animal form," Sam explains.

"I get a more accurate read on people in my other persona. Approaching guys in a hospital parking lot like this can get complicated. My name's Portia. I belong to James Frampton."

"No, that doesn't work for us because that would mean our friend is a witch," Dean shakes his head.

"Wow, you're quick," Portia says sarcastically.

"James is a fucking witch?"

"He wasn't one when you met him, but that last case you worked on with him, he wanted to learn more about the black arts and witchcraft. It became the center of his life."

"Wait, so you're telling me that James, the cop, became a witch because of us?" Dean scoffs.

"You don't like dogs, do you?" Portia grins, and Dean rolls his eyes.

"Is James still a cop?" Sam asks.

"He's a homicide detective. His new powers make his work even better."

"What does he need from us?" Sam asks.

"Well, something's been happening to him. It started with excruciating headaches, screaming sounds in his ears, and horrible nightmares. He wasn't able to sleep or think. He can't work. It's like he's having a breakdown. Maybe you can find a way to help him."

"So, he thinks these dreams are real? He thinks that he is actually killing people?" Dean asks, trying to wrap his head around this.

He has too much on his plate right now to be thinking rationally about this.

"I think so. At least that's what I picked up before he started blocking me," Portia sighs.

"What does that mean, blocking you?"

"Familiars and their masters can communicate telepathically. I can get inside of James' head anytime I want, but he shut me out."

"You think maybe there's something in there he doesn't want you to see?"

"Possibly something dark, you know, that's destroying him. He can't go to the police, and he doesn't trust other witches."

"You're saying he trusts us? You do know who we are, right? We're the last people that somebody like James needs to be telling his troubles to," Dean sighs.

"This was my idea. I was the one who sent you the text under James' name. He doesn't know you're here, but I think you're maybe all he has."

"I can't leave, Sammy," Dean says emotionally. "I can't leave Y/N knowing she is here like this."

"It's okay, I'll call Garth. He'll understand and work it with me. I'll call with updates as long as you do the same."

"Yeah," Dean whispers.

Dean tosses his brother his keys since he grabbed everything he needs out of it. Sam and Portia get into the car. Sam takes out his phone and calls Garth, grateful that he answers on the first ring.

"Hey Sam, what's up?"

"I need your help on a case."

"What's wrong with Dean?"

"Y/N is in the hospital. It's not looking good, so I need you to help me with this one. Dean is out of commission right now."

"Yeah, of course. Send me the deets."

"Thanks, Garth."

Dean watches his brother drive off with a sometimes dog, and he scoops Joanna into his arms while she snacks on something. As soon as he enters, he sees one of the doctors asking around for whoever came in with you.

"For Y/N? Anyone here for Y/N?"

"That's me," Dean says quickly and jogs over to him. "Is she okay? Are my kids?"

"Come with me. It's best if we talk in here."

The doctor leads Dean to an empty conference room where he can talk freely about your condition without anyone overhearing them. Dean sets Joanna on the table, and she nibbles on her snack while playing with her dolls. She doesn't know what is going on, and it breaks Dean's heart knowing she doesn't understand what might be happening.

"Please, is my wife going to be okay?" Dean keeps it together for the sake of Joanna.

"You said she fell? What did she fall on?"

"I don't know. Maybe the washing machine?"

"From our initial CT scan, we noticed she has a cranial bleed that will need immediate surgery. She is being wheeled down as we speak, and I will be performing her surgery. If we can stop it from getting worse, I hope for her to make a full recovery."

"What about my kids?"

"Due to your wife's condition, the babies need to be born today through a C-section. We have a pediatric surgeon on stand-by for when that will happen. They will be born two months early, so they are both going to be placed in the NICU for two months as we monitor their progress."

"Okay," Dean whispers.

"I'll give you some privacy. I will be out as soon as we have more information for you."

The doctor leaves the room to give Dean some time alone. Dean wants to cry for you, but he knows that if he starts doing this, it's only going to freak Joanna out.

"I want mama," she says.

"Mama is going to be okay. I promise. Mama is just sleeping right now. She'll wake up soon."

How can he expect to think about Sam and Garth when he knows you're lying inside an OR waiting to get operated on? Sam can handle this kind of case, no doubt, but he still worries about his little brother. In fact, when Sam and Garth got to Portia's house, they weren't the most welcome by James.

"You had no right to do this!" James yells at Portia.

They are in the kitchen while Sam and Garth are waiting in the living room, but they can still hear them.

"I was afraid for your life!"

"My life is none of their business!"

Portia gets so angry that she turns back into a Doberman and storms out of the room. She looks at Sam and Garth before leaving the room altogether. James walks into the living room, and both Sam and Garth stand up to greet him.

"Sam, Garth."

"Why don't you tell us about these dreams? She said people were dying in them," Sam says in understanding.

"Dying? They were torn to bits. I could feel my fingers rip into their flesh."

"But they were dreams?" Garth asks.

"Well, I woke up in my bed. I'm not sure if they are dreams or not. I know these people died, though. I checked with the precinct."

"Maybe you heard it, and it stuck in your head. We can't jump to conclusions," Sam says.

"You don't think I told myself all that? You don't think I didn't say, 'that wasn't me. I couldn't have done such a thing'?"

James walks over to the table where his bag is sitting. He unzips a pouch and pulls out a blood-stained shirt he found in his trash can after having the dream about killing someone.

"Is it yours?"

"James Martin Frampton," James shows them the initials embroidered on the pocket. "What is happening to me?"

"Maybe you pissed off another witch, and he or she hexed you and forced you to kill those people?"

"It's possible, I suppose, but I never heard of it."

"How many of these dreams have you had?" Garth wonders.

"Four. The most recent one was last night. It was a blind man. I was choking him, and, uh..."

"Alright, James," Sam cuts him off seeing how distressed he is about this, "we're going to help you figure this out. If we're going to help you, you need to help us."

"How?"

"House arrest, my friend," Garth grins, tossing a duffel bag of witch-proof chains onto the ground in front of him.

James wants to know who is doing this to him, so he has no issue chaining himself up. If someone else dies, and he is chained up the entire time, then someone is doing this to him. Someone is framing him for these murders, and that would prove that another witch is involved.

Sam and Garth need to do some research in case James isn't lying, so for the time being, they are hanging out in a motel nearby.

"How is Y/N doing? What happened?" Garth asks innocently.

"She fell and hit her head against the laundry machine. We don't know much except for it's a big deal. I'm not sure what's going to happen with her or the twins. I wanted to be with Dean, but I know he wouldn't forgive me if I didn't help James."

"My thoughts and prayers are with her."

"Thanks," Sam whispers. Sam takes out his laptop while Garth has loads of newspapers, files, and other things associated with the case. "So, I just got to the crime-scene reports, and they are exactly the same as James told us about the vics, dates, and locations. The most recent one was a blind man, just like he said."

"That's not good," Garth sighs.

"Also, I looked into his record on the force. He went from rookie detective to lieutenant basically overnight, and in the last four years, his solve rate's been right at about 100%."

"If he's been using his magic, it's obvious that he would have that success rate."

Sam stares at his laptop, but he isn't thinking about the case. He's thinking about you and his niece and nephew. As if on cue, his phone rings, and it's a message from Dean.

She is being taken into surgery. Will update you later.

This AU takes place sometime in the mid to late 1980s

Alright, timeline

-Quincy dies from jumping off Stutton Hall their junior year, they’ve met Vincent, but never formed a romantic relationship. They had crushes on each other, but that was it. Quincy becomes an Angel.

-Vincent is still nominated and told he can kill for his project, ends up killing Ambrose and the Marmorius before the marble incident can happen. Ambrose becomes an Angel.

-Vincent kills Portia for getting too close to stopping him, Portia becomes an Angel.

-Beatrix and Portia are on good terms, but never start dating due to Portia dying. It devastates Beatrix, they blame themself for Portia’s death, and are determined to stop Vincent at any cost.

-Vincent has a nervous breakdown from never having the news article written on him and loneliness, never gaining the recognition he thought he deserved.

-During the pyre scene Vincent manages to kill Beatrix with a scalpel in his pocket, but later succumbs to the head wound from Beatrix hitting him with the magnifying glass. The fight is bloody and long, Beatrix fueled by a want for revenge instead of justice. The two die and become demons.

-Sometime in the early 1950s Vincent and Quincy find each other again by accident, demons and angels are less enemies more supernatural coworkers that kind of avoid each other due to the nature of their work. They found themselves drawn to each other for some unknown reason, and ended up becoming lovers sometimes in the mid 1950s. Quincy gave up their role as an angel to be with Vincent, angels typically having to be pious and never date due to their positions of power.

-Angels grant blessings, watch over humans, keep the world in order, make sure things don’t go full hellscape apocalypse mode.

-Demons work to keep the world from being too perfect, causing general chaos, being able to be summoned by especially talented humans, making sure that the world stays interesting, and they “put down”

-Angels and demons are people who had death’s so traumatic that they lost all memory of life, so just kind of got slotted into supernatural bureaucracy since they have no memories of loved ones or a pat life to hold onto, and it’d be bad to just have them aimlessly wandering around the afterlife.

-The moral code that puts them in an Angel or demon role isn’t known to anyone, it just kind of happens, and people are mostly guessing causes for it.

-Beatrix and Vincent work together sometimes in the 1940s, Beatrix is trying to figure out how she died, finding Vincent oddly familiar, but unsettling.

-During the 1970s is when Beatrix and Portia meet, Beatrix feeling horribly guilty looking at Portia, while Portia feels G A Y

-The main Adamandi five all finally connect sometimes in the early 1980s, universally tied together by their odd connection, and really freaked out by the fact Beatrix, Portia, and Ambrose all feel weirdly hostile towards Vincent for no apparent reason. Quincy is just vibing, but also has horrible Catholic guilt.

-They all decide to work together to figure out how they died, curiosity at the lives they lived eating away at them slowly.

Summary: Set between 8x12 and 8x17, but the canon episodes are more like... guidelines than actual rules. Dean cracks an egg for breakfast, and out comes a baby cockatrice. Dean complains a lot, but rapidly evolves into /r/DadsWhoDidNotWantPets. Sam is investigating a mysterious prophet from the middle ages and rolling around in the archives like a nerd pig in a mud library. Kevin is jealous of the mysterious prophet and generally is Suffering. The cockatrice is living its best life and trying to get Dean to glam up a little. Castiel is--well, you'll see. Portia's whole thing gets fixed. I promise.

Asra: just vibing. completely unbothered. their skin is moisturized, the full moon is doing glorious things for their hair, they found some blood on the wall and now he's finger painting with a specter

Nadia: takes it almost too seriously. she's fully aware of all the activity and she isn't here to play. she is going to question these ghosts, find out what she needs to find out, and solve whatever needs solving

Muriel: more scared than he is going to admit. the only way you can tell is because he keeps checking on whether or not you're scared and letting you know that if you want to leave it's totally okay

Portia: having way too much fun with all the equipment. keeps trying to use each instrument the wrong way, somehow ends up catching the most ghost activity of everyone else involved because of it

Lucio: he would be scared if he wasn't so excited to get in on some supernatural action. and if he wasn't convinced that every strange thing that happens is actually his own magical powers awakening

so i viewed this as him just trying to protect sam but now i see

i've never had such shifting opinions on a tv person's hair like i do sam's. at least half the time i actively dislike it. at most 5-10% of the time, i think damn it looks good! this shot in particular was one of the special few. his hair is beautiful, the styling/cut is what lets it down when it does

i sure hope he's not hallucinating again because that'd be a cruel trick. hmm, also in my musings adjacent to fuckup vs righteous man, i've thought about how they show sam's suffering onscreen a lot (mystery spot [lol i won't let it go], hallucifer, whatever the trials shit is gonna be) but dean we get the emotional suffering aftermath. sidenote, logistically made sense for a whole bucket of reasons of course, but (for me, personally) thank goodness dean's hell experience was offscreen almost entirely.

ugh 💔 and to be so forthright telling him how he keeps asking himself why dean doesn't trust him. and the super quick "i'm done if you're done" response has such a particular flavor of... well. something i'm very familiar with. the vulnerability of showing that he's hurt over not being trusted, that it isn't just anger, and dean basically ignoring it.. feeling of inside, shut that shit down asap and move on. don't know what he was going for particularly but it struck a chord obviously for me

About the Artist: Aeryn Jemariel Knox first identified as a writer in second grade. With both parents involved in theater and a house full of bookshelves, they grew up surrounded by stories, and as soon as they could hold a crayon, they felt the urge to tell their own. In 2001, they discovered the wide and wonderful world of fanfiction; since then, they have gone by Jemariel in fandom spaces across the internet, engaging with their favorite media and communities in the best way they know. Previous fandoms include Harry Potter, Star Trek (The Original Series), Torchwood, and BBC’s Sherlock, but their most prolific writing and strongest community ties are in the Supernatural fandom. Story Teaser:

As the last bell rings, Dorian stands in an empty bathroom peering into the spotty mirror, fists against the cold ceramic edge of the sink. Three separate people want to decorate his face, all at the same time. He’s a scrappy asshole, but he’ll be lucky if he can get out of this as more than bloody pulp.

Whatever. He’s gotten this far on a devil-may-care attitude. Maybe if he can take the punk chick—Portia—the other two will fold. Athena hadn’t looked like the fighting type, and Leg-boy… that’s another story.

The others have already gathered by the time he finds the bleachers, the three of them in a loose clump under a banner proclaiming “Go Muskets!” strung across the back of the sagging wooden structure. The football team is practicing at the far end of the field, but the bleachers themselves are empty.

Portia catches sight of him first. “Look who didn’t chicken out,” she shouts, deliberately loud enough for his ears.

As one, the others turn to Dorian, who feels his legs turn to jelly and his stomach to ice. He should have expected this.

“You all… know each other?” he asks in a tremulous voice.

“Yeah. We freaks gotta stick together.”

Starting off weak: a bunch of my normal sims stuff. I have a lot of the sims 3 packs but they’re at my dads house (Along my with supernatural s1-15). i also have more sims 4 because i, stupidly, paid money for them (and i also dont understand how to pirate the rest)

Fantasy Life (best toh game ever I love it so much also one of the characters was accidentally trans coded please play this game🙏🙏h). also i could never complete the Bratz ponyz. i just kept cleaning the horses and then gave up lmao

Xbox games I can’t play because I don’t have an Xbox at my Mums and the one at my dads broke. I hope to find a new one sometime🫶. but also Viva Pinata is a brilliant game and is the best ever actually. everyone needs to a look a whirlim forever

Most goated Pokémon game ever. Real. God it’s so much fun I love this game sm. It was one of my first ever Pokémon games and I loved just running around and making friends. Truly amazing

When wii party and worms battle came out you know the sleepover got so good. the diseny enchatned princess was my childhood i just kept making a new princess and running around doing nothing

Scribblenauts has been like. One of my fav game series. Maxwell ur a sweet little man and I love him. also nintendogs those games have been so cute throughout my life. i love animals

Mod Nation was my mysims racing since i didnt have it and its. actually kinda fun. i think it also had an online element but idk if the servers are still active at this point. bugsnax is also revoulutionary play it play it play it play it

diseny universe was like a big game i kept trying to play with my friends but i think they fucking hated it LOL

my time at portia goated (saving up for the sequel rn)

outer worlds was also one of the only games i full on cried at the end. also at the time i ID'd as a asexual lesbian and Parvati, who was an asexual lesbian, made me feel very seen at the time. shes still my fav companion from that game.

lego dc supervillains has been my fav lego game so far and i hope more lego games are like it in the future because it was great

my lbp stack💪💪💪 i havent done much of A Big Adventure yet bc its more of an adventure game than the others and also you cant save normally in the game For Some Reason. like you cant just. save and quit. idk why that isnt in the game.
