I have to attend a conference this week for my Ph.D. This is the first time I’m attending in person. This conference happens at the start of every semester. My first semester the conference was virtual because of COVID. After that I was in treatment, taking a reduced course load, and was given permission to skip the conference. Last semester I took a full on leave of absence. So even though it’s been two years since I started my Ph.D this is the first time I’m attending in person. It’s not far from where I live. Just a few hours drive. There are people in my cohort coming from the opposite side of the country. The problem is I have always had trouble with these kind’s of events. It makes me so, so anxious. And part of the problem this time is that I was supposed to get my student loan living expenses stipend but my school does it backwards and won’t take me off the ‘Leave of Absence’ until AFTER I attend my first day of class. The first day of the conference is my first day of class. Thus, I have no money to attend this conference. Thankfully, my brother is helping me out but these situation is only making my anxiety 100x’s stronger. My attendance the first day should trigger the switch and then I will get the funds a few days later.
