As you may have seen @katerinaaqu and I have been discussing about a head canon of hers, tatted Odysseus.
For a while we searched for Scythian tattoos as they are the closest society that allowed tattoos, we weren´t sure if in Mykenean Greece they were frowned upon but in classical Greece they were (criminals, shady or barbaric people wore them).
So to make it plausible we came up with this idea: in the middle of the Troyan war in a resupply day, Menelaus and Agamemnon find Odysseus been tattooed an olive tree by a Scythian, perplexed by this they told him that it was a nothing a king should do, shady look.
But Odysseus told them it was a memory of his home of Penelope and Telamachus, that at least if he died there it would have died with his family. Also is a display of Ody´s more flamboyant personality traits, he didn´t tattoed a small olive or branch, nonono, he tattoed a whole tree!.
As the real design is composed of branches inspired by Scythians tattoos of deer´s antlers, (the lack of trees in the steppes prevented them from forming a more floral and plant style; being deer's antlers where we find more plant 'like designs),
Tumblr media
The olive flowers are simplifications of the actual flower,
Flowers for my beautiful wife, whom I longed for, for years
Tumblr media
The leaves are blackouts of the originals and the olives are also simplifications.
The sweet fruit of my dear Telemachus whom I never saw growing
The images below are the sketches I made for having an idea of the placement and elements we wanted to include.
We chose the upper arm as it was more concealable and only be fully revealed to Penelope.
As you can see there´s a swallow drawing, it has it reasons, swallows (Hirundo rustica) have a year migration and came back to Europe and Greece in spring, being heralds of the season and all that entails (hope, regrowth, fertility...) but the most important attributes for us were; (Athena transforms into a swallow and flies away from Telemachus in the Odyssey). Also it is mentioned that the chord of Odysseus's bow "sang like a swallow" when he used it to kill the suitors symbolizing his homecoming.
Swallows have always been linked to journeys specially to homecoming. They idea was of one swallow (Odysseus) but swallows are paired and as a small reminder, the biggest and most ornate is Penelope, fully in flight and more artistically and Odysseus is the one below more naturalistic as he is lesser in his eyes than her. The swallows are more linear and not painted as it also seems more secretive and blank spaces for everyone except him (So he can say everything I have been writing to her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These is the final rendition of the idea!
Tumblr media
I hope you have enjoyed and that it becomes your new headcanon!
@katerinaaqu thank you so much for everything! It has been a pleasure!

“They love so unreservedly, the Bridgertons. Even when they are oblivious to the love in their heart, it bleeds all over the floor.”, said Kate as she turned and smiled at Penelope. “It can be daunting, especially when it is something you never expected for yourself. And I think maybe you and I are similar in that we created a life which made it difficult to allow for such expectations.”
Today it's been 2 years since the publication of The Path Forward heralded my return to fanfiction. Since then, over 900 kind souls have left kudos and comments, making my heart soar and spirits fly. I cannot thank you all enough for the inspiration that propelled me to continue writing, rediscovering my long lost love of the craft.
I am currently on hiatus for personal reasons, but I wanted to put this up today as a show of gratitude to all readers and writers out there. I also want to take the chance to bid the events of The Path Forward farewell, now that the third season is almost upon us with a plot that does not make room for my hopeful speculations in that particular piece.
Like all of you, I cannot wait to see how Colin's and Penelope's beautiful friends-to-lovers story unfolds, and will ride all the emotions with you come May 16th.
In the meantime, if you're bored or just curious, feel free to give The Path Forward a little love before it officially transforms from speculation to alternate take for season 3.
All the best!

lore thoughts so far [ophelia & penelope]🌿
Okay so. The world this takes place in has magic and it’s widely accepted as something some people can do naturally or learn if they wished. The nations of the world are threatened due to monsters attacking their city walls.
There used to be a king who had a wife he dearly loved and they ruled together over a large nation. The king went off to war and while he was gone, his wife passed away, either due to illness or some other reason. When he returned from war, altered with delusions and suspicion, he believed his wife was kidnapped and kept from him. He vowed to find her even if he had to raise hell. He retreated and sooner or later, devil and demon-like monsters began attacking cities and countryside, all fueled by a similar type of magic that the nations dubbed as ‘dark magic’ - magic that, due to this instance, was banned and publicly condemned.
In the kingdom/city this story takes place in, there is an established ‘wizard’ guild and a ‘hunters’ guild. The Wizard Guild holds anyone who wants to pursue magic and provides resources for people to learn all sorts of magics (with exceptions to some). This guild, in their part of protecting their city from these monsters, focus on defences and barriers as well as healing and general assistance for the hunters. The Hunters Guild holds people who go out and fight the monsters. Usually most hunters aren't people who do magic but there are battle mages and field medics who do magic that are part of them. They get sent out every week to defend their city walls and push the monsters back. The guilds are still new in and are still figuring out ways to aid each other and maximise safety for their city.
Penelope is a prodigy of The Wizards Guild. She was born and raised with magic and has mastered a lot of difficult and advanced magic types early in her childhood. Her parents are part of the wizard council that make most of the major decisions surrounding the guild. She is heralded as someone who will take over leadership or enter the council for the wizards guild when she gets older. Though, both as a mixture of boredom and genuine curiosity, Penelope wants to study the dark magics that possess the monsters that attack the city. When this is brought up to her higher-ups the idea gets shot down immediately and she is turned away on the account that it would be insane for anyone to want anything to do with that kind of magic. She, of course, determined to use this forbidden magic to help her people and advance magic, continues to pursue her goal.
Ophelia is a lower ranking member of The Hunters Guild. Not many people know her nor do people really approach her a lot to question her of her past. She is known as large and intimidating and someone who gets the job done with no complaint, a valuable asset in hunting monsters. She doesn’t have any sort of strong or intimate connection to the hunters or the guild, thinking that being part of this is the least she can do to protect people, despite her not being a very violent person to begin with [not that people would know]. Wielding weapons and fighting was just something that she was good at, since she worked on the countryside her whole childhood and often had to fight off whatever wild animal crawled up her barn. After moving up to the big city as a young adult, she was recruited into the hunters guild.
Penelope and Ophelia had been friends since childhood, and their friendship developed and got stronger the older they got. They met when Ophelia visited the big city for the first time to sell things for her farm and saw ophelia crying her head off about a pigeon that hurt one of its wings and couldn’t fly. Ophelia helped her bandage the wing up and comforted her about how the bird would heal and fly soon if she took care of it. Neither of them had friends previously to each other (Penelope didn’t really think of her classmates as friends, since she was usually not in the same age group as them) so they grew attached quickly. Whenever Ophelia would visit the city; which was quite often after meeting Penelope, they would meet up in secluded alleys and buildings to talk and have fun before they had to part ways. They shared everything with each other, hopes, fears, dreams and aspirations, and they promised to be by each other's side no matter what.
When the monster invasion happened, Ophelia fled to the city from her farm which had been attacked and destroyed. Having no one to go to and no place to stay, she depended on Ophelia who gladly helped her through this tough time. They held each other close during this period of uncertainty and fear, keeping their promise from their childhood into their adulthood.
Ophelia was the only person who knew about Penelope’s experimentation with dark magic, often being the one that helps her by bringing back monster carcasses after a hunt for Penelope to research. Ophelia, while not proficient in magic in any way, believed Penelope whole-heartedly that what she was doing was for the good of everyone. They both knew if this information got out it would be devastating for both of them, specifically Penelope.
[Dark magic, while suggesting imagery of necromancy, darkness, magic that inflicts pain, is not actually all that. This form of magic was dubbed ‘dark and evil’ due to its association with monsters but it’s actually magic that connects to nature, elemental magic in a way]
There was a point, when Ophelia was on a hunt with her group when she encountered a monster called a Leman. A Leman is a monster most known for taking the visage of someone you love the most to lure you in (akin to a siren but on land) and then proceed to, bit by bit, eat away at your physical visage until nothing remains of you. Ophelia was the only one to return after her group's encounter with them, but not without missing her face. Penelope promised she’d get Ophelia’s face back no matter what.
Eventually, the city was breached by monsters, and everyone, hunter and wizard alike, fought back against them. Penelope as well, and this moment was when she first utilized her newfound magic to defend the city and banish the monsters. Thinking she would be praised and her ideas about dark magic would be accepted was quickly shot down as the wizard guild began denouncing her for using this sort of magic and endangering the people. People’s opinion of her fell quickly and mere minutes later people began yelling about how she was on the monsters/king’s side and how she was working for them all along. Ophelia stood up for her, saying that she helped and that this magic wasn’t dangerous by itself but that it was used for dangerous reasons by the enemy. She soon began being grouped in with Penelope.
They were quickly condemned and vilified and guards were ordered to seize them immediately. They began being chased down by the city people and fled the city together to escape them, leaving behind everything they had.

This Valdemar AU has really got me in its clutches. My brain has been having so much fun mentally writing the next couple chapters. I'm ACTUALLY still writing chapter 1, which is almost more of a prologue. We meet Newton the Companion, get a bit of info on Anthony's relationships with Violet and Benedict while Newton ponders his options. We'll see the reactions to him going on Search rather than Choosing Violet. And then we meet Kate and get her reaction to being Chosen.
It's once she gets to Haven that the humor comes out. Which will start in chapter 2. Some highlights include:
Herald-Chronicler Penelope bantering/bickering with Princess Eloise
Benedict being the next one to meet Kate, and Mind-speaking to Anthony that his new Monarch's Own is here and "she's very pretty."
Anthony greeting Kate, taking one look in her eyes and being lost. Then Mind-speaking to Benedict to berate him for calling Kate "very pretty" when she is the most beautiful woman in the world
Benedict realizing what just happened and calling the other 6 siblings together to inform them that "our idiot older brother has gone and gotten himself Lifebonded."
The Bridgersibs all being delighted with this and also finding it hilarious
Hyacinth pointing out to Kate that Hyacinth may be a princess, but as the Monarch's Own, Kate outranks everyone except Anthony. Then pointing out that since Kate and Anthony are Lifebonded, she's going to be Queen one day, "and even without Valdemar's different politics, a queen outranks a princess." (Kate has known Anthony for a week, at this point.)
A fun family meeting where the Bridgersibs try to determine if Anthony will actually be allowed to marry Kate. Led by head of Foreign Affairs, Prince Colin.
Today, my brain decided to start mentally writing the epilogue while I was eating dinner. It is very sweet, and it made me cry.
I am also trying to figure out which pairs are Lifebonded. Not all of the couples are, in part because of exactly what Lifebonding IS. Polin can't be, because a friends to lovers story doesn't WORK with a Lifebond. Franchael also can't be, because of the John situation. Grucy definitely is, though. Gregory being a hopeless romantic with a tendency to fall in love at first sight works PERFECTLY with a Lifebond.
Other things I'm still working on are everybody's Gifts, who is and is not a Herald, exactly what everyone DOES (including who I'm going to make my weaponsmaster), and who knows what else. But it's fun.

Lady Whistledown Returns: Chapter 4
Tumblr media
Six writers, inclement weather, and one villa. How will the situation handle an unexpected visitor?
Need to catch up? Find previous chapters and works on AO3.
This chapter does not have any content warnings.
The first few weeks at Villa Diodati were characterized by incessant thunderstorms, pouring rain, and temperatures close to freezing. The papers increasingly attributed the weather to a volcanic eruption in the Dutch East Indies, but their stories differed, and Byron opined that the persistent fog that the American newspapers insisted was reddening the skies and dulling the sun couldn’t possibly be anything but American hysteria. Anthony’s letters had been full of concern about bringing the crops to maturity, and Kate’s and Violet’s letters had been full of little else than Anthony’s temper and the utter inadequacy of that year’s fashions for the temperature. Eloise’s letters bemoaned the lack of meetings about women’s rights and insisted that Penelope introduce her to the daughter of the great Mary Wollstonecraft. When Penelope had mentioned this to Mary, she had half sighed and half giggled, and agreed to include a short missive to Eloise in Penelope’s next letter to her.
After nearly a week of evenings of the Bridgertons, Shelleys, Byron, and Polidori huddling around a fire in the drafty sitting room attempting to find topics of conversation that were not bemoaning the lack of summer, Byron produced Fantasmagoriana—a French anthology of German ghost stories—with so much flourish and fanfare that Penelope half expected him to claim the works of Shakespeare. He proceeded to insist on dramatic readings to “suit the mood of the evenings.” Penelope enjoyed the first evening; Byron was an engaging reader, nearly theatrical in his voice and in how he used the space in the room as he read.
Subsequently, however, Byron became less and less enamored with the exercise. He was politely complimentary of Mary and Penelope’s readings, but barely civil with Colin and actively derogatory with Polidori’s and Shelley’s readings. He took to pacing about the room as others read, distractedly and distractingly cracking his knuckles.
Penelope began writing short editions of Whistledown to bleed off the stress and tension of Byron behaving like a particularly tetchy bomb that seemed to refuse to just go off already and resolve the tension. She shared these privately with both Colin and Mary; collectively they agreed that while the short works were perhaps a bit cutting, they were not inaccurate.
By the evening that would have heralded Byron’s second turn to read aloud, he had become truly insufferable, spending his days alternating between brooding in the day room while spread across a truly astounding amount of furniture and disappearing altogether. As the group gathered, expecting to finish the book that night, Byron bounded in with all of their travel writing cases in his arms.
“Inspiration must strike,” he declared, enthusiastically shoving writing cases into arms. Penelope and Polidori politely exchanged cases, as did Mary and Colin while Byron gesticulated wildly, nearly decking Shelley in the head with his own sturdy case. “Forget simply reading others’ uninspired ghost stories; we can and we shall do better! I insist that tonight we shall be a salon of writers—we shall write! Imagine your fears, your ghosts, those things that give you horripilation or would compel you to absquatulate. Put them in truth and hideous beauty on the page!”
“Do you think he knows he is giving us all a very particular horror to write about?” Colin whispered for Penelope’s and Mary’s ears. Penelope smiled, burying a giggle. Mary’s slight smile was distant, her eyes lighting up and becoming pensive. The evening was ultimately far more enjoyable than the previous ones had been, with Colin and Penelope experimenting—albeit somewhat unsuccessfully—with a genre that neither had written in before. By the wee hours of the morning, the group had pages written and were beginning to droop. Each giving a brief outline of their idea to the others, affectionate jibes and praise were exchanged as each made their way to their respective beds.
As though in reward for their efforts the previous night, the morning dawned relatively clear-skied and sunny. Penelope and Mary insisted on taking Mary and Percy’s son out to explore the grounds and perhaps wade at the edge of the lake. Byron was once again sprawled across an entirely improbable amount of furniture, writing on his so-called fragment, and declined to accompany the ladies. Percy opined that he was “feeling somewhat delicate,” and Polidori insisted that Percy rest under his care as a physician. Colin had initially agreed to accompany the ladies and young child—he and Colin got on quite well, given Colin’s experience with his own nephews, and Penelope never tired of enjoying Colin behaving utterly ridiculously to win a chuckle from the boy—but Byron declared that he would simply be at sea without a writing partner, and Colin was forced to remain behind or be rude to his host.
Once Pen, Mary, and Mary’s son had departed and Polidori had declared Percy “fragile in feeling only” and all four men dove into their writing cases and continued writing. Eventually, the four began trading pages and opining on their progress. Byron quickly lost patience with the group dynamic, and began to sigh and moan as though he were dying.
Thoroughly out of patience, Colin begged off with a splitting headache and retired to his and Pen’s room. He was rummaging through one of their cases for a book or newspaper to read when the door opened.
“I thought you and Mrs. Shelley would be longer—” he began, turning toward the door in expectation of seeing the sun flame off red curls. His voice died away upon seeing the dark coat and hat of Mr. Worth. The queen’s agent wore a deeply uncomfortable expression.
“Mr. Bridgerton,” he said, nodding politely.
“Worth. Why are you in my bedroom?”
Worth’s expression grew even more uncomfortable and something deeply guilty crossed his face for a moment. He refused to meet Colin’s eyes. “Mr. Bridgerton…” Worth’s voice petered out.
Colin watched Worth visibly struggle with himself, shifting from foot to foot and wringing his hands. The other man’s obvious discomfiture would ordinarily have Colin pouring a drink and making a lighthearted quip to ease the tension, but in this case he was increasingly white-knuckling the bedpost. This had to be about Penelope and the Whistledown book. If Worth was here to arrest Penelope, Colin would tie the man up in their closet, take Pen, and run for it, consequences be damned. He had friends across Europe, they would be able to get beyond the reach of the crown. Thank God that Pen wasn’t in the villa just then; he could be confident that Worth did not have her.
The agent would not simply speak, and Colin’s patience was wearing thin. He cleared his throat expectantly, but when that failed to spur the other man into speech, Colin unclamped his hand from the bedpost, took a step forward, and said, “Spit it out, man! Why are you here?”
“Her Majesty Queen Charlotte has extended an invitation to you, Mr. Bridgerton. You are to come with me instantly.” Worth still wouldn’t meet Colin’s eyes.
Something tense in Colin’s chest eased. Worth wasn’t here for his wife, and his answer to this invitation was clear. “I am afraid I will have to disappoint her Majesty,” he said. “Penelope and I are guests of Lord Byron, and it would be unthinkably rude to leave suddenly. Let me show you out.”
As Colin took another step toward the man to make good on his words, Worth held up a hand.
“Excuse me for my lack of clarity, Mr. Bridgerton. Invitation was clearly insufficient to describe the nature of the request. The queen demands that you return to London in my custody immediately.”
Colin’s barked laugh was a combination of surprise and derision, and he used it to cover a step toward his armoire. His sword hung on the inside of the door; if Worth wanted to make an issue of this, he would be sorely mistaken thinking that Colin would be an easy target. “You cannot imagine that Penelope and I are simply going to let you arrest us and drag us back to London, sir.”
“Not Dame Penelope,” said Worth, quickly. “Just you, Mr. Bridgerton. And I would hardly call it an arrest. We refer to it as being recalled.”
“I am not an agent, Worth. I would call it an arrest. And one in which I must disappoint you and her Majesty!” Colin had made it to the armoire, and smoothly retrieved his sword, drawing himself up to his full height as he pointed it directly at Worth.
“Apologies, Worth, but I will not be returning to England with you.”
“Mr. Bridgerton, please. I beg you not to make an issue of this.”
“Step toward the armoire, if you please,” ordered Colin.
Worth took the step as he responded. “I have no quarrel with you personally, but I ask you again, sir, to please come quietly.”
“It will not happen. Another step.” Colin’s reach was long, and he had the point of the sword level with Worth’s throat, if a polite few inches away from the flesh.
“What do you plan to do?”
“Surely you cannot expect me to share our plans with an agent who is trying to arrest us,” retorted Colin, advancing the blade a few inches as Worth took another step, clearing the bedroom door.
“No, I cannot. But I can keep you talking long enough for this!” Worth’s voice raised slightly on the last word, and the bedroom door opened with force, but not so much that it banged into the wall or made a sound that would draw attention. Ten men in identical coats and hats, all armed with swords and knives, crowded into the room. Many blades were leveled at Colin. “Please, Mr. Bridgerton. This need not descend into barbarity. Lower your blade.”
Despite his practice both at school and with his brothers, Colin lacked the expertise to overcome so many opponents alone. Being cut to ribbons would do neither him nor Pen any good, so Colin lowered his sword, slowly and grudgingly.
“Drop it on the floor and kick it to me,” instructed Worth.
“What precisely do you intend to tell people?” asked Colin, complying.
“Nothing. Her Majesty intends for no one to know.”
“You cannot imagine that you can forcibly abduct me and Penelope won’t bloody well notice and write to Anthony,” cried Colin, one knee flexing as he instinctively tried to go for his sword and just as quickly checked the motion. Unfortunately, his motion spurred the other men, who more or less jumped him en masse, forcing Colin to his knees as they pinned his arms behind him.
“This plan will fall apart before we are across the channel. Letters travel faster than twelve men do,” said Colin, in a moment of stillness.
“You underestimate her Majesty’s experience in these matters.”
“Sound more mournful about this Worth, it’s such a tragedy that you’re kidnapping me,” snapped Colin.
“It’s true, Dame Penelope will realize you’re missing,” said Worth, fishing in an inside jacket pocket for a moment as he walked to the bed. “However, she will not write to the Viscount. She will not write to anyone. Not once she has read this.” He placed the letter on the pillow, the words “Dame Penelope” writ large and clear on the front, above a decorative wax seal. Back still to Colin, Worth sighed. “Gag him.”
Colin tried to yell and fight the hands holding him. Realizing too late and with a sudden, stomach-turning jolt that if he was not discovered now, he would not be, and Pen would be left alone in Europe. Unfortunately, the queen’s agents were far too practiced. Before the words had finished leaving Worth’s mouth, Colin’s head had been pinned against someone’s chest or shoulder, and his jaw was first forced open as someone’s balled up handkerchief was thrust between his teeth and a length of rope followed it. The free ends were bound behind his head, keeping everything in place and muffling every yell.
“My apologies,” said Worth to Colin. “I had hoped you would see sense and come quietly, but I must carry out my duties, regardless of your cooperation.” Turning to the other men, Worth said, “Get him out of here. Down the back stairs, and do it quietly.” The agents bundled Colin out of the villa and into one of a pair of utterly nondescript carriages.
The hours-long carriage ride began a somewhat tumultuous journey back to England. Worth initially allowed Colin relative freedom of movement, with at least three men accompanying him at all times. However, after Colin leaped overboard on a riverboat to escape and forced them to hunt up and down three miles of riverbank to find and recapture him, Worth ordered his hands tied and ankles hobbled when they were on the move.
Colin blessed his school friends for teaching him how to pick pockets because he was able to swipe a small knife in a town they crossed through, and he cut through his bonds. He nearly gave the agents the slip down a side street, only to be cut off by a wagon that stopped suddenly when the horses pulling it shied away from a startled cat streaking across the cobblestones. Before the agents pulled him away and dragged him back to the floor of the inn they had taken over for the evening, Colin bruised all of his ribs.
After that stunt, Worth disappeared for a few hours and returned with a packing crate meant for furniture. Colin was transported the rest of the way to the channel in the packing crate—with a few extra holes for air drilled into it. Out of sheer frustration and lacking any other options, Colin passed the time riding in the crate by singing the filthiest sea shanties and drinking songs in every language he knew at the top of his lungs. The jostling grew rougher the louder he sang, and Colin added a full body’s worth of bumps, bruises, and splinters to his very bruised ribs. Just as he was beginning to feel nauseous from the motion of the ship, Worth levered open the top of the crate, shackled Colin’s wrist to his, and after warning Colin that he couldn’t swim, walked the pair of them up to an isolated section of the stern. They saw no other passengers, and even the sailors seemed not to see them. Colin’s motion sickness immediately faded away, but the nausea remained.
He had been gone from Pen for days. He had no notion of what was in the letter Worth had left her, and had no idea whether she had taken any action. Or what that action might be. Musing on what Pen might choose to do was merely a distraction, and Colin knew it. What was Lady Whistledown in Penelope was more than capable of getting her safely back to England and Bridgerton House to work with Anthony to fix the situation. The simple truth was, he missed her. Missed her presence at his elbow, missed carding his fingers through her loose curls at the end of the day, missed the feeling of her warmth in his arms. More than anything he missed her quick wit and the way she goaded and challenged him to meet her and play on her level. They had not been apart since their marriage, and this separation stung all the more for being unwilling.
That he hadn’t been unable to escape the custody of eleven agents was not precisely unexpected, but it rankled his pride and made Colin feel as though he had failed Pen somehow, because he had not been able to get back to her. Worth searching him for anything that could have conceivably been used as a lockpick even after he had been locked in a box for days on end had been gratifying but entirely unnecessary.
Colin stared moodily down into the waves of the channel, debating the odds that Worth had lied to him about being unable to swim. The tightening of his hands drew the other man’s attention, and Worth stepped back a few paces from the rail, gently but firmly dragging Colin with him.
“I’d as soon not drown with you in a futile attempt to escape,” said Worth, tone an odd mix of dry and apologetic. “I genuinely cannot swim. My parents were poor; I never learned.”
“How did you manage to get yourself appointed as an agent of the queen then?” Colin asked, curiosity genuinely piqued. Between escape and irritation attempts, he had noticed shades of Oxbridge in the bearing, speech, and attitudes of the ten men who had been keeping an eye on him, but Worth had not struck him as a younger son of a ton family who had eschewed the military or the church.
“She caught me trying to steal the family silver.”
Colin’s startled laugh sent seagulls bursting into flight from their resting places along the lines. “Surely not! Don’t they execute boys who try that?”
“Careless ones, certainly,” replied Worth. “But apparently the fact that I made it unseen into the palace, stole a livery, and made my way utterly unnoticed to the royal apartments was amusing enough that Her Majesty took me into her household and trained me up with an eye toward making me an agent.” He stumbled as the ship listed sharply to one side on another’s wake. Colin caught Worth before the man could drag them both down, his sea legs compensating instinctively.
“Not a sailor, I see,” said Colin, awkwardly moving to clap Worth on the shoulder but not quite having the right angle to do so because they were cuffed together.
“Not in the least. Barring the imperative of duty to queen and country, I should count myself lucky never to have to set foot on another ship for the rest of my life.”
“Quite the strong sense of duty too, to kidnap a fellow away from his wife.” The lack of vitriol in his voice surprised Colin. He rather liked Worth, in spite of himself, and the fact that the man was not threatening Pen apparently bought him more good will than Colin had intended to sell.
Worth shuffled his feet awkwardly, just avoiding meeting Colin’s eyes as he stepped to the rail and held on. “This truly is simple duty. I hold no animosity towards yourself or Dame Penelope. Her Majesty is a complex woman. Capable of great magnanimity and equally great cruelty.”
“I should never expect a man to speak ill of his benefactors,” said Colin. “But neither would I expect him to speak well of anyone threatening his family.”
Rather than answer as the docks of London drew ever closer, Worth reached into an inside pocket of his coat and withdrew a flask. Between them, the two men drained the flask in companionable silence before Worth was obliged to chivvy Colin back into his packing crate for the journey to the palace.

NPAD: Art
Happy very late Nadia Park Appreciation Day! As a big TRR fan, I always imagined that Nadia would consider Joëlle Theron as one of her artistic idols, and from that I built a head canon to chronicle Nadia’s path as an artist!
Tagging @nadiaparkappreciationweek and its wonderful hosts @lizzybeth1986 & @sazanes!
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Nadia graduates with her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 2015
She goes on to study at ENSA Bourges in France—Joëlle’s alma mater—to earn her DNSEP (the French equivalent of a MFA)
After graduating in 2017, Nadia returns to NYC where she does the standard starving artist routine for a solid year until receiving an offer to showcase some of her work for an alumni showing in Paris
She sends over some of her work and then finally agrees to move in with her cousin Erin, whose previous roommate (my TRR MC Ally) ran off to Europe
In mid-September ten days before the showing is scheduled to end, Liam and Madeleine’s engagement tour stops in Paris
While there, Kiara visits the gallery with Penelope and Hana to do some scouting for her mother, and when Nadia’s art catches her attention, she sends some pictures to Joëlle who is also an instant fan
With several artists having pulled out of the upcoming International Arts and Food Festival, Jöelle reaches out to Nadia to ask if she’d like to have her work displayed during the festival
Nadia immediately accepts; her pieces are well received and garner several high bids, which heralds the start of her career taking off
A couple of weeks later, when she attends Ally and Liam’s wedding as Erin’s plus one, Nadia introduces herself to Jöelle, who is happy to meet her, especially since she can now make the offer of sponsorship in-person
And thus, by the time PM begins, Nadia is an established artist; while the majority of her fan base is European and French in particular, her first independent showing at the start of the series marks her breaking into the American art scene

I have many many favourite things and TB2 carrying TB1 like she's a lil baby koala is one of them. Having Thunderbird One on board instantly raises Thunderbird Two from a two to a ten 😎😘
You have pre-empted me :D I has a fic being written ever so slowly as it requires sooooo much research that has very much alot of the above involved.
Here be the first part of said fic for your enjoyment. It is only set up, but hopefully it will pique your interest anyway.
@the-original-sineater is fully aware of this project. Apologies for its slowness.

“I told you to back off.”
“It was my decision.” The Commander’s voice cut across the cockpit.
“Well, you were wrong and here we are.” Anger dipped in flippancy was a far too familiar response on John’s part.
Virgil sighed to himself. This wasn’t going to die down anytime soon. A quick glance in Gordon’s direction did not improve the chances of an early resolution either. Gordon had that spark in his eye that heralded trouble with a capital G.
They were all stressed out. It was supposed to be a simple test of new equipment, specially set up in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. John had even come down to help, bringing Eos with him.
Penelope had brought out her refurbished oil rig, now named ‘FAB Three’ with Brains aboard for monitoring, and Gordon and Four were aboard Two with Virgil just in case. Thunderbird One had begun testing what could hopefully be a new shielding system that could prevent their ‘birds from being brought down or damaged by projectiles, including firearms and shrapnel from explosive situations.
It had all been developed following an incident where a chemical factory self-combusted and took out part of Two’s tail plane, preventing her launch to safety. She had also been subject to a rain of debris that was resisted mostly by her cahelium hull, but it had been a close enough call to anger Brains and that always resulted in mass invention on the scientist’s part.
Unfortunately, this time it had proven a failure. Scott had pushed One above the recommended speed limit for the test, in defiance of both Brains and John, for who knew what reason.
This was John’s area of expertise. Usually it was Virgil who helped Brains, but this time it had been John due to some of the complicated theoreticals involved, and the fact Virgil had been unavailable for a good chunk of the time needed. Consequently, there was no doubt the laws of physics were being bent this way and that.
The crumple zone on One’s cone had proven that dramatically.
What had been a simple test had turned into a hair-raising rescue from one second to the next. Virgil found himself maxing out Two’s speed limits to swoop in and snatch One out of the sky before she ended up in the Pacific.
So this wonderful trail of events had led them to their current situation - heading home, One strung under Two like a mother carrying a baby, and pilots of One and Five yelling at each other in the backseat.
Maybe Virgil was carrying children.
Certainly felt like it.
“If this shielding is going to work, it needs to work under all conditions.”
“This was an indicative test only, not a working prototype! That’s why there were speed limits!” John was obviously exasperated.
“Then why didn’t you test it on Two?”
Virgil frowned at the insinuation that his ‘bird was slow, but it was obvious that his big brother had more on his shoulders at the moment than just this test. It wasn’t like him to make such a careless mistake.
“Because Two was obviously needed to catch your ass when it fell out of the sky.” The sass was muttered by Gordon.
Virgil closed his eyes.
Oh crap.
There was silence a moment and he could feel the explosion building. The tension in the air of the cockpit twanged.
Maybe he needed to invest in some shielding of his own.
“You keep out of this.” It was sharp, commanding and all acid.
Beside Virgil, Gordon turned around in his seat. “No, this time I’m with Johnny, you shouldn’t have done that. You could have gotten yourself killed. Hell, you’ve probably given Alan his first grey hair. It was stupid and not like you. What the hell is going on?”
Virgil groaned.
Again, there was silence and he could see Scott’s reaction to the mention of their youngest brother, and the guilt that came with it. Alan was currently buried in a video game at the back of the cockpit, headphones on and hopefully oblivious to the train wreck currently in progress.
Virgil had removed him from duty because his little brother was exhausted after a long-haul space mission with Kayo the day before. But Alan had been determined to join them for the test, tired or not.
Virgil had been keeping an eye on him, but obviously his eye should have also been on Scott, who should have had a good night’s sleep last night, yet was now exhibiting symptoms that refuted that assumption.
When they finally got home – Two could not fly her usual speeds with One strapped to her belly – Virgil was going to investigate what the hell was up with his big brother.
Assuming they all survived the conflagration currently in progress.
Perhaps it was the argument that distracted him. Perhaps it was just fate doing a Tracy Tuesday, but in any case, the explosion came as a complete surprise.
They were halfway across Tongan air space when something reached up and slammed Two sideways. Her yoke was ripped from his hands and her windows were engulfed in cloud before being blanketed in a pitch black. Her instruments screamed and the whole cockpit fell sideways, loose equipment slamming into bulkheads and bodies as his brothers yelped.
Virgil grabbed at the yoke and threw power into her rear thrusters. Two fought with everything she had…
Her engines howled.
She flipped, tumbling…
A roar reached up and engulfed them. The blackness ripped through the forward windows and, caught in a swell of sensor blinding sound, everything was ripped out, including his grip on consciousness.

WELCOME TO CRIMINAL MINDS OC WEEK!
Greetings, all — your herald bears tidings! In an attempt to spark the Criminal Minds fandom within the OC community, we present to you an appreciation week! With Criminal Minds: Evolution right around the corner, we thought we’d host an event that serves as a countdown till we see (some of) our beloved characters back on the small screen again. However, we’re aware that not everyone is interested in the revival, so please consider this a general OC appreciation instead! Brought to you by the admins @stanshollaand and @come-along-pond with special thanks to @lizziesxltzmxn for being our biggest inspiration <3
RULES
You can participate with gifs, graphics, drabbles, art, playlists, etc., whatever your heart desires!
The prompts are completely up to your interpretation, but we’ve added some examples for reference!
This event is meant to run from November 18th to the 24th, but feel free to go on your own pace! We’ll continue reblogging content even after the event has finished, especially since there’s only a couple days for preparation.
DO NOT copy/steal other people’s works! Always link inspo to whoever’s post(s) you’ve been inspired by.
Use the #cmocweek22 tag and/or our tracking tag for your content to be featured!
Have fun!
DAY 1: I am Calm and It’s Doctor (November 18th)
Let’s start off easy! Make something about your oc and their titles; are they a doctor, an agent? What about their nickname, do they have one? What does it mean? Do they like it? Who gave it to them? Maybe you can do their aliases; whether they’ve gone undercover and have a lot of names or just changed it because they want to, go crazy!
DAY 2: We’re Ready to Present the Profile (November 19th)
Make a character profile of your oc! You can tell us about something simple like their traits, their appearance, their big three or maybe something more specific like their background or their family tree, anything you can think of! You can use some of these templates for reference if you like: one, two, three.
DAY 3: Charcoal Grey (November 20th)
Now, we all remember Hotch in the court room. Make something based around your oc’s iconic, memorable moments! Maybe they fight with an unsub and win, or make an unsub confess without them realising it, maybe they prove a non-believer in profiling wrong. How about their iconic lines? One-liners, punchlines, maybe their witty remarks with the team? Anything!
DAY 4: I Kinda Love You (November 21st)
Derek and Penelope. Spencer and Diana. Hotch and Haley. Make something for your oc and their relationship with someone else! Whether it’s platonic, familial, romantic, or even hostile, go for it!
DAY 5: Sometimes The Day Just Ends (November 22nd)
Sometimes, there are no words, no clever quotes to neatly sum up what’s happened that day — that day is angst day, and it is today! Make something angsty with your oc and break our hearts! You can make something about their most heartbreaking dialogue and/or monologue, their worst moments in life, perhaps even a playlist with some agonising songs in it that unfortunately fits them. And despite the opening line, you can use words and clever quotes, even song lyrics!
DAY 6: Work Me A Little Magic (November 23rd)
Hey, babygirl/boy/non-binary, tell us something we wanna hear! It’s fluff day, so it’s time to let your ocs be happy and mend our broken hearts after a very angsty day. Make something fluffy with your oc! It could be a lighthearted song, a cute quote. Maybe it’s movie night and they go out with their partner or their friend(s), or they stay in and cuddle under the sheets with their partner or have a sleepover with their friend(s). You can even make an AU if your oc really can’t be happy in their main universe. Whatever floats your boat!
DAY 7: Every Ending is Also a Beginning (November 24th)
You know what Hotch, often there are clever quotes to sum up the day. Every episode has an opening and closing quote, so let’s honour that by applying some to your ocs! Make something for your oc using a quote. It can be from the show (like their opening and closing ones or the characters’ dialogue and/or monologues), or you could use one you found online that resonates with your oc. You can even make something using your oc’s own dialogue and/or monologue from an episode!

Penelope's Little Heraldry - #4 German federal states if they were awesome
If I had a penny for every time that I've drawn arms with a bathing lion on them this week, I'd have two pennies. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Manuscript Search Tag Game!
tagged (twice :D)by @akindofmagictoo! thanks!
Forever (herald at dawn, draft 1)
Alex nodded. “It will not keep you secret forever. In truth, I don’t think it will last for more than 24 hours from date of publishing. Your name was in the news a lot, especially then.” Nathaniel nodded. “That it was. You are sure I’ll only have a day or so?” “Journalists are an industrious group. Even if they aren’t looking for the witnesses mentioned, they will still be looking for her son. There are four and a half months of daily newspaper articles with your name in them in our archives alone.”
Rage
I can't find rage anywhere in any draft of a wip.
Trial (herald at dawn, draft 1)
“I do not understand why they need to have a trial go on for four months, and I am quite literally being paid to understand that.” “Do you want help? I don’t much understand legalese, but a second person looking at it might help?” offered James. “Thank you, Blakely, but you’ve got more important things to do, surely.” James half shrugged. “Not as such. Nothing that my uncle can’t wait for. Which case is it?” “The Ekker trial,” said Leo, leaning back and cracking his neck, “regarding the murder of Marisol Ekker by her son’s father’s wife, who was possibly aided by her son’s father.
Fade (enna's prequel, draft 1)
The expression on her brother’s face as she walked into the room, the plea for help, the way that man in the passage had claimed to be her uncle before he faded back into the shadows. Not that she believed him. She didn’t, not really. Why would he kill his nephew?. The look on first Penelope’s face, as she followed the screaming and the open trapdoor to find Enna staring into the darkness of the tunnel with blood on her shirt and no words to prove the man had actually been there. The look on Anne’s face as she admitted that she had gotten there after Enna, and their brother and their captain was already bleeding out. That look, and the way Anne wouldn’t—or couldn’t—meet the eyes of her sister as she damned her. The way Anne had looked at her when, three hours later, she broke into the cells to set Enna free. The way she had hugged her, and told her to run, and promised not to forget Enna, that they would find each other someday, like all the old stories said about twins.
I'll tag (no pressure) @ashen-crest @sleepyowlwrites and anyone who wants to play! your words are seek, find, wonder, and fire

Sophie, Colin, Phillip and Michael. Thats a hot group OMG
I think they'd make for an adorably wholesome group during their first few years of Hogwarts and then seemingly out of nowhere the foursome come back from summer and suddenly they're the hottest friendship group at school. Michael and Colin definitely notice the fervent increase of attention towards them from all the girls, though Sophie and Phillip are more oblivious and modest when it comes to the amount of interest they find themselves on the receiving end of.
I mentioned how Benedict was surprised Sophie hadn't been asked to the Yule ball already until he realised that the majority of the school had assumed that she must have been dating either Colin, Phillip, or Michael, because surely she must be? How could she spend most of her time with three of the hottest guys in school and not have fallen for any of them or at least staked her claim on one of them? And in turn, how could those three guys merely just be friends with a girl as pretty and as kind as Sophie Beckett?
The foursome's friendship continued after they left school and they all went interrailing together, travelling across Europe and then to Asia on their adventures. While Phillip continued his specialised studies in Herbology along the way, Colin wrote pieces for The Half-Blood Herald (a newspaper that featured an equal balance of wizard and muggle news), and Sophie and Michael picked up odd jobs amongst the muggle-kind to earn cash along the way.
But my favourite thing about the group dynamic is how one by one each of Colin's best friends ended up going out with one of his siblings. The first time it happened Colin was outraged and moaned to Anthony how disrespectful it was that one of his siblings should steal one of his best friends for themselves. "Tell me about it." Anthony muttered and glared over at Simon and Daphne.
Eventually Colin accepted that one of his best friends had found happiness with one of his siblings - but then it happened twice more and Colin was very much like;
Tumblr media
"Guys; please stop fucking my siblings! And you lot; stop fucking my friends! I can't believe you'd do this to me! I would never in a million years dream of getting it on with any of your best friends!!! Oh hey, Penelope!"

I know we’re on opposite ends of the Callisto isle, but I can’t be the only one who thinks that he and Eckles should have interacted a little right?
Genuine devotion to Penelope/Cha Siyeon vs a desperate attempt to survive and gain freedom
The outsider view of her as a strong wild person and her struggles vs her family compared to having said harsh strength used to cow and intimidate you as a slave.
Being tossed into a war at a young age and having to fight for your life everyday until you’ve risen as a feared but powerful prince vs having everything taken from you in said war and losing your only ticket out of this nightmare to its herald.
IDK there are things you can do with this and I wish the series had sone it
Agreed they should have interacted more. Iklies and Callisto are the only male leads that have a shared backstory (Livius war) and a motive to go at each other's throat that goes beyond "we both love the same girl". In a way they are foils. We have character A who rose to power while at the same time character B had everything taken from him. The fall of Delman marked Callisto's ascend to "heroism"and the beginning of Iklies' descent into villainy. Any good thing that happens to Callisto (be it success in politics, love or war) has an immediate negative impact on Iklies and vica versa. There is no ending where both of them could have been happy.
Making Callisto vs Iklies vs Penelope a love triangle is a huge oversimplification of their issues. Even if the circumstances prevented them from interacting much in canon a long flashback or multiple small flashbacks spread through the stories or even a side story added on that focused on both of their childhoods during the war, would have made their characters much more complex and given further context to Delman/Ioka's deep rooted resentment of each other.

No one asked, but one of the two main motivations behind me creating Penelope's Little Heraldry is that heraldic literature is dense as fuck.
It doesn't help that a lot of the go-to books are at best several decades old, but sometimes even over a hundred years old, so the language used can be horribly outdated. Also my own reading comprehension is god-fucking-awful, I have some kind of undefined learning disorder (when I was in elementary school I was misdiagnosed with dyslexia, but it turned out that That Wasn't It), and I want there to be a piece of literature that is accessible for folks who struggle like me.
The other main reason is that there is just soooo much misinformation floating around out there, and I think webcomics are a great way to reach people.
